ArenaNet has called WvW a place for casual PvP and an unfair warzone. Since it’s based around larger groups, an individual’s skills plays a less important role. It doesn’t matter that 1 person can stun you for twice as long because WvW wasn’t designed for 1v1.
Using the PvP ruleset is either a design choice or a limitation. Since it’s supposed to be casual, they’d probably rather have people jumping in to WvW casually, without having to spec their PvP template and learn the PvP versions of their skills. Or maybe, it’s just the way it is because it was designed as PvE first, PvP second. On the other hand, it could be a limitation, where PvP skills are tied to the PvP characters, meaning the whole system would have had to been used and leveling through WvW may have not been possible.
WvW should however use the PvP version of skills, to make it more confortable when transitioning between SPvP and WvW.
I imagine if they added it, your level would be based on the zone you were in and would only be downscaled/upscaled if you were already. You would probably be able to duel on a zone border and hop between downscales (ie, level 50 vs level 45), which would make the duel unfair, but that’s ok, because you chose to duel there.
For the win condition, it would probably be the first person to get downed, then on duel completion, the person would rally. They could make the condition just before defeated, but on downed would probably be simpler for them to do.
Do you have a source for this? Because I heard it was on their to do list. Not their immediate list, but eventually.
It’s on their list of things they want to add: http://i.imgur.com/inYDU.jpg (from the BWE)
The dailies will still probably be random, there’ll just be more choices. Since you will get to pick the ones you want out of what is offered, they can add more specific dailies, such as complete 1 dungeon, complete 3 fractals, kill 5 players in WvW, kill 1 champion, etc – aka the ones people would normally complain about if they were forced to do it.
I bought ~5000 gems @ ~400 gems for 1g and another ~5000 @ ~300 for 1g. If I were to sell my gems now, I could make a profit.
If that’s what you’re referring to, buying and selling gems using the gem exchange, that’s perfectly legal. If you buy gems now however, you won’t be making any profit, probably ever.
Grenth can be easily done with a large group as it can be done with a small group. The only difference is that with a small group of less than 5 players, it only takes 1 person to carry the team. The more people you have, the more that are needed to know how to step in the shade pools.
A zerg should not get a free pass just because they’re a zerg – encounter mechanics should matter.
Past 8 people, I just ignore the shade entirely as they take to long to kill and will just down you with the 25 stacks of corruption. Its better to just go straight for the boss and hope the shades aggro on the bads while you kill the boss.
This is why larger groups fail. Too many shades spawn for the usual people to carry the zergs by themselves. A majority of the zerg just stands there, shooting at the boss and some are even bad enough to constantly shoot at the shades, doing zero damage but since the health is going down, they think they’re helping.
The shade’s aura affects everyone, so leaving them up is just going to eventually kill everyone. The worst thing you can do is let them all live and keep DPSing the boss until more shades spawn at which point the stacks raise even faster. The only time just DPSing the boss will work is when you’re in a zerg so large, it exceeds the scaling limit, allowing you to mindlessly sit there while 1 is autocasting.
For every 5 people participating, at least 1 person should be killing shades. Preferably, everyone should get the buff and everyone should at least AoE them. From past experiences however, usually only 1 in 20 bothers.
Can we get a desktop app for the 2-step authenticator?
As you may already know, the authenticator used is a standard implementation and for mobile devices, Google’s authenticator is used. Since Google’s authenticator is open source, there are many adaptaions of it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Authenticator
The HTML5 one for example is very simple, just download and open the html file with your browser.
The reason why desktop authenticators aren’t showcased is because of security. If you allow someone to see your secret key, your authenticator is pointless, since they will also be able to generate the key.
Which is why I wrote that only I can see it, the question is WHY I can even do that the is no pratical function. I already know my e-mail obviously.
It’s a client side display issue – a bug. Support won’t be able to do anything except tell you it’s a known bug. Since only you can see it, it’s not a security risk and as such ArenaNet believes it is not an issue, meaning it’ll get fixed whenever they get around to it.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Email-address-displayed-in-guild-roster
It stacks in duration.
It’s a client side display issue. Only you should be able to see your own email.
If however you can get a screenshot of someone else seeing your email, ArenaNet would like to have it.
Someone’s bot broke and failed to type in the “buy gold here” message or it was censored.
