Oh wait you do with the $75 game you also get a character slot, you don’t with the gemstore deluxe upgrade.
There are two deluxe upgrades, one for the original game and one for HoT. The HoT one has a character slot and you can only see it in the store if you own HoT. Those without HoT are greeted with the “Buy HoT” message whenever they open the store.
They said they were working on a native Mac client. If they’re doing that, then they’ll have to update their engine, which would also be a good opportunity to update the DX side. It’ll likely take another year at the least however, probably with the next expansion. Simply changing it won’t be a magical fix however.
They should have added a small indicator like GW1 when they originally implemented it. ArenaNet’s so slow when it comes to the UI however, that I wouldn’t count on ever seeing this.
A ping on you UI will only tell you what you already know
It would be useful, since you could adjust accordingly. Fall gliding for example can be deadly when a zerg is causing the zone to lag. It’s happened a few time to me in BF, where I’ll pull out the glider for a second and land, resulting in death.
The zones will likely end up being standalone. Basically, think of them as a part of the episode. You likely won’t be required to go back there in future releases, but if you are, there will certainly be another way to access it.
When they switched to the expansion model, they should have changed how the episodes were unlocked. There shouldn’t have been an unlock period, but rather season 3 should have simply been available to HoT owners. Once the next expansion launches, then they could sell it separately. As is, it’s just a incentive to login once every few months, which likely helps with padding their login numbers.
Some of the CDN servers are basically down (bad response), so in those cases, it’s not an ISP issue, but rather a problem between cloudfront and ArenaNet.
Using a different asset server is required at this point, which some may do by simply flushing their DNS (ipconfig /flushdns). As an alternative to the IP listed above, you can try: Gw2.exe -assetsrv 52.84.25.238
As an alternative to using the -assetsrv command, you can try changing your DNS instead, such as using Google. Follow their instructions, then finish up by running the command: ipconfig /flushdns
Did that work for you? I’m trying to run my Gw2Setup-64.exe this way (I uninstalled yesterday hoping the reinstall would fix the issue before I learned more about the problem) but it has the same connectivity error for me.
Simply rename Gw2Setup-64.exe to Gw2-64.exe, place it wherever you’d like to install it, then do Gw2-64.exe -assetsrv 174.35.56.164
How is it that this gold selling website is still up and running?
They can try to shut it down, but there’s no point, because they’ll just make a new one. The only way to fight them it to sell gold for less.
GW2 isn’t necessarily installed to program files. It’s wherever you chose to install it, unless you were never given the option to choose when installing (Gw2Setup.exe), in which case it could have installed to %temp% by default, which is risky and you should move if so.
Since you have a shortcut, simply right click it and select open file location to find out where it actually is.
yes i know but now i cant even get the short cut after doing that everything disappeared an says cant be ran on this pc an when tried to open it from the program files says that the file is uninstalled an isnt on the computer any more an cant reinstall it to it cause it gives the same error as it did when it was on the computer
To uninstall GW2, you would have had to right click the shortcut and select uninstall or used the -uninstall option in a shortcut. Are you sure you know where GW2 was installed and are looking in the right folder?
If you’re sure you’re looking in the right folder, if Gw2.dat still exists there, you can simply download Gw2Setup.exe, rename it to Gw2.exe and place it in that folder along side Gw2.dat to recover. If Gw2.dat isn’t there, do the same, but it’ll need to patch the entire game. To use the assetsrv command, open the folder where Gw2.exe is and simply enter the following into the folder’s address bar: Gw2.exe -assetsrv 174.35.71.9
IF you include the scythe which is the reward for the collection. I don’t think that the scythe is needed to complete the collection.
The reward for completing the collection is an ascended staff. It being the scythe skin was just to hype it. An exotic/lesser version of the scythe will likely be a story/meta reward. Far more likely than the alternative.
One thing I (and probably others too) noticed is that it says collect all 20 weapons skins, which either hints for a new primordus themed skin coming or even a whole new weapon type.
In PvE they’re Primordus, but in PvP they’re Destroyer. There’s 20 skins in the Destroyer set.
Where’d you get the IP for the patch server?
Lookup the IP of assetcdn.101.ArenaNetworks.com using various DNS servers, or drwkwiejruot6.cloudfront.net. The IPs can change over time however, so don’t set it and forget it.
GW2 uses a CDN service to deliver patches, meaning there’s various patch servers around the world, and which one you’re assigned to is determined by your DNS. In this case, this specific patch server is down.
If it’s sticking on the download specifically, it’s probably failing to connect to your nearest asset server. You can manually try a different one using a command like this:
Gw2.exe -assetsrv drwkwiejruot6.cloudfront.net
… or you can try to bypass it entirely, if you’re up to date, using the command:
Gw2.exe -email example@email.com -password examplepwd -nopatchui
So basically, the event should have been padded out longer, like 6 days per location.
