Hi there,
I try to keep it short this time!
So after Southsun Cove, Dry Top and the Silverwastes, with the last two being literally a prelude to HoT, I wanted to ask if this is the “future” of how all lvl 80 maps will be like in HoT. Heart Quests are pretty dead by now and we get decreasingly Vistas + Skill Point challenges. It’s all about rushing between Dynamic Events. The beta map was rather confusing and felt a bit like a less optimal Silverwaste copy. And since the events on the map are essential to unlock masteries; I can’t see all my 8 characters + the revenant to grind events all day long right now. Maybe I will do that with 2 characters, but that’s all the event grind I might want to do, seeing how slow the EXP gain was during those 2 hours.
So… no more “classic but likable” heart quests in the future…?
Masteries are account wide aren’t they? Do on one character, unlocks for all yeah?
Mastery points are account wide. I’m not sure about the actual masteries.
everything about the masteries were accountwide in the beta at least, i had unlocked the first part of mushroom jumping on my revenant in the first 2 hour playsession, when i came back having delete that char and made a mesmer instead, the masteries were exactly where i left them
tomes and writs will not work on a lvl 80 char yeah, since masteries will not be tied to xp in the final build
i also would like to know: are writs of experience usable to raise the mastery bar or just for leveling?
Writs, tomes, exp boosters, exp banners, food that gives exp, etc… as they are now will not advance the mastery bar.
http://www.zam.com/story.html?story=35818&storypage=2
“The masteries seen in the demo are just the tip of what masteries will be available at launch, and the team will have more surprises for players. We wanted to know if all those consumables, like Tomes of Knowledge and Writs of Experience, would help players unlock all of these masteries faster. The short answer is that they won’t. The experience bar is going away and is being replaced by the mastery training bar. This training bar is in no way tied to experience, but fills up by going out and doing stuff in the world. So any item that gives you experience won’t help you train masteries.”Which is rather silly. In the beta, getting kills and doing events, both gave you exp. The mastery bar said you needed # amount of exp to level it, so they haven’t implemented a “mastery training bar” yet, or changed that at lvl 80 things don’t give you exp anymore, but instead mastery exp. The fact that writs and tomes won’t be useable to fill the bar just makes them useless outside of key farmers (I assume most people have all the lvl 80s they want already, and if not now, what about getting 10? tomes every month from the monthly log ins, the 5-10 writs you get from doing your dailies, and all the stacks of tomes you get from pvp).
They haven’t even technically, specified that tomes will even give a lvl 80 the new mystic forge currency. If it doesn’t they’ll be just as useless as writs.
I’m going to make the assumption that the tomes will be changed so they give a level to those chars below level 80 and to all levels they will give the new MF currency. That way they will be of the same use as currently.
Then you are making an assumption that goes directly against the official video that cocowoushi.7150 linked a few posts above your own
Yeah, my guess is that the new specialization will be unveiled next week. (Coincidentally, I heard that it will be Thief).
So, we’ll probably see Rifle-Thief next week.
I’m pretty sure ANet never said anything remotely close to the order they will release them, so what you heard if likely speculations, with no evidence to back up
Actually they are just following this order:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/
Ranger is next.
Just because it happens to have followed that order for now, is in no way, shape or form evidence that they will continue to do so, unless an ANet employee specifically state that that is their intent. Could be pure coincidence
I would also like to state that, while not a UI concern, I’m not really fond of the XP/leveling method of ‘training’ masteries. I’d much rather see special events/mini-dungeons/encounters/etc. that unlock specific mastery abilities.
Grind ‘XP’/spend is just kind of samey and bland.
I agree. I was disappointed as to how masteries are acquired. People will end up maxing them out in a week. It should also take longer like the WvW system. I actually thought we would have to do some gliding to increase the xp for it, or use shrooms to increase it.
While i agree i dont like the xp method, i highly doubt they be maxed out in a week. first of all there is different set of masteries for the new maguma jungle maps and for the old world, you only get mastery points and xp for the masteries for the area you are in, so running around in say shiverpeaks or ascalon will give you xp and allow you to find mastery points for the old world, running around in verdant brink gives you xp and mastery points towards maguma masteries.
