The only problem I’ve had with the Pyro Jade is that occasionally not enough rocks spawn to take out its shield, but that’s never actually been a problem. The fight it very easy to control, so I always jump in solo and do it with whoever shows up. I can’t recall ever doing it with less than 5, but there’s always 5+ minutes left with smaller numbers. I just did it with 7 people for example with ~7 minutes left. As a zerker ele, I almost always end up tanking it in melee, which makes it far easier to deal with. The trick with jade bows, which the pyro is based on, is that they aggro on the top damage dealer.
New weapons or an elite spec is the same thing. If they were going to add a new weapon type, it’s going to a part of an elite spec, which are easier to balance due to their limitation and only available to 80s. That was kind of the point of elite specs, to make it easier to add new abilities. The trick with elite specs though is that they can reuse the same weapons over and over, including overwriting the core weapons. Because of that, and since new weapons means more work when creating sets, there may never be new weapon types. They did however want weapons to identify the profession, which greatly limits their options.
I’m just curious here, if someone likes exploring maps for the sake of exploring them, then maps with huge complexity will be much better than plain/flat ones no?
Yes, HoT maps were designed for true explorers. For those that follow the rewards however, if they find that they are incapable of completing a single objective, there is no longer a reason to bother with any of it.
People throw around words like platforming
Some people are very slow to act, are keyboard turners and have a hard time doing multiple actions at once. The simple act of jumping can be an obstacle, so they see the HoT maps as such.
Show up like 5 minutes late to the maw and you’ll likely get a new map.
The event is a part of the ice sculpture chain, so it won’t reset if the other parts are active. The problem is, Ulfred can bug at the end where he asks for ice, causing the chain to block.
For expansion reviews, you can assume that anyone pushing a referral link is more likely to put a positive spin on things, since they get a 10% cut if you buy it through them.
Rename Gw2Setup.exe to Gw2.exe, place it wherever you’d like to install the game, then run it.
Any of the Jades. They’re such boring fights.
Pyro Jade is the best. As a soloist, allowing 1 person to carry the team is my favorite kind of design. It aggros on the top damage and by being in melee, that person can make it easier on everyone else. Because you have to be #1 however, it can also reveal a sad truth. If only all bosses had scoreboards at the end to encourage competition and were actually factored into contribution instead of 1 hit tagging.
Maybe it’s because I look at a timer site, know when it’s coming up, get into a group before it starts and wait, maybe 5-10 minutes for the start.
The average player likely doesn’t follow timers, nor do they use LFG. For MMOs in general, most people just want to login and play, which is why most play solo, and they don’t usually take it outside of the game, like reading the forums.
Taxi’ing is the problem and something needs to be done about it. If nobody did it, every map should fill up to around 70% before a new one is created. When people taxi out, they’re killing their map, which overall, guarantees that a majority of the maps die out in favor of filling only a few of them. That 1 full map could easily split into 3-5 maps, likewise, the 5 dead maps could join into 1. People love their overpopulated maps however, which are generally more rewarding and support the AFK playstyle. In the end, there is always going to be that one last underpopulated map, which could be solved in various ways, such as balancing for smaller numbers or volunteering in reverse to split full ones. At this point, they should just take the easy road and implement districts, but they’re probably afraid of it revealing the active population.
They need to drop the initial event, which is like the hardest event in the game. It only guarantees that low population maps will never get started. Personally, if it wasn’t for that, I could have likely pushed one of the chains solo and gained attention along the way.
The design of the map was likely an experiment, which they should have taken further. Larger events should be separated from the map and something you specifically queue for. It guarantees that everyone has the same goal and these events can be tuned for exact numbers, say 20 people, but playing at the intended difficulty may prove too much for the average zerger.
If anet is going to turn around and do something with it, there gonna be problems where everyone saves every trophy they get.
Trophies don’t do anything, but that doesn’t mean they’re useless fodder. Trophies are used in collections, the mystic forge and other things. It could end up being nothing, but that’s not a guarantee.
For me, that just shows a page that says something about ‘redirect’.
It’s the background data from the account page, so you need to be logged in.
Even with Orr cleansed, it’d probably take over 100 years to clean out the Risen population and for nature to return. In the meantime, the most they’d do is add some plant life, doing minor updates like they used to do during season 1.
