Being able to permastealth (uh…permanently) is completely possible on a thief. You rob yourself of a lot of fighting ability, but you can stay hidden indefinitely.
It’s not an exploit.
The problem here is ArenaNet.
To modify a rather iconic movie quote. “ArenaNet, stop trying to make sPvP happen. It’s not going to happen.”
The fact that they’d become SO desperate to make a broken and unpopular gametype work that they would intentionally utterly destroy another gametype….really makes me wonder how inside-out and upside-down the brains are of the people running the show at ANet.
What they’re gonna get? Fewer players. Players aren’t going to migrate to sPvP (people hate it. Get with the program.). Players are going to migrate to entirely different games.
I don’t think they are intentionally damaging WvW, they just don’t know any better and are not willing to accept the fact that they might be wrong.
As the saying goes…Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
But you are right that screwing up WvW won’t help sPvP, or any other part of the game. I have absolutely no interest in sPvP. I prefer larger teams to smaller ones, and I hate the limiting gear system sPvP has. If Anet ruins WvW, which ranks are already doing, Bloodlust is going to damage farther, and Season 1 is likely to finish killing, I’ll be done with GW2 completely. It’s been too large a part of my enjoyment of this game to keep playing without it. Getting back into WvW was a major factor that kept me from quitting this summer.
You need to watch “the video that shall not be named.”
sPvP’s rules, gear choices, and class alterations make it a completely broken option for GvGs.
Thiefs should be nerfed in wvw, or disabled even, they threaten the ‘integrity’ of wvw.
It’s silly to think that thieves are the problem here. ArenaNet doesn’t, can’t, and won’t think about the impact on singular classes and mechanics. They can’t/won’t even think about the “big picture” of how this will destroy the gametype (again), so what makes you think they’re going to take the time to look at the micro?

so how did an organized tc guild get crushed by 20 commanderless FA militia with even numbers
that’s really sad
I heard 3 FA D/D zerker thieves autoattacked a 70 man TC zerg to death.
Wow TC, so embarrassing.
Nah, I was there. It was only 2 FA D/D zerker thieves, and one of them was upleveled.
I just think ANET is lucky that there is no competition for them this and big part of the upcoming year in MMO games. They can be as lazy as they were(and are) for the last year and keep feeding us with all the lies they prepared.
TESO and Wildstar are both supposed to be out in the next 6-9 months. Not sure about archeage. FFXIV just came out too, but their PvP options are still a mystery to me.
My $0.02:
Up to 25v25, a proper game type to support it, gear setups/variance comparable to PvE (not the crap PvP gets to choose from currently), and none of the “stat nerfed only in sPvP” crap that does stuff like make thieves weak (and others).
Thanks for the GvG IRON. Glad we got to sneak it in before the buzzer. <3
Thanks for the fun week, SoR and SoS. I’ll be taking my leave from WvW/GW2 after the reset tonight (due to changes IRL), but the fights and events of this past week make it a great week to go out on.
This community has been one of the best I’ve ever been a part of. I may be back someday! Keep on keepin’ on!

If you watch Sacrx’s video (hopefully I don’t get in trouble for mentioning it), he builds a pretty convincing (you might argue “airtight”) case for exactly why ANet doesn’t want GvG to be a thing in WvW, and why they aren’t interested in adding it in as a game mode. The “orb” buff really was added specifically to break GvG, and Sacrx explains precisely why. That claim made no sense to me either before I watched his video.
Edit: Point being, I’m sure they know of some great venues they could convert and create to support it. They just aren’t interested in doing so. Hopefully that changes in the long-term. I would say it’s unlikely in the short/medium-term.

