TC burnt out… pushing to tie for 2nd I think we landed? It was a lot of work and it was intense. So many people put in endless hours that led to a lot of burn out.
Even mentioning the word tournament, I feel for all those commanders who (did a fantastic job) as well as the communications /scouts who barely left the map.
I’m sure most servers have stories like this.
We have a 5 man team to work with atm, something of this scale would require much more headcount to support.
I don’t think PvE needs reward tracks. They have: Map Completion rewards (and final reward for world completion), World bosses, Raids, Dungeons, Fractals to name a few.
WvW only has reward tracks to acquire a smidgen of that by completing a track. You get a few loot bags, maybe a tome here and there … and usually 1 dungeon weapon and 1 piece of dungeon armor.
I don’t get why you would add pve reward tracks … basically it would be added and the following would occur…. you would remove or mitigate dungeon currency, and not reward it for dungeon completion, rather just earned through track … as the track gains xp for completing pve things, including dungeons.
I’m sorry for not understanding it fully but I think making reward tracks for pve, would just bring a huge crowd of pve players that will complain when there currencies and other rewards are taken away.
or are you thinking adding the track, and still getting rewards on top of the track, so basically you are getting rewarded extra versus every other game mode?
I tend to disagree with poorly designed and overly punishing. I have no issues … wait for it … with my heavy armor characters.
In playing an alt staff ele that had not yet unlocked tempest fully, I found that to be extremely punishing. I think it’s the poor design only comes in when dealing with under powered light armor professions. I have no experience on medium armor professions in HoT. But heavy is a cakewalk. i can basically run right through most enemies without a care in the world.
It was already released, but the maps are empty because of poor communication :/
The smokescales, those kitten smokescales… especially the vets and up. I don’t mind the little ones as i will move or run once they start there attack rotation, but I wouldn’t stand a chance against any of the bigger meaner versions.
<— plays melee
All this will also help propagate bandwagoning anyways… :/
^^ This. Basically, if you have any history with WvW …. the exact thing you are asking to have occur, is how the overstacking began. First it was HoD, then JQ, then BG & I think SoR… I was part of the Kaineng allegiance.
With any amount of planning, guilds can arrange to stack a server. I don’t see how resetting – and redistributing all accounts, and giving them 1 free transfer will entise someone to spread evenly. If anything it just gives everyone a 1 shot deal to arrange the next Server stacking.
The only way i see any chance at balancing is either through alliances (which I’m not a fan of) … it would basically be the same deal only with 3 colours across all servers, and diminishes server pride. Or somehow measuring the off prime hours activity and balancing that out.
I like where your going with this, it’s just a square peg with a round hole. We need to find the round peg solution.
I will give YB scouts props … seems like there’s a groundskeeper in every building just sitting there calling for a few more siege humpers when they see a possible 5-10 man attempt to take the tower. Burn them down a bit, jump the edge and clean up the mess.
I rarely see YB in the field anymore … I think i saw a group once over the weekend, but I see BG everywhere. The moment I log into wvw, start heading out that portal, within a few seconds I’ll run into a couple roamers, or if I get to a commander, he is generally engaged in a battle with the BG squad.
Maybe it’s just me, but I haven’t seen much squads from YB lately … only defenders/scouts, and really they only call in 3-4 players for support for the other siege to man/defend.
Unlike the distaste many are giving YB … I’m giving you props for working the best you can with the numbers you have on hand, no matter if they are limited or not.
BG will always be the elephant in the room, that everyone always pokes fun at now and then. Like man, your so big, its like super big … meanwhile the elephant looks down at their waste saying … no I’m not, I’m in far better shape than you.
Just find a big group in either map and contribute. You will get up to max points per tick every 5 minutes, and from there … it’s just spend 8.5 hours in wvw. You can spread it across days and weekends, or knock it all out on a day off. To avoid any burnout I suggest spreading it out over a short period of time that works within your schedule.
Easiest things to do while en route, that commanders may not stop for … sentries, escorting dolyaks (at least close to the keep) … repairing a damaged wall ensures points per tick, and of course… capping the larger objectives with the group – like towers and such.
