This thread is depressing on so many levels. If CD ever “improves” to the level of TC where players have to do sentry duty, players must be on VoIP, players must run around in at least 15-20 man zerg balls dutifully following the commander, and players must all wear PVT gear with masses of AoE fields/finishers for their utilities… I will say that I will be one of the first to transfer off.
No one on TC “must” do any of that. It’s all volunteer…. People do things because they have a desire to be better at WvW. Plain and simple.
INSERT LONG POST HERE
I respect your desire to make a difference in your server.
Honestly, if I were in your shoes, here’s where I’d start: Find about 2-10 people who are of the same mind as you, and start a serious WvW guild. Then talk to some commanders from organized/strong guilds that you’ve seen out there on the field over the past weeks.
Things you want to say/ask of experienced commanders:
1) Teach me macro-management. (This means top-down management of what your troops do at the map-level. When to go where, “when” is “what kind” of thing “smart.” I’ve seen some CDers do this very well this week. QL has been ninjad several times while TC was known to be off somewhere else)
2) Teach me micro-management. (This means learning how to read an enemy zerg and engage in zerg-to-zerg combat. How to control your own troops, etc.)
3) Teach me builds. (There will be a LOT of opinion on here, but you basically just want to come up with some solid BASICS for gear and builds. Getting off in the weeds is undesirable, but having a recommended (or required) choice of gear sets per class is a good thing. Not everyone should have to be identical, but getting people non-glass is a must for a guild.)
4) Theory-craft. Ask a skilled commander/leader how they know when to do what, how they communicate with followers, how do they issue commands, etc etc etc. There’s a lot of VERY basic stuff here that a lot of people just don’t know.
Be serious about it. Only take serious people into the guild (or people wanting to BECOME serious about WvW). Learn to function as a group. Let people know what you expect, but don’t be a jerk. They’re here to succeed and have fun as well. Don’t be afraid to learn, and to admit you “don’t know.” Don’t be afraid to screw up. Don’t be the centerpiece of the guild. Set it up so if you decide to leave, the guild stays together and stays strong under the leadership of other leaders you’ve raised up.
After a couple months you will have a strong guild, full of strong players, and other guilds on the server will want to get on the same page. It really just has to be something you decide to do something about, and then do it. It’s gonna be like a virus, honestly. Once people catch it, more people will catch it. If you can work for a couple weeks and get a core group of 20 reliable players that lay waste to everything in their path, you’re gonna have 60 before you know it.
Just my $0.02. It’s what I’d do. /shrug

WoW has charged $25 for a realm transfer for years now…PER CHARACTER. $25 is not “outrageous.” It’s better than the “Standard” mmo price.
Better to just make the currency the same way as Laurels/Karma/Gold. It needs to just be a counter.
SoS has done training for a long time, it’s just hard to get it it to stick without dedicated wvw guilds to reinforce it.
If Servers want to teach us something, show us something new.
None of this look at us sos look at us, we are doing portal bombs, learn from us
Be more specific. I’ve already seen a lot of improvement from SoS overall, but a generic “teach us something” doesn’t really explain what you want.
I would love to see FA get a bunch of transfers. Srsly. If you’re considering a transfer, go to FA. A little more coverage to make up the lack from VK and BT departing, and they could be truly scary.
The good thing about the new sytem is everyone gets to feel strong and weak depending on the week; but the inconsistency might make WVW non-competitive. It will make our beloved sport, a past time.
This is pretty much what I’m worried about. ANet didn’t think through the full effects of a system like this…
Pretty sure Anet is being optimistic about higher tiers unstacking their wvw pop to lower tiers to keep the matches competitive. ET and FC definitely needs help.
Sadly they just won’t get it short of making transfers to T8 servers free.

