Just curious, would really love to see the direction of the game and what you have in store for us.
Missed last year’s, but watched the panel online.
(for the record, I don’t know if search is broken, but searching up pax brought back 0 results)
They won’t hit 75% on removing it. They just don’t want Alpine to go either. So long as Alpine is always an option most people would be happy. For the remaining people who enjoy DBL, they have a place to roam free. I can’t see why building up WvW interest in populations is a bad thing, it will only benefit both parties.
Yes, yes it would.
By now, everyone has at some point seen a decline in WvW population activity outside of reset night. We need to do more things to spark interest in many people, not just one group or the other, or this game mode is done. WvW has been heading in the right direction mostly, but active populations are not increasing. Says something about the game. I’ll be happy to screen cap map Queues from T1 NA throughout the week at primetime.
My estimate would look like this:
Friday – queued
Saturday EBG + 1 BL queued
Sunday – Thursday – no queues
NA T1.
Tomes are Account bound on acquire
My support is for the longevity of WvW. I don’t see it ever growing while remaining stale with the alpines. While my personal prefence is for me to play on the Alpines or EBG, I would rather support bring in more maps to provide options. Who knows, maybe one day I will like DBL. Maybe providing avenues for all players who play WvW is the right decision. We sure as hell are not filling up the maps with only DBL’s or only Alpines. And I’m in t1 NA. Been in since BWE1 on my other account, and to be honest, we can all run alpine blind folded by now.
Also, if we, as a community show support for the effort and work the company is putting in, we may be able to get into a position where we may get a new map every few years. Hell, I’ll throw gems or cc if it will give WvW half the attention pve players get.
Tyler deserves to go have a beer in peace now, I think many of you could use one too.
Will look forward to having another round of polls coming. The DBL GTFO – (which I hope fails as you need variety for longevity, does not mean you need to enter, but some like it), and the squeal to this one. Hopefully by the time they run live, everyone understands the impacts and weight of their vote. (let alone understand the vote)
Appease both parties by providing choice… this was the answer. You could participate in your map of choice any day of the week….
Oh wait a minute… now you may play your map for a quarter, or effectively half of the year. The other half… too bad.
Guess we should have pushed harder for those “yes” votes.
Our team had a round table today at work. It was great, we thought of a new direction we really wanted to take this initiative. Everyone was so excited… we drafted up a memo and shared it out across our business. There was a resounding applause to follow suit on our direction, a whopping 715 customers out of 1000. We all sat back, and said ‘hey, this is legit, we are making traction’ Let’s stick handle this baby through execution.
Just before the days end the boss came in. He gathered us around, and said ‘hey guys, I have spoken to the stakeholders, and they decided not to go in that direction. I know you were excited, there was a lot of energy and buzz going on. But we’ll just carry on as is…. oh and half of you are fired’
My friday fun, can’t wait till beer and cake time.
Add filter to your chat filter, or report and block. It doesnt happen overnight but eventually they get suspended, and come back and get suspended. And if they keep it up, suspension will turn to a ban.
Just remember the original ‘mouth breather’ from kaineng (no offense to the server, I loved my time there)… was set as a precedence. Some people like to troll others, gives them some amusement, but in order for any corrective action to take place… you need to give them a heads up. Anet filters or data can only provide so much. There is no job description having a real person look over every chat log on every map, its scripted.
Hitting the guys in the BL’s grinding it out against opponents will get the real active players. I bet a large % of them, did not vote. Looking forward to the in-game polling – or heck place a npc with a story mode star over his head in the main keeps.
I like the random comments you get in the various hangout areas, like the girl at the bank who keeps telling you to live for the moment! or Let the stars guide you
Team A needs 4 points to win
Team A scores 3 points
Team B scores 1 point
Team B wins
Is this some form of flawed soccer logic that places losers above winners for scoring 1 goal when they are away?
It will be interesting to see the results of that poll. If dbls are voted to be destroyed, I highly doubt if we’ll see any new wvw lands for the remainder of this game’s life.
….
I just don’t think we will see any major use again of resources towards WvW in the way of new lands. That extensive amount of funds and workforce could be used in PvE or PvP areas of the game that have a far better chance of a good return on the investment.
This.
If I own a company, and said company spends ‘x’ $ and ‘y’ time on creating new content for the community, realize I maybe got a 3 out of 10 rating from the larger % of critics (while some love it and gave 10/10) …
If it got voted down, I would basically close the door on that game mode and focus on the guys providing my company income.
