Instead of large battles or even not so large one’s, when you are going around quickly picking up your drops with your Interact button. Sometimes you might pickup an equipable item you didn’t want to. Or you are now talking to NPC you didn’t want to.
So the suggestion is a way to get loot without having other unwanted events to happen. Have an option to separate it from the Interact button, just for itself.
Or have an option to auto-pickup loot by just moving over it.
Good day sir.
GW2 is one of the most abysmal experiences of my life!!
You lived a blessed life or your a master of huge over-exaggeration.
Or just go play another game. Really if Dungeon Mode is that important to you, DDO is better. It’s a whole game built on dungeon mode and they have like 5 different difficulties. You can solo, trinity or not trinity. And it has a LFG tool. Or perhaps wait for Neverwinter.
What you are suggesting though is a lot of change, most notably having a whole set of other skills that would allow the trinity roles and expectations other games have. I would say the safest thing is to accept what has been given to us. If it’s that big a deal that it doesn’t do what you have to have it do, then move to another game. I’m not against what you write, but what’s the chances? Like .000000001%.
You now if u read i did say this game looks great, i still say it does, if they want to pat themselves on the back for it they can on theyre own time lol. for real man i like looking at the envirments when im fighting and such, and if i really want i can stop and gaze where and when i want at my lesure, and i do. as far as finding those one paths or jumping like mario to get 100% map on an rpg, nah brah.
Did read it, I still feel it gives pause. If you can’t do it, then don’t. If you don’t want to do it, then don’t. The rewards are not that great, you can achieve them by hitting something else instead.
About promises and delivery. There are reasons why I wait for players to chime in before I jump in the water, usually. Now can they throw a change up at us mid-stream? Yes. But by then and if tragic, I’ve almost always got the $/worth on my end. I recall spending $50 on <10 hours gameplay and many games still sell like that today, I guess I’m more half full then have empty on most things. I don’t expect to live day in and day out in a single game for years, however some do, it’s what makes the world go round.
You’ll be disappointed to hear that vistas were not originally part of the game.
Ha i wouldnt say disapointeed, but now knowing that it makes complete scence, becasuse tahts all vistas feel like, somthing to drag out and waste your time, as if we were paying to play WoW! lol
One could counter, it gives pause to the talented artists at Anet, to sit back and focus on “hell yah that is a cool looking place they created there”. I have a screen shot of every vista I’ve ever triggered, to me they deserve it. That is one reason I’m fairly adamant about only having open world PvE gaming in GW2. Give these lands the respect they deserve, by using their assets over and over, the gfx are just too good to see them just once for a split second. With a strong system (and sweet fx) this is the best looking mmo imo bar zero.
The first two things I have are:
1. You are concerned a bit with server population. You didn’t mention what server, would you mind sharing?
2. You say hitting 75 you hit a wall and even downleveling you can’t take on a bunch a trash mobs at once. What profession are you playing? I hadn’t noticed that and have asked for deeper penalties in downscalling as I’ve grown too strong. I’ve passed 75 and didn’t notice what you are experiencing.
I have found new fun, meaning something that doesn’t happen until you hit Orr in terms of end game runs (you can call them GW2 Raids I suppose) on the Cathedrals of 10-40 players, at least on the Magumma server, which I would call it a middle road pop server. Good fun there at least for a while.
By the way I love vista’s and all the map completion points. Brilliant, yeah some are challenging, worst case go to youtube. But that is ok, lets have a little challenge, map completion is a big deal. And I do agree map completion withing PvP area’s is controversial.

P.S. GW1 is superior in every aspect.
Even in open world grouping DE’s?
Nah. Rift is best at that.
How in the Hades did Rift enter the conversation? And I didn’t find theirs better at all, however there has been some gloating of DE improvements from their expansion. Perhaps today it is. If there is one thing taken from GW2, is that I hope it makes general open world gaming better for future mmo offerings. It by far has the best open world game I’ve played, I’m usually a dungeon runner (aka instance runner) in mmo’s like Gw1, but in this game I find the dungeons not needed and a possible thorn now.
(edited by Horrorscope.7632)
I personally find myself torn regarding the Trinity.
