I’m having more fun on my Feral Druid these days. Besides it’s developed by a company that fired certain employees out of the company for good reason back in the days. (you know where they are now)

I have AntiAliasing, Smooth graphical game-play, abilities I can use while moving, more than 1 Skill bar on my screen, actual GMs within the game, actual game Options within the game, ect., ect. This could go on for days. Anyway, I don’t mind the Walt Disney graphics. At least it has a well educated development team behind it.

Please, let’s not take the discussion there.

Acrobatics X – Assassins Reward. Increased healing scaling by 35%. Moved to Grandmaster Tier.
fine.

I actually thought that was fine, too, although I didn’t think the 35% increase was enough to justify moving it up a tier, since the healing is massively underwhelming as it is.

Then I realized that, after this patch, if I put 30 into Acrobatics for this trait there’s absolutely nothing I’d want in the Master slot. I’d probably still take the vigor-on-heal trait, but nothing remaining in the Master tier looked even remotely appealing enough for me to want to pigeonhole myself into Acrobatics.

How influential was Avatar in making Sylvari?

The Na’vi are large, blue, cat-like hunters with a living core in their braids that can “plug in” to the plants and animals in their world. The Sylvari are sentient plant-beings, and are literally the fruit of the Pale Tree. They are naturally smaller and more willowy than Humans.

I can perhaps see a resemblance with the ability to give Sylvari cat-like or pixie-like features, but I think that’s more of a “based on fairies and elves” foundation than it is a direct resemblance. Other than that mythological basis, I think the two species are as different as they could possibly be in terms of physicality and culture.

When does this end?

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: Imagi.4561

Imagi.4561

Yeah the only 2 achievements she has left are the Lich which is undoable since everyone stopped doing that a week after the event started, and the repeatable activity one. Unless the activity one (that gives a chest for doing 8 games) gives an achievement towards the meta, I don’t know what she can do.

Just so you know, the Lunatic Inquisition achievement for doing 8 games doesn’t count towards the Blood and Madness progress.

If you can’t complete a Halloween-related daily event, then I think she might be stuck without the mini. The only advice I can offer is that she doesn’t need the mini to complete the second Halloween instance, which has three achievements attached to it—she only needs to be grouped with someone who has the mini.

Scavenger’s Chasm in Malchor’s Leap is far and away the hardest and most time-consuming, from my perspective. Even with a friend guiding me through, it took well over an hour.

I dislike it enough that whenever someone says a different puzzle is the “hardest” or “most challenging,” I always assume they’ve never tried Scavenger’s Chasm.

Any updates to the fractals will need to include additional update to the reward systems as well, agreed.

As for the jet pack, those specific rewards are intended as limited rewards you can only earn during that time, thus making them valuable. It wouldn’t be fair to the people who did earn jet packs for us to bring them back, and suddenly undercut their value entirely.

Isn’t their participation value pretty much nonexistent, given the fact you can buy them?

Don’t you mean “loud minority”? There are hundreds of them in this game. If you havn’t noticed, more people think of thieves as a joke rather than a threat.

I would like to add as an example:

Jagex revamped Runescape’s combat which cause over 50k players to end their subscription. Those 50k players did their best to ruin Jagex’s reputation by spamming youtube and several other sites in protest of the update. Even after 6 months of abuse by these players, Jagex is still standing with an extra game (07scape), a charity going on as well as bonds which players are eating up right now.

The community is now overall a better place because the loud and obnoxious minority (runescape’s PvP community) left.

In this case its quite the opposite since it seems anet is catering to the loud minority. Now you might think it’s just about permastealth which isn’t the problem in and of itself, but really its just general hatred for the profession and any buff will be met with backlash. In the end, thief players will just leave the profession and every new thief player will eventually find out how bad the profession is as a whole because the people who have complained this profession to death finally got what they wanted.

And as a price, this game now has 7.5 professions total.

That’s business for ya.

Stealthers aren’t this hated in other games because once they commit to a fight they can’t disappear mid fight. It’s clearly not a minority who hates this. Anet has the facts, and they wouldn’t respond to a minority. I for one, trust anet to do what’s right for the health of the game. They have data, we don’t.

Players also have facts and data; there’s a multitude of threads where people contribute their calculations, comparisons of like skills, and general number-crunching. Which data, I wonder, is ArenaNet using?

Also, it’s a long-known American idiom that “the squeaky wheel gets the grease.” Minorities can get results, if they’re vocal enough. If they couldn’t, then women probably still wouldn’t have the right to vote, and there would still be segregated drinking fountains.

