Beta Key / Portal Drops

What some of you are missing out on, is that once a player got a portal he/she should have been removed from the player pool.

And then that system bugs out and people get removed from the pool without having gotten a portal. Something that would be basically impossible to discover due to the low droprate and thus someone might spend hours upon hours without even a CHANCE of getting the drop.

Building a system like that for might very well be a single event when it is quite possible that it could lead to quite bad bugs is stupid. Simple as that.

and ironically enough those bugs would actually make a lot of those conspiracy theories circling around true

By the same measure of statistics you claim the system is working as intended.
It is also showing that it is NOT and something is off.

You are just content ignoring what is staring you in the face.

did you read my WHOLE post, all 3 of the lines? it is the very concept of outliers, and if that did NOT happen then something would indeed be wrong with it… jeez do i really have to repeat myself?

they already upped the drop chance after the 1st week, and it is not a matter of there being a specific amount of portals that can drop, but rather how long ANet let the game generate portals by means of RNG. and yes as Donari said they will also fill in the gaps if they dont get enough in time with newsletter subs

In fact this was probably the safest way to do it, because coding something that shuts off the drop after you got it the first time could lead to very dangerous bugs.

oh you mean like what is happening now with people getting as many as 8 portals ! (sarcasm)

Sure, some may say it doesn’t affect anyone else, (sarcasm they prob already have their portal)

But all this [censored] aside my point is this:

A very minuscule percentage of people getting 8 copies of an item so many are after with such a low probability of dropping seems to indicate a very LARGE issue with a.net RNG systems.

Now come and tell me it is working as intended !!!

Just playing devil’s advocate here, but what if they DID make a boo boo with the code that suppose to make sure people only got 1 portal, and instead what the code does is keep giving them portal after portal ?

Sure, ill tell you, it is working as intended, in fact i would be more concerned if something like that did NOT happen, is what you call outliers. Go learn some basic statistics before you start complaining about it

am i wrong by saying that i can play a dragon hunter the exact same way as a guardian if i decide to ignore the longbow and trap skills? (besides the f1-f3 active skill changes, tho i do get to keep the same passives there)

Yes and no, you certainly can ignore the traps and the longbow if you so wish, however you the elite specialization (dragon hunter in this case) takes up one of the 3 specialisations (traitlines) you will pick for your build, and that alone will probably change it quite a bit how it should be played

… okay i was wrong there is ONE weapon with 5… doesn’t change my point in the slightest (and no underwater weapons doesn’t count either)

Dagger
Sword
Greatsword
Staff(after HoT)

All have five, with most of the others having 4 after HoT.

Dagger have 4 (Necro, Thief, Ele, ranger, and ranger is even only offhand so could argue for 3½ only)
sword has 5 as stated earlier
Greatsword has 4 (Guardian, Warrior, Ranger, Mesmer)
Staff is 4 (Guardian, Ele, Mesmer, Necro)
So yes sword is the ONLY weapon with 5, and even if you were right it would STILL not change my point the sligthest, the fact that rifle is FAR from alone in being on 2 classes only and a lot of weps still being 3, which is only 1 above

and since OP is saying 2 rifle and while not official it is pretty certain that thief gets rifle in HoT we are obviously talking about current pre-exp GW2

(I’m not stupid enough to not double and triple check my facts when i make a mistake once :P)

Why do players get multiple portal drops?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GummiBear.2756

GummiBear.2756

So all the guild wars playing take turns rolling a 10,000 sided dice. If they get a 1 then the player gets into beta. The number 1 is not removed from dice.

A very good point. But bear in mind the problem with you statement:

The number 1 is not removed from the dice, this is how it should be. But note that the guild wars players who roll a 1 on that 10,000 dice are not removed from the pool of players trying to roll a 1.

And so does this also mean that some guild wars players are getting more rolls of the dice than others?

I think it’s a fair question.

I mean no offense, but I don’t really think you thought this question through before asking it. “And so does this also mean that some guild wars players are getting more rolls of the dice than others?”

Let me try to explain this,
The “number of rolls” that players get is directly correlated to how much they grind SW/Drytop, depending mainly on how many events they complete and how many mobs they kill. A mob kill is a roll. An event chest is a roll. A bonus event chest is a roll. Players themselves actually have total control over how many rolls they get. So yes some players are getting more rolls of the dice than others, but that is because they are grinding more than others and hitting more events than other players.

RNG is RNG is RNG is RNG. Its random.

