Suddenly Dead When Out of Combat [Lag]

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

I have lag that KILLS.

My friend was standing with me in the jump puzzle in Eternal Battlegrounds 2-3 days ago. We were both at the end on top by the chest. I suddenly went from full health to dead. He saw it. He couldn’t rez me because my body was at the end (on top by the chest), but my rez icon was 1 level below. He had to rez the icon to make my body revive (body revived on top).

A huge moment of “WTF!?!?!?” happened for us, and all those standing around with us as well.

Thought it was a 1 time thing. Well, I died again like that 3 times today. The game thinks I missed a jump and fell to my death so instantly kills me minutes later (after I had been successfully long done with the jump). People see me moving in my PROPER location, and even portal me if I fall at a smaller part later on. But then BOOM dead minutes later. Everyone is “wtf?”

Or mobs are killing me that I left LONG AGO. Odd that my chat is not lagging, my party can see me in our proper location, but I have a magical body somewhere else being attacked. My skills then freeze up (since the game thinks I’m somewhere else) and I get to pay a fee for repair.

I’m such a minority with this problem, I can’t find anyone that has had it.

Still wondering how I can talk with people in real time through the game, while not people able to heal myself, defend myself, or just frankly not instantly die.

We just killed the champ and opened the chest. All blues -.-

Loot in this game is disappointing like that. Champ wiped our 4 man group, but luckily a few more came and kept the fight going, rezzed us, and we finished. Then we got our sub-par loot.

It was a lot of fun though (besides the loot—who decides this crappy drop rate for Champions?). A bit easy for the jumping elite though. Need more Metrica-like ones with traps =)

No, you can’t do largos.

Phase 1 was bugged, so they only let Noll carry over into phase 2. So you had to get up to Noll before stopping.

The Mystic Forge hunt for the Quaggan, Hylek, and Largos was patched late at night (1 am or so EST). So it was not carried over.

Now, maybe they are available as a courtesy (as they should be), but I doubt it since the forum warned us (the red note at top when looking at the forum) that only Noll and on would be carried over.

Disappointing.

Gukumatz in Metrica Province gives us a container to collect stuff for making poison/potion. If you get on the Ice Cannons around the area by mistake, you lose the container. But talking to the NPC again, he does not give you a new container. (he does give a new one when you mess up the potion)

I tired rezoning. Relogging. Interacting with the potion materials. Killing enemies. Weapon swapping. Nothing.

Has anyone figured out how to trigger him to go back to giving out containers when he thinks you already are holding one? Completely stuck.

Halloween was buggy but didn’t interfere with gameplay. The doors were spaced out and it was fun after 24 hours of patching. Plus, the time limit was spaced out as well, and there were other options to do.

This event…. a total mess. Just…. utter crap. Every single thing has some wall to hit. Missing NPC. Can’t interact with NPC. Completion is not registered. Crashing. Ugh.

I can’t seem to leave the forums, cause I’m looking for info on a work-around to get another bucket from Gukumatz the Hylek and keep getting side tracked by all the others who are having the same crap experience as I.

The worst part….

We have to report “I can’t interact with…. XXX” bugs every. single. time.

There are many instances where you have either an item from an NPC or dialogue with an NPC, something happens that causes you to drop the item or dialogue, and the NPC has no option to reset.

You think after 6 and a half months of reporting these bugs, someone would take the time to double check that we could reset. Just 1 darn employee.

Nope. Instead we have the same darn issue. Repeatedly.

Giving points on innovation and good intentions can’t make up for the fact that the content is fully bugged.

For Halloween, you could ignore 1 part and do something else while waiting for the patch. Plus, we had more time.

This content is rushed, not everyone can sit around waiting for it to work, and every single part is bugged. The 2 scavenger hunts, the fractals, the world events…. all bugged.

Noll prevents completion.
Gukumatz (the Hylek) won’t give another bowl if you interact with the Ice Guns.
The Fractals will either not reward completion, or kick you out.
The world events will not let you loot mobs you have been hitting (but will certainly let you die and cost you money).
And the crippling lag.

The event looks WONDERFUL. Too bad it just doesn’t work. I can see a lot of hard work went into it. I wish they finished the event though before putting a time limit on the broken content.

Why don’t you guys just delay the lost shores events till next weekend and get the thing working correctly. Give everyone another shot at doing things in order.

It’s not a big deal that we need to wait but it’s kinda lame that we can’t play it as intended.

Knowing them I say it’ll still be bugged beyond any expectations.

I will not be surprised if my friend decides not to stay in GW2.

“Our free trial event is now live and it’s not too late to invite a friend to experience Guild Wars 2 for free! Enjoy standing around broken NPCs while waiting for things to work in this ground-breaking new MMO!”

Great impression. Show how content is released bugged lol.

