Are you using a SSD?

I don’t think so…. laptop is like 2-3 years old. i7 running win8.1 ~ looking at the drive 1tb so no… def not.

A competent player in full exotics can easily take over a scrub that think having full ascended stuff will save him

Ascended equipments give advantage? Sure they do. But it’s not like it’s impossible to win a fight without those… One would argue that at best you only need a ascended weapon (because the base damage increase the damage of your skills) to be par with an full ascended player

Yup, I can’t remember but wasn’t it only like 4-5% difference in overall stats? The weapon provides the cap on dmg, suffering a bit in stats isn’t going to hurt experienced players. Heck, most players I bet have at some point levelled alts that were still under levelled in WvW to get the last 5-10 levels. I remember a pretty popular commander making his charr alt, and commanding underlevelled and still doing very well. The difference there is a lot more noticeable then missing some ascended armor.

My alt account is still time gated for laurels (so poor on laurels, looking at 2 in the wallet) and most my accessories are exotic still.

If you have ascended available, great … if not … it’s not to hard to gear out in exo’s and work from there if you are new.

What if the bounty system was based on players of the other server? You get marked (and likely farmed) as long as it lasts (and maybe switch the bounty targets every hour or so). Or would that just make people wait till they are not the bounty?

I know it’s a radical idea, but I think it would be hilarious. Andfinally players might try sniping something other than the pin.

I only attributed 30-40 for time spent. I know that a rip off, but players won’t pay 150-250 to unlock a few skins

I doubt many would spend 80 to unlock them, but you never know.

Sure but devils, consider the OP … this is not a battle hardened individual … yet. It’s a new player coming to WvW, and he most def is not looking to zerg bust, but maybe get with a team and learn the ropes from.

So likely you are looking at a character, and can assume he will need a full set to accomplish (havoc team play).

They will not have armor sets readily available, nor any knowledge of any builds.

He needs to get involved with a WvW guild to learn and acquire a taste for that kind of thing.

Not sure the OP’s attitude would be tolerated much by anyone, but I’m sure there are havoc guild on your home server (or pairing) that can assist.

As of right now, you basically have to be connected with a few options, check them out and figure who you want to go learn the ropes from.

Earlier in the thread I noted I had 2 accounts with this unlocked already.

But …. seeing as you think I based my judgement on the cosmetics or my personal opinion, versus the accessibility, let’s take a look at the issue closer.

Release dates
The Guild wars 1 release date was April 28, 2005

Guild wars: Factions was released April 28, 2006

Guild wars: Nightfall was released October 26, 2006

Guild wars: Eye of the North was released August 31st, 2007

Guild wars 2 was released August 28, 2012

Requirements
You required 1 core game, plus 1 expac: Eye of the North in order to unlock the hall of monuments. Players who achieved this at the time of release had to pay $50 per core, plus $50 for expac.

My suggestion about this topic
The worth is based off of the fact that your primary suggestion is to have someone fork out for the core + and expac and do the work (which the present cost of gw1 core, plus eye of the north is cdn $21.99 for core and $21.99 for expac on steam atm). Great. We’ve come to a total of $44 and you can start getting to work. The game itself is 11 years old, and has a sequel which is almost 4 years old.

In order to keep players playing the current version of the game and unlock it, I suggest a higher price of $60-$80 to unlock the skins. Seems fair to tack on 30-40 for time invested, now.

I would not suggest to players to purchase the old game, and run around and do it yourselves … at this point in the games life cycle, it makes no sense to drive players off of your current game. Instead, it does make sense for current players to have to pay the same if not more for accessing some skins.

My personal opinion
It’s still ugly, functional yes, but ugly. And yes, I can voice my personal opinion on a public forum, that is exactly what it is intended for. It does not have anything to do with the worth or where I drew the number from.

Just make em pay … 1 core + 1 xpac cost… I mean the skins are not worth it. I used to use the heritage heavy on my norn just as a unique skin. But it was so ugly.

