Can anyone confirm if these dragon coffers drop off enemies in wvw? I want that staff and shield for my guardian so bad but grinding mobs just.. bleh.

I don’t know if they drop off players, but they do drop off NPCs. I got one this morning. Only played for about 5 minutes, too. Not sure what the rate is.

I think this entire game needs a Counting Workshop. Seriously, it not hard to figure out the size of a zerg just by looking at it, this goes for your own. If you were outmanned 3:1 you’d have the dumb outmanned buff and literally would be less than 20 people, which you guys(mainly TC really) would have, and you guys are running easily 40+, a server can’t have more than 80 people on a map and i’ve never really since any side other than in tier 1 run a blob bigger than 60.

Please, l2count.

No way man. SoS had a 350 man zerg on EBG earlier.

Hmmm WvW down atm…. what to do.

We did a multiguild (CERN led) zerg of Balthazar. No exagerration, we think we burned him faster than he’s ever been burned before. He went from full health to dead in about 20 seconds.

I’d love to know if that was a record.

Nice work TC with the mega zerg in EB earlier tonight. It was fun trying to maneuver around and clean you guys up, but you really brought it! Just curious how many you guys actually had though… anyone know?

EB is usually the first queued map of the evening, and usually stays queued the longest. Depends on what time it was though. We generally queue it more toward the later evening, unless Zudoari is in there with his inevitable megazerg in the afternoon.

I take exception to the “Sos doesn’t want to attack” comment there. When we have only 10 people in TS and only 20 stacked on the commander, there isn’t much to attack with when all targets are T3 and brimming with ACs and Ballista.

Anyhow, let’s move the QQ back to our thread. Even if it was TC and their BFFs at FA against SoR, this would still be a blowout.

Hello Hickeroar,

The key foundation to a strong WvW experience is Teamspeak.

Voice comms beats team chat in many ways:

1. Efficiency – It takes less work to lead and coordinate.
2. Speed – TS speeds up communication by 300% or more.
3. Civility – This is often overlooked, people are more civil on Teamspeak vs team chat, the same person that seems sarcastic or condescending on team chat is usually a normal guy on TS who is curt on team chat due to the problem of text thoroughly communicating finer ideas.

Point number 3 is key to building a good environment in WvW.

The most crucial is this. Barring language differences, the major guilds have to be in a server TS otherwise it will never work. If TS is empty you will never get pple in, but if you have a guild of 10-20 guys on one channel, it will get filled up pretty quickly with militia who want to coordinate with the guild. If that guild is successful you will soon get pple asking about builds and strats, that is when important information about strats, builds, ideas gets shared (points A,B, C in one go). That’s makes it a great WvW experience for all the folks in the server.

FW

I’ve noticed that a lot of what seem to be SoR militia are pretty sturdy. How do you properly explain a build to them: A) without coming off as elitists, without offending their precious hard-earned armor, C) in a way that communication is taken constructively and seriously?

SoR does seem to have a great track record in getting militia on-board and trained, and I think it’s a huge part of their success.

Our community server is mumble, as opposed to teamspeak, and there’s only one or two guilds that don’t share it.

Guilds communicate cross-channel, or join in the same channel, and there’s a lot of coordination. A large portion of our militia are also in mumble with us, but the “majority” of the militia are not.

We basically have a policy that we will encourage VOIP, but never “require” it (as if you could enforce this anyway), and commanders are encouraged to either type in /say as much as possible, or have their orders transcribed by someone. This happens…some of the time. xD

There is a clear and distinct difference between a T3 skill level and a T2 skill level. It’s like night and day, when you put a new T3 server against experienced T2 servers.

Yes, population has a ton to do with winning, obviously, but 30 people can wipe 60 people if they are “skilled” about how they do it.

ELLE OH ELLE

Anyone who has been through the high-tier promotion process will back up what I’ve said. T3->T2 is especially jarring. T2->T1 is more of just a numbers game. If anything the tactics are LESS aggressive in T1 than T2.

You sound like a noob when all you can do is laugh, without presenting why you think I’m wrong.

Ok, where you are wrong is the “clear and distinct difference in skill”. What you say about population and coverage is bang on, that is the difference between the 1-3 servers and 4-6, and then again between 7 and a lot of stuff below it. If the T2 servers had such a high discrepancy of skill over a T3 server, then any 25 man guild from a T5 server should absolutely, positively, and unequivocally never be able to do this to said higher population and higher skill server, because they haven’t gone through that progression so there’s no way they could ever match said skill.

