Set a man on fire, and he’ll be warm the rest of his life.

Must be used with the number keys on your keyboard. Press and hold the number for your skill, then release the key when your mouse pointer is where you with to activate the skill. Does not work with mouse-clicking the skill icon.
I have had my broom since last Halloween. With this Halloween update, my broom “jet” sounds begin to fade away after 10-20 seconds, and are all but gone within a minute. I know it’s not part of a new super-secret stealth technology, because I do not fade away visually.

A search could be helpful. MORE helpful to me would be if the game remembered that I prefer to arrange my dyes by HUE. Every once in awhile I will occasionally arrange by Material. But I NEVER arrange by “Set”. How is “Set” helpful? It means nothing, and yet for some reason the game always defaults to that.
Personally, I hate banners and conjured weapons. I am constantly picking them up by accident while trying to grab treasure or revive someone or whatnot. I want to scream at somebody when I discover my skills have changed. I don’t have time during a fight to study 5 new skills and be able to figure out what I can do that will be any help. I am far more effective with my own well-known skills.
I don’t suppose there’s a fast way to drop an item? Mouse-clicking can be hard in combat, since the pointer gets lost easily. I don’t see anything in Options>Controls.
In the meantime, keep those blasted banners and conjured weapons away from me!
Addressing the OP’s topic How to make people want to do Tequatl: They do want to. They desperately want to. But my server is mostly “casual” players, and despite playing Phild’s “social game” until I am blue in the face, I have never gotten close to drumming up 80 people, much less organizing them. If it could be done with fewer, we might stand a chance. And if we stood a chance, more people would show up.
Dragons have scales. Why doesn’t Tequatl scale? Don’t start at 80 people minimum to win. Give it a range from 30 on up, and scale her power accordingly.
And think of something better than a stupid time limit! WHY should Tequatl leave after 15 minutes? What has she accomplished to make it a “win” for her? If she leaves before she’s dead, that should be a victory for us. We chased her away!
I LOVE the new Tequatl. But mine is one of the many servers that gave up early. Out of curiosity, I visited the old girl again just now.
Zero people. ZERO!
Please, ANet… do something. ANYTHING. There’ve been plenty of suggestions made. Please just try something and announce a change. Simply telling people you’ve done something different will get them to come back to try again.
I agree the bloody timer is at the heart of our woes right now, not the reward. And the fact that she has very little leeway in the number of people required to take her down. (What ever happened to scaling?)
Many servers have never gotten far enough to get a reward, so excuse me, OP, if I say “Thpppt! Poor thing!” Be glad you are on one of the few servers that still fight her and even wins. I love the new mechanics, but can’t play Tequatl at all.
Do something, ANet. We don’t expect a perfect solution right away, but at least try. Then tweak as necessary. I really want to do this dragon fight and eventually succeed! It is so cool!
I suspect something to do with that funny carat over the first A. Or is that a perfectly good character in the alphabet where you are logged in from? It is on your keyboard? (I have no idea how / why some people do that otherwise). Are you able to duplicate the carat when you type your name to confirm deletion?
You’re certain? Having to sit through all that childish bickering is more painful than many a tough mission assignment. It should be worth something.
Are you two on the same server? (Dawnskull and Sundsten). It could be a server-specific problem, and then you wouldn’t need to give out any info you feel is confidential. With names beginning with DAWN and SUN, I just sorta figured there might be a connection…
They caught this big fella down on the Lion’s Arch docks in Borlis Pass. It seems he swam all the way from the Infinite Coil Reactor where they thrive.
Did not get a reward for “Meeting of the Minds” (the personal story step where Destiny’s Edge argues in LA). It went right on to my first Priory mission “Dredging up the Past”. 3 of us were hoping to get the Personal Story Completion achievement, and none of us did.
The biggest bug is that nobody shows up for her anymore. I love her new mechanics. I hate that she scared everyone on our server away within the first 3 days. Now we’re lucky if more than 5 people show up. Consider yourselves lucky that you play on a server that puts up an effort. Only once have I seen the stage that comes after the 75% mark.
Nothing here either (Borlis Pass). And since I’m not a dungeon person, that was all I was going to be able to do with the darned things.
We especially need this lately, as more and more accessories are getting bugged (pink Charr accessories and yellow Asura accessories).
