Mesmer, highly active in WvW. 2725 deaths in 2950 hours. 1 Death per hour on average, but….
12,525 kills in WvW, or 4.5 kills per death. I’m not unhappy about that.
I once opened a thread here saying that I couldn’t work for Anet. That thread was quietly moderated out of existence, but my point was that I really feel sorry for the designers of some of the beautiful weapons in this game.
At the time it bothered me that some really nice looking stuff was only being offered to players through an RNG coin mall box that had a really small chance to drop. All that work to design some nice looking stuff, but very few players were ever going to use those items because of RNG.
I’m now looking at Zojja’s Claymore. I have busted my kitten for over week to get this thing, playing the game exactly the way I don’t want to play, to get the mats needed to build it. While it is a beautiful item and really flashy in the right light, it just doesn’t fit with my armor and dyes, and I’m not going to change those things yet again, certainly not when Ascended armor is probably right around the corner.
So what am I supposed to do? Put a Peacemaker skin over top of this thing? I’m sure a designer will read this and crawl under his or her desk. That’s what I would do.
I’m going to hold off on that and wait for the Ascended light armor, to see what that looks like, but why can’t these weapons be dyed? At least the physical shape, and gilt works could remain and look great.
Anyway, my apologies. The stuff looks great, but this item really don’t fit in with what I’ve already built, so I’m probably going to have to change it.

A normal weapon sigil can be slotted here?
Thanks in advance. I’ll probably have my Greatsword today (dragonite… shards…) but I’m thinking ahead to my next pieces. If a normal weapons sigil can be placed in the Unused Upgrade Slot, then I’m fine. If not, I may want to keep my secondary set for their sigil effects and switch to Greatsword, or back to the secondary at the right moment.
Most likely me misreading in some way just confused at the concept of less zergs in WvW than dragons being a bad thing followed by a post on many blobs.
Blobbing hasn’t stopped, even though a LOT of players are out in PvE land farming basic mats, dragons, dungeons and (shudder) those kittening jumping puzzles.
You know it’s a crap match up when the dragon’s have a bigger zerg than WvW.
Less blobs than dragons why is this a bad thing? Loved the small scale fights so far!
Wingy, you obviously weren’t on the RoF border last night when we (RoF) took back our Hills keep. The Ranik players were fighting you in our Bay keep but they brought their BLOB back to Hills once it looked like we could actually take it.
Fortunately we had our own BLOB-buster team there, and we actually took our own Hills back.
My thanks to Anya and TaG, and NaZ, for my most successful commander run yet. Our guild normally only runs small ninja groups, so that was quite a bit of fun for all of us.
ROFL, when i see this QQ, I must seriously doubt, that certain people must have never heard something about LONG TERM MOTIVATION
I stopped reading right here. Please look up the meaning of “casual player”.
There are 5 easy to reach chests in Wayfarer Foothills as well (jumping puzzle, 2 Jotun caves, 2 Svanir caves).
I’ve noticed the Jotun chest in the potato farm doesn’t give shards. Strike one from that list.
The Hoelbrak chests seem to be variable, from 0 to 3.
Faster than then WvW supply camps, but still… so much for “no grind”.
Farm Wars 2!!! (how fun…)
You know it’s a crap match up when the dragon’s have a bigger zerg than WvW.
why defend when you can attack and get t7 mats
This is just the most recent push to zerg. A WvW player simply can’t get this stuff any other way but to join the zerg on the keeps, or hope to ninja camps in an ever running circle.
I doubt we’ll ever know why this absolutely has to be, and Anet have said they don’t like the zerg mechanism, but they keep building the WvW to encourage it.
Have some faith with developers.
You haven’t been here very long, have you?
Your not even on ROF server any more.
Excuse me? I’ll be sending a message in game.
Not enjoying this at all. Yet again we’re up against a server 5 or 6 levels higher than we are, with hourly coverage that we just can’t match. I’m not here for the open field fights and I simply refuse to follow the commanders who go for a run looking for blob fights.
Unfortunately the rewards in WvW are still wildly rewarding for the zerg, with sweet boom all for defense minded players.
The SAB page has 8 dev replies on the first page…
The SAB team has 8 devs, or more. We have one.
Good thinking 99! Wishful thinking, but still good thinking.
I wish I had written the original post, and I hope the devs are going over it line by line to see what we players are upset about. Ascended crafting is just… sick, and completely breaks the promises of the manifesto.
The manifesto is dead. Long live the manifesto!
seems very excessive. It’ll take hundreds of green salvages to acquire 10 000 luck which is barely anything after 100%..
Just the usual from Anet. You know? The company that doesn’t build grindy games.
Maybe a post in the bugs forum will actually get read/addressed.
I’m certain you’re making a joke here.
Slow Clap. Long Slow Clap.
What he said. And good to know the new tier 7 mats drop in decent quantities, too. The new crafting process really isn’t as bad as people thought it would be.
It seriously sucks donkey balls if you want to gear up alt-chars. The changes on Celestial gear, with no replacement of the magic find stat isn’t nice either.
I stopped using real money on the game long ago, and now I have yet one more reason to never spend money here. I had celestial everything and while I appreciate the account wide MF from salvaging, there was considerable investment in TIME GATED materials to obtain that stuff.
To remove one very useful stat is just crapping on players, and I agree about the boon duration. Even just a couple of percent per item would help. After all, every other bit of MF gear was given a choice for a replacement stat. But, these people don’t listen and don’t care, so I’m not at all hopeful on this issue.
Someone showed that he crafted 6 ascended weapons. Maybe you can ping it on map chat without having crafted it yet?
You can also get them as drops any place where you can get ascended materials.