There is an arena mode (Custom Arenas) that can handle 1v1, 5v5, GvG, etc, but it’s not available to the public yet. It also costs a fee for the person making the arena. It’s supposed to be available soon.
The reason you start out looking like a level 1 noob in SPvP even though you look like a champion in PvE is because you are a level 1 SPvP noob.
You can tell when they’re alts because they have to load the game and will probably pause for a few second after loading. In comparison, a bot will appear, instantly begin gathering and then vanish as soon as they’re done.
I three manned all story modes (with 2 fresh 80s in greens) a little while ago and HotW was the hardest simply because of that boss. As an elementalist with full cleric gear, hunter’s call would do something like 120% of my health in damage (I just remember full healing and still being at around 50% after it ended).
The birds should go away when you dodge, similar to how the bees work in TA, or a slight damage nerf.
First, get a ranged weapon.
If you have a reflect:
Engage the boss, apply a snare and hide behind one of the pillars. Don’t hug it too closely because if you do, it can shoot through it (bug). Once it gets close to you, step out from behind the pillar. Immobilize it if you can, since sometimes it will continue moving right up to you until it’s within melee range. When it twists/spins, it will shoot multiple bolts, this is when you’ll want to reflect, since it’ll do around 10k damage. It will only use this attack if you are close to it. When it casts the lazer, step back behind the pillar. Once the lazer is about to end, step back out. If you’re too slow, it will move towards you, where you’ll either have to reset it or run to another pillar and try not to get killed during the run.
If you don’t have a reflect:
You do the same thing, expect you don’t need to snare it and try to move it to just outside melee range.
You should take 0 damage the entire encounter once you learn the animations and when to step behind a pillar.
Shades can only 1 shot you if you’ve left them alive so long that you have around 15 stacks of the debuff. At that point, anything that hits you is going to 1 shot you.
The first thing everyone should do is go and get the shade buff on the sides. Now that you can revive people while having the buff, there’s no point in not getting it. Since shades spawn based on the bosses health, a majority of the people (all ranged at least) should be killing shades. The longer the shades are alive, the higher the chance everyone is going to get 1 shot it. The faster you kill the boss while shades are still up, the more you risk having multiple sets of shades, which can almost guarantee a wipe.
To make it faster, drag the shades to the boss and just AoE everything. This can be easily done in smaller groups, or when everyone is near grenth, since the shades will come to you.
Also saying it works better with less people means that the event is broken, as it is a public zone event which means it should be tuned for large numbers of people or be instanced.
Events should be much more difficult when you zerg them compared to what it’s like now. Grenth is one of the few events where a larger group will fail due to a majority of the participants ignoring the mechanic. Scaling caps of course, so these larger groups simply get more people, thus never actually learning the encounter.
You can guest on whatever server you want, allowing you to do anything on that server, except for WvW. The fee is simply to prevent people from WvW hopping to the winning servers.
The number of buttons you have means nothing. WoW is bloated with useless skills, Rift even more so. You can easily have 100 skills and only 5 commonly used ones.
not only….
They will be upgraded with the lvl cap making better than ascended…..
They only said that legendaries would remain the top tier, the highest on the rarity chain. One day, when the level cap is increased to say 90, level 80 legendaries will still be the top tier, at the level 80 range that is. They never said that legendaries would scale with your level.
Grenth has always been easier with less people, simply because less people = less shades and since I usually find myself soloing them all, that means it’s much easier. From everytime I’ve done the event in a larger group, out of 10 people, usually only 1 person bothers to properly kill shades (I once kited around 15 or so shades while a zerg of at least 30 people didn’t even bother to try and kill them. They all died, I walked away). The longer you let the shades live, the more incoming damage you receive, so eventually, everyone is going to get 1 shot.
From what I’ve seen so far, the changes to Grenth have actually been a nerf compared to its original form – at least when I’m soloing it.
Having someone stand next to Jones isn’t actually a problem, if the person “tanking” the boss line of sights, forcing the boss to move to the back of the room, near the skill point. Jones is then out of range and only in danger of respawns from the path in. Moving the boss in the other direction however, just past the middle of the room, will put Jones within AoE range, regardless of if someone is near him or not. A majority of the time, this is why I see groups fail.
I didn’t get a chance to try the day 1 grenth change, but from what I saw, everyone who did it, zerged it. I’m betting any less than 5 player group could have easily done it, which would make sense, because that’s how QA would have tested it.
