While I agree with the sentiment that this is WvW and if you don’t want to fight don’t come here, getting their rears handed to them by ‘griefers’ is in no way shape or form going to encourage anyone to stick around and play WvW. Just the opposite I think.
There is definitely some amount of truth to that, but I’d hesitate to say that much of what is going on in the JP is griefing, it is more that people unused to WvW are coming into a much deadlier map than they are accustomed to. That is the risk you take.
At least we’ve been delivered an official post on the topic, even if Devon Carter is completely wrong. This is griefing, and it only exists because the achievement list requires it. WvW players have the chance to grief these puzzle runners, so that’s what they do. This is exactly the wrong way to bring people to WvW.
I would like suggest a WvW Mentor Event similar to the daily Event Mentor. WvW nuubcakes need to learn first of all, “Don’t Run Alone”. Good guild groups can help them to learn these things.
Pit traps would be fun. There are a lot of choke points where you could put down a pit trap and kill a lot of enemy players in one shot. It would certainly counter the zergs.
Drawbridges are a possibility, to force attackers to use ranged siege. It should be an upgrade that we pay for, and players have to be there to activate them. That could buy time for defenders to arrive.
Siege towers that were moved into place were not unusual and ladders to scale walls were common. We should be able to place oil pot to counter such things.
Siege tactics can be so much fun. Sadly, I’m sure this thread will be packed off to the suggestions thread.

Dungeons, fractals, dragons, falling to their deaths from flying boats…
There is actually a lot more to this game than WvW, and a lot of people don’t like our part of the game, just like I detest jumping puzzles.
I’m not going to apologize for the fact that many don’t play WvW, but it seriously sucks when the people leaving are the biggest groups, and best commanders, and all at the same time…

Is your entire server in those three guilds?
The groups going are by far the biggest WvW guilds, and like I said, they are the best organized in terms of community services like Team Speak.
Three of our biggest guilds just announced that they are leaving the Ring of Fire. The crap matchups lately aren’t the only reason they are leaving but you can be assured it’s a big part of it.
We’re not only losing our biggest and most active WvW guilds, we’re losing some of the best commanders on the server, and our community Team Speak server.
So go ahead, put us back in the trash can tier tomorrow. You might as well.
At the moment Ascended Back Pieces only come from the Fractals. We were once told that Ascended items would be brought to all parts of this game, but Anet is dragging their heels on it. We can’t get the back pieces even from WvW rewards yet and it has been months since Ascended stuff first appeared.
Being able to craft an all stat back piece would have been a nice alternative because I really, really, hate the Fractals.
So far there doesn’t seem to be a recipe for an all stat back piece and I would like to know why not.

Well, yea, and this jumping stuff will be removed too. The point is though that they have introduced stuff that’s non-jumping for the Living Story.
The sooner this goes, the better but I don’t understand why they removed the F&F dungeon. It was universally popular, even if it was just a bit too long for my tastes.
That place also had it’s semi-JP in the weapons testing area where you had to stand in exactly the right spot and jump when the shock/dmg waves were about to hit you. That wasn’t really necessary and only served to make the whole dungeon last longer.
With Anet this stuff is turning into a formula, and the JP is always there. A lot of us are getting pretty sick of it.

World vs World is just fine thank you. The standard reason we get for no new maps for WvW is that “making maps is hard work”, but they can pull this sort of bullkitten out of their kitten every couple of weeks.

See line, count 1, dodge/evade/block. Mesmer pulls aren’t even a worry any more.
Or pop a stability skill. Mesmer focus 4 only works on nuubcakes these days.
Transfer down a few tiers. That will solve your skill lag right quick.
No it wont because you’ll just get matched up against a blob server and you’ll be right back where you started. Trust me. I play on RoF, rank 21. This week we’re playing against Gandara, rank 12.

