Server relinking occurs on friday … hopefully it helps a few of the ‘very’ uneven matchups/servers
It’s a plus, now if only we can have squad members one colour, party members a priority colour, so we can see better on the mini map
They mentioned they are targeting for aug 29th so there is still a week. Here, take this pill… it’s made by Chill
Still need an adjustment for scoring when facing outmanned servers. Sounds interesting though.
I would support this. Why not have all reward tracks = in any game mode you play. PvE of course is different because it has a wonderful world to explore, stories, and money trees everywhere. But for the sake of consistency, I think reward tracks should be the same available in either mode. This way if you PvP more than WvW … you can do whatever track you are farming. Same goes when triumphant hero’s and mistforged comes out… obtainable in both.
This also provides the PvE player base both options to attain it in. Most likely don’t like PvP, but some may like PvP more than WvW, and they should have access to it.
You can separate the warscore, versus the WXP reward track. Make the warscore take the hit, while the WXP could be whatever they wanted. This way if Anet tends to lean on heavy zerging … then keep the wxp gain on par as it is, just reduce the servers warscore. Sure use the calc (players/objective warscore total) – this would basically mean 1 warscore point for 8+ players taking it.
People don’t progress from warscore, so they shouldn’t feel shafted, as they get exactly what they got before. Just matchup points get closer.
I’m supportive of friendly fire, at least for an April fools kinda fun themed event. Maybe restrict the npc guards from it though, or hell… make it universal and see how many rings stay up. Still would be lots of fun.
They have to come up with a calculation whereby an enemy zerg grants there world reduced points on capture to a minimum. So a zerg who caps and empty tower where they outman they other 2 opponents would get say 1 point at the consecutive ticks, versus 8 or so, and if it upgrades to t2, then bump the points back up to 8.
While if a 5 man team goes in and they don’t draw out the outmanned buff on the 2 opponents, the empty cap would count for 8 points.
This kinda change would show varying results, but I would assume this would help destack some of the heavier servers.
I know I could think it through more, but … just the kinda idea I would suggest. This way, it will affect ‘night cappers’ and ultimately let’s say ‘day cappers’ for any battles where a server has very little players versus a overwhelming enemy force.
They could just all break off into teams of 5 and cap at full points, but I haven’t thought it out entirely.
Level 80 booster … for when I need to reroll a character/profession for guild.
A few weeks now… and DB clearly does not need to be linked. They were on the rise I think fresh into t1 last linking and still was ‘very high’ for like a week after.
BG still definitely the biggest … but DB and JQ overnight presence still what will keep them in t1 moving forward. TC will be T2, likely unlinked…
Maybe IoJ goes to DH … and everyone will come to the forums and complain half their guild can’t play with DB anymore? Seems to be the popular new forum meta
Well I think Spell’s write up is a good general overview to help players understand what is going on around them in WvW, as well as any map chat communications, and provides various styles of playing WvW.
I don’t see much wrong with it… the other sticky seems to focus solely on where the GoB went and how to get it. Kinda useless about the game mode, but good to know for someone who is looking to accomplish that one goal.
It would be nice to see some more community driven information provided for a new player though. Perhaps if there are any creative writers that could put a nice spin on it, like telling the tale of past battles around a bar table with whiskey in hand. Brief but maybe a nice brief read that ends ‘Welcome to WvW’ … alongside some recommended build templates (maybe link to metabattle).
Definitely something that says ‘Supplies are useful’ here’s how to get them, here’s how you use them.
I’m sure most of this is on the wiki, but this forum could probably come up with some nice community driven promotional items.
Hell a video listing by roles would even be useful for those trying to see/learn understand.
Those camps were cheap … now the speedy yaks … are not.
Likewise though, upgrading towers and keeps – cost alot. i remember burning through lots of gold daily. And if you had little overnight presence, you’d be back at it the next day.
I wish the current guild system maintained (or made it at least manageable) for smaller guilds to get more involved this way. It’s a gold sink too big for any to even get to speedy yaks especially with a 5 man guild. I used to love claiming camps, or maybe a small tower for us to defend and upgrade. Not so much the case anymore.
There were a lot of benefits in the old days, but it did still cost a lot, I believe each waypoint was 1g, fort was 1g – for each keep/tower (where applicable).