My suggestion is to give us one color channel to use on hair accessories that is available whenever we do not have headgear equipped.
It’d also be nice to have a dye channel for our undies whenever shirt or pants are not equipped.
It can last a LONG time. I had the walking-in-water noises once when there was no water on my mini map. It appears to last until I step onto different terrain. (Leave the water, and slosh until I jump up on a rock or something.) Has been going on since about the time of the Twilight Assault update.
And while you’re at it, I reported a long while back that my mini Golems have lost most of their volume. My other minis seem okay, but I miss the clanking and whistling they make.
Please fix the sound issues! We need a whole 2-week Living World event called “BUG FIXES OF TYRIA”.
Borlis Pass. Yeah, that’s the banter.
A “Legendary” should be obtained through legendary deeds. We need a whole new crop of weapons for this category. Good looking weapons; not these often goofy-looking, particle effect affected, nasty puddle-footprint leaving jokes we have now. We need serious looking weapons and not light shows, disco balls and beer mugs. The current “Legendaries” that require legendary feats of farming and grinding should not be changed to “Expensive”. They should be called “Ludicrous”, as they are on so many levels from looks to cost.
New item idea: the Personal Waypoint Monitor.
You can create a personal waypoint by using ALT + clicking on the map.
The PWP Monitor would be an expendable item that turns your mini-map into a view from your Personal Waypoint. When your pointer is over your mini map, you can rotate and zoom in and out with your mouse just as if your character was standing there. There is an X in the upper right corner of the monitor to close it and restore your mini-map. You remain in “monitor mode” until you choose to close it. There is a long cooldown after shutting off your PWP Monitor until you can activate another. (Say, 30 minutes?). It would NOT be functional in WvW for obvious “spying” reasons.
Intended purposes: Monitoring to see when your favorite event is beginning. (Who missed the “watch the fireworks” achievement during Dragon Bash?) Watching a dungeon entrance to see if people are hanging around looking interested. See when things are starting to get lively at that Guild party you said you’d attend. Remotely view a friend’s location when they ask if you know how to get up to the Vista they are at. Etc.
The long cooldown is to prevent misuse by people who want to peek around every corner and avoid the monster lurking there.
Yes, there are alternate ways of doing most of this stuff. You can use internet timers to more-or-less tell when the bigger world events start. You can monitor MAP chat and occasionally ask if something has started yet. You can use the new LFG tool as well. I just thought this would be a kinda cool toy that could give you quicker, more immediate info in many cases.
While waiting in the Queensdale Hunting Lodge to be able to activate the Champion Boar hunt, the NPCs no longer go about their usual banter. It is dead quiet in the Lodge.
GW2 was designed around mobility. We’ve been taught that standing in one place is going to get you killed. Learn to dodge and kite and maneuver. You certainly have to do these things in the Tequatl fight with as much stuff going on around you as there is.
What bugs me is that to actually WIN, the strategy seems to be for the attacking group to stand in one spot and spam the appropriate skills, whether it be shielding the party or DPSing the dragon. Ho-hum. That is what the time limit forces on us.
(Yes, I can defend the turrets I suppose. But I like getting my whacks in on the ol’ girl too!)
Yeah, that’d be cool with dungeons too when you can’t get a full group of 5 together. Maybe that will be their solution. It DOES scale a LITTLE bit. The Fingers are much easier to dispatch when there are only 6 players in the fight.
The loot (I hear) is abysmal for winning. And of course you get nothing for losing. But by George, I think it’s fun! I’m probably in the minority. I would go back if I had a chance to win, even if the treasure is rotten. But I have a hunch that to make people visit Tequatl again, they not only will have to make it winnable by casual groups but also increase the reward to make it worth the time involved.
I understand that the “elite” players need their challenges, but they removed a whole section of the map from casual play to create their new monster. And many servers can’t scrape up 80 elite players to make the attempt. So the region sits empty.
i agree
also this place is a harbor so it needs more drunks and some exotic animals walking the street, maybe even different languages speaking
Check out Hoelbrak if you want to see drunks that are also exotic animals walking the street
Lag can be an issue. If you aren’t picking stuff up, try opening the TP away from large crowds of people whenever possible. The best fix most of the time is to restart your game. If you still have a problem, sometimes it really is down and you just have to wait. They’ll get it up and running A.S.A.P. since the Gem Store is money in their pockets.
