To FA, most of you were nice in the EB JP, until a few people from the guild tag SMBD decided it was a good idea to attack a small group of us from Yaks helping you try and take out the TC campers at the top. Completely counter-productive and top-notch kittenery. GJ letting TC keep a hold of EB JP.

We killed you all!!!

I was the Norn Mesmer.

You guys were getting far (hitting the very top of the Arena), FA and YB acting together. You both were about to break through (so close, so many times). But then we saw FA turn on you YB folk. We were laughing, but in sadness.

Sorry for the very very very long camping session (about 10 hours), but we needed to keep it clear for our folk. FA was hostile and kill on sight for all the fighting/camping. YB was allowed to pass for many hours (off and on). Until 3 of them turned on us at the top. They thought I was the only one still there, but I had stealthed friends in case I was pushed or yanked off during porting. Shady indeed (they were acting all friendly while TC outnumbered them by large amount).

After that, truce was off for a while. Then later back on, but a male YB Guardian (honestly couldn’t tell if Human, Sylvari, or Norn) decided to attack our siege set in place for FA (twice). Truce was off again until FA pushed through with a stealthed Mesmer and cleared us out.

If it is any consolation, I got a lot of badges from the FA group that killed you (not an insult to FA. FA was just always so close they didn’t want to give up, and I thought they’d wipe us for sure, yet they kept dying and rezzing hoping their Mesmers would make it). Not so many badges from YB (since YB were either allowed to pass, or just not as numerous during the fighting periods).

I’m not here to complain, but I’m here to ask a favor to Tarnished Coast and Fort Aspenwood players in EB.

Can you let this Charr (me) get through the EB jumping puzzle without killing me? I just want the badges, I couldn’t care less about the siege blueprints.

If I’m doing the Mesmer ports for TC (I do many—so so so many), you got it. I usually port with instructions on which server is on friendly terms at the moment.

“Do not attack such and such….. for now.”

We been having many unspoken truces at times. Fragile things. It only takes one to ruin it for the whole server. Then every player gets killed no matter how often they /wave /cry /whatever.

YB has had a few players wait until they outnumber the enemy players, then decide to get free kills when it is “safe” for them. They backstab the players that literally saved them earlier. A minority, but still there.

If I see any Asura Mesmers from YB, you will be killed on sight. Sorry, but I had too many instances with them being very shady. Also, you have a guild that hangs out at the chest waving and dancing, and then attacks people. I just need to pay more attention to guild tags (and lack of them).

Can’t control etiquette of others, but if you are being killed, chances are your teammates did something bad and used up the 3 strikes rule.

Jumping puzzle in EB

The only fix they need is to put a mystic fountain at the end of the darkroom just before the little arena with animals in it, then you can basically stealth through the whole puzzle.

As a thief I get through the puzzle no matter the odds stacked against me, stealth ftw!

This. Adding another Fountain would fix everything. And that would make using arrow carts a waste. Who is going to spam #1, #2, #3, for hours to maybe catch someone stealthed?

Also, you need to run supply to use siege. Which means a commitment to time, keeping clear routes, manpower, and using up siege.

The siege in Jump Puzzle is severe though. Tarnished Coast just defended the end of the puzzle for about 10 hours. What was the counter? The Fort Aspenwood folks counldn’t get through, so they killed any Tarnished Coast trying to be ported to safety at the end. Locked TC down from helping TC players unless they fell back to clear, and that let FA get in when TC did so.

If siege was left in, people need a way to sneak around it. Currently, the start of the jump puzzle can be camped just as badly as the end. Worse even, since it is quick to leave and come back. No one can get to the first fountain. That is a problem. It is stupid design imo.

If taken out, it goes out for all servers. Camping will still happen in a different fashion. I can’t be upset by that.

If it says in, I can’t be upset either. All servers have a chance to have pride in keeping their server safe. The servers more willing to come together for their people benefit.

The servers, when asked by their community to help in the Jump Puzzle, that then say “no” (or ignore the requests or tell people they should be playing differently), they don’t deserve to benefit. Granted that good players are affected by the actions of their server, but the point is to find a community that helps you. Not be upset at the other community for being more helpful for their members.

