Let me get a show of hands from any professions other than guardian, mesmer, and maybe necro, that wouldn’t be able to get around on the battlefield without guardians spamming symbols of swiftness.
as a ranger, I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the zerg effectively without guardian symbols.
actually on-topic, I’d be ok if every class had 25% speed OOC, but IIC the speed boost is part of profession diversity. It’s like complaining because a certain class has 1 more leap than you
I doubt I’d really use it, but I don’t see why I would be against it
perhaps have it an option in the settings? (e.g. [] recieve confirmation for large sales)
I’m presuming this is towards the entirity of gw2
in order
10.More challenging PvE content
9.More legendaries
8.More maps to explore
7.Better/More armor choices (especially for medium)
6.Housing
5.Cat ears (i’d buy the heck outta that)
4.Improvements to WvW
3.A new reliable way to obtain precursors (I don’t really care how as long as it’s not rng)
2.More weapons/skills for every profession
1. Profession balance
note: I’m not using this as a place to complain about what I don’t have, but to suggest what I’d like. I love the game currently :P
Ha ha. Priceless!
literally! there’s no more money!
Longbow dps is actually pretty decent at max range, the problem is staying at max range for longer than a few seconds won’t happen (which i’m not really arguing is a bad thing) (i’m not too sure about shortbow dps though, as I don’t care for condi builds)
I’m not exactly a game developer so I’m not going to act like I know the best solution, but I bet it would come from either better closerange dps with bows, or better kiting abilities.
@atheria using logic (oh god, not using logic in a fantasy game!) they are the ones on a big tower, shooting down (keyword: down) at us. they should have better range than us (as they are archer’s, they should have at least 1200 range default, maybe 1500, plus at least 200 since they’re a good bit in the air) also, I haven’t tested, but RTW + EE might be able the match or surpass their range
@chrispy the description “did” say unparalleled..
inb4 “rangers aren’t a bow class” a class called a ranger with no obvious ranged class in an mmo is going to attract bow-users, whether you like it or not. if it’s not a bow class then the problem is that this game lacks a bow class (which in that case, there goes a lot of the playerbase) (and i’m not saying that rangers have to be purely a ranged class. i’m totally ok with swords and such being fine, and I prefer a greatsword as my swap-to anyday.)
EDIT: oh and note, this is coming from a wvw PoV. I don’t really pve and I rarely pvp. if i’m wrong there, then that’s great
(edited by ITheNormalPerson.9275)
I like the idea of giving every class access to every weapon. I’m a fan of diversity :P
I’d rather log in once every 2 weeks (or pay 2.50 if i’m busy) for all the content, than hundreds of dollars for expansions, subscription fees, p2w items, etc. etc…
maybe that’s just me though. I guess i’m weird :/
Personally I’m extremely glad that this happened. For some reason I thought gw2 was boring back when the southsun event was going, and ever since i really got into it again (approx 200 days ago) I’ve regretted it soo much. now I can finally get the fervid censer to complete my armor set thanks a-net!
(now I just need to get the precursor for kudzu and i’ll be all done…)
Though I did think it was a bit easy, though it might have been just as easy as it was in the southsun event
Personally, I loved the gauntlet. It’s practically the only PvE fights I’ve enjoyed. I would be pretty sad if it were nerfed I want harder challenges. I want even harder challenges, stuff I can’t do yet with my skill level (which imo is pretty low)
Maybe I just have masochistic behaviors, but I love fights I can’t win at all/very easily
and p.s. I main a ranger, and it took me 10-20 tries to beat. I could arguably say ranger is one of the easier classes to beat it on. if you use a longbow you can consistently circle-strafe her to the point of barely getting hit at all
edit: ok, I have one problem with it, and that’s that it still has a few bugs. not nearly enough to make it un-beatable though
Personally, I would suggest for a first class, ranger, warrior, guardian, and maybe engineer
classes I would say to stray away from would be mesmer and elementalist, thief, and maybe necro
Reason being that, no offence intended, but you don’t really sound like you fully understand how guild wars 2 works, and certain classes are better starting points. if you pick the wrong profession you could get frustrated and think the game is bad. once you get to around level 40-60, you should then try out every class in case you find something you enjoy much more. it’s super easy to level anyways (I started off as an ele but I just didn’t feel it, but now that I play a ranger I’m loving the game)
and while it’s said that this isn’t your standard mmo, it might help if you say what role you play on other mmos (if you do). even though there isn’t any trinity, there are somewhat muddified roles classes play (e.g. elementalists could be thought as healers in wvw as they are popular for their water fields in large groups)
Hans G***** on CD. I’ve ran into him many times. Talked with him for a bit as well. He’s a nice guy and mostly plays WvW.
