If you want to stomp a thief, just spam AoE where he is or use ranged attack while he is visible. Quickly change target if he uses shadow escape. If he enters stealth during stomping, just continue to stomp (repress F), you will stomp that thief.
Thief Stealth breaks target and lasts far longer than Mesmer, and I’m just basically up to my eyeballs with all thieves, so I’m not going to tell you L2P.
Teleport/Invis on a Mesmer does squat all to help you stay alive in any zerg situation. After the first move you just aren’t that hard to find, and it’s really rare that you ‘teleport’ anywhere near someone who has time to rezz you.
Thief still needs a team to stomp/AoE, but they all still tell you l2p. It’s a great situation we have here.
And Anet does nothing.
I really hope this doesn’t turn into just another blow out week for RoF, even if we’re winning.
Anet can properly test them for better cool down times, and in the mean time the vendors can quit selling the items.
Some fields are pretty obviously, others are less noticeable and a lot depends on your graphics settings and where you are playing. If you’re lagging out in the Eternal Battleground and you’ll never see one.
Also, there are still plenty of heroes who will happily use a knockback or pull on a mob, kicking the mob out of the field. That doesn’t always help, but try to tell them that.
So that you can learn who the players are that give you the fields to use. You should watch for those guys and learn how to line up on their fields and mobs in/behind the field.
My main is a mesmer and I drop LOT of fields. I see the name of the combo effect on the finisher of the combo. Now I know who the smart players are who line up to use my fields.

So like everyone else here a number of my achievements were reset to 999/1000 stuff. Who knows why it happened, but I now have proof that the “player kill credit” thing isn’t working properly and is probably responsible for a lot of the complaints about drops and such.
I was running around absent minded killing things when my Staff kill count went to 1000 and I got my 5 achievement points of course. No problem, right?
I was playing my flame-throwing maniac engineer.
I wish I had written this, but I couldn’t have said it better.
I completely agree the OP and his points.
“Only a WvW player has 10g in the bank and thinks he’s rich”.
(edited by Herr der Friedhoefe.2490)
I’ve seen all sides of this argument because we play in the lower EU servers but we pretty much always own something in WvW. IMO, players in this game are either completely STOOPID, or they are spies playing for the other side. Either way, you can beat them at their own game.
First of all, you and your guild must claim the spot you want to own and upgrade. It must become a point that you love and want to protect. It really should be a spot close to a waypoint too, so that you can all get back to your fort quickly if it comes under attack. For smaller guilds I recommend “Cliffside” on your own borderland, or Veloka Slope, Langor Gulch, or Aldon’s Ledge on the Eternal Battleground, depending on your color for the week.
The down side off all of these towers is that each and every one of them has only one supply camp for supply. If you claim one of these spots you’ll have to be there to protect your fort and your supply camp too, particularly while you build any upgrade.
On the plus side, for those Eternal Battleground towers, the keep nearby has mortars that can also be used to defend the named tower gates. Learn to use those mortars.
For a medium sized guild with good 24 hour coverage I recommend the Garrison on your own borderland. Everyone will rush to defend the Garrison when it’s under attack but you as the owner will have to do the work to upgrade and defend 3 supply camps too, and you will have to be there during the upgrade process. This is where we defeat those incredibly STOOPID players, and the spies.
Get your guildies together and camp your supply points. Build siege in those camps. It really does work, but it costs. Upgrade your supply camps, and walk with your yaks. Even if your guildies get stomped on a yak at least you know where the bad guys are, and you have a good idea where they are going.
If you have a guild that can do what I’ve just described, here is where it gets really good. First off, advertise that you have claimed your keep in map chat. Tell everyone in map chat, “we’ve got it, we’ll build it”. That alone will keep the dingbats away. Dingbats aren’t going to spend gold if they know that the tower/keep owner is on the job. The spies will still show up and try to build stuff you don’t need, so beat them to it.
Early in the Garrison building process you’ll need guildies in supply camps, walking yaks, but also building the oil pots in the Garrison. The early plan is, don’t waste any supply coming in. Build what you can, and with upgraded supply camps and guild guards on the yaks, a lot of supply will come in. The plan is coming together.
With each upgrade the total supply in a tower/keep is increased, so use the supply as it comes in. If your guildies are on the job your supply will be coming in faster than you can use, and this is when you buy merchants, and services, and last of all, that Second Worker.
TL;CR? Upgrade the supply camps and defend them. Guard the yaks, and upgrade merchants and services when supply is maxed and yaks are coming in.
In short, you decide when to upgrade and don’t leave it to the dingbats or the spies.
NA servers seem to use a lot more upgraded siege than what I’ve seen on EU servers. I don’t know why that is.
Actually, a couple days later I’m not really enjoying this matchup. Our larger guilds are MIA and one of the commanders told me last night that we should be grateful for his presence.
These people show up for a couple of hours, cap a bunch of points and play exactly ZERO defense. That isn’t going to ever win the weekly score and to be honest I think these guys just want to show up and play the hero, daily, and have no real interest in winning anything.