EDIT: so my point is that siege in the jump puzzle is powerful, but balanced. There are ways to counter it. Numbers are a factor to that counter. The “king of the hill” aspect is what makes it appealing to some (and a turnoff to others). I’m both defending it AND calling it stupid.

It takes so much effort when a dominating server also decides to grief players. There is no point then for their behavior except to be jerks. They aren’t defending theirs, but just camping yours. That is not fun, or balanced, and is a symptom of the greater problem in any WvW with mismatched servers, and the jump puzzle just reflects the rest of the map.

In balanced matches, the losing server seems to control the JP more. They have nothing else to do. Balance.

Perma stealth

Recently I’ve seen thiefs with 1 minute worth of stealth on themselves. To me that’s overpowered.

While I agree that stealth should work in WvW as it does in sPvP with regard to point capture, you didn’t see a thief with 1 minute of stealth stored up. It caps at 10 seconds. Granted, you can constantly be filling it to that cap, but you can’t just fill ’er up and go.

No, it was actually 1 minute. He was on my GoM server so I looked at his stealth buff after the 10 seconds and the stealth buff said 1m.

Hack or glitch?

P.S. I play a thief, I know how stealth works. :p That’s why I mentioned it, because it wasn’t working how it’s supposed to and I found that very, very odd.

Were you in the jump puzzle? That is not Thief stealth.

Mesmer Portals and WvWvW

Mesmer portals are fine.

Arrow Carts.
Ballistas.
Awareness.

Those three things alone keep a Mesmer bomb from happening. It is so highly situational, the other side needs to be brain dead to pull it off.

Try it. Go run in and use all your stealth skills back to back to hide somewhere. See how long you last. See how you can laugh when they don’t see you behind a wall in the open. See how long it takes for your group to position so you can pull it all off.

Most the time, people aren’t pulling it off as wonderfully as others make up. They simply get their team closer or around a bottleneck.

And you can see it coming.

pvp and why it has issues

in PvP

Players playing next to each other and not with each other is exactly it.

In WoW, if I was playing my healer, I’d stick to certain players. And they’d stick to me. It was an unspoken bond that we should casually group up. Sure, we’d split up often, but we were a PuG. We just played up the synergy.

In GW2, people played like that in beta. People tried to compliment each other. But it quickly degraded into numbers vs numbers.

Play with guildies and friends, it is a non-issue. Play with randoms, you’ll notice how solo we all are. But it isn’t really an issue with the PvP. It is an issue with how “fun” it feels.

Support in this game is just entirely too weak. The cooldowns I agree with, to prevent “healers”, but not the weakness of the support. The Guardian 30 skill point elite is just plain weak at healing. It has 1 powerful skill, and condition removal (very great stuff), but the #1 skill is meh. Dropping med kits as an Engineer is meh, just negating 1 attack. Elementalist water is meh.

Sure, those tiny heals can save your team or you, but you can’t build around that chance. Support is just an accidental byproduct. Burst Burst Burst is it. And how well you can negate theirs while ensuring yours.

It makes pvp a bit too direct and too much a zerg. Fun is a bit too simple. The “holy trinity” kept a certain wild card to encounters that GW2 lacks. No need to bring it back, but do allow balancing to make burst less valuable and defense and support more so.

The only one I agree with is crowd control. I’ve never played a game so over the top in this regard. Losing control of my character for 15+ seconds happens way more often than it should.

Crowd Control could have a simple fix to prevent the 10 second stun locks. Diminishing Returns. I’m surprised a modern game would come out without them.

I would of just went to too much burst for a no healer game and left it at that.

CC is not overly long compaired to other games its really short…. problem is the burst is higher then other MMOs so the short CC 2 seconds can lead to losing 3/4s of your life before you can respond… Thats broken.

Agree on invis its hard to balance and broken.

CC is not long? I can keep someone down, alone for 12 seconds. And I’m not even trying to min/max it yet. Add in another player and we have total lock down of enemy player—and a free kill. Only a stun breaker will interrupt it, but I’ll wait for it to wear off and use the other 6 seconds on them.