On top of this you need a LOT of xp to max out, first level masteries took about 254k xp, 2nd level however would take around 1.1k (4 TIMES as much) if they keep increasing like that you would need like 64mil xp for each tier 5 mastery, ofc i doubt anyone would get even one t2 in the time we had in beta and deffo noone would get a t3, so noone can truly know.
but beside the xp once you got a tier grinded out you need to spend mastery points to unlock it and well looking at the panel t1 and t2 each took 1 mastery point, t3 took 4 i think, forgot t4 and t5 took 10 mastery points, which would also take a lot of time and effort to get all of them..
And we might not even have seen all the mastery lines they gonna implement at launch, so for all we know they could end up with 10 or 20 lines for each world part.
And lastly it is NOT exactly uncommon practice to speed up the gain of xp and the like during betas etc to allow ppl in the short timeframe to advance faster than they normally could
account i had made a new char and already had my glider in silverwastes
I can confirm this, i too made a new character and had kept my mastery (in my case it was the mushrooms though :P)
That’s the general idea of what they wanted, but you can only guess how far they actually take it. Since the profession icon will be changing, you can assume the name will also, or at the very least, it’ll be noted.
Jon PetersSo when you make your ranger a druid, you are a druid, you have a druid profession icon and players can know that’s a druid and they have a good idea of what a druid does and what the druid profession mechanics are.
Do keep in mind that quotation is from AFAIK before the new trait system reveal so it might not be that accurate anymore, as from what i understand it gonna work quite different compared to the original plan. So dont really think anyone can say for sure, short of an ANet employee
Yeah, my guess is that the new specialization will be unveiled next week. (Coincidentally, I heard that it will be Thief).
So, we’ll probably see Rifle-Thief next week.

search for gw2 specilisations or something like that on youtube and you should find it, or go look at ANet’s twitch page
I strongly agree with OP. It’s a good idea and it’s easy to implement.
Although, I would add that if this was to be implemented, I’d recommend the insertion of the password to be through a virtual keyboard. You know, the one you click with the mouse on the screen.
That would help against key loggers.
Considering it as a feature in the launcher as well is not a bad idea either in my opinion.
NO, NO, NO, NO please NO virtual keyboard password, is a PAIN THE THE KITTEN to type passwords on such, a code that would take most people 1-2 seconds to write with a normal keyboard can easily take up to 10-20 or more seconds on a virtual keyboard, is too much compromise on the convenient to use side, compared to the security in the first place. I’m fine with a normal password if they implement that, i can live with it, I virtual keyboard i CANNOT. While that may not count for everyone, i very much doubt i am alone either saying that i likely would never use a guild bank ever again if such feature was there with VK. Matter of fact the vast majority of guilds bank passwords with a VK would likely be some 4digit number code(or similar) as they are a bit easier to type in than full-fledged passwords on a VK, and as such if they got into your guild leader account they more than likely can crack that extra password in no time as well
And in the first place if your guild leader had opted to use 2-step verification, he more than likely would never had been hacked at all, the security should be focused on the accountlevel in this case, which is already more than sufficient options for players to make. Is really no excuse to not have 2-step tbh any phone can have the app needed, and you can even get software you install on your computer if need be (though it is far more optimal on your phone). And if the hacker got through that kind of security (that is 1000 times as secure and user friendly than a VK) your guild leader should be having bigger things to worry about than your guild bank

Even if it is the best gear in the game it is still optional. I am fine with this type of “grind”.
It could be considered p2w if gear is available ONLY in the gems store.
And even then you could argue if it truely p2w in gw2 since we can convert gold to gems, so no need to pull out the credit card for it
im pretty certain if that were to happen Anet would implement a reliable way to get them, and as such the prices would fall DRASTICALLY.