I’ll give an example … if your team is in EBG and they are taking ANZ (tower), drop your supply on the siege and run over to the close by camp and cap that too – generally about 4-5 players dump there supply into siege prints and start heading over there anyway, by the time you return the gate should just be breaking open and you will make it in for the cap on the tower too. If you don’t want to venture that far, just keep your eye out for sentries while you run.
This works for almost every tower on every map. Some have a sentry between you and the camp.
The easiest of course will always be where the largest groups are running and capping.
I wouldn’t suggest a threshold of rank 1000. I’ve played across 3 accounts on and off throughout the years since bwe1 … my current account is my main and I’ve only recently started playing it, up to something like rank 42 or something (the other two accounts are something like 517 and 178) … now that may be too low, but I would say rank 100 would be fair. If you put it too high then new players will never be able to have their input in, and basically you are saying only the elite players get to decide. Which segregates populations even further.
If anything I would somehow incentivise people to play more through out the week… maybe with rank up chest add the in game mail (so long as you can gain 1 rank level in the week, you get the mail). As it stands right now I believe I have only received 1 in game mail about wvw polls. I really don’t know, I’m okay with how anet is doing it now. But I know to look for the forum polls, and not nearly enough players know to do this, or by there own fault are too lazy to vote. And you can’t do nothing about those people.
I’d honestly love a legendary wvw backpiece in the shape of a tear drop.
BG will queue most nights at NA on all maps, the queues very depending on the guilds on the maps.
I like your attitude, and will look for you guys on the battlefield… but this part of the note … is what separates BG from all other servers. Not even TC queues anything outside of reset. And even then, its like EBG + 1
Most nights, NA prime will have no maps queued, or a 50/50 shot at possibly 1 map queued … any given day.
Still gonna fight ya though ;-)
… and to the kaineng brethen who lace up and get battle ready … we salute you and enjoy fighting alongside eachother!
I’m just curious how when you help them … why does it revert back. I thought this game sold the idea that you help people and save some village and they would remember you when you come back.
But every time I run by the npc, they have both failed to remember me, and failed to keep that village. I mean, after a few times teaching my kids stuff, even they are self sufficient.
While I do feel that slight moment of guilt as I pass, it quickly gets overrun by thoughts of … well I really just don’t want to help you anymore because I’m tired of doing the same thing over and over and it’s a waste of time. Time is money in this game, and spending 10 minutes or so for a measly 2 silver, will put me hard up for cash real fast.
I want to capture smc and see if I can fly into a keep! gari to bay? hmmm.
Also, we would need some AA siege, tho I suppose balistas would become more valuable .
Also also, would be funny as hell as watching a zerg fly into smc just as the airships came in for bombardments.
Also also also, I wouldn’t be surprised if people would just start using fly hacks again instead of getting hot for gliders.
Also also also also, No.
Hills to the southeast tower would be an easy one… I would def try the garri to bay … and top floor smc to any of the close towers.
Every time I just off a cliff into water or down a step cliff, I always get reminded there is no gliding in WvW … and I’m good with it staying, but I would like to try those flight paths at least once.
I’m on TC … I find the overall post coming from BG a little surprising but even the #1 server likely has to experience some challenges. I generally enjoy fighting BG in ebg, there is some fun fights and skilled & coordinated players, like the QQ guys who are always up for some fights out front of an enemy keep. I’ll put in work if we have a driver who needs support too, I’m not opposed to fighting outnumbered, and more often than not I want to help support the driver. By not doing so, it kinda leads to people tagging up less frequently.
I think whether WvW was vibrant or barren, that Anet wouldn’t really care. it’s not a balanced game mode, it’s meant to be some weird hybrid of pvp/rvr/pve …
The only thing we ever can do is use what we have to create our fun … so if you like small scale skirmishing, do that, or large rvr style zerg battles (whether outnumbered or not) do that, hell I even know some people that just like to relax, crack open a few beers and scout… and chat in TS.
