They need to figure a way to get everyone a reason at high levels to go to all the zones in the game. If it were me, I’d make it the main goal. For me it’s a bit hit and miss, some days it’s pretty barren, most days its a few extra’s and some days like yesterday it was hoping.
It’s a cowbell, nough said.
I don’t know…I’m a ‘casual’ and I don’t think the monthly is that hard.
1. WvW 50 kills.
2. 5 dungeon runs
3. 200 karka killed — easy if you did the event.
4. 7 Fractals run (only having trouble with this one because someone always dc’s in our group so I’ve only gotten credit for 2 completions despite running around 10 times)
Oh snap, I may have 25 dailies done and not hit one of those above. Marks Monthly goal off the to do list.
And by the way, I’m with Polaris.
Fractals are going to be the be all and end all of endgame content, adding another stat increase is helping that a long nicely, but from where I’m sitting it’s to the detriment of the rest of the game.
Yeah, I think there is an argument to rid all the dungeons in the game and build heavily into open world. Face it, it’s open world is the games PvE strength and it’s uniqueness. By putting high-end in the dungeon you make the open world more and more a ghost town. That is the big argument against LFG system, people know that makes it easier to get in dungeons, aka open world becomes the old wild west, tumble weeds and all.
Make the open world even more awesome sauce, get everyone moving around out there in all the contents. Make all areas needed or wanted for max level players.
I also say invest in 100’s of new cosmetic outfits, make that the part people chase for, not stats. A little game known as City of Heroes is still legend over their get’ups. Since you can’t mess with stats, be the end all in loot look variation, not the leader in the least amount of looks. You got to have something.
I hope this isn’t considered bickering. I label it as forum talk and feedback.
“Continuing to evolve PvP into an E-sport as outlined here:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/structured-pvp-iceberg/ "This is what’s wrong with the spvp content in the first place. Please Anet stop trying to force this E-sport title onto us. All it does is alienate the already dwindling population in spvp and creates boring, repetitive content.
Make pvp for fun and not for some tacked on E-sport title. If this is done right, the E-sport crowd will come to you. Not the other way around.
This is something I see them kidding themselves on. Games like LoL will be where the e-sport is, simply because that is all they do. Not 10 others things in game and SPvP. I just don’t see this game ever being considered some type of professional PvP stop. So so many games have said they wanted, only a very few have ever been.
I find World Questing totally a soloable experience. Do a few things take a couple/few to overcome? Yes. Anyone complaining about that little bit, is silly and wrong.
People now fear the reason why they lose in PvP is gear.
I like gear, I like better gear and I like different looking gear. However GW’s was sold on having balanced gear. Now I don’t want to get into the treadmill part of better gear. I just want to know why we can’t get the other, a lot of different looking gear? We want something to differentiate ourselves, we get balanced gear is a good thing at least to differentiate yourself vs the rest. But it’s boring how little variation there is from 1 to 80. That I know is a turn off for many. It’s like you took the candy and soda pop away from us. Take the candy, but I do get thirsty often enough.
Another option (on top of LFG) is to scale them all the way down to solo if so chosen. If no one is playing them, what’s the harm? Right now it’s content they made that to me, doesn’t really exist. Or go the GW1 method, because it’s the same basic idea, running an instance in GW1 you needed X(8)…. have AI hirelings fill your slots. To me scaling down to solo, is easier and more of a standard practice vs AI hirelings filling roles.
Dungeons are for ‘serious’ players
Every other game dungeons were my fav, GW2 so far I stay away from, most likely due to things like this. “Dungeons are for serious players”. First who’s screwing around? Second, why so serious? Dungeons in all other games allowed players of different skills to enjoy them, if GW2 dungeons is only for thee best, then they made a big big mistake.
I will never understand people that sling the line “don’t play if you aren’t having fun”. You know what happens when enough take that advice?
To me that line is one of the most sensible lines I can think of. It would be sad if people have to force entertainment on themselves, some may even call that “work”. If enough people take the advice? Everyone should. If you aren’t having fun playing a game, you owe it to yourself to find something else to do.
If nothing changes for me, I’ll be done with GW2 until the expansion when I have 100% map completion, that is when my fun will end. I don’t redo/farm, it numbs me, so I go elsewhere. Now if you have that personality and find that fun, bless ya. If you farm and hate farming, I call mirror.