As a d/d Ele, the only Ele I could not defeat was a full bunker s/f. We fought a few matches. It was funny because everyone that came between us died. He went undefeated. I died only to him. They were memorable fights. He was close to dying many times, but focus has enough defense to allow heals to win by attrition. Most of his hits did not make contact, but eventually my dodges and heals ran out every time.

On what server was this on? I still haven’t met a single good s/f Ele that my burst s/d Ele can’t defeat. I really would like to encounter them

I fought a good s/f ele two days ago. I still beat him on my condi d/d spec, but he surprised me.

When you find an ele using a focus, you may as well have won the lottery.

I really love D/F and I’d like to start experimenting with it in PvP, but I’m not nearly confident enough with my skill. I feel like if I make a single mistake on my Ele I’ll instantaneously keel over dead.

Gw1 ele vs Gw2 ele

in Elementalist

Posted by: Imagi.4561

Imagi.4561

I think the core of the difference between the Elementalists in both games is how the build system works for each, and how the traits/skills synchronize with the system. In the original GW the build system was based around 5 attributes, similar in theory to the GW2 traitlines, and as other posters stated the GW Ele would specialize in one or two attunements.

Another key difference is that GW2 is entirely based around skill/attunement cooldowns, and in GW it was energy (mana) management.

If you enjoy offhand pistol enough to go through all the trouble of making it or getting the gold to buy it, though—and you’re determined not to play Thief anymore—just leave both weapons on your Thief, park it at the end of a jumping puzzle, and wait for better days.

If you do salvage Quip and they make Thief better in a later patch, you’ll hate yourself.

That sounds promising. Don’t forget there are lots of other Firstborn besides Caithe and Faolain, some who work especially with “saplings” and try to teach them in the ways of the world.

There has been a great deal of protest for this change and there are a multitude of other significant changes being implemented. I feel like this should be enough to warrant a delay until they’re in a position to do a weaponset overhaul, at which point it might not even be necessary.

I wish there was a “don’t view this user’s post” option – he was funny at the start, now he is just pathetic.

I disagree. This community shouted anyone down when the unfairness of permastealth was raised. It cannot think to the good of the game, rather only advocate for its narrow self interests. If I were Anet , I would use this forum’s input only as fact checking. If were up to many in this community the glaring op issues would never be touched.

Can you provide links to these discussions you speak of, where the majority of people contributing were supporting permastealth? At most, I see people tell those complaining about permastealth to “l2p,” but it’s pretty unanimous that it’s a cheap tactic whether you can counter it or not.

Also, which “glaring op issues” are being ignored by the community?

It’s quite humorous to see so many frequent posters suddenly emerge from the woodwork to admit that permastealth is an exploit of mechanics, when only a few months ago they all chanted that its impossible. Indeed, humorous.

Which op issues? The ones nerfed over the last year.

It’s impossible to do damage in permastealth, so while the build is an exploit it’s both impractical and ineffective. I’ve seen that statement in various forms a lot, and I agree with it. Perhaps that is the common argument you’re referring to?

Which “glaring op” issues are you referring to, specifically? There have been a lot of nerfs over the past year, considering that’s the majority of this game’s life so far.

The reason I play sword thief

in Thief

Posted by: Imagi.4561

Imagi.4561

IS/SR needed a nerf, it acted as a stun break and a condition cleanse with no cooldown and 1200 range.

Warrior is my second main but he doesn’t even have a third of the play time I have on my Thief because they’re so easy to play. Which makes it really boring imo.

Stun removal has been removed from this ability for a very long time, where have you been? It only removes ONE condition.

Keep complaining though, it’ll be completely removed from the game before January.

This was funny.
I was saying to a friend : By next year, when you press the sword #2
the sword transforms into a dead fish to slap your foe -
like a Monty Python skit.
Actually, the next patch reminds me of the “Spanish Inquisition.”

