Stopped reading there… Arrow carts wouldn’t be used if anyone was better than one…

Then you probably don’t like the ranger in the first place. If you stopped reading then the ranger will never be improved. You need to site an example. Standard ACs just tickle these days. Ranger damage output is worse.

I’m sure there have been many threads on this subject. But until ANeT actually addresses the issue it needs to be brought back.

ANeT, please give the ranger class boost that it needs and changes that make us DESIRED in WvW and GvG. I heard yet again in TS – “I don’t allow rangers in my guild.” And this is a wide-spread attitude among WvW/GvG oriented guilds. You have allowed an entire class to become ostracized. Every update you do you have made us more and more irrelevant.

Being relegated to a roamer class is like being a second-class citizen.

Basically:
- Rangers need a big damage output boost. We’re talking 25% plus at least. We need to be feared, especially at range. Right now we are worse than a standard arrow cart.
- We need more actual AoE attacks.(Not traps)
- Many of our traits need to be condensed or natural to the class. Being able to always run at 25% without having to use a signet should be a given for example.
- Our pet, to be viable, needs to hit like a Mac Truck and be survivable. Right now a pet dies like an ambient creature.
- Other classes need to have certain abilities removed that should be exclusive to he ranger class or to other classes. Like the elementalist being able to heal like there is no tomorrow(and at range at that). And warrior horns are just ridiculous and recharge WAY TOO FAST. Ours takes 30 seconds in comparison.
- We need to be able to detect stealthed objects and target them. We are one with the land, or so I’m told, so if something is out of the ordinary we should know it. “Look at those tracks on the ground being made by nothing we can see.” “Oh, it’s just the wind, ignore it. No body could possibly be using stealth around here.”

Anyway, please do something meaningful. You have allowed rangers to be alienated in a social game. That means, customers are being alienated, BTW.

Well, the results speak volumes. We got literally nothing to improve the ranger’s desirability in WvW or GvG. The Ranger is(and will remain) shunned in WvW and GvG. I can’t be part of my guilds GvG because I play a ranger. I can do WvW with them because I’m very good with my ranger and use my healing spring in the middle of the battle on the commander when called for.

Anything the ranger can do there’s a class that can do it better and more often. Elemetalists have loads of AOEs, can heal at a distance and their cool downs are fast. Even with the pet heal AOE upcoming, your pet will be dead in seconds so it won’t matter.

Improvements should have included massive damage boosts on all arrow attacks, faster Barrage cool down, and maybe adding some way to have arrows explode on contact for AOE.(other than a crit sigil.)

I’ve posted many ideas in other ranger improvement threads, but ANeT will continue to just let the ranger die a slow death. I’ll continue to await the day when ANeT does an all ranger update and leaves the other classes whining because the ranger suddenly became a feared class.

I can’t find the dev post, but it was confirmed somewhere that swapping is not the same as unequipping a weapon.

One big suggestion I have for ANeT is to improve the search function for the forums so we can find posts before repeating questions. Sometimes you can’t even finish the word before the search begins. And copy-paste into the search window – forget about it.

Maybe this was asked already, but the search function on the forums is terrible.

Does the wording mean that if you run, let’s say, Long Bow with a Superior Sigil Bloodlust and you switch(weapon swap) weapons that your 25 stacks will vanish if you had them?

Here’s the wording: “On-Kill sigils (those sigils which trigger when you kill something) have received an update as well. The functionality of each sigil has changed so that killing a player is worth five stacks of a sigil in any game mode, while killing a monster only grants one stack. This type of sigil will have more strict rules applied on them, so that a player will no longer be able to gain 25 stacks and then un-equip the sigil.”

Like: Standardization of timing. Makes more sense.

Dislike/Observation: Hard to do a server-based gathering to do a boss as a server. It will be harder to also be offered help from the likes of TTS who have graciously gone from server to server aiding them in completing bosses like Teq and the dreaded 3-headed wurm.

A few more important points to be made here:

  • If your world usually has a comfortable population on a given map, you’re unlikely to see much of a difference here until the map actually starts getting full. We’re not going to toss a bunch of people from another world into a comfortably occupied server and make it uncomfortable.
  • But some worlds do fill up all on their own pretty regularly. The improvement from this perspective is that if you try to join a very full map, the system will find another instance which also contains people from your world rather than the old overflows which were much more of a mixed bag.
  • If your world has a very low concurrency on a given map, we can put you and everyone else from your server into a map with a more comfortable number of players. The key term here is “comfortable.” There’s breathing room. Megaserver is not overflow in reverse.
  • It’s very difficult to understand this situation if you’re not willing to look at the big picture. Similarly, you can’t really explain urban traffic by using a metaphor about seats at a dinner table. Server populations are big and they are not concrete. Players flow in and out all of the time, even when it seems like a map is completely full. The major change in the way the game is handling population is that it’s making better-informed decisions about where to direct you. If only my GPS did that.
  • As the blog post mentions, we’ll be monitoring this very closely to make sure that the end result is positive.

