Make Clock Tower - Soloable

in Halloween Event

Healix.5819

You never know, it could be a limitation. Having to private instances for hundreds of thousands of players could lag the servers. Unlike personal stories, events are supposed to attract players at once, meaning more are attempting it at the same time. Since the instances contain few objects though (unless the movement is a big deal), I doubt it’d be that big of an issue.

One could also say it’s more fun with people.

the first brekaup was bugging (stoping half breakup then carrying on for a split second..no problem for the actualy jump) the final jump into the clockface was deffinatly bugged. I exit ..waited 5mins ..re entered wiht differnet bunch of people and done it 1st try

I saw the same thing when mine was bugged. All the pieces that you had to wait for would pause for a second roughly 1/2 way through their rotation.

I’ll assume everyone saw this, and this can be the hint towards a bugged instance.

wow, so put a block on clock tower?

Healix.5819

It’s a bug. I encountered the same thing. I even tried roughly 9 times. I told everyone in the instance it was probably bugged, then left. I then joined another and did it on the first try.

The first odd thing I noticed was that all the moving/spawn-in platforms (like the first gear where everyone has to wait) would spawn, rotate about 1/2 way, pause for a second, then continue the rotation. If you witnessed the same thing, that could probably be used as a hint to a bugged instance. I thought the instance may be lagging behind/ahead a second, so I tried jumping late/early, but it had no effect.

Should Level Cap Increase in Xpacs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Healix.5819

This question was asked a year ago and…

Colin: “Yeah. The level cap will be 80 on the initial release of the game, and we absolutely would increase it further into the game, probably through expansions is the most likely place we would do that.”

Also, they’ll no longer be doing the Gw1 style expansions which were standalone (aka complete starter zones to level cap). It’s now horizontal at level cap and vertical progression in expansions.

It also doesn’t really matter if they increase the cap. You’re still going to be max level in SPvP, WvW has always be low vs high levels and you’ll be downscaled for all lower content like you already are.

Is the Gold to Gem price ratio going to decrease once the Halloween event is lower?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

It will decrease, but not by much. It’s pretty much around where it’s going to stay at.

In order for it to drop more, more people have to sell gems for gold. If your goal is to actually buy gold, you’ll probably turn to the gold sellers, since they offer so much more. The non-shady types will of course buy from ArenaNet.

In general, the gem price will slightly increases for pretty much the entirety of the game until those using gold sellers find the conversion rate decent and then it’ll hover. Every time something new is added, the price will marginally jump, as seen now.

It might go back to 1g for ~125 gems (last I checked it was ~110), but I highly doubt it’ll go back to 1g for ~150 gems and never back to the good old days of 1g for 400 gems.

I wouldn’t expect that to be true anymore though, unless that many people really bought it (enough to keep them backordered for months).

Most of the people probably wouldn’t have had an issue with the drop rate if the skins dropped from the treat bags, like how subscription-based MMOs work. If you really wanted them, you could spend the time to obtain them – by playing the game. This way, they are seen as rare drops.

The problem is, you have to buy keys and odds are, you could spend more than a years subscription and still not get one, or at least, the one you wanted. They’re no longer seen as rare drops since you’re paying for them. I know I would only buy keys in an attempt to get the skins, because frankly, the general contents of the boxes (boosters and tonics) are completely useless. Now imagine wanting to obtain a unique skin for every holiday event and how much that would cost.

If their goal was to actually make money off of this and not just keep it rare, it completely backfired for me at least. The second I heard about the drop rate I decided not to try at all, since in general, I’m very unlucky. If their goal was to make money, I would think selling a box with a random skin in it would have sold more, with the currently expensive ones being more rare than the others.

To play in a dynamic, ever evolving world. PvP. Potentially unlimited content. “I’m better than you”. To play with IRL friends. Challenge (ie, soloing group content). Playing the market. Making gold just to feel rich / be richer than others. To help others. To harm others.

It’s a PvP game, not a PvE one; get over it or move on.

fyi, a PvP game fails to keep the majority entertained, causing the game to either die out or have a small, albiet dedicated, population. All but the hardcorest PvP players will eventually get bored of doing the same thing over and over.

A PvE game fails the PvP crowd, but the PvE population vastly outweighs that of PvP, so it’s a smaller blow. Failure to keep the PvE crowd entertained causes the game to look dead and affects both groups more so than the other way around.