Another option (not saying for this game) is for all classes be able to be anything at a click of a setting. A Tank Stance, Heal Stance, DPS Stance, Support Stance, Jack of All Trades Stance. That way any 5 people are still a viable group, sure you have to negotiate who’s taking what role. But I could see that a viable alternative to how the whole mechanic plays out. This would keep trinity and make everyone viable if they are willing.
P.S. GW1 is superior in every aspect.
Even in open world grouping DE’s?
Does no one follow the dev interviews and livestreams? Whether or not it’ll be a flop the dev team is actively working on implementing e sport features such as custom arenas and spectator mode.
First I hope it still is everything one would ever want for e-sport, pvp balance etc. But I’m also of the belief you get one first impression almost always. There is a very small sample of some mmo making a major players # breakthrough after a content update. The game usually peaks at release and dwindles from there, if it’s great (very few) it grows. To have this Feb. PvP content patch have people rethink GW’s 2 as a E-Sport sPvP game, isn’t smart gaming business based on what I would think is historical tendencies.
However if I were hired and this was my job at Anet to make this work… I’d keep making it better and better, but the big focus would be on the next expansion. Have everything and I mean everything in place and have one of it’s main selling features be E-Sport PvP and it best be ready. You could get the surge there. If my part still wasn’t ready, I’d expect a pink slip.
All you have to do in PvE in press 1 and you win. That is mindless.
Depends on where you are talking. Trash mob, probably so. But there are plenty of encounters that strategy if one were to call it that, will fail. But then I think of other games and their trash mobs, most would probably fall to with the most basic attack.
Next fall if it has a bunch of new cool stuff, yes.
If you want good fps, you have to buy decent Desktop PC.
Laptops were never designet for games. Yes some laptops can handle them very well but those are laptops for 1600 euros and higher.
You cant expect to have medium to max setings on some avarage laptop. Go out and try Tera, Swtor, Rift on your laptop and thell me if Guild wars 2 is badly optimalized, because its not.
I have two on sale $750 laptops that run GW fine on High (haven’t tried WvWvW on them I typically play on a desktop), they run every other game even better that I’ve thrown at’em. Both i7’s one with a radeon, the other a nvidia product graphic card.
I don’t remember who it was who said that gamers have a habit of buying a game that is stated to be one way, in the hopes that it will change.
I don’t know who, but many people tie the knot in hopes it brings change. When that doesn’t work, the next hope a baby will.
I haven’t seen a single example of teamwork, and it’s specifically because combat is a free-for-all DPS zerg.
I have, in just my last session of play.
Not a chance lol.
Is there any chance you will elaborate?
I, for one, am interested in what your reasoning is for your opinion.
I’ll give you my reason why not.
1. sPvP is the only place it has a shot to be an e-sport.
2. SPvP was under developed out of the gate, that is when it had to be spot on to be an e-sport. You can’t fix it a year later and then all of a sudden look at the game again as the next big thing. It had to come out of the oven ready for e-sport prime time to gain mass acceptance in this manner. That ship has sailed.
3. Game does too many things, to be an e-sport it needed to focus heavily on sPvP, it did not.
Those are three things that LoL had from the start, those are the key elements.
It’s a well known fact that GW2’s PVE is horrible.
Lol, well known and fact.
You can have the best specs in the world and still get bad performance. Terribad game engine.
You could also get good performance to. The thing is, is those with great specs, why aren’t they getting the output they should? I can’t answer for 1000’s of configs… I have very good specs, but not the best, I also have solid performance.
Got my guardian to 80 yesterday. Malchor’s Leap and Cursed shore are pretty dead. Waiting for people to kill Dwayna last 24 hours, I see only few people running around, others are bots. Dead zones. GL to new players in empty zones with no one running around.
What server are you on? I got to 80 last week, on Magumma I figure it’s a middle of the road pop server. There are sometimes it’s lean, but other times 25 or so. Arah area in Cursed Shore seems to be possibly the most popular Orr location for people to gather and run.
As for another stating contested way points, sure they are there but the area’s are fairly manageable and there seems to be at least a couple/few per zone that never get contested, so you want to grab those and then you can trot over to the area you want to be at.