Here’s a question that occurred to me. What about the timers for world bosses and temples? What happens when I see a timer say that it’s time to go free a temple in Malchor’s Leap. I decide to go down there and the Megaserver overlord device decides I need to go to another area where it is already done? Is that in the calculations? Will it prevent me from going to an ongoing temple event that my friends have told me about? Has that been thought out in the Megaserver idea?

Sign. Rangers got shafted. The only trait worth considering is the survival condi cleanse and even that is in the wrong tree.

Does this really surprise you? Every time ANeT does a “balance” update the other classes seem to get boosts while rangers either remain the same or get worse. Rangers already had to really prove themselves if they wanted any respect in WvW. I run one, and only because of my experience and ability to stay alive while doing damage and healing the zerg do I not catch the same ration of kitten most rangers face in WvW. Skill truly counts for rangers.

Anyway, all the other classes are getting decent buffs.

Devs:
1. Quit killing off the ranger with the slow drip of mercury in our veins.
2. Combine several of our traits and make some natural to the class itself.
3. Read the Wind should be a bug fix not a trait. If you want it to be a trait, combine it with the other long bow traits as one big master trait. Really, a GM trait for a single weapon?

I have many more suggestions that I’ve posted in other threads, but since they apparently will fall on deaf ears again, why bother posting them?

Yet again ANeT buffs other classes and gives rangers the finger. You’d think we are the most powerful class in the game with the number of lame traits they are creating.

I want the Read the Wind trait to make it so I can detect and target stealthed creatures. “I’m reading the flow of the wind around the area and something doesn’t seem right. Oh, there’s a thief/mesmer over there.” “Draw arrow and fire.”

Give us more damage output for kitten’s sake! Rangers continue to remain useless to WvW.

They wont listen, they will say they are but they will keep releasing content for TTS or top tier servers. I understand your post and I support it but let’s get real, they don’t care because you can guest to another server.

You’re so right. What happened was, IMO, the players found a way to consistently defeat the knight portion of the event to reach the Hologram fight. The devs apparently did not like the the fact that their precious event was going down on a normal basis through actual thinking by the players and decided that only a TTS style group should be able to defeat the knights. Now there are players on many servers who will never be able to finish the content.

So much for play as you like. Now it appears to be “Play as you like, unless you defeat the event we designed too frequently.” Really, ANeT, if you want people to enjoy the content you release, quit trying to make everything TTS style. I was enjoying the content and my server was coming to together on it. Now they only farm the zone for champs unless the zone is full. They IGNORE YOUR KNIGHT EVENT COMPLETELY!!!!!!!

Up until the latest update that was truly meant to benefit larger servers(even if not on purpose) I would have said A+. But now that they decided we were having too much fun and that we had actually figured out how to beat the event regularly, D-. Close to fail.

At least I completed the content before that. Now I can do world bosses and WvW without worrying about missing an event that I once truly enjoyed.

Seriously, people actually started moving to the regularly scheduled boss fights like Jormag and Golem II yesterday.

Good job alienating casual players, small servers and making it a “Play the way ANeT wants you to play” event. I could see if there was an exploit, but the run from boss to boss method was actually fostering coordination and server unity on my server. That is all but gone now.

Really? I kind of thought the change was an improvement. Until the change no group I was in was able to beat the Prime Hologram for some reason or other, but after the change things seemed to work out better. That, and breaking up the knights forces three groups of players to coordinate, which solved the issue of getting into the Prime Hologram area only to die from a laser path immediately (turns out Scarlet starts doing stuff a minute after the first knight is killed, so if they die at the same time, you can enter the arena without worry).

My server had no problem until the latest update. We would take out 1 knight at a time and still have 2-4 minutes left on the event. Then we would go in to the Hologram fight, a few would die or be downed, but not event failure threatening. We weren’t aiming for perfection, we were aiming for success.

Before the all on one knight method we were having occasional successes. The groups with fewer people tended to fail even if we got the knights down and progressed to the Hologram.