GF 7 Agg 0
If ya watched the stream the last fight you’d notice a few things……
Whatcha mean? I was only half paying attention at that point.
Stream for GF vs Agg http://www.twitch.tv/xxkakarot
Thanks!
No! plz dont let the orbs affect stats! I dont care about Wxp or Karma, but dont let it affect other stats!
The fact you don’t care about karma and WXP is precisely why they went for a stat buff. If you don’t care about the buff, you won’t fight over the buff.
People will fight because fighting is fun. :-)
A commander will see an enemy train on the control point and go “nope” and lead his zerg to the camp.
The points would hold zero strategic value, thus wouldn’t be on their radar as a priority target.
Oh, I just mean in general. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are nearly round the clock small groups and people all over these points just duking it out for the pure fun of it. Heck, I might be one of them occasionally.
Yeah, an enemy zerg might go there, but you’re looking at a MINIMUM of 2 full minutes to capture all three points (if you split the zerg 3-5 ways), and that’s more than enough time to have one of your keeps golem rushed out from under you. Any commander with an ounce of macro-management skill will take advantage of that in a heartbeat (or avoid it him/herself).
I don’t think smart commanders will attempt to control these points with a zerg. If they do, they’re only hurting themselves.
My $0.02 anyway.

Thanks for the fun fights on EBG tonight, and thanks to Choo for the classy GvG. /salute
Keeping random piece of lower level armor and you lose your rune as well. Remove a weapon and you lose your weapon attack. Trinkets? How would we know that you are not using the level 80 exotic ? Foods can’t balance what the orbs can reach. There is no way, anet will ruin the gvg scene with this buff.
I was just thinking of running some numbers and having a few trinkets (for instance) you could trade out for some lesser items (greens, rares, etc) that would give you lower points on those stats. You’d have to keep various setups to lower in case of a 50 point, 100 point, or 150 point advantage. Trinkets would work best because you would have a lot of options for selectively replacing things. It’d take a little math and a little gold, but it could be done.
I don’t think you’re very familiar with what a Klingon is.
Sounds like a great idea for the new guild.
Klingon Thieves [QPLA]
We should massacre the dolyak parade….. It may be worth it to see what may possibly be the largest flood of tears ever witnessed on these boards.
Yeah, nobody has ever had that idea before… :P
Yea, but this is combined with such an overwhelming slaughter…….. Not to mention the general toxic nature of this thread. Im tellin’ ya…. this could be precious.
Haha, I think most yak parades are attacked. It’s a pretty common thing. The people running the parade are really classy about it, and generally don’t mention it in the thread.
The amount of defeatism I’m seeing around our little section of the forums is pretty kitten depressing. While things may not be swinging in our favor at the moment, that doesn’t mean its the end of GvG. The sky is not falling. Where there’s a will there’s a way ( and probably insert some other cliches in here as well), but I have faith in our community and peoples dedication to finding fun at all costs! All this woe is me crap needs to stop, people need to start focusing on finding new outlets to let our fun continue. This kitten ain’t over till the fat lady sings.
You’re right, and thanks for saying so. I think we can still figure this monster out. Things might look different, or be a pain in some category, but I’m confident we’ll find a way to carry on.
Where there’s a will, there’s a way, and all that…. I’m pretty sure there’s a will. :-)
On that thought:
Maybe it will just look like keeping random pieces of lower level armor or trinkets around to change things up on the side of the team with a stacked buff, so the relevant stats take an appropriate hit. Dunno, just a thought. In any case, all is not lost!