GW2 has a live story. It doesn’t matter what you’ve personally played through, you were the commander and Zhaitan is considered dead. Playing through the personal story now is reliving past events. Any updates would be for everyone; that’s something they specifically wanted with the living world concept. A fully cleansed map would be rather void however, so they’d have to do something like replacing everything Risen with the ghosts of Orr, likely turning the zone into a reenactment of the Charr invasion. It would essentially be the exact same, just with ghosts and some dialogue.
To the airship theory: are there any working airships they could’ve used?
You can assume there are many in the world than the ones used in the attack, plus more have likely been produced in the year following the initial assault. Working under Phlunt, thus having the backings of the Arcane Council, you can assume the forward party had a lot to work with. They could have also arrived by ship, which was how Southsun was set up, or they could have used something more asuran, like the various unstable teleporters that have been shown off in the story. It doesn’t really matter how.
No amount of critical thinking could have brought me to the answer. Getting in between the beam doesn’t make sense because draining the energy makes you think of a one way flow between two points. But going in between means the bloodstone is charging the shield at the same rate as you drain the shield so the net effect is nothing.
Read the tooltips. “Beam drains energy from everything caught in it and causes slower actions.” Counter magic is to reverse the effect, which is also shown by the beam itself, where you’re now draining energy from everything caught in it and your actions are faster.
If you just listened to the dialogue, “catch the shields in…” was also pretty obvious considering the beam was the only mechanic.
You can see the last time you changed your password, which if you’ve never done, would be the day you registered.

I used to use skill points to keep track of how many times I leveled. I averaged ~2000 per year, having a little over 6k at the start of HoT. Looking now, I’m at a little over 8k, so you probably get more now on average compared to back then, more so considering I probably play about half as much.
There’s a rock pile next to the wall to the left of the door where the veteran is. The pile has two levels of rocks next to the wall. Pull the veteran to rock on the right. When it gets close to you and pauses to attack, press #1 to dash into the wall, which will evade the attack, then hop to the upper left rock, then back down to the right. This hop will cause the vet to path down, then back to you, where you can then easily repeat the process.
GW2 never had a depth of field option. There’s depth blur, which blurs distant objects. Perhaps you’re remember that when it was bugged and affected everything, which can still be seen in areas of Timberline.
Alternatively, maybe you’re remembering one of the graphics enhancers, such as reshade, gemfx or sweetfx.
GW2 uses DigitalRiver to process payments, which stopped supporting Greece a while back. I’m not sure what their current stance on it is, but if they still don’t support it, ArenaNet can’t.
You can use PayPal as a workaround, if it’s a paysafe MasterCard.
I rarely use the LFG, and I’ve never found The Silverwastes empty.
Personally, I only go there when the daily wants it and have seen the Vinewrath pop 3 times in the last few months. Each time I came in half way to fail, where lane 1 was stacked with ~5, lane 2 was half that and lane 3 has always been empty. I just end up soloing it, which feels rather nerfed compared to doing the same back in the day.
It’s too bad that events don’t show you how many are nearby. I can manage two bosses in the limit, so it’s sad to see a 4/5 breach fail.
Run Gw2.exe as an administrator or move your Guild Wars 2 folder somewhere else, like C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\. Program Files is a protected directory. Also ensure that C: has at least 100 MB free.
Any security software you’re running could also be causing it, so add the Guild Wars 2 folder as an exception.
You can also try deleting the bin folder in the Guild Wars 2, just to test for a rights conflict. It’s failing to write bin\CoherentUI_Host.exe.
Too bad you can’t just sell them.
How long till HoT goes on sale for like $15?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

HoT will be included in the next expansion, however.
Are you certain about that?
“In the future, if we release further Guild Wars 2 expansions, we plan to offer all of the prior expansions, the core game, and the latest expansion for one single purchase price.”
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/pre-purchase-community-address/
After that, they made the core game F2P however, which makes it easier to justify the bundled price. Considering HoT was designed for active maps, I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up doing the same. However, considering they gave away season 3 also, that would mean the game would be entirely free for those who played an expansion behind, so HoT probably won’t go F2P, at least not until the expansion after. It might not go F2P at all, but then it’d be as dead as the mid-tier zones, where then something as simple as map completion would require guild support due to the foolish mistake in making in group content.