My theory? The devs are sitting around a communal bonfire madly clicking on karma jugs!
What’s your theory?
In my whole time of more than 6 months in gw2 I have found I think 2 exotics, and I need to salvage them now?
Yep, if you wanted Ascended gear. Welcome to the treadmill.
It’s hardly worth to upgrade a keep now. After tomorrow, it’ll just be more zerging for trades.
We’ll know tomorrow when we all start salvaging like a mad man.
Backpieces are still missing. I bet they go into jewelry.
yeah lets make my extremely hard earned ascended fractal backpiece obsolete wooooo
The rest of us would like one too, and the fractals are the original detestable gated content.
Or are you trying to tell me that you can gather up all the materials for a Legendary Weapon (including 100% map completion) in just 2 weeks?
Nope, but what makes you think anyone will be making Ascended weapons in just 2 weeks. We still don’t know what drops rates are going to be, and it’s Anet we’re talking about here. I’m not all that hopeful about it.
Mat nodes have to move regularly or the bots will be back in a hurry.
Backpieces are still missing. I bet they go into jewelry.
A legendary still requires a lot more effort due to the gift requirements.
Materials for a legendary are not time gated. You can farm that stuff.
The hard part about a legendary is the pre-cursor.
The Crafting stations in the citadel are also a bank.
I’m glad someone did this, but it’s still depressing. You thought a Legendary was hard?
I’m saving my boxes solely because I want to play with the whole essence of luck thing and not just sell / forge the bazillion greens i’m clearly getting from them, but I’m not holding my breath on ’there’s going to be new crafting materials in them’.
That’s pretty much what I"m doing too. Getting the new MF stat max as fast as possible couldn’t hurt. Picking up a few of the new crafting mats right away would be a nice bonus though.
Ring of Fire has a pretty good scene even though we’re often matched up against higher servers. We get a fair number of compliments from our opponents and hacking complaints are really rare.
No point moaning about RoF coat tailing the other server, it’s a totally viable strat and it works well and always likely to be done in a 3 way match up system.
… and it’s certainly been done to us often enough.
I greatly appreciate the increased attention that WvW has been receiving but I feel compelled to nitpick this point.
It’s not nitpicking, it’s frustration. I don’t see too many globs of ecto dropping in WvW, but that’s how we get accessories. Badges are ignored completely, but what else do we earn?
Witty repartee aside. I think they said that they are going to but T7 mats into some of the jumping puzzle chests.
Yes, and that’s even more annoying. How about t7 mats for defending a keep or tower?
The redneck says, “Hey y’all, watch this….”
It never ends well.
Yes
Got anything official like saying this you can toss me a link to? I mean it does follow logic that they would but…
…but, we’re dealing with Anet here.
I’ve done about half of the puzzles in the game. They have nothing to do with the lore or story going on in the game. Their rewards from the chests are nothing. The only other thing you get is a few achievement points for completing them exactly once.
They are not the slightest bit interesting to repeat unless that happens to be one of the daily or monthly achievements, and even then I can often convince myself to ignore it.
Broken camera angles, walking on the edge of a pin, jumping into nothing where you can’t see your target, and falling to your death. Yeah, that’s fun? Get real.
Pfft, the last thing this game needs is more jumping puzzles.
Risen Thrall. The new Wu-tang.
This is getting old. I would gladly pay for a good WvW experience at this point. Too bad there isn’t one yet.
That’s really what this is coming to. There is no better alternative at the moment, even with a paid sub.
purely from badges would be nonsense anyway
Completely agree.
It needs to come from the ‘things’ we acquire through WvW.
While I appreciate the answer from Devon Carter that these things are coming to WvW, the question still remains “why aren’t they already there?”. How much coding is needed add a few items to a vendor? And what’s wrong with Badges only?
What exactly do we acquire in WvW? It’s seriously frustrating that Anet just gave away a metric kittenton of badges to every player in the game, but we WvW players still can’t get Ascended back pieces or accessories with those badges. What else do we really have?
The mats will absolutely drop in WvW. In addition, generally speaking, we are putting a heavier emphasis on finding long-term solutions to redressing the reward imbalance between PvE and WvW. I can’t claim they will ever be 100% equal all the time, but we would like it to never be the case that you are choosing between playing WvW and getting good rewards. The two should be one in the same.
Does this mean we can also look forward to Ascended items from WvW badge rewards? I’m talking about back pieces and accessories of course.
I’m not going hold my breath on this one.
They have been working hard lately to make things more and more accessible to WvW players, so I wouldn’t be too surprised if they make some way for you. Perhaps not initially though? IDK.
No, you really don’t know. WvW players still can’t get their hands on the crafting mats or Ascended gear that PvE players can get, and this is after one year into the game.
We’re being penalized for not doing jumping puzzles.
They’re pretty good if you’re using them for jewel upgrades. Independently though, they’re meh. I wouldn’t buy an Armor piece that has all the stats because they’re all so low due to equal distribution.
Please bring your zerker thief/warrior/necro to WvW.
I’ll bring my all-stat mesmer.
They do.. Its what people call bags in wvw, You know those things people talk about in your match up threads, How much bags they get.. At level 80 all bags will have a chance to drop T5, T6 (And nowT 7 I guess) Crafting materials.
T7 mats will be “created” from lower level mats. Do you really have enough?
Anet is talking about putting “special” mats at the end of jumping puzzles. Real WvW players don’t do jumping puzzles except to gank players from the other servers. Are you really going to get “enough” of these special mats from WvW?
Bet there will be no chance EVER of getting ascended weapons via playing WvW.
Um, crafting?
Because high level crafting mats drop Soooo…. often in WvW?