Also the stat combo is called zealot btw keeper is only the ascended version, you dont see people talking about zojja gear either do you? they talk about zerker gear
i managed to get it but yeah it kinda weird. basically i got it by trying to jump up and while jumping at the very far left side (assuming you are facing towards the mastery point) i got a f action in midair i could press to get the interact widow up, and it stayed up even when i landed where i normally couldn’t interact with it. but yeah is kinda ridiculous taht one, hope they change that one
you are free to make any chracter you want, your choice, most people make a revenant becasue it is new, and well i did so for first part, didnt like it too much so deleted it and gonna make another class for 2nd part (likely thief or mesmer as that are the 2 classes i know best) so i can focus a bit more on the map itself than the class im playing, since i know those
Can't join because it's already in progress?

Beta is not up currently, 2nd part of it will start in 5 mins from this post

I see, it’s probably the Daylight Savings time messing the conversions up… how handy these things are.
yeah if you ask me we should totally get rid of daylight savings times, doing more harm than good in todays worlds
hi i got email saying 11.30 am pst, im guessing its 18.30 uk time but i cant create a character.
have i got time wqrong?
No it would be 19:30 in the UK
Last night, someone dropped an aviator’s box right on top of a vista in Black Citadel (the one everyone runs to for Ascalon vista viewer). So, you had to really maneuver around to find the vista.
or you could have used your mouse to click the vista
Would seem neither I guess. 6:30pm is GMT+0 (British time). Pacific Time is -7 if I’m correct/
GMT+0 is NOT british time currently, that would be GMT+1 (GMT+0 is british time only during the winter).
And this is why imo daylight saving time should not exist in the first place… causes more problems than good things :P
can just see it for me, a whole guild standing shoulder to shoulder at each exit from the borders… yeah… NOT a good idea
So you people complain when there is not enough info, and then you go ahead and complain when there is too much info too… poor ANet can’t be easy
I think it could work if they did it using the same restrictions as they’ve had in place for previous free trials: can’t talk in map chat or send whispers, can’t send items or gold by mail, can’t deposit to or withdraw from guild banks, can’t buy gems or use the gold to gem exchange. I can’t remember if they could use the trading post though.
And obviously add either a time or level limit so they can’t keep playing indefinitely.
While yes this is pretty much needed restrictions or we would get a HUGE influx of gold seller advertising accounts, but on the other hand it is so restricted it could literally turn off people from buying the game because of it
And for your argument, every one can open own store and sell bread too.
Sorry but no, jsut no, opening a shop to sell bread IRL would first of all require a shop to sell from which would cost a LOOOOOT of money in itself, and then you need to get a “business license” (not sure what the correct name is for it really) before you even allowed to, among a lot of other stuff, so it is FAR from that simple

Before people farm for hours and hours on end for portals, you should have told people the test was going to be a grand total of 6 hours, split into 2 hour blocks.
People would have had a lot less frustration in farming had they known it really wasn’t going to be worth the effort.
Or maybe you should keep in mind that they have stated that the beta portal you farmed will work for all subsequent betas. Not just this one.
Source? I dont remember them saying anything like that, in fact in the bottom of the mail i got now it says “*This invitation is for this Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns testing event only. This does not guarantee access to future events. Invitation is non’transferable. A current Guild Wars 2 account and Internet access are required to participate.”
As Just a flesh wound.3589 pointed out use a guild shared between the 2 of you also to transfer anything, using mails will be a pain in the kitten due to flood protection allowing you to only send 2-3 mails before you will get blocked from sending from a long time after

I think people have a right to be angry about this. The whole participating in a beta thing has no detail. People don’t all know to expect limited times. Many people would have expected more.
No they don’t, they dont even have a right for a chance, being part of the beta is a PRIVILEGE not a right
Yes, I recognize that Anet is a US-based company, but that doesn’t keep me from feeling like I’m beeing treated as a second class player right now.
For most Europeans 2 out of these 3 times lots are simply not playable. Why the 2 hour spaces in-between the beta? Seriously, playable time left for EU is 20:30 – 22:30, because if you have work, university, school or whatever on Wednesday 00:30 – 02:30 is out of the question. If they would at least make it from 20:30-6:30 we could get some decent hours in.
As ist stands I feel cheated, because EUs farmed as hard for their keys as NAs, but get only 1/2 of the experience – Arenanet obviously wants my money, but they don’t care for me as a player.
