Why not Ascended Gears from classic dungeons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Healix.5819

Healix.5819

One of the reasons for ascended gear was to forcibly slow down progression.

Once they release the second set of ascended items, the first set will probably be made available via other methods, just like they said – ie, karma, WvW, dungeon tokens and maybe crafting.

Depending on what path they take for future dungeons, they’ll have to make ascended items easier to obain at some point.

overpoweredness in general

For story mode dungeon, they should be easy. Since they’re for the story, they should be tuned to a general, moderately easy difficulty level.

For explorable modes, what most people seem to forget is that these dungeons were announced as the hardest content in the game designed for a group of coordinated players. When I first heard that, I assumed they wouldn’t be PuGable. When I did my first explorable (HotW), I went in remembering what they said only to realize that the actual difficulty was a joke and I thought story modes were harder. All dungeon grouping (no lfg, leader drop kick) problems probably exist because dungeons were designed for friend/guild runs only.

Adding a cast bar for your target would be against their design decision. You’re supposed to watch the animation of the mob, not the UI. One thing they do need to work on though is telegraphing (obvious start up animations for big attacks). Some mobs have it while others don’t. For example, mobs should actually turn to attack and not just do a 180 flip. See Tera for an example of what mobs should be like.

Need more stat combinations on Ascended items

Are the addition of ascended item options not finished or is this intended?

Both.

Ascended items are unique and fixed, so what they give you is what you get. If every option was intended, they would be more like exotics. This is the downside of ascended items and why a full set is not always better.

The current ascended items are only a portion of what will be available. More will be added over time.

Is it true?

In expansions its not a problem. If they raised lvl cap, it would be logical to introduce gear for the next lvl cap. Otherwise, if the lvl cap stays as it is now and they still introduces the next tier of gear, game wont be anything different than another WoW.

Currently, “tier 1” is ascended rings and back. “tier 2” will be maybe earrings and necklace. “tier 3” will be maybe gloves, boots and helm. “tier 4” will be maybe shoulders chest and pants. Finally, “tier 5” would be weapons.

Exotics were to easy to obtain, so they are gating the aquisition of ascended gear. When “tier 2” comes out, “tier 1” will probably be given away all over the place. They could easily stretch out the single tier of ascended gear over the year, where then, a new expansion comes out and it starts all over again.

They called ascended gear a fix which is usually withheld until an expansion, meaning a true “tier 2” as seen in WoW will most likely not be happening. Assuming they truly believe exotics were too easy to get, what if, next expansion (pretending ascended items were never introduced) they made exotics gated like ascended items are now. Would the majority of those against ascended gear even realize that this scenario would be the same thing as ascended gear?

Is it true?

Healix.5819

What’s wrong with 1 person guilds? Have you ever thought that they created their own private guild to get away from the spammed guild invites because they simply do not want to be bothered? If they’re in a solo guild, they’re in it for a reason. The same can be said for small guilds, which are usually made up of friends.

If you try to combine smaller guilds, usually they end up leaving, quitting the game or creating their own little clique with their old members, which basically makes it more like a guild alliance.

If you take away the ability to make private/small guilds, they’d just form a guild by random invites, then kick everyone, simple as that.

If your actual complaint is that people are representing their private guild (to get a free bank) instead of your guild, then kick them. People will do what they want to do, and in most MMOs, you wouldn’t even know they were doing it because of alts.

The simple point is, you can’t force people to join guilds. As for loyalty, if they like you, they like you and if they don’t, they don’t.

Dwayna is possible with 5 people at the very least. Lyssa defenitely isnt, Grenth might be possible.

Dwayna and Grenth can be duo’d. Balthazar can be done with around 5. Lyssa requires all the events to be held, which can be defended by 1 person each, so 5 minimum. Melandru needs around 5, just because of the transformation it forces on you.

I’d say they’re all easier with less people, as long as the people you’re with are competent. When there’s less people, the damage/levels/number of enemies are reduced. For example, on Grenth, only 1-3 shades spawn when there’s less than 5 people people, compared to the 10 that usually spawn when there’s a zerg.