I think SM is fine. They need to expand the thirds outward, and balance them though. Inner towers should be able to treb SMC, but the fact that OL is the only keep which can treb it just just bloody stupid. Honestly the entire Red third is just mindlessly designed. It really doesn’t fit with the design/layout of the other thirds, and tends to be horribly unbalanced as a result.
EBG just needs a general overhaul in the “balance” category.
Let’s be realistic. Everybody on tc claims that winning by this much isn’t fun. but that’s not quite true, is it? tc has more people on this week than in any of the previous two weeks. Even though it may not be fun for the guilds, or the people who care enough to post on the forums, for the rest, for the majority of players, playing is so much more fun and easy when you know you can’t fail.
The amount of QQ in this thread is unbearable. I’ll provide the inverse of your statement for you:
SoS has less people on this week than in any of the previous two weeks.
Know yourself before you claim to know your enemy.
I’m not here for an argument, but… why would SoS have less people this week than last week, when we were facing SoR?
Because you consistently ticked higher last week than this week, while going up against the #1 server. The difference is that TC comparatively left SoS alone last week and concentrated on honing our skill against SoR. That’s the nature of TC, and we pretty much did that against FA the week before.
Now that you’re the primary target, your population seems to be much lower than the past two weeks. /shrug
I’m not gonna deny, though, that you guys have had pretty unfair matchups the last three weeks. I’d take my toys and go home if we had to face SoR for three weeks straight, too. It’s only “educational” to a point. After a while it just comes down to an insurmountable population gap.

i just want to say SoS and CD
welcome to TC while they are winning
They are condensing, even if they don’t mean itTC, imo, make better losers then winner in terms of forum posts
I would argue that the same things are said…and losing servers interpret them as condescending when we’re really changing nothing. It’s not a TC problem. It’s consistently that people like to see as an attitude change due to positioning.
Geez TC you keep coming over and over again and eventually you overrun our only keep! Where were you guys when SoR was here? xD
Playing with holographic creatures. People from other servers try to minimize it, but PvE events impact our WvW population in a huge way. Always have. We queued three maps on monday night last week. Barely saw a queue for the rest of the week once that event started.
Nobody cares about points when you can’t even move out from spawn on your own borderlands to cap a camp or tower lol.
The sad part is our points are increasing lol
Not this week. You’re down 26 points as of this writing.
Thanks for missing the point.
The system is “working” from a numbers perspective. The ratings are more accurate than ever. The problem is that a lot of people aren’t actually having fun anymore with this crap.
I wondered why there were so many ‘commanders’ wandering around LA that I never saw in battle.
Vanity is a powerful thing.
I would guess that 3/4 of all commander tags are never used in WvW. People just love to show off.

Very classy from NAGA, trolling CD north camp. There’s a lot of difference in being defeated and getting stomped with multiple concussion. You just can’t learn anything after that.
Could you be more specific with the circumstances you are talking about? pm me if you have to, i am just curious because there have been times where i have set up an impromptu fortified defense of the northern camp to just deny it from my enemies.
Or zombies. Lots of guilds play N Camp zombies as a guild drill.
“FA and TC are larger and BFF’s”
o.O
Obviously someone at SoS needs to go back and read some forum history. xD
Why would you wish that on anybody!
Touche…

TC,
First off, stop the big brother routine. You know, where a 15 yo beats his 10 yo brother at basketball and says things that sound encouraging, but are really just condescending because we are NOT your 10 year old brother.
Remind me never to pay you guys a compliment again. You should try taking the encouragement in the spirit in which it was meant instead of transmuting it into something unintended.
I do wanna say, SoS, that you guys have improved a lot of over the past 2.5 weeks. When we first faced you, a lot of your zergs were mostly glass, and you had very little organization overall. We can’t just willy-nilly charge into your zergs outnumbered the way we could when you first arrived against us and FA.
It seems now that your builds/gear have improved, as well as your field awareness and tactics. Your defensive skill has increased drastically as well, especially in EBG.
Honestly the way you fight when organized now reminds me a lot of FA. Scrappy and angry. xD “Battle hardened” might be a better way to describe it.
Hey everyone. [EP] is looking for GvG. Though we would like it to be 20v20, we will do 10v10 or 15 v 15.
Please contact me in game!
I’ll gladly challenge EP to a GvG. I’ll take you guys by myself. With my hands tied behind my back. Blindfolded. Ohwait.
If you guys ever run a small havoc group and want some small-man fights, send me a whisper in-game and I’ll tell you where we’re running. When we find each other, let the fight begin.
We are [FEAR] and [TKVA]
Actually we almost always have at least one havok/roaming group out and about. It’s one of our favorite guild activities. We’re wanting to improve our small group cohesion/synergy, so I may hit you up.
Nobody cares about points when you can’t even move out from spawn on your own borderlands to cap a camp or tower lol.