This game has many balancing issues. Removing the problem completely is not a good solution. Diminishing Returns and such are. I basically say, stay cool until Aug next year. MMOs take about 1 year to adjust. If it’s still all crazy lopsided by then, well, then I’d worry.

Shatter mesmers working as intended?

in PvP

Posted by: Hsinimod.5784

Hsinimod.5784

I suspect it’s intended. Once the mesmer hits shatter the clones are essentially projectiles that home in on the target to deliver the selected skill, the mesmer has no further control of them.

Preventing the mesmer using any phantasm skills until the projectiles hit home would be very unfair on them, no other class has to “wait” for a projectile attack to land before they can resume using their relevant skills again. Many classes can set up a projectile combo so multiple hits land simultaneously

Shattering illusions is not a projectile, thats like saying popping a bone minion is a projectile.

If the illusion is “in flight” it is still around, and should not be considered shattered yet. I certainly hope this was not intended.

Agree heck necros cant even blow up our two bone minions at the same time there is a stupid delay on blowing up the seconds one.. more times then not the second one dies before the delay is up and it can be exploded.

But mesmer is the chosen class all the tools and power with no drawback. Reason why its such a popular class in Tpvp and Spvp

That isn’t the same thing. The Bone Minion is one skill. It is not locking down other skills.

The Mesmer Clones/Phantasms are all on Cooldowns. And the Shatters are all on Cooldowns.

So 6 clones coming at someone means the Mesmer used up a lot of skills to summon 3, and 1 shatter, 3 more clone skills, and another shatter. They simply unloaded everything all at once, and you won’t see them spam that again a second time. It’s all on cooldown.

You can Necro focus stun them, then unload with your Staff. You have the same ability to burst.

You can block them. They are projectiles. The person you quoted explained it all.

When you see 3 clones/phantasms charging you while 3 more start as well, start dodging or using a block skill.

Of course I could be wrong on all these points, but I have yet to find any game (single or multiplayer) that incorporates these items while still remaining competitive or balanced. If one exists I’d like to see it.

Can GW2 make it as a competitive game while these kinds of options remain? Even if they were balanced is it worth designing around them if they turn off the casual player base?

I’d love to hear what you guys think.

I’m fairly certain LoL violates every one of your points (possibly not point #6, but I’m unsure what exactly you mean by that one).

1. LoL has crowd control skills, whether that’s as a stun, grab, or snare, they are a critical part of the game.

2. There are movement skills in LoL that work in more or less the same fashion as in GW2. It could be argued that any movement skill is coming at the cost of another skill the champion would carry otherwise, but that’s the case for these skills in GW2 as well. If I take “Retreat!” for swiftness, I can’t take a different utility in its place. Shortbow thief has Infiltrator’s Arrow, but that’s their 5-slot weapon skill, which is a lot to give up, and it costs half their total Initiative to use.

3. Stealth is a major mechanic in LoL. However, all characters have access to items which can see through invisibility which mitigates the effect.

4. Creeps are obviously uncontrolled AI minions. Beyond that, I’m fairly certain Tibbers behaves similarly to a ranger’s pet.

5. LoL has the same 5v5 team oriented structure as GW2’s tPvP has.

And LoL isn’t balanced. lmao. This kinda is proving the point of the OP, which I neither agree nor disagree with. LoL has heroes that are just superior to others at all times. And worthless heroes that have no place.

But without CC and movement skills, the competition can be stale.

I think the Mesmer is the perfect example of a profession that is too strong, but, because of the core mechanics, can’t be adjusted without making the Mesmer too weak. CC and movement skills ruin everything, since it is built so heavily into the profession.

Their weapon skills summon clones and teleport the Mesmer away (which even when you know which is the real Mesmer, still allows the Mesmer a free dodge that uses no Endurance). They can also teleport or go invisible with weapons, allowing more cases to avoid enemies with another Endurance-free dodge. And they can do damage to you while causing you to do damage to yourself, not giving you much choice.

