Helping others preview Caudecus weapons

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Greener.6204

Greener.6204

Hey folks!

I’m not sure how many of you have noticed, but it can be a pain for users to preview some gem store weapons. As of yesterday, if you hadn’t already purchased Lord Caudecus’s Pistol or Sword, you couldn’t even preview them in your wardrobe (if this has changed today, then this whole thread is moot).

Update: The skin ID’s have been found. Thank you, Alex!

If you are one of those who’s purchased the skins, then you can help others around this barrier!

  1. Go to the wardrobe in your bank or at a crafting station
  2. type “/wiki [Shift + click on the wardrobe skin]”
    • When you press enter, you’ll be brought to a wiki page that’s probably unlike any you’ve seen before. This is the page that ties the game ID’s to the wiki.
  3. Copy the normal looking 4-digit number (ignore the crazy thing that’s full of numbers and letters)
  4. Add the 4-digit ID number to either the Pistol page or to the Sword page
    • To do this, press the “edit” button at the top of the screen.
    • Paste the 4-digit number beside the part that says "| id = ". You’ll see that the ID number is currently missing, unless someone’s beat you to adding it
    • Press save!

Very much appreciated

For those unfamiliar with how this helps, once the ID is known, players can then copy/paste the chat code into the game at any time to preview the weapon in the normal preview window (rather than the Gem Store preview window which won’t let you wield the weapon!).

How is there no filter for gold sell url's?

TLDR.

Better than sitting on hands and letting same URL that has been getting spammed for 4 years continue to be whispered. Also having an option to prevent whispers from non friends seems perfectly reasonable to me as well, if not just for spam but for trolls.

Look you guys can write a 50 page dissertation for all I care and you’re not going to convince me that the current solution of doing nothing is effective.

As has been pointed out in numerous places both here and in other threads, Anet takes this problem seriously. The simple fact that these websites are having to take convoluted measures to get around filters is proof that Anet’s doing more than “nothing”.

Flip your thoughts around for a moment. These websites are stealing money from Anet. Don’t you think they’d work kitten hard to stop them?

They only removed the relationship for a while. Currently, after completing all Masteries, when a player fills his Experience bar (with Experience Points), they get a Spirit Shard. That is a definite relationship to me.

Ah, okay, I’m willing to change that if you wish. I didn’t believe a full qualification was needed when helping out that poster:

For the vast majority of players, spirit shards have no relationship with experience. You get them by just playing the game. For the small portion who have completed their masteries, there’s a tiny relationship (you get very few from that bar, far less than natural play). I hope that they’ll soon make this more inclusive.

You know, what would be really great?

A game, so self explanatory and good thought out in UI design ect. that you don’t need to use a Wiki or countless other 3rd party sites at all…

I can hear many players and wiki contributors alike sighing out as one, “… To sleep, perchance to dream.”

Followed of course by the rub.

GW1 wiki is allot better done then GW2 wiki, most of the pictures are missing in GW2 wiki and it’s hard to find the simple stuff.
search for secret places and i am better off on youtube, search for an organized gallery for weapons and i am better off on dulfy.

Pictures, yes, pictures! I know all of you have a Print Screen button, and to those of you who have uploaded jpgs of any quality to the weapon or armour pages, thank you! We still are missing a ton, though.

To upload images:

  1. Create an account on the wiki (for image uploads you’ll have to have one, sorry!)
  2. Go the page, such as Embellished Axe Skin
  3. If there’s a red link in the infobox on the right saying “Add a gallery image” click that.
  4. Follow the steps on the upload screen.

Don’t worry about making mistakes. We have a ton of people who can fix pictures, but not everyone can get the pictures!

Sorry for hijacking this thread; I’ll take any opportunity to help people help others.

[condensing list of examples of missing redirects]

I absolutely know that pain and I have a solution, one which will let you help many others who have probably hit the same roadblocks.

First, locate the page you were trying to find (bear with me, I know how silly that sounds). Then, click on the Feedback button and type, “Hey folks, could you make [insert name which you originally tried] redirect here?”

Usually this is a simple thing to pull off. From time to time it may not be possible for some esoteric reason, but even those have work-arounds to help accommodate users.

