Removing white swords from objectives to give defenders a stronger role in alerting their team as well as giving attackers more of a chance to get through having their siege disabled.
This would be a mistake.
Very much so, it would be fine for full servers, but for those with low populations it would be a disaster….
Definitely a mistake. Lower population servers count on the swords popping so they can respond. They don’t have teams posted in every tower, camp or keep. This would basically be a gimme for large servers. They’d flip a keep before anyone knew there was a problem.
And ANeT responds on the forums with OFFICIAL ANeT posts. That tells you the info is good.
Yours is the truly silly response. You’re saying you would listen to any anonymous poster in a forum and do something to your computer, instead of going to the official source and having them tell you how to properly fix it?
If it was just me that this happened to I might consider this. But this happened to quite a few people. It wasn’t isolated. Thus, it requires at least an acknowledgement from ANeT on the issue plus an OFFICIAL yes or no on the fix people said might work.
When the advice from an anonymous poster includes “delete temp files” and “follow this link to the OFFICIAL client repair page”, then yes, you take that advice because those are “tech support 101” items that anyone who was born after 1980 can do in their sleep.
Good thing I was born before 1980 then.
Not in this case…
Which is why I don’t trust anonymous people posting on forums.

Sigh .. i wonder if Microsoft first asked ANet before they implemented such a feature into Windows :
This doesn’t work. Tried it.
The repair guildwars link does not deal with this issue.
What an incredibly silly thing to say.
You haven’t tried it, so you don’t know. To state things you don’t know as fact is silly.
Silly of course being a kitten-free term to describe it. There are much better synonyms available that would get filtered.
Stop being the cause of your problem and take the advice you’ve been given.
Clear your temp files (which are AUTOMATICALLY REDOWNLOADED when you start the game client if they are absent) and repair your client. The issue is 100% on YOUR end (corrupt file on YOUR PC), so YOU need to be the one to take action. You won’t get a response from ArenaNet, because they don’t have the ability or responsibility to do basic software maintenance on your machine.

It’s been nearly 2 weeks for me. I’ve found work-arounds for the basics of the TP, but I can sell gems for gold or buy gems with gold. I’ve reported it twice in the bug reports as well. Maybe they’ll just unceremoniously fix it in an update, but an acknowledgment that they are aware of the problem and fixing it would be nice.
So you still refuse to delete the %temp%\gw2cache folder ?
Heck you can delete everything in your temp folder because it is just for temporary files.
I want an OFFICIAL response. I will not do something based on anonymous people posting in a forum. The repair guildwars link does not deal with this issue.

ANET,
I’m still waiting for you to give an OFFICIAL word on the IIS7 problem. I’m gong on 2 weeks now of not being able to access the Trading Post in a normal way. I’m still prevent from exchanging my gems for gold or gold for gems if I wish though. There is no work around for that.
Please give an official announcement of how to fix this. Your silence on this matter is concerning.
Quibbling over semantics. Please stop. It is still an auction site in the same sense as E-Bay. Players set their price they wish to buy or sell an item. It is like a silent auction. Players can raise their bid and no one really knows who they are. Also, just like an auction, you set your “reserve” the minimum you will sell an item for. A player can either buy outright or bid below that and hope another seller prices theirs below yours.
It is still an auction site, no matter how you look at it.
There are no auctions on the trading post.
Having similarities does not make them the same thing. I can buy a cheeseburger from the trading post for 3 copper or I can buy a cheeseburger from McDonald’s for $1, but that doesn’t make the trading post a fast food restaurant.
If you’re bidding for something – it is an auction.
A buy offer is not a bid. A bit is an offer for an individual item that expires as soon as a higher bid is made, and that bid will become the buy price if no higher bid is made before the auction expires. A buy offer is an indefinite offer to pay a certain amount of money for a certain item, that can be fulfilled at any time, by any seller.
A buy offer is a bid. Just like in an auction you offer to buy the object on the block for a certain amount of money. Therefore the Black Lion Trading Post is an ongoing auction house. The auction never ends until an object is sold. If you keep offering(bidding) such a low amount for an item you won;t get it – just like in an auction.
bid·ding?bidiNG/
noun
noun: bidding
1. the offering of particular prices for something, especially at an auction.