Even in the current almost queue-less style of WvW – just going out there and having fun with friends who play … that’s all you can really do. Just because we did that with large queues more frequently before, doesn’t mean we can’t do the same in a diminishing population.
No, I think the maps are fair size atm. I wouldn’t be opposed to reducing the amount maps if there was a way of ensuring equality between the teams in the matchup, and not getting rid of ebg.
Also I would hope eotm stays separate from wvw.
What gaming studio does this?
You have to understand that the creators of this game aren’t players. They make games, but they don’t play them. By playing games I mean playing a whole bunch of games of different genres. Analyzing what works in them and what kind of things would create good gameplay. Anet doesn’t do this. It’s the reason why most of the stuff they do looks like it’s straight from brainstorming session.
Clearly you have never worked in the gaming industry. I’ll tell you hands down, not only do employees play the games they create… they also play other games in the genres they do enjoy. A player who likes fps will ikely play fps games, but that doesn’t mean they don’t play racing games, mmo’s or mobile games. I’ve worked for gaming studios for 7 years and the amount of players who work there in there own field of expertise (whether art, programming, communications, marketing, hell even ops and finance have a passion for games)
I also played many times with some Anet employees. If players do not have enough time to play it is usually revolved around a higher demand irl … like a fix, or a new born baby irl or the like.
@hexinx thank you for the first good response. I totally understand you, but I think There could be an easy way where all could be happy , for example if we could merge 250 sparks/oil/dust to 1 ingot or smth alike.
Even dragonit , bloodstone dust and other ‘trash items’ can be fused to smth bigger so that they dont take away space. So isnt it possible to fuse sparks/oil?
Brilliant. Merging useless stacks into something of value to the player. I can support that. Similar to how you can convert useless currencies into ones the player needs (for example … airship parts -into→ aurrellium)
Good idea.
Do not REDUCE DUST. Many players crafting all the auric weapons need copious amounts of dust to complete the collection. If you chose not to, or are complete, then they are worthless – to you.
That should not change for everyone.
I feel your pain on the inventory mgmt issue, but that can easily be addressed individually by the player making their own choices. For example … I delete oil, I may regret it later when i think i may need more stacks, but for now I delete oil. I need auric dust, so I am always scraping at the bottom of the barrel on that, and never seem to collect enough to make enough ingots – into a weapon. Only 4 in, and need another 10 or so weapons, which requires at least 10 ingots each, which means i need roughly what 30 dust per ingot, 300 more dust per weapon (3000 dust required still)
Please don’t reduce things that are already a grind to complete.
Is toggle all nameplates off already an option? I’d love to minimize the clutter and fluff, and really i want to be the judge of each battle i fight in. I could care less if someone is a legendary or dolyak. If they give a good fight, I’ll know. Don’t need fluff
… I don’t think PvErs which are attached to lore will approve such delayed chapter releases.
Is this so, do these who do not approve work for the company? Perhaps they can get together and propose a solution to management? Get executive backing and change the course to something that is more adequate?
It would be interesting if the deep sea dragon relates to the natural disaster of the ‘jade’ sea
Don’t rotate them.
The end goal is to increase activity on all maps.
The only real way to accomplish this … is to have both maps available during each week. Who cares if team 1 home BL is desert and other 2 are alpine.
Just give players the ability to play on the map they enjoy playing on. Activity will increase.
If you rotate them, you will just add fuel to the fire. People will only play WvW when the map they enjoy is available. And likely not play the BL’s when the map is not what they enjoy – defaulting to queue into EBG, the already most popular WvW map. Anet has the stats and knows this to be true.
Let the players, play in the sandboxes they enjoy playing in.
To each their own.
The poll was voted that way to support potential future development
Getting rid of a map completely would inevitably lead to never getting another map again. At least having it on 1 BL … would give some hope for the future of WvW …
DBL wasn’t voted best map, there was large support to support WvW development. Recognising effort put in. Nothing more.
When DBL comes back, you will again see EBG queued, and DBL never queued. I’ve literally never seen it queued. Even when a dbl keep was about to get flipped, and they pulled in EBG raid to support it. Only a quarter of the raid map hopped to support, and went back to ebg a few moments later.