Perhaps mentioning the server can help, for some reason a lot of people like to really be anonymous which that kind of info, which I find strange. We won’t laugh too long once we know what server you are on. Until things change, that seems to be the best way to figure this out and get you to a proper server.
Sadly games under wine does not meet as good performance as under windows.
Someone mentioned just yesterday I believe it was that he is using Wine and getting pretty much identical performance between that and his windows boot version.
Most video cards are not fully utilized in Guild Wars 2. My GTX 670 is quite literally twiddling thier thumbs. My CPU is working like hell though.
Because the game is CPU bound and not GPU. The game isn’t sending more data to the GPU then it can handle, hence it’s not being worked 100%. In this case the GPU is totally optimized to a point it doesn’t even need to work hard.
I think nvidia can release some better performance drivers for gw2 though,i mean how many times did they do this ? Once perhaps ? How many times do they keep releasing drivers for other games stating it will give you XX% more fps yadayadayada, ive only seen this on one of their drivers for gw2,they havent even tried optimizing it for gw2 any further at all.SLI works fine most of the cases, but still not optimal for one..
Exactly my point. Trust me, we all are just foaming at the mouth to get better performance in Batman Arkham Asylum, I mean, if we didn’t get our bi-weekly 8% boost to this fantastic title, we’d all just lose our kitten. Better not try to pry them away from REAL projects like that for our no name game Guild Wars 2.
Hence what this is all about, It may not be directly Nvidia’s fault, but they’ve done nothing to help the problem.
But that is it they have done something. They have (Nvidia) discussed it publically, they have released an updated drivers right around release. They then said there isn’t nothing more for them to do that it’s on Anets side at this time and it seemed Anet agreed. Other games have other situations around them.
Now my soap box part of it… I never understood why the gpu company is responsible for releasing new drivers for a released game to run better? Think about it. Lets say the version today is version 10 of your driver software, there have been 1000’s of games released for all versions 10 and below, most run great. Now you have a gaming company working on a new game, why are they not optimizing for version 10? What is this reliance on an unknown version 11? Why would there be a need to. I just never understood this strange chicken/egg thing. The devs have in their hands mature driver software, there are 1000’s of examples of success, why are they writing things for something that doesn’t exist and not for things that do exist?
alot of people have stated that if you want 30fps min you need to have a 3rd gen intel OCed to around 4.5 or higher, if i were you guys i wouldn’t expect a change to the coding anytime soon
We have had an update recently on this. They are working feverishly on performance/culling, there is a group, it’s a major redo and in their words these guys are “Rock Stars” who are doing this. There is no eta, but it’s being addressed, they don’t know what else to say to us above that.
There is already a history with all of this, this has been discussed, they have talked about it specifically. There also has been Nvidia updates for GW2. They have then said, the rest of it at this time is on Anet, the issues aren’t on their side… CPU bound.
ANet has officially stated that Legendary stats will be bumped to Ascended when Ascended weapons are introduced.
The problem I have with this is the fact that Legendary weapons should be the pinnacle and nothing should match them save another Legendary.
So, what’s the point in going after a Legendary weapon if I can get one of equal stats, easier, in Fractals ?
The entire purpose of pursuing a Legendary weapon is to obtain something that cannot be obtained through anything else but hard work and due diligence.
It was discussed publicly all along that it would only be cosmetic, the game at level 80 at the Exotic Level to be the end all stat wise. From there anything else was cosmetic differences. That is what they referred to as Horizontal. But something happened along the way.
Orr is easy. Barring a Champion giant, I can go lone wolf without problems. I don’t know where the mass CC chains you guys are talking about are, because I’ve never been stunlocked or incapacitated to the point where it got frustrating. Hell, the anchoring mobs that pull you in might as well do a song and dance before they attack you, because that’s how easy it is to dodge.