Another Definition: Bidding is an offer (often competitive) of setting a price one is willing to pay for something or a demand that something be done.1 A price offer is called a bid.
Anyway, on the actual subject at hand – there probably needs to be an automatic function players can set that will set their offering to buy price(bidding) to go up automatically(to a limit they set) when someone out bid them. The 1 copper bump is fine as is. Many people don’t have a knack for making gold on a daily basis and they may only be able to afford small increments.
And it’s just “semantics” that’s the difference between ice hockey and football/soccer or American football from rugby.
As I said in an auction the seller simply offers the item and it’s the buyers who fight over who gets to buy it. That’s not how the TP is set up or who drives it. For buying something from a seller it’s the sellers who are fighting over potential buyers by making their item the cheapest available. That turns the auction model on it’s head.
Also the auction model doesn’t have anything equivalent to buyers requesting an item for a particular price to attract sellers. Nothing, zip, zero, nada.
It is still an auction. Just not the kind you’re used to. You just want to argue.
Whenever you place an item in TP for sale you are auctioning it off to the buyer who will pay the price you are requesting. The highest buyer, as it says. And buyers play the auction game by offering the highest they will pay for an item. It’s up to the sellers to either meet that offer or keep their item at a higher value awaiting a buyer who will pay the price they want. It’s almost a seller vs seller auction in many cases. Sellers under “bid” at times other sellers. I.E. “Lowest Seller”.
But it is still an auction no matter how you cut it. People bid and sell at auctions, the same is done on the TP.
The TP is not an auction house. At an auction, the sales price is not predetermined and an auction is limited by time.
On the TP you simply offer to buy or sell an item at a fixed price until someone agrees to your offer or you cancel your offer.
It’s still an auction, just not the normal kind you are used to. And what’s the point of arguing? I simply pointed out that it was dumb to complain when someone outbids you(happens in AUCTIONS all the time). If you’re bidding for something – it is an auction.

You can set your account to auto-raise to your specified limit. Much like botting in GW2. You still peck at the bid to outbid someone and pay as little as possible. And remember, I said TECHNICALLY. It uses the SAME CONCEPT of OUTBIDDING someone. So deal with it. Don’t try to nit-pick an example. The example is very accurate. Notice I said “try complaining”, I didn’t say try bidding one penny above. Try to reading what I wrote.
It’s just like when you bid on something from EBay. If you get outbid, you don’t get the item. Simple as that. Try complaining at a real auction, you’ll be laughed out of the building. Either buy the item outright or live with the “technically” real world style of bidding on items in GW2.
I still cannot access the BLTP or the gem store without going through several steps. I have to right-click an item to access buying and selling items – can’t access any other portion of the TP that way(still get the IIS7). To access any money from sales I have to talk to the TP NPC and then right-click an item while the window is open(showing IIS7 still). To access the gem store I have to go to the Finishers tab on my hero page and click on Gem Store. In all cases I cannot simply click on the Lion at the top or use “O” to access the TP. And once in I’m stuck on the tab I entered. Clicking on any of the side bar portions of the TP gives me the IIS7 screen and I can’t get back to the TP after that, unless I use one of the above steps.
I’ve submitted 2 bug reports on this. It will be a week of no normal access when Friday rolls around.
ANET, please come out with an official fix. Your lack of response to this is worrisome and unprofessional.
(edited by Heibi.4251)
Basically, they are now losing money. I can’t buy any gems. I’ve restarted my computer, cleared my browsing cache, and of course re-logged into the game. Fix this soon ANeT.
I would rather have ANeT put an official notice out before deleting files. This wasn’t happening when I initially logged in on Friday, then suddenly I could only access the IIS7 screen.
I fought a possible hacker last night in an enemy Bay last night. I’m a ranger, so I know the heal rate of a ranger. I rapid fired him and did various other things that got him down to 10% of his health. As another player and I(both in teamspeak) approached to rob him of his last HP he jumped off the ledge near the center bridge and his health went to 100%. Has anyone ever seen that happen? 10% to 100% after jumping, which should have killed him, is not possible. We both confirmed what we had both just seen happen. We didn’t have time to snapshot or record him. I know what his avatar looks like though. Too bad there’s no way to actually report a hacker. I think ANeT should have a login script that checks the player’s game. Any non-authorized or altered files will prevent the login and direct them to contact an admin.