Edit: Spelling. I’m sure you’re a great person, but perhaps we should avoid baring together

Non Raiders blocked from XP bar spirit shards

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Maybe there is some confusion between what you are referring to ‘experience’ and what previously was leveling up/gaining Skill Points. ArenaNet did separate Hero Points from Spirit Shards, and from that time until Heart of Thorns was released we gained nothing whatsoever each time we leveled up again after L80. Thus, after ‘leveling up’ Mastery Tracks, we acquired nothing at all, again, until this recent patch.

Yeah, having Skill Points play the dual role of character growth and currency was cumbersome, but the solution wasn’t the best, which is why I hope that this new reward system can be expanded upon.

Now, those that have finished all Mastery Tracks (XP accrued and Mastery Points spent) for a region can gain Spirit Shards. Those that are concerned feel having to unlock the Raid track by raiding is unfair, as no one was required to set foot in a Fractal to unlock the Fractal track (just as an example).

Given that they are able to create an experience bar which fills and empties with a reward (unlike Masteries), my wish list would be the following (not having any clue if the programming can handle this):

  1. Expand the possible rewards given when its filled.
  2. Allow for the players to contribute to this bar any time their current mastery is full (i.e. they haven’t spent the mastery points to unlock it)

The main problem with my idea that I see (programming aside), is communicating what is happening to the players. It would require some slick UI work to make it not seem like that experience bar has a mind of its own, especially when trying to figure out if you’re growing a mastery, or if it’s done and you’re now growing a reward bar.

Considering that gaining 1 Spirit Shard every few days on top of the 20-50 one accrues in the course of acquiring enough XP to fill a track seems negligible, I’m not sure what the outcry is over Spirit Shards, but I understand the principle behind it.

I’m totally fine with principle; Anet’s heard a few choice words from me concerning some of the HoT release details. Speaking up is very important, and I hope no one took my words as an attempt to squash them. My only goal was to try to add some clarity when I saw people crossing two separate issues (the rewards locked behind completing raids vs. experience equating to shards), and another poor poster getting turned around because of that.

So basically what you are saying is, if you are gaining experience while on a mastery track that is at its end-be it complete or not-that excess XP should be converted into spirit shards, yet it isn’t?

If it doesn’t currently work this way because they’ve locked spirit shard gain behind training ALL masteries-including RAID masteries-completely, I cannot say that I agree with that design decision. MMORPG game design shouldn’t be predicated on the expectation that players will be encouraged or motivated to participate in every game mode that the game offers in order to progress. Particularly a game whose stance is “Play your way”.

Ugh, that would be a pain if it worked that way. But no, don’t worry. A year ago they separated spirit shards and XP from each other. They have no relationship.

Since then, people have been wanting something to be done with the XP they were getting once their mastery bar was filled. Anet’s put one thing in place, and people are currently hoping that this can be massaged to cover more players in more situations.

You apparently are not aware that AFTER you complete ALL Mastery tracks, you go back to gaining Spirit Shards for each “level”. This is actually the entire point of this thread. “They have no relationship” is incorrect.

I’m more than aware of the changes. The main problem that the poster was facing was that a lot of people conflate spirit shards and experience. This is a mistake that I see you made above, and I tried to correct it there.

Anet purposefully removed the relationship between spirit shards and experience over a year ago. They did this to encourage people to play the game how they wished, and still get rewarded for it. Since WvW and PvP have their own leveling systems, players would not have been able to receive spirit shards from the PvE levels. Now everyone has access to them simply by playing the game style they prefer.

Since then, as I say in what you quoted, they’ve gone and added rewards for people who have completed masteries, which is what people have been clamoring for. Is it currently a perfect system? Of course not. Are people looking for it to be improved? Of course. Imagine how amazingly this could be expanded? If you don’t need spirit shards, could you perhaps choose mystic coins? Or maybe you’d prefer a tome of knowledge?

My response to the poster was to alleviate their concerns that a system was broken, and explain to them that what they’re seeing is a new system being brought on board.

Edited for clarity’s sake

Going from being able to get XP from doing anything in the game (crafting, PvE, PvP, WvW, Dungeons, Fractals, Raids, etc.) to not being able to get XP at all unless you do very specific things is the definition of restrictive.

I’m guessing you haven’t swung by Spirit Shard since they were updated in with the HoT release. You get spirit shards by doing all of those things, and you don’t have to wait for you character to level anymore!

The wiki is where it is today because you – yes you, the community – have worked to make it so.