I three man all three paths of TA (elementalist, ranger, necro), all level 80, they started in full greens, some rares. The necro is average and the ranger is really casual.
Besides fractals (up to 10) and all story modes, TA is the only explorable dungeon we’ve done, since they wanted the look of the gear. There is nothing overly difficult in TA.
Up path
Malrona: For the spider, either snare it and kite it around or take your best player (reaction time) and make them melee. The spider doesn’t auto attack and only has 2 attacks, a spit and a poison volley and it will always do them in that order. Watch for the spit, the volley is next. It won’t cast until it reaches the target, hence you could kite it around to stop it. When it’s going to cast the volley, it starts glowing yellow. At this point, have the person in melee range simply dodge forward. If the person in melee range had aggro, the spit will only be directed at that person. Your other players are free to carelessly range the boss down.
Fyonna: There’s nothing really difficult about this boss. You can however pull her to the tunnel to ignore the egg sacks.
Nightmare Tree: Stay in the tunnel, kill any turrets if they’re close enough to hit you and ranged the boss down.
Forward/Forward path
Leurent’s Elite Guard: Watch your minimap, wherever the gear icon is, that’s where a portal will teleport you. Just don’t use the first portal to teleport into the first bubble, because it kills me all the time.
Leurent: Now that the 3 adds are no longer Knights, you shouldn’t have any difficulties here. If you can’t take all 3 adds and the boss together, simply pull the boss down the path, the 2 ranged adds won’t reset, but the other 2 will.
Nightmare Tree: Simply dps the boss while kiting the oakhearts. When they put both hands up in the air and hit the ground, wait a second and dodge, to avoid the root. Only one hand up in the air is the knockdown.
Forward/Up path
The Defiler: Simply ranged down the boss and 2 adds. Very simple.
Vivena: Kill the 2 husks and don’t stand in the mesmer AoE. Nothing really difficult.
Nightmare Tree: When the boss shakes, wait a second and dodge or move from your last spot. An AoE will occur and adds will spawn wherever you were standing. Staying in the tunnel and killing all spawned adds will eventually cause the AoE to stop spawning them. When that happens, ranged down the boss.
Intro
Champion Nightmare Vine: To trivialize the first boss, 1 person will be focused with the spits, simply have the person LoS, but keeping aggro on any new vines. No one else will have to deal with the spits.

There was a just over 1 GB patch a little while ago, so yes. Regardless of what the % says, you should be seeing the files remaining count going down, unless your launcher is still retrieving that info.
DR is not a safety net as you describe. That would be called Quality Assurance.
QA can’t catch everything because 1) not all exploits are obvious and 2) some things only happen under specific scenarios, which might never occur during testing. DR is the safety net, slowing down the rate at which you can be rewarded by, in most cases, repeating the same loop. If they wanted to be mean, they could easily say dungeons can only be done once a day, events only reward you on your first completion every hour (or greatly increase the respawn timers) and loot now drops only for and is shared by the group that killed it. That is how DR works in other games.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Let-s-Start-the-Karma-DR-Dialogue/page/5#post338359
Once the DR system is fully tweaked, a legit player should never encounter it. As of now, If you don’t do events in a zerg and loop them or tag and run, you won’t hit event DR. If you do more than the same path in a dungeon and/or don’t skip, you won’t hit dungeon DR. I haven’t farmed mobs in about 2 months, but I never or rarely hit DR while AoEing my way through Orr. Back when I did farm, after about 100 mobs, DR would be noticeable so I’d AFK for about 20 minutes and it’d be gone.
DR isn’t just for bots. DR is also safety net to catch exploits or something that was not intended. If there wasn’t DR, it would be far too easy to farm something simply by creating a zerg, mulitplying your loot. Event DR slows down the ability to tag and leave, event hopping through the zone. Dungeon DR just catches exploits and gives an incentive to run other paths.
Requiring something like a captcha doesn’t stop botting, it just temporarily interrupts it while the bot calls its master for help. For the human players, it simply creates an annoyance.
From what little info google has on it, it seems legit. Note that it does not have the direct approval of ArenaNet. ArenaNet just allows parsing of their trading post website, which they could take away or limit at any point in time, which is what this program is relying on.