Technically the amount of events you hit, your magic find, and the mobs you kill all correlate to your chances of receiving a beta drop. However, people who grind less are still able to get portal drops than people who might grind more due to RNG. However, your chances are still technically higher if you grind more. This does not mean that that player got more rolls then you, it just means they rolled the “1” on the RNG and you didn’t.

I personally got mine off of a bonus event chest claiming Indigo in SW.

Also, I believe someone getting multiple portal drops, also has no effect on others getting it. Your roll is your roll.

Also, someone getting multiple portal drops, only claims 1 beta access spot.
There is no point in getting salty over this.
Just work for it if you really want one. If you don’t, then give up.
Simple as that.

That doesnt make sense, as some people have been playing for days and not got a drop, so they would have had many many more chances to get one than others, and yet some players have reported being in the SW/DP for one event or just a few minutes and getting a drop.

So not totally correct that playing more gives you more rolls to get one.

Just like if you buy lotto coupons, even if you buy 1000 lotto coupons, it might still be the guy that buys the 1 coupon that wins the grand price, same things goes here, more rolls equal more chances, but not amount of rolls guarantee you get one

Would you find merging Boons/Conditions good?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GummiBear.2756

GummiBear.2756

might and fury in one? regen and prot in one? are you kidding me? as if those boons each are not good enough by themselves, would be WAY overpowered.

Also any condi focused build can dish out way more conditions than most builds can remove (and those that can remove a lot of conditions are usually either weaker against direct dmg, or dont have muce dmg themselves)
And same can really be said the other way about boons.

And they ARE making drastic improvements to condition system in the expansion, and boons are more or less fine as they are, well applied boons can turn the tide of any battle

So few rifle classes...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GummiBear.2756

GummiBear.2756

also thief use shortbow, where rangers can use both short and longbow, and warrior can only use longbow, so there is just as many rifle classes as there are short bow class, as well as longbow classes. and yeah hammer also have just 2 classes currently, warrior and guardian. And of the pistol only 2 classes can wield it in 2 hands (and dual wield it) namely the engineer and thief. Mace can only be used by guardian and warrior too. And about half or more of the weapons i didn’t list have 3 classes, and very few weapons have 4, and no weapon are used by more than that, so rifle is far from special there

If OP is complaining about hyenas, he’s going to rage quit if he ever steps foot into cursed shore

Fun fact. I actually spent months without teleporting in Cursed Shore, gathering mats for my legendary. It was fun and challenging.
Getting hit by hyenas isn’t neither fun nor challenging. There’s a slight difference. Just saying.

You guys are just silly. You make absolutely no sense. You talk about rewards, which hyenas don’t give. Then about challenge, which hyenas don’t give. And about dodging experience, which hyenas don’t give. It’s like you put random text all over this thread.

I’m guessing you’re talking about the hyenas in SW, where the entire map is a challenge and the map itself is a reward, is it not? I would assume doing the events is more of a challenge than most of the events cursed shored use to have which was tag the mob before everyone else killed them. I would still have crippling hyenas which are in fewer numbers than those menders that u have to keep attacking and walking forward to interrupt again otherwise they regain their health back, OMG that step forward makes me want to rage quit aaarrrrgggghhhh

haha yeah menders those are the TRUELY annoying mobs in SW… xD and 3-4 of them together… well if you dont have some sort of aoe that knock them back a bit that big enough to hit them all… good luck… But like everything else there are still ways to deal with them, so i do that

in response to another previous post about legendaries, this is a REALLY GOOD POINT. I didn’t think about it because I don’t have one. Would those of you who would have the armor gap closed also have the weapon gap closed so that legendaries are the same stats as exotics? And if not, why is that different?

Ofc the legendary should be the same as exotics if the gap get closed just like it was before ascended got introduced, yes at launch exotic were the best gear you could get, and legendary weapons had exotic stats

Why do players get multiple portal drops?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GummiBear.2756

GummiBear.2756

Yeah, instead of wondering or envying people with multiple drops you instead should take pity on them. The extra portal drop does absolutely nothing (except maybe braging rights) but instead could have been some thing valuable or a precursor.

As it stands now duplicate portal drops are actually a good thing for everyone not in the beta yet. Why? Because that portal drop could have gone to someone without a beta spot yet that is not you! This way, even though you did not get a portal (and thus beta spot) neither did some one else.

Once enough beta slot have been filled up, they will close/end the system.

So here’s my hint, every time you seen someone with 2,3 or 5 portals just think:“Cool, this guys portals could have cost me x amount of still open beta spots”.