This even happens in the lowest EU tiers. EB regularly has long lags and it is even worse in Lord’s room of the castle.
Stupid question really, because I’m sure Anet already understands this, but I’ll play along anyway.
Hello, NO!
i don’t care about dueling but i don’t see why they don’t introduce it in heart of mists, somewhere near those training dummys
Very clever in your placement ideas. Congratulations. I like it.
Are you guys actually serious? You don’t want dueling because it’s “annoying”? Wow… WOW…… What, you really think you’ll get spammed with duel invites every 2 minutes of gameplay? How is it that every other MMO has this feature then, and there aren’t people clamoring to have it removed because it is “annoying”?
Because we left those games, and most of us have no problem with dueling, just lets not have it in open world content. It would be easy to set up a new browser and instance maps complete with room for spectators so the people could enjoy dueling, as a part of the Mists. I imagine plenty of guilds would run their own guild events there, except that Anet want’s to rent that server space.
So anyway, let’s not have dueling in open game play, or at least give me the first option to opt out, and an easy option to ignore people who want to duel.
(20 days for an amulet +50 to 60 days for 2 rings) x 5 characters. More for anything else you might want there, while the fractal monkeys are tossing stuff away.
Equal rewards for everyone playing the game how they want to play. Nice idea.
It’s a much more even matchup this week. Way more fun.
Poor Quaggans
But… water is wasted space, cause nobody likes underwater combat
I love underwater combat, probably you hate it, and are not all that good at it.
Mesmers rock in underwater combat.
WvW is also good for levels and skills points. I have almost 400 on my main WvW character even though I’ve spent a bunch to make superior siege items. I also used a bunch to buy feast recipes at the mystic toilet. At least that recipe always works.
I don’t mind playing the game for my Ascended gear.
How about, “Ascended Gear in WvW”?
Man, what a concept. Equal rewards for playing the game my own way!
But we can’t have that.
The point of the OP was “when”, which none of us can answer.
Obtaining Ascended gear in WvW is another big “when” question, and there won’t be an answer any time soon. New titles and possibly achievements for defending in WvW (rather than zerging all the kitten time) would also be nice, but also wont come any time soon.
It’s all quite frustrating to watch these things being kicked down the road.
I have no problems dodge him at all. In fact, I wave at him every time I walk right past him.
Anet doesn’t want to kill the servers with another group event, so they’re killing player brain cells with boredom, as if sPvP wasn’t bad enough.
(edited by Herr der Friedhoefe.2490)
Theres still a whole week to go, but as of now, Ruins of Surmia is 1st place in tier1 for next week… lol… From lowest to highest tier in just a few hours :P
In before Ilesyt!
Anet must just love a kittenstorm, because that’s where the new scoring system is going. After all, players just love weeks on end of blowout after blowout….
Ilesyt, I have seen where Surmia has been for months now. I tried to tell you, oh so long ago that zergmaster style would never win the weekly server matchups.
I’ve been looking for the DEX emblem on a keep or tower, just so that I could take it.
Do you ever claim a spot?
Nah, I’m enjoying this too much, especially after the way you parted.
Point of Order: My Quote here contains the original post. Yes, I was previously a member of DEX on the Surmia server. I left on my own account, for good reason.
I left DEX and Surmia months ago. Actually, I left within a day or two of you getting control of the guild. Since then you personally and the server have achieved nothing.
You’re crowing now because other, much more capable guilds have joined Surmia?
Free server transfers should never have been a thing, no matter what the situation with server guesting.
(edited by Herr der Friedhoefe.2490)
Ilesyt, please take a week off from the forum. You didn’t build this.
I am not looking forward to a week of zero reward WvW or PvE, and I’m not going spend my time in the fractals or dungeons (except for the monthly).
Take over an sPvP browser channel just for guildies and kill for fun and bragging rights.
Take over a supply camp in WvW and defend it with a mix of regular and superior siege. There are a few supply camps that can be turned into an awesome kill box with only 10 people defending.
Dungeon story line runs and/or personal story stuff. If people are at the same level in the personal stories you can do them together, exactly once. It’s a nice way to get them done fast.
Map completion. Champion bosses, or open world chests.
There’s lots to do here. Now if we had a reasonable drop rate for the time spent…
I would also like to know why we don’t have solo dungeons in this game, dungeons that take 30 minutes max! Having said that though, this has to be the mildest Monthly since the start. There is no WvW participation or kill requirement at all.
I’ll get this one done in 5 days, max! (and I hate dungeons…)
5 Forum Infractions in 1 day.
All my characters should just avoid combat from now on, since it is so unrewarding.
See, this is why grind is bad for a game. A grinder is willing to play through anything as long as it gives a reward.