Is it worth it? From what I can tell from screenshots, it’s essentially just gw2spidy but it in real time and the profit margins are spelt out for you. They claim to refresh their data every minute, which is like 426 requests a second or 852 if they’re pulling all the data (assuming they are in fact using real time data and not ArenaNet’s cached data). They either have multiple accounts on different IPs to pull the data, or I wouldn’t doubt it if they get blacklisted by ArenaNet for spamming, which wouldn’t hurt you, but would cause a loss of service for the program.
But is it actually worth the cost? Well, from what I’ve seen, I made the same program in about 30 minutes, so probably not, so you’re basically just buying your way into their forums. For someone that doesn’t want to waste time looking through the TP and doesn’t know even basic programming (you could even write it in javascript), it’s probably worth it.
What it will get you: Assuming mine and theirs does roughly the same thing, the program will allow you to make around 100g a week, casually, as in you “play” the TP once, maybe twice a day for 10 minutes, with a very low risk of losing money, unless you’re intentionally being risky.
(edited by Healix.5819)
If you actually wanted to prove it, you would need to farm in intervals of 50 mobs with at least a 20 minutes downtime inbetween. You’d then need 100,000 mobs per sample.
After 20 minutes of solo AoE farming (maybe 100 mobs), I hit the DR cap. Hitting the DR cap will pretty much normalize all your samples.
Just fyi, he probably added you to his friends list to find that out. Nothing bad.
Guild roster. The friends list only shows the zone, and only if they’re online.
Assuming you were not guesting on your last login, your home server is Anvil Rock. The only way to check while offline is by getting someone else to look.

They didn’t straight out say the development of the mobile app was cancelled. However, when asked about it, they shifted to talking about the API. Since their app would be based on the API which is not yet released, the app would have to be put on hold until the core of the API is finished. With that in mind, their first app, assuming they make one, will most likely come out along with the API as sort of a demo.
Since the API is designed to allow the community to build their own apps, the original extended experience probably won’t happen. What’s the point after all, when a dedicated player could make a better one at no cost to ArenaNet, where they could then feature it to further popularize it.
The original interview:
Q: I was pretty excited about the announcement of the Mobile and Web Apps, from the blog post it seemed like a much more complex project than your traditional MMO Companion App. Will the Apps be ready for launch day?
A: For launch we won’t have any GW2 apps available for use for players. However, soon after launch we’ll be launching a robust app development program in conjunction with our community that should allow for the development of some truly spectacular GW2 app and website development. We’ll discuss this more post ship, right now we’re focused on making the release of the game the greatest it can be.
No, it was pretty much cancelled.
Instead, they will one day release an API so that the community can build their own apps. They probably will release a demo for the API however, which will probably be a simple version of the “extended experience” they originally showed off.
Drop rate also has to take into account the fact that everyone gets their own loot. The Orr change was probably intended for solo players. Zerging it however is like adding a multiplier to your gains while reducing the effort.
The devs never said they were against farming, they said the opposite. They’re just against botting, which impacts farming.
i supposed the rich ori node was removed after some complain about low levels mining them using the karma mining pick, which i think pretty lame . they could have simply add the requirement for using it to be lvl 60+ , and leave the rich vein alone….
Doubtful. The rich node was removed because if it wasn’t, you’d be getting 3x rich ori nodes very easily. Now you can get 3x regular ori nodes, which is pretty much equal to the one rich node.
A certain amount of nodes spawn randomly throughout different sectors of the map. If you confine yourself to a specific area, eventually you’ll see less nodes, while the area right around you happens to have more than usual.
There has always been a limit to how often you could loot the chests. Back at the start, it was common to be able hop overflows and end up in an in progress “dragon” event, which would not yield a chest.
Some people used to heavily abuse the 1 day server transfer to gather hundreds of Orichalcum a day and were never banned.
I checked the karka hive Orichalcum on a guested server and it wasn’t there, so I’m guessing if you gather it on your home server, it’s also disabled on the guest server.
Do we know when they’re releasing Ascended weapons?
No. All that’s been said is that a full set of ascended gear would be available roughly a year after the first pieces came out. Weapons will probably either come out next, so in 3 months, or last, after all the armor pieces.
What’s the auto-upgrade mechanic? What can it upgrade to, nothing has higher stats than legendaries at the moment.
When ascended weapons are released, legendaries will be automatically upgraded to have ascended level stats. They have not announced what will happen to legendaries that have been transmuted however.
Your transmuted helm has the stats of a white item. It’s only of the rare tier in color. If you transmuted a legendary to a white item, it would also have the stats of a white item and only be purple in color.