If someone wants to spend 80 bucks or so to unlock 30 relatively skins, have at er. Supports Anet, gives you accessibility. It’s not like they are the ‘goblet of everlasting life’

Lol okay I’m still salty from last nights kitten kicking. I mean we got as many that came at us and even up’d our KD ratio last night, but just looking around at all the downs and inevitably being swallowed up during that SMC battle … makes me want to log in and exact some revenge. I hate that timer as well. You can effectively cap 2 ruins and be in the circle of the third, but by the time you cap it, you have already lost the first.

absolutely no sense, that’s why I always put out a map chat to back cap the first point, but the timing could be more friendly to a solo roamer

If you care at all about balance from the top down, do not open BG. They do not need any help.

TC is open whats the problem? If people are not transferring there, its not our fault.

TC being open, and not blasting out an immediate recruitment thread is not a counter to BG being full (in fact i bet because we have been full for a while, most are caught off guard). It just reiterates the rather obvious fact that BG is still the big kid on the block.

Back on topic: Good. glad servers opened up. To me it’s anet saying … “here’s your chance to fix it players, you have been given the power.”

Yet we all know, very little may change. There will be a few big guilds moving around that I know of, but none of it comes from or was considering going to BG oddly enough.

Starting out by threatening to destroy other people’s gameplay is against the T’s and C’s.

It’s basically like me saying ‘hey guys new to pve, if you force me to do things I don’t want to do… I’ll bring my guild and ruin the AB meta all week to ensure failure’

Of course that is not acceptable behaviour in either circumstance.

Moving past that childish attitude and on to your question: WvW video’s … there are plenty of WvW videos out from commanders, players, guilds … the whole nine yards.

But you are right… this game is not new anymore. There is a lot of these “how to’s” and basic write ups available, likely out dated, but available. Some of these just need to be brought to the forefront and promoted by communities. I feel this area is lacking, because it takes a tonne of work and effort. We used to have one guild position that was pretty much dedicated to it, and they burnt out.

Most of all, what I’d need is a place to start. There maybe good places to start, but I don’t know about them. Instead people jabber on assuming I already know what “push” or “max participation” mean.

^^ …. new players who don’t have the know how, or have an interest but not sure where to go for some guidance, information, current builds, map layouts, general stuff. Many servers actually have their own server forum with some of this information.

For the record, coming in with a poor attitude, regardless of game mode, will get you 0 help. Just based on the way you decided to craft your OP, I am still not convinced you actually give a rat about WvW. But I wanted to highlight the only viable point you made I believe is true regardless of server (given the current age of the game)

They are the only two I can think of that really help reduce lag on your side.

BS josh … you guys farmed YB the night before somehow increasing your lead while you had little amount of structures. in fact your K:D ratio has gone down slightly since the original posting down to 1.17, while TC’s stayed par or slightly up to 1.10 … and YB’s still down floating around 0.65 or so.

This alone says BG’s big fat blob last night was not as skilled as the night prior and lost ratio. Which was hard to believe considering the encounters last night, and the fact they basically omni-blobbed everything they could to paper. This tells me, omni blobs good for 1 job … papering keeps. That is all, throwing bodies to overwhelm opponents.

Thankfully you guys chose watergate at EB Keep last night – probably wasn’t the best choice, considering we were all riled up after the home BL papering.

Anet have the existing code from gw1, granted would need to be updated … but working at EA … dev team always take existing code, update and modify it. It’s just not a priority. The reason I mentioned the sites, was the gw1 system worked very similar (but again thinking about it, you are right) they should just use there existing code, it’s much faster.

Making a sword at a crafting table in WvW? I mean, what the hell were you using before bare hands on Teq?

The way I see it … there will be no common ground in this argument. One side won’t push till they get what they want, the other see absolutely no use for it. No one budges. Change is done.

And who gets loading screens, the only time I hear it in WvW is when someone ports back to spawn/keep wp and they say … ‘crap, loading screen bug’ brb

This is exactly what the bloodlust ruins were implemented for. Small scale pvp fights. They replaced the lake in the middle of the ABL, remove the krait and quaggans and created a place for roamers and solo players to meet up and fight at (capture points)

It caught on originally, then died off and people still tend to hang out just north of s camp in ABL. Or in EBG by an opposing keep.

Build templates are a highly sought after QoL feature. Many people would love this, but presently we don’t have it. It’s sad because most of the tools are already out there, getting it into the game is likely a different story.