I agree and I like to just be plain ole honest with what I see. I will agree with the person who said “Veteran Risen Abomination”, those guys are tough. And in some cases they are surrounded by adds, you don’t solo those, you are not supposed to solo those encounters. But in general, I have been pulled, but it’s rare. Yah every so often you can get into a fight that brings a little more then you would like, but that is rare to, but that was also possible in levels 1-79 as well. Most of the time you can pull a single mob or two and blow right threw it. There is plenty off open space imo getting to Way Points, then using them when needed when a cathedral run is on as not all WP’s can be contested. I do use a sprint skill to move more briskly, I would advise on placing one, it isn’t required but can definitely help, I run past most mobs without retaliation.
Again, I am only dieing quickly to the RISEN. I can take on 3,4,5 normal mobs and live through it fairly easily, Only the risen tear me apart. All of my gear is 70+ so its not like I am ignoring it. No exotics except for my bow. If my build is good enough for 70 levels, why all of sudden do I need to change it?
Now dont get me wrong, I can fight 1 or 2 risen and sometimes even that is a risk depending on which risen it is, but you get 3 or 4 and its pretty much lights out.
I’ll I can reply with is “I did not see this issue myself”. I didn’t have exotics when I first entered either and I didn’t have this “I owned previous content, to being owned”. For me it stayed pretty much the same, I could take a couple few trash at a time inside or outside of Orr. at near level. Hmmm….
I’m not sure why we should think we should do 3+ at once. Now I can get your point if you are talking outside of Orr and down leveling. The game is too lenient down leveling. Yes an 80 running well under their level can face roll many at once, but I wouldn’t expect at level to be the same experience, nor did I find that right. I’ve been one for more take-away more stats when down leveling. The point is is to meet up with others and still have a balanced game.
(edited by Horrorscope.7632)
Whats the point of levels if everything is downscaled?
I think they’d agree with you, but they know people love them their levels. So walla… Levels!
Both games are good, both games are much different from one another. I could see someone who loved GW1 being upset. To me this should have been another game from Anet with a different name. To me it is different enough to warrant that.
So let me get this straight, What you are saying is there are only cookie cutter builds that are viable and if you stray from those then you shouldnt be able to play the game? Excuse me, then why the build structure at all then? Why not lock everyone into a particular build and forgo the ability to customize your character at all. The fact that I can destroy a normal mob in mere seconds and can take on any veteran mob without worry of ever dying tells me that my build is pretty decent. Yet when it comes to risen and risen ONLY, do I have issues where I can die in mere seconds. My gear is decent, my weapons seem decent, nothing has changed from the entire rest of the game with the exception of the risen being stupidly over powered
The person you replied to did mention proper build. If I have one or not, I wouldn’t know. I’m using a build that I like and I don’t think it is considered a trick one, probably would be considered more inefficient the efficient if it were judged by the best players.
When I made it to Orr I was level 80 with level 65 gear. I also had enough karma for a complete armor set from running dalies and almost enough gold for exotic weapons and accessories. I also had to get to the Lost Shore for the armor I wanted, which was all the way on the other side. I was able to make it there without a big issue and found the area neat overall, yet another well laid out, interesting looking map. It took a second day to make it there and was lucky enough to find a surge of people running Arah, once that was won I dropped my nut for full exotics. That then made trekking Orr that much easier to get all the map landmarks on the 3rd/4th day. I would think you need to sort of balance the area for full exotic players because ultimately one would spend more time there dressed that way I think. But to be clear, yes 80 exotics are better then 65 non-exotics, but it’s not like twice as powerful, it feels like about 15% more powerful. So even average 65 gear to me was ok.
I’m on the Magguma Server which I find sort of in the middle from reading on populations. Sometimes it’s thin, some times it’s hopping. If you are on a server always thin, I would suggest finding your way to a more populated server. I do sometimes think of moving myself, but then I get that surge. Yesterday I went back to Queensdale, wow it was really hopping there after the Christmas surge. I took off some armor and ran around with them for a while.
Now all that said, I’m still in favor of what we call “under-flowing” around these parts. I would totally strive to make all open world maps feel alive with people and events. That to me is GW’s2 bread and butter.