For a couple weeks now, I often continue to make “sloshing” sounds (as if I am in low water / swampy terrain) for a prolonged period of time after leaving the water. It is very disturbing to hear the same splashing footstep noises on all sorts of inappropriate terrain. And I do NOT own a Legendary weapon, so those ugly footstep special effects are not to blame.
Actually, that’s not very effective. I have posted that in MAP chat many times. Screamed that Tequatl is up (complete with Waypoint). Tried organizing. Tried prevailing to the Commanders who bother to show up. Our server is pretty casual, and you could see signs by the second day that people were just giving up. Even bringing back a visual and audible cue will be no help, as it didn’t help while we had it in the first place. The event needs to take a new direction of some kind that gives casual groups a reason to believe they can succeed again. Otherwise it will remain an anti-black hole on our map, pushing everyone away.

The next dragon “upgrade” might go down this way:
Perhaps it was programmed by Barry Kripke? (The Big Bang Theory)
Droknar’s Forge was one of the biggest destination spots in GW1; your first shot at max-level armor! Everybody who played the game knew the name. Now it is gone… flooded by the rise of Zhaitan. Just a memory occasionally visited.
And every time I visit, I am reminded that the people in charge of this part of the game never played GW1. Everyplace I look I see “Droknah’s Forge”. It’s as if Elmer Fudd was in charge of spell-checking. At the risk of having my post censored, Let’s get the H out of here!
PLEASE! I have reported this as far back as a year ago, and nothing has been done. It’s not a huge issue, but isn’t is a super-easy issue to fix?
I have a Witches Broom that my Mesmer flies all around the countryside. I am very happy with that as-is. Nobody complains. Nobody is at any advantage or disadvantage.
I have an Engineer who tunnels all over the world with his Sonic Tunneling Tool. I am very happy with that as-is. Nobody complains. Nobody is at any advantage or disadvantage.
There is no reason – zero, zilch, none whatsoever – to oppose mounts created in the fashion of the Broom and the Tunneling Tool.
The OP never asked for more speed. He never said he wants to fight on a mount. From the sheer numbers of posts, it’s obvious that people just think riding mounts would be cool. If instituted like the Broom and Tunneling Tool, mounts are perfectly acceptable.
My suggestion:
When headgear is not equipped, you should have a single dye channel for coloring hair accessories using any dye that character has unlocked. (Characters without hair accessories would still have this; it just wouldn’t do anything unless they buy a new hairstyle that includes hair accessories.)
The same should go for undies. Whenever your shirt and pants are unequipped, you should have a single dye channel to color your unmentionables.
There are times I don’t even remember which Order a particular character joined. I have to see if the Order Armorer will give me the time of day or not. Some mention in the Hero Panel might be nice (where it has a symbol for your Profession and your personality). Maybe give us an “/order” emote that lets us perform a special salute .
The point being, that yeah… if I don’t even remember what Order I belong to, they aren’t getting enough attention.

Sure, if you remove the timer any server can succeed at the fight. However, that also means its pretty much impossible to lose the fight because of zerg rushing. I for one don’t want players to feel like they’re entitled to winning every fight they come across just because they complained it was too hard. Honestly, I’d rather lose a few times than win something with no effort and no chance of losing. Thats the difference between the two versions.
I am not complaining that the fight is too hard. I love it just the way it is, but I am in the minority. And this fight is not possible with a minority of players.
No effort? It will still be hard, even without the timer. It is hardly “no effort”. Tequatl’s pretty good about breaking up zergs; she always leaves the field littered with dead and dying players. But that is far preferable to having the entire ZONE being dead like it is now. THAT is what ArenaNet needs to address.
No chance of losing? We are not losing “a few times”. We have never won, much less come close. My server has a dozen people showing up for Tequatl if we’re lucky, and even fewer now that it’s not a Daily Achievement. Other players on successful servers have never won due to inability to get out of overflow.
Redenaz suggests keeping the timer, but extending the limit. That is great with me. But they need to do something to bring people back to the Tequatl fight on the dead servers. That isn’t going to happen until folks believe they at least have a chance.