And yet he might not even have a single one, wouldn’t be surprised if majority of public linked portals are just chat codes copied from websites

How will conditions be MORE useful with the advent of condi immunity as a boon? It really seems to me like they want to kill condi roamers altogether.

resistance boon gonna be likely limited in application compared to the condis you will be able to throw up, is basically protection just against condi instead of direct dmg.

On the flip size you wont be screwed over by having other condi users apply same condi type as you on the same target due to the condi caps (which while bar with bleeding already with the 25cap, was even worse than burning since it only stacked duration, not intensity…

It isn’t a reward for Beta, what has happened is that collectors edition accounts got flagged as ‘beta accounts’ by Arenanets system, and when it came time to turn off their Beta access, they discovered the previous version of their account type was no longer something Anet could flag kitten they became heroic edition owners instead.

while it not technically was not meant to be a reward for being randomly selected for the beta, it ends up being a reward for it anyway, since only those that played the beta get the chest, the rest dont

The forum that hyperbolizes together stays together.

It’s actually true. There are at least hundred hyenas on the map. Do you disagree?

And you only have two dodges for the entire time you’re in the map?

Of course not, but you can’t expect me to dodge successfully each time. And naturally I will get annoyed if I wont’ manage to pull it off.

Condition removals

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

GummiBear.2756

Applying conditions is much more spammable than removing them. If you know how to play. If you unload everything you’ve got at your opponent before he burns his cleanses it’s your fault.

How can someone “burn” his cleanses when he rean remove a condition every 3 seconds?

“normal damage” is also spammable. Still damage mitigation and heal skills have way higher cooldowns then condi cleanses.

ehmm well you have toughness as a passive always on dmg mitigation so no cd there against power dmg, and most remove a condi every x second are every 10 not every 3 seconds, and most power dmg mitigation are about the same if not longer tham most condi removals

So it’s a great way to train your gaming skills and anet made a great design choice. They’re not deadly so you won’t loose your progress and in the same time you are learning how to dodge. It’s a win/win for me. Too bad you’re disappointed. Maybe run at shiverpeaks, I don’t remember meeting any hyenas there.

It’s a level 80 map. Everyone at this point knows how to dodge. Of course you can master timing these particular mobs but what’s the point if they’re just for ‘training’, right?
I like this map. I hate these mobs. See my problem?

Sounds to me you dont know well enough to dodge, cause they are freaking easy to dodge (or avoid getting in aggro range of in the first place)

Hyenas

yeah dodge it, and if you fail be sure you have some sort of condi removal, and well remove the cripple and continue on if you really really really cant be bothered to just plain out kill them, most classes with proper gear should be able to kill them in 2-3 skill uses or so

I know how to deal with it. I can’t always deal with it. Maybe I shouldn’t, but I feel like this particular skill isn’t needed on this map. It’s a big map, it doesn’t have too many waypoints, meaning you have to travel on foot. I wouldn’t imagine anything more cruel than including things that slow you down if you make a mistake of dodging too early or too late.
Apparently it’s just me having problem with it. It just feels like a zubat cave in Pokemon all over again to me.

Well i ahve absolutely no problems dealing with them all the few times it happen, and sound like im not alone, so sound to me you dont truely know how to deal with effectively. And sorry but SW and Dry Top are among the smallest maps in the world. if not smallest (not counting main cities ofc), yes the WP are few and far between but then open up the skritt caves if you want fast travel around SW

Personally I am thinking its either a bug or something to do with guilds in readiness for HoT.. but who really knows – ANET as ever don’t like to give out any kind of detail and prefer the…. “let em guess, conspire and blow bubbles out their ears”

Well if bug was the answer, they might not have noticed it yet, and cant really expect them to give info before they even become aware of it :P

QoL changes for HoT pls

That would be a huge QoL change just by implementing that for most players i would think.

The superior siege thing might be a little more time consuming to add for something that only a “few players” use but still….

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the other way around tbh, for adding recipes to crafts, they likely have some kind of template where they can just add in the final product and the ingredients and then a checkbox if it should be discoverable or need to find a recipe to unlock it, or something like that, where as a open all would be more or less a new mechanic to add

Actually we have no reason to NOT believe they loose anything. First of all we know for a fact they will only be able to use 2 of their core specs instead of all 3 if you go elite spec, that already there is a bit of a loss (albeat a minor one, but still a loss in some sense). On top of that unless things changed, they said at the intial HoT announcement at PAX, that specialisations (since been renamed to elite specialisations) will loose access to some utilities as well that the base class had)

'Burning' Condition - Additional Effect

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GummiBear.2756

GummiBear.2756

Warning: Speculation ahead.