This will continue this way. I voted to keep it, because I’m not an ignorant fool – I voted to keep it because some others may want to play it. Not me personally, but i want more players to play … on the maps they enjoy. If i were forced to play a map I didn’t enjoy, I would without question … not queue up. This way everyone gets a chance, and maybe if some people can get there heads out the ground, maybe we can slowly grow wvw activity over time – cohesively.
1 – How is the continuity ? Is it still mature or not?
Well, this is more a personal response but I feel the game is kinda in limbo atm. Feels like there is more on the horizon, but the faucet is no where close to being turned on. So it is likely that the game is almost exactly how you left it with the addition of a couple raid wings, depending on when you left.
2 – The economy ? The inflation ? Gold sellers?
This one is a bit of a kick in the pants. Things have gotten very expensive over the past few months, with little hope that they will return to a lower price. Everything has gotten very expensive. You can probably just look at gw2spidy to get an idea. You do have many avenues to make enough to supplement your gaming wants, but everything feels so expensive now.
3 – Content? Is it challenging ? Is there enough?
Depends on how much you have played. There are limited amount of maps, I’m assuming you have visited them all. The HoT maps all have meta events – they are basically meta event maps, with some nice rewards, but it’s one hell of a grindy feeling.
4 – Guild Halls?
Are expensive, and tough to build out for lower population guilds, best just to get into an already well established guild who have unlocked everything.
5 Performance? Last I remember it was rolling down a hill with a few improvements form time to time.
Has not really changed imho. The game is still the same, performance wise. No improvements that stand out in my mind.
6 – Is it grindy?
Some aspects are very grindy, in fact most things you actively do to occupy your time are based on a grind. It’s even moreso glaringly grindy in HoT. But, as with many mmo’s … you generally take on the grind as the reward you are seeking is worth it. Again, just be sure not to spread yourself too thin.
7 – The most important one.. IS IT FUN?!
I know my comments may not be shouting fun, but overall … the game is still fun. It has fun aspects to it. You chose to create or have your own fun, in whatever you do. How you look at something generally defines whether you will feel like you are having fun or not.
Nostalgia
I remember 500 people + doing 3head worm hundreds of people in guild wars 2 community TS severs Commanders. Rewarding exploration Brain jamming Puzzles.
Difficult World bosses were failure was a thing. When communication matters. Etc
World bosses and meta events still continue and many players enjoy doing them. They are always populated… getting into a good TTS triple trouble run (which sounds like what you described) is still occurring.
There is ALOT of things to do, but how you chose to spend your time, will dictate what you will be doing, and how you personally feel about whatever it is you do… is all on you.
I personally enjoy logging in, doing my daily, doing a HoT meta or two (for unlocking collections), maybe doing a Teq run (because I need some karma), spend a bit of time crafting ascended stuff, and relaxing doing a bit of WvW to close down the evening. To me it is enjoyable. Some days i can’t complete everything in time, so the list is shorter, other days i have more time … so maybe I’ll add in farming nodes for an hour or so.
Others enjoy doing say fractals, or raids, or spvp, or getting lost in the nooks and crannies of the world. There is a lot to do.
… bring back Ring of Fire and the T-Rex’s
I actually like the EBG map, and would stop playing it if DBL was EBG. I also believe in equality and everyone should have access to the maps they enjoy all the time. My personal preference is to not play dbl… but I do not want it removed, I would want dbl accessible for those who enjoy it.
My personal preference has always been to keep ebg (battleground as in the name), keep an abl (borderland as in the name)), keep a dbl (borderland as in the name) … and rotate the third map with the BL’s – and keeping the option open to develop another map some year in the future that can be transitioned in.
Why do people insist on calling them PvE legendaries? They are legendaries… period.
This is also one of the easiest crafting components to acquire from the legendary journey. I thought this topic was more related to earning the gift from badges/vendor (now removed) versus the amount of work required to obtain via the reward track.
