(edit: p.s. I bet a mobility warrior or my perma-swiftness gs/lb ranger could outrun a 50% swiftness boost as well)Imagine a GS + S/H warrior rotating those skills with the mount?
sorry, I guess I wasn’t very clear. IMHO, if you’re on a mount, all your skills are disabled and swiftness/speed signets aren’t available (like a golem in wvw)
some classes would be better off with mounts, but other classes (cough warrior, thief cough) would get literally no movement benefit over-all, since they can most likely move faster with mobility skills than they could with a static 50% boost.
also, @runeblade I do have weapons I have equipped. I swap one utility and one trait out and I have perma swiftness plus a mobility on my greatsword. to add onto that, I can go even faster by swapping weapons out for the skill, then swapping back afterwards, e.g. if i’m too lazy to swap for perma swiftness i’ll just swap my gs for a warhorn, cast #5 for swiftness, then swap back. (I guess this is just something wvw players do if you didn’t think of it..)
basically, the movement offset is already there. the difference between class X running moveset weapons vs. class Z running non-moveset weapons is already larger than a 25% boost (25% because most classes have 25% boosts already negating part of the 50% boost (not to mention certain classes DON’T have that boost either)
tl;dr as long as the movement bonus is set within the capabilities of characters designed for getting around fast, there’s no reason not to add them on a movement basis.
I also said it’s something that should be worked on “eventually” not now. as I said, just because it can potentially be bad isn’t a reason to completely invalidate it, and just saying “no lol dead horse” as a lot of people have been doing doesn’t help the anti-mount argument either
if you still have map completion/karma/skill points and such, you can save a lot of money by selling FSP and crafting Meteorlogicus
(to be exact, it’s currently approx 250 sp, 700k karma, 500 badges of honor, 500 dungeon tokens, and 2150g, to craft meteorlogicous. and the gold for selling FSP should cover the gold of meteor.)
(edited by ITheNormalPerson.9275)

-snip-
So the argument is more-so that is has a potential to be bad? that, I can understand as a valid argument. thanks for not just saying “lolno dead horse -1/10”
that being said, just because an idea “could” be bad doesn’t mean that it should be completely invalidated, IMHO.
If I were in control, I would make them 33-50% speed boost, high gold cost, keep wps, and make them un-usable in wvw like most transformation tonics. I could see how complaints could transform that into something potentially bad though.
In short, I don’t think it should be the top of their list currently, as it is just a QoL thing, but I think it “is” something that should be considered eventually
(edit: p.s. I bet a mobility warrior or my perma-swiftness gs/lb ranger could outrun a 50% swiftness boost as well)