It wouldn’t have killed anyone to make this a 24 hour beta to give all of us the same chance at enjoying the new content…
The breaks are most likely so they can work and patch up any bugs, issues, crashes etc that might happen for the next round. I fully expected something like this and accespt it (and im from EU)
Being part of the beta is a PRIVILEGE not a right you have, so treat it like such
Why isn’t anything being named after me? I’m the kitten Commander of the Pact! I and my group are the ones who defeated Scarlet! Where’s my recognition from this ungrateful city?
I agree. There should be something for the player character.
How about a prominent street name? In one of the outlying communities of my home city is a small seaside township. One of their streets is called “Captain’s Walk”.
Which one has to admit… is pretty darn charming.
So how about a
“Commander’s Walk” somewhere?
- Hang on. If your making a ‘bridge-way’ to Claw Island… Ooo yes…. That would be an awesome spot. If not… anywhere then.
I dont think it would be feasible to make a bridge from LA to Claw Island, where would you have it go without blocking all ship traffic in and out of LA?
Though i do like the ideas of a Commander’s walk somewhere or something like that
While slow may be counter-intuitive to confusion, those running with interrupt builds will LOVE the slow will make it possible to interrupt stuff that were pretty much impossible before.
As for the speed chrono get time marches on yes, BUT a regular mesmer can take signet of inspiration and it will proc swiftness as well as one other boon each time, so is certainly fixed for non-chrono mesmers too
Only thing said about release of the trait system is it will come before HoT, so could be later today, could be in like 3 years
Earliest possible date would be June 30th from the looks of things because it’s 1 elite specialization per week and there are 9 to go through. This could shrink or grow depending on how well development is going.
And what does elite specialisations have to do with when they can release the core specialisations?, the elites ones we know wont be before HoT so for the HoT release you are correct, but for the core specs with the new system there is nothing we know of that prevents them from releasing it tonight (not that i expect but with what we know it as good of a possibility as any other time frame
Only thing said about release of the trait system is it will come before HoT, so could be later today, could be in like 3 years
Between 0 and 10.000.000
There is really no way we can give any even half-educated geusses
Also ranger is getting staff as the druid so the chance that the warrior also gets a staff very close to 0%
Anet has said all Professions will have access to all weapons eventually
Hold on there.
Compare Warrior with Engineer. Ain’t happening.
How is that all Professions will have access to all weapons in the game comparing Warrior with Engineer?
For now it seems Specialization may focus only on giving the Profession the weapons they do not have access to beyond their Base Profession set up.
So eventually Warriors will have access to Pistols, Daggers, sceptors, staffs, torch and shortbows through Specializations.
Same with Engineer and the other professions for any weapon they’re currently not able to use.
They will just have a different twist to their game play like how Rev will be the first profession to use Staff as a melee weapon.
I think his point is that engineer would need double if not triple the amount of spec than a warrior to gain access to all weapons
Whatever the case, the RNG system is flawed and needs to be fixed so everyone has an equal chance. If it was truly random, the majority of portal winners would not be repeatedly be getting multiple portals.
A truly random system will contain clusters and repeats.
Yes but not to the extent this is happening. it doesn’t seem like everyone has an equal chance? I get that they don’t want all players who are trying to get one to be in the beta, else yes they should have made it open, but if its such a rare drop how are people getting 3 or 5 plus unless their accounts have a luck bonus or something.
So do you have the exact, objective data of at least a 1000 players? (ppl linking portals in chat is FAR from being exact objective data btw, as you can use chat codes to link stuff like that without even having even one portal). If you dont you cant really make such a claim
They could have easily added a check that went “oh hey we’re about to drop this portal for someone. check if they are already in beta. Oh they are.. ok don’t make it appear”
The problem is that while we understand statsiticallly that it does not matter how many someone else gets the psychology of it is bad. They could fix all the psychological bits by that one simple check.
Obviously it doesn’t actually matter but the perception of the thing is almost as important as the reality.
that would NOT be easy and they chance it would bug out and think someone got the portal, without they actually got it or similar would be pretty big, and thus landing us as this actual situation where some might not get it because of their account, ironic right?