Saying “it’s a PvP game” is actually a bad thing. To be truly successful, it must be a PvX game.

Orr is intentional. The designer of Orr commented on it in one of these type of threads a while ago.

For other zones, I never see it happen, except for the occasional the mob I just killed instantly respawned, which I assume could be a bug. There are certain places (some caves) I’ve found with really fast respawns, but it’s probably intentional, because there’s usually a chest around.

The level cap increase was said by Colin during an interview:

“Yeah. The level cap will be 80 on the initial release of the game, and we absolutely would increase it further into the game, probably through expansions is the most likely place we would do that”

There won’t be tiered level 80 gear though, since it’s supposed to be horizontal progression at the level cap.

Originally, they said dungeons were supposed to be difficult and intended for a coordinated group of friends. In fact, they also said some of the dungeons were so difficult that the QA teams couldn’t beat them.

If dungeons were actually like that, an auto LFG queue simply wouldn’t work. PuGs in general wouldn’t work unless all players were above average.

The other reason for not having one is in theory, since you just need 5 dps, you should be able to find them instantly. Normally, I only do guild runs, but if we need 1 more, it takes about 10 seconds just by saying so in Lion’s Arch.

The queue system does have its benefits though and opens dungeons to a larger portion of the community. I for example only do PuGs if the queue system exists. I don’t bother with spamming chat.

Usually, you’ll know what attunements you’ll want to switch to next, similar to the next steps in a dance. At any moment though, the steps can branch out into other paths depending on the situation. These paths can be seen as short rotations, but the master path is random.

Also, your hand is keyboard dancing while playing… unless… you click.

The female ones (the ones without hats/masks) have double (or more) the aggro ranged compared to other Risen Acolytes (male). This can be easily seen while underwater and swimming over an area, where they’ll aggro even though the mobs above them haven’t. On land, it can be easily seen in places where they’re in the back and male ones are in front of them.

The problem magnifies when underwater, since what looks safe actually aggros a few of them from varying places quite a distance away.

When you mouse over a target, a red outline is shown around it. The outline is even displayed over spell effects. Simply adding a toggle to always show the outline for your selected target would help to fix the “I’m blinded by spell effects” issue.

It could also be made to display over other players, which could look a little strange, but would allow you to see small targets infront of big characters. For example, when a asuran boss does a telegraphed ranged attack, but it’s hidden due to other characters standing infront of it.

Bots affect everyone, from market prices to slots in WvW to locked full servers. If there’s enough of them, they can even lock down drops. For example, on my server they currently have totems locked down, since there’s around 15 rangers with bears zerging the grawl. There’s way too many bots at this point. On a typical run through a zone, I usually see more bots (around 50) than actual players. The sad part though is that recently, unless they’re hacked account, I’ve been seeing what looks like real players (guild, non generic gear + dyed, non obvious fake account name) starting to bot.

and until this company employs server backups of characters then i think anyone playing this game is wasting their time.

They do have backups, they’re just currently unwilling to manually rollback your character. Besides, it’s impossible to get hacked if you properly setup your account and have decent security since they would need both the password to your account and your email. If they got both, you either have bad passwords or have lost a lot more than just your Gw2 account.

DR on Loot Lasting Days

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Healix.5819

Sometimes, DR doesn’t seem to reset automatically. I’ve hit the DR on a event just by doing it twice. The thing is, I did the event, went afk for around an hour, then did it again. However, if I do the same event twice within an hour, but do other events inbetween, I won’t see the DR.

When I was farming totems, on days 1 and 2 I found around 12 each. On days 3 and 4 I only found around 3 each. I would suspect that not only is there a DR on mobs of the same type, but there is also a DR on being in the same zone for too long.

Leave Orr completely and go somewhere different, like Frostgorge. Who knows how long the DR will last, so stay there for at least 1 full day.

Healix.5819

I’ve only had people drag mobs to me very rarely and it’s always been because they were either running away or running through. A few of them would turn around and attack the group after I aggro’d it all. I don’t have a problem with it since I can just AoE it down anyways. If I didn’t want to aggro it, a simple step to the side would do.