It’s a scary line to draw, and could have negative impacts on the overall future and health of this game mode.
To be honest, we should have opted harder to have them split the WvW maps and pass that vote. It would be a stepping stone towards getting 3 different BL’s which, likely would offer a wider scope of gameplay, and draw people to the lands they prefer to play on.
If we all like EB, would having 4 EB maps be fun? no …. we may as well just have one map. We should look at any options that will bring in a broader player base to WvW. It’s good for the health of the game.
No to RNG precursor drops. That’s vile; players shouldn’t be unevenly rewarded for their spent time in the game just because they hit a jackpot.
I’ve been here since early beta and I have YET to see a single precursor drop in all my playtime. I don’t want a repeat of that with HoT legendaries.
^^ … this.
BWE1 with friends… excluding the Karka weekend precursor give away event…. I’ve only ever seen one precursor drop to a guildie in WvW about a year into the game.
I’d rather waste my hours putting in work to attain a goal, then play a game and wait for my winning numbers to show.
Thank you, +1 to you for helping me
PPT – Point per tap
Just gonna leave that there
I want a foreign exchange vendor where I can transform one currency to another. Just to reduce the amount of leftover foreign bills I have from each new vacation (map)
I was going to recruit my guild from another game to our server to play WvW, but not point in getting them to get HoT if linking can/will change. I would be fine with having them join the lower pop server linked, but if it’s a temporary thing, then there really is no point in them wasting their money.
I’m on t1 server, and tbh …. WvW has been hit or miss lately. Some days, it’s very active and lots of communication, other days its like you walked into an episode of walking dead.
I totally get nervous around them. I just lose all sense and patience, and turn into this 4th gear wannabe parkour pro – who inevitably fails over and over.
Then I see others who are like dancing through the JP at the speed of light like it’s no big deal.
To each their own
Personally I liked the original heroes… not a fan of the current team. But evolution and stuff … lives must be lost, heroes born, books must be made, and stories told.
I choose Dragon’s Watch because I want more Dragon’s. Or this Glint 2.0 to hatch, grow and provide us some real legit ascension.
Why do you want kittens?
Enemy major attacks have tells… generally in the form of huge red circles that appear before they land. The only attacks that don’t show are auto attacks like the tiny pocket raptors who jump at you, hit you, and run away, rinse repeat.
Perfect solution to those who want the t3 and upgrades removed.
Go to a big open area with no objectives … and fight. The map would be empty, to focus solely on the fights. Oh wait, they made that area already in the obsidian sanctum.
Desert BL will be in whether you like it or not. There is a player base who do enjoy it, and Anet spent way too much time/resource creating a map that they will not just throw away. Just choose not to enter that map. I personally prefer the alpine BL’s but that is solely based off of the wealth of experience I have on them. I will likely still chose to play on alpine BL’s, over Desert BL’s … but I won’t disregard that there is a playerbase out there who enjoy the opposite. I may not speak for them, but they speak for themselves when they place there votes.
Side note: Create a Santa Claus chartacter in preparation for legendary hobo-sack.
Already a character with that name. I see him in LA all the time, and his armor /outfit looks amazingly christmasy—- errr should I say wintersdayish
name was – Sánta Claus
I believe
There is a fairly hard split between those who are alpine all the way, versus those who actually liked the desert BL’s. Having both available will/should only increase the WvW pop by offering both player bases a map they enjoy. To each their own I say.
Back on topic, I love this idea. Community driven, for a third map… which of course with change, will come with protest, until people get used to it over time. I think it’s a great idea to put it out there to the community, even if it never went further than that and Anet/ncsoft decide nope, we won’t make it. Getting the creative hats on will sure be a nice break from wearing the tinfoil ones.
This is great !! You can cry all you like siege huggers this is just the start…..
Every time you call a defender a siege hugger I will kill 5 of your zerglings trying to get back to the blob. This is just the start.
Typical reply from a no skilled siege hugger. I dont run in blobs cause my server doesnt have them in my timezone….. you will have difficulty killing 5 “zerglings” as that is almost the entire “zerg”…
Typical reply from a commander too cheap to supply the siege required to take something.
There are other means to accomplish the same. PvDoor should not impact a hardened gate period. You want that gate down faster? Drop another sup ram/cata
You seriously think its fun to scratch at doors? Yeah pretty epic skill bro
I thought the hardened gates were fine as well. Some of the most epic moments can be earned when you and two to three others are holding a tower against an enemy zerg.