So Fractals really should be removed from the game. Many people don’t find them to be the least bit fun, but they continue because of the reward. Go ahead, reduce the fractal rewards to the level of PvE rewards and see how fast that part of the game dies…
A normal player would play because a game is fun. As long as the combat were fun, a normal player would play; if the combat were not fun, the player would ask combat to be changed so it’s fun.
Cool! WvW players are doing it right! So, where’s the reward for doing it right? These days many WvW players can’t even pay for keep upgrades or equipment repairs.
I’m all for what the OP is saying here, over and over again.
Our guild has been camping on Queensdale since the Behemoth event is running regularly. We’ve gotten a couple exotics, a few more rares and the usual junk.
Nothing remotely like Final Rest has appeared.
I think we’ve been trolled (yet again) by Anet.
A lot of the Wintersday skins are still available on the trading post for cheap prices. Halloween stuff is a lot more expensive. Just search on the word “skin” in the trading post.
Hills was by far my favorite place to claim until the NPC commanders were brought into the game. Those guys along with bandwagon guilds moving from server to server have made that place a bad bet lately. Half of your supply is constantly under threat and it’s not hard for a small group to disrupt your supply coming from the north too.
The band wagons have lost their wheels though so now we just have to wait it out until server populations settle down for some better match ups.
I certainly hope so because it’s hard to get excited about 1 laurel per day. Getting alts setup with ascended gear will turn into yet another grind and I’m not sure I can stand more of it. The rewards for PvE achievements still isn’t even close to the rewards from fractals or dungeons, and we still have no rewards in WvW.
Also, the only reason why the daily achievement have been acceptable is that you can do them fast, and solo. By trying to bring us a combo finisher achievement it’s obvious that Anet doesn’t understand this.
Go stand in front of a karka. Dodge whenever you can.
I didn’t do a lot of dungeons in the first place because they are simply too hard and take too long, and this doesn’t sound like an improvement. I guess it’s too much to expect that we’ll ever get solo dungeon modes. Oh well.
A small group can turn certain supply camps into a kill zone in a very short time and at the same time you distract that enemy zerg so yours can slam a point hard.
Just going in to flip the Quaagies can interrupt a zerg vs zerg fight while everyone freaks that their waypoint is suddenly contested.
There is lots for small guilds to do.
As of writing this you have the castle, but points-wise UW is in the lead, and we’re in 2nd place. I’m sure we can fix that minor detail about the castle, but we’ll leave that to ICON. It’s what they do.
I’ll be leading my group out to the UW borderland tonight.
You haven’t seen me do anything tactical because I normally lead our guild against the higher level server, because that’s the place to pick up server points. We went on the offensive last night and that’s where we set up the badge farm.
If Surmia gets ahead of RoF in points, you’ll meet me. Maybe next week, unless Blacktide does another sudden move.
Thanks UW for the good fights tonight on your BL! (and dozens of badges aswell)
Shadows in the Warp takes great pride in turning a supply camp into a badge farm, and we don’t need to run to the bugged invulnerable point.
The funny thing about this post is that this same guy was posting last week that Surmia was headed to Tier 4/5 with the population that they have. I was reading the posts from the “Blacktide Alliance” and I actually got worried about them. (I play on RoF these days).
Now that the weekday routine has set in we’re all in the process of kicking Surmia back down the stairs and it wouldn’t surprise me for a moment to hear that the Blacktide Alliance uses their absolute last chance to move yet again.
Nothing personal Ilyset, but you guys just aren’t that good.
The RoS numbers aren’t anywhere near as big as what I had expected. Even with the surge at reset they haven’t steamrolled us like Gunnar’s did last week, and probably can’t.
Speaking of which, Gunnars is rolling over their Tier and will probably move up a couple of tiers next week, while Blacktide is still in freefall. The way things look right now T8 will remain unchanged for next week, but Blacktide is the joker. How low can they go?
Chain portal Golems to the underwater gate, in stealth mode. You just need a couple of mesmers teamed with thieves and some smart golem drivers. Mesmer Time Warp helps too.
Seriously, I’m surprised people haven’t been leaving in droves over this issue.
People have been leaving in droves over this issue. Time spent vs Reward just plain sucks donkey balls in this game, and while the donkeys might like that…
Hey Wasabi, I regularly run the Southsun Cove events, and get hit with DR in about 10 minutes. Have a nice day.
(edited by Herr der Friedhoefe.2490)
Simple answer here: Quit grinding and go do the things you want to do.
The things many of us want to do don’t provide the drops needed to even finish crafting all crafts to 400, never mind put a bit of gold in the bank. Think WvW. This is what we’re complaining about. The game is heavily biased in favor of a couple of activities (Fractals and Dungeons) when it comes to loot.
Why are the rest of us wasting our time here? (because we’re still looking for another game).
Treating 1 player better than another is what is killing this game fast. Reread your manifesto and pre release marketing material and return to what was promised.
That got thrown out on Nov. 15th with the introduction of Ascended gear, only available in a level based dungeon. I guess you didn’t get the memo?
The manifesto is dead. Monetization is the new manifesto.