I would be happy to see more pet options. Any or all of these—which are already in-game, and often kept as pets by non-playable species like ogres and krait—would be amazing:

  • Barracuda
  • Basilisk
  • Bat
  • Doe/Stag
  • Dolphin
  • Dolyak
  • Electric fish/eel
  • Firefly/Bee/Wasp
  • Marmox
  • Manta ray
  • Minotaur
  • Parrot
  • Rabbit
  • Raccoon
  • Raptor
  • Rock dog
  • Sea turtle
  • Skelk
  • Skale
  • Toucan
  • Triop
  • Warg
  • Whale
  • Wind rider
  • Wurm

And plenty of creatures that could be added into the game, but currently are not (although some were in GW1), such as:

  • Alligator/Crocodile
  • Beaver
  • Cheetah
  • Chimera
  • Chupacabra
  • Coelacanth
  • Crane
  • Dogs (how many hundreds of dog breeds are there, and we have Krytan Drakehounds)
  • Elephant
  • Grindylow
  • Hinkypunk (will ’o the wisp)
  • Hippopotamus
  • Hydra
  • Iguana
  • Kirin
  • Kveldulf
  • Lion/Lioness
  • Ntouka
  • Manatee
  • Mandragor
  • Manticore
  • Mantid
  • Meerkat
  • Nian
  • Ocelot
  • Otter
  • Panda
  • Penguin
  • Phoenix
  • Roc
  • Seal/Sea lion
  • Simians (tarsiers, marmosets, orangutans, etc.)
  • Snakes (GW2 used to have these as trash creatures)
  • Tiger/White tiger
  • Tusked Howler/Hunter
  • Wallow
  • Wendigo
  • Wyvern

There are literally hundreds more possibilities, but I thought this was a pretty comprehensive list of potentials. Quite a few of these have precedent in the original GW.

Edit: The forums were giving me the finger when I tried to italicize the creatures that appeared in the original GW, especially with the links. After several failed attempts to fix it, I took it out altogether. Sorry!

December 10th Elementalist changes

in Elementalist

Posted by: Imagi.4561

Imagi.4561

I originally posted this in a separate thread, but have since realized it goes here if I’m hoping for Dev consideration .

On the concept of making people branch out in their Elementalist builds, with less absolute reliance on Arcane, I have a counter proposal for the Devs~

General: It would be nice to see more synergy between the elemental trait lines. Give me obvious, tangible reasons to build 30 Fire & 30 Earth or 30 Air and 30 Earth. Make elemental “pairing” sing. There’s only 6 possible pairs among the 4 elements, go through and deliberately make sure each pair offers something (probably by way of their 25 point minor trait) that has specific utility and application if you have 25+ points in another of the 4 elements. Give us an incentive to break away from the tyranny of Arcane rather than increasing the opportunity cost of Arcane in the hopes that we’ll maybe give up on the cornerstone choices in that line.

Specific: Dump all-aspect recharge% from Arcane entirely. Rather than neutering it down from 60% to 30% for a whole line’s worth of investment, keep the current recharge times and ADD “+50% recharge% for that element only” to each of the 15 point minor traits for each elemental line in addition to their current effects. Do you want fast recharge for Fire attunement? THEN SPEND POINTS INTO FIRE! Splashing 10 is not a commitment. Splashing 15? Cool, you get fast recharge for that Attunement. 15 points is also a low enough number that you could see a “fast-swapping master” built on 15/15/15/15/0 with 10 points left over to mix it up.

But what to replace the class specific boost of arcane with? Make it a stat buff that varies with your attunement! Make it “double down” on the attributes already associated with that element as seen in their trait lines. A fully fire-traited elementalist in Fire Attunement with 30 points in Arcane should get a huge bump to Power and Condition Duration (the Fire line bonus). When he shifts attunement to Earth, that Power and Condition Duration bonus morphs into a Toughness and Condition Damage bonus (The Earth trait-line attributes). Make points into Arcane something that reinforces the flavor and playstyle of your other choices, rather than diluting them.

Less “I want to be a hydromancer, and arcane lets me get away with occasionally swapping through other attunements…”

More “I want to by a hydromancer and arcane lets me stack even more vitality and healing power while in water Attunment, making me a BETTER hydromancer!” With it built-in that being a 15+ point hydromancer means you can get back to that attunement quickly after rotating out to answer some specific need.

This concept is wonderful, and I love it.

The only thing black powder can’t provide is protection against carpet bombing down targets.
Keeping in mind we can still teleport stomp, with shadow step, but we are still giving up a utility/actual stun break to do.

From what I understand, using IS requires using a utility anyways, or burning your Steal.

Yeah you burn your steal (35-20s cooldown) with it, instead of burning shadowstep (50-40s cooldown.)

Jon

While I appreciate your answer and I can understand the reasoning, the IS stomp still requires more preparation than it’s counterpart. And, as evilapprentice pointed out, you are sacrificing whatever capabilities that Steal provides.