But if you take anything away, such as damage potential or their “free dodges”, the class ends up quite squishy. Which then would require too many changes to fix and gut the character of the profession.

I do wonder though if skills that allows us to “dodge” damage (not all professions are created equal here) would benefit from affecting Endurance in some way as well. GW1 had Exhaustion. I imaging a similar concept could work with allowing professions to use their “dodge type” skills on cooldown (one way to balance) but those skills eat up Endurance when it is full, and place Endurance in the negative when not full (another way to balance). So you would know that a Mesmer who is using their “dodge” skills often will not be using their Endurance dodge as well. And the sigils that refill Endurance would have a new meaning. Vigor as well.

In fact, they might need to add a third level, that when “Exhaustion” is in full effect, the skills “dodge” instead only blocks half of damage. Or fails. Or teleports half distance.

In WvW, I’ve used my lvl 12 Mesmer to chase down and kill actual lvl 80s. They are playing very well, and I’m taking big damage if hit, but I’m simply able to dodge being hit too often. It is a war of attrition, and I’m going to win.

It feels a little cheap.

I mean, I did have to be careful and work for it, but I simply knew that I would be able to avoid being hit by just using things up on CD.

Point fighters "PvDoor"

Posted by: Hsinimod.5784

Hsinimod.5784

Hitting the most open targets is strategy.

Hopping from map to map follows that strategy, but it is cheap.

Instead of running the risk of encountering the enemy on the same map, having to counter each other’s plays, a team just hops to avoid all fighting all together. And those guilds you notice doing it? They are the same guilds hopping server to server.

They don’t want to play WvW. They want the most cheap and easiest “win” possible.

Generally, on the higher tier servers, the population is nearly full around the clock, so groups respond right away. The hopping group is not very efficient, and things get flipped back immediately. So the issue is minor.

But when those guilds then hop down a few tiers, purposely aiming for the cheapest fights possible… well, nothing you can do. We can tell their character, the character of the guild, and know they must resort it such a tactic because a pug group is skilled enough to wipe them. Frankly, I smile at that.

Let them be cheap. They need it.

Martin Kerstein:

Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill. Our goal is to ensure we have a proper progression for players from exotic up to legendary without a massive jump in reward between the two. We will slowly add the remaining ascended gear items and legendary items in future updates to allow people time to acquire them as we add exciting new content that deserves exciting rewards. We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.

The part I’ve highlighted in bold there doesn’t make sense. Martin claims they will not add new tiers of gear to create a treadmill, but this is really just clever use of language.

The treadmill effect is the result of incremental increases to the highest possible stats on a regular basis, causing players to be endlessly chasing better gear to remain equal to the content. Now they might not be adding a full tier every 3 months, but by adding ‘the remaining ascended and legendary items’ over time they ARE increasing the highest possible stats every few months.

Martin has denied adding new tiers yet the gradual release of ascended gear over time functions exactly the same as new tiers would. If they added 2 new pieces of ascended gear every few months now, the majority of players will be chasing that gear endlessly. That is a treadmill.

sigh

They only have back items and rings and such right now. They are adding the missing items of armor. Head, shoulders, chest, etc.

It isn’t a new tier. It is giving us the missing parts. No conspiracy about it.

what they mean is guild wars is not a persistent world which most mmos are.

This was addressed in the initial post.

There are indeed persistent environments within the virtual space of the game. Hence, the language, “Thousands of players inhabit the same virtual world. These areas exist independent of user interaction, can change whether a user logs in or not (events, for example). Yes, this space is comparatively small, but it’s there and it is shared. It doesn’t need to be of a certain scope to qualify.

So….

Call of Duty is an MMO? Dark Souls? Ratchet and Clank? I mean, they have “persistent” worlds that can change as well and thousands of players able to interact

Lack of story content?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hsinimod.5784

You are missing the point. Anet’s fault for not being clearer.

You are not supposed to beeline from Story to Story. You are supposed to do the content around you as you make your way to the Story. You are exploring and helping the world. You are a hero in need being pulled all over, and end up gaining experience by the time you find yourself at your Story.