Go FA and don’t look back. Their queues will be totally manageable or non existent. Even on reset nights it doesn’t take long to get in there from what I’ve heard.
TC has pretty nasty queues nowadays during NA Prime, especially during matchups like this one. Lots of map completers out to play.

I didn’t get a chance to post it at the time, but I’m genuinely curious as to what the group of TC with the three golems near Lowlands on SoS about… an hour or two ago were doing.
I thought maybe you guys were building them up for a rush or something, but we owned Lowlands, you guys owned Hills and I still have no clue what you were planning on hitting with them at the sentry there.
It’s not unheard of on TC for people to build golems and just goof off with them, or obtain permission from a commander to mess with golems when people are done with them.
There was a 20+ golem goof-off zerg in EBG yesterday after Odinzu et al turned the place blue. I’m still mad I missed it.
Compote is great, and typically a “must have” for large zergs. I’ve seen myself go from almost zero health to full in seconds as the enemies begin to die.
Omnomberry Pie has an internal cooldown. I wouldn’t recommend it for that reason.
Saffron bread is a cheap alternative to the lemongrass poultry soup, though obviously the lemongrass is superior.
I also run trays of mango pies for my followers sometimes. Health regen, and vitality.
(edited by Hickeroar.9734)
That explains why it’s so easy to just run right past entire zergs.
It’s not like there are no ways to catch people with AOE. Ideally I’d hope it’s easy to run past them because they realize they shouldn’t bother pursuing you, but realistically I’d assume it’s a combination of low framerates (judging by screencaps people post around the forums, I think a lot of GW2 players aren’t exactly on stellar hardware) and that the ones who do try to catch you are also the ones who haven’t been around long enough to have learned when they should be ignoring you.
If you’re a single player and you escape a zerg, it just means the PUGs are starting to listen
If you’re a single player who is also an optimist perhaps. :P
I’m not even in a WvW guild or anything, I just PUG with the cmdrs who seem more competent and spend the rest of my time speeding up yaks or making/operating/repping defences, and I still mentally facepalm a few times during the average zerg. So many people flailing around incoherently. You know – the ones who if it were a bucket of water would splash over the sides with every bump. Even though they’re always getting killed as they stray too far, either they don’t mind or new ones take their places.
The general policy of TC’s commanders is: If you chase and die, no one’s going to rez you. If you rez a chaser, you’re getting left behind. /shrug
solution: we actually play Maguuma :p
Throw in FA, CD or any of the mob currently fighting in t4 and it’s got the potential to be quite a nice match.
Dont underestimate FA, their fairweather pop is rather large too, if they build up a head of steam early on, they can steamroll.
Also, they have a strong oceanic which counters yours.
But it would be an interesting regardless and likely more balanced than this current match.
‘Quite a nice match’ with FA conditional on SoS and Mag working together well enough (and playing to each others coverage strengths) to stop FA building up that fairweather momentum over the weekend :p
Of course, that might not even be possible, but it would be fun to attempt at least.
SoS, Mag, FA – FA comes out on top by a large margin.
I watched the first 1:15 minutes of the video and had to stop. The maker of the video didn’t even target one enemy during the zerg v zerg at the beginning. In other words, all he/she did was run forward and spam skills, ignoring everything else. He couldn’t even care less what the enemy players were even doing because he didn’t even target one of them!
How is that possibly any fun whatsoever?
I have autotarget disabled and in ZvZ fights, 90% of the time I don’t target anyone. Some classes/weapons SHOULD be played that way.
Lots of players do this. It’s acceptable/expected in most cases. Targeting a player, depending on your weapon, can lead to you shooting off in the wrong direction at the wrong time.
That explains why it’s so easy to just run right past entire zergs.
A properly disciplined zerg doesn’t chase down one rogue player…