Which is why we need a direct answer to the question: Is ascended gear the final tier of gear stat wise

They can’t answer questions like this because of people like this:

If you get an answer? What have you then? just an other promise they will breake

If ascended gear doesn’t end up serving its purpose or lasting long enough, then they will end up adding another tier.

This is why they answered your question with

“Adding item progression is a delicate process normally undertaken in an expansion, but we feel it’s important to strive to satisfy the basic needs of our players sooner rather than later”

and

“We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on”

What is a Gear Treadmill?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

If you look at it from the long run, there will always be a gear treadmill. One day, the level cap will increase (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLHfq2lJY5A&t=58m35s) and everything will start all over again.

Ascended gear itself is not a treadmill, unless you look at it from the perspective of having to upgrade your exotics every few months as they add more ascended items. If they only release ~3 pieces for every new dungeon, then that would mean by the time you’re fully geared, it’s almost time for an expansion. If they choose to raise the level cap with every expansion, that would mean a continuous cycle.

Healix.5819

It looks like they’ll be basing ascended gear on raid gear in other MMOs. Instead of having tiers of ascended gear, they’ll slowly release different pieces for each new dungeon as well as infusion upgrades.

Like WoW, when the current tier becomes obsolete because of a new raid, they will make the gear easier to obtain. I’ll assume this is when they’ll allow it to be crafted or purchased. Basically, every 2 months, the guy who farms the dungeon will be marginally better compared to the guy who doesn’t. Unlike true raid gear however, this increase is very minor and won’t even matter except in the most extreme occassions. Why have increased stats at all though? For one, the stat distribution is fixed, so you’ll never get a perfect set and second, they probably realized that having a carrot, albeit a very small one, is better than not.

For the dungeon, there’s a boss after every 6 paths. Each time 3 are completed, the difficulty increases. Since ascended gear is “rare” I’ll assume the bosses have a chance to drop it and maybe even trash has a little chance. The higher the difficulty, the higher the drop chance, which is a little odd, since to reach the higher difficulties, you need the gear. Also remember that they are changing loot drops to make them better. The exotics of tomorrow will probably be the rares of today.

ArenaNet probably chose this path because they noticed that the number of people that want a carrot greatly outweighs that of the number of people that will do something just to be doing it. Their design philosophies will change over time. This is their first MMO after all, they have to test the waters and try new things.

For those complaining that this will ruin WvW, note that ArenaNet’s response will be “war isn’t fair” once again. Plus, I’m pretty sure anyone not currently in full exotics has a much bigger disadvantage compared to someone in full exotics, compared to full exotics + 3 ascended. Even then, it only matters when you’re attempting to solo in an environment designed for large battles.

For those thinking ascended gear will be required to get in a group, it will be. Any group that wants to farm the dungeon will want to reach a higher difficulty for better drops. To reach those difficulties, you’ll need the gear. I would expect groups wanting to reach a high difficulty to not be PuGs however. For groups just wanting to run the dungeon, the gear won’t matter. It will all depend on drop chance increase with difficulty and how agony actually works and if it’s possible to outskill it.

Im not playing Guild Wars 2 for gear grinding tier1 tier2 tier3 tier4 ext.

Since they’re gating the release of the gear, the “tiers” will actually all be of the same ascended tier.

Since the first dungeon will be rings + back, one could assume the next dungeon would be 3 other items, such as earrings + necklace and so on for each new dungeon.

Once they get through all the gear, then it’s masterwork infusion upgrades. After that, rare, exotic and ascended.

They have a lot of room to work with before reaching the next level. Assuming a 2-3 month delay inbetween updates, the level cap will probably increase before reaching the end (full ascended with ascended infusions), where it then starts all over again.

They trashed the holy trinity so you could any dungeon without having the classic “LF tank” or “LF priest”.

Wait, now we have “LF full ascended player”. That’s much better.

I have yet to see LF full exotic player. So that argument doesn’t hold that much ground.
Though I guess you will see LF ascended player for deeper levels of the same dungeon.