Other hacks I, and other people, have seen: Flying Mesmers/Thieves and Speed Hacking runners.
Side note – I will always believe that someone who has to hack/cheat to win at a video game has absolutely no skill, much less, integrity.
I love my Kudzu and Eternity.
Now the only real question is – when the heck is ANeT going to implement the changes? I had really been hoping it was going to happen last week when the new content was released. Let’s hope it is soon.
Wait…you can’t choose it’s stats when you make it?
I don’t know. I may be wrong about that part.
No, you can’t.
However, once you unlock the skin you can use it with your current back piece that has the stats you want.
And computers being computers – this stuff happens. It’ll get fixed, just be patient.
Maybe Bubba in lock-up will straighten a few things out for him.
Finally got back into the game after much spinning of the login. Was in Dry Top for the queen skritt event. We all start going in. 90% of us were having lag issues. 20-50 or more seconds for anything to happen and then Code 07.
PLEASE FIX THIS ANET.
And even more massive lag followed by disconnects and errors logging in. Think a patch needs to be seriously considered.
It’s even hard to get Guildwiki or The forums to come up. All my other website connections are fine.
See? Patience is always a good thing. Most people knew that ANeT would eventually fix it. You just have to wait. The world did not end, the sky did not fall. And because ANeT is taking responsibility they have decided to award 100 more tickets.
Thank you, ANeT, for putting forth the effort and time it took to correct the situation.
All I did was finish the achievements and haven’t gone back. There’s no reason. The boss blitz is challenging, but not worth the time and frustration(griefers who bring trains of vets in constantly as an example).
But as it is, this was not as enjoyable as it was when they first introduced it. ANeT is basically adopting the “Thou shalt not have fun” mantra in much of the content that has or will exist.
Well, looks like ANeT “fixed” the ability to swap weapons and not keep your stacks if you actually remove the weapon. Okay, that kind of makes sense. However, here is a lack of logic to this.
I decided to experiment by getting my stacks with my harpoon gun. I got all 25 stacks and got out of the water. I kept my stacks, of course – I still have the harpoon gun in my armaments for water.
I then decided to swap out my short bow that also has the same sigil to my greatsword that also has the same sigil. Bam, stacks gone. What kind of logic does that make? I achieved the stacks with my harpoon gun, not the other two weapons. Why should my stacks go away. Please explain the logic behind this, ANeT?
I know the why, but in this case your reasons don’t match. If the other weapons didn’t have the stacking sigil, would I have been able to keep my stacks if I changed out a weapon completely?
How about making traits purchasable from the karma vendors throughout the map? You can scale the cost of each one depending on its classification: Adept, Master, Grand Master. Each costs karma and skill points.
This system would alleviate the problems created by the megaserver involving temples. I, for one, cannot get the Lyssa event done because it is never contested when I actually get in the zone. And waiting in a zone for an event that may never happen is not an option. Paying gold for a trait just because ANeT messed up and didn’t actually think this through is not an option either.
Or, for the temples themselves, put them on a world boss timer that always activates, like Jormag or Shatterer. The temple becomes contested for a certain amount of time every 2 or 3 hours. You have around 20 minutes to actually activate the Lyssa portion of the fight. After that it plays like normal.
I have a great idea. How about, since we can’t predict when the temple is ready for the event they let us purchase the traits with karma from the vendor like karma armor. That way, since the megaserver has completely messed up even trying to get the traits, we’ll be able to acquire the trait. Make it 100,000 karma and the required skill points. At least we know at that point that ANeT didn’t purposely create a gold sink at the vendor by making it nearly impossible to get a trait from an untimed, unpredictable, griefing, temple event.
Temples need hard resets every 2 hours.
No matter how well defended they are, every 2 hours risen must overrun it, and the event go back to the start.
They should also go in a 45 minute cycle.
Balthaazar->Lyssa->Dwayna->Melandru->Grenth->Gates.