Just direct your friend away from the Lost Shores content and pretend it doesn’t exist. It might as well not exist anyway, with how it is running. The rest of the game is quite attractive, if you ignore missing out on temporary content.

The Lost Shores: phase 1, update

Hi everyone,

We have now identified and applied fixes for the reported bugs related to the Lost Shores phase 1. This includes events for the NPCs Canach and Fahd al’Eshadhi, but not for Noll who is still bugged. We’ve also fixed the bugs of Miyani sending multiple emails, Blingg’s voice over being spammed, the Largos dynamic events and a few other bugs.

We’ve identified the fix for Noll’s event but this fix will require additional time to implement. Because of this we’re going to leave the Phase 1 dynamic events (investigation of the Karka attacks) open even after Phase 2 starts (Saturday November 17 at 12pm Pacific Time), which will allow us to push a fix for Noll’s dynamic event later so that players can complete phase 1 of The Lost Shores event.

This change in the organization of the event means that:

  • To complete Phase 1, you have to complete the dynamic event chain leading to Noll before Saturday November 17 at 12pm Pacific Time; you will be able to complete the dynamic events after Noll once we’ve pushed the fix; you can refer to the "wiki article about Phase ":http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Lost_Shores/Phase_1>; for more information;
  • Some NPCs (primarily Canach and Inspector Ellen Kiel) will be duplicated for phases 2 and 3, and may appear simultaneously in Lion’s Arch and in Southsun Cove.

We’re very sorry about this and hope that you can continue to experience The Lost Shores and help us retake Lion’s Arch and repel the Karkas!

Great. Now every player just needs to check the forum to know, or forever be screwed over.

You know players are going to assume they can “just do it tomorrow when patched” not knowing they need to have it done up to a point to get credit. My guildies went to sleep under that assumption.

Would be wonderful to have stuff work and times extended properly when failed content is released.

So pretty much a QQ thread started by a QQer?

Exactly. It’s not like any of us should expect a game to work, amirite?

Oh wait……

The event is crap. Plain and simple. You can do more than enough damage, kill many mobs, and not be able to loot. So, the world event portion is garbage, because the lag kills any point in participation.

No biggie, can do the scavenger hunt. Oh wait….

That is bugged too, with key NPCs missing or not doing anything.

No biggie, you can do the Fractals. Oh wait….

They get frozen, drop you, bug out, etc.

Well…. you can play the regular game and ignore the event and hope a patch come in time for you to play. Good luck.

If you are talking about kits, do you realize that they are balanced so that without your weapon stats the do the same amount of damage as exotic? If they do give you your weapon stats, they MUST reduce the damage and increase the cooldown of the 5 skills. The kits might end up worst off. Grenade damage could be reduced by 50%. Your +100 power(and others) isn’t good enough to offset this. Have you played GW1? Ritualist ashes, also remove weapon stats and the ability to attack but in return they give abilities better than your standard weapon. I find no reason to complain as long as flamethrower/bomb/grenade/toolkit can do equal or greater damage (with bonus aoe) than an exotic rifle.

Kits do flat damage based on level. That is the only part that is true. The rest is just… made up.

If kits were influenced by stats, damage would not lower. That doesn’t even make sense (nor does cooldown). They’d be tuned to the stats and sigil procs.

The lvl 80 exotic Rifle has 5 skills. Those 5 skills do not do the same damage for all Engineers. Some Engineers do more damage cause they have more power. The max amount of power and boons and precision will determine how high the rifle can go in damage—which few will reach. What players do on average determines base damage.

By tuning kits to stats and sigils, it allows them to scale in damage based on stat choices, boons, and procs. It allows lower damage and higher damage. It allows us control in our builds. Engineers don’t jump out and let loose with burst damage. They jump out and let loose with sustained damage.

GW1 didn’t give you a weapon set of skills for carrying ashes. It gave you 1 skill to carry around for an effect and to drop for another effect. That was the trade off—weapon or effects. You didn’t need weapon damage because Spirits were attacking for you. Completely different.

In group play, players can stack boons with each other and scale their damage. The Engineer is flat.

“Orions mad”

Because its childish and pathetic. Look at all the class threads. “Oh, i play this class so it has to be better.” “Oh, i play this class so it cant be nerfed.” “Oh, i play this class so it deserves full attention.” If you are going to whine, complain and critique, at bring up real problems. Are you all saying Warriors go around “one-shotting” all of you? All classes are good at some things and bad at others. Engineers can be good in PvP as well as PvE, you just need to learn how to play more and whine less

If it looks like a troll, quacks like a troll, and swims like a troll…. it’s probably a troll.

You play an Engineer and you think it’s fine? Good for you. You can leave then since this topic doesn’t affect you at all—be it praise or complaint.

I’m glad you are not bothered by Flamethrower missing when directly hitting the target and such other things. I’m glad you think others just “need to learn to play”. That a mature well thought out response.

Can I ask how you know how everyone is playing though? I’m curious where you got your mass of data to come to that conclusion.