I’m talking over-all skill. There are times on EBG that SoS has every bit as many players as we do, but their zergs are highly unorganized and wipe pretty easily in head-on combat. They’re simply not skilled at doing zerg fights. THIS is what I’m talking about.

Once TC came back from the two week haitus when DB moved to T2, we discovered the same thing with many of their native guilds. Sloppy and disorganized.

TC also ran into the same thing when we first hit T2. There were several weeks where we REALLY had to catch up before we got the hang of things. Just look at our history since the hop to T2.

Skill is a HUGE thing. It’s not everything, by any stretch, but it’s still incredibly important.

Agg, on the other-hand, transferred to like…T8 at one point. They were WAY overskilled for that tier. I’m by no means, saying that very highly skilled groups can’t be on lower tiers.

maybe I can explain: EB is playing FA this week.

-ken

That doesn’t tell me anything. FA has a much larger WvW population, obviously, but if EB had a very skilled guild-zerg of 30 players, it wouldn’t matter a whole ton that they had less numbers on a given map

Last night, an EP zerg of 30-35 laid waste to SoS/SoR’s holdings on SoSBL, while a CERN zerg roughly the same size was taking property on SoRBL. /shrug

I think any successful WvW guild should have their players play in s/tPVP as a guild activity just to work on cohesion, synergy, and generally learning how to fight while keeping a cool head.

That said…s/tPVP play is entirely different than WvW. The tactics really don’t overlap in any area.

tPVP teams would probably do amazing in small roaming bands, though, assuming they didn’t get run over by a zerg.

EP, in T2, have wiped zergs up to twice our size, sometimes without a whole ton of effort. A concentrated, trained DPS/Healing ball of 25-30 is a lot scarier than a zerg of 60 unorganized players.

Thanks Az. We are hungry to learn, and this week is going to be excellent for us on that front. Please don’t think our flaws are lost on us.

Also, the history of Aurust trolling T2 threads is far different than he pretends it is anyway. The real story is that one player, once upon a time, made a comment that no one really knows if T1 is that much different than T2 because of how borked the matchup system was. Unfortunately, Aurust took that as a personal challenge to tell us all how inferior we are at every opportunity.

No one was ever debating that T1 was a different animal than T2. T2 vs T3 is just as stacked, or more, if you look at the numbers. DB/Mag/SBI last week, for instance, and FA’s match this week.

I really do appreciate the great, encouraging attitudes by SoR as a whole this week. You all have been great in-game and out.

I REALLY hope we don’t end up in T3 next week or I might just take the week off. We’ll see…

Funny thing is, as you guys will probably experience this week, the skill level is not even in a T1 server. There are top, average, and below average guilds in every T1 server.

Yeah, we’ve seen some guild groups who are very strong/scary while others just melt. I think it just comes down to Guild’s goals in WvW. Some are there to provide an organized presence, others are there to be scary balls of torture. :-P

(Also, please stop dropping ACs and Ballistas when you have more people than us, it’s just bad form)

From what I saw last night, this is probably the most ironic statement I have come across all week.

I think they were referring to open field ACs and Ballistas. Most of our guilds have an internal policy against them since they’re kinda seen as troll siege. I’ve seen SoR drop a few, but nothing glaring. I’m sure TCers have dropped a few as well, so…whatever.

Typically we see open field siege, pounce on it, wipe it, and carry on.

As far as I’m concerned, if it’s behind/on the walls of the structure….ACs are fair play, and the more the better.

I’d love to give you guys a brutally honest perspective, as well as advice…. unfortunately, it will be interpreted as trolling or trash talking or whatever. So you will just have to figure it out yourselves.

All i can say is that your field fighting tactics/capabilities are subpar compared to JQ and BG. Though I will say, you guys do have a greater willingness to actually engage in combat as opposed to running away.

I’ve been in your tier 2 threads quite a few times trying to stress just how far behind tier 2 ( it was obvious from the tier 2 guilds that moved up to tier 1 like war machine and rise) was compared to tier 1 and was just brushed off. I think its fairly obvious I was proven correct. I won’t rub it in any further or make any further comments. Take this post for what you will.