Lot’s of people revive. I’ll go out of my way to. As soon as I see an icon, I’ll head to it. If you’re acting like a bot and I’ve decided you’re a bot, or I think you’re AFK, I won’t rez. If I rez you and you don’t move, I’ll guard you for 5 or so minutes hoping you DC or move. I have seen “Combat Healers” that never rez though. I wear the tag because I truly do it. The only other time I won’t rez is during elite events, when you’re downed next to a AoE/cleave that I know will 1 shot me (such as the champion charging wolves). I will rez you as soon as it moves away or after it does the next cleave/aoe.

I’ve never seen any one say stuff about stealing loot, and I purposely do every event and usually solo. Mind you, I havn’t been in Orr for about two weeks, so maybe the new generation of “kiddies” are there.

All skill points are solo-able. If anything, they can’t be done during prime time since they get bugged.

Let's Start the Karma DR Dialogue

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

DR when farming rare crafting materials is not that bad. Remember, they could always greatly reduce the drop rate and remove the DR. It took me around 4 hours to get 30 totems for a full exotic set. Those 4 hours were broken up into 20 minute intervals over 4 days. The first and second days were my best days, obtaining a majority of them (~25), whereas on day 3, they just stopped dropping and I only found ~2 of them in bags. Day 4 was almost the same but 1 dropped, finishing my farm.

DR on events, I’ve only had happen once. I did an event, went afk for an hour then returned, doing the same event, but now with DR on the rewards. I solo most events and do every one I see. Taking roughly 5 to 10 minutes each, I rarely see DR, even when doing chains and event after event. DR should be balanced around events taking at least 5 minutes to complete and there should be DR on farming the same event, but it shouldn’t last an hour+.

DR on drops in Orr is a little unfair. A majority of the mobs are of the same type, so DR is easy to hit. This makes it kind of unfair to those who truly play through the zone, clearing paths, rather than skipping through.

DR on gathering? What? I think I hit this once, last night. There was a mithril right next to a rich mithril. I mined the normal one then the rich one. The rich one vanished after 3 hits. I gather everything that appears on the minimap and that was the only time I’ve seen it. DR on gathering shouldn’t exist and the only reason for it is to combat teleport/speed hacker gatherers.

In general, I think DR is supposed to be a way to combat the unexpected – a sort of blanket fix to anything that could go wrong, be it hacking, exploiting, a bug or something else. There may be a few things to work out now, but eventually, you’ll probably never encounter it. I rarely do as it is, but then again, I don’t try to power farm.

When you give your card out over the internet, it becomes a matter of is your computer safe and are they storing the card in their database. If you do it through PayPal, it just becomes is your computer safe.

When you use your card in-store, it becomes a matter of is this person stealing my information, which is as simple as making a print of the receipt, taking a picture/imprint or simply writing it down/memorizing it.

Reporting people quad boxing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

Multi-boxing is one of those fine line things where it’s entirely up to the company to decide whether it is okay or not.

A 3rd party program that sends a key press to all computers is actually a violation of the macro rule. However, this is usually ignored since you can use hardware to do the exact same thing, which isn’t a violation. It again becomes a violation however when the command sent to each computer is then converted into a macro, activating additional commands.

Since there isn’t a follow command in GW2, each character will have to be controlled using the movement keys. This means there will be sync issues over time, making it difficult to control. If there’s a few characters running in the exact same path and repeating, it’s probably not a multi-boxer, but rather bots that are setup to farm.

If the multi-boxer is just turreting the clones while the main one aggros stuff, that could be easily done by simply using multiple computers and initiating auto attack on each clone, which is not a violation. If they just wanted to multiply the loot, they just need to be in a party and the clones don’t actually need to do anything, which again, is not a violation.

For PvP, it would be simply too difficult to manage. Not only would they be easy to AoE, but without the ability to follow, you would only need to use a knockback to break them all, minus the master.

If you got the DPS, you only have to kill the wall 2 times. Usually it’s 3. If you got AoEs/line attacks, you can hit both claws and the head, tripling your damage. For example, as an elementalist, I just spam vapor blade across the claws and it does around 1k damage per hit, 2 hits, to both claws and the head for a total of around 6k per second. If everyone did that, it would die much faster.

When the crystals spawn, melee should get rid of them rather than dying to the ice and the engineers should be rezzed. When they’re gone, pick up explosives and drop them on the wall. Throwing them is around 9k while dropping them is around 30k.