Now you need a larger force than one single zerg(40-60 was my server’s zerg doing the one at a time method). If you don’t have 3 sizable zergs, you fail, and never reach the Hologram fight. The old method actually brought our server together, but now LA is just a champ farming zone. I’m sure if they can swing a full zone they may try the new REQUIRED method, but otherwise the event is dead on my server.

Basically, we figured out how to beat it, so they made it harder. Since we couldn’t get the 6 minute mark on my server we settled for downing all three knights so everyone could get in and take out Scarlet. And if it wasn’t meant to be zerged then they shouldn’t have made the knights so tough in the first place. Then the players would have naturally split up and tried to down them in the 6 minute time frame because they’d be doable with smaller groups.

I can see making you get attuned to damage the knights, but why limit the number of people who can become attuned? Just make it more like the Holo fight and it would have been fine. Instead, they’ve made LA into a ghost town with barely anyone(in other words, not enough people) participating.

Basically this change has ruined the fun I was having. People were actually getting together and having fun. Enjoying that they could participate and succeed in taking out the Knights and the Holos. Now, LA is almost empty at times when there were at least 60 people the time before the patch. Thanks ANeT.

It’s become like the Scarlet invasion of zones. You changed it from a chance to get decent loot, to needing a massive zerg in the entire zone to actually succeed. People on my server just stopped going and the jokes in Teamspeak about how we had all better stop Scarlet from taking Lornars Pass again(which we didn’t bother with).

Anyway, thanks for at least a few days of enjoyment of this Living Story arc. Maybe we can actually take out some of the other world bosses now that most people are discouraged from doing the final battle for LA.

There’s no hate intended I believe. All you had to do was a few daily achievements in the two weeks of the update. It’s been that way with nearly all the living story releases. So it was nothing you shouldn’t have known about(unless you are brand-spanking new to the game). Also, nearly every living story is at least 2 weeks in duration, sometimes more – never less.

Sorry you couldn’t get a total of 15 for the reward. But now you have the knowledge of what you need to do next time.

I noticed that I’m only 7 of 30 for this while I have 12 of the items required. The question being, does it only count the ones harvested from the rubble? If so, it kind of makes sense. But it can be confusing when someone has more than the number indicated in the achievement.

Just curious – All they see is what map you are on, whats so bad about that? Its not as if they see your EXACT location while on that map do they? I know they do for Parties but thats fine.

All they need is the basic info to follow you on a map. In PVE it really isn’t a big deal, big zone, one person. But once you attack something in WvW, they can make an educated guess that you moved there. They just need to go to the spot. Yes, blah, blah, you can use tactics, blah, blah. The point is, this gives a big piece of intel that shouldn’t be given away by ANeT to an opposing server.

Solution: Unfriend the people of the other guild/server. Even if they friend you, they can’t see where you are as long as they are only your followers – eg. not on your friend list.
Friend someone that is not a follower of you, and you sill see that you can know when he/she is connected, but not on which map that player is…

That doesn’t work. A married couple already experimented with that. As stated by the person who used this technique, if you even have them on your block list you can track them.

So is ANeT going to fix this issue of someone from another server having you on their friends list and being able to track what WvW zone you happen to be in? Is it proper/right to allow it to continue? If you’re on another server it should just say “wvw”.

Here is a member from a guild from one server confessing to doing such a thing. I’ve removed references to the guild doing it and servers because I believe ANeT doesn’t approve of such postings if those are included:
“For those from * wondering why * wondering why * or rather ** in general may be focusing you, it is because myself and a couple others including our main commander recieved this threat from the leader of *(link removed). A little bit of backstory as to why we have recieved these threats is because we do not agree with how a certain commander in his guild does things and we told him but he put me on block immediately about 2 weeks ago and I hadnt made attempts to contact him since until we recieved these messages 2 days ago durring the end of last weeks matchup. We had tracked him through friends list now that you can see what BL enemies are on from it, and wiped his guild about half a dozen times in half an hour until they quit. Their main commander had challenged us previously in the week too, even saying how much he loves **** bags and for us to not give up (link removed). So the leader of * sent us those ingame mails and we take this very seriously because of the influence he has as a guild leader of a rather large guild and that he may be having his guild members to also spam report us daily. I tried explaining to him in a rather large conversation that you can also track people from other servers and what BL they are on from the block list but he refused to acknowledge that, also that it is not against the rules for simply having someone on your friends list but he is an idiot. So if you’re wondering why you’re being focused so heavily by *(we do our own thing, we do not represent the entirety of *), you can blame ******/**.”

how to fix rangers and thieves in wvw...