Your generalizations and assumptions speak more about how you play, act, and think. So you saying “I play this class so it needs to be better” is speaking about you. Not the people here. Which is then curious as to why you are here…

There are a still a few builds out there that allow professions to use game mechanics to do extreme sustained damage. Those professions were not patched from doing those setups. Meanwhile, grenades got a speed boost and pvp nerf. Engineers aren’t complained about for a reason—no one worries about our burst. So kitten for tat, Engineers got left behind in the curve.

No one cares about a 10-15% reduction in damage on one kit. They care that nothing else was addressed in the months of reports asking for fixes and quality changes, except one kit. It was mediocre and less than expected. Especially since there were supposed to be “pages” of Engineer issues addressed.

I agree with Nefczi. Don’t roll an Engineer for now. We didn’t get anything fixed that we been asking for (maybe the next big patch in 2 months… or 6 months). Flamethrower is a short range weapon that misses targets that it hits. Horribly bugged and still not fixed (one of the things asked for).

Or, if you want to appreciate playing the other 7 professions in the game, make an Engineer asap. Every time you switch to an alt, you’ll never find their faults as bad as the Engineer’s. Dramatic sounding, but true.

Engineer is fun because you can do a lot, but it feels like skills were slapped on without much thought (or only thought, and no testing). We players make use of them, and it works, but it feels clunky. It feels like a beta profession. You will love the utility, but also curse the synergy. Min/max is very very important on Engineer.

I was expecting some bug fixes. Like Flamethrower not missing. Didn’t get that.

I was expecting skills being moved around, deleted, and added (to reduce the redundancy of many of our skills and increase functionality/synergy of skills in a kit with each other). Didn’t get that.

I saw Elementalist got their spawned weapons to have default stats… I then wondered why our Kits (if they can’t use our stats and sigils) didn’t get the same treatment—to have default stats and sigils added to benefit the kit.

I expected Tool Kit to be… I don’t know… I just expected changes there. People hate it. Even those that find it useful, find it boring. You hit people with a wrench and throw nails for monkeys sake. I might as well pick up the trash on the ground like Wood Planks and hit things with that. Just as useful and just as boring. And why aren’t we using some novel Engineer tools for our tool kit? We are using tools that a stay at home mom has—nails and wrenches.

ArenaNet said the Engineer was a last minute addition and almost didn’t make it.

It shows.

I love the Engineer, but it’s a mixed bag. Not one single kit or weapon (except for Pistol/Shield) feels right. There is always a skill (or two) “too situational” or “too blah” thrown onto the kits/weapons. I could make pages worth of posts on it.

But I’ll just do one example. Say you love the Bomb Kit. It’s basically “melee” since you need to be so close. Yet, you have no way to close distance with a foe on the kit. Warriors and Guardians leap at their foes. We don’t.

So, we need to fill that gap by using Flamethrower to pull in a foe. Oh wait, they got rid of that…. so our close range Flamethrower only has a push now…. and the #1 skill is so badly bugged it misses when it hits. Ok, well I guess we have Toolkit. Can use that, just to swap for Magnetic Pull (of course, you need to wait for all the lag while swapping just to use one skill to combo in the kit you really want to use but lacks the needed functionality).

Engineer is the profession with all the potential, but also all the skills jumbled up on the wrong kits, or all the skills being exact redundant copies that already are on other kits.

Stats need to affect kits and turrets. Sigils need to work. Kits need to have their skill synergy fixed, and redundancies reduced.

EDIT: I think the Bomb Kit is fine, just using it as an example of a melee kit not having melee functionality. PvE is fine, as mobs stand around letting you kill them. PvP, Bomb Kit is near useless except for Smoke Bomb and Big Bomb (or when people nicely let you kill them). We Engineers are used to using a Kit for only 1-2 skills or only the Toolbelt option. But we shouldn’t have to. We shouldn’t have deadweight useless skills.

Number 1 is a gimmicky skill, but it’s not that bad.

Number 2 is fine; people seem to conveniently forget that it’s a knockdown. If they have stability they don’t get pulled to you, and if you get blinded they don’t get pulled to you. If they are pulled to you, they’re gonna be knocked down. It’s an interrupt ability and it works. It also has good utility. I’ve saved downed allies several times just by placing a well placed #2 on the person executing them.

Number 3 is fantastic; an AoE blowout that does huge damage is hilarious. I’ve rallied quite a few times from people that were just too close to an edge when I #3’d. Everything is coming from a pvp standpoint, but in PvE the skill is pretty much always up before you get killed unless you have a ton of mobs on you. #3 for a power spec engineer is pretty much an insta-rally.

Too many engineers think our downed skills are terrible, when they’re not at all. You just have to think outside the box, just like you have to do with the rest of the engineer class.

No one forgot about how our skills work. Which is exactly why they are horrible.