I don’t get this approach, to whom is the benfactor, I’m trying to understand if this is better for small groups who are having trouble taking a tower, and require pvd power to finish it? Or if its meant to deter defensive scouts? Or some how try to add more defensive scouts? I am trying to understand this, does anyone have any information why they made the change?
Those F buttons are OP, I mean, successfully completing the event is fine an all, however I find the chasing down and opening of the chests a pain in the butt.
And to the person who mentioned the loot pulls 15% off the value of gold because of the TP, you should be doing your calculations based on vendor pricing, and anything above is bonus money. So if an item sells for 2 silver vendor, but 3 silver TP, you still make like 55 copper additional.
My issue with silverwastes, is the only people I ever see in there, are few and far between, and generally just running their characters to the HoT entrance. Presently I’m working on collecting some bandit crests, but it’s slow going taking outposts with only 1 person. I made 60 crests in 2 days which to me seems like a terrible waste of time. Wish I knew how to find a busy silverwastes map. Is there a time of day that people actually play on it?
it’s about 75g per piece for heavy atm. You can check it out others too.
Example. Zojja’s Breastplate
http://www.gw2spidy.com/recipe/7940
Don’t forget the 100g to level your craft from 400-500. So it’s closer to 100 +( 75 × 6) gold
What’s that like 550g total?
Ah, I see, so the laurel vendors need to be updated. Okay thanks.
Nothing beats flying man, I mean it. Glide, updraft, jumping down hundred foot drops deploying the glider and skimming across the water, under the bridges. AB meta money maker? I mean, seriously opened a whole new look at the game for me.
I enjoy WvW most, but hands down I have enjoyed what I got for HoT. I don’t care about legendary precursor crafting, or collectible items, but I enjoy the new experience. It’s good to take some time off the WvW grind and play in autopilot for a bit.
Only thing I would suggest is to either get the Ultimate, for the HoT glider, or alternatively … get the standard and buy a glider you like when they are available because the basic one is ugly.
The PvE is okay, but the terrain is pretty amazing. You can find so many wormholes that take you in the opposite direction you thought you were going, only to land at some hero point or mastery point. Kinda neat. Overall worth it though.
Get the warrior to equip a bulls charge, and signet of rage and you got a race. Perma 33% upkeep plus 3 gap closers.
Should note the warhorn keeps the elite swiftness up.
Depends on the response time with enemies. just test it out before you actually hit a target. Take out some guards, hit the door a few times just to make the icon on the map ‘contested’ with white swords. Wait a few minutes with a path out of sight, watch and see if you get any response (could just be a single guy checking to see if it was a door tapper – if so, wait for swords to drop on the icon, and go build siege) give it a whirl and you know you may have 1 guy scouting that you may have to kill.
If a zerg rolls through as the response, maybe try to draw them across the map before attempting the takeover.
Start small, if you can with t1 or ‘paper’ towers. They go down alot faster.
And the tip about using guild seige is good. Seriously who wants to run all that supply back and forth it gets deflating when you almost finished to arrive at that superior cata and see it shot torn down by one scout.
For a moment, I thought this was actually going to be a “very happy” thread. Silly me to think that could exist on a forum.
Do you mean the recipes? Why do you have to pve to unlock the armor/weapon recipes? or acquiring the armor/weapons through reward track?
If you are asking why there is no reward track for HoT stat equipment, because there is. It starts from the Verdint brink reward track, you have to unlock VB (to unlock AB), AB (to unlock TD), TD (to unlock the repeatable Heart of Maguuma). Each of these reward tracks provides you with weapons and armor with your choice of stat selection (sometimes limited to a selection of stat choices).
Granted it’s much easier to activate HoT story mode… walk through the portal, collect your story mode reward and turn to the first vendor to the right and say “Hey Itzel, show me your wares, yup… I’ll buy one of those Minstrel’s insignia’s” or head to AB to get vipers from Exalted. DS for commanders… not sure who uses trailblazers but you get where I’m going.
But that PvE so tough.
EDIT: After all the years … WvW still always a thought, generally after, for cool things everything else gets much easier.
I feel your pain. I generally have little issue with survivability, even in full zerk, however … I did come across this one alley I’ve dubbed the pocket raptor alley. Must be near a god darn hundred across the hundred feet. Running straight through them can take my health quite low from such minor pests.
What I’ve noticed a lot in HoT, is it helps to equip any stun breaks/condi clears as there are a lot of cripple I have to shake off when running around. Armor stats are meh, for defense you have toughness… and vitality. And … well … ummmm… that is all. Huigher vitality pools help with condition heavy HoT maps.

