I hold my own against thieves on my mesmer, as long as they don’t surprise attack me. Thieves aren’t terribly hard when you see them coming.

The only time I find them truly annoying is when they attack while stealthed from behind, and then laugh/dance on your body. Especially if they have a buddy. What they did wasn’t a fair engagement, which is fine in the “rules of war,” but it’s still really darn annoying. :P

I’m really looking forward to season 2 and hoping ZDs is joining SoR or SoS or TC and we will see what happens.

ZDs joining SoR will create a giant snorefest for everyone and would break the game.

ZDs joining TC would probably put TC ahead of SoR. Already having anemic Oceanic and SEA, ZDs would start the day with everything in enemy hands and would spend their entire time doing PvD. If they like that kind of thing, then bless them.

ZDs joining SoS probably would have us take TC’s place (not enough to go T1 most likely) and they would be even more bored since we typically lead in T2 at the end of SEA. If we faced T3 or T4 they’d become expert spawncampers and/or catch up on their PvE.

The best thing for ZDs would be to head back when the season is over, since there is no where they can go that doesn’t unbalance NA.

It’d be interesting to raise SoS to the TC bar. TC has kinda been in that cliche “T1.5” position for a while and it’d be cool to give them some company there…as long as our NA queues didn’t start looking like theirs. /me shudders.

That said, I really love the relaxed culture and unique playstyle here on SoS, and anything that threatened that wouldn’t be welcome from my POV.

Talking about map queues vs “outnumbered” on t1 servers is just giggle inducing.

You guys should spend a week on a server like SoS. All our maps have the “outnumbered” buff 21 hours a day when facing T1 servers.

Only strange thing is the preference to split into so many squads. With so few people in any individual squad, it’s impossible to take anything except camps and ruins. Defending is easy; one scout report goes off and every squad goes to the attacked objective. But we can’t take anything substantial. Why do we split up so?

Interesting that the thread was killed off this week. I definitely think it deserved it, but the BG/SoS/SoR one was 10x as bad and it survived.

All is right in GW2 again. GvG Showdown is back and suddenly there’s 5+ Upcoming matches on gw2gvg.com compared to the 1 or 2 that’s typically been there since Orbageddon. Now we just have to get NA to start using it again cause it really was extremely helpful in setting up matches before.

I definitely want to encourage both EU and NA guilds to make threads about their matchups here in this forums, especially if you plan on live streaming.

most GvG’s dont happen in NA gold league is because “indo xyz” is a dictator in sanctum of rall, who for some reason is deemed a God. Anyway, GvG’s aren’t allowed to happen unless he gives the okay, I have heard this from every guild on SoR.

EP + Agg – probably best practice anyone and any guilds can get and it’s good they travel together each night (past two nights have been full of fights). Don’t see anyone else really any more but it might be they are on different maps, maybe 2am still too early.

Agg and EP run separate as guilds (typically), but Agg usually ends earlier than EP, so some of their members come follow EP around. We have a pretty good rapport with one another, and work well together. <3

Is there much dueling going on this week? I changed mains to my mesmer two weeks ago and I’m needing/wanting some 1v1 practice.

Haha, there’s probably no chance of that happening. Most TCers aren’t willing to consider leaving TC. It’s a very stable server. Probably the most stable WvW-wise in the game (save for maybe JQ). They took a few hits with a few guilds leaving recently, but they’re still tons stronger than they were at the beginning of the year. Slow and steady progression upwards. :-P /salute

Besides, we can’t have fun fights with CERN if they’re on the same server. :-P

For a similar reason, I was surprised to see EP and Agg end up on the same server. I miss watching their GvG battles.

Agg transfers habitually, so I’m sure they’ll be elsewhere eventually. It’s just their style. They like to travel. :-P

I definitely would love some kind of guild cmdr tag, as would most of us. I really liked Bad Element’s idea of making the tag your guild logo. Makes sense.

That said, it’s probably not an easy change to make. Having to manage how you get on in the first place, how you enable/disable it, making it only visible to reppers, etc, just means there’s a lot of details to it.

I don’t think it’s a HUGE task, but I think it’s still more complicated than people initially think, and there are just a lot of competing priorities at the moment. I definitely think we’ll see something like this eventually.