Rangers already got PBS on Longbow which is a great counter to both Hide in Shadows and Shadow Refuge. And Sick ’em = 4s revealed

Anything stealthed can’t be hit with direct fire, so PBS is useless at that time. Rangers need more than the pathetic damage boost on skill 1 for longbow. Wow, I did just a little more damage before the enemy closes with me ignoring the tickle I just gave them.

1. Rangers need an overall damage boost on Longbow. +20-30% on all Longbow skills.
2. They need to have a skill that makes them truly able “take down enemies at long range”(ANeT statement). Let’s say Head/Heart shot. Does a massive amount of damage, causes bleeding and stun(makes skills start recycle timing on target) can’t be blocked and ignores armor and negates invulnerable skill(doing normal damage). Make warriors actually fear seeing a ranger. This would be a burst damage skill. Add the effect to a signet that boosts damage output with bows, but when active it becomes “kill shot”. Uses skill 1 as its attack button.
3. Rangers are suppose to trackers. We should be able to ignore stealth at a certain range. And we should be able to target a stealthed enemy with direct fire weapons. Imagine how much more valuable a ranger would become.
4. Always move at 25% speed boost – no signet required.

Just 4 little ideas.

One massive improvement would be adding the ability to change the color of your commander tag. That way, when more than one is on the map, your group can easily identify where you are. Make like 6 colors or so. Blue, Red, Green, Black, Purple, Yellow, as examples.

The elitism is strong in this boss event.
The simple fact that you have to be invited to the correct overflow server is prooof enough. And then there’s the elitists in this thread saying it’s ok if a content is only doable by 10% of the players.

There should absolutely be content that only 10 percent of the players can do.

Then ANeT is ignoring 90% of it’s customer base. Not a very good business model. If ANeT creates content it should be doable by and for all. Hard content is great, but it shouldn’t require hard-capping the zone population. I believe our server finally took down Teq just last weekend. It took that long and a little help to complete it. The event otherwise remains pointless and unused 99% of the time. That means the content that was created was a waste of ANeT effort. A little less ridiculous champ scaling and less reliance on huge numbers would’ve made the Teq encounter a more enduring event. A higher chance of success by players would have kept them coming back. But the failure rate is just too high and it takes too much pre-coordination.

Unfortunately the wurm event will fall even more quickly into this category. Players will guest to other servers that will eventually succeed and never do it on their own server ever again. Our server is still trying to do it, but I believe interest will soon fall sharply. The marionette event is the only new content that is enjoyable so far. People actually enjoy it, even if we fail. Too bad it will go away all too soon.

They are not ignoring you. It’s your fault and yours alone for not taking the initiative to attempt or complete this content. If you are not good enough, then you do not deserve the rewards.

Happens with Queens Jubilee, happens with Teq, Mari and wurm.

It’s possible for everyone to complete this content. But in the end, only a minority actually do it because they are coordinated and committed to doing it.

I always love how some people ignore the content of the post and go directly at the person instead. Who said “I” haven’t taken the initiative? Didn’t I say my server was still trying to accomplish the wurm event? And wasn’t what I was saying merely an opinion based on observations which most objective folks know to be true?

The Queen’s Jubilee didn’t require 80+ or a maxed out zone to do, BTW.

Oh I’m not ignoring the content at all. I just think you are writing from an incredibly biased and narrow mindset.

I understand that you are bitter that it took you that long to take down Teq, but that is not the fault of Anet, as I said. Yesterday we took down teq with 6 minutes to spare. We had a full server, not hard capped. We had a bunch of players who understood the fight and simple adjusted strategies due to the fire ele nerf. Overall we just lost 1 minute on the timer.

Every single server out there has the capability of defeating Teq. It’s just no one wants to take the initiative to organize such an undertaking. The server I’m originally from has enough players to run two world trains at reset and reach hardcap. Yet they don’t bother doing Teq. That’s not Anet’s fault. That’s the player’s fault. They could do the content if they wanted to, but they’re lazy or unwilling. Yaks Bend even took down teq at reset at least once, we I know they have the capability of doing it.

Love how you make assumptions. Who said I was bitter. I was one of the people who was helping organize our final take down of Teq. I’m one of the commander(there are many) trying to get our server to complete the Wurm. We are very active in the attmepts. But with Teq, after so many failures, people just started guesting to other servers to have a successful Teq run. Many of us joined into see how it was done. And we applied that to our final success – which took until now, due to players just not wanting to come to the ever-failing Teq event.