Because of this model however, it’s safe to assume that the closer it gets, the less sales there will be. There could be a sale, but that would mean having to offer refunds, whereas if they keep it at $50, they can simply upgrade those purchases. If they can do it in a way where refunds don’t cost them however, that would likely be the better option, as they can get people to buy the sale who might not have otherwise purchased it at all.
It’s simply never going to happen. The season 1 rework will also likely never happen. What they should have done from the start was create it in a way where they could replay the events after a time. Instead of taking year long breaks like did both before and after HoT, they could have replayed the world events. But that’s long gone now.
The far more likely solution is to simply split the leaderboards. Have another one that only includes the achievements which are possible to obtain, but the top spot is going to be tied with thousands of others, eventually.
Lies. I just tried it on my Shadow Assassin outfit and nothing happened.
Some outfits have separate pieces, some don’t.
In a lot of cases like that (very low FPS when expecting much higher), it’s been because of the GPU being in the wrong slot. Use tools such as GPU-Z to confirm it’s running at the correct speed. It doesn’t affect other games much, but GW2 is really good at catching system problems.
If you have both an integrated and dedicated GPU, GW2 may be using the wrong one. It became more of a problem when they forced the 64-bit client, since it’s based on the filename.
If this is not a new installation, delete the %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ folder, and if it exists, Documents/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat. That’s where your local system settings are stored, where changes in the hardware/system can cause problems.
If you’re using a public network, they usually have certain ports blocked, or more advanced, they could be monitoring traffic, which will require a VPN. You can try using the -clientport option with either 80 or 443 like so:
Gw2.exe -clientport 80
Open your GW2 folder and look for a Gw2.tmp or Gw2.### file. If it’s around 25 MB, try renaming it to Gw2.exe, overwriting the old one. If you need to recover Gw2.exe, you can simply download Gw2Setup.exe and rename it.
You have something blocking GW2 from updating itself, which is likely security software. Try adding GW2’s folder as an exclusion to your security software. Alternatively, you can disable everything by booting into safe mode with networking enabled (WindowsKey+R > msconfig > boot.ini), though I’m not sure if XP can handle running the launcher like that. If it can’t, you can either try a selective startup with everything disabled, or you can try the services tab and disable all non-Microsoft services. Use msconfig to go back to the normal startup once you’re done.
Is there any MMO out right now with a solo friendly raid mode? I mean think about it. It’s supposed to be completed with a group of people not one or two players. Otherwise it’s not even a raid.
GW1 has 12 person elite areas, which you can solo with your team of NPCs.
WoW’s LFR is probably the most solo friendly actual raiding experience, which opened up raiding to the majority. As a solo player, you simply queue up and play. If you wipe, it gets easier.
If you’re using SMS, switch to using a desktop authenticator where you can quickly copy/paste the code. If you drop 2FA, it’ll just revert to email authentication, which is actually the more secure option for advanced users.
Since map completion isn’t required, I wouldn’t count on hero challenges being nerfed. If they were going to, they probably would have done so when they first nerfed them in VB. But have fun trying to complete them next expansion, assuming it doesn’t go F2P.
Personally, I play off hours and they’ve always been dead content, but so is everything else there. It actually seems more active now than back then, but all along I’ve seen people request help for hours. After doing them on my main, I chose to take the easy route and skipped map completion altogether on my alts.
You know that Anet previous game was a full team game, with almost no single player content ( except niche builds and farming spots ), having to redo a whole instance in case of team wipe.
GW1 was like 90% single player content at launch, 99% after they allowed for full hero teams, which opened up the elite areas.
The megaserver doesn’t care, it wants to close down the overflows in favor of filling the main map. That’s the problem with bypassing the megaserver’s logic and taxi’ing.
As I understand it (and I may be wrong), once the server decides to close a map, it’s going to close in 1 hour.
It can abort when the previous map in the chain fills up, but it can also bug and still close when it said it was going to. It’s like they use different population values on when to close a map and when to volunteer. For example, say a map will enter a volunteer state when the previous map is less than 50%, it’ll stop volunteering at 75% and at the designed closure time, it’ll close if less than 80%.
The currency shown in the gem store is based on your chosen country, which you enter when you go to buy gems.