@TSL: Great GvG vs KWBH. I especially liked the part when they randomly attacked the spectators and got wiped.
This is a bit disconcerting… Tkitten que is ridiculously long and were ticking at over 600. The same was true last night as well. I think I spent about 90 min in the que and we were ticking close to 500 then.
However, last week, against SoR (aside from reset night), I don’t ever recall having a que. This I have to wonder.. both SoS and CD are doing great in this match up, but when SoR was in the equation, there were more fights overall to be had, as they were all over the map. So I’d think people would be que’ing for the opportunity for more fights.
I wonder, why exactly is the que so long when were ticking so high with less fights on the map? It almost seems like some of us are opportunists, that is unless they are running around for their traveler achievement. I dunno, it just seems kind of odd to me.
1) There will always be fairweathers. Always have been, always will be. They’re not real WvW players anyway, and usually not a threat. Just spots on the map and annoyances to those waiting in the queue.
2) Dragon event. We queued a lot of stuff on sunday and monday last week, and ticked as high as +355 against SoR/SoS those days. Once the dragon event started on tuesday, our attendance plummeted. I think everyone has, by now, realized that the dragon event is bloody horrible, and moved on.
Geez. The venom started quickly this week. Take it easy, folks.
I like everything but the fact that it’s clear and you can walk/shoot through it. It should be solid and opaque. It should be something to hide numbers behind, protect from things like ballistas, etc.
They complained less because there were less of them playing …Think about that. If you want an argument about stagnation, we can have it. This system solves stagnation like a blender solves brain tumors.
xD
Best. Reply. Ever.
::yawn:: Wonder when people are going to get close matchups again – this blowout stuff is kind of boring…
Wait. Why does that say your home server is TC? And you aren’t guesting because that’s a BL you are standing in?
What sorcery is this?
We haz a you?
I’ll start this thread the same way I started last week thread: By addressing each server with my thought for the week.
TC: /cry
SoS: /cry
CD: /cry
ANet: Go home, you’re drunk.
As for my closing comment for the week…as if, yaknow, this means anything as a lowly forum-warrior member of a great guild:
Had some amazing fights out there this week with some truly skilled enemies. You guys are a classy bunch, and I hope to see you again someday on a more even “around the clock” field of battle.
We spent a lot of time in the field honing our field fighting skill this week and have come out a lot more skilled and hardened than we arrived. We might have scored a handful more points if we’d tried to take a little more property and did a little less fighting…but what fun is that!?
Shout outs to IRON, FEAR, and TYSM. Thanks for a great time. I’m sure we’ll end up together again in the matchup sometime soon thanks to ANet’s complete misapprehension of “what players want.” xD I’m sure we’ll all facepalm a little if we end up facing off again next week, but for very different reasons. :-P
Been a pleasure to see new faces on the forum and on the field.
(edited by Hickeroar.9734)
We stomped on FEAR and TYSM last night and the night before easily. SoR still had 20 more than we did. After we get through the wells you guys become glass.
This is an interesting rewrite of history.
FEAR stomped on TC repeatedly the night before last. TYSM was stomped the night before last because they were running about 30-40 against our zerg of 70.
Last night we learned some good strategies and ended up winning most of our numbers-even encounters, but “stomped” is still too strong of a word. They were hard won fights, and we still lost some of the fights anyway.
Celebrate our victories, but please don’t represent us badly by saying we stomped a server that has nearly twice our points for the week. We did better against them than anyone anticipated, and if the dragon event hadn’t started this week we would have done even better, but let’s not pretend we actually could have beat SoR.
TC is better than this. Stay classy in our victories, and defeats, mkay?
Here is another rewrite which is accurate history. CERN/ EP runs SERVER zergs. Consisting well over 70 people. Last night TSym was running 30-35, necro lowbies, and the rest mains. There were 3 other commanders on the map. We had (our) force, you had yours.
- If we do get matched up again, we will have to schedule more fighting in the latter of the week, or quite frankly any time. Our problem is the other night, when CERN/EP vs. FEAR/TSym was supposed to have glorious battles, TSym could not get our people in.
Other than that, mad respect for TC and their relentlessness! And also respect for SOS who are just as relentless.
TSYM may have had 30-35 people on last night, but that zerg was definitely far larger than that. We were on pretty equal footing with you guys number-wise, and our map wasn’t queued for most of it.
Yesterday was a CERN zerg with mixed other tags in it. EP had some members present, but it was a CERN led zerg. CERN was running guild numbers about equal to TSYM, and the rest were mixed other guilds and Militia.
Your necros though. SO MANY NECROS. omg. You really have got that side of things down to an art-form.
Edit: Was FEAR queueing the entire map themselves two nights ago? That’s the impression we got. FEAR tags EVERYWHERE.
(edited by Hickeroar.9734)
Here’s to hoping for an SoR/BG/Tier8sucker matchup
and a JQ/TC/DB or FA round up.
Take one for the team ET
I would love DB/TC/JQ or FA/TC/JQ
Better idea is to stop doing this RNG garbage and give players what they actually asked for.
Players just wanted it to be less “tier-breaking” to progress from one tier to the next. Before, it required one server to smash their tier while a server in the tier above collapsed.
All players wanted was for this process to be “compressed” or “reduced” to the point that servers could rise and fall easier.
Instead we got this hopped up mutant of a system.
It’s not about the advantages. It’s about the passion/desire. There are no “advantages” to having the tag unless you want to go through the grueling process of earning the trust of those on your server and learning how to actually command properly.
At that point, being a successful commander can be very rewarding and fun, especially if you have a guild supporting you.
You will not get any warm fuzzies when you buy a tag.
Funny to hear TC crying about numbers since TC does this with numbers to most other servers.
Eh, it’s just one guy. T1 has a larger WvW stack. Anyone who whines about it just needs to get over it.
/shrug
Why wait for a guild to challenge you. You should go and look for fellow travelers.
However, I do recommend that if you guys go and do GVG to control your spectators. This is a gentleman’s game outside of the normal WVW thing where opponents can be civil and hopefully be friends. Who knows, might play together in the same server in the future or something outside of the game.
If you walk into WvW you’re fair game. No kittens given about your GvGs or duels. If you want to hold hands, go PvE.
And this is why SoR has no good GvG guilds.
TW is an SoR guild and they just beat Agg, who was arguably the “guild to beat.”
They are currently on JQ and I until I see them back on SoR, I won’t believe otherwise. Indo and TW are surprisingly unpredictable, who knows maybe they will end up staying on JQ. I know they’ve been saying they are having a lot of fun over here and everyone is enjoying running with them, it wouldn’t shock me if they ended up staying.
SoR gives us foot rubs and tells us we’re pretty…..
What if we give you foot rubs, tell you you’re pretty, and bake you cookies?!
So long as you’re aware asura rubs conclude at the navel
I guarantee you we could find you a RP guild willing to fulfill this requirement.
I look forward to seeing you on TC!
:-P
Got some Moon God veterans over there eh?
Never thought of them as the flightin type o.O
Oh, no, we’ll just hire RPers for the massages and foot rubs. We slip them money on the side to keep our WvWers relaxed and ready to fight.