The problem is, it can break immersion for those looking for that. You are told to “immediately” go somewhere, so the urgency makes it feel wrong to go romping off killing centaurs or ghosts. That was bad Story writing, to not make the gaps in levels suggest that the player should be exploring on their way to the next part.

Also, the Human story, you aren’t expected to fight dragons as a level 1. You don’t even know you are going to be a big shot hero. So it makes sense that you are doing personal life issues as you grow.

That’s a grind, not a treadmill. A treadmill is something where you keep running, but never reach the max armor, because they implement a new tier shortly after the last one.

Introducing one new tier is not treadmilling yet. It’s a new grind, yes. But it’s only a treadmill if they keep coming up with new tiers. And only time will tell if this will remain a grind, or will evolve in a treadmill.

Exactly the point I hope I was making as well.

It’s a treadmill. 90 hours to get the mandatory gear to compete is a treadmill. SOrry to burst your bubble.

And the game has incoming patches.

If you want to spend that time to get the tiny amount of Ascended gear, feel free. Just know that it won’t make you stronger in WvW or other PvE content. At 80, you need (I think) 25 more of a stat to go up by 1. So the new tier will not affect 1 point, since you can’t reach 25 more of a stat.

Sorry to burst your bubble. But it isn’t mandatory to get in order to compete.

It just is not an issue at the moment, unless the next patches introduce more of a full set, and still take that long. Then WvW and PvE will be affected. Which, we have been providing feedback on saying our concerns.

Right now, it is only tied into the Fractals, so it makes perfect sense to take that long. The Fractals are all about going up in level and meant to take time. Otherwise, there is no point to do Fractals or get the Ascended gear. They only synergize with each other.

There is no treadmill. Yet.

Why is there another post on this when the front page has many? Post there instead.

It isn’t a treadmill. Take the most known standard WoW. You get Epics at max level, but need to get better Epics at max level because the stats keep inflating.

You end up with tiers within tiers of armor. Hence, a treadmill.

In GW2, you only have 1-Basic, 2-Blue (forget what called), 3-Masterwork, 4-Rare, 5-Exotic, then 6-Ascended (Legendary shares this tier)

There are only 6 tiers. Period.

The only worry is if Ascended will be too grindy allowing the players that play more to get ahead. Debate about time, not tiers.

And do so in the thread all about this.

I want more 1 time events. I bet they are one of the constants for GW2 in its lifespan.

I think for the wintersday event, it will not be climaxed on christmas or new years eve, everyone wants or needs that time to spend with friends/family. I would think running a week/weeks long festival would be best, if nothing else, for more sales of the gem items. Every other consumer location already has christmas decor, why not GW2?

Though on my wintersday list, I hope for events as varied as the halloween festival.

The majority love 1 off events it seems.

The majority also hate small windows of time that screw them out of the 1 off events.

Oceanic players are an especially screwed over bunch.

Wintersday and One Time Events

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

SIMPLE

Make “one time events” last for a few days. Much more time to get them done/experienced.

OR

Make “one time events” instanced. People can experience them at their leisure during a larger window of time.

OR BOTH

You are welcome ArenaNet for solving your issues. =)

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hsinimod.5784

Hsinimod.5784

Eh… seems the exact same thing as the other topics that have come up about Ascended. Many post mention stats. The discussion goes all over the place.

The simple answer is, Exotic gear could have somehow be given another slot to upgrade infusions. But it wasn’t, for whatever reason.

Another tier of upgrade components could have been introduced. They weren’t.

So now we have Ascended, and it isn’t going away. The only way to make sense of having another tier of armor is to give it higher stats. Otherwise, it is just odd to have Exotic, Ascended, and the possible future Legendary armor, all being the same, but the 2 highest have another upgrade slot.

And agony probably will be used in much more content. Hence, they want us to want to get Ascended.

I love the possibilities with this. But, I worry highly about poor execution. (the current weekend has me worried about bugged content of the future)

There is no reason to keep cluttering the front page with the same topics over and over and over. There are merged threads, with bold red icons showing ArenaNet has a place for the discussion.

You don’t even need to search. Just use your eyes.