Sure we do, but one tier difference, not 3 or 4 tiers difference. No joking RoF is playing Gandara again this week. That is rank 12 vs 21, and that is again. We played them a couple of weeks ago too.
We’ve also had Vabbi/Fow twice in the last few weeks. That’s rank 21 vs 25/26 and that is just as stupid as being rolled by blob server with a much larger population and night coverage.
At rank 21 we would be more than happy to fight anything from rank 18 to 24, but we’re not happy with the crap we’ve been handed recently. The range of the RNG is far too large.
So this is the answer to the crap match ups we’re getting these days? Dueling?
Is there any point to playing WvW at all? Or is it now just blobs rolling over the maps and then kiss and make up while we all go hang out around the windmill?

Supply trap at Cragtop just now. Stopped ’em cold. Seriously, they stopped in their tracks when they realized that their attack just failed. I can just imagine what was going on in their TS channels.
We’ve been asking for this pretty much since day one. Zero result so far.
I am fine with the chest as it is. If you gain levels regularly, you end up getting a nice sum of gold from just wvwing regularly.
You are welcome to come and play in the EU T9 trash tier. I would love to see how many levels you can make in day before getting totally frustrated with it.
the system is only broken for ranks 1-5 think about that for a second.
And the bottom tier. T8 in North America, T9 in Europe. The bottom 2 servers in each cannot offer much competition even in prime time. It turns into a boring blowout week for which ever server gets matched up with them.
I play on RoF and we’re in the Eurotrash can tier for the 2nd time in 3 weeks. One major WvW guild left our server because of it, and most of us gave up WvW last Friday night. It doesn’t matter. We’re still walking all over Vabbi and Fow.
Those two servers need to be closed.
I know it’s not much WXP but when things are slow every little bit helps, and that is the best time to do repairs. So, does WXP scale for using 2x, 3x, 4x supply per hit? Maybe even bonus WXP would be good, to encourage people to use these traits.

Why is this in the WvW forums and not in the mesmer forums?
I use temporal void all the time for speed but the second skill ITV is was extremely useful in WvW, and I rarely used it anywhere else. This nerf wasn’t necessary, and if anything it gives thieves one more chance to escape because I can’t pull them out of a shadow refuge now.
As someone else mentioned, ITV is now completely useless for any chase. By the time you can trigger it your target is way out of range.

WvW is about week long control over points for score. The fact that some of you are trying to arrange “dueling” in WvW does not change the first fact, and I’m simply not going to play WvW in the trash can tier. We’ve already won this week. Please feel free to take your ball and go home.
sPvP is about short term player vs player situations and now that we have a custom arena we can build situations that we want to see and we can be absolutely certain of no interference from outsiders. Setting this stuff up is way more interesting than rolling over 2 trash can servers, or getting rolled over by the likes of Miller’s Sound and Gandara.
Unfortunately WvW is broken. Residual server score doesn’t help to predict the next opponents, and weekly server score doesn’t do that either. IMO there isn’t much point to play WvW anymore if you cannot progress to play against better servers. A one up, one down system for match ups would be better than the garbage we’ve been handed lately and would help servers to plan their strategy at the reset.
In short, no we’re not coming to “duel” you in WvW. That’s not what it’s for, but we’re sure enjoying this new custom arena!

I want to know what makes you think it’s any of your frigging business how I spend my gaming time? If I want to go no-lifer on it and get it done so I can spend the laurels on something I want, what does that have to do with you? All I want from the system is that is doable by all players over a reasonable period of time.

Mesmer torment isn’t really going to be a thing. Scepter 2 applies torment but it actually has to block an attack to apply anything at all. If you see a mesmer raise a scepter into a defensive position just quit attacking. The only other skill is offhand sword and I don’t know a single mesmer who uses that weapon.
Necro’s with a death shroud build could be a problem but they needed a buff anyway. If you see a necro in death shroud try to get out of his range fast. The torment skill range isn’t all that large.
That’s what players wanted. Content that can’t just be done by everyone.
Not me for sure. Even if i start to sound like a socialist/communist, I’d prefer content doable by all players then this crap

I have a commercial sailing license and one of the last courses I had to take before getting the license was sea survival. The one thought that has stuck with me after all these years was a final comment by our instructor, on overloading lifeboats. “You take everyone on board because when Survival of the Fittest is the rule of the day, not many will survive”.
Gaming has a similar problem. If content is geared to the Elite players, only the elitists will remain as the casual players drift away. Is that really what players want here, or what Anet wants? I doubt it somehow.