So each one would reset every 2 hours, and the next one would always reset 45 minutes after the previous one, so you would always know were to go to have a chance for the event.
Agreed. We need them to be exactly like the world bosses. If you can’t be lucky enough to arrive and participate currently, you’re kittened.
Yep, I haven’t been able to do the Lyssa event ever since the megaserver has been implemented. ANeT refuses to answer us on the question of temples, or respond at all for that matter. The temples need to be placed on a timer if they are going to keep the megaserver in place. And that means automatic activation. The temples are no longer an event I can look forward to doing with friends. I can’t play my own way anymore. A promise broken by ANeT.
I still haven’t been able to do the Lyssa event, since the megaserver update, for the trait. And I refuse to pay for a trait just because ANeT misled us about the megaserver not being implemented in Orr. Either put it on a schedule just like the other world bosses or get rid of the megaserver for Orr.
I think they are starting to realize that they can grief people and some, not all, are using it on purpose to be the only one who might get a reward. And then laughing about it. Since this has become a known exploit more mesmers will and are using it.
I’ve been spike with the Lick the Wounds active, so I don’t see the problem. All classes have certain ways to avoid damage when downed , or to keep enemies away from them. In the Lick the Wounds category the pet is literally shielding you from projectiles.
Please, the thief going stealth while down and getting up, spiking from stealth(“Hey, look at me! I’m gonna spike this person with a grand, obvious, exposing move!”), and still stealthing off objects(that as supposed to be fixed) is OP. Nerf the thief’s stealth before any and all other skills.
Yep, happened twice so far when I’ve done this event. First time we were shooting and it went from 90% to less than 30% and then down. Today, the wurm was just coming up and doing its warm stuff did a spin and died. I didn’t even get a shot off like 90% of the rest of the zerg in the zone. ANeT, this is truly an exploit that needs to be fixed – and fixed fast. and the mesmers that are knowingly using it should get a 1 month ban from the game.
The true fix to this would be to not have the way points ALWAYS be contested. If the temple is open I know the Lyssa event won’t be available. If they are contested I know there’s a chance of the event I need being there. I have yet zone in, since the patch, when the event is active or the temple has been contested. The temple is always uncontested when I arrive.
PS: I am deeply concerned no moderator has yet to appear here to intervene. That no developer has peaked in to aknowledge some of the concerns brought up here.
The thread was doing remarkedly well for a long time, which is why it had little interaction from the Moderation Team. There has been plenty of debating, only a tiny bit of off-topic, which quickly got back on track.
We saw the first reports about this thread this afternoon. Thousands up thousands of posts are made every single day and although we wish we could review them all, it’s just not physically possible, so any assistance we can get from players using the report function is greatly appreciated.
All this said, we have cleaned up the thread. Please keep it on-topic and clean. Thank you!
I’m glad you kept the thread on topic. But what myself and probably the vast majority care about is a response to the OBVIOUS failings of the new system. To me it feels like devs are just letting us post and laughing at us. When a thread has so much negative feedback a response about our concerns and suggestions should be OBVIOUS to upper management. You ARE losing players – not just new ones, but old, faithful ones. Our guild lost several due to the changes.
Look at what happened to ATARI on the E.T. game just in the news. It was possibly the worst game ever made. I should know, I played it when it was released(yes, that dates me). I quickly quit playing that game and went to others that were actually well designed. The GW2 trait system needed some TINY tweaks, not a huge overhaul that created massive faults in LOGIC in a level 80 zone).
Please, ANeT, don’t let GW2 go the way of the E.T. game.
The whole issue is, people aren’t whining. Most are pointing out the major flaws in the system. Hello, Frost Gorge, on a 35lvl character to get a Adept trait? Multiple people have pointed out ways to fix the system to make it work better for new and old players alike.
Remember, ANeT, you said that GW2 wasn’t supposed to be a GRIND and that people can play the game as they like. Well, now that is gone. We HAVE TO GRIND, and we HAVE TO PLAY AS ANET DICTATES.
The most concerning thing about this now is that there is no ANeT response in the ANeT created threads on the new patch(unless it’s to warn people). ANeT, we’d like some sort of response overall on what has been posted about the patch.