It does hold ground because only Ascended armor can be Infused and thus offer any protection from Agony.

the Real question is Is Ascended gear really the most optimal option for all content

in WvW and explorable’s am i still better off useing Exotic because I can slot ruins
were i can only slot infusion in Ascended

and what are the stats on Infusion exactly ((this we realy need to know))

There are no stats, only protection for Agony, making Ascended gear pigeonholed into a certain stat set.

so basically I am still better off going for Exotics for EVERY OTHER PART OF THE GAME! or legendaries but that will take some time

If you’re after specific stats, a mix and match of both exotics and ascended items will be what you want.

If you rely on rune bonuses, then you’ll need exotics. For the accessories, it’s up to the above.

If you run with whatever or a balanced spec, full ascended gear will be what you want.

All of this is assuming ascended gear comes in that stat choice you want. Remember, ascended gear is unique, so that 1 magic find ring, is the only magic find ring.

They realized that what they did with exotics was a mistake. The fact that you could be fully decked out in final tier min/maxed gear in a day greatly reduces the game’s lifespan for a large group of players. If exotics actually took effort to get and at least a month to obtain, then ascended gear may not be needed. With ascended gear, they’re purposely gating the acquisition of it. The first dungeon will be 2 pieces. At that rate, it’ll take 6-9 months to complete a full set.

A lot of people seem to be misreading this line: “we’re only adding the first level of Infusions and Ascended Rings and Back slots”. Some people seem to be reading it as “we’re adding the first tier of ascended items” when it actually says “we’re adding ascended rings and back pieces along with the first tier of infusion upgrades”.

As for claiming there’s a gear treadmill because of a single tier, there will always be one. This isn’t GW1 where the level cap will be the same forever.

Ascended items aren’t even the best items available. Sure, if you look at a simple side by side comparison or don’t care about stats they are, but look at the big picture. It would actually be really funny if all ascended gear had magic find on it, because you know, it comes from a dungeon that revolves around grinding it for rare ascended gear.

Why lessen the gap with better armour?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Healix.5819

The acquisition of full exotic gear was simply too fast. Some people claim it’s a massive grind, but if you actually played the game, it took just a few days of playing a few hours a day to get an entire set through crafting. The only point of doing the dungeons was for the skins. Personally, I had enough karma to buy a full set of karma gear once I reached Orr around a week after launch.

They could have made ascended items have the same stat distribution as exotics, but then there would be no incentive to actually aquire them. The whole point is to extend the game. Without a carrot, most people will simply quit. Additionally, ascended items will only come in certain stat combinations and cannot be upgraded with jewels or runes, so there is a downside in having them. A mix and match set will always be better as long as you are min/maxing a specific stat.

They are gating the release of ascended items to force people to slow down. By doing this, they can also add another “tier” of gear to work towards, which is actually the remaining pieces of the last tier. When they say progression between exotics and a legenday, I think they’re referring to time spent, since there is no actual progression between the two. If you play normally, by the time you get a full set of ascended items, you’ll have a legendary. Previously, you could get a full set of exotics on day 1, then you’d have to grind the legenday as the only thing left. At the current rate, a full set of ascended items will take 6-9 months to aquire, spread out over several dungeon releases.

They are adding 1 new tier to the game and gating the release of that tier over several dungeons. People probably won’t have full sets for another 6 months. They’re not going to add ascended+1, +2, etc level gear. It’s not a treadmill similar to WoW where there’s a new tier of gear almost every other month.

Where the treadmill will be is with the infusion upgrades. The first dungeon will use fine quality infusions and the blog post even states it’s just the first level. You can only assume the second dungeon will use masterwork and so on. Infusion upgrades are for the dungeon and only the dungeon, coming in offense, defense or both. They won’t be more stats but rather damage increase/mitigation against that dungeon.

Ascended gear won’t even be the best gear in some cases. The gear is unique, so if you wanted to min/max yourself, you wouldn’t be able to do so with the accessories if for example, you were going for a crit damage build. Furthermore, if you rely on rune bonuses, ascended gear won’t have them. Since the stats on ascended gear are fixed, everyone is also assuming that the stats you want will be available, when some very specific combinations probably won’t be.