I’m not entirely sure why you guys are complaining,..
We’re complaining because just 3 weeks ago we beat the ever living snot outta both of you, and in fact we set the new server score record while doing it.
In the mean time we’ve been rolled over by far larger servers who gave us no quarter either, but we held our ground and gained server points each week. We played hard and deserve a whole lot more than being tossed into the trash can tier yet freaking again.
Anet should simply close Vabbi and FoW, or at least remove the 2 servers from the WvW rotation. You can’t beat anybody. You simply don’t have the population to be competitive and getting pulled down to the trash can tier is disrupting the game for your opponents. Last night a large number of RoF players rage quit the game when they saw the match up, which is why you didn’t do so bad, at least for a few hours.
Honestly. Go away. Find another server. Close Vabbi and FoW!

I think everyone should get on the forums and post their opinions as much as possible, it is important for every voice to be heard (weather or not I agree, and trust me, I disagree a lot).
Unfortunately the fanboys show up regularly to drown out any critical comment, and Reddit is even worse. Some of us genuinely do not like the dungeon designs in this game and we really hate the jumping puzzles.
Everything seems to be designed around “taking way too long”, and “walking on the edge of a pin”, and then “jump at exactly the right time”. Story and Explorable modes has got to be the way to go here, if Anet ever brings out any permanent content. Seems like a big “if” to me.
Anet has had a good run so far because no other major title has been released since GW2. I played my last MMO right down to the bitter end as it imploded because of private servers. I would love to find another game to play but there isn’t much that is appealing right now.
Did you people learn nothing from the jumping puzzles and over sized characters?
I understand keep moving but you simply can’t when you suddenly can’t see where you are or where you’re going. Then the electric wall hits you. Great.
I foresee a Timesaver package in the coin mall, complete with laurels.

Fixed that for you. Focus 4 already has a fairly long cool down time. This wasn’t necessary.
Some Anet dev on his favorite thief probably got pulled out of a shadow refuge a few times and wasn’t able to stealth spike his next victim. One dev hissyfit later and this gets “fixed”.

I’ll give you a silly statement, as well. When I played my Necromancer, all my traits had been reset. I discovered this, as my skills and minions were acting wonky. So, I didn’t need to pay anything to reset.

My necro just became my main, but I’ll still play my mesmer for now.
The mesmer changes weren’t too bad considering my play style and gear. CoF1 wasn’t a problem tonight but elitists might not like the changes. Too bad for them, if they still want their Time Warp and GS5 knockback, and a bit of speed from Focus 4.
We just got a whole lot of traits changed, and at the very least the Necro GM book isn’t working. Anyone else?
For the purposes of using potions, is this walking pile of hitpoints (with regen and one shot kill moves) considered Inquest, or Undead?

Well, everyone who bought at least one rich coffer before today’s update will receive a recipe in a couple of days time. Hopefully they are tradeable, and that there are LOTS of them.
I would be willing to bet they will still be really expensive to make.
I actually like it and think it forces a little more thinking into the encounters. I would like to see a bit more balance in it though. Ele downed state means survival if there is a tower/keep nearby and the thief down state is just another get away move. Necro fear is a darn lotta fun if there is a handy cliff nearby.
Compare those to the mesmer down state…
There isn’t much reason to do that puzzle. WXP leveling and the chests give all the regular players tons of badges and siege, so why would anyone spend the time in the puzzle? Unless of course you really, really like jumping puzzles in a PvP zone, and I don’t like them to begin with.
I don’t like jumping puzzles to the point that the next game I buy? If it says “jumping puzzle” on the box I’ll put that box back on the shelf.
I also have a list of game dev names whose products I wont be buying in the future. This list isn’t exclusive to former/current Anet employees, but there are a couple of them on the list.
You never know, we could probably recruit some of these people to come play on RoF, since we don’t normally have blobby opponents.