Not to mention that if you have Shadowstep traited but not Steal—which is how my build was in a previous setup—the difference in cooldown is only 5s.

The only red post I could find was the standard “post bugs to the bug threads” one that everybody got.

Start Finish > Return (safe area) > Steal, Inf signet, shadowstep back to land the finisher

There are a few ways for this:
1)Down enemy
2)Precast Inflitrators Strike
3)Press F
4)Teleport to another close by enemy somwhere near with either Steal or Infli Signet
5)Wait a Moment
6)Use Shadow Return

Might be usefull against a Guardian if you don’t have Shadowstep, or when it’s
on cool down, since the Blind from Tactical Strike isn’t as reliable.

But but of those methods require preparation and/or burning Steal or one of your utilities. Did this really make the sword teleport that problematic that it needs to have the instacast taken away?

And it still sounds like less of a guaranteed stomp than the safety that Black Powder or Blinding Powder can provide.

There is something interesting he said:
The more toughness you have, the more you get attacked.

I did not know this. I thought PvE was mostly random.

There seems to be more to it than that but that is one element of their wacky aggro system.

That’s what I’ve been saying for a while but people dismissed me and said that’s not how agro works. There you go, yeah it is. Toughness = Agro.

Yup, has to be something or the Champions would be full on ele killers. This is the one thing that the supposed tank classes, Guardian and Warrior have a lot of, Toughness.

It’s a kitten shame that my Ele still pulls aggro, then, because I’m running 20 in Earth while the Warrior beside me is full glass cannon.

And he still has more survivability, but that’s a discussion for another thread.

Time to rethink town clothing

in Living World

Solving town clothing is pretty simple.

1) Everyone wears town clothes in minigames.

2) Release more minigames.

3) Minigames include town clothes as part of their rewards. Town clothes can also be crafted, purchased from karma vendors, earned as story rewards, purchased directly in cities, or discovered from mini dungeons/jumping puzzles, etc.

4) Headgear now has three different options: Display headgear armor, display town clothes headgear, or hide headgear. Want to look cool? Kill Tequatl. Want to look awesome? Kill Tequatl at night while wearing sunglasses.

I’d love this solution, because I would have sacrificed half of my spleen and possibly an earlobe to be able to wear the Bloody Prince mask on my Sylvari.

I actually enjoyed the clothing system in LoTRO, where you had several “outfits” in your character panel that you could wear as you pleased.

I’d actually prefer a library of some kind in the home instance, or one in every major city, instead of restricting the lore material to the Durmand Priory libraries that currently exist. That’s rather limiting, and I’m sure that characters of non-Human races would like to read up on this stuff without having to travel to Queensdale or join the Durmand Priory to gain access to the archives in their headquarters.

"Finish Them!" in PVE -- no, please?

I just wish the finishers were class related, rather than generic. I mean, if you’re going to force us to finish them, it should at least be stylish by default.

The default finishers could be the GW2 equivalent of GW class/gender dances! I’d try to finish at every opportunity if they did that.

But I seriously doubt they’d ever do it, since one of the goals with this is clearly to sell finishers, which people are less inclined to do if their default finisher is fun.

No offense, but the content of the thread is a bit of a letdown compared to the implication in the title. You might want to say “Revealed Podcast” instead of just “Revealed.”

December 10th Elementalist changes

A note: in this discussion I am exempting all staff and focus builds from consideration, staff because I believe it is in a good position as a WvW and PvE specific weapon that is solely intended for group play and focus because it is so clearly in need of a redesign that it is simply irrelevant outside of Fractals.

Aw, but I love focus. Have you read Zelyhn’s D/F sticky?

Weapon Swapping For Elementalist?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Imagi.4561

Imagi.4561

I just want in combat weapon swapping for scenarios where I change situations where one weapon is vastly inferior in one scenario and superior in the other and I can’t get out of combat in between. Take for example in wvw, staff gets murdered in 1v1 roaming so dd or sd is necessary when away from the zerg. However if you wish to join the zerg, staff is the best way to go with water fields and lots of aoe. Put the swap on like a 40 second timer or more so one can’t essentially get 8 weapon sets at once but don’t make us get out of combat every time situations change.

I agree with the problem here, but I think the solution is to make characters exit combat faster. The amount of time we remain in combat currently if we don’t kill the enemy feels absolutely absurd, especially in PvE situations where you don’t know why you’re in combat.