For those that thought they were fully geared and done forever, you do know they most likely will increase the level cap with expansions right? It’s something they want to do and have all but straight out confirmed it.

Out of all the complaints, which are mostly based on assumptions of the worst case scenario, I’m surprised that no one is complaining about the fact the new dungeon is nothing more than 1 big repetitve grind with the bosses set inbetween.

Exactly. This gear is meant to be used specifically in the new dungeon and I suppose only the hardest encounters will require that special condition protection. Whiners gonna whine.

…Players who wish to delve deep into the Fractals will find that Agony makes progress increasingly difficult, until they reach the point where some defense against this condition is a must. The only way to mitigate Agony damage is by building up resistance through Infusions…”

There’s 9 “paths” within the dungeon. From the start, 3 “paths” are automatically chosen for you. Once you complete all 3 you arrive back at the start to be faced with another 3. After that, you get to fight a boss. After that, it goes back to the first step. Every time you complete a path (3 “paths”), the difficulty (agony) increases.

The dungeon goes on and on and may be limitless or until you’re overwhelmed by agony. The only need for agony protection is when you choose to continue going. If you just wanted to see all 9 paths or kill the 1 boss, you don’t need any, because if you did, well then, it’d simply be impossible since that’s how you get it.

As for the bosses, they may or may not be randomized. If they’re random, then that’s it. If they’re not, only those with full agony protection will ever see the last one and that one will probably drop the good stuff.

The ascended gear has fixed stats and cannot be upgraded. In the future, when the armor pieces come out, don’t expect to be able to rune them. Also don’t expect for them to provide every stat combination imaginable. For example, if you run with stacked crit damage, exotics will probably still be the best.

For the “treadmill” it will not happen for the gear itself. There won’t be tier 2 ascended gear. If they did go that route, it would be a different rarity. What they did leave open is the infusion slots. Since they’re starting at fine rarity, that means they can upgrade them over time for harder dungeons.

Since the ascended gear is supposed to be rare and I’m assuming rare as in dropped rather than because there’s only 2 pieces available, then I do expect that people will have to grind for it by killing the spawned bosses every 6 levels. Certain bosses will probably drop certain pieces, unless they went full on RNG, then that’s just mean. Either way, there’s probably not a lot of stat variations, meaning the example ring could very well be one of the only rings, for now.

As for gating content, there is no gate. You do not need ascended gear to complete the dungeon. You only need it for the challenge mode style of the dungeon, which revolves around repeating the dungeon over and over until you die due to agony.

There is a lot of exaggeration flying around and some people are way too quick to jump ship. It’s not like it’s raid gear that allows you to faceroll that only the 1% can obtain. And for those complaining, thinking they never had to change their gear again, a level cap increase would have eventually forced you to anyways.

For those expecting a treadmill to come out of this, there will be one, but not for the gear. Ascended will most likely remain the top tier “raid”-styled (from dungeons only) gear from now on.

Where the treadmill will take place is with the infusion slot items. Since their rarity will be fine, that means they still have room for masterwork, rare, exotic and ascended, which will probably be used for future dungeons. As you can imagine, a mostly full set of infused gear will probably be required to start progressing through the next dungeon where 1 masterwork infusion will probably equal 2 fine.

But then, what happens when they reach ascended ascended? I would expect an expansion to be out before then, increasing the level cap and completely resetting everything again, with them adding “does not work past level 80” on old infused pieces.

If a full set of ascended gear will be obtainable after the first dungeon is completely done, they’ll probably allow it to be, at least partially, crafted for the next one. If it’s really supposed to be rare though, the first dungeon might only yield up to 4 pieces, making it take an additional 2 future dungeons to fully complete a set.

Also remember that loot drops are being changed. Bosses will probably have a higher chance to drop exotics now, including chests and champions. Exotics will probably be too easy to obtain now.

From the sounds of it, the ascended gear will only come from the dungeon, meaning it’s for the dungeon. They also say it’s rare, meaning unlike the other dungeon gear (tokens), it’ll probably only drop off bosses/chests similar to dungeons/raids in other games. Since it’s supposed to be a rare dungeon drop, it may or may not be tradeable (I’m guessing not), it all depends on if they’re using this as a progression tool or status symbol – so don’t expect it to be buyable.