I don’t want to say his full name for obvious reasons.
He’s not a dev, simply an a-net employee.
From what I hear, there used to be a dev that mained a ranger, but he is no longer, and hence, I believe the answer is no
(edited by ITheNormalPerson.9275)
My point was not to PvP anyone or prove my skills. My idea was that giving a LB ranger unlimited kiting was OP. The gold thing was only to show how 100% certain I am that a LB ranger that cannot be touched is OP. Picture a condi necro atttacking this monstrosity. Maybe spectral walk get them in the vicinity, but otherwise they are totally hosed.
you did suggest pvping me though… all i did was accept…
A LB ranger being able to run at full speed backwards would be literally unkillable by many builds. In fact I’m not sure anything other than a thief could kill them at all.
literally unkillable is a huge overstatement, imo. since most melee weapons have 1-2 leaps, an immobilize or 2, etc. etc., along with the fact that if they aren’t crippled they would be moving at the exact same speed as us. tbh, i think the only class it’d make really hard vs rangers WOULD be thief, because it would become a lot more difficult to get behind us
I will literally bet my house, my wife and my firstborn that you can’t beat me on a LB ranger if I can move backwards as fast as forwards. It is INSANELY OP. If you can’t kill the ranger in those 1-2 leaps and an immobilize or 2, you can’t attack again at all.
Edit: Thought. I will duel you on a berserker ranger. You can use any class other than thief but you must have the walk command enabled. This should relatively simulate the scenario. It’s not as significant, but it gets the point across. I’ll put 50 gold up.
this is sorta off topic so i apologize if someone is annoyed by this
I won’t put gold up because #1 I don’t have 50g at any one point #2 I’m saving for my legendary #3 I’m actually quite casual and #4 i’m not a fan of gambling, but if you want to pvp my ranger (it’s the only class i know how to play well) I’m always up for improving my skills

I like both ideas of anti-stealth and more mobility.
I know 90% of people will probably disagree but I think we should have 50% speed boost on signet of the hunt. Personally I find the active fairly useless compared to other classes actives unless you’re running one of those one shot wonder builds
and perhaps make all traps remove stealth, and add a trait that will apply 5-10s of revealed as well?
I agree on the point that rangers should have the best mobility in this game, not warrior. 50% speed signet might be too much since it makes swiftness obsolete, but some other forms of extra mobility would be nice.
Yeah, the 50% signet was just an extremely simple solution, because I couldn’t really think of anything other than reworking the fundamental skills of our weapons which, knowing anet, will probably not happen for at least a decade or two.
@the other person
a trait or passive ability to walk backwards at full speed would be awesome
I’ve also thought it’d be cool if certain classes had a larger endurance pool or used less endurance per dodge. e.g. classes like guardian have 1-2 dodges because well, they’re huge bunkery type of people, whilst say, a thief or ranger would get 3-4 dodges. it might sound op but if it takes the same amount of time to regen 1 dodge regardless of class, then it would only mean 2-3 extra dodges per fight
I don’t understand it either. at least you can get 2-3 pieces if you use the tokens…
I honestly don’t play necro, and I rarely pve nowadays, so.. (wait why am I here…)
But honestly, what you just described sounds a lot cooler than my pet. it’s basically a clunky meatshield that has an F2 that causes fear for 2 seconds on like.. a 60s cd. it also does a bit of dps (like 600 at level 80)
if you don’t trait in something it’s probably going to be a lot worse than if you did. e.g. without beserker’s armor a power build would be useless, and without rabid armor condi builds would be useless, in the same way that it sounds like your death shroud is right now.