We also had the alpine reworked from the original lake + island in the middle to the bloodlust capture points. But that’s an adjustment to an existing map.
It was the neighbours cat’s necro alt. Pretty OP kitty right there!
Most guilds I see, even the big WvW guilds only have 15-20 core with random followers anyways nowadays. I have yet to see anything larger active each night.
Just cause a roster holds 500 or so, doesn’t mean they are playing.
Most small guilds run in a party.
Just my observations, those numbers seem way too large. i would bet there are hundreds of smaller guilds 3-10 mans that field a havok team nightly. While the big guilds are somewhere in the dozens spread out.
GW1 was human only … and players wanted more options.
Players got more options with GW2.
Evolution. Let’s not go back to the stone age.
I have to think this WC change was an error… and will likely play out the rest of the week. I would think friday will get an update to fix it. it makes little sense to have the wall within clear view of some randoms running from green keep to smc. All other towers for green, and all other towers in general … do not have this kinda protection. I call it protection because it’s literally a high traffic & vulnerable area for any attacking force.
I have to think that was an oopsie on Anet’s part.
The strength of the party is for people to call targets to burst down, I agree that party should have a color that stands out. This will help situational awareness of where you are in relativity to your party.
As it stands, right now, so long as you are close to the many blue dots, you think you are close to your party but likely not. This problem gets worse while some players are slower, less gap closers/separators. I can’t see how it would be a difficult change.
How much has the game provided me? 0 … 3 accounts – 2 of which were bwe1 gw1 step ups. Played since head start … never got anything from any game mode. PvE, boss timer, orr events, dungeons, WvW, nothing.
Only way I ever got a precursor was paying ‘x’ hundreds of gold and buying it off the tp … but if say you want to talk about ‘spikes’ … got plenty of them.
Hours spent in game doing stuff – ‘too much of life wasted for so little to show for it.’ I can’t be certain, but I think it’s around 6500-7000 across the 3.
Delete it. Put a huge lake with a small island in the middle. Maybe populate with some krait.
Lol … coooo
return of the quaggans and pearls
They have a lot of work on the go atm, we gave them a priority list – of which repair hammers and mobile cannons were not even on. That must have been extra.
DBL is slated for august 29th if they hit all there gates, means it basically crunch time while they deal with any issues they come across
Yeah, no choice, same instance … all gotta go. The worst is if you in combat in an epic fight – you come back … in LA … dead.
Wars are still a thing, they just excel more around roaming versus group play (in comparison to the other professions) . I still log into my war almost everyday … the only time I swap is for when our guild goes on a run in WvW. I feel when I’m on my warrior in that situation … I feel so much more selfish. In retrospect … when I swap to my Rev for group play, I’m happy to help support all my teamates, but I sure as heck miss my mobility from my war.
Tengu … superior race. Still guarding there door to the homeland.
I contributed to the gem sales, plan to contribute in future, and will buy 3 expacs when they are ready for our family guild … cause regardless of how many people come and go, this is our primary game to enjoy.
Company likely expected a dive this far after there expac, and running on a constant gem sale income based on active player population. Every time a game is released, you have a huge pop play it, half leave to next shiny. Every time you release a expac, you get a nice bump in that quarter, and the immediate following quarter while players who play slowly jump in a catch their characters up … the low point only provides the running active player base. Looking at this saying lowest quarter= 15 is bad … that means they only make 60 annually … is inaccurate. it’s more like 20 + 37+30+15 = 102 annually (this is example). You then take that annually in comparison to years prior to draw the trend, which even though maybe down year over year … is still likely looking more like 102 this year looking like 92 next year.
Anyways … all games have their own, and i wouldn’t expect far changes from how this game is already been developed. They will add some cool stuff, people will enjoy it …
While i would love to see say the addition of hall of heroes … or similar … i wouldn’t expect any heavy development going into something like that. Rather building a larger story, maybe some more maps … basically expecting a better expac than there first one released. That would be the bar.
Wouldn’t the easiest way to look at this be … tracking quantities of whispers per period of time? I’m pretty sure the automation of whispers exceeds the speed at which normal players can type, even if i were to type solely in whispers to each player i by passed during game play.
