Only a WvW player makes a feast for his team, and sets it down at the waypoint.
That’s really what this is coming down to, isn’t it?
Like Viv said there are recipes (feasts, mystic salvage kits/weapon, etc) with guaranteed results but imo the rest of it is simply not worth it. There is a reason why a lot of us refer to it as the Mystic Toilet, and it’s broken. Often all you get is kitten back.
I thought I would come back to this because our server is one of those getting rolled by last minute server transfers for WvW, but it’s turned solidly into Thief vs Thief and it’s even less interesting than before.
This game is more broken than ever. Any suggestions for something fun to do this week?
Soloed the Champion Giant Shark in Southsun Cove. No drop of course, so guess what I can’t be bothered with ever again? Honestly, has this thread not produced enough information about “perceived strange drop behavior”, or is this just exactly how Anet wants things to be?
Wayfarer Hills near the gate to Hoelbrak. I run a circle around that area and there are exactly enough mob types, about a dozen events (a couple of them you can start yourself) and plenty of collection nodes.
A miss-throwing engi can clean out the minotaur and Svanir/wolf events in less than 30 seconds and the Drake Broodmother in about the same length of time. Ulfred is good for 3 events. Shoot moa birds along the way and spam Elixir B for speed. You’re done in about 15 minutes.
Shadows in the Warp is another small but active guild in RoF WvW, but we’re also not officially in any alliance. We’re small, having fun, running events that all are welcome to join and have our own Vent channel.
All are welcome and it’s certainly not necessary to join the Alliance.

Xaoc hard at work already. Nice quick takeover on the RoF Garrison. Awesome fun.
(the defense event timer didn’t even start)
(edited by Herr der Friedhoefe.2490)
Fair enough that a server can rally PvE players to the cause, but some of this is the typical bandwagon BS that will end once paid transfer is in place. A second look at weekly scoring would be nice too, to end these weekly matchups repeating for a few weeks on end.
It’s getting just a bit too predictable.
This will go against the grain, but I thought Orr’s “density” was fine.
Yup, yer a wierdo. The place is so bad that people have simply stopped going there except for map completion or Balthazar, and even then only in guild sized groups. I’m sure that wasn’t what was intended, so it’s just another Anet fail.
At least they are addressing this issue, unlike the most common complaint in the game, the Thieves.
Nope. We complain endlessly about LFG, Thieves, etc, but apparently AoE and rezz rushing are far bigger problems. I’m not sure where these guys get their priorities but it’s certainly not from players posting here on forums.
That sort of begs the question, why have a forum?
That takeover try in the RoF borderlands last night was the perfect time for us to fight back elsewhere. WSR made a try at Bay while GH had our Hills keep. That was the last straw. We went out and took over the entire WSR borderland, and EB stuff. That should be a lesson to WSR for next week. If we see you in numbers somewhere outside your border, we’re coming to mess your kitten up. I promise.
I still think GH outnumbers us. We held you guys to a couple of spots before finally evicting you from the map but that was some good work at Spiritholme. We finally decided to just ignore you there because it wasn’t worth the work to kick you out.
They aren’t that useful outside the lightining strikes.
Veteran quaggan can be solod easily.
Not useful? That’s not quite true. Slightly advanced tactics here, but if you go for one of the keeps, kill the guards and get the doors down, it’s good timing to get the Quaagies to roll in behind you.
A Quaagie group can kill red door guards as they respawn.
I would like for the OP to be ignored, because I too play almost 100% in WvW and I don’t need to be forced into paying for even more things in WvW. It’s already a Poor Mans Game.
TL;CR? Don’t spend my gold, thanks.

Looks like RoF had a concerted effort today, or an event of some kind – some good fights, thank you RoF and WSR
Yeah, Shadows in the Warp [Warp] sponsors a weekly takeover event with various goals but we always bring banners, a feast and a lotta siege to play with. It’s just something fun for RoF players and we’re getting a following for sponsoring the event.