Anet should just acquire one of the build template sites and build it into the game. Hopefully in some upcoming expac as a QoL feature. I don’t believe every decsion has to be a revenue generator based decision. This is one of the only things I really miss about gw1. it was easier to theorycraft and share builds with each other, simply by sending a chat code that a friend could save as a template.

I don’t support this. I played gw1 since beta, got my accounts linked and put in the work.

There is a lot of items that are behind concrete walls, not accessible anymore. It actually is nice to have the population vary a bit depending on whether or not you put in effort during a given time period. Karka event no longer accessible, scarlet content too.

Hell you can’t even visit the old Lion’s Arch… what about those players that want to experience that?

I have 2 gw2 accounts linked to gw1 accounts so they have rewards on those. And this one which was a f2p convert to HoT. Still don’t think they should make it available unless you support the company in the same manner the gw1 players did … pay upfront for the unlocks at the cost similar to what it would take – 1 core + 1 expac

If they add that to the BL, say an 60-80 dollar buy in … then sure, unlock it all for those wanting to pitch in and support the company.

I thought i was the only one with this. I’m doing the Triumphant track, and want to keep it on repeat, but every time I finish it kicks me back to Arah track and i have to manually go back in and reactivate it.

So basically after the southsun cove event, Anet added another way to get it wxp. But your rank up chests didn’t provide you with 500 badges, not even close. At level 5 your rank up chest gives you 3 badges of honor and like 5 silver. You would still need to acquire more badges.

And in order to craft a legendary which required the GoB … you would need to get those badges in …

(note: thanks for sharing that, I actually did forget about the WXP laurels … and no need to fill in the blank. We all know how to get badges)

As some have mentioned, if that’s more to your liking … EoTM is the map you want to be on. It used to house champions and fluff on it to go karma train, while still having the ability to kill an enemy.

If anything, the WvW maps need to be more focused on people either , ppt’ing, ppk’ing sentrying, roaming/havoc, zerg/zerg busting if anything.

As a newer player to WvW it’s understandable you may think that things like that will attract more people to it, but the reality is, there is 27 maps out there that offer AI enabled opponents… the 4 maps WvW has should encourage more PvP fights (in all scales – solo to army).

EoTM was made to both offset queue time (long past), and to accommodate a crowd who wanted to get there feet wet before jumping into WvW.

What WvW needs… overall … is better guidance from the community to newer players. Looking online – most builds are way out-dated, and thats for those who know to go look at builds and try to understand and play them effectively. Newer players often will bring in their ‘only’ build that they loved playing in PvE, may or may not have limited success, more often they do not (hence the term rallybot), and grow a distaste for dying. (no one enjoys it, but in WvW or sPvP you will die, repeatedly… jsut have to get back up and try to fix one thing).

Introducing more PvE into WvW would only contribute to the problem ,where as if we set an example, guide, communicate, really put some effort into getting more knowledge out there to newer players … they may have a better overall experience. That’s the only way you will retain anyone.

I bet on it to support future WvW development.

I also voted because I believe the best theme parks are ones that cater to the masses, regardless of my personal opinion.

I also voted for it because if I have the right to vote, I will use that right. I’m not lazy like some arm-chair complainer telling everyone why things are wrong with society , but fails to cast their own vote. And to be honest, we need less of those.

I believe a lot of people have personal opinions (strong ones too) on both sides of the argument. But I also believe this is the best viable option for the future of WvW. Rotating BL’s seems somewhat counter to building and growing your communities.

You like a cheeseburger, I like a chicken burger… in the end, if we can get both at the same establishment at the same time, no need for any to go hungry

As for wvw map completion, the point of what I was saying was that if you go far enough back, yes, legendaries did actually require wvw to make, but after that requirement was gone, so was the need to do wvw at all, until now. You’re just splitting hairs.

Just one point of clarity… you always needed to do WvW for Legendary crafting. Removing the map completion part was a small part. Getting your badges for the GoB has never changed. They just moved it to a reward track so it’s easier to accomplish for those that cannot kill a player or someone who is unable to complete a WvW daily.

Fact still stands … WvW is a part of the recipe. Always has been since launch. Anet just made it easier to cater to the softer special crowd that avoids conflicts and fighting. Also because we are 3+ years into the game, newer players need things a little faster to catch up.