These guys whisper upwards of huge % of a given map and there message contents are almost identical (likely 90% identical – pre programmed) with some fluff to make it slightly different. Whereas you won’t find players whispering every other player on a map… they instead use … map chat. or Say chat. Even if i tried to whisper each person in my map… it would take a regular player much longer to type get the whispered target, and type out messages.
I know I’m very green to say it like so, but I was just thinking about human vs automation and easy ways to differentiate.
I miss the days of the standard routines… guilds all working together slotting their respective time slots and (if during prime) maps. The hand offs between the guilds… it was rewarding work … and a great way to learn all the prospective ways of contributing to WvW in a larger picture.
Now, there are very few who do this … and to be honest, it seems like most are the guilds who were more in the backseat of the past, who are now some of the prime identities. Good to see some of them last, but definitely miss the feeling and responsibility of owning your accountability and objectives until the next guys come along and you officially hand it off to them.
Nowadays it is definitely more relaxed (which is good too) but definitely feels less organised and more reactive.
Linkings happen over the course of 2 months. If you are from YB, you were up in t1 just dropping to t2, and did not have a link. You won’t get linked for another 2 or 3 weeks. I can’t remember the exact date. sorry
I’d imagine they are getting some real world experience on what it is like through out the week in t4 to see either:
- if they can help drum up some numbers (unlikely, and would only apply to the Dbay side)
- or if it’s as badly imbalanced as people claim it is
I’m sure they will change up the pairings heavily in DH’s favour next linking. Possibly even bump SBI back up by reverting the glicko change and CD will be back down, with maybe 1 less pairing
They weren’t. It was a one time glicko bump and they only said they would remove it at a later time.
b)Keep recommending it to friends and perhaps coworkers. There is very little chance of getting someone brand new to try out a free account, possibly leading to a purchase, if said player is so annoyed that they have nothing at that moment positive to say about said game. In fact, said player may even be capable of being so annoyed that they talk people out of trying it at all.
Just a note: Free to play accounts wouldn’t be able to access the LS3 content without a purchase.
Frustrations conveyed strongly though.
Fly and fly battles … no. There is a game called AION for that. NCsoft would appreciate if you buy that as well, because from the latest q2 financials… it looks like it was doing about on par with gw2 … which was it’s worse financial quarter I believe yet. I have faith it’s a peaks a valley thing, but please no flying battles, at least not in WvW.
What would be the point of gates, walls? Would we now have to use giant rocks and break through roofs instead?
I would like to see Anet hold true to there story, add new content like Ring of Fire, or the crystal desert if its still there – also would like 1 WvW map, maybe new elite specs for all classes. Taht’s about it.
I gave up hoping to see Tengu made available.
I only see this issue growing over time… guilds move worlds, players take breaks, guilds recruit from linked worlds, world pairing change… and we have no guild HR rep who can manage to keep it under control
Guilds themselves created the issue to begin with by transferring. I’m not opposed to transferring and in fact was one of the guys whose guild transferred while I was on a hiatus. When I came back, I was alone. I basically had two options… build money to move if/when the server ever opened up… or change guilds.
If the destination guild moves to a server that is commonly ‘full’ … I would have left the guild and found a new home.
If guilds created the issue, they should resolve it. If they don’t want to move down to accommodate their own, and the player is unwilling to change guilds to accommodate active play within there new found world post hiatus, then it’s a waiting game to see what comes first … server opening / player quitting.
I’m not sure Anet would support a guesting feature to unlinked full servers… a server is full because the calculations (whatever and however those are derived) determined the world was full. A full world with guild members stuck in other worlds (like i was) is no different than say … one world – when it comes to WvW. If you follow … because things are based on accounts, changing it to base things on guilds in order to accommodate the guys unable to move … breaks whatever math and logic is being used to set world capacities.
… in the end the only way to ever help the players out is to wipe the worlds out into alliances and open maps based on active play time throughout.
But that comes with issues too. The cost for moving is a moot point, because the guilds who are in this situation are in it because of moving worlds so often. So they have the money, maybe not every guild member … but that’s a guild & player issue. It sucks though.
The expac is worth it if you enjoy character progression, or story mode. The maps are nice, but there is not that many. Also the elite specs are very powerful.