(edited by Hamfast.8719)
From what I’ve seen of the successful Tequatl fights, that is not the way I want to play anyway. The attacking unit stands packed into one small area, so the characters with defensive shields can keep everyone protected. The rest of the group spams damage. Downed characters are revived quickly and dead respawn at a waypoint. Etcetera, etcetera. Success currently means choreographed, repetitive jobs that are no better than the earlier Tequatl fights, where people took her down by spamming skill #1 throughout the battle.
My server did break the 75% barrier once with no coordination. And it is more fun like that for me anyway, with damage coming at you from all sides and freedom to run all around the battlefield.
So my choice seems to be have fun and lose, or return to spam tactics if I want a chance at winning. Removing the 15 minute deadline would allow me to have fun and have a chance to prevail.
The two week Tequatl experiment is over. Some servers were able to defeat her. Some were not. On the successful servers, many people STILL have not had the opportunity to participate in a victory because of overflow issues. The unsuccessful servers rapidly became ghost towns, and remain so today.
There is a simple solution from GW1. In the original Guild Wars (after Prophecies) you were “graded” on how successful you were on any particular mission. To get certain titles, you needed to complete missions at the highest level of success.
Every server could take down Tequatl if they had all the time in the world. So kill the 15 minute countdown timer. Then base the time until she returns on how quickly she was defeated. (I.E. the faster you kill her, the less time between appearances). The servers that can kill her fast will have more opportunities throughout the day to do it again, and consequently more chances for a special dragon drop. The servers that need more time will finally be able to kill her, and might improve once people start coming back and believing their world can do it. This will reduce guesting and give people a chance to get out of overflow.
So the game will “grade” your performance. The better you do, the sooner you will be able to do it again.
While you’re at it, in all the zones with a World Boss event, you should provide a “Possible spawn time” clock in the upper right. ("The Maw is quiet. 35 minutes until actions can be taken that may cause evil to spawn again.)
Tequatl was my favorite dragon. She’s even more fun now, but my server is one of the ghost towns. Please do something to bring players back. Great content on many servers is now effectively a great black hole.
Same here. I just thought I’d chime in because the more people who say the exact same thing, the faster things get accomplished. Right? Right? Right?
While you’re at it… how come every other day seems to be Crab Toss? And Keg Brawl seems to happen only rarely? Is it totally random? Couldn’t you go on a rotation so they all get equal time? (I hate Crab Toss!)
Saw a guy in LA who made that moustache work… looked like a classic villain. Name: Snidely Whiplash.
Meet my Engineer, crusty old Professor Knowitall (He’s the one on the left). Resistance is futile!
Pact Soldier #1: There’s a spy amongst us.
Pact Soldier #2: It’s that Sylvari! He’s a plant!
I agree completely with everything the OP said.
I watched the video of the first win. It was organized, yes. But it was also people clustered in one spot, spamming whatever skill they were designated to use for protection of the group or damaging Tequatl.
Not fun.
My server never organized, and so we have never come close to winning. This means lots of people scattered all over the place, but we are moving around using all our skills just to stay alive long enough to get within range of Tequatl. And you know what? It’s fun as heck! I love this battle, with all the variety of ways you can be attacked and from every direction!
We could win, too, if there were no time limit.
My suggestion to ANet: take out the time limit, and base the time between Tequatl appearances upon how quickly the server kills her. On servers where they kill her in less than 15 minutes, have her come back more often. Those folks will be rewarded for their ability to organize. On servers where it takes an hour to drop her, make her come back less often. But at least give everyone a chance, casuals and elites alike.
When I saw your subject I was thinking “Tequatl HAS a timer! If we don’t finish her off in 15 minutes, we lose!” But I see what you mean, and I agree. A timer, or a regular time (15 minutes past the hour, every hour, or something like that) would be helpful and stress relieving. It would be nice to be able to organize and be ready.
As far as the existing time limit, I wish they’d get rid of that. Then the lower population servers and the casual player servers would have a chance. Might take an hour, but it is a fun fight with all the different forms of damage coming at you from all different directions.
Think about it. The servers that are beating Tequatl are being guested by people from servers that aren’t beating her. (I think of Tequatl as “her” for some reason). So the situation is getting worse; more overflow on the winning servers, ghost towns on the losing servers. Only the lucky few get a shot.