The megaserver has now made it impossible to talk amongst the server about what’s going on in WvW. I was in Vigil Keep and saw players from the servers we were actually fighting, as well as other servers. The guild names area big give away. ANeT, you’ve truly messed up. We have enough problem with our own trolls dropping merchants in the WvW portals(yeah, we can use the UI) to stop quick access on reset night. Now a rival server will just have one of their own waiting and watching which guilds are going where and they can pull those stunts on their own. Again, ANeT, you truly messed up.
No Eagle Eye only gives you a +300 range. That gives you a 1500 range. You can never attain 1800. But hey, ANeT, why not give us a normal range of 1500? You do realize that no one can throw grenades further than a long bow I hope. The mechanic is ridiculous where a engineer can attain a 1500 range with “thrown” grenades. Max range for augmented thrown grenades or anything thrown should be 900 – then you can add +300.
No, 1800 range is how far you can fire the longbow from before you get “out of range” 1500 is how far you can have auto attack enabled. This has been tested since beta and the data has been all towards it being 1800 range, NOT 1500 range.
This is why LB is THE long range weapon, sure, engineer gets to 1500 range but at that range the whole advantage that Nades have are gone because the projectiles spread as they fly IE: at 1500 you don’t hit kitten unless you’re pelting a Zerg.
No it is still 1500, documented 100%. Just read the skills(1200+300 if traited = 1500). 1800 might be, but how do you truly measure distance in the game. You can’t pull out a measuring tape. I can’t target my Barrage beyond the documented range(the circle turns red can’t be used). You might get beyond 1500 on direct fire but there’s no true way to be certain. I can run behind someone firing my bow and I’ll get the “out of range” message as my arrows fly after him/her. Once I get close enough and start hitting I’m in range.
well you can dodge roll backwards like everyone else does since dodge roll moves you 300 units…
And again, the tooltip is wrong, arrows don’t despawn as soon as they reach their “max range” which is why you can hit at 1800 with EE, if you don’t believe me go kittening check it out for yourself, go up to the heavy golems, roll backwards 6 times and shoot, you’ll land your attack and deal damage every time, the only thing you can’t use at that range is barrage.
Thus, max range is 1500 if you can’t use barrage past it. The rest is residual distance that can’t be accounted for and is just plain luck. And if you can hit beyond 1500, technically that should be corrected by ANeT, since the stated range is 1500 max if you are traited for it.

ANeT, are you actually reading these, or are you just providing a vent topic that will be ignored? There are 12 pages of many very well thought out responses to the new trait system.
Quick fix for you:
First and foremost – Go back to 1 trait point per level when characters achieve the required level. Gives the feeling of progression and building a trait line.
Adept traits: Give one trait of the player’s choosing in each line for free. Then make all Adept traits available in zones of level 40 or less. Map completion should be limited to zone levels of 1-25. That gives you around 8 zones for that. No dungeons and no WVW. Or at least have an alternative for the WVW players to do the same thing and not have to do PVE if they don’t want to.
Master traits: Same idea – Give one trait of the player’s choosing in each line for free upon attaining the proper level. Same zone completion idea if you are going to use it. Nothing above level 60 zones for Master traits. And now you can use dungeons of any level up to 60 for acquiring traits.
Grandmaster Traits: Leave as is. Gives the higher level characters a challenge.
So that’s my 2 Gems worth of ideas.
Finally, that ranger in Hotm was so outdated that it was laughable. It was a mess, like many others.
They probably removed it because they need to update it.
So they removed the ranger to update it last? I feel so special.
The new version will be a target with the face of a bear wearing a dunce cap. Cause that’s how everyone, other than those of us who play one, sees the ranger class. Thanks, ANeT.

Make the runes salvaged from karma armor account bound and you solve the buying karma armor to sell the runes issue.
There should be a way though to merge the rune from say an exotic armor into a newly created ascended armor. With Fine Transmutation stones it was easy, now you need to BUY an extractor from the TP with gems to get the rune out.
This thread is not about if GvG, WvW, or PvP is good. It is about how the ranger class is being alienated and that ANeT needs to make big improvements so the class just doesn’t vanish.