More ideas for stuff not on the survey:
-Coins. Collectible currencies from the various “nations” (i.e. Kryta, Ascalon, Orr, the Legions, the Dominion of Winds, the Tethyos Houses, Jotun trading stones…), perhaps in “gold”, “silver”, and “copper” denominations, if you’re feeling fancy.
Mystic Coins
What bugs me is the guys who go to some events, and just stand there … doing next to nothing. If you don’t know … ask. Most will help.
Was doing AB yesterday to get the remaining commendations from east/west … when I did east, there was – no joke … a guy sitting in the corner by the bouncy mushroom (enemies don’t get into it). Didn’t move for all the event, sat there … waited till final burn then joined in. At least he was afk at east, which is generally a simpler route. That must have been one long bathroom break o.O
I went to do a daily bounty last night, champion zirh or whatever the queensdale one is. No one was there. Deleted the 25s and went back to farming.
My point is… I would like dailies, I’d just like them implemented a little better. Right now champs respawn on like 20 minute timers or something very small. Out of all the bounties I’ve gotten, people were there only half the time. I personally cannot solo a champ (it would probably take me a good 20-30 minutes) but that’s terrible income.
10gold an hour at launch? Wow, I remember when precursors were 30Gold and that was a stretch for most of the guild.
We’d dungeon farm for the daily 1gold first run at cof, ascalon, and SE. But neveer 10g per hour, was lucky enough if we got 10G per day. Fractals never existedduring this time yet, nor did southsun.
Charge is already a skill name (they don’t do same skill names cross professions), but I like “Incoming” +1 to that
I’d just like more information on the actual items. For example, ‘would you actually like to spend supply to repair siege?’ That already occurs when building so I would gather that isn’t much work on Anets part to expand that option from pre-built siege to deployed seige.
Mixed borderlands – the one comment I found interesting (was thinking similar) was from
Mixed BLs: I’d like to see all three borderlands as different. So for example red BL is desert, blue BL is alpine, and green could be ‘forest’ (a new one, use desert or EOTM for now).
Then all BLs would be unique and, since ppl tend to gravitate towards their own BL, if you are a different each week then everyone would be encouraged to try all three.
They should have come out with a jungle borderland for HoT(they had a jungle guild hall from gw they could have used as a starting point – its just too small for gw2) … but given the initial player reaction to desert wasn’t great… I doubt resources will go to developing another BL anytime soon.
Also , make it mandatory that each week, you are a new color. Don’t base it on green = top.
Just be sure to fill in the survey’s when they are live. I think they even email them to your account when they are on.
Sheeple meet choice, choice meet sheeple. They like to pretend they are borg, but really it takes 100 of them, and when 2-3 say this, the rest just follow.
Seems legit.
No one reads, everyone just blasts out responses to a
‘hey guys, how you doing, heads up on these upcoming things, just want to keep you in the loop’
The general populus responds with:
“ummm, umm a – no, b-no maybe, c I don’t care, d – hodor”
At this point, I would just give the populus a picture of a door and tell them to hold it up. See if that’s achievable.
(Biased opinion) I’d pay on my CC if Anet implemented Gifts of Explorer on the gem store. Take my money!!
Using Karma is a cop out for helping world completion. So is gold for that matter, given both are rewards for heart completion.
Don’t get me wrong, I hate the grind too, but it’s real and it’s meant to make you feel like you deserve that legendary.
The grind is real, and its going to be tougher and tougher for people with the less people who play on HoT maps. If this idea were to go through, it would be great (personal feeling), but would only add to the reason why I don’t have to go to HoT at all.
I think Anet needs to build more incentives for people to enjoy there new zones, while being less grindy? Maybe 100% bonus XP weekends or such to get more people into the maps.
Personally I go into HoT usually one day on the weekend for a few hours, and that’s about it per week. It’s just not that interesting. I already feel like I am behind the curve when I see guys with 100+ mastery at every event I go to. Then when I go to a HoT map theres maybe 5 people doing events before you get that – not enough players volunteer reward. Last weekend I was on Auric Basin when the major defense event was going on, almost 5 minutes after, volunteered to go to a new map, only to do one event, volunteer to go to new map, followed by another event and volunteer note. I gave up at that point, logged out.
So I do +1 the idea, but feel like it will be detrimental to activity on HoT maps. Which is fine if I can gain HoT xp on non-HoT maps.