Today our plan was to sack the WSR Garrison and just generally be really annoying. We accomplished all of that and along the way we got stopped out at Cliffside at the very last second, helped to save Hills for RoF Owners, took over various supply camps, sacked Garrison from the water gate with only 2 golems, and then finally settled the tab on Cliffside.
After that we tried a move on the WSR Bay keep but we got a bit stalled and were run over by GH player, not Whiteside players. So we settled back to the RoF EB Keep that we’ve been upgrading all day.
We don’t often get the kind of congrats that other guilds get. We’re small and defense minded, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t know how to fight. I like to think that we’re very good at picking our fights, and winning them.
…We actually run WvW orientation courses and I have had more than 2 groups on each session in the past 2 weeks (we cover all the basics – supplies/map locations/points of interest/danger signs/siege weapons etc) so we definitely have people getting into WvW who were not previously interested.
While we on RoF still have players who think the most important keep upgrade is the second worker. Ah well, one of these days they’ll learn.

WvW was never intended to be a pure PvP zone. I leveled 3 of my characters there but I still needed those drops along the way to pay for everything and as one other thread here has said, WvW is a Poor Mans Game.

I am not enjoying this week so far. It’s really hard to spend an entire night walking the yaks in to our (RoF) EB Keep, just to see later that it’s been sacked. Seriously, I went to bed at 7am this morning.
RoF commanders have got to get better a handing out specific jobs, like staying behind to defend against the inevitable “take back try” by the bad guys. We only need to slow down that try by a couple of minutes so that the zerg can come to the rescue, and we’ll keep that point, rather than get locked into a constant cycle of capturing points over and over again.
What I’m saying is, the Zerg is not a defensive move. It’s great for wrecking enemy points, but it doesn’t help us to keep what we already own.
To the OP, you’re not asking for or suggesting anything that hasn’t been said before. Our drop rates have been pounded into the ground and that’s just how Anet wants it. I was playing/grinding the Owain karka egg event for a while last night, until my reward from the event was a grand total of 9 copper and a couple of vials of blood. That was with almost max Magic Find too.
It’s coming to the point that it’s not worth the time to play this game because we can’t progress to the rewards we’re looking for.
Another day, another thief vid, and Anet plays fiddle while the game just fades away.
Oh well….
I no longer play. GW2 is the first mmo that I did not reach level cap in. I wont go into reasons, but I played for about 3 weeks.
My question is, if you are still playing, what are you doing? What do you do on a daily basis?
Thanks.
Doing the daily pve on my last character that I’m not going to power level in WvW. I do the daily pvp with my mesmer, and the rest of my gaming time is WvW, which is getting a bit old.
Late in the week I do a bit of grinding to take advantage of the WvW bonuses, but even those get hit with the DR hammer and I can’t see myself doing any farming because of it.
To be honest, if I could find something else that I would rather play? I would already be there. Anet has sucked a lot of the fun out of this game.
Now you were wrong twice Sir.
First we had to push back WSR from inner gate of our hills, so it’s hardly lack of any action.
Later, [TaG], [HxH] and [NaZ] had a pretty successful campaign on WSR border that ended up on taking over half of it, including bay and garrison, which we stole from GH.
So no, it wasn’t just ICON playing (ofc, I appreciate all the work they did
)
Why does [Warp] get missed in this? We’ve owned Garrison since the reset and we’ve been playing defense on the RoF borderland ever since. Except for one breakout event on Sunday night we pretty much haven’t left our borderland and we’ve tossed out a ton of siege.
Someone has to play defense and this week that has been [Warp].
I didn’t say the NPC breakout event causes material to go POOF, but I’m not sure why it has to go at all. We’ve been putting siege down because we’re in a very tight match and know the bad guys will use the breakout event. It is seriously annoying to run to save a tower just find that your material is gone.
Don’t get me wrong, I like these breakout events but why can’t we do a reasonable amount of work to prepare for them? The spy types will do what they do no matter what, so why does this have to affect us?
1 treb in the nearby castle focused on the tower at all times means it’s easy to take the tower back after the event as long as you watch for counter trebs and no where that counter location is.