You’ve always had to do WvW to get the component of the legendary, and anet never changed that aspect. Why are so many posting insinuating that ‘we will come and do the least possible’
People, regardless of game mode, will want legendaries because of the cosmetic effects. No group is entitled to them. How you acquire them, regardless of preferred game mode … is going to be through the grind, or with RL money → gems to gold.
Stereotyping others only makes individuals themselves look poorly.
I really feel bad for those who have saved many badges up … only to have the ability to spend those on gifts, taken away. Especially for those who don’t enjoy WvW and have already put in ample amount of effort to acquire them. Those are the people who got impacted the most.
It would be like a pvp player or wvw player exploring the entire world, and the final map left … only to have the gift of exploration now require say … raid tokens or something other than world completion.
“Desert Borderlands and there’s been a vocal minority of players requesting that the Desert Borderlands map be removed entirely.”
~ fixed.
The results are overwhelmingly in favor of keeping the DBL. I just hope to see it in a 2 abl, 1 dbl fashion.
EDIT: at the time of this posting … 61% = No while 33%=Yes
Yes true, I just think it will be unlikely. After implementing elite class specs, I can see them just adding more elite specs. Personally I have been hoping for the return of the tengu, but again … won’t hold me breathe. I mean in gw1 they were fierce. I love the greataxe idea … it’s one of my favourite weapons in mmo’s. I just don’t think we will see many core changes versus new content.
Gear (aesthetics at least) should be tied to the level of the raid. If they implement casual raid, they should give casual raid gear. Normal mode = normal mode gear styles. Shouldn’t be dropped to solo, or make an explorable raid solo-able and give them there own explorable gear aesthetics.
Raid(r?d) : a sudden attack on an enemy by troops, aircraft, or other armed forces in warfare.
When we 3 or 5 manned Shadow behemoth, it felt very underwhelming. I mean this big giant boss should be able to wipe out solo roamers/small groups easily. That’s the point of world bosses i thought. i was sad.
But this thread makes me happy, I’m glad they have implemented some challenging content that can spawn at any moment. Pretty cool addition i thought.
Yeah, I felt that way too. Blitz through mini intro story only to see the portal blocked.
Free accounts require you be level 10 before hitting the major cities, and I believe lvl 35 for LA.
You only need to cross that restriction on one character though.
You will also need to be lvl 60 to enter world versus world.
There are a lot of restrictions that will be tougher on f2p accounts, namely no map chat (which is fine in your case as you can use party chat), and the other being the limited amount of items you can buy on the TP. It’s basically base materials to allow you to experience crafting. You can’t sell anything though.
So really, we are just missing a WvW exclusive only legendary back piece … why am i not surprised.
Anet find more ways to generate gem sales through WvW so it’s not just an after thought with 5% support.
Side note: The greataxe is the sole reason I played ff: arr … beastmode maurader.
Back on topic: I hope someday we may see these in game, but not holding my breathe. The game is pretty mature now and core changes (new races, weapon types, skills and build/talent tree, game modes) will probably not occur that much if at all.
Wow … nostalgic talking pre-wallet days … that brings me back.
So, again people are upset they have to WvW (drop in the bucket of time) compared to WvW players who have to pve to get the gift of exploration?
The PvE crowd is very vocal, like my children when they don’t get there way.
Don’t get me wrong, I was surprised how little something like this was communicated, but the amount of time required to get a gift of battle, pales in comparison to what people who prefer other game modes have to do in PvE.
To be honest, the legendary should be more balanced around the complete game even throwing in spvp, not just people’s preferred game mode. These are optional items that if you want, you should have to put in work.
Or alternatively, buy it from the TP if you do not want to put in the effort. By a long shot, crafting a legendary in gw2 is a very time consuming tedious at times task. I just don’t understand why people who want optional items, almost demand to have the easiest route that accommodates there preferred game mode.
So many times over the years, I’ve read the threads about (first) world completion requiring the WvW maps … and how many threads were posted about that. Now, they have effectively made it easier to get the GoB (you don’t get badges from sitting in a keep repairing a wall), but you do get reward track points every tick for your contribution. I read on another thread, some guy got 2k, from watching a movie on the other screen and just recapping a single point every now and then. Ever try doing world completion while watching a movie?