You are downed. You throw junk at your target and watch the crap damage. You throw a grappling line and it downs your target. Great! But they didn’t move toward you….

Now you just need to go 1 to 1 with them to rally. You have a chance! Oh… no you don’t. You can’t move their downed body to you. Means #3 is useless. You can’t use yours on them, since they are out of range. But they can use theirs on you.

You now have the damage of skill #1 and #2 only. They have their whole set.

This is why the Engineer’s sucks. Not because ours isn’t useful, but because ours is the least useful.

I can brag about saving people with #2 and #3 as well. But I can brag way more when playing another profession. Mes #3 does the killing for you while you teleport away with #2. Warrior can just #1 to rally. Necro can fear away a stomp to save an ally. Etc etc etc.

Engineer is stuck in 1 location and depends on yanking people to them to blow them up. That is so situational, it just sucks.

Necromancer. #2 Fear is on a short 10 sec cooldown, and targets one foe. This saves the Necro from one stomp (unless Stability is used). #3 Fetid Ground is simply AoE damage and poison. #1 Life Leech steals health from one foe. Necro is on the weak side of down state skill sets, but can trait to increase their damage by 50%. Missing balance imo.

Elementalist. They are able to retreat a short distance right away with #2 Vapor Form (but long cooldown) toward allies, while immune to damage and avoiding stomps of all surrounding players. This is great when near allies and is only “weak” when Ele is alone. It sets up #3 Grasping Earth to Immobilize foes away from the Ele, to buy even more time. This combo is neither strong, nor weak. The Ele can rally easily by escaping toward friends (incredibly strong in group play). Or they take risk at trying to run from the stomp and finish off their foe through damage (the “weak” component when solo). There is balance, since the Ele has a great chance in group play, and average chance solo (all professions can debate if they are doing enough damage in the solo department when downed, but the utility of their combined abilities needs to be considered). I would argue that without a group to revive the Ele, their downed skills are fairly useless and do weak damage. I would call their down state skill set weak, with the only redeeming feature being the ability to run away toward allies (if they are present). Missing balance.

Engineer #2 Grappling Line pulls one foe toward the Eng, interrupting one stomp. This allows enemy melee builds to then kill the Eng easily. It is poor design. It is supposed to possess synergism with #3 Booby Trap, an AoE knockback of large damage and able to stop multiple stomps. But the timing is so badly off, that the Eng simply pulls in the enemy and dies, with Booby Trap not even close to being ready. #1 Throw Junk is highly weak damage. And we have no useful Traits when downed (which the other professions do have, and strong ones at that). This entire down state skill set is missing balance.

A simple solution is to move Booby Trap with its current damage and functioning to #2 on a 10 sec cooldown. Then for #3, introduce a new 15-20 sec cooldown ability, like the Jet Pack suggested. Or, vice versa, with the Jet Pack at #2 to allow the Eng to fly away, and #3 will be ready by the time the enemy gets near. Also, Booby Trap might need a ranged option redesign, so it goes off at the enemy target location (like Grasping Earth from the Ele), since there is no way to bring in an enemy anymore.

Throw Junk should inflict all three Conditions at once and/or have its base damage increased. There is something sorely missing in its current functioning.

Downed Traits need serious work for Engineer. Dropping bandages and kits for party members does little for anyone’s survival. They can’t move while reviving us, so bandages do nothing for the incoming damage. The kits do nothing. Nothing increases the Engineer’s chance at survival or rallying in Traits. We have no increased damage, no AoE heal pop up underneath us, no increased health or healing, no boons (would love retaliation like the Mes Trait)…. Nothing….

The other professions have some balance and synergy with their abilities, because if they survive long enough to pull off their #3, they rally almost guaranteed. I’ll list the examples, and the exceptions, and why the exceptions still have balance.

Guardian. They blow up with #2 Wave of Light. This interrupts the stomps of all surrounding players (unless enemy has Stability). If they survive for when #3 Symbol of Judgement becomes available, they will rally from the combined heal of #3 and their #4 Bandage ability (or buy time for allies to rez). Balance.

Warrior. They knock down one target with #2 Hammer Toss (unless enemy has Stability). Short cooldown of 10 sec, but interrupts only 1 stomp. If they last long enough, they can hit #3 Vengeance, giving them a chance to rally if they defeat their enemy (100% chance when traited). There is some good balance here, because #3 skill gives the Warr a chance to rally (and take down their foe). Inside an enemy mob, the Warr will be stomped by the others not knocked down by Hammer Toss, but in situations where only one enemy is able to attempt the stomp, the Warrior has an advantage once Vengeance goes off. This has balance in group play if allies are delaying the stomp (the weak and situational excuse) and solo play once Vengeance is ready. It is both insanely powerful, and insanely weak, all depending on timing.