Shooting has a small cast time and where you’re aiming isn’t locked until the end of that cast. If you want to shoot and move, you need to keep aiming at your target. Personally, I use movement to more precisely aim. If you’re not an asura (lower camera height), try zooming in to first person (enabled under options), which I find easier.
The nearby enemies is the result of making the adventure more accessible. Completing the event chain to capture the camp will fix that, which used to be a requirement. Sometimes enemies will still spawn outside a little ways from the camp, but for the most part, you should be sticking within or very close to the camp’s barricade, the only exception being the 1 target that spawns behind the plant.
As for someone else shooting faster, the video could be sped up, speed mushrooms shorten cast times, a higher ping can cause higher cast times, or perhaps something, like a trait, is still applying.
to be fair you need laurels to craft your own ascended gear. recipes cost 5 per or guild commendations if your cool with waiting for rng.
… or use any recipe, then stat switch it using the mystic forge.
I don’t do event dailies on low level maps, either. The game play is a turn off, with players standing at mob spawn points spamming AoE to try to get credit on mobs that melt as soon as they appear/become vulnerable.
Personally, I’ve never had a problem, but I don’t follow the zerg, nor do I ever waypoint. I do know roughly where all the events occur though, so I just hover around an area with several chains, using completing them long before many others show up.
The contribution timer doesn’t apply to these maps, so feel free to tag and run.
The trading post is just a website, so it’s possible to mod it by running your own local server as a middleman, allowing you to implement a feature such as automated buying/selling. More likely however, they’re simply using the API to watch their orders, which they could then either be handling themselves (legit) or using macros to fully automate it.
If I type the link en.support.guildwars2.com into address bar it still blocks it.
en.support.guildwars2.com isn’t secure, it’s a redirect to help.guildwars2.com
I really hope you are joking …
In terms of solo content, GW2 is far more challenging than most MMOs, which balance their content around the lowest of the lows. WoW is absolute faceroll in that aspect. GW2 is basically the Dark Souls of MMOs in comparison when playing through HoT, but only on certain classes, like a elementalist, whereas others, like a necromancer, are trivial. Personally, I’ve never seen another MMO where regular enemies could casually kill you within seconds.
Either way, I believe it’s safe to say Guild Wars 2 focuses more on a casual audience.
GW2 was meant to be casual in the sense of time, where you could make meaningful progress in shorter amounts. GW2 was never meant to be casual however, in the sense that you can faceroll through the content like you can in nearly every other MMO. HoT is definitely not casual and before the nerfs to the core game to make it easier for “WoW” players (“those not accustomed to action combat”), GW2’s original beta was also tuned for dodge or die combat.
Pings are not important and can be throttled or entirely ignored depending on how the owner of the network has configured it. The pathping command estimates packet loss through another method, by relying on the response of failed packets, but it’s still only an estimation. In your first screenshot, it’s the in between lines with the | that show the estimated packet loss between the nodes.
Considering updates are every 2 weeks and there’s 5 locations according to the achievement, at this point, the earliest it may change is on Friday, at the daily reset to be simple. If not, there’s no point checking back until the weekly reset and if not then, it’s safe to assume it’ll only change with the 2 week updates.
Is it possible for an issue to be this particular with an ISP?
There are many paths you can take across the internet. Cut one of those paths, and you can access everything except what was on that path.
Open a command prompt and use tracert/pathping to determine where the connection drops (ie, tracert guildwars2.com).
You could setup a PayPal account, which will allow you to withdraw from your bank.
Locate Gw2.exe. In the same folder is Gw2.dat. If Gw2.dat is several GB at least, you can try repairing (Gw2.exe -repair).
Gw2Setup bugs on some systems, causing GW2 to be installed to %temp% by default, which is a temporary location and Windows may choose to clear at some point. If that wasn’t the case, you may want to check your disk for errors (right click the drive > properties > tools > error checking).
If the launcher has already overwritten Gw2.dat, there’s nothing you can do. You can limit the amount to download however by patching to the point where it becomes playable, then set the content streaming option to on demand (found under general options near the bottom).
The same way you can avoid any other projectiles. The path of a regular (non-homing) projectiles is calculated based on your predicted location. Rapidly move back and forth over an updraft. Normally you’d just strafe, but with gliding it’s easier to flip (about face).
HoT is always on sale somewhere. dlgamer.us for example has had is on sale for varying amount since pre-purchase, which is currently at 25% off.