I recently made it to Orr, I’ve read threads like this for months, assuming Orr was this nightmare. I found it nowhere near what I read. The mobs, still have plenty of space between them to get around and aren’t any tougher then things I faced all game long. The one difference are the Cathedrals, yes most will not be able to solo them, but other large Meta’s and Champions throughout the game that can be said to. I found this personally well overstated, the harshness that is Orr. I guess character builds can greatly vary in this game.
Amra I really don’t think you understand the concept. You can not steamroll low levels. I have 2 lvl 80s and while I have no problem with mobs at lower levels I am in no way steamrolling anything.
First I agree with the OP’s concept and what is happening for the most part. However they don’t downscale enough and I do steamroll/faceroll anything at lower levels. There needs to be more taken away when down-scaling. However I do agree with level appropriate drops, because that is what makes down-scaling ok for an 80 to help a new character out.
Almost all of the game is solo-able.
Except the coolest things the game offers.
Gw2 is a “no dedicated healer” game… ok… but it doesn’t means that there is no healing system at all.
Yes, this is one of those things from Gw1, where you had some vocal feedback that it could take forever to kill a PvE or a PvP because of healing while fighting, and in some cases it really did. Obviously this is something they acted upon for GW2 and made it imo (and I could be wrong) to a point where team healing/repetitive healing in general doesn’t work the way one is conditioned to. So what do we do? We learn what is being offered and adjust.
The flip side to this is, GW1 you could have elongated PvE battles because of heals, but now for GW2 some encounters they just boost HP way up on the enemy and thus you get the same effect, so it could be debated what’s the real gain here? I personally preferred GW1’s handling of it, I could have seen some tweaks vs seemingly an overhaul. But I adjust.
If just one person in the group wants to kill something you do it.
You want people to care about what you want yet you absolutely don’t care about their opinion. Why would the rest of the party change the way they do things just because you want them too? Don’t enforce your playstyle on other people, let them play the game in a way they enjoy.
Isn’t that a two way street? I mean why does another get their way and I do not? One runner, means everyone runs or dies typically in games like this. I guess games aren’t like movies and you don’t get “the way the director intended”, just the path of least resistance.

That’s a solid for the price and will do pretty well as a gaming laptop.
I find healing so weak that I don’t personally see it as a dedicated role. I’ll splash some here and there. I’ll rez when it only makes sense, meaning we both won’t die. I figure most people are playing that same role and if more of us are rezing…. all the better. So I can still do both of those things, kill, receive a gold and get the girl. I suggest you find your balance in all of that as well.
You want a smooth experience, killing one mob after the other and leaving the area before they return? Do as I do, play a warrior and pick up a greatsword. You’ll be long gone before respawn.
First of all that isn’t true of all cases and second of all, yeah that seams reasonable, everyone play Warrior Great Sword Wars 2. Why even answer like that?
DDO has struggled years with this. Speed runs are the norm there, new people are lost, spirit of design is blown up. There are ways around it, but once the cat is out of the bag, the whine is great when slowing grinders down by making them run a dungeon how the director designed tried to design in. So in DDO they have a LFG tool and notes, there they put Speed Run, Flower Sniffer etc.
This happens all the time, if you are easily insulted like this, get out of video games and fast.
I’m not understanding on what this has to do with the overall economy?
If you can’t make more on the TP than a vendor, sell it at the vendor and vice-versa.
I have not received a drop that would make me instantly rich, but I recently got to 80 and have 20 gold and a lot of Karma Jugs. So what happens at 80? You want really good Exotic Everything right? I’m actually pretty impressed doing the math that I’m reasonably inline to get what I need at 45% map complete.
I’m looking at 4’ish gold per weapon that could be 2-4 pieces depending on your sets.
Trinkets and slots around another 15-20 gold I would say.
75 Gems are around 1.5 gold so I can get 50% karma boost on the jugs which I have many, which should take me near the 240K or whatever is needed for the full set of exotics.
So I still need more money, but I am only at 45% map completion. Pretty impressed though on what I have now, what I’ve done so far and what I will need with what is left to do. They are close to being right in balance.
You seem to think its wrong to have to prove your self to the group before you can join.
How about proving yourself while being invited to the group? Fonzi disproves of your uncool behavior.
If nothing has changed and no bugs. Then the people are begging for looser slots and perhaps are eying another casino that will cater to their needs more favorably.