I thought of doing a real response too, but public forums aren’t really a place for this kind of feedback. However I disagree that they are far behind, just lacking in a few aspects.

Thanks Az. We are hungry to learn, and this week is going to be excellent for us on that front. Please don’t think our flaws are lost on us.

I still don’t understand why TC is showing so poorly this week. Yes, they are T2, not T1, but they have the population of a T1 server and have been at the top of T2 for weeks. Per Devon, “servers are matched up by proximity of rating”, and TC certainly qualifies without any RNG component (sorry SoS).

SoR are getting massive points from SoS at this point, and our coverage during SEA is skilled, but low in numbers. SoR has very strong SEA coverage, and we get rolled pretty bad during that timeslot.

SoR owns most of SoSBL for 18 hours a day. TC is ticking around 200+ on full-day average though, so I expect SoS’s relative score to decrease as the week goes on.

TC is also weakest on the weekend, traditionally. We’ll see how the week itself goes, but I expect us to have a few pretty good NA prime-time days.

If this had been JQ/TC/SoS, or SOR/TC/DB, I suspect things would have gone rather differently. SoS can’t provide enough pressure on SoR, unfortunately.

To their credit though, SoS never gives up. They have a great spirit on that server.

Over-populated servers vs un-populated servers (due to quitting) are not going to give you any realistic data now, or in 3 more weeks.

While I don’t agree with the NOW or IMMEDIATELY crowd I do agree with this. I’m not sure ANET is getting accurate data form TC, SoS, Mag, Ebay, DR, HoD, ET or FC. How many folks on those servers aren’t playing because they are getting rolled , or are bored by rolling servers with inferior coverage ?

Fixed that for you, because both are a real problem.

Cool cool. Thanks for the responses. Yeah, PVT is definitely a favorite among people in the “know” here. I personally run the new (and now somewhat rare) Sentinel gear, which is pVt as opposed to Pvt. I’m usually one of the last ones to drop in any lost fight (guardian).

We have started a push in the last month to get militia into mumble with us, and have met with moderate success, but still have a good ways to go on that front. It seems we need to start gently harping on builds/gear as well.

And that was a good point earlier by LameFox about the karma vendors. Most people have gobs of karma stockpiled by this point, and nothing to use it on.

Thanks for the tips folks.

ive constantly run against the guilds the same size as urs like MERC and ATM.
i can tell u one thing, u guys come out and fight, tough it would be ncie if u could run with a little less nos for a while so we dont get huge lagfest.

but its been nice.

Yeah, I’ve never seen skill-lag as bad as this matchup. When we ran in and defended hills on SoSBL last night (just as west inner went down), the lag was so bad that a couple people got rubberbanded right INTO the bridge itself.

I was on the bridge fighting one moment, then teleported to the entirely opposite end of the bridge, then found myself dead on the ground in the ravine below the bridge…. It was very bizarre.

As far as “u guys come out and fight” goes: open field fighting has become one of our favorite things to do in TC since we hopped back up to T2. I think a lot of us would rather open field fight than worry about taking property half the time. I think the taking of property ends up just being a means to that end sometimes. xD

How is this matchup finding the fights? Having fun I hope?! Snuggling fiercely?!

The fights during NA Prime have been fantastic. If we could just keep that segment of SoR with us every week…I’d be a happy camper. Last week a lot of us pretty much stopped playing for the most part and got bored because of a lack of NA Prime fights. I hope things continue like this all week on the TC front. The last 24 hours have been really fun for us…and I’ll say that really surprises me.

Way too many berserker builds IMO. If you’re going to make it in T1 you need to outlast an initial burst, not just make one and then die.

I’ve noticed this a lot amongst some of our “less trained” militia, and you’re right. Our guilds have an overall good grasp on builds and are pretty sturdy, but we have had trouble with rallying half an enemy force due to the death of one or two squishy militia following a guild group.

This distinct thing happened several times last night, actually. At one point we had essentially wiped an SoR zerg, with 2/3 of it down. We lost a measly two militia, and almost every one of the SoR rallied…which turned the tide of the fight in SoR’s favor.

I’ve noticed that a lot of what seem to be SoR militia are pretty sturdy. How do you properly explain a build to them: A) without coming off as elitists, B) without offending their precious hard-earned armor, C) in a way that communication is taken constructively and seriously?

SoR does seem to have a great track record in getting militia on-board and trained, and I think it’s a huge part of their success.