I was in your shoes “I read it online and it’s getting bad reviews” but playing the expac was actually enjoyable. It ‘felt’ short… but very enjoyable. I eventually upgraded all our family members to enjoy the story mode, and gain access to the new elite specs (for our wvw play).
My only gripe is the amount of collection achievements and chasing mastery points, feels a little grindy.
Gliding … is awesome and like second nature in PvE.
In the end, you always revert back to the worlds you enjoy exploring … and for me that’s Tyria and this game (and in past gw1’s version of it). Just something about the ambience I really enjoy.
This upcoming linking will be one of the first linkings where they have a lot of data on how the current match ups went. I would assume the farther along into the linkings we go the better the match ups will evolve to. Until then, it’s a tough road that has to be walked, but I believe it will be slightly better.
I wouldn’t be surprised if T4 again has one lopsided pairing, while they try to work on a happy median.
Also, I would expect to see IoJ removed from DB and likely provided to the Dbay pairing (whatever that looks like next linking)
I sure see why they made your building look like an octopus
We all know everyone plays ranger to try to be as good as AJAX, but they all just don’t measure up, just a bunch of mouthbreathers!
The people make WvW great. On the same blade, they can also make the experience very unpleasurable if they can’t keep themselves composed. Overall I would have to say the good people and community stand strong, and that’s what makes it great. No one cares about the points when you’re having a good ol laugh…
This is just awesome news to hear you guys will be in attendance… we’ve got day passes for our group of 5 on Saturday, sadly 2 of the 5 are minors and unable to attend an event such as this. We will ponder a way to make it all work out, and hope to be putting my name in the hat with a +1 to meet and greet.
I’d like to see necros and mes have an AoE shatter/corrupt enchantment on low to moderate CD to be useful – coupled with a 5 sec ‘revealed’ equivalent for boons once stripped.
EDIT – like necro well is too long CD …. null field does no dmg … I think mes need shattter enchantment and necro needs something on equivalent CD as spinal shivers with reduced cast time maybe – not my job though. Boons stacking that long in duration says something is not working
I have a GREAT idea.
Remove the tactivators entirely.
You’re welcome.
+1
pain absorption on mortar fields = 120…. that’s how he got it. He would have been dead long before if trying to stack and their resistance would have been long over. Keep only has few mortars which can hit that choke, he likely pain absorbed right through the choke with the head of the squad. Should give this guy a high five or cookie for playing proper skill at proper time.
Agreed, siege is powerful and sucks to fight in or around. Also leads to less fighting and more standing around when a quarter of the squad jumps on siege the other 3 quarters just idle (often)… may as well make player skills counter siege skills like swirling winds used to so more people can do something
Can provide stab for the backline
Nope… seen it first hand. Commander looks at squad, yells at squad … get off your pew pew rangers and play real class… I need guards kitten it… 25% swap characters…. “Okay we on guards” as they produce their longbows
IMO better solution
Damage increase as the catapult shot is charged; 100% charged shot deals more damage than a point blank tap
Damage increase = the number of extra shots you would get from point blank
Depending on how people feel about it, tune down catapult damage to match
Lets you put your catapult wherever you like and it’ll still be fully effective, people will naturally decide to put their catapults somewhere more sensible than melee
I’ve been advocating this for years and always got chewed out about it because it would kill ktraining.
I still advocate for it.
The issue I see is you can still do 100% charge right against the wall.
What they should do is change the Gift of Battle Reward track to Gift of Exploration, and add the GoB vendor back in.
The PvE players can stay out, and WvW players can stay in. The only problem is if PvE players who do not want to WvW come in because some jabrony calclated you get the gift 2.5% faster in WvW. But details like that could be a trivial calculation to make it longer in WvW which would keep everyone happy, and segregated from paying things outside their comfort zone.
A golem repair 20% for 10 supply … isn’t that like half the rate it takes to build? Basically 100% for 50 supply? I wonder if they have a flat rate across all siege or it’s unique to each type?
Anet players: “It is time to show population numbers!”
Anet: “Pulls out 5d20 and rolls”
Anet: “We sure we should tell them BG only has 26 people?”
… forum posting goes unanswered