Day-in and day-out, contributors of all types are updating the information that we have on the game with the sole purpose of helping other players. I used to try to keep track of what was happening on the Recent Changes page, but I can’t anymore; you guys are crazy, and I love you for it.

What I can’t stress enough is how important the regular player is to maintaining the wiki. For all those who have ever stumbled across something odd, or found that the /wiki command led them somewhere strange, and simply left a note via the talk page or feedback, Thank You.

To end on a note I’ve brought up before, the wiki spans four languages and not all of them have had the ability to grow like the English wiki. If any of you – yes you – are interested in helping out even more, please take a look at them. Links to the wikis below:

What is Anet's stance on P2P trading?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Greener.6204

What’s our stance? No. Just no. Sure it’s possible. Sure, sometimes it works. But sometimes (often enough to be a highlighted concern) it does not. Which is precisely why the developers created the Trading Post …

OK. I have my own guild hall. Could you please tell me, how should I acquire so many acc-bound items (e.g. SW shovels) without p2p trading with people? Oh, you are probably going to tell me that I should spend whole days grinding like crazy in Silverwastes.

In other words: remove acc-bound restrictions (plus yeah, TP fees are ridiculously high) and I am gonna use TP for everything I need.

Your sense of proportion is a bit off. Bolt is worth ~4000g and being scammed over that would be devastating for the seller and a potential windfall for the “buyer”. Scamming shovels at what, 1g per item?, is just silly.

let me rephrase
at the end of the day, the money spent on fluff in a game i already payed to play “should” (the key word that you missed) not be useless to me, myself, and I. I put currency into a system and it can either pay for a specific service or it can remain some form of currency. If that is not the case then i believe gambling would be the more accurate word (that people use loosely) but if I recall, online gambling would limit distribution and thus not be used lightly by those developing the chests.

Gambling would only be an issue if you were getting real world cash (or an equivalent) back from the BL chest. The gambling you’re doing is a form of entertainment, and to make the wins entertaining, they need to be rare. The other items must therefore be of lower quality, which they are.

p.s. how is low chance, low low chance, etc RNG to begin with? random cannot distinguish between low and very low can it? Just a curiosity not addressed to anyone in particular. Mathematicians, feel free to chime in on this one.

More of a comp-sci question, and would depend on how many bits Anet wants to put towards the calculation. Realistically, it’s probably a set of nested tables, where you do an initial roll to see which table to look at, and then roll again inside of that table to see which reward you get.

I’ve got a friend that grabs them at every opportunity to level her alts (she’s still sitting on a level 46 mes, and I know she likely wants to get another alt going).

Perhaps additional sinks are required, for those that don’t have a hall to support nor alts to level?

This game needs new management like air, and one that will consider “quality of life” upgrades such as:

- tying gem purchases with development and letting us know how’s it looking (much like on kickstarter funding, where you see how much was raised and where the money goes)

Anet is not a new kickstarted company. You are not a shareholder. You are not privy to their books. If you’d like to know where your money is going, that’s easy:

Accounting, advertising, benefits, contractors, insurance, legal, licences, maintenance, office supplies, R&D, rent, salaries, servers, taxes, travel, utilities (the list goes on and on, but I got bored)

Suggestions Wasted effort?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Greener.6204

Greener.6204

Personally, I totally believe it’s wasted effort. The selective communications cannot be defended. Posts in the “so called” official forum can reach thousands of views and many hundreds of responses and most don’t get a single response. That’s not just poor communication it’s insulting.

You don’t have to post a suggestion. No one is forcing you to do so. It has been explained ad nauseam why a response from Anet is unlikely, but you don’t have to believe their answers.

This drives players away from posting good possible changes and I’m convinced the game could be more fun for everyone if they simply set a limit on the number of posts or views and when the limit was reached, they respond to the issue.

Do you think people post because they want to see the game improved? Or do you think they post because they want a pat on the back with a “Good job!” or a thumbs up? Granted, those aren’t exclusive from each other, but attention seeking isn’t the best motivator for a forum where the devs have said they won’t be responding a lot (see above section). Edit: I do agree that tacit acknowledgement isn’t the best type for many people, but it’s what the devs have time for.

When so many players have limited time to play, how can there be an “expectation” of having to check the forums for threads, patch notes, survey results, Reddit, Sub reddit, Wiki, and other good intentioned personal websites for what seems to many players to be basic information? This tells me that the effort to hide and surprize outweighs the effort to communicate and what kind of business model is that?