possible custom waypoints made by “pulling” the ley line?
cheaper waypoint costs due to better understanding the ley line and where they are?
more waypoints?
lot’s of wp potential with the discovery of the ley lines. at least as much potential as you can have with a wp system
If we were suppose to have 2 pets, couldn’t the second one, be like “Baby version” of another pet, and you have it on your shoulder or back and can have like a passive bonus (that does not take up trait or utility) Like Licking face = small regen or Tiny Bark Apply 1 Stack of Vul every 3 second. or “Baby Sneeze” Every 10th attack gives a 0.5 second chill.
Edit: I just really want a little black jagur kitten on my head that support me while I fight.
this is the best and most adorable suggestion ever. I don’t care about how viable it is I want it now.
my original joke post aside, as a person that probably wouldn’t use a mount, I’m completely ok with them. I’d be against removing the wp system (at least completely) but aside from that, it’s not necessarily p2w and it could contribute to character diversity.
ts;dc +0.5
drooburt, obviously. quaggans are cute.
did I get a fancy sword off of the humans body? i think not
is the quaggan cuter? yup
gold -> X is the fastest way (and arguably only) way to obtain T6 or practically anything in this game via grinding/farming.
i do enjoy a good kaka event though.
I stay at home for the first few minutes of a fight, and if no one tries to combat it, I’ll go help out on secondary objectives on some fights, or go near mid and try to help out from ranged ready to return to home if someone heads there. having map awareness is also very important. if you see 5 enemies at mid it’s safe to assume you can head there as well to assist.
if people do contest it, then i just.. stay there and defend it.
DDO has free-for-all battle pits without any balance even attempted. I’d be all for something like that (couldn’t stop laughing whenever I did it) but that’s about it for any new PvP stuff here.
the first thing i did when i finished the “tutorial island” (I forget the name. the icy place) the first thing I did was go into one of those taverns with a battle pit and hide in a corner. was pretty hilarious.
I don’t get the point behind not wanting dueling so…
Dueling arenas would be cool. +1 or whatever.
mounts only for asurans, called charrs. specifically other characters charrs. and there’s no request either, an asuran can always jump on other charrs backs.
Excuse me for being an idiot, but can someone give me a TL;DR for this? not that I didn’t want to read it (just spent about 10 minutes on it) but I don’t get the point of the post?
do you think gear choices look too silly?
do you think ugly armor is too bad?
do you dislike ugly but also want ugly in the hopes that other people will use it?
I feel like I’m missing the point and just reading an argument about… something.
I’m not sure about mesmer and necro as I haven’t played those classes past 20, but being someone who mains a ranger
“Rangers, I don’t know much about their patch history”
that’s because they don’t have patches ;P
“, but I can tell you that the class has awful issues. Being forced to rely on a pet is fine for most MMOs, but for GW2 its just bad because of all of the emphasis on active movement, and dodging, which pets can’t do.”
Most will agree with you. pet is honestly the only thing I think that’s holding us down significantly IMHO (if the “pets account for 30% of damage” is true, then if pets were removed and rangers got a 30% buff across the field, they would instantly become the best class, I predict.)
" as well as pretty underwhelming traits that are often too pet oriented or too focused on the ranger dying"
Also the power trait-line that has all 3 minor traits dedicated to 1 (potentially a few more IF YOU TRAIT FOR IT) attack per combat (which might be minorly useful in pve, but is fairly unnoticable in pvp)
along with that, I think a lot of the potential is lost due to the trait lay-out in most trees.
" (my guild’s wvw ranger build is to use circle of life to get rangers downed as much as possible for extra water variables..)."
While it is true we aren’t part of the meta, I have to disagree that that’s what is useful for rangers to do. with gs and knights gear, I can survive as long as most heavies when running frontline (no clue of the dps though)
in conclusion, I agree that improvements or reworkings or change of any sort is needed here. possibly not buffing, but we definitely deserve some sort of balancing changes for our class, or other classes.
I’m still waiting to see what has come of the ranger CDI, that we’ll hopefully see the changes of later this year
yespls
it’s going to be especially painful to get the recipes when dry top is no longer the “in” place to be. hopefully they have something planned to make those more obtainable later on
A-Net doesn’t want to sell their game for 90% off during summer? ;P
All jokes aside, something like what the above said. they have to make a deal with valve to put their game on there, that probably has some conditions that they don’t want to make. so instead of accepting those for the benefit of joining steam, they’d rather chance it by it’s lonesome.
at least I can just attach it to my steam account and play it.
I’d like it. personally, I’d like to be able to join different mega-server instances (think maplestory when you first log in) and having 1 or more of these dedicated to ffa pvp.
I believe one of the more popular gw2 youtubers was granted the ability for open world pvp? (I’m not familiar with gw2 on youtube or twitch) if that is true then that means it’s already potentially available to be activated
environmental effects on battles would be interesting and I’d like to see it
is it viable? I’m not really sure, as I don’t have a degree in uber game balance.
can you win fights with it? totally. I’ve used lb/gs for a while now and most people who know me consider me one of the best rangers they know. (not trying to gloat, this is just what others tell me. I think i’m still in the learning phase)
not to mention double-leaps through healing spring is amazing.
A lot of people think of greatsword the wrong way. it’s definitely not got it’s strong point in auto-attack (like most of our weapons.) it’s more focused on maul for damage, and the rest is pure defensive abilities. evade on auto attack, double leaps, a decent block, and a stun.
tl;dr if you want to use it, use it.
small edit: granted, as eurantien said, it probably could use some polishing. but it can still do great if you’re used to it’s weaknesses
(edited by ITheNormalPerson.9275)
I believe dulfy has guides on obtaining every skin. If you want to make your own guide I guess you can use it as a reference point. ( http://dulfy.net/category/gw2/weapon-skins/ (the later pages have specific weapon types))
Rangers a pretty great at open world pve. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were the best (or at least on par with a warrior). just sticking that out there.
that being said, if all you want to do is map completion, thieves can probably get around faster. you’ll have a harder time with communes/heart events though (activities that I as a ranger can just /afk through with no effort)
I’d go with ranger. decent mobility for PoI’s/Vistas, Pets for Skill Points, Easily top tier for completing events without effort
edit: and towards your last 4 questions
1. when you get more skilled with the class you’ll understand more about surviving, so in a sense, yes,
2. No. ranger auto-attacks are our primary dps. i doubt that’s the same for thief.
3. Overall, yes. as I said thieves have a bit better mobility though.
4. I can kill a giant in orr before it can kill my wolf, so I’d say yes.