Certain manufacturers use cheap switches, which can get dirty and wear out more easily. Personally, I’ve never had a problem with using the same mouse for years, until I got a Razer, which I’ve had to repair several times now. If the button occasionally doesn’t work when you press it, or twitches (or releases) when you hold it down, you need to take it apart, remove the plastic casing on the switch and clean the metal contacts. Alternatively, you can buy new switches to replace them, which are like a dollar for a few, but you’ll have to solder.
Probably a problematic asset server. Open cmd.exe and enter the following command:
nslookup assetcdn.101.ArenaNetworks.com 8.8.8.8
Pick one of the addresses and use it like so:
Gw2.exe -assetsrv 54.230.119.119
You can also try -log to generate a log file of what it’s trying to download.
The could probably implement a “fast forward” option fairly easily. Cut the voices and let dialogues play out instantly.
Infinite use.
It’s caused by the temples being contested, this one being Melandru’s specifically. They broke those effects when they implemented megaservers.
They never said they were going to upgrade, they said they would look into it, which they came back and said no after that. Back in the original beta, references to DX10 were found, but nothing ever came of that.
GW2’s engine is archaic, being built on top of GW1 and optimized for DX9 with custom wrappers, effectively giving it the features from later versions. Simply swapping in a different DX is not going to improve performance at all, but rather reduce it. To actually increase performance, they would need to rewrite the engine, which will take years. They said they were working on a native mac client, which is basically just that, so that would be the best time to do it.
They should use the simulator as a training area, where you can spawn whatever enemies you want. It shouldn’t be limited to the guild hall though.
Implementing an easy mode for instanced content would actually be very trivial. They just scale up/boost/buff your character. Every time you time, stack the boost higher. It’s not possible in the open world however, as it would require a separated map, and it isn’t a good idea to split the players. In both cases, the current option to easy mode is by simply bringing more people. Group for the story and zerg the open world.
If ArenaNet wanted to slow you down just for the sake of it, they could have simply raised the level cap, but without actually raising it. Think masteries, but also affecting combat, which would work much like scaled events with level 81+ enemies. VB could have been (HoT mastery) level 1-20 for example (basically scaled 81-100), which would have forced you to level through the content. Much like the original leveling experience, this would also mean facing stronger enemies while pushing forward, but having an easier time going back. Instead of masteries, they could have just been level up rewards (for the core masteries) while some could have been through achievements or whatever. If they really wanted to extended it, they could have gone the whole reputation route, requiring you to gain reputation through the completion of events, opening up new vendors. Exalted Acceptance for example and all those types of masteries are an obvious reputation line, where Gathering could have been from a reputation trainer.
So a level 10 player could solo the level 80 personal story parts in Orr? If you cannot solo those level 80 enemies as a level 10 player, wouldn’t the personal story thus be gated by levels?
I guess you could call it soft gating or whatever, but hard gating is to require something before you can even try. Nothing was actually stopping you from running through the entire story at the earliest levels, and it was possible by simply bringing help.
The problem with challenging solo content is that you either can or can’t. That’s why group content is always the “challenging” content, because it’s not balanced to challenge each individual, it’s balanced for the group as a whole, allowing for others to pick up the slack and making it easier to tune. So what you end up with is a hybrid of solo content that allows groups, however doing so essentially allows groups to trivialize the content, much like the living world achievements. Including the group size in the achievement would fix that however.
All content should scale, or at the very least, the rewards should. The problem with doing that however is the risk that good players will choose to scale down, while the bad players are stuck together. Although soloing would be more challenging, a group needs to be more rewarding as an incentive.
If your IP is wildly changing, it’s going to want authentication. There is no fix to that, as it’s working as intended. If you’re always choosing to remember the IP however, it should eventually stop.
If you switch to using a desktop authenticator, you can skip the email step, so it’ll be a little faster.
dw looks like legendary mace is on its way
Where did you find this?
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/539buk/upcomming_stuff/
I’ve completed this mission at least 12 times and 70% of the time the kitten mission is bugged and I’ve had to repeat it multiple times to complete it.
If it happens to you so frequently, make a video to document it. Any remaining bugs are likely difficult to reproduce.
I’d be willing to bet many of them never crafted a legendary and have no plans to do so in the future.
(that’s why they were cancelled)