Now, ever since our success, we finally are getting folks interested in participating. But facts are facts in my earlier statements about the 10%‘ers. The 90% must not be ignored to ANeT’s peril. If fun is not being had everyone involved the game is finished.

Was ANET yelled at for Liadra and that hard content? That was presented to the community as something only 10% of players would accomplish, even though more did end up beating her. That was welcomed with open arms and actually even more people cheered on ANET to make more content like that.

As others have said, there is plenty of open world easy things to do in this game. What’s the resistance for something that is actually hard?

If you don’t like it.. then go do the hundreds of other things that are at your disposal to do.

But Liadri was based on individual performance. Not a good comparison. Much like the Mad King’s puzzle – very individual based. You don’t need a maxed out zone and 1 hour of coordination to do such content.

HoD did it again today. We would’ve done it twice today if not for a bug. On the 5th boss it divided into another pad. 4 of 5 regulators were down too. But on our second try at 8pm server time we finished HoD’s 2nd downing of the marionette.

How about make it so commanders can color code their own tags? Give like 6 choices. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet. And they can change them any time they want to differentiate between commanders.

I would like to tip my hat to HoD’s FKB tonight in the IOJ garrison, you guys did very well and made good plays. Especially with managing your supply. Good job and thank you for the fun engagement.

As someone who has run with you I must say that we enjoyed it as well. I was the ranger on the AC above the Lord’s room. Plus I was down below for the first part of the fight. I was an intense little battle and fun was had by all.

Woo so the kitten talking begins I see. Sad that not many HoD decided to defend their bl but rather took all of CDs last night to make up for it. Oh well I guess you guys know how to play map politics which is better than most servers.

Good fights I guess, EBay still better skill wise, all HoD is so far is coverage which is why they dominate bronze.

I’ll be on HoD every night this week I believe so do try harder next time.

We would’ve been there to crush our enemies sooner if it wasn’t qued. But once we got in we crushed our enemies and watched them flee before us, listening to the lamentations of their….oh, well we crushed them.

Well this is kinda late but I hope ur not talking about cd bl , because if that was queued , you didnt do a really good job taking any keeps (HoD) , for atleast 4 hours after reset , then we logged off.

On unusual note , I was expecting a visit from MU/Mend ..like every reset, we even had the tea party table ready , sad sad night

If you want enjoyable and/or competitive play as a ranger archetype, the only option is to play another game. The class will never be fixed because this game’s vendor honestly believes the class to not be weak or broken. Complaining to the vendor here is like trying to argue with someone in the middle of a schizophrenic episode. It doesn’t matter how constructively, patiently, or logically the issues are presented, the vendor is too disassociated from reality for any of it to compute.

I’d love to see what the dev means by better. Are we gonna die faster/better? Are gonna have our attacks reduced better? Are we gonna have our spirit’s abilities reduced better? Is the long bow gonna be better reduced in damage output? Basically, you get what I’m saying. Is the ranger going to have an even “better”/greater gap in lack of performance than it already has?

HoD [MU] The /Beckons and /Laughs are HILARIOUS especially when you push my zerg over 10 times throughout the night and get SMEARED on the floor From SMC to CD bl Bay to open field [MU] is first to start the emote war, and first to suddenly hit the floor………

The only guild worth mentioning on HoD is [Dx] good respectable players there. the rest are meh and MU is huge PvF but when it comes to open field ROFLSMEARACROSSTYRIA shame you cant emote when on the floor

Here is the funny thing. You outnumbered the group we had with us 3 to 1. So much so that we literally had the outmanned buff. Pics will be provided by Gornok today. Then, to make matters worse, even with the massive numerical advantage you siege creep us, and take 45 minutes to take bay, when you have lost the rest of the map (except northern towers and Garrison) to NSP. While I do remember you wiping some of the pugs we had with us, the only thing I remember dieing of was the boredom that you can create by never pushing and siege creeping when you have triple our numbers. Finally, after all of that you decide it’s a good idea to come on the forums and specifically call out MU.

Let me consult Zoltar and predict the next few days on the forums for you. He says,

1. Danger Signet: Passive: Ranger can detect invisible foes and target them. Active: Breaks the stealth of detected target for 10 seconds making the target glow brightly for allies to target.
2. Canine pets can sense invisible foes and target them. With Signet of the Beastmaster equipped the ranger can as well.