Ranger. #2 Thunderclap is an AoE Daze on a short 10 sec cooldown. This interrupts a whole group trying to stomp on the shortest cooldown of all #2 downed skills. This is insanely powerful in group play, if even just one ally causes delay for the enemy. It is powerful without help. It is just plain powerful (Stability is the only counter, as usual). Combine that with #3 Lick Wounds which revives the Ranger and you have one of the strongest downed skill sets in game. Balance.

Thief. #2 Shadow Escape allows the Thief to teleport where they want, avoiding a whole group of stompers. #3 Smoke Bomb allows the thief to stealth briefly. Stealth allows the #1 ability Venomous Knife. All together, the Thief has a lot of strong abilities and high down state damage. They can retreat toward allies or DPS their enemy. Or both. Balance.

Mesmer. #2 Deception allows the Mes to randomly teleport to a new location avoiding a whole group of stompers and summons a downed clone. #3 Phantasmal Rogue simply does high DPS. The Mes can’t reliably run toward allies, but they can avoid a stomp and with high DPS (#1 Mind Blast is not shabby), rally off their foe. Their downed state skill set is perfectly balanced imo, leaning neither toward too strong or too weak.

Engineers: What do you want to see that we don't have?

in Engineer

Posted by: Hsinimod.5784

Hsinimod.5784

1) Range of Pistol and Rifle increased to max range (1200 or whatever max is). For those of us that have fired guns and shot arrows…. we know bullets go much farther than an arrow. It is highly odd to be kited by Ranger shooting arrows and our bullets fall short. (only in fantasy movies and comics do arrows travel absurd distances, which may be the influence)

2) Tool Kit redesign. Seems no one likes it. It’s just boring. Swing a wrench, toss nails, pull out a magnet… eh… (we need a melee option, but this doesn’t fulfill it)

A friend and I discussed making it “Engineer Tools” and not “any person tools”. Also, making it both melee AND ranged. If the target is close, the melee hits and the range hits. If target is far, only the range hits. The goal is to bring targets close for max damage.

For the new Tool Kit.
A Laser Wielding Saber (like that little known movie in a galaxy far far away) for the #1 skill, which has chain attacks. First is a melee electrical slash that does ranged arcs of electrical burning. Second is a wide swing that bursts with a cone of sparks causing 1 sec blindness. Third is a 360 spin followed by a confusion ray. Or some such design (would be nice to have a more reliable way to put up low stacks of short duration Confusion besides 3 abilities on 15 second cooldowns on 3 separate weapon sets—only 1 of which is ranged).
A Mini ‘Golem-esque’ Robot for #2 skill. Engineer deploys a moving Bob-omb type robot pet (fusion of Mario Bros, Charr, and Asura) that repeatedly attacks target with one type action upon deployment and switches to another action when chained again. (whatever actions seem best, like throwing small bombs or launching poison spikes or electrocuting or force field blocking) Limit on how many can be active at once, if they aren’t destroyed before the short cooldown is ready again.
An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) that flies out in a line, striking the target and everything in its path. Drops sticky napalm in a line, causing Cripple and Burning.
A Grappling Hook for the #4 ability that does pierce and bleed damage in a line (hits multiple mobs if lined up), and yanks them all to the engineer and immobilizes them.
A Gizmo for the #5 ability. Places AoE shield on all nearby, granting stability, and reflects damage back to the source.

Or something like that…. unique flavor for the Engineer, with personality and use.

3) Personal Asura Portal. Set up a portal at your location with traps. Toss out a far range (2000 or so) other end, that then activates and pulls in all enemies (400-600 range), causing them to trigger the traps and be at your location.

Backback Regenerator works. Take fall damage and you’ll see the ticks per second. Nothing that’ll save you though. About 150 per tick.

Same with Infused Bombs. It’s about 150 as well. (give or take whatever your healing is)

I generally like more defensive low damage builds. My Guardian fits that perfectly. My Engineer…. let’s just say (to me) it feels like it lost a lot from its beta days. Weak defense and weak damage (compared to what I can do with other professions) no matter the stat/talent/skill specialization used.

I say try it for yourself. If you don’t like it, don’t stick it out thinking others made it work. It’s fairly mediocre. I use it (but eh, I’m just using it as placeholder until I find something more fitting for my build)

Mesmer is one of the easiest professions to play. There are a lot of defensive abilities, allowing for glass cannon builds to be more viable.

Problem is people get used to playing a certain way in PvP and upset they can’t repeat that in PvE (since mobs target the Mesmer more often).

So in PvE, the glass cannon builds are just not intelligent if you’re not balancing out your defense.

I’m re-queued waiting to play with my friends yet again because the jump puzzle loading screen froze yet again.

And when I finally get back in, I’ll yet again be alone due to the passing of time. And yet again a free kill for the campers that would have been cleared out with my group…..

Stuck at loading screen -EB Jumping Puzzle

This is an old bug. Reported at release (and I think in beta too, but can’t find the old thread to bump).