Burning and poision will not stack like bleeding. they will stack once per player. The stacking is just to allow multiple players to have conditions on a target in dungeons and whatnot without losing DPS after the first guy uses them.

The point of burning was, and always will be, to have decent condition damage on a target without having to spec into condition damage.

Something like that is what i would expect too, as they would not need to do much to the current application of burning, where if they make it stackable by the same player they would need to rework EVERY SINGLE application method (and as pointed out by others, would make it bleeding v2)

Question about GW and HoM

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GummiBear.2756

GummiBear.2756

you can buy GW1 on Steam for €14.99 for each of the campaigns (factions, prophecies, nightfall) and the expansion (Eye of the North). As well as trilogy pack for €29.99 for all 3 campaigns (but EoTN is NOT included in that).

If you do not get any help however, and am completely new to the game, it will not be that easy, personally i got to 5pts myself (so all but head of the armor, and i rarely show head on any character anyway). 3 i got for linking the accounts so that one is easy enough :P, then 1 for M.O.X. which is a hero you get for owning the triology pack as bonus on top (other heroes need some armor upgrade thing before you can put it in the HoM, never actually got any bot MOX in there myself, MOX can be put in right away though), and then i got my 5th pt for getting a lvl 20 ranger pet. I believe you can also get another point for completing each of the campaigns stories, but somehow i never managed to finished got a little tired of my ranger towards the end so couldn’t really be bothered at the end.

So MOX+story complete+ranger pet lvl 20, i believe this to be one of the easiest for a completely new player, with help from veteran players though i am sure there are much faster ways i guess

Use G500S personally and tbh the amount of buttons on the 600 is way more than you would ever need for GW2 (g500s got 3 buttons on the left side, and 2 on the top along the left side as well (close to where you would hold you finger on the LMB as well) and then a tiltable mousewheel.
Im having heal and elite on the side buttons and then dodge i have to tilt my mousewheel to the right (ie move my left finger to press on the left side of the wheel), is all i need tbh
For the software (AFAIK all logitech products use the same software) at least for the G500s there is a lot more options for each profile (both in term of things like acceleration, different X and Y axis velocity(cant find the right word right now xD), but even more so in terms of mapping the buttons) and a lot more profiles possible as well when using the ones stored on the computer

[Feedback] [Mesmer] Broken Build

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: GummiBear.2756

GummiBear.2756

Just so you know i did used to play a build a bit similar to what you have, play a condi shatter ATM but still im not totally in the blank about your style of build, was pretty fun

hmm i dont see any “dueling master” trait, am I blind or do you mean something else?

Also as for the whole find the mesmer thing a shatter build is actually FAR superior there in pvp, due to that any half decent player will quickly see which mesmer is you, as long as you do anything but standing completely still and auto attacking, as that is basically what you clones does, use a chaos field, or a heal or anything that is not an auto attack or generate a clone and you are almost instantly recognized. In that aspect shatters are better since the constantly pump out new clones and each new clones is just a fraction or 2 of a second before the enemy player find the right one and as it happen all the time well there is a lot of time for enemy to try and identify you again and again.

The condi glamour loss is a bit unfortunate yes, but i can understand why they removed it, if you didn’t watch the actual stream, they reasons was that glamours are intended to be a skill type that support allies mostly so it was kinda of weird to have traits that then made it too beneficial to drop it on top of the enemies (that was THEIR explanation). Also another note you said 4 glamours, while you can under the current system only have 3 glamours on your bar, since TW is not actually a glamour, although it share a lot of similarities with that skill type, it currently dont have a skill type, though they are actually changing it so it will be classified as a glamour (there will be no skill without a skill type when this new system comes in place).

And yes i see the clone death trait, again they want to discourage “unhealthy” playing habits, and purposefully getting clones destroyed or overwriting them with new clones at max clones out was one more of those habits. But do keep in mind that those traits had a 240 radius anyway, and since staff clones are already themselves ranged, those would likely very rarely hit anything that was not melee themselves, traits like that worked better with swords clones that are melee themselves or maybe scepter that spawned in melee range of the target.