Grind - Staying or Leaving

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

There’s only a grind if you choose to play it that way. Anything and everything can be seen as a grind if you choose to do so.

When I hit level 80, I was half way through the level 60 zone, 30% map completion and had around 100k karma. Once I finished Orr, I had 220k karma (around 900 events completed) and 50% map completion. Without grinding, I could buy the karma sets.

I then went to Frostgorge and participated in the dragon event a few times. 2 days later, I fully crafted an entire exotic explorer’s of the pirate set and all accessories.

I then decided to make a healing/toughness set and temporarily made a rare one. After grinding grawl for about 4 hours over 4 days, I had 30 totems to fully make the exotic set. After the 2nd day, none dropped and I was only getting them from loot bags. The first 2 days I actually found around 25. 3rd day was like 1, the rest was day 3.

By this point, I have so much crafting materials, that I can make rare pieces to break down into ectos over a 100 times.

For dungeons, you’re not supposed to obtain the gear for the stats. This isn’t your typical WoW-styled MMO. Dungeon gear is supposed to be rare, meaning not every single person is supposed to be wearing it, though they are still going to make it easier to obtain. They probably should have just made the token dailies. Likewise, Legendaries are supposed to be even rarer and only the extremely dedicated should have one near the start of the game. A year in, they’ll be more common.

D/D is faster, S/D is just safer.

All you basically have to do is ring of fire > earthquake > signet of air > churning earth.

I use D/D and while in Orr, I always try to pull groups of at least 3 and depending on what they are, usually up to around 8. If I need to run around and collect mobs, I usually start out with burning speed to the first one, then drake’s breath, or the other way around if my last target is a little aways. I then ring of fire, switch to earth, earthquake, signet of air, churning earth – half way through churning earth’s cast switch to water, arcane wave, frost aura – churning earth casted. Follow up with frozen burst, dodge roll backwards/out and cone of cold. If they’re still alive, switch to air, ride the lightning (optional), updraft, shocking aura, switch to fire and burning speed back in. If they’re still alive (must be all veterans), drake’s breath, fire grab and begin to repeat initial rotation.

I use the 20% more damage to vulnerable foes while in water attunement, which is why I switch to water during churning. I also have vulnerability on arcane/signets, so all targets have 6 stacks. Additionally, I have 5 points in arcana, so I have fury when switching attunements, which makes churning usually crit, around 5k

For gear, I just run with pure magic find (meaning it could be even easier), so all power/precision/magic find. It’s offset by the fact I’m water/earth/arcana though.

If ArenaNet was hacked, there’d be hundreds of posts per day about being hacked. You’d commonly hear about it in-game and a few of your guild members would be victims. As seen in Rift.

With Dagger/Dagger, it’s basically the same thing.

I just pull everything, ring of fire, earthquake, churning earth – switch to water mid cast (+20% damage from piercing shards), signet of air and arcane wave (10 stacks of might, +6% vulnerability). Stuff with low health is already dead. Stuff with a little more I just use cone of cold / frozen burst. Stuff with even more, I repeat the sequence.

The most risky group I’ve done was during a defense event. I used blazing speed into a pack. Since the game limits the amount of mobs shown, the pack was actually 2 packs of around 12 each. I had arcane shield at the time, which was on during churning and popped instantly. Everything died though.

The most fun pull I’ve done is… soloing the temple of grenth, despite chat telling me “it’s too hard, you need at least 10 people” :/

Those that abused the auto cast feature are exploiting an in-game function to simulate a bot, hence you are banned for botting. Their reason given for botting is probably generic, which would be why it says 3rd party program. If you actually think it’s okay to put something on auto cast with the full intention to get rewarded while afking events, enjoy your ban. Saying it’s an in-game feature is not an excuse. Your only chance of getting unbanned, is if they just happen to give everyone a pass again.

Those that didn’t afk auto cast, probably did something else, such as using a programmable keyboard. You might not think it, but using a keyboard macro to press multiple buttons is also considered automation, aka botting. This would be referred to as a 3rd party program.

In very rare cases, some people are banned without warrant. It usually takes a very long time, if ever, to resolve the ban because they at some point saw evidence showing you were automating something, when really, you were mimicking a bot-like play style.