The big question is, what color will it be. Red?

Also, infusion slots will probably be for flavor. Such as skill X now does Y against Z, or the very basic +X% damage vs Y.

For all we know Ascended armour might be usable only within the Lost Shores dungeon.

^ This will probably be their answer to those who like to raid for new tiers of gear, but in this case, you’re grinding gear only to make this one dungeon slightly easier. If they want to take it a little further, the gear would also minorly help in the next dungeon.

so if they add 10 more lvls in next expansion you all leave too?

becouse lvl 80 exotics will be crap

idk if you followed this game prelaunch with statements like this.

Are you saying he’s wrong? Because they already said they would like to increase the level cap, which would most likely be done along with expansions.

It kind of sounds like raid gear. The article also states the gear will help you tackle new challenges in the dungeon.

I’ll guess it has stats on it like -5% damage taken from <creature type>, 10% more damage against <creature type>, etc.

Either ArenaNet learned that the average player requires a carrot, unless it’s super hard to obtain, then it’s the hardcore players need something above the average player, or the speculation is just speculation.

If I were to assume that they wouldn’t go against their own rules, then ascended armor is as its name implies. Similar to infused armor, this armor will have increased offense/defense against ascended creatures.

With the new enemy AI in Cursed Shore...

I’m a glass cannon elementalist and wear full magic find gear, so I’m additionally down a stat. Note that the devs (or at least the dungeon dev) balance damage around glass cannon specs having at least 14k health.

I solo farm in Cursed Shore quite easily, and I pull groups of 3-10. You just have to press dodge once in a while. If you get pulled, knocked down, stunned or immobilized a lot, you’re trying to play like a warrior.

Put a dagger in your off hand. Killing a groups of mobs is pretty much as easy as going Churning Earth + Signet of Air.

Just wait until they allow mobs to dodge and intelligently avoid AoEs.

In the past, they stated that WvW is what they always intended for GvG to be. Furthermore, they didn’t like the fact that there were so many different modes of PvP in GW1 because not only did it separate the community into groups but it also made it harder for people to join in due to having to learn a new format.

GvG as a format will probably not be making a return.

The closest premade vs premade / competive format would be tournament PvP, paid more so. The even higher competitve format would be a branch of that, being the seasonal matches, assuming they’re still doing that. If you want to go straight to the top, that would be the world matches, but those will depend on how successful GW2 is.

If you want to duel with another guild, then custom arenas (coming soon) will be the place for that. Custom arenas are basically private maps.

Will Voice Activation be detected as a cheat?

Can it be detected? Yes.
Will they care? Probably not.

It’s basically a macro. It’s okay as long as you don’t do something like: saying “attack” = 1 <wait 1s> 2 <wait 1s> 5 <wait 2s> 3. Complex macros are generally considered a violation. Simple macros, aka 1 key press, are ok.

Login to your GW1 account. Visit the HoM in GW1 to verify your account. Logout. Verify that your GW2 account is actually linked with your GW1 account. The email should match the one you used to login to GW1 with and not the email GW1 or the NCSoft master account is registered under.

Login to GW2 and visit the HoM. The update should be instant.

If you still can’t access it, you’ll have to contact support. Your account is probably not actually linked. Alternatively, you can try forcing an update by adding something to the HoM in GW1.

In my opinion, it’s just like a scam from Anet since they never told that people with banned GW1 account couldnt claim their rewards, they did it on ~20 september when they couldnt fix their rewards buggy thing.

They said banned accounts wouldn’t be able to be linked long before you could link your GW2 account. It was said on the GW1 forums around a year ago.

Who seriously expects to get rewarded for a banned account.

The dragons flying around should shoot acid balls at the zerg that do 50k damage and cause an AoE puddle for a few seconds that ticks for like 5k damage every 0.5s, meaning you’re instantly defeated.

That’ll teach ’em…

Normal events scale to up to something like 10 players while elite events scale up to around 100. If they uncapped it, the risen would probably be level 90+ or simply 1 shot.