I’d rather it be that way, however I only wish that an entire class mechanic wouldn’t rely on a couple builds. It’d be cooler if your build determined your class mechanic (e.g. if you use a staff and have a ton of points in… whatever makes a staff good, you get some fancy power that say.. makes your aoes eat people alive and turn them into zombies or something… actually that’d be really neat for wvw zergs… wanders off)
(edited by ITheNormalPerson.9275)
I don’t think you can balance a game around zerging. For literally every other aspect of the game, rangers are very desirable.
Rangers bring some stuff to the table for zergs. Most professions aren’t at their best in a zerg, but every brings something to the table. And in the end, zergs are about numbers and experience more than profession.
I was mostly considering roaming-smallscale (2-3 parties)
aside from downed states being extremely unbalanced imo (my ranger shines so much when i’m down!) I like it.
Not to say that we aren’t good at that (I guess i’ve always gone the “skirmishing” route) but from a wvw point of few, a lot of the stuff provided in the 3rd paragraph is provided by other classes (e.g. I nearly “always” have 25 stacks of might, so I have no point to running something to provide might) and frost spirit dies instantly :P
I like the idea of having a more unique flavor to the ranger class, as long as it doesn’t get op.
I didn’t realize people playing casually meant it was an “epic fail”
as for the lack of competitive nature which seems to be the theme of this topic… I’m a fairly casual player, so I’m fine the way it is
Applied trap? meh, sounds about as useful as the stealth trap
now, if we had a 30-60s “boons cannot be applied to this group, debuff” trap…
Rank ~200, i’ve gotten zero
I got my first ascended drop at rank 7 in pvp though. a rabid ring.
IMO, PvE and PvP both have toxic players. SO COME WVW WITH ME
joking aside, I personally don’t think any side has a “more” toxic attitude. But that doesn’t get rid of the fact that they do have toxic attitudes. the fix: remove all the jerks from the game.
oh well..
edit: p.s. there’s no clear indicator that you should do hotjoin before soloque, so if you’re gonna get upset over newbies entering soloque, it would be better directed at anet or something (now, if they blatantly ignore your advice to try hotjoin..)
(edited by ITheNormalPerson.9275)

So you can make a profit selling them. Honestly I wish the timegate was longer so I could make more profit and eventually have my 500 huntsman pay itself off :P
The game was super easy even with my first character. I welcome this new challenge (though this is the dark souls side of me talking, so i doubt everyone agrees with me. No real way to fix it though without adding a difficulty slider…)
I’m also a completionist/collector, so having more stuff to collect makes me real happy (skins/traits)
I’m ok with most of this, though I’d prefer no punishments for the first disconnect at all. I feel most people are in the same boat as me, in that my internet is totally sucky and i usually d/c once every day or two before i can get through the match. I don’t think I should be punished because my internet is bad (and I don’t manage my isp so I can’t choose to swap to other isp’s, and even if i could i live in the country and I only have 2 ISP choices, both of which are just as bad.)
salvaged 8 rares yesterday, got 11 ectos. salvaged 4 rares today, got 3 ectos
not to say that’s enough evidence to dispute a stealth nerf. but neither is salvaging 25 rares
Pink Quaggan Hat
CoF Shoulders (Hidden though :P)
Whisper’s Coat
“Named” Pants (Karma vendor I believe)
TA Gloves
CM boots
Gift of Battle
Exotic Armor (a really cheap way to gear alts imo)
Siege (or gold, since you can sell siege now)
Save a bit whilst buying ascended trinkets from the Laurel Vendor
I would like more uses for it, but I don’t think it’s useless (i’ve gotten a good 10-20k and I only keep about 2k~ at a time because I buy stuff with it)
EDIT: oh, and you can get some skins with it. ;D
there’s that tournament coming up… ;P
I think the problem isn’t so much directed at any specific set of people, but moreso a lot of just people in general have a harsh temper.
Most of the things people complain about, takes skill to learn, or you wouldn’t know unless you do extensive research (which you shouldn’t have to. If i “HAVE” to go anywhere other than the game to learn something, then I don’t think i should be blamed for not knowing it)
Yet I would bet it goes the other way around, with people simply refusing to learn or take advice
the only way to mitigate it is to simply remove the players from eachother, or the players could y’know, not pointlessly rage over the internet about a video game?