So yes you are loosing some things, but the core of the build is not totally out and i believe you can make a similar build that might actually end up gaining more than they are loosing

EDIT: If i were to try and recreate such a build myself i would probably do something like this:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQNAW7alknpMtNqxANUrRSpxYycOClllGpCokdUOA-TRyCwAAeSB4U/RxFV45GA6WfIlGGsK/0rbYsSwAAIAzcmJzyMw1l4En4EnYA-e (in the future try use that site for showing your build to others really good one, so we dont have to go and cross check the trait numbers with wiki and stuff) I really dont believe glamours traits add much to that kind of build, and with both staff cd and illusion summon cd traits, you get a whopping 6sec cd on phase retreat (note that ingame the tooltip dont reflect this properly taking both traits but the actual cd will still be 6sec even though it shows 8sec (unless they actually fixed that not sure). And with the new system you would easily be able to get the chaotic transferance, which would be quite a bit extra condi dmg if you use rabid gear(condi dmg/prec/toughness)). Heck I think back when i actually did this build i might have had 3 dueling and 5 chaos for that reason, unsure how important DE would be for that kind of build, but with new trait setup you could easily have both (and that counts for my currently used condi shatter as well where no DE is a disaster for obvious reasons :P)

Healer not a viable role in GW2?

GW2 uses a different “soft” trinity consisting of control/damage/support (instead of the traditional tank/damage/healer), and by soft it means that you are never and should never lock yourself into one role, and in any given situation one should at the very least provide some damage, and best to provide at least 1 of the 2 others roles (and is possible to provide all 3 roles too).

Control is well crowd control and stuff, like the line of warding(and guardian skill that prevents enemies from moving over it, and if they try they get knocked down), stuns, dazes, cripples and that sort of stuff.

Damage is well… damage, pretty self explanatory there :P

Support is NOT only healing, though healing is part of it, but it also boons (might, fury, quickness, regeneration, vigor etc, or other effects like thief that share venoms with allies(a special thief skill type that give extra effects to the next 3-4 attack usually (vary per venom used)), reflection i guess is under here as well (though can be argued to be a sort of control effect too.

and guardian is definitely a good character if you want to be able to supply some good support

Mind explaining what you are loosing exactly? for me it sound more like something like that might become better in fact, the extra bounce you get as baseline, and the stuff you do loose is some of the glamour traits only from what i can see which it dont sound like you are building around it per say, and then you get a fair amount of extra traits you can take as you get 3 full lines

together with other shadowsteps and some swiftness allows to to be by FAR the fastest class to get around

dont exaggerate
Warrior can basically be just as fast on the long run
(only if there are hills where the warrior would have to run around while the thief can port up thief is clearly faster)
but apart from warrior i dont think there is a class that can keep up with thief
and thief has ofc better in combat mobility than warrior

but yes infiltrators arrow gives you the possibility to be faster/skip walking around stuff etc

if you really build for and execute it right a thief will outrun warrior too, though yes it require a bit of effort and specific build for it, warrior mainly is becasue of easy 100% uptime of swiftness as well as GS leap but that is about it. though can while a bit harder get very close to the 100% swiftness as well and on top of that got IA, Withdraw, “Shadow step” skill, roll for initiative, as well as using steal on critters preferably (to not put yourself in combat doing it). And if that is all executed perfectly any warrior will have trouble keeping up. Dont need hills and walls for that

well tbh i think you can get pretty darn close to 100% vigor uptime with that line, if you play skillfully, and add the 20% increased effectiveness of vigor as well i doubt it will be a huge problem, if you play good

3 Lines?

yes you get to choose 3 lines to fill completely but you cant get traits in more than 3 either (so not 4 or 5 line builds anymore) (so it was said in the ready up about specs this week)

The Cure For Gold Seller Messaging?

for this to be even mildly efficient it would have to at least be on per default, or not toggleable at all, at which point it would be a MAJOR inconvenience for legitimate players (to the point that a good deal would stop playing the game altogether), for what would be a minor obstacle for the goldseller)

I didn’t see a single non-thinking post like the one you mentioned. People saying it’s RNG isn’t saying or acting how you are depicting it. However RNG loot is the correct term, language does matter, and the term RNG loot is the correct language and usage for this type of loot system.

A system which is primarily determined by random number generation is a RNG loot system.

Half the posts on here are “RNG IS RNG.” Non-thinking, mystical, hand-waving.

RNG loot may be the term in common parlance. It’s a bad term, doesn’t convey the whole picture, and the loot in this game is weighted based on tables, not primarily based on a RNG.

Well on that logic every single one of your posts pretty much is “RNG in this game is wrong”