I don’t think Nightlight sleeps much, and when he’s on, he always has a strong following, ‘cause you get LOOT if you can stay on his tag as he pushes. Also, he’s really fun to listen to in Mumble. ♥

I know I started following him about 13 hours ago… he’s probably still going, but I’m at work so I can’t check.

Yeah, CERN is on quite a bit, and they have a really solid group of commanders. When EP isn’t leading anything, I love following CERN. Our guilds have a little bromance going on, I think. <3

I saw a comment earlier about SoR netting 80 Man zergs, and I can tell you last night in Bay that was just not true.

Yeah, there was a notable lack of SoR on the map during NA prime last night compared to what we saw all saturday and early sunday. I believe it was the [FEAR] guild who had the biggest zergball, and they ended up having to map hop quite a bit. I think they eventually divided their forces or something. Either that or their numbers significantly dropped at some point. It may not have been FEAR though. Hard to remember. I was up past my bedtime.

I think TC and SoR were running about the same numbers overall last night, and TC have just become a little more skilled at map hopping than SoR is, just because there’s more of a need for it in T2. It was a really fun night last night though.

I’ve noticed that a lot of the SoR guilds are a lot tougher in the “bunker” sense during field combat. You can tell there’s been an emphasis on good gear/trait builds, or just intelligent choices by individuals.

If there is one thing that this match up has taught me, is how stacked the tier 1 servers are compared to tier 2.

You could say the same thing about T2/3 as well. Actually, I think it’s even worse when a T2 server is “demoted” to T3 for the week. FA and DB have spanked T3 harder than SoR is spanking T2.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that SoS would/should have been at the top of T3 before the matchup changes.

In any case, the top three tiers could be locked in by rating right now, and would be excellently stacked against each other.

Actually [Agg] have been wiped many times so far this match up by BG guilds and by JQ guilds. Not putting Agg down, they are definitely very good at what they do, but there are also many other guilds that are excellent too.

By coming into our forum and stating “I’m guessing that that fight did not go so well for JQ” is only bait for flaming and QQs. There is already enough of that in this forums and it’s disgusting. So I kindly ask that you don’t write posts in our thread that will fuel the fire of hate even further in this match up… especially considering you aren’t even in this match up.

Thanks for the fights today TW, a lot of fun had.

I was speaking to the fact that JQ was spread all over the place in that shot and Agg was in their “ball of pain” formation. Agg also clearly outnumbered JQ.

In that shot…I’d put money on Agg. :P It wasn’t a troll. Just an observation.

It’s still impressive that they can get so many people to cooperate like that. If you aren’t winning and handing them easy bags, WvWers on TC won’t typically won’t cooperate with anything. They’d rather go off and tie up queue space dueling, rping, and doing other random stuff.

Are you sure you’re on our server? O_o

Yup I am. It’s an awesome server, but trying to get people to cooperate can be pretty frustrating at times. Particularly on TCBL.

Cooperation generally is only a real problem on TCBL though, and that’s only “sometimes.” We’re learning to improve in that area, and I think this matchup is going to help us learn a lot in that area. I’ve been very impressed with the coordination I’ve seen by SoR on their BL.

Sometimes cooperation is tough on EBG, but you can almost have no tag and EBG just works on autopilot.

Enemy borderlands are generally run by guilds, or at least “the guilded” who are almost entirely in mumble together, or with commanders communicating cross-channel. I’m really proud of TC for the level of friendliness and cooperation shown between guilds and guilds leaders who share the battlefields.

Yaknow…of all the things I miss about a straight, normal T2, it’s that with SoR on the map it’s nearly impossible to solo/duo/trio roam anymore. One of my favorite things to do these days is to get out there on my D/D ele with a couple friends and stir up trouble, scout, havok, etc.

Every time I’ve tried in this matchup…we end up with a fun little brawl….and 15 seconds later about 10 more SoR jump into the fight and spoil the fun. Either that or we get run over by a 20 person zerg or something. Small group roaming with anything less than 10 is just not all that possible.

SoR has amazing attendance, for sure, but I want my roaming back. xD

A guild of sPvP players in WvW would be a freight train through the borderlands and steamroll everything in their path (PERIOD)

LOL! I invite you to try that brilliant idea. When you’re picking yourself up off the floor…then we’ll talk about who just got steamrolled.