The people who actually lose out here, are those who failed to unload there badges in time, and to be honest, the WvW community. This change will not bring in more people to play WvW or follow some zerg, it will likely bring in a bunch of people who want to do the safest, minimal amount of effort to get the track complete, and a handful of afk’ers.
Anet could have made it a little more in your face about the change prior to, but they do things for their reasons.
And the Toxic people … are from both game modes.
Even more currencies
I would laugh if they only reward … badges of honor. (I seem to get resonating shards too for some reason)
Not real on board with this change, it has essentially time gated a portion of the legendary now.
This would add to the already time gated Bloodstone Shard.
imagine wvw being part of world completion…
Even then, the 4 maps with what, like less than 20 poi, vista, hp, that used to be required for world completion… was also a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of pve required.
But PvE won outright and had them removed as a requirement. Somehow, I have a feeling that it’s actually easier to get the gift now with the increased speed of ticks. You will actually get more rewards for the track in the same amount of time played.
A change like this though, seems like a waste of resources. Unless it was super easy for the devs to do, I just don’t see the point. Making a currency less valuable? It would be like removing the exalted cores from AB exalted vendor, and making it a reward at the end of a meta event. Does nothing but reduce the value of the currency.
Has anyone data-mined whether they are adding in something amazing to spend badges of honor on?
It also had guild halls which served as your home map for your guild versus guild battles. It was very much true to its name.
‘Peanut gallery’
‘Here to troll’
‘Dirt nap pro’
There are plenty of guilds … maybe you have trouble getting into one that fits your play style. These often have voice comms if they are not using server voice comms, and most of the social aspect is enjoyed once you actually are involved with your server.
sPvP is 5v5
The rest is situational. We have epic huge battles in WvW but our server is in t1. Just search up on the many forum postings about blobwars. Threeway keep battles are about as epic as they get in that game mode.
The server you are on, only depicts your WvW servers, so outside of that … if you prefer spvp you can find a spvp guild.
The PvE is meh … I was one of those who enjoyed the wow pvp style pve being on bloodscalp. But there is a huge community who do not like that aspect of play, so the pve is kinda easy to run through with only having to watch out for say champions, and even then you can generally take a couple hits while your farming to get that node. I agree with you on that. There is no watching over your shoulder in pve, but I think many don’t like it.
I love the prices atm. As a supporter who doesn’t mind buying gems with rl money … the amount of gold you get now is great.
But I feel for those who buy gems from gold.
(edited by Hexinx.1872)
I’m on Mag and we spawn killed your server to 2 weeks before the server mergers.
It’s true DH was on the rise and what happened was that it became the T8 bandwagon where all the lesser skilled lower tiered players hoped onto. DH then turned into a low tier blob server and ktrained doors till they got to T3.
When they got to T3 they soon realized that they had a lot of players that were willing to fight but they had a lot of players that don’t know how to fight, and have no coordination at all. Hence the T8 low tier bandwagon.
They thought they were really hot though but when you just blob down lower tiers you never have to fight anyone good so when you got to T3 you realized that pretty fast. NSP and EBAY at the time this was happening even though they had less players at the time always could provide Mag with much better fights than DH.
NSP and EBAY players were much more skilled and better. DH implodes becasue it was a bandwagon of low tier players that got farmed.
Had to +1 this. Best comment on the thread.
I was actually gearing an alt the other day and noticed the same thing. Seems like the merchants didn’t have relevant stat combos, and on top of it, the only exotic jewelery you can get atm is PVT in WvW. Thought each page would have them at the bottom.
Just means more work to get each piece but … was surprised something so minimal to add was not attainable. (adding items on a merchants is not ground breaking coding)
Anyways, no big deal, just means have to go get the things I feel my character needs in another gamemode. No biggie
:)

In real world economies governments have to step in sometimes to put a break on things. If a real world economy had such a rampant inflation it would crash.
Cough cough … Vancouver, Toronto, Australia have housing markets in the past two years which are a good examples of this.