This portion is so out of left field, I’m going to need you to clarify what you mean. Does this relate at all to Anet responding to suggestions? If you want Anet to give players information about updates, how would you prefer they do so? In game? Anet prefers to use the forums, but you seem to be looking for another manner.

Guild Maxed at 500

500 seems low, especially since in GW1, the ‘alliance’ limit was 1000 members (100 each across 10 guilds)

True, but those 1000 only had to affect one chat channel as a group, and one guild panel as an individual. Given that players can belong to multiple guilds, and guild panel now have to gather info on more than 100 players, there may be a technological issue.

But where is that limit? If it was exactly at 500 it would be quite the fluke of technology.

Since this change, while I haven’t spent much time in WvW, I’ve found it exhilarating. Big battles, 1v3’s (which I handedly lost), 3v1’s (which we handedly lost), but a whole ton of fun. I would never have clicked on the WvW button; would never have enjoyed myself; would never have put up a (semi)-good fight for people on the other team; had it not been for this prompt to give it another shot.

It got me into WvW, it’s got other people into WvW, and completing the track is nowhere near the level of time and dedication that other portions of a legendary take.

Also, avoid misrepresenting other people’s arguments: Referring to it as " being turned into a turtle" doesn’t negate their point, it only shows your lack of understanding of their point, or your wish to push their point aside and not discuss it.

7. I was not in any party at the time.

Did the same event, in the same manner, and got the same result. I sent in a bug report via the in-game method soon after crossing the finish line.

Three things occurred before I received the reward.

  1. I was notified the event had finished.
  2. Long pause.
  3. I was notified that my guild had completed the race. I was given the personal reward at this point.
(edit:Forgot to mention the pop-up asking if I wished to accept credit for the event. I believe this occurred after #1, above)

Just ran it a third time, but tried something new at the end, and got a different result.

  1. First pass: Same as above, same result (no personal chest upon crossing finish line).
  2. Second pass: While the SAME event was running, I went back to the start and ran it again. I completed the race and was #15/15. I received the bouncing chest RIGHT then, as I normally would have expected.

I sent another in-game bug report just a moment ago showing the collection.

Loot Tables . . .

Sentinel’s Scout Hammer is a heart vendor item. You likely received it when opening a package from Mawdrey II or another item which converts materials. They tend to drop heart vendor items (which are always soul bound and never salvageable).

I buy a lot of sand. I usually never buy enough when I place buy orders, so for those last minute purchases I go to people’s sell orders. If there are people currently flipping coarse sand, then I thank them for offering me a lower last minute price. It’s what they do.

As for tagging each item purchased with a price- and time-stamp, how would Anet ever be able to appropriately mark each pile of sand out of my hundreds? How would I be able to go through and separate them if I wanted to sell them?

If you’re having trouble buying or selling an item, look at the two prices you see on the Trading Post (e.g. 1s86c and 2s47c). Those are the prices that the item is currently not trading at. Think of a value between those that you’d be happy to buy/sell the item for (lets say 2s10c), and place that order. If someone is trying to flip those items, they’ll either cut heavily into their profits and try to outbid you, or they’ll have to wait for your order to be filled.

Open up a dialogue with Support (submit a request in the top right of that page).
While they likely cannot change the item from soul-bound to account-bound, they may be able to offer another solution.

Guild Investigation: Guild Race Rewards

One oddity I noticed was that I received the bouncy chest when the race itself was completed, not when I crossed the finish line.

1. May 16th – 22nd (Wish I could be more accurate. I believe the Daily was to do events in Diessa which led me to that map.)
2. I represented Siblings of Vengeance [SoV]. Another guild had started the event. I queued up the mission for SoV once I saw the event was going.
3. Devourer Burrow (though I stayed on the map to harvest, and received the bouncy chest once the timer on the event ran out, and the event had succeeded).
4. Yes, I’ve done this race before and received the appropriate reward upon crossing the finish line.

No gear from chest when opening on low level?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Greener.6204

Greener.6204

The loot tables for those bags for lower levels was probably never populated (the game rolls to see what you get to match your level, and comes back with nothing). This could be by design.

As for why they are account bound, it’s probably closer to why would you make them soul bound. If they’re soul bound, it adds annoying restrictions such as not being able to put them in your bank as you’re going along, or wanting to open them up on another character who may have an empty inventory, allowing for better sorting, etc.