for the sake of survival, can there be a peace treaty between SoS and TC to fight vs the endless hordes of rall?
No. We just spent a week where SoS refused to attack SoR. Actions have consequences. You should’ve probably thought ahead and not irritated a server you’ll likely be paired with many times again in the future, seeing as how you’re gaining rating and will likely be stuck in match ups against higher servers for awhile now.
Last night, SoS controlled almost all of SoR’s EBG holdings for a while.
SoS also took SoR’s garrison and hills last night.
SoS focused us plenty too, but stop making junk up trying to make us “look better.”
What the heck are you talking about? And congrats, a span of 4-5 hours doesn’t equal a week.
You said SoS refused to attack SoR. That’s obviously not true. Even more important, I saw several SEA timeslots where SoS was CLEARLY focusing SoR and leaving TC alone. The only place SoS was mostly agnostic about it was EBG.
… congrats, you’ve achieved the status of troll if you seriously think that statement was made as an absolute, what where one person could flip a camp and make it untrue. I still don’t see where you’re pulling the “make us look better” part from. I mean, who’s making up junk now?
The point was, SoS for the vast majority of this week, made some absolutely moronic moves this week when TC left them alone. You don’t have to look far for examples. (heck, this one you even responded to) So now, the OP is asking us to leave them alone. Why should we, when we saw the results this week? Given, things might be reconsidered if they reverse course, but that’s gonna take time and it has to be shown. So stop dissecting words and “making junk up.” A point was trying to be made, and you’re just detracting from it, and going off topic.
So I present data that disproves an ignorant claim you made…and I’m a troll? GG.
Narf.

I personally hope for DB/JQ/TC, though that would probably leave FA in a nasty position.