Playing on crystal desert (a recently advanced to t3 server) I don’t see this dying out everyone else seems to be getting. if anything, when roaming, I see TOO many people. along with near constant zergs on most sides keeping fights very interesting. I’m not sure if I’m alone in this but I feel like most people on CD are very hyped about wvw currently due to recently advancing to T3 and doing pretty well while we’re at it
p.s. we had a 6 person queue on our bl yesterday. even on fridays during season 2 we typically only manage 30 person queues in home bl and ebg
(and that’s not even covering our SEA squads which is one of our best aspects)
EDIT: Maybe i’m just still basking in the glory of silver tier after the dread of FoW WvW

Vee Wee is #1 Engi Na and world first 80
what more do you need to know?
I think it’s more-so that some people just like guns more than bows..
just like how I want a staff because I think most greatswords are ugly and most staves are pretty :P
So I decided to play around with a makeover kit and I gotta say the sylvari female #1 is much better in game than a picture shows. the glow is simply amazing. along with getting the face with the adorable freckles i am extremely pleased.
(note that the hair color itself is almost all white. the pink is the glow effect)

The fossils I wish had some non-rng obtainable way to get. I’ve never been a “gambler” preferring to take the long guaranteed route. at the very least, it’s permanent so in theory I should be able to go back whenever I want. the same can probably be said for precursors as well however :P
along with that, I wish the recipes were obtainable at t1, even if it were in the thousands of geodes. not to be a downer but I have low hopes of dry top events being popular for longer than half a year or so, and then the recipes would be fairly hard to obtain.
Didn’t taimi say that understanding the ley lines would lead to creating even better wps? if anything my speculation would be towards removing or reducing wp costs (though as i said, just speculation)
not to say i’d be against mounts. aside from in-combat, i don’t have a problem with them
Personally I’d like to know the easiest way for people that don’t do pve :P
I would guess if you had 500 craftsman the god backpieces would be cheapest, but otherwise yakkington
do u criticize batman story bcs u knew his parents only 20 seconds ?
when marjory turns into batman, adopts a deep voice, and fights “FOR JUSTICE.” I will be happy.
That would be hilarious. reminds me of dual shield builds in dark souls
Depends what you consider fun. micromanaging the pet is one of the skills i haven’t perfected but is also one of my favorite things to do.
If you aren’t enjoying a class you aren’t going to enjoy it. for example, I tried warrior and elementalist first and they just were not my style at all and were really boring to play. I then rolled a ranger and instantly enjoyed the game 10 times more
was it a staff ele? I could see a bunch of people not paying attention and all getting 3-shot by a well placed meteor shower.
Wow. The corpse isn’t even cold yet.
I know right! it should be with her! or on the ground or something. Seriously, plot hole anyone?
first thought – cannon to destroy the elder dragon!
second thought – epic parkour!
third thought – oh well at least it’s pretty.
I’d like parkour with moving pieces.
Special stuff to people who just buy gems, sure, statistical advantages, no. I don’t think I have to go through all the reasoning behind people being against P2W.
If they need the money, make the game subscription based. sure I don’t like subscription based (edit: and I probably wouldn’t be able to play the game any longer, what with my lack of income), but it’s still reasonable if they need money. there’s no excuse for making a game P2W, in my opinion.

So this is in one of the top voted reddit threads;
I.e Everybody knows it by now
Not everyone goes on reddit.
Is there just speculation to this atm, or do we have a definite clue what this will mean?
EDIT: (too off topic to make it’s own post) @below acts like i know what datamines are

Personally, I like not feeling like the hero. I’m not paying attention to the story anyways. I’d rather be a hired mercenary instead, just doing my job. at least that way I’d get paid for all this >_>
that said, rewards have, – as you can probably tell by my post – been pretty bad. I want more unique skins like those that were available last living story.