This is a part of my original complaint! Our trebs despawned too! Why?
@OP, Siege will get destroyed by lightning strikes if you don’t control the center island in a borderland.
Yes I know. Our guild owns Garrison in our borderland. I’m constantly on the Quaggies.
What about Durios guard not spawning with the proper faction ?
That’s a feature!

You know that a guild can only own one point in WvW?
A lot of people in our guild didn’t know that until last night when one guy tried to claim a supply camp, “just for fun”. He was a bit miffed that he couldn’t because he does have a commander tag. I pointed out the facts to him, including the fact that we own Garrison on our borderland.
That’s why only a very small group of people should be able to claim fort/tower for a guild. Starting buffs? No problem, but also reserved to a slightly larger group of active WvW players, including that commander.
Ok, it is game breaking. They still don’t care.
What are you talking about?
Have you ever tried to defend against a breakout commander? Do you even know what that is?
What is the frigging point of building siege and getting set to defend against the breakout NPC just to watch the stuff disappear when the bad guys get their kitten together and start that event?
Ah, just one more thing that’s not much fun in this game.
Bug. Submitted a report about it in beta, with screenshots. Still not fixed. Probably lost in the slew of other reports.
I’ve reported it a couple of times. It’s not game breaking, so they don’t care.
Retired Scuba Instructor Trainer. Underwater spearfishing combat and the 3d environment doesn’t bother me in the least, and here’s a pro tip. Bonus XP is based on how long the mob has been alive. I love killing kraits in the WvW lakes. 1K XP per mob doesn’t suck.
You guys aren’t going to let us sleep tonight, are you?
The first to give up, is the first to lose! But that still isn’t going to let you off the hook!
Everyone is complaining about this, and yes it makes the thief problem even worse. What a clever plan to kitten off the very few active players we still have on this server!
In even simpler terms, we players have been asking for an in game lfg system for a couple of months. Anet is ignoring the issue.
To the WSR thief team who kept our (RoF) northern camp for a while tonight….
I welcome you to the meta-game. We all know that a thief is hard to kill solo, and obviously a group of thieves who take over a supply camp and build siege will be ridiculously difficult to kill. So we ignored you.
I sincerely hope that you died from boredom, because that’s what the thief issue is coming down to. I have no interest to deal with you, and when I know you’re there, I won’t be going there.
I hope Anet is listening here, because enough is freaking enough with the thieves.
In reality, people do not have that much of an issue with thieves.
Yes we do.
When talking about probability vs luck we have to keep in mind that when we’re dealing with such low probabilities for success, it’s starts to feel like luck.
I pretty much refuse to play any game that way. There is no set means to gain everything needed for a particular Legendary so I’m simply not going after one. This will undoubtedly shorten the length of time I play this game, and help me to decide if I ever buy any expansions. I’ve already decided I’m never spending money on the coin mall.
The negative comments aren’t just on this forum. All of the unofficial places are getting the same treatment with the various fanboys fighting back. Many guilds have their own chat and forums and from what I’ve seen this latest move isn’t being well received.
Edit: And as Zid just said, a lot of guild rosters are inactive, so any negative comments are being made by the people haven’t already given up.
In game is different. People there are doing something they like, like WvW or dungeons, or the Fractals. Outside of those people there are large number who are seriously reconsidering if they still want to play this game.
Edit: Frankly a group of players have been punished for doing what players do, looking for ways to make some gold, and this in a game where our options are deliberately being limited. These early adopters to the game market have been labelled early exploiters and IMO that’s just plain wrong.
(edited by Herr der Friedhoefe.2490)
8 dailies of Fractals for 3 rings? No thank you, at all.
So when are these things coming to WvW? I have tons of badges ready to turn in for better gear.
I think a lot of people are suddenly looking for anything else to do. Based on recent events I don’t think any upcoming patch is going to fix anybodies attitude, not the players, and not Anet.
Obviously I have no proof except for the monotonous precision with which some of these guys can shoot. Some of these guys are so predictable I can actually dodge roll exactly when the next shot is coming in, do the repair and dodge roll out of the way again just before the next shot comes in.