I’m OK with no IN COMBAT death rezzing.
As in, if I am in combat, I am unable to attempt to rez a fully dead player.
The problem is you can sometimes get bugged in some way and be stuck in combat even though you not really in it
Also in fractals at least you actually sometimes want to ress ppl during combat to not having to fight the boss all over again
I love people holding GW2 combat as some sort of holy grail.
actually get out and play a game besides GW2 and you’ll see that there are games with gameplay on par or superior to it, and LoL is one of them.
you cant really say one is better than the other really, as the 2 combat system er jsut so different on a very fundamental level
It’s never a waste of time discussing something like stats. If people didn’t discuss game issues then they would never get any feed-back. What they do with that feed-back is another matter.
Maybe you would like to discuss your cat, well if you have one.
The biggest point that anet has to consider is the backlash from players who crafted it. Be it from the amount of gold they chucked at it, to the massive amount of time. If you look at the current thread about traits, i can tell you this would be way way worse. if they do this, i know many many people who would leave the game, not because the stats matter(lets face it, i wish our armor was still like GW1 armor), but because they lost something they put so much time in to get. Much like if ANET decided to just pull the Obsidian armor out of GW1, how would you have felt after putting in so much time for something?
What if they redesigned them, so that they looked a lot better with better effects?
After all some of those with them say the stats are not important.
That is the point though isn’kitten Stats aren’t the main issue, it is time+effort invested. Compensation in any form would make this far more agreeable for many, but there needs to also be a functionality to it.
The convenience of being able to change stats like a Legendary Weapon when equip would be an amazing feature that would make many people see Ascended armor as an End game goal without being required to do so if you don’t mind swapping armor sets.
In fact, I believe with the introduction of Legendary Armor highly possible at some point, perhaps Ascended pieces can be the equivalent of a precursor for said appearance and effects of a Leggy Armor set.
Think about it, the stat gap is closed, and there is a very real benefit to having ascended armor WITHOUT putting Exotic players at a disadvantage in actual gameplay. Just quality of life.
Of course there will always be back lash, but compensation in the form above or any other substantial way will placate and make any change easier to stomach for many I’d imagine.
having ascended act as a kind of precursor would be an amazing idea actually, and help newer players actually notice it would be something special when they did happen to drop one, wouldn’t be surprised if the amount of precursors that been sold or salvages or similar by newer players would be pretty high over the course of the games life simply because they didn’t know any better, and should be pretty simply to up the current precursors to ascended status to make it even for it all
I agree! What do you think of saving Runes+Stat select? I don’t think it is unfair on Exotic’s in actual gameplay, it is just so much more convenient that Ascended seems attractive to any gamer who’d like it a bit easier on his/her inventory and Quality of life.
See my own edit, edited in a response to that before i saw your next post :P

EDIT: and i SO agree on your edit as well, while it might drop some of the more expensive runes a bit, as you said you still need to make the first buy so likely not, and on the other hand i believe it would increase the demand (and thus price) of the many very situational and thus currently only used by a very small percent of players at least as much if not more, as it would be viable for anyone to actually use them then when needed
(edited by GummiBear.2756)
There are literally hundreds of thousands of different builds you could make with the elite specialization alone, and there are certain builds that do not require the elite specializations to function. Many people may try the elites out at first, but that’s to be expected with something new. I don’t think we have anything to worry about at the moment.
and even more importantly there is quite a few builds that would NOT work with the elite specialisations too, as they simply would need 3 core trait lines
sorry to burst your bubbles, but smite have had chronomancer for a LOOOONG time, including a elite that is pretty much continuum shift https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLDeOMiXFfk
When do these portals stop dropping?
noone knows, they only said it would be running for at least a week, well geuss what that about 2 weeks ago and it still running, so basically when ANet deem they got enough players for the beta
the skill scrolls yeah doesn’t matter if you consume now or not. Another thing to note thoguh is the tomes of knowledge, these will NOT be usable by characters at lvl 80 anymore(this was officially said in a dev video (forgot which exactly though, think it might have been the 4h one that went over all the core class changes)), so you should not save anymore of these than you plan to actually use to lvl up any new characters you make, if you have more than you need, it would be best to use them now on your maxed chars, so as to convert them to skill points and thus get the new currency out of those as well.