I mean, if a lot of people are posting the same topic every few days, that’s fine, since it probably fell off the page and isn’t cluttering up the place. Searching can bring up too many non-related topics.

But current events are plainly in view. Please, please, please, please use them.

In just one weekend..

Also they have said multiple times that ascended will be available via other means(such as WvW and crafting). They just haven’t released it yet.

Which puts it much like Kuldebar said….

Again, why is everyone arguing about Ascended gear? The OP never mentioned it. He/she mentioned the whole weekend.

EDIT: As Slyder said, the forums have a lot of QQ on them. But they also have a lot of defenders. You can gauge the game by that and the population.

In one weekend, QQ went way up and defense way down. A lot of that is “the sky is falling”. But a lot is well thought out constructive criticism showing exactly what is being done wrong and will drive people away over time.

I predict Wintersday will be another failure. I won’t judge the game on that, but I won’t be a blind fanboy either staying silent and telling people to just “trust”. I’m going to judge the game on the events after Wintersday, when ArenaNet should know exactly how to not make bugged content patches. If it isn’t coming together by then, then this is just another SWTOR, doing too little too late.

Can’t run a game on good intentions. Will these thing kill GW2? No, as they can always pull it together over a year. No sub means people will come back to see if things changed.

But what will kill the game is people not bothering because the competition did the same thing—better. We see how WoW massively alienates their playerbase to rapidly change direction. They adapt to maintain and attract the most numbers. They are 8 years old and make you pay, and it works! And Elder Scrolls is coming along too, taking the same approach.

Variety is the spice of life in gaming, but MMOs, most stick to a select few and just have no interest in others. There is no time. MMOs require longevity.

Does Tier 3 culture armour seems right to you?

Reading comprehension would help. One argument was about the cost. One. And it was the last point made.

All these posts make it seem like the OP was complaining that they cost too much. No.

The OP was stating that for the cost, we get bland armor, that then needs to be transmuted (another cost to get the lvl 80 stones for transmuting), and they have no runes. You’re paying for a skin. Fine. Make it a worthy skin.

Only 5 sets are the Destiny’s Edge armors. The other 10 sets are a toss up of good sets and crap sets. Look at the Charr as an example of extreme mediocrity. Are you into S&M leather fetishes? Then they are perfect.

Want to make them 500g? 1000g? Fine! I’d love that. Make them look like they are worth 1000g then.

I'll be honest about the gear and gearchecks

One thing. Just one.

The gear treadmill in this game is like exercising for 20 min in real life. It is easy. It is short. And you just do it because it is overall good for you.

Any complaints are basically people upset that they finished exercising while others are just now arriving at the gym.

If we get to the point that it takes a month to gear up, then I’ll worry. I’m not going to worry that it takes a few days. I’m the slowest person ever to make money and karma, and I had no problem getting an Orr set. And this was before the dailies reward Karma! Oh so much easier on alts!

11/16 - TC, FA & YB

in WvW

Posted by: Hsinimod.5784

Hsinimod.5784

Hitting the first place people 2 on 1 only makes sense. So when TC and Yaks were hitting us while we were in the lead it was only good strategy. But why the heck is Yak still trying to take our borderlands when TC is pulling ahead? If it was a soft target that would make sense, but you’ve been banging your head on it for a couple hours now. It’s not good strategy from any standpoint.

YB I assume is fighting for second, so is targeting FA more often. Plus, if YB attacks TC, TC counters and pushes with vengeance, and YB is the softer target. So YB fights the “easier” fight with FA.

TC is just pushing into where it can. TC will fight more often with what it views as the bigger threat. So FA is the bigger threat. TC is hitting FA more often to keep FA in check.

FA is just in a bad position of being too good, so draws TC’s attention, but also “softer” drawing YB’s attention. Plus, it is just perception, and 2v1 has been happening in every combination.

If it is any consolation, in the jump puzzle, it is slightly different. TC kills YB on sight generally, since YB will camp the puzzle or overall just be hostile. FA and TC leave each other mostly alone and in peace, jumping together side by side, unless one attacks the other. (TC cleared out YB campers a few times and then killed them in the entire puzzle for hours, while letting FA pass the entire time)

Lost Shores Feedback Thread

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hsinimod.5784

Hsinimod.5784

My problem with the event is ArenaNet.