Have you read this yet Devon?
“After a careful reevaluation of orbs of power we have decided to remove them from WvW in an upcoming build. As implemented, orbs tend to strengthen teams who are already winning and make it even more difficult for underdog teams to fight back”
This was posted by Habib Loew.6239, one of your own designers.
This. :-(
Please reconsider the stat boost. I think we all realize that since the patch is tuesday, we’re gonna see the buff in WvW at this point. But I would ask that ANet please pay attention to both a combination of player sentiment on the issue (both now and after launching it) as well as noting its impact on the game itself. Please keep an open mind about modifying the bonus to better suit the players desires and the health of the game.
Parts of it are awesome (the stomp bonuses and the map changes are great ideas), but the per-player stat boosts harmed the experience significantly in the past, and will undoubtedly cause a repeat of the same problems.
I would humbly ask that in the near future you consider altering the boosts to buff things like siege defense, or siege damage instead of individual player stats. MF and WXP boosts are obvious options as well.
(edited by Hickeroar.9734)
This is starting now, btw.
GL, HF, and GF to both sides!
However regarding the “poll”, I have no opinion until I try the content. It helps to not be closed-minded.
Not sure if you knew this already, but this buff was already in WvW back at the beginning. The mechanic to get it has changed, but the buff is nearly the same. It caused snowballing back then, and the fears that players have about it are not unfounded, and not without prior evidence (proof?) to back them up. :-/
The buff was removed by the team led by Devon’s predecessor, IIRC. Players have been asking for a modified (MF/Gold-based) buff to be returned ever since.
Wildstar seems to have alot of pvp formats also
Sadly though I don’t think anything will compete with the level/depth of combat that GW2 can offer. The combat system in GW2 is simply amazing. Combo fields alone make it a diamond in the rough…
I’m not holding my breath for any of the upcoming options.
I think TESO will be good for the “macro” scale of combat (top down strategizing), but the field fights….I’m far less hopeful. Wildstar is up in the air. We don’t know enough about EQ Next yet. ArcheAge looks pretty similar to TESO, but again we don’t know enough. CU will be one to keep an eye on, but it’s gonna be 2-3 years before anything reveals itself there.
As they say….time will tell.
There is nothing deep in GW2 combat because everything is wasted – combat is a mess.
Wildstar will have all PvP features: arenas, bgrounds, open PvP with OBJECTIVES, 40v40 Warplots and a combat system mixed of best arounds mmo (builds diversity of gw1, dash, double jump etc).
Why would you say combat is a mess? (Genuinely curious, not doubting you have reasons for your opinion).
When compared to classic MMO combat schemes (slow, stand still, wait for cast time, move again, long gcd, etc), GW2 seems to me to be filet mignon in a field of hamburger….