Calmed Beetles with Spores

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Greener.6204

Greener.6204

It sounds like you’re at the right event, but I have found participating in it to be a struggle sometimes.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lure_the_beetles_near_mushrooms_to_calm_them_by_releasing_spores_from_nodules

First off, to calm them, they need to wander near the mushrooms. This step can take a while, especially if other people are doing the event. The spores have a limited range so make sure the beetle is up close before hitting the mushroom. You can also grab a “fishing rod” of sorts from the nearby hylek rooms which have some useful skills.

If there are too many people around completing the event, just ask if you can calm one. I prefer to stand at the mushroom which is just outside their pen, but so do a lot of other people

On what may be a red herring, I recall the achievements being mixed up for the Nuhoch at one point. Try participating in all the Nuhoch events, especially trying to complete the first one.

Glider Suggestions? Share Them Here!

Greener.6204

If you look at the pricing model, the Wings of Love sold for only 400 gems, meaning it was meant to be a glider, and not a backpack. The combos are normally priced around 700 gems.

But yes, perhaps next year they’ll offer the option to upgrade

Please Make It Possible To Choose Dailies

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Greener.6204

Greener.6204

You don’t need to have HoT “fully explored” to do the adventures or really any of the HoT dailies. Just run to the relevant area.

This is a wholly unnecessary change. It doesn’t seem worth the dev time in the slightest.

Today’s daily requires you to have the correct mastery unlocked and that takes millions of XP. Just offer a greater variety of dailies and let us play the ones we want.

But you still haven’t presented where any undue difficulty is. You prefer to do PvE dailies of which there are 4. You can do 3 of those easily, while 1 you cannot yet do. You need to get 3 done. Where is the real problem you’re facing?

On TP Masterwork Greatsaws (not a skin) [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Greener.6204

Greener.6204

Anet created the Skins and the Weapon versions of these items at the same time, as is seen by their item codes: 36332 and 36339 for the Ghastly Grinning Shield; 36334 and 36340 for the Greatsaw.

While I don’t recall the original means to get the Weapons, they were in line with how transmutation was done back then. For a single transmutation charge, the level zero (useless) weapon could be mixed with any other weapon, maintaining the latter’s level and upgrades. If the player received a Skin, then they could apply it without the cost of the transmutation charge.

Edit: Likely scenario: Skins came from Black Lion Chests, as you had already used gems to get keys, so forcing you to use gems again to buy transmutation charges would just be evil. Weapons came from in-game events, such as a Mad King’s Chest reward, so players are pushed to buy the charges with gems.

As for conspiracy theories, really people? These are scrapping the bottom of the barrel! People have items in their inventories from years ago. Nothing strange about that.

Most profitable meta maps?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Greener.6204

Greener.6204

Seeing as how the maps have meta events which last for very different amounts of time, were you asking which one provides the best riches in general at the end? Or on a gold per unit of time rate?

For other maps, you can also take a look at the rewards from map events page . Factoring in the additional rewards from the mobs, why aren’t you in Cursed Shores right now?

How is HoT difficulty?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Greener.6204

Greener.6204

There are plenty of new players that have only been playing anywhere from several months to a year that will argue they still see plenty of difficulty within parts of core Tyria.

Have you met a bell-curve, yet?

Rhetorical questions aside, I won’t be online much until after the 22nd, but if you’re interested in exploring HoT, and learning some techniques on how to handle different mobs, send me a message. I’ve got plenty of characters which I haven’t brought through the maps (a few still in rare armour, etc.), and I’d enjoy a chance to see how they do and finding out how to make them work. You learn, I learn, we both win!

How is HoT difficulty?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Greener.6204

Greener.6204

If you treat each death as a learning experience (and there will be plenty of deaths), you’ll be amazed at how quickly you can excel in the HoT maps. Died many times while running past pocket raptors? Try fighting them. Can’t take them all down? Bring attacks with AoE damage and cleave.

Along with you gaining personal experience and tactics, your characters will as well. Tired of being kited by hylek assassins? When you gain Stealth Detection, you’ll become the hunter. Can’t escape from a chak filled tunnel? When you learn to use their wallows, you’ll have more escape routes.

Basically, the more you play, the more both you and your characters learn. Just don’t forget that first part: You’re expected to actively learn from your mistakes