We (TC) are pretty sure BG was farming YB while we flipped BG’s BL. It was the only conclusion we could come up with, and by looking at the Kills to death ratio … I’m pretty sure someone on BG could confirm this was happening last night.

I crafted my ascended weapons in Lion’s arch… I’m making another Legendary so I am working on Map completion in PvE ….

I do not enjoy map completion… but because i put personal value in creating a legendary … I have decided I will make on on my third account. My choice … means I have to put in the time and work in PvE. Sigh … i wish I could get that gift of exploration in 8.5 hours … but I can’t … takes much longer. I also ran TA dungeons multiple times to grind out the tokens. Because in the end, it was my choice to create a Legendary. Do I enjoy creating them, no … but I want one. So I will complete the steps to create it.

What is ridiculous, is actually saying your hard up because you personally choose to do the Legendary crafting and feel it’s gated behind a WvW reward track that takes less than half the time of say the GoE. Forcing you to play… when it took much more actual WvW to collect the badges.

The only people screwed over, and I’ll stand by this … is those who collected badges, and failed to turn them in before Anet pulled the rug out from under them.

We are all forced to play ways we do not enjoy when deciding to make a Legendary, you are no different them me. But it’s us who decide up front, with all the knowledge of what it takes … that decide to either make it or not.

If a kid wants a trophy but refuses to play in the tournament, they kid does not get a trophy.

Legendaries are not participation badges, each piece of the craft requires all of the work. The gift of battle (being the easiest to acquire by far) requires you to WvW ….. It used to require you actually kill players and npc lord’s to acquire badges at a much slower rate.

A Legendary item is not a WvW trophy, it is the highest level of rarity for the entire game. No other rarity is tied behind having to play in any particular venue. THAT is what is ridiculous.

Most people would rather support the future of WvW development, than to turn on it. I could care less about DBL, but I prefer to have avenues always on for players who want to go there and have fun.

Also I doubt we would ever get a new map if DBL was shot down. Variety allows players to keep it kinda fresh every now and then, just like playing different classes.

It’s not a bad thing for the future of wvw, the way the poll is going.

Actually they are slightly not the same.

In Alpine… taking the northern towers provides an alternate avenue to attack the garrison.

In DBL … taking the northern towers means, you took a northern tower. I don’t believe there is anything else. You get buffs from the regional shrines.

Blackgate has a pretty nice chunk of their score from PPK, not just ktraining.

As of right now, heres stats on the match

Blackgate has 17308 kills, 14070 deaths – 1.23:1 kill to death ratio
TC has 15346 kills, 14198 deaths, 1.08:1 ratio.
YB has 8396 kills, 14249 deaths, 0.59:1 ratio.

I believe it is 2 points per kill if I remember correctly? So 34616 of blackgates 167539 is just from kills alone. The only server right now that has a higher KDR than Blackgate is the CD/BP/ET/Kain pairing with 1.26 KDR and 25478 kills down in T4 with a 1.26:1 KDR lol..

We on TC couldn’t really believe it last night. We were out scoring them the whole night long from objectives, yet they were extending there lead, and we kept scratching our heads. We figured it had something to do with PPK … but just couldn’t believe the gap kept widening by about a few dozen to hundred or so all night long.

8.5 hours or so to complete , this part of the legendary is one of the easiest to complete.

How long does it take you to farm enough karma from 0 until you have enough shards for both mastery and clovers?

What about 200 spirit shards starting from 0?

I don’t think you understand – I haven’t seen a call for a “nerf”. “Nerf” means to make something less or easier. We don’t want WvW easier, we just don’t want to do it. Forcing players to do WvW to get a legendary is like saying “I know you hate milk but you have to drink it in order to get any dessert.” That’s something you say to a child, not an adult. When adults eat dinner, they choose what they want to eat and when they want to eat it. They can eat dessert before dinner or dessert FOR dinner. That’s part of doing something you enjoy.

You have ALWAYS had to play WvW for getting legendary. They just made acquiring it faster. There is no way you accumulate 500 badges as a newbie to WvW faster than 8.5 hours of playtime. Sorry, but new players are just not that accustomed or good. Now Anet made it faster, and easier to get it.