ArenaNet handled it disgracefully and ignorantly, showing they learned nothing from the feedback with Halloween. Or showing they didn’t care to listen, and decided to push out failed content, instead of holding it until ready.

During beta, we got messages on screen. They showed humor and warmth, saying things like;
“We extended the beta another 2 hours. You have 2 hours left.” (then an hour later)
“We extended the beta another 2 hours. You have 1 hour left.” (then a minute later)
“oops, we mean 1 hour longer and 1 hour left. Have fun!”

Where was that this event? WHERE WAS THAT SINCE RELEASE?

ArenaNet could have done it to guide the failed events and get players to know they have a shot in another overflow at the Final Boss. Too often people found out by word-of-mouth and lost out on the chance. Not only that, they lost out while realizing others knew and benefited all day.

Facebook has an announcement that players will be compensated. FACEBOOK!?!? Where is this announcement on the official forums? In-game? Anywhere the player should find expected information?

I have nothing against using third party sites like Facebook, Twitter, or Reddit, but USE YOUR OWN kitten OFFICIAL SITES AS WELL.

Should not have to keep saying the same message over and over until the thick skulled employees that are preventing this suddenly become wiser.

I said I’d never go back to Panda Craft. I’m eating my words. They have Public Test Servers. They stress test content to release it bug free.

ArenaNet does not. That is another failure in the game. This event showed all the cracks in the mechanics. All the complaints about the old ways of MMO design are minor compared to this failed experiment. People were dying left and right because they were knocked down in AoE. No way to heal them, stabilize them, or take away their conditions reliably. We can only “Support” (what a kittening joke) for a fraction of a second, while the other player is pinned down dying.

These types of mechanics are fine when the players can react. But when I see a player get knocked down, and is frantically trying to dodge into the non-AoE zone unsuccessfully, and is obviously lacking ALL TOOLS to do so, then the game mechanics are a failure. The design is a failure. And the people who let it release like that are failures. Especially since I was throwing all sorts of “support” at them with my entire server doing the same.

This failure of an event showed how players bond to overcome crappy design. We made it work by standing around rezzing and not playing. It was boring, tedious, and aggravating. Mobs had skills to effectively negate all control from the players. The mobs could knockdown for long durations, cause heavy damage, and blanket a large area in seconds. All those abilities stacking is not challenge, it is a nightmare. There is no teamwork that can overcome that except rezz-zerging, which is not fun.

And lag. If the majority of players are lagging, you do not have working content. Period. Lag should be a rarity. GW2 sports it like a feature.

The worst point of all? The event was hyped and promoted by ArenaNet to bring in players and show off GW2. It showed it off alright. How horrible everything can go wrong, with no official word.

When people complained about Halloween, you had just as many defending you. This event? You have very few defending anything. They are all having to look very hard at the silver lining. And more of us are expecting this is ArenaNet’s true standard.

This is so unfair… These ppl should have thier items deleted from their 2nd chest and up… I’m sure its not intended that you should be able to loot mutliple times so this is an exploit isn’t it?

Yes. These people are blocking legitimate people from getting even one chest.

All their exploiting (that is exactly what it is, repeating a 1 time event) should be handled the same way as the Weapon Exploit was. Delete or ban.

When the leader leaves, it screws over everyone else.

WoW made it so anyone could save the instance, or even leave the instance fully and STILL save it for a time so the group can re-enter. GW2 gives it to one leader. Horrible decision that will cause this to happen time and again.

lol, even the most patient share your sentiments. Just with less swearing.

This content was the worst content I’ve ever seen introduced into any game. Ever. (not the creativity of it, but the execution of it—can’t applaud developers for good intentions… this was straight up broken). It was so unbelievably broken on so many of the steps, that I now view this as the standard of ArenaNet.

We have no public test server. We seem to have no quality control either. So…. we get this.

But this is a feedback post and not a bug post. Too general.