Ever cleared mobs before a veteran?
By the time the veteran is at 50% at least one mob will have respawned on top of you.
Usually sooner, and usually more than one…Kill 3 normal mobs, kite the fourth = guarantee to run into the first mob you killed again.
Many other examples to be found.
I know I wanted to get in on this conversation but didn’t know how to approach it, your example is perfect.
Right now there seems to be a focus on the places where the re-spawns are below the 90-120 rule. But can the 90-120 be questioned as well? This example is one that does bother me, you kill the trash mobs, then get to the boss, usually Champion in my case but Vet can happen to. While fighting them, you have to fight the same trash mobs again (I feel ok calling them Trash, as they aren’t real I tell myself), that doesn’t feel right. Also like going into shallow caves, you fight your way in and way out the same thing. I get deep caves, but some are like 50 yards deep and you fight the same coming and going. That is where 1 minute and 30 seconds seems too fast even.
Wouldn’t it be interesting to test this out in the wild? For example if it’s deemed these respawns are a bit aggressive, then adjust to 100-130… Await feedback, if more is needed 110-140. Rinse and Repeat.
For things with Champs I could possibly even see them having their set trash mob and they don’t go back on the respawn timer until the Champion goes down. So perhaps an hour ago someone cleared the Champs henchies (I’m starting to feel bad calling them trash) but failed at the Champion, the team coming in at that point doesn’t have that Champs henchies to fight, just the Champ. I could see that.
Then when you kill the Champ the chest ALWAYS drops. I couldn’t resist. I’m also of the belief that really making a Champ drop a chest every time and that it can have ascended pieces as well, completely revitalizes the open world game. Such a little step could do so much good. Also have a 50/50 chest drop on vets or something like that.

The laptop I ended up with was a : Aspire V3-771G series.
I was eyeballing two other systems in the same range, but the deals were moving fast and I wasn’t. So I lost out on two, however I found this and it was better then the other two and since I knew I had to act fast, I jumped on it within an hour or two of finding it. Unfortunately it didn’t last for others to jump in.
But it was right from their site:
http://store.acer.com/store/acerna/en_US/DisplayCategoryProductListPage/ThemeID.30483300/categoryID.61134100/parentCategoryID.60063600
The one on the far right is the deal right now, that is about the model I got (mine had 6gb), I did have it for $750 with tax, the one listed today will be around $850 with tax, free shipping. You’ll look hard to find a better deal.
I will let you know, these have dual video cards and it’s awesome. When running non D3D apps, it will use the intel, it will run a lot cooler and longer on the battery. When you game the NVidia card will kick in. The Asus I have with the radeon doesn’t have this and the VC runs super hot, in the 90’s. The Acre is just a lot more elegant this way.

If you look around/wait for deals, you can find a laptop in the $750 area, marked down from ~$1200 or something like that.
I have two gaming laptops, well over the specs you linked to, both right at $750 tax/title when purchased. I wouldn’t count on either of those you listed.
The two I have, one is an Asus gaming laptop that was refurb’d, but has been running well for 18 months of ownership. That just squeaks in as ok for GWs. Then I recently bought a new Acer gaming laptop, marked down from $1200 during Cyber Week. This is even better then the Asus, but still won’t own in WvWvW vs a desktop. Both i7’s, one with a NVidia the other a Radeon gpu of decent quality, 1 or 2 notches below their top of line mobile video card, not bottom rung, those can be just as bad or worse than a Intel HD 4000.
I suppose if all you do is grind to max level so you can grind some more, yea GW2 might feel like that. Fortunately, I’m actually playing it along the way to 80 and it’s the best PvE leveling experience I’ve ever had in over 10 years of MMO’s.
That is what I have been doing, but it doesn’t mean it can’t change when we get to 80 and then we want the best stuff. That is when all of it kicks in, not leveling really. You can be 20 levels in under-geared armor and still be fine.
The big reason why this doesn’t feel like FtP, is that I paid $60 for it.
Yah man, just spent $100 on Black Lions keys and got 1 strength booster.
Did you get anything you felt was worth your benjamin?
