I like that guy that talks about his wife in the hunting lodge!
i suggest making him wear sunglasses only at night.
Aside from the precursor, I have no problems with legendary acquisition, coming from someone who recently made my first one.
And the only thing we can do about that is wait and hope a-net does one of the many things they said they wanted to do about precursors.
I would prefer turning pets into defensive/offensive pets with offensive attacking and such, and defensive giving passive boosts to the character (maybe that 30% damage we’ve been lacking ;P) and having 2 special skills (e.g. for wolf, it would be the current F2 fear, along with the wolves opening knockdown attack)
If we go with having both pets out at once, it wouldn’t require much hotkey/ui reworking (attack/return for offensive pets (2 buttons) and utility 1 and utility 2 for defensive pets (2 buttons) would give us 4 buttons, as it is now) however, that could get a bit op. (I can already chain-stun with wolf f2 → lb #4 → wolf leap → gs #5 → drakehound leap → drakehound f2 pretty effectively. having all 4 pet skills on command would just make it even easier)
that might take a lot of effort on anets part though.
at the very least, I’d like to be able to “queue attacks”. right now, my wolf will immediately use it’s knockdown leap, then auto-attack a few times, then do it’s other non-knockdown leap. i’d like to be able to change it so, say, it auto-attacks 3 times, leaps, and if it’s health gets below 50%, does it’s knockdown.
are you asking if there’s a way to make your pet not attack when you start combat?
if so, just set it to passive. there’s no way to permanently stow your pet however, and anet has said they do not want to add that feature as it is the profession’s mechanic.
though I might add not utilizing your pet will be severely gimping yourself. even without the damage, 2 canines have 4 different cc utilities, which is invaluable (at least in pvp)
Ermm…
what they said.
I’m honestly not sure if this is a well made troll post, or a serious suggestion..
I saw a norn ranger use it earlier today, first time i’ve seen it used as an escape… dang that thing is fast…
They wanted it to be equal
but… engineers…
also, haven’t they said they wanted to open up more/all weapon choices for every class?
I’m a bit too lazy to type out a full length post on this as I have done so many times in the past (in other games as well)
put shortly, I agree.
What class are you? will help determine what you need to know in terms of gear and partially what to do.
I recommend working on map completion with your new 80, starting with low levels and working up. you’ll learn most game mechanics along the way.
I play on off hours but if you want to add me, if I catch you in game I can help you out and answer some questions, i’ve done so for quite a few guildies that were new to the game
Personally, I picked the class I enjoyed playing exactly how I wanted to play, then tinkered with the passive boosts to make it a somewhat viable build and now I do fairly decently.
I’ll always say you should take whatever you have the most fun with and try to make it work. in the end, this is a game, who’s main purpose is for you to have fun
ermm… whichever one you like more.

this whole post is basically “The Major Flaw of Video Games.” nearly everything would apply to every other game. in the end, all you’re doing is running around gathering shinies or training your skills to get better at the game, whichever you’re having fun doing, regardless of what’s being played.
also, the lack of a gear treadmill is exactly WHY I play guild wars 2 over every other mmo. if I “needed” ascended gear to preform competetively, then 3 months later needed “Uber Ascended” I would honestly quit playing. I don’t feel like grinding ascended, let alone doing it twice or more a year
(that being said, I would like wvw finishers/more wvw exclusive armor sets)
(edited by ITheNormalPerson.9275)
Partially agree. people who have food (especially +/-Condi) have a huge advantage over those that don’t. not because of skill, but because they happened to have money.
that said, the same can be said for say, ascended gear.
along with that, some foods (e.g. condi foods) are only as expensive as they are because of the popularity in wvw.
I think a better idea would be to severely nerf foods, or balance them. somehow. I don’t want to dish out 1g an hour to be able to play competetively
I have to disagree with this. Ranger makes an amazing escape artist. If you are focused in a zerg fight just stealth and reposition. No one is going to waste time trying to find you when there are plenty of other targets.
tell that to the 2 thieves and a warrior that chased me around a zerg fight for at least 30s-1m earlier today.
regardless of your escapability or tankiness or even class, if a group of 5+ immediately targets you, and you can’t run, you’re basically dead, which is a problem i’ve experienced as a ranger.