He’s trolling you and/or he’s being disingenuous. Or maybe just dense.

I really hope I was being trolled…because anyone who thinks we actually outnumbered SoR on SoRBL today is clearly delusional.

I think the biggest unified force we had when we were fighting at any point today on SoRBL was about 40 players. Most of the time we were running in the 20s, maybe hitting 30. I even had to go to Lion’s Arch and broadcast for people to come into SoRBL to help us since our numbers were so low….

really good standoff on sor bl, between bay and gari, sad that u guys wanna only fight under ur acs

we are still waiitng at the sentry if u feel like fighting outside ur ac coverage.

really boring standoff on sor bl, between bay and gari, sad that u guys outnumber us 3 to 1 and still complain.

lol that’s rich considering you’ve outnumbered us every single fight on sor bl today. but obviously one sor player counts as 3? that’s a compliment I guess

You must be out of your bloody mind to think you were outnumbered. Like…seriously…utterly…loopy.

I don’t even know how to respond to this. Other than the early open field fights where we were at a 2:3 ratio against your numbers (us being the 2…while your dead respawned and streamed in from citadel), you guys have outnumbered us 2:1 or 3:1 in every engagement.

SMH. Unbelievable.

so about 40 hours since the reset, we still have 16 blow-outs occurring over 18 total matches..

Wait…isn’t this what people asked for?! Oh wait…no it’s not.

It’s annoying, but sadly that will be much more prevalent in EB, where a lot of commanders watch the flow to determine where to attack next, rather than working towards an overall strategy. I’d hazard that most would have the sense if they saw TC pushing SMC or the Klovan/Jerr area, to support that by hitting WC/Aldon, but given that this is a match where both of us are being pushed pretty hard, the more common situation is likely to be seeing you getting hit at QL/Langor, giving rise to the obvious temptation of Durios/Bravost.

We spent about 4 solid hours last night pushing the klovan / Gol / jerr area, and had to wipe SoS in the Durios area a pile of times. We also made a few advances toward SMC, but it was too tightly patrolled.

Quit fighting each other SoS and TC

I wish this was possible, but SoS seems to have an obsession with TC only… :-/ SoR will be pushing TC….and SoS sees an opportunity to join in the fun or something. It’s been the source of a bit of frustration in TC this week.

I don’t know how much more obvious than “TC and SoS make sure you 2v1 us so it’s an interesting week” it can get.

/shrug

I’m hoping the (usually pretty strong) weekday NA presence can give you guys a run for your money, at least in that timeslot. :-) They don’t call it Tarnished Tuesdays for nothin!

There are MANY new commanders on SoS and they don’t know how to play the 2v1 game or predict next moves by opponents. This matchup is learning experience for them. On atleast SoS borderland during NA instead of keeping lowlands and south camp and pushing bay yesterday I saw TC pushing Cliffside. or north camps alot. Both servers have people who don’t just focus SoR

I would love to see SoS enter SoR’s territory in EBG at least once. Just one time. Like…once. Seriously.

Instead…it’s been two days of “Oh look! SoR is attacking QL again! I guess we can go take Durios again!

SoR takes QL, SoS takes (or tries to take) Durios. Over. And over. And over.

EB is it’s own game. It’s just people grinding wxp. just put 2 scouts at durious with acs and the pugs won’t touch it.

EBG is not a WXP grind. The majority of our PPT from weeks like this comes out of there, and the same goes for you guys. We take EBG pretty seriously anyway, and have a few dedicated EBG commanders.

The problem is that when we need all hands during an undermanned timeslot, and SoR pushes QL…losing two people in durios when you only have 20 on the map is a big impact. Normally it’s not a big deal because there aren’t 80 man enemy zergs running around the map, but this week is a very different story, as I’m sure you know. Also, two ACs will not stop a bunch of catas taking down the durios wall.

I guarantee you, if TC saw SoS focusing SoR…we’d focus SoR too. Instead we’re trying to push OW somewhat often just to keep the pressure up to keep SoS in their third…

I think the constant assertion that PvP players are more skilled is because they need to reassure themselves and, like Amins said, their ego.

Nah. Some of them are very good in small group scenarios.

The problem is that in WvW, those kinds of things are limited to roaming teams…which is a ton of fun…but wouldn’t stand a chance in any sort of real large-scale engagement. Organized zerg tactics are ENTIRELY different than small group combat tactics.