While i dont remember them saying it specifically about writs too, i kinda assume the same would apply there, and thus you can do the same for them, only save any you need to lvl chars
(edited by GummiBear.2756)
Thats odd…im gaining money while also gather materials to craft my ascended armor…i dont buy anything for it at all…while im out exploring the world or doing whatever i want in whatever zone im in i gather everything while im out there, i dont skip mobs etc, the amount of loot one gets doing that is pretty impressive! Sure im not anywhere near as much money as i could be making, but im having fun doing it and thats all that matters to me
and all the mats you using to make the asc. gear you could have sold for even more money (or used for recipes for other skins you really wanted) if you didn’t have to get the asc. gear
You are right, no drop in game WORKED like that before, but this is a special item that is for beta only. All other drops in game will drop after portals are removed from game.
Here’s how it was advertised:
Starting tomorrow, April 28, heroes adventuring in the Maguuma Wastes have a chance to find a mysterious portal to the heart of the Maguuma Jungle. Looting one of these special trophy items grants you access to the next Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™ PvE closed beta event!
I’ll point out one bit of that section: heroes have A chance to find A mysterious portal.
A chance to find A portal. Not multiple chances to find multiple portals.
This is why we complain, why we post “nonsense” threads as you claim. Anet should have been a lot more clearer in the detail. The reason they haven’t been is because they didn’t think that this would happen.
This is confounded by the fact Anet have not responded to any of the threads.
So I fully understand and agree with everyone who says it should be one portal and one portal only. It’s how it was advertised. So if you want to say we are talking nonsense then I’m afraid (that after you read the announcement for it) that it is you talking nonsense.
If it had been advertised as many chances to get many portals there may have been moaning, but at least t would have been expected.
please be consistent, if you go by that logic (which is totally not how the English language works, but lets assume for a second it does), then you would only ever get a chance on the very first event or mob (whatever happens first) you kill/complete in SW or DT, and if you didn’t get anything there… well tough luck, you want get another chance
this whole thread is a joke, you people lvl to 80 and then complain about nothing to do. Then you want them to make legendary gear? when you can’t even make ascended? LOL
This. Honestly, I’m a lazy gamer when it comes to stuff like this, and there are plenty of youtube video guides that can get you from 1-400 in under an hour in the most optimal way possible. If I can craft ascended weapons, then anyone can. lol
Nobody said it was hard or required any skill. It’s just grind (either for mats, or for gold to buy mats) – and a lot of it. The fact that there’s nothing interesting whatsoever about it makes the whole matter even worse.
This, and it takes away time and gold you could have used on acquiring stuff you actually want like skins, commander tag or whatever you fancy in the game, you know that supposed horizontal progression
Even if Ascended stats were lowered to exotic level, you wouldn’t lose the reward. The reward is in the infusion slots.
Sadly, this isn’t entirely true. Ascended jewelry cannot be equipped with gemstones, and thus can’t have their stats improved beyond infusions which only give +5 to a single stat at best. They make up for this by having their gemstone equivalent rolled into their primary stat for the jewelry.
If you made them give the same stats, they would be worse than an upgraded masterwork version.
I guess you haven’t heard about WvW +5 stat infusions…
WvW stat infusions have no agony bonuses, unlike the crafted ones you can make which have both. They also cost laurels, at 5 for the cheapest stat. You’ll need a total of 70 laurels to get a stat on every item.
Ascended gear was originally intended for Fractals, with the purpose of giving added bonuses from infusions. The stat increase was to cater to all the crybabies from other MMO’s that wanted gear to grind. It never needed a stat boost.
The stat bonus is a reward for the effort involved in making the gear. It’s a 5% increase, so it’s not drastic enough to cause major balancing issues but it’s a nice touch for people who have spent the huge amounts of time and gold to invest in a set.
The real question you need to ask yourselves is why do you want to remove something that people worked hard to earn, when it clearly doesn’t have as great an impact on gameplay as you might like to believe?