Since the BLTC is just a web site, you can make it display whatever you want. You can also use the same technique to implement your own features into the trading post. Simply run a local web server and redirect one of the pages to it, which you can then configure to do whatever you want.
I can accept a compromise that would help fulfill my protector identity where I can offer up perma protection with a steady stream of heals. Now my big concern is why is my Gaurdian melting like butter in Bloodstone Fen while my Reaper for what ever reason seems immortal?
Necromancer is based on the idea of a life leeching (self sustaining) tank and is one of the easiest professions to play because of it. If you play wells, it basically does offer perma protection with a steady stream of heals (blood’s vampiric traits).
The guardian melting is likely due to your sense of playing a necromancer, which has a much larger health pool. A guardian has a low base health whereas a necromancer has a high base health, plus a secondary bar from shroud which also halves damage taken. With HoT, enemies have been balanced around having high damage but low health, so they can easily tear through the lower health professions, dealing 50%+ of your health in a single hit. As a ~12k elementalist for example, I can get 1 shot at the start of the last episode, when the group of veterans spawn. In comparison, to a high health profession like the necromancer, those deadly hits are a lot less, like 15%, which you’re going to casually regen back through various leeches.
If you wanted to play a you can’t kill me tank, but be practically useless in everything else, that’s a nomad’s full defense shield warrior.
P2W is when you get facerolled in PvP by the guys with legendaries, if legendaries had better stats.
But with the HoT mastery points that are locked behind the adventures, no one is able to help you. You MUST do them ALONE. No chance to get help from your fellow players. This is the worst thing ever in a MMO that is designed to play together with your fellow players.
You only need 1 point from adventures for max masteries. As season 3 continues, you’ll likely need 0.
If you’re trying to find the location of something and want to estimate the vertical distance, try to get close to the icon on the minimap, then the distance displayed basically is the vertical distance. Alternatively, you can get the exact distance using the API, or you can manually estimate it, in short, by measuring the pixels on the map.
As for what the units are, distance is measured in… inches.
A better graph would be to use total unique posters rather than total posts since people are using it to compare against player population.
Here’s unique posters (users) and total posts per day. (forum-en)

If they did add one, it would be an extremely low drop rate from black lion chests like the other endless gem store consumables. It’d likely be valued at over 5000g, and salvaging would quickly lose its profits.
20k posts. How many posters?
22414 posts and 3873 unique posters, excluding ArenaNet. For comparison, there are 180360 posters on these forums, 10450 of which have posted in the last 90 days.
GW2 is dependent on the CPU, so it’s the key component to increasing performance. Since GW2 is using DX9, it’s also limited by the performance of a single core, so a CPU with a high single thread performance is going to be better than an 8+ core CPU with a lower single thread performance but higher multi thread performance. Intel i7-4790K for example.
For the GPU, you’ll only see very minimal gains the better you go, but stick with NVidia. GTX 770+, 970+, 1070+, whatever. You’ll want to look at other games you play, or plan to in the future, to determine how powerful of a card you want.
For RAM, GW2 64bit can easily use 6 GB, so you’ll want 8 GB at an absolute minimum. If you want to have some fun, go with 64 GB and load GW2 entirely into memory using RAM Disk software. If not, you’ll want an SSD to put GW2 on, because a slow load speed can cause stuttering.
If you were looking to do a direct bank transfer, you’re going to need to use PayPal as a middleman, which will require setting up a PayPal account and confirming your identity.
CoherentUI_Host.exe is used to render the webpages in-game. It’s located in the bin or bin64 folder, whichever version you’re using. You will need to whitelist it in both AVG and ZoneAlarm. Sometimes disabling or uninstalling security software isn’t enough, as they can have lasting effects on the system.
Your ISP may also be a problem depending on what tricks they’re doing in the background. IPv6 has been a problem in the past. Besides dealing with your ISP, you could use a VPN.
I’m not sure if it’s still applicable, as it used to be a problem years ago, but open the internet options found under the control panel, select the connections tab and click LAN settings near the bottom. Uncheck automatically detect settings, or try checking it if it wasn’t, then OK out of it and open/restart GW2.
For the next few years at least, it is highly unlikely that legendary armor will make an appearance outside of raids. They’re using it as an carrot in place of gear with better stats like you’d find in other MMOs, so they really can’t put it anywhere else. The next expansion will give a better picture of how it’ll turn out. If there’s another raid, they’ll likely continue on that path, but if there isn’t, raiding had failed, which makes it far more likely to see the armor elsewhere. Either way, legendary armor will likely make an appearance somewhere else, but that’s like 5+ years away at least. The only place you could even hope to see it elsewhere in the meantime is by winning PvP tournaments, as they’ve awarded legendary weapons in the past.