Maybe an easier solution is for users to apply a guild target to a guilded player and it’s all personal, just like ctrl-t can be (if you’re not in a party). You “ctrl-g” or something, and that target is your guild logo, and you’d have to be able to see it on the mini map. That way everyone sets their own, and it’s minimap visible. Everyone wins. (EDIT: Sounds like Shunt just suggested almost the same thing. /me learns to read.)

It’s about finding the right group on the right map. There are only a couple fight-chasing guilds, so if you’re elsewhere you’re missing it. :-/

It’s probably both. Easier access to everything in there. I personally couldn’t do it because I hit ESC fairly often to lose targets, but I’ve thought about it.

Jadon’s one of TC’s best. If he gets frustrated, it only means those following him are doing something wrong. And he’s always been a great commander.

I was the oPP mesmer that transfered to TC for awhile to check out your servers wvw. Although I did find that voice chat to be quite funny, I still have respect for Jadon. How many commanders would take time every week to hold meetings with new players to wvw to give them some advice. I’ve listened to him in TS many times while I was on TC and he is one of the most polite and respectful people in the game.

He’s also blindingly sexy.

Congrats to CHOO on their GvG.

EP have been one of the best challenges and have had significant impact on how Choo does GvG’s. I’m not on the GvG team myself, but I know pretty much everyone in it, and a lot of thought and effort was put into improving GvG strategy since the first one. Not only that, but some of these improvements have even spilled over into our regular WvW retinue. So thanks, EP.

I love the continually evolving world/meta of GvGs and watching guilds (like Choo) improve and grow. I can’t wait until the new GvG area opens in the JP and we can start tracking ratings officially again.

I kinda lost hope in ANet for a while there, but I’m very glad I was wrong when I stated that they’d never do anything in support of GvG. <3

I think it’s great. Knowing who we’ll fight every week, before we start the week, has been very nice. It’s also great to see how we’re stacking up against the other servers even though we’re probably going to come in 5th in the gold league.

Population issues could mostly be solved this way:

Your server’s historical performance should set an expectation/goal for the next match based on who you’re fighting (their ranking/performance). A winner will be picked based on the percentage of the goal that they reach. The goal calculation should be based on probably the last four matchups or something along those lines.

Ex: In BG/SoR/SoS this week, it could be said that BG will have a 250k goal, SoR a 200k goal, and SoS a 100k goal.

Now if BG gets 300k, SoR gets 160k, and SoS gets 130k, SoS would technically be the “winner” because their percentage of goal was 130%, as compared to BGs 120% or SoR’s 80%.

This way every server has a relatively even chance of winning, and you end up playing for a goal that is achievable for your server. You can still “win,” even if you’re the underdog, two tiers out of your league.

Winners for a particular week get a prize of some kind. Bonus WXP or ranks, Karma, gold, and/or something like that. You will also see that the winners will change from week to week, because servers that do exceptionally well one week will have a higher goal to reach for the following week. Then, because it’s percentage based, the less populated servers in their matchup will have a better chance at getting a higher percentage and will probably fight harder for it.

Edit: I would also say that you should actively tweak the algorithm that determines the next week’s goal, as relying on glicko rating and such doesn’t seem to accurately set expectations for a week. (Look at how much point gain low tiered servers have when going against high tiered servers, for instance.) It should not be a “set it and forget it” kind of thing.

They are driving a lot of income from finisher sales right now. No way they’re going to kill one of the core mechanics of the game’s combat as well as get rid of all that income.

To be fair, if sPvP had met GvG’s needs from the get-go, this wouldn’t even be an issue. :/

If they alter sPvP to the level that GvGs would become legitimate and workable, that would precisely be them folding and supporting GvG, even if they didn’t call it that.

I think the public’s view on sPvP is pretty obvious at this point.

Interesting comparison… While chem’s stream might not hit 2k, it’s only 500 viewers below the ESL sPvP finals.

Do you think with the orb changes that maybe some guilds should step up and attempt 10v10 in the custom arena format just to see how it actually plays out? Would be nice to hold like a week long tournament and get as many top GvG guilds to try the 10v10 while people try to figure out how to deal with GvG under the new Orb meta. I can’t think of a better time to try it than under the current chaos of Tuesdays patch.

This already gets done as practice. Everyone hates it in comparison. sPvP, without major changes, will never work for GvG.