Male #1: It’s a pretty neat look. it looks kind of odd from a mesh-standpoint though. 8/10
Male #2: it’s ok. nothing special. 6/10
Male #3: looks like something that’d be on an angsty teen, not a norn, imo. 3/10
-Sylvari-
Female #1: Very nice looking. Tempted to replace my current hairstyle with it. Not a “huge” fan of the little white bits though. 9.5/10
Female #2: Very neat look. not exactly my style though, I do like where they went with it though. 8/10
Female #3: Looks a bit silly to me, but otherwise fine. it’s nice to know a-net listened to the people who wanted scarlets hairstyle (was that it? I didn’t do season 1 ls so it might be different. same look though) 7/10

Male #2: I like it when they go for more than “leaves that look like hair” styles, even if it isn’t my preference. 8/10

Male #3: it’s ok. nothing special. 6/10
-Charr-
Female #1: Emo charr? Otherwise nice. 6/10
Female #2: I’d think those braids would get in the way of eyes. 5/10
Female #3: Decent look. looks a bit too “clean” for a charr cut though. 6/10
Male #1: Not a generic ponytail, but a ponytail none-the-less. 7/10
Male #2: Gives a fairly untamed look to a charr that could be cool for those going for a “battle-hardened warrior” look. 8/10
Male #3: 9000/10
sorry about the long post. I really like hairstyles in this game ^^
also apologies if I gave certain races/genders more attention. I have a bias to prefer certain races (namely female sylvari) so I care more about them :P
tl;dr about a 8.5/10 from me
-snip-
Wars are easy to play and perfect for grinding. Grinding is not fun, but that doesn’t make wars boring. Wars are fun to play too when the content is fun. So, blame the content and not the class.
In pve, every class can be pretty boring to me, but that’s because i find pve boring.
most of my “warrior is boring” point of view is wvw and partially pvp. When I’m playing my ranger, every fight is fun, because even if I’m playing against a bad player, I still need to play effectively to win. I feel as a warrior, even if you don’t play top-of-the-line, you can still win against bad/mediocre opponents, which is what I’m trying to say.
I’m not saying warriors are a bad class, just that, to me (Keyword: it’s just my opinion), they’re boring. I’m not even particularly saying they’re op, just that I have an easy time playing them, and from most people who I’ve seen talk about them, that’s the general case
Why do people play any game on anything other than easy?
I find warriors extremely boring. IMHO they’re the worst class to me, because they’re the most boring to play, and why would I play a boring game.
also, even in dungeons, 5 warriors won’t be as effective as other combos. I don’t know the exact numbers because I don’t really tryhard in pve, but I’m sure some of the more experienced in dungeon running will shut that down.
along with that, in pvp/wvw, warriors are par at best. they’re easy to play, but that means that aside from a few really good warriors, the skill ceiling is lower over-all, meaning being skilled at other classes could potentially put you at a level above 90% of warriors.
tl;dr warriors are boring and overused, which makes them easy kills a majority of the time
I’m still bummed that they aren’t having unique skins as rewards for the achievements. That would make trying to ensure all of Marjory’s abominations survive actually worth the attempts.
Agreed. one of the main reasons I did living story was for special skins.
i took burning damage for a full minute. why haven’t my clothes been burned off and destroyed, anet?
these are the questions they need to answer.
I got around 30 globs of goop and like 2 blues, I think I came out on top
WvW Patch Notes:
-Fixed a bug allowing the Arrow Cart in the living story to benefit from WvW AC Mastery.
You broke da codez :/
worlds last 81?
the design doesn’t really fit with my character, but i really like some of them. most notably
-Axe
-Torch
-Hammer
-Warhorn
-Scepter
-and ESPECIALLY both bows.
the rest are kinda meh in my books though.
it’s too bad I already have a longbow skin or I might have gotten this one
checks body for the sword
kitten ..
i’m not even interested in the sword and that’s exactly what i thought when i saw that, lol.
I hope it gets added as well.
I’ve been playing around with a hybrid build using the celestial amulet in pvp. I still hit decently power-wise but I also have bleeding and a few other condis to help out too (along with more survivability)
I think it’s more of a theorycrafting weapon, but if you want to use it you won’t have to sacrifice much