I’m currently stuck in the loading screen, and once again need to give up since the huge queue in WvW prevents just relogging.

I found it happens 100% of the time if you been in WvW for a while (2 hours or more) and decide to do the jump puzzle last. If you do it when first getting into the EB map, it won’t get hung up.

Similar Situation here. I currently, have 0g 2s 77b total: I am broke.
I gathered the Halloween components required but the other components, like “40 Bottle of Elonian Wine” and “10 Pile of Crystalline Dust”, I have no time/money for.

Well if you have no time and no money then perhaps you shouldn’t be looking at crafting Halloween exotics items. I don’t get it why your crying on the forums??

Alistair, if you lack reading comprehension, why are you reading on the forums??

I’m curious too since I’m holding onto items for later crafting. But the cost involved and the less than unique looks (to me) make me question whether I should bother.

I could just buy the Greatsword skin that I really want and save my mats/money for legendary…. hmm…. but the desire to collect just to have is strong in me….

WoW’s early Holidays were crap. Years later, they became fun and full of flavor. But there never was much story behind it. There was explanation and that’s it.

Mostly, you just did them to collect a mount. Or an outfit that you never wear (looking at you Lunar Clothes and Valentines Day Dress).

GW2, it isn’t much different. You get weapon skins and town clothes. But there is more going on and the event hit the ground running. It can only get better with time.

Thorn was just more appealing to me.

I finished everything, because I spend time reading the forums, the news feed before logging in, asking guild, twitter, facebook, the wiki, the main site, third party sites……

Seriously, ArenaNet posts different information on it’s official channels with near zero uniformity. Twitter might have an important note about something getting extended while no other source has it…. It makes it a pain because ArenaNet does communicate with us, if you are lucky to find where they put the communication at.

Oh, and Reddit and Guru too. Need to check them as well.

So for all of us that already know how an event will work, it is easy to tell others “they should have known”. Of course we’ll say that…. we get to gloat that we found the source. But I’ve always wondered why the login news feed is always listing patches days late, and not listing start and end dates right where people can see them. It would make sense to list gaming information where people play.

Expecting players to look up information about playing a game outside the game is logical to the point that you expect people to spend time not playing a game but instead reading about it. Really, I do read about stuff… but I realize how stupid it is to expect people to spend time their time reading about a game just so they can play it.

There are NPCs around the Fountain that talk about the history and how the races add to it. And that there are still additions to be made.

Josh, that’s a good fit for you to build on to it. How about 8,000 frames hmm? Add 4,000 more each year.

Anti-gravity water works would be nice. The Asura and Quaggan can build a floating aquarium overhead. And Skritt can just glue a bunch of shiny trash in a mosaic pattern.

There is a bug in other loading screens that make you see nothing but the screen stuck loading, but if you are on voice chat with friends they will tell you that you loaded and are standing next to them.

Basically, your character finishes loading, but the screen never goes away and you are stuck. Happens in WvW often enough, which is a pain in the kitten since you need to relog and end up waiting in a queue because you got stuck loading with no way to just make the screen drop.

It’s a bug. It just happens for no reason, and then goes away for no reason.

Try “Exit To Desktop” option in the menu, to fully reload the game. Then log in and rezone into another map, then back to the other map, and then try the guild chat.

I have it happen about once every couple of weeks or so. Or, I can type, but can’t see anyone else responding (any chat). It’s like I’m disconnected, but on TeamSpeak we can tell there is no lag and everything else is working.

I think the bug has existed for so long because Anet can’t reproduce it to figure out why it happens.

I laughed at it, but also got tired of it. Get over it, I killed you. Not my fault I was better and you were worse.

But I’m so glad it’s gone. I no longer get whispered by nerd raging players. (except for the few that figured out WvW whispering…. so far only 1 nerd rager).

It’s the reason names are removed. And it’s a great reason. We don’t need to see names. It doesn’t nothing for combat.

sPvP already has that and maintains the nerd raging if you miss it.

I’m a little pissed off about the seven day change coming up for server transfers. And ArenaNet, if you look at my account, I’ve not transferred in about 4-5 weeks. So it isn’t because I hop around for WvW. I’ve been IoJ since release.

I simply want to play with friends, who are loyal to various guilds from GW1 (or other games), and all picked different servers. And I want the Guesting Feature that was talked about soooooo long ago that still isn’t ready.

I would have been transferring often already, but I been wanting to see if the Gathering bonus from WvW would work (it doesn’t for me and other players, when we haven’t transferred, and is reported in another thread in the Bug Report Forum).

Now, because of WvW, all PvE players are affected. I can’t visit friends, which I finally decided to do since the WvW bonuses do not work. I finally decided to transfer around to avoid bugged events and skill points and do them on other servers. And now, I’ll be locked in for a week because of WvW.

I’m a WvW player on IoJ. I been planted there long. I’m all for stopping the transfers that cause hopping problems.