Sounds like luck won the day here. Next question.
How do you feel about the guy who won 100 million real dollars for making a $1 bet?
Also am I supposed to feel a bit robbed because I had to play on a over-flow server while others were able to play it through on their official server? I feel a little dirty right now.
You fail to see the point.
It would be a matter of luck if EVERYONE had a chance to participate in this and some got the rewards, some not…Now it was just punishing the players who couldn’t be online the 3 particular hours of the month.
There are lotteries out there I cannot participate in due to the area I live. I think that is wrong. I see the point, if I’m going to worry about petty jealousy, it makes more sense putting efforts in the real world and unbalanced rules for some vs others. I don’t like the kids that never did squat that get to globe-trot from top night club to night club kittening all the beautiful people.
In some ways everyone did have the chance to participate. You could move to a country with an internet connection, buy the game, take the time off and be awake for the event.
I could be one complaining as I didn’t get a precursor, while the guy next to me did. But I wasn’t born last night, that’s how it goes. I just let stuff like this roll cleanly off me. Who’s better adjusted, the person that can accept it or the other that asks for a congressional investigation over such heresy? Figuratively speaking.
I understand your point but you can also see how disheartening it would be to log hundreds of hours on this game and someone that most likely won’t stick around (none of my invites did after the lost shores flop), could get two precursors when most of us have been fighting to get just one since the game opened. Hind sight suggest should have spent some real $ on the gem store gold conversion while precursors were worth silver/low gold
I get your point but I can say a ton of things here about unbalances in our lives. Remember it’s a game, man up all that stuff. I won’t state how some in the realz have it way better then others, more so then your hundreds of luxury hours vs a trial player. Just look the other way, you’ll be a better person for it. I think Anet has recd the message, we wont know what they think until the next time and what they do. This is typically, if history repeats itself, what they do is simply have no more of them, not worth the hassle. But in mmo future fantasy forums, we’ll say “you know what would be cool? live events….”. And so the world turns.

There must have been wide variances in server performance Sunday. Mine luckily ran solid, no one was complaining in chat either. Impressed I was, but as others say, it wasn’t like that for everyone everywhere, I also don’t think anyone is lying, your mileage can simply vary.
I still heavily recommend a newer gen quad, I have played GW2 on Duals, older quads and newer quads. The newer quads make GW 2 play like glass. On Sunday’s event (didn’t play Friday’s) I had no lag, none, smooth mouse, zero skill lag, lowest FPS I had was 25 in very dense area’s and that is plenty good for those points.
So I do really recommend something like a 2400K or better. $350 for mb/proc/ram or around a G for a whole new system.
I think it’s important to know both sides of the story, so one can formulate a proper picture.

Yes. Cross-server.
Congrats to those that got $250 and some that I’ve heard got $500. Haven’t heard of anything more then that…. yet.
In conclusion, this event was way below my standards, and i’m sure below yours,
I’m not sure what my standards are for unique large scale events, because they are so rare to begin with. The last day was my fav of the 3, fwiw. I’m still at a loss of so many having technical issues and I honestly didn’t have any and was amazed on how well it ran.
Do most of those with bad experiences have dual cores? That would explain it.
This is now the only mmo I never left. I have yet to post one “I’m leaving”, I always plan on coming back at some point, had fun at some point with said game, like why would I think anyone cares? We all know what happens. So spare us the over the top drama, because….. wait…. we don’t care (in small caps even) don’t care.
You want them to come out with 20 dungeons at a time?
If dungeons are a focus, they pretty much need to. Also too many qualifying issues to even play dungeons in this game.
I’m a lowbie, and I got 6 nice drops at the end, no precursors, not even a postcursor or a blinkingcursor. I don’t even know what they are, other than rare, takes forever to get otherwise and worth serious dinero.
But two I couldn’t use and both on the auction house stated I would get 11 gold and 5 gold for each if I sold it. When I sold it and I got a few silver each. I guess this is where I’m supposed to be really angry. But honestly if there wasn’t a chest at the end I would have been ok two, it’s a once in a while main event that I played, unique and all of that.