Funnily on patch day I saw a newbie and a “veteran” arguing, presumably the veteran was upset at the newbie because they lost just beforehand, and the veteran LITERALLY said “learn to pvp before you join pvp”
P.S. this is coming from someone with only 70 games, sooo… meh.
P.P.S. I didn’t realize tournament matches were supposed to be for the “serious” people, until I read this thread…
P.P.P.S In WvW, you cap stuff faster the more people you have on it. So don’t hate someone for not realizing that it doesn’t apply to pvp (I sure didn’t know)
I sorta told people that as soon as ranger started working properly, and competing on equal grounds, that people would say it’s OP :P
This may be the start, perhaps?
Well, you’re all lucky. I’m stucked at 30% progression and can’t get any reward anymore. I tried to take a new track and still the same problem. I just sent a ticket to Anet, hopefuly, they will be able to help me.
I’ve heard if you use hotjoin it will lock your progress out around 25%. try doing solo/team queue
imo, it seems the “final reward” isn’t really a “final reward”. not to say it’s unrewarding. the entire track itself is really nice (I got 2 arah weapons and 100 tokens in a day, which is a lot for someone who doesn’t run dungeons!) but the final reward itself doesn’t feel very special. Maybe that’s what they’re going for, I dunno. I’m not too upset though..
maybe i’m just an optimist but if you look at it as a whole, you get 3 arah weapons, 2-3 armor pieces (if you buy one with the token boxes you get), a bunch of champ bags, and a bunch of transmutation charges, along with about 10 tomes of knowledge. that’s pretty nice for something that takes me about 4 days (2 if I focus on it)
I don’t know about others, but the only time I see trays used is once or twice on friday when we’re queueing up wvw. Maybe that’s why?
First, rangers don’t have 2000 range on ANY of their weapons. The longest is 1,200 with a total of 1,500 if you trait.
Actually, if you trait eagle eye and read the winds, due to the way the game determines range, for some reason you can reach even further ranges. Even when I first started playing I noticed being able to shoot targets whilst my skillbar said I was out of range. I don’t really care enough to test it, but 2000 range doesn’t sound out of the question.
as for OP, i don’t really care about class balance good luck with that though.
EVERY ASPECT OF THE GAME REVOLVING AROUND THE GEM STORE
I didn’t realize this! I’ve only spent money on a salvage-o-matic! if I knew this, I would have gave them the proper amount of money for this game. I knew something was messed up when i only spent $80 on an mmo!
goes off to buy some gems
But seriously, nah, i didn’t really notice the gemstore becoming more prominent. Maybe i’m blind…
I really like it honestly! though it’d be super awesome if I could keep that, eagle eye, and piercing arrows :s I think i’d prefer if it were on the skirmishing tree.
But will i be able to wear it in PvE?
As far as it sounds like to me, it’ll work like any other skin in the game, so yes.
Personally, I don’t think we’re “that” underpowered. I think a couple minor buffs in different areas would help, but as much as some rangers want and we’d quickly become extremely op
Honestly, i think a lot of the problems stems from things other than class balance. For me personally, I think these are the problems
1. the pet. as I said, I don’t think it’s as bad as (/voluntary interruption to get rid of the kitten) some people make it out to be. but it would be nice to get some improvements. better AI, a bit more survivability in zerg fights (perhaps aoe immunity?), the ability to queue your pets attacks (e.g. now, if i send my wolf to attack, 9/10 times, he does a knockdown on his first attack. i’d like to be able to set it up so it does say, 3 normal attacks, a knockdown, then F2)
2.we think we’re underpowered. this is purely psychological, but, if you think you’re bad, or if you think you have a handicap, you’ll do worse than if you think you’re strong.
3.others think we’re underpowered. anytime i’m roaming with friends, and we run into another roaming party/zerg, guess where the thieves go? straight onto me. rangers are a typical “easy kill” to a lot of people, and therefore they will target you first. at least that’s what it feels like
wvw isn’t really the essence of fair in the first place, imo. I don’t think it’d be much of a difference (EBG, bloodlust, number advantages, etc.)
personally, i’d like to see the same map for each bl, but have it change out each season. or perhaps have a voting thing on what people would like to see.