I’m not for affecting the entire population of players that WvW does not apply to.

This is a crap decision that makes me wonder if any forethought was used on ArenaNet’s part. Maybe the data doesn’t support me, and people that transfer for friends are a small minority? Can you even tell if people are hopping for WvW or social reasons?

My guild is having an event this Thursday. I want to transfer to Tarnished Coast to play with some friends. That means I get locked for a week with one or the other come Nov 1st. And when switching back, I’m again stuck for a week. And this has nothing to do with WvW, and yet I’m affected by it.

I’m with Psirca. Hard to be proud of IoJ. It’s so hit or miss. Call out for help (intelligently and for a key point) and you are lucky if the right people are on that respond.

I can’t tell you how many times people responded the the idiotic player calling for something unneeded (but easy so its a free Gold event reward) and left a key point deserted that was keeping the enemy from pushing us into a defensive only position.

We’ve also had the opposite of having the outmanned boon and being able to push back the enemies on both sides who weren’t outmanned.

The rubberbanding performance and lack of community is a pain in the rear.

I’m ready to look for a new server as well, that actually likes to be with the community. Not only when they are winning. And PvE as well. (Calling for help in Orr for an event that isn’t part of the farm… good luck with that in IoJ)

WvW Turtling - Intended or Not?

Stacking only helps people revive players. It is intelligent. Most run away afraid to help revive players. It’s like pulling teeth trying to teach players how to play well….

Two evenly matched teams, even if stacking, can kill each other with simple AoE. It hits 5 players randomly. So the evenly matched teams using AoE means multiple AoEs in one spot. Which means 1 player hitting 5 enemies. Since they are evenly matched, AoE will pull down the players quicker than rezzing can happen.

Stacking only protects against small forces, in which case, they don’t need to stack anyway. It’s a non-issue.

sPvP is broken. You can’t play with who you want. Your friends that you wanted to play with end up your enemies. How this got to release I’ll never know.

tPvP is just not appealing when sPvP is the stepping stone to it.

WvW…. too many problems to list. So many quality threads about possible solutions. Nothing from Anet yet acknowledging them.

PvE content is fun… but 100% does mean you ingested it all. Valid point.

Legendary grinding is a long term goal. What fun is there to do in the meantime while doing that long term goal? Not much when all the PvE content is finished.

Anyway, this is all new still. WoW took a long time to polish, and it was given that time by being the only quality MMO to play really (EQ, EQ2, and FFXI were just not as popular). GW2 is now the only “quality” MMO to play (for those that aren’t into calling stat inflation “progression”) and has some time to polish.

But for the pure PvP types…. I can understand them leaving GW2. I don’t think Anet is concerned, as they would expect those players back when Anet fixes the content. The wow players I know that went back for the pandas, simply went to enjoy the PvP. I don’t know anyone that went back for PvE. I’d laugh at that opinion. But for WoW pvp vs GW2 pvp…. I’d just be interested in both sides.

I think GW2 has much ironing out to do. But also the time to do it.

Tryin' to figure out what's the logic behind Anet for WvW..... @Orbs

Hsinimod.5784

The problem isn’t with the system, it’s with the community. If a side has 3 orbs or most of the map the 2 losing factions should both be focused on the winning faction. This is the beauty of a 3 way fight. In stead both sides usually just give up or attack the easiest target.

Yep, it’s the communities fault.

Now we only need to teach 500k to 1 million players to all think and play alike. Easy.

in WvW

Hsinimod.5784

The orbs are rarely taken at peak times. Rarely.

So when a server has 3 orbs, and then loses them, and calls it rubbish to say the orbs are OP, that server is ignoring the fact that a nightcap happened. That is the only time when a dominating server is brought back down.

Rarely do enough players convince the playerbase to hit the common enemy. Rarely. When it happens, you get an epic fight and it is fun. And rare.

IoJ and SBI unspokenly teamed up against JQ to allow SBI to take a lead in points and win. 2 servers where jointly trebbing the other and not fighting each other to cap. Unlike SM, where you can often have teamwork by accident, only to then have the 2 servers fight it out and allow the third server to clean up the formerly “allied” servers.

It is rare. People do not think or act that way. It’s why we don’t see Robin Hood types stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. Makes sense on paper, but not real human behavior.

It’s a horrible game mechanic that time has proven.

Asking your server might get a lot of troll responses. Or people being too direct and not guiding enough. In my experiences, people love to help, but also don’t have time. So you get a mix of answers to sort through.

Use the wiki at first. And then look at the 4 maps to get familiar with names of points.

Then, make sure you run with a group, until you learn what you can do “solo”.

You also need to be careful of learning bad habits. Zerging in a circle is effective, but not teaching anything. Players often don’t know when or what is a good target. They hit the wrong places, waste resources, and get the enemies attention at a bad time.