Overall, I just don’t know why I would get upset. I’m not struggling with content buying stuff for under 1 silver each and playing. I already have more gold then I need. So I guess I don’t know why I need more powerful stuff yet. Yeah once I get to 80 move over to WvWvW for a while, I may see it. Maybe everyone complaining that is why, for the PvP advantage, otherwise I don’t get it.
1)graphics (1-bad…10-amazing) – 9 (same as rest of the game)
2)sound(1-bad…10-amazing) – 8 (same as rest of the game)
3)story concept/originality (1-boring…10-captivating) – 5 (average fair)
4)loot/reward (1-lost all my money…10-gained amazing items) – 8 (I don’t really care either way)
5)stability (1-extremly buggy…10-no bugs) – 10 (No stability issues at all, that is different then bugs imo)
6)network connection/speed (1-laggy,disconnections, 10 – perfect connection) – 10 (this game runs the best I’ve seen for having so many on the screen, you need a monster intel quad though)
7)mini events length (1-to long/short…10-just right) – 1 (Anything that wasn’t the dungeon or Sunday’s event, didn’t really work for me, I’m calling those mini’s)
8)overall event length (1-to long/short…10-just right) – 8 (If it all worked it was good, I would have aimed for a 2 hour finally vs a 3 hour one)
9)overall Satisfaction (1-worst experience ever,10-best experience ever) – 7 (Day one didn’t really work for me, I don’t like being forced into 5 man dungeons at all, day 2 going over the new zone was pretty good, I liked the final event, just a bit too long)
Dungeons in this game have to be rethought and I LOVE instance dungeons. DDO still being my fav mmo evah. This game is waaaay too restrictive.

There is also the issue that this is Thanksgiving week and some people are already gearing up for travel. The local college is having their last day of classes and having everyone leave the campus by tomorrow night. That makes for some very busy people who might otherwise be playing.
The counter is many kids have the entire week off, so they could have much more time to play.
They lied to us!!! And we are not idiots like rest of you:(
They lied to us… Get used to it.
We are not idiots…however 99% follow the 1%.
Rest of you… We’re all stupid, you and me and this goes beyond GW2.
I just don’t get why more people aren’t up in arms about lotteries and keno parlors. I would think real life material x times more important than virtual k-rap.
I agree with the OP, but I’m mainly talking phase 3.
I would have every zone have a zone DE that runs once per week on the scale we saw Sunday, perhaps shave one hour. Standardize the loot and stagger the start time each week.
So however many zones there are say 21, that means 3 run per day and they stagger their start times. Everyone gets in on the action, loot is standardized.
Now you have DE’s for area’s in each zone and once per week that zone has a massive Zone DE.
Perhaps a one-time kickoff for each Zone DE when introduced.
I agree, this is content no one else has that makes area’s more alive vs the competition.
Well even with the good ideas ANet did have for this event. The server perfomance was an issue greater than the fun the event allowed us to have (not for everybody).
Was it server or client? I didn’t have a technical issue today, so I sway on client side/isp. Or perhaps some servers weren’t taxed as much or preformed differently.
Where do people get all these girlfriends who play mmos? Will you swap for my normal gf?
And why would we do that? It would take some mighty fine loot in return to consider this.
Troy if we have to take your situation into affect and everyone’s, there would be nothing. There would be no ideal time, ever. So do we live with the adage, “it only takes one to ruin it for the rest of us?”.
The last day was worth it because for me it ran well and it was different. I’m starting to think there should be no rewards for large scale events, so the expectation is set accordingly and you do it for the event itself and nothing more. Obviously your mileage will vary on how it ran technically for you. Another reason for no loot, if you bugged out, you didn’t miss on the loot, just the event.
Yeah there has to be a way to have these happen very often on a smaller scale, it would just make the world questing that much more alive. The current DE’s are fine, but you need large scale map-changing DE’s to.
IMO don’t give up on Events like this, the troubles they had, everyone developer has had. At least their system can handle lag a lot better then others. I know some had lag, but most mmo’s can’t do anywhere near this and everyone has lag, period, not just some.
So yes there was bugs, but they’ll get better at it, not abandoned it. This is what we want for our mmo’s, we just need patience or we’ll never get routine unique content. We’ll get, “go get me 10 boar kitten as I’m making a stew tonight”, quests.