If they removed the limit, they’d probably compensate by making it more expensive to craft. Since you originally had to commune them, they’d likely make it a crafting recipe requiring spirit shards in some form.
The limit does give it a value however. At a glance, it’s at least 1g.
Non Raiders blocked from XP bar spirit shards
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

The ability to gain spirit shards for leveling is enabled once all of the masteries for the given region are unlocked. You don’t get them in Bloodstone Fen because you’re lacking the HoT’s raid masteries.
ArenaNet is against doing certain things. Their original team split off from WoW, which is why they’ll likely never add mounts, though obviously profitable. If they wanted to add a “subscription” for example, they would do it differently by another name, such as their old loyalty program where those who bought gems within the last few months received a free gift.
The game basically does have a subscription however, but you pay it up front every ~2 years and only if you want to keep up to date with the game. The plan was to bundle all past expansions for free with the current one, but that was announced prior to the free client. Consider that if they simply give it away for free, and since they also gave away season 3 to everyone, you could effectively play the game ~2 years behind and get all the content for free. That was the original plan after all, where the living world was meant to take the place of expansions while the gem store was their main source of revenue, which it is; even surpassing HoT’s launch sales.
Try using a VPN, or alternatively (though not nearly as complete of a test), you can try switching the port GW2 uses with the command:
Gw2.exe -clientport 443
I once had my ISP do something similar in another MMO, where I’d begin lagging and disconnect when entering PvP. In short, they were detecting it as torrent traffic and throttling my connection.
Free accounts started on August 29, 2015.
Create an account through https://account.arena.net/register?alt=gw2, where you’re not asked for a serial. This creates the core (free) account. Once registered, you can then apply a code to the account. If the codes still don’t work, you could just play the free account in the meantime, which if you play through PvE as expected, you really won’t notice the restrictions.
If all 3 codes don’t work, and they were purchased through buy.guildwars2.com, and assuming you’re entering them correctly, chances are you were either refunded at some point, or someone else had access to them, either by gaining access to your email or wherever else you stored them. Support will be able to tell you the status of the keys.
When the next expansion comes out, will there be enough people in Dragon Stand to even do the meta-event against the Mouth of Mordremoth? What about the Chak Gerants in Tangled Depths? Or even the Matriarch in Verdant Brink (to say nothing of the map-wide meta-event there)?
With the next expansion, HoT will be bundled for free. HoT will also likely be added to the free client, either then or with the 3rd expansion. At that point, HoT will be more active than it was at launch, considering HoT didn’t sell very well at the time. After that however, then yes, HoT will die out, but you don’t need massive zergs, you only need 3-5 people per objective, so like ~20 people for a successful meta. The catch however is that with less people, you have to actually try, compared to a half AFK zerg casually winning.
I think they may also nerf old content. I went out to the Silverwastes a few days ago (I haven’t done it since months prior to HoT) and the lanes were up, so I figured I’d do it. Boss 2 had just failed, and most siege carriers were lost, so I went to lane 3 to find myself solo. I had no problem both defending the lane and doing the boss solo. Unfortunately, the next lane failed their boss, which if I was only there earlier, I would have easily solo’d it too. I’ve done the breaches solo in the past back when it first released, but now they’re just trivial, which makes it even more hilarious when groups fail.
If you happen to have screenshots from GW1, check them.
If you know the schedule, you simply need to show up on time, much like world bosses. At the start of their cycle, they’re going to spawn within a few minutes (~20 kills), and take a few minutes to kill. Personally, I just did them all and had no problem showing up every hour, killing 2 at a time. Dulfy’s schedule was not so accurate however, as there was an inactive period prior to the wyvern.
Remember that notorious manifesto from back in the day? One of the things stated was Anet’s desire to eliminate “waiting to have fun”.
Back in the day, world bosses spawned randomly, their respawn had a delay of up to 3 hours and was specific to the map instance. I remember zergs of people standing around for hours.
when you kill enough moas (I needed a dulfy guide to find this out, this is not mentioned anywhere in game).
They should just spawn, as it’d make more sense, unless they’re saying that you are infecting the creatures, which considering your bloodstone affinity…
The events are actually much easier with less, than with 10+. It’s also possible to solo them, though some are much harder than others. 3 should be enough, assuming 80s. Personally, I’ve done some solo, but it’s much easier with just 1 other person, from the perspective of a zerker elementalist. The first time I went in solo, I figured it’d turn out badly when veterans started spawning, since I remember barely denting them when they were upscaled, but they melted just like any regular enemy.
GW2 doesn’t need to be installed in the traditional sense, so you can simply move the GW2 folder wherever you’d like. If the external drive is using a slower connection like USB 2.0 however, you’re going to see greatly increased load times and potential stuttering.