Why can’t you run? Why not draw them into your zerg or at least into a position where they are cut off from theirs and laugh when they die? I get focused all the time and I just dance around them or reset the fight if I need to.
as I said, I lasted probably a good minute. I literally ran through the middle of the clashing zergs twice to get rid of them (once with stealth + lightning reflex, then against with stealth + swoop)
granted this zerg had a ton of thieves, but i’m not lying when I say that everytime I joined the fight, at least 2, most of the time 3+ immediately targeted me. there’s only so much you can do against chained basilisk venom and hammer warriors. (maybe it’s the trail of flowers that attracts them :P)
and by run I mean I can’t leave the fight. e.g. in that scenario I was in smc, with our zerg and an enemy zerg clashing in the lord room. not to mention thief shadowstepping makes it pretty hard to escape in confined spaces (3s stealth isn’t enough to avoid a thief pistol #3)

Do you have a prefered trait setup?
Put bluntly, you’re going to have to go through a bit of pain if you want to play a ranger, especially well.
p.s. longbow is as good as most other ranger weapons in wvw (coming from someone who has used it for a majority of my 1k hours)
I think half of the problem is that it’s widely accepted that ranger is a bad class. Of course I’m going to get downed first if every single thief on the other side decides to burst me down, for example.
And I would say a quarter of the problem is in fact, bad players. some of the suggested buffs for the ranger is extremely op, and I don’t want to become an op class (not to mention that I’ve only lost to another ranger once while roaming, and that was me being an idiot because they had a meta build and kited me into a very closed quarters area where my build sucks :s)
and the last quarter is indeed just the genuine need for revamping. Perhaps not buffing, but definitely revamping.
at least that’s my opinion on this matter.
50% Hate
25% L2P
25% Needs Reworking
p.s. and yes, feeling unwelcomed or not allowed in wvw guilds period because of the hate rangers receive, even though you’re doing just as good/better than others, can be painful sometimes.

check your bank/alts/collections/etc./etc.
if it’s no where to be found, and you know you had it, submit a ticket and hope for the best
Combat suits sound like they would give a huge advantage to people with money in pvp scenarios. in pve it sounds fine though
as for airships, I absolutely loved the guild airships in ddo, and would pay a ton for something like that in gw2.
go to your bl. he’s literally right in front of you :P
Agreed with all of the above.
I know if someone targets you, you can see your name… though I’m not sure how you would target yourself, and even if you did, it’s a temporary solution at best
1. No comment.
2. If you aren’t using all/most of your skills, you’re probably doing something wrong.
3. I’m perfectly fine with autoattack as it is. I don’t really understand what you want to change it to either.
4. that option would be nice. I like vindictus’ style of press esc to unlock the mouse, then esc again to lock it
Perhaps automatically wp dead people after 10-30 minutes to prevent it?
While I’m not totally against it, it is kinda annoying not being able to do anything about it
approx 250 days, 1000 hours. too lazy (and internet too laggy) to check in game
@drarnor
isn’t there a setting in the options for allowing collision for npcs?
@Wyrden
chances are that was a scripted event, therefore it most likely isn’t comparable to what’s being suggested.
OT: I like this idea, but as others have said, 150k health is a bit op. I’d say either a <10s duration with no health, or <50k health and effected by all damage
1. I’m lagging too bad for roaming (my internet sucks )
2. I need money
3. roaming gets boring (some matchups feel very empty)
4. the zerg is capturing something important and needs more numbers
it’s generally 1 or 2 of those
Matchups already rotate colors based on the predicted winners/losers
1st – 2nd – 3rd
green – blue – red
OT: I’m ok with this. It’d be neat to have 1 hour “endgame” after a matchup on friday in which you can, and other servers are also on the map and you can talk to eachother as well (congratulating/flaming/finding that one roamer that keeps beating you to rage at) and then an hour “pre-game” like this where you can wish good – or bad – fortune on your enemies.
all the while, allowing pve’ers their mapping so they don’t need to zerg.
if you need a different answer, it’s “nothing”
as they have said, in anets eyes it is working as intended.