To actually make an account bound legendary, you would need to transmute a legendary with another legendary (or exotic/ascended). It really depends on how they’ll handle already transmuted legendaries and the ascended update.
Originally, a transmuted item said it was soulbound, but it was actually account bound. They then changed it to show account bound. If it wasn’t intended, they would have probably made it soulbound, rather than showing that it’s actually account bound.
“Uncontested waypoints have been added to Cursed Shore and Straits of Devastation. Players that have already achieved map completion will retain it without having to discover these new waypoints.”
It just says you won’t loose 100% map completion due to the new waypoints. It doesn’t say they will be automatically unlocked.
I haven’t gotten a chance to try it yet, but has anyone tried not zerging it. I’ve always seen people in chat claim that 10+ were needed to complete (the old) Grenth, but it was easy enough to duo.
From the patch notes:
The difficulty of events to claim and defend the Orrian temples and the Gates to Arah will now scale to accommodate a larger number of players.
It’s probably because you have the wrong daily. Although you see daily X, the server is probably seeing you as having daily Y. Yesterday, some people reported the same problem, where they had today’s daily and weren’t able to progress it.
You can try blindly doing today’s daily, assuming it’s a display error, but if the client is responsible for saying “daily done” then you still won’t be able to complete it.
13 enemy types, 10 ally revives, 15 dodged attacks, 20 gatherings and 5 events.
I don’t see my own name or email or that of other people. I see the character name and display name like usual.
Your character and display name are properly shown using the friends list, so I’d imagine other people either don’t see it or it’s limited to your guild.
They would have to be Laurels (PvP) and they would only be used to buy SPvP stuff, since they want to keep the two separated.
To “install” the game, you just need to run the launcher. It will automatically download the game.
Download: https://account.guildwars2.com/account/download
or direct link for setup: http://cloudfront.guildwars2.com/client/Gw2Setup.exe
or just the launcher: http://cloudfront.guildwars2.com/client/Gw2.exe
If the launcher is what’s failing, you’re having connectivity issues, which can be caused by a slow or unstable connection, firewall/other software or some other factor.
January doesn’t give laurels. The only unfair laurel was the extra daily reset.
I didn’t have any issues with Combo Killer.
As an elementalist, I did the achievement with an NPC mesmer (southsun cove) that would put down a field. Using a projectile finisher would apply confusion to the target. If I applied the combo at the very start, it would still count – a killing blow by the combo was not required. I also used a blast finisher to apply chaos aura, which also counted after the mob died.
As for those who couldn’t finish it, the daily reset shouldn’t have happened, so really, it was a bonus to begin with. Everyone that usually logins after the reset didn’t even get a chance at the first daily laurel.
Soon you will get to choose which dailies you want to do out of a set.
The combo daily should be changed to just combos however.
I found nothing wrong with the combo killer achievement however. I did it with the NPC in southsun cove during the bomb the nests event. All I did was use a projectile or blast finisher on the NPC’s field and then proceeded to kill a target a few seconds later.

It wouldn’t be that difficult to do, it just depends on how much work they want to put into it.
If they wanted to be quick and dirty:
- Racial skills lost
- Cultural armor would remain as is – unusable and soulbound
- A default personal story choice is selected for you up to whatever level you were at and order you selected or simply the personal story is automatically completed and you’re given no choice
If they have free time:
- Any bought racial skills are refunded
- Cultural armor remains unusable. To convert it, they would have to check all your characters and bank to calculate if the old achievement should be removed and the new one added
- You reselect your personal story character creation options, your personal story is reset to 0 and all rewards are disabled up to the level you were at. Alternatively, they could make you answer a questionnaire to fill in your personal story up to the level you were at. They already have the personal story journal, so they could use that to tell you the story of your choices.
They probably will have a race change option one day, but for now, they don’t have the free time to do so and they probably wouldn’t want to use a “you’re given no choice” option to do so.
As of Jan. 23rd multiboxing is no longer allowed.
I was told after several days that this is they’re true stance on multiboxing:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Q-Is-multi-boxing-allowed/first#post245276
Answers from Mods/CC is like getting an answer from a friend of a friend. In this case, the answer is using the idea that 3rd party programs are not allowed and as such, multiboxing isn’t either.
Their actual stance on multiboxing is that it’s not supported but they do not prohibit it as long as the player is not botting one or more of the accounts.