The shooters are usually in a spot in the castle where you can’t shoot them back so they are sometimes there for hours. It’s easy pickens for XP, karma and a bit of gold because you just have to repair a bit and every 3 minutes you finish a defense event but it’s still annoying to have to be repairing against what must be a bot.

TBH I think it’s a joke they are making monthly achievements so kitten easy. Just entering the puzzle, and not having to finish to score the monthlies. If you ask me they can make the monthly achievements a bit more difficult.
Fortunately, nobody asked you.
I don’t want to do any jumping puzzle ever. Anet is using this to encourage people who are interested to go and find them. I’ll be using all 5 of my characters to go “find” all the puzzles I already know about. Embrace Sweet Simplicity.
To the OP: Read the most recent article (isn’t it?) on sPVP: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/structured-pvp-iceberg/
That article is almost 3 months old and much has happened since, including the November 15 patch.
has Anet said anything recently or done anything recently to lead you to believe that they will do something in the near future to promote GW2 as an e-sport? in your opinion
They haven’t said a thing about improvements, or balance, or the thief issue and to be blunt I doubt they will do anything in the near future. I get the impression that Anet is pretty happy with the product they’ve put out despite what players tell them constantly.
Leveling in WvW is pretty quick if things are busy. Level 80 really isn’t that hard to reach.
Being the completionist freaks that we are, me and a buddy decided we were going to get this done. We both get distracted easily though so it has taken a while. Now that it’s done we both have some impressions to share and if you don’t want spoilers, don’t read any further.
First off all the stories send you all over the maps, so if you’re trying for map completion too, the personal story line is a good way to start. I mentioned that we can get distracted? You’ve been warned.
Next, the individual chapters of the story are highly variable in difficulty and we both had to ask for help at times. Often we simply bagged it and went to level up, get better gear, then go back and try again. Food and artificer potions were also a big help at times.
Later we discovered that if we were doing the exact same story, at the same level we both got credit for completing it, which simplified things a lot. We just waited until we both had time and did a bunch together. Last night late we finished the second to last quest, but it was late.
So today was the day. The day to go and kill the big boss dragon, which unfortunately came down to spamming “2” to kill the dragon. We’re both underwhelmed. That was it? The big ending? We’re Saviors of Tyria because we can spam one key? And this was after almost 2 hours, so long that we had to finish with 4 people after 1 dropped out, because it simply took too long.
Seriously underwhelmed.
(I’m not a fan of the dungeons to begin with, but Anet, you’ve got to tone down the HP on the bosses, and develop an in-game lfg system. Not everyone can play for hours at a time.)
The rewards in the dungeon weren’t that great, but I think we’ve all gotten used to the low drop rates around here. I got one yellow item for all that time spent so I doubt I’ll be going back there except to help guildies finish their story. The rewards from finishing the story also weren’t that great. As some people here have mentioned you can get better loot from some of the jumping puzzles.
So anyway, I’ve got 4 other character but now that I have at least one in each of the Orders I doubt that I will go any further on those story lines. Anet, I hope you’ll take these comments as constructive criticism, but I know there are higher priorities than re-writes on these stories.
Spoiler Warning
After all that I would like to ask if we can can somehow re-stage the entrance to Fort Trinity. There is a a particular scene cut-away that would make for an awesome personal wallpaper. To be honest, that alone would be the most unique item in the game. A personal wallpaper. I would make prints of mine. I wasn’t fast enough on the screen shot key.
Thanks for listening.
(edited by Herr der Friedhoefe.2490)
Breakout events can be beaten, you just have to be there with sufficient numbers, just like any defensive situation in this game. Unfortunately, most people in this game don’t like to play defense.
As for the claiming and upgrading of these southern points? Well, yeah. There never has been a reward for owning and upgrading a fort and now there is even less reason to do so.
Gating -
FOTM is obviously gated to appease the progression crowd. The same could be accomplished by doing two things…
Do Not Bring Gating to WvW, Thank You Very Much.