Got one earlier in wvw, first one (that I can recall) that was an actual drop.
It’s not out of the question
I’d think most rangers likes their class, or they’d probably have moved on by now ;P
Signet ranger can mimic a thief backstab from 1200+ range semi-effectively.
my favorite timer
I would replace my greatsword for a staff in an instant.
I’m hoping one day they have access to all/nearly all weapon sets on every class. would be awesome seeing all the different skills
Over 9000? amazing!
+1 for the idea and the editing.
2000 deaths, 1000 hours, approx.
I generally will do dumb stuff like run headfirst into zergs, or get ganked by 5 thieves when zerg-surfing (oh, the woes of a ranger)
on a good day I’ll only die about 3-5 times over a period of 5-8 hours, but on bad days/matchups i can die multiple times as soon as I walk out of a door
(edited by ITheNormalPerson.9275)
~300, one zoijas armor box (after I got it I remade my entire build around it lol (cries i’m poor))
i’ve also gotten a coalforge’s weapon box from wiping an enemy zerg
Once you get a hang of the game you’ll slowly start making more money. Something I suggest doing is to either
a.) sell all the equipment you don’t need on the black lion tp
or
b.) salvage everything, then sell the mats on the black lion tp
that’s where a huge portion of my money comes from
I’ve helped a few players out in getting started, so if you need to ask any questions about anything feel free to mail me in game. my play hours are a bit off though so you might have a hard time finding me, which is why I suggest mail
Signet of the Beastmaster is far from a requirement, and piercing arrows is only really useful in large group situations.
I do agree that spreading out the useful traits may be a good idea, though. I just put meh traits into most of my ws tree (aside from barkskin) because there isn’t much in there I want
as a drop? if you have played 4500 hours you should know the answer.
from the tp? it took me about 300-500 hours of in game time to earn enough doing wvw
the problem isn’t necessarily that it’s bad (excusing pve content because I rarely do pve), but that it’s not the best, and there are a lot of tryhards looking to minmax.
at least that’s what I’ve felt, being someone who has played a lb since I started
can confirm, thieves steal my tree all the time
also I’ve used that consumable when playing around with friends, so yes, it could be either/both
So in PvP another player can take it from a Ranger? This was PvE, as the screen-shot clearly shows, and as a PvE Thief I’ve never gotten it as a steal item, so yea if it’s a PvP thing I’d have no idea.
I’m not completely familiar with the thief class, but from what i’ve seen, what’s stolen is based off it’s race and/or class (moas can drop eggs/feathers, for example)
since you’re in the area with bandits, there may be a bandit in there with a “ranger” tag assigned to it, and therefore dropped it when stolen
A thief can drop this after stealing from a ranger.
I have a level 80 thief and I steal all the time. I’ve never seen this item before when stealing. This guy was practically spamming it. Very odd.
I think it is the healing seed pod you can buy from Denton the Durable…
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Healing_Seed_PodThat makes more sense. I’d never seen it before or after and if it’s a purchased consumable that could be why.
If anyone can confirm this… ?

can’t have all the hardcore people hogging this topic ;P
Anyone who’d want this is completely bonkers. The game is filled with so many instant-kill effects that one lagspike could mean redoing thousands of hours…no wait, tens of minutes of gameplay, because you’d never get much beyond that.
as someone who has done rp hardcore runs in other games (minecraft, pokemon, dark souls, etc.) I think this is a really cool idea.
UNLESS, of course, you didn’t even read the topic (or any of the posts) and thought he was thinking about adding that feature to the base game. but who would be silly enough to do that..
I still suggest someone (OP?) start a guild for people like us who wants to do this. I would make it myself but I’ve already created two guilds and I’d only be doing this on an alt :P
I’m assuming cast bars are like the channeled skill bars except visible to everyone (excuse me as I don’t play many other mmos)
if that is the case in this topic, then I’d be ok with it as long as it is an optional thing. I personally wouldn’t want it active.
What are you looking to do in the game? are you planning on playing a lot of wvw (open world large scale pvp) spvp? (small scale organised pvp) pve? (dungeons and such)
also, how good is your computer? that surprisingly plays a role in deciding your server :P