I am calling for people on the WINNING servers to do some guesting to the lower population servers, where we don’t have the necessary attendance. Here on Borlis Pass, I have only been forced into overflow ONCE, and that was way back on day one or two. It went downhill rapidly, and I have been part of several 6-man Keystone Kops efforts since then.
I’m hoping to attract people / commanders who have succeeded already, not people disgusted with overflow. We not only need an influx of population, but we need an infusion of spirit that would come from hearing our server’s name amongst those that have won. So commanders, please share your expertise with the less fortunate servers. Once we have won, I hope the apathy will dissipate and we will be able to claim some victories of our own.
I do not want to be stuck in overflow myself either. So all you other servers who need help, speak up! (And don’t use initials if you really want to get assistance. If I had said “BP” instead of Borlis Pass, many people would scratch their heads in confusion, and many of those wouldn’t take the time to look up the list of other servers to figure it out.)
I wish I took notice. I don’t do Fractals, so am not familiar with Agony. I was just passing through the area and normally ignore casual attacks by monsters. All I remember is catching the word “agony” amongst the damage numbers rising from me. I moved my pointer down to the condition icon just before it ended and caught something in the tool tip about taking damage whenever I move. So I guess that makes it TORMENT as Khisanth suggests, according to the WIKI description. But it DID still say “Agony” amongst the damage numbers. Does Torment do that? I can’t remember being hit with Torment before either.
All I know is I was swimming away from the area and my health was going down. The text accompanying the damage indicators on screen said (Agony). That’s when I looked it up on WIKI to make sure nothing had changed.
The other day I finished up the Covington Pirate chain of events in Bloodtide Coast. (Did everything fine, but failed against final boss due to the new time limit. Not even close, and we had plenty of people. That timer could use some adjusting). Anyway, as I was leaving the area, a pirate hit me up with AGONY.
According to WIKI, Agony is supposed to be a Fractals-only thing. Did that change? Is the WIKI article outdated? Or is there a game bug? (Game bug, please! The last thing I need is ANOTHER variable forcing me to change all my characters’ armors yet again).
At the end of the Asura personal story “A Meeting of the Minds”, my character is beginning her journey with the Durmand Priory. Zojja is supposed to say “Once you’re settled in at the Durmand Priory, I may call on you again.” (The in-game text is correct). The voiceover incorrectly says “Once you’re settled in at the Vigil, I may call on you again.”
I revisted my Home in the Salma District of Divinity’s Reach, and decided to pay a visit to my old childhood friend Josir. He has been studying with the Durmand Priory, where an unfortunate accident with a poorly stored Mesmer potion turned him into a Siamese Twin. (Which is really strange, since there is no place in Tyria named “Siam”.)
If you’re in the neighborhood, please stop in and console him. He’s really not himself anymore these days. It’s not that he’s lonely. There’s always somebody to talk to. It’s just that he has a harder time finding armor to fit than a Charr.
(edited by Hamfast.8719)
It’s not just Charr. I reported a change to my Female Asura’s hair ribbon 3 days before this thread began. It was originally dark purple with pink trim. I dyed my armor to be a perfect match. Now the ribbon is darker purple, and the trim is yellow. I checked it out on a Total Makeover Kit and ALL the ribbons for my hair style are now trimmed in yellow. Oop! Ack! Thpppt!
This could (mostly) be fixed if you would just let us dye the accessories.
I suggest that if you remove your head armor, you have one or two dye channels that can be used to color your hair accessories.
Furthermore, if you remove your coat or leggings, you should likewise have one or two dye channels that can be used to color your undies.
Bad text in Kessex Hills dialogue. See screen capture.
(Didn’t there used to be a section devoted to dialogue/spelling? Couldn’t find it…)
My assumption was that the name derived from a combination of the Aztech city-state Tenochtitlan and the Meso-American deity Quetzalcoatl, making the correct pronunciation “Tay – kwa – tul”.
HOWEVER, as a proper name, the rule is that both spelling and pronunciation are dictated by the bearer of that name, and deemed correct, no matter how odd it may seem.
Given that premise, I have it on good authority that Tequatl himself (herself?) pronounces it “Rrrrrrrrrroooooaaaaaaarrrrr!!!!”