Or, they do the opposite. Ignore key points, respond too slowly, or don’t help their server in the lesser activities (NPC camps are key, setting up siege in hard to destroy locations is key, and mining the jump puzzles is key, and all overlooked).

1 person doing a puzzle is blah. But if your server is able to get groups through timely, and back to fighting, you just geared up a bunch of players to lay siege. And if the community is doing that around the clock, then around the clock people are able and willing to keep doing it. It becomes part of the daily routine and a learned behavior.

All I’ll say is, the community has given wonderful feedback on what to do with the score and orbs to make a balanced game. A game that still rewards winning and gives incentives, while allowing the losers to catch up. A wealth of posts.

ArenaNet needs to look at those posts and take the ideas. It is simply done better—well thought out and superior to what Anet came up with.

I keep looking at this thread expecting IoJ to have closed the gap. Transfers hitting them, or did they just give up? Kind of disappointing if a former T1 just says meh. I get HoD suffering with the mass exodus, so they get a pass… but come on man!

IoJ is wondering the same. Halloween was expected to interfere for a bit, but come on, it takes only an hour and you are done until the next Act. And since IoJ did so well in Tier 1, it is just disappointing that so many players didn’t even bother to come out.

There is no excuse for Sat and Sun to not have closed the gap to even. IoJ is not much of a community server. By that, I mean they rely on certain guilds and commanders to rally the people. Without them, people will not group to do anything. IoJ will not respond. It’s a PuG server of every player for themselves.

When it gets to that point, you’ll notice IoJ will suicide like lemmings by running into enemy players. They become free kills. Telling the IoJ players about other routes around the enemy is pointless. They still suicide. Siege is placed in AoE-able locations. IoJ doesn’t run the jump puzzles to help supply their server. They run from fights they can win. They respond slowly to calls for help or targets to hit…

Without the main force to embolden the rest… IoJ (as a whole) is like HoD or ET. Only a few hold the server together. IoJ rubberbands all over in performance, and this has been happening since before Halloween.

There is rumor that after the first 24 hours, many just hopped to SoS to have an easy week. After all, they can hop back later (if they even bother).

Usually, the problem in pvp games is “too many Chiefs and not enough Indians”. Well… we don’t have enough Chiefs. Or, players just don’t respond to the sensible commands given. Or they respond to the nonsense commands and go after poor targets.

It is night and day when our regulars show up. People play intuitive and well. Makes you wonder why we don’t have that at other times. Can write a research paper on great and poor communication and teamwork by studying IoJ.

I was quite happy seeing some IoJ in the EB jumping puzzle today, I just let them be. Soon as they thought they seen one of my group members alone they pounced him though. Bad IoJ ! didn’t end well for them as they didn’t see the rest of us. My trust is broken

It was more like a single IoJ player goes in and runs from the 20+ SoS at the start, the water, the top of the Well, the Dark Room, and the Arena….

If that IoJ saw a single SoS player, they fought right away instead of risking getting killed.

I’ve never seen so many players in a jump puzzle simply waiting to kill 1 player. Come back an hour or two later, and the same SoS players are there.

People complain and whine all the time. Entitlements and first world problems.

The content was amazing. Can we critique it? Sure. Constructive criticism is always good and adds to the events. Or points out bugs.

Just whining over free and additional content for the sake of hearing yourself speak doesn’t do anything.

If I would critique anything, it would be the Act 1 pace being slow. I enjoyed grinding on the doors, but can understand that after doing a few, people would be wondering where the events are. It would be nice to have the doors enemies invade the zone in a large area and need to be pushed back and the doors destroyed. Something more interactive in a “in your face” way.

I love the “legendary” weapons added. I want more! That’s a great thing to see something and be inspired to want them to add even more. Imagine the next waves.

Armor sets. It would have been awesome to have a Mad King set that looks Lunatic-y. The current one was recycled, but that’s fine. I’d just hope next year it becomes a set.

The Page hunt hints are a bit vague at times, and finding the locations that reward ToTs made many new players ask “is this it?” not knowing there were more locations for the ghosts. It is incredibly easy after the fact, but could have had more ghosts at the ToT locations that directed players with more hints and dialog to the ghost they needed. Basically, more ghosts with more information to guide players in the hunt.

And the jump puzzle could transform the players into ghosts or miniatures to help with the player models blocking each other’s view. (Although, I like it as is with the interference, I wouldn’t mind a change to help the players that hate it and give us more holiday spirit)

The events were great, and without any changes I’ll enjoy them next year as well. The possible changes just make it that much better.

Saying you’re disappointed in the event is one thing. Declaring it false advertising and arguing with people sharing their own opinion is just you being mad and venting on others. People either agree with you, or they don’t, and you won’t change anyone’s mind.

We were told something would happen allowing us to see it if we could. That was the right thing to do. More would be upset to miss it than “to leave a paying job to play a game.”