YES. Because someone of us enjoy the rewards of winning.
Sadly this doesn’t reward someone for winning. This rewards someone for being on the server with the highest population.
As you’re on a T1 server, your argument makes a little more sense from your perspective. T1-NA is the only (somewhat) population balanced tier in the game. Unfortunately it breaks the game for everyone below T1. :-(
Had a great time on EBG tonight. Thanks to TW, WARD, and others for all the fights and challenging play. :-)
No. That is not a possibility at this time. The point of the buff is to affect the WvW game mode as a whole disabling it on your character would lessen the value of the buff to a server and completely invalidate the whole point.
The point is to keep GvG alive. If the new orb system kills GvG (and it might) WvW as a whole will begin to slowly crumble.
I think that it will obviously affect GvG, but I’m just as concerned about the “big picture” in WvW. While EP does GvG, we spend dozens of hours every week doing standard WvW and using it as a platform for fights and getting better as a guild.
If we wipe a group with even numbers and we have +150 to all stat points, we didn’t really prove too much. We just got an unfair boost because our server has more population than whoever we were facing. Snowballing, as they say.
I think the nature of the buff in general will do harm to WvW as a whole. GvG is just a piece of that.
I genuinely LOVE the mechanic of capture points, and I think that will do wonders for breaking up the blobbing mechanic. Unfortunately the buff is unfair. :-/
I think the capture points will go a long way toward breaking up blobs, which is a great thing, IMHO. One big blob won’t be able to hold the points and protect their assets at the same time.
The buff itself is not going to do anything to zergs except make one of them OP.
Expect next GvG Showdown to be the last in a long time, if ever. I’m moving on to other games. Will deliver a couple more bullets in one form or the other GW2wise, but I think im pretty much done short term.
No sad goodbyes, cuz its not like im dying. No fee makes for an easy return if devs suddenly do things right… but i really need a new game (im figuring gtav).
Also Sacrx trilogy should be out in the next few days.. he had some codec issues but first video should be hitting his channel very very soon. Be sure to not miss those.
:-/ Really sad to hear this. Let us know what games you are gonna be messing around with so we can fanboy up and follow you. xD
I actually did Sorrow’s Embrace with a couple devs last night after the TW match, and got an opportunity to talk with them briefly about GvG.
I can confirm that the existing GvG team was disbanded.
Marty – Thanks a lot for the hard work you and your team put into this. Great job. :-)
I wish I had a team :p
Haha, in that case thank YOU!
Welcome to Tier 1, NS!
Did NS transfer off DB?
Really looking forward to this matchup! Is anyone going to be streaming it?
GL to both teams!
Marty – Thanks a lot for the hard work you and your team put into this. Great job. :-)
It’s “Realm-wide,” so the assumption is “yes.”
6-1 EP
Sorry, typo’d the original score.
(edited by Hickeroar.9734)
xD This would be amazing. I’d seriously pay to see this.
While I do agree SoR blobs much harder due to their coverage and numbers, don’t kid yourselves and think you can beat SoR with equal numbers.
But we did in SOSBL, just ask [Hel].
Why not try picking on TW?
TW runs crazy numbers. You’d be hard pressed to find any TC guild that can match that and have an even fight with them.
In fact, I would like to see TW split itself in half this matchup. I think they are good enough to get away with it and god knows it would be good for my lagg :P
TW runs 20-25 TOPS and has militia with them. CERN runs crazy numbers. Do you know how to count mate? Maybe a GvG from any TC guild with TW would be interesting..
<3
CERN? Crazy numbers? Maybe a few months ago.
Not anymore… O_o
just MOVE your Gvg to the JP and problem solved what is so difficult with that?
The buff is realm-wide. JP would have the buff. PvE gets the buff. Etc.
Agreed. Would love to be able to toggle it.
I think the saddest part of this change is that, almost unanimously, WvW players were against a stat buff. The potential for (or inevitability of) the aforementioned snowballing is obvious, and you will end up with the stacked server controlling the buff for the majority of the time.
I really wish ANet had listened to their players on this one. :-( It should have given an upgraded version of the outmanned buff, and if you hold all three you get the free armor repairs. What we got is likely to be very gamebreaking, as it was proved to be before.
Anet is going to kill the game mode just when things are getting really competitive.
Don’t count it out yet. :-) Players will find a way!
Ascended is another tier of attainable gear. Down-statting it to exotic would be like down-statting exotic to rare. Doesn’t make sense. :P
Thanks for the fun week guys. Hope to see you all in the near future. Thanks to Agg for the GvG and awesome fights all week.
GL to everyone in reset tonight! May your matchups be challenging, and your fights be rewarding!
Dat round 1…crazy!
Yeah, i think it lasted like 4.5 minutes or something like that. I didn’t even play that round and I was having a heart attack the whole time.
EDIT: It was actually like 3 minutes. Oops :P Still a long fight though!

I concur with the above poster. Mesmer is a great fit for what you’re looking to do. I spend most my nights back capping camps solo with mine.
This is also a good call. I didn’t think of that.
Based on what you said,
Ranger…..not great at a lot of things although with beastmaster it makes taking camps simple as the pet can tank for you.QFT, I was going to suggest the same thing.
Rangers are great for roaming groups or solo. Lots of good builds available.
Thieves are great too, but barrier of entry is higher.
What do you mean barrier of entry is higher?
Playing a thief (and staying alive) is a lot harder. People QQ because they get killed by thieves, but those thieves have largely done their time and learned a class that’s truly not easy to play. You have to grind on thief for a while to become “good” at it.

Yeah, getting….interesting. Gonna need some kind of verification system moving foward, methinks.