WvW zerg: Longbow with piercing arrows will have a much larger impact (plus more tagging)
PVE: Probably longbow. the only pve i do is typically world events where tagging is really all that matters, so it wins there too. (though imo in open world pve your weapon choice doesn’t really matter, it’s easy regardless)
sPVP: not sure, though if I can take a guess, I bet it’d be shortbow
Dungeons: I don’t do these often either, but I but shortbow would win there as well due to most people wanting stacking
As a general rule, never trust anything RNG in GW2 :P
But, if you have the money, you can just outright buy the skins off of the tp. They’re pricy, but they’re cheap enough that if you really want that skin it’s not out of the question
We need to be feared, especially at range.
A ranger isn’t meant to be someone who attacks “from range”. They’d be called an Archer if that was the case. A Ranger in this case is a roamer, a wanderer. Common misconception. Naming the class Ranger was a terrible decision for this very reason.
directly from a-net themselves
“Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows. With traps, nature spirits, and a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation”
That sounds like we’re supposed to be good “from a distance”
not to say we’re archerers in a medieval sense (that’s more the warriors job, imo) but it’s undebatable that we’re supposed to be a ranged class (which is where a lot of the problems stem from imo, melee>ranged most of the time)
Except only certain builds are effective in those areas. Different builds and playstyles are vastly differently. If you enjoy open world PvE ranger, you can never take that build to wvw and expect it to perform. If you like open world rangers, it doesn’t mean you would like wvw rangers either. People who like pve doesn’t necessarily enjoy pvp, it is the same concept.
while your comment is very true, this is the same for every class you play.
even to the extent, that
A WvW zerging build is not very good for WvW roaming havoc (vice versa);
A PvE open world build is not the best Dungeon build.
A PvP home Point defense is build is not the best roamer or far point attacker.I play all content, though primarily WvW and i will re-trait a few times a night. The free on the fly trait reset is going to be great.
All classes suffer form this to some to a lesser extent.
but this is kinda off topic.
This is very true. you’ll never hear an experienced wvwer ask for a pure zerker, however that is one of the few (if only (i don’t pve, sorry)) builds that’s asked for in experienced dungeon runs and such
and I sorta agree on the rangers being good solo. If you use certain builds they can be pretty great, however most of those builds are usually sw/x and involve sustain/traps/condi/etc. which isn’t really the way i enjoy playing :P (I personally played a ranger because i enjoy ranged classes, and i’ve always been a fan of the simplicity of pure damage)
I reiterate, try every class and just play whatever you enjoy the most. I could go so far as to say you will become more skilled at a class if you enjoy yourself with it, and therefore the class you enjoy enough is the “best class” for you
(edited by ITheNormalPerson.9275)
It depends what you mean by worth it. Personally, I believe if you are equally skilled with an opponent, ranger will lose most of the time. However, I still play a ranger because I just have more fun with it.
It is, after all, a video game. Just play whichever class you enjoy the most
I see, i always open up stuff in a bunch of tabs and get confused as to what’s what :P
Piercing arrows are only useful in large group scenarios or mesmers, imo. (that’s the only reason i use it, because i run with anti-zerg groups sometimes) so i suggest replacing it with eagle eye
i still really suggest replacing the bm tree with skirmishing. that 20% reduction on your longbow is potentially a 5-20% increase in dps that you’re missing out on. (not including the 20% increase to crit damage and 200 precision)
the difference between full zerk and having knights is the difference between getting 1-shot by a thief and getting 3-shot by a thief. I didn’t run full zerker for long so i don’t have much other comparisons :P the exact numbers is about a 15% decrease in damage you take, which is actually more notable than it sounds, especially in large group situations (as you’ll be taken 100,000+ damage over a few minutes running frontline), but it’s also notable in solo roaming as well.
it also really freaks other classes out when you get good at pvp and then last a good 20+ seconds at >75% health (it seems other people are accustomed for treating rangers as free kills, so when you aren’t one…)
(edited by ITheNormalPerson.9275)
