The menu doesn’t pop up if you’re holding your right mouse button. If you let go of your right mouse button, it should come up like it normally does near a downed opponent.

But yes, it is highly annoying and I hope it gets hotfixed in the near future.

Also, I believe that this type of post is against the Code of Conduct for the forums, specifically this part:

I’m not sure thieves will get much sympathy on the profession balance forum. Certainly not from me, that’s for sure. I personally can’t wait to start mowing them down in WvW with the post-patch rapid fire. Their QQ tears will be like a fine wine on a mild summer’s evening.

I’ll have a drink with you. As a mes who doesn’t tend to run condition builds, thieves have no problem or QQ about how easily they can mow a mes down. We can’t really handle that high mobility combined, high burst, and stealth (i.e. no target to put clones up against). I will drink long and deep after this patch from the thieves tear well.

I trust you shall be putting that change to iLeap to good use against thieves, my friend.

I see this statement a lot in threads discussing Thief changes, and it’s often given as if it were a fact instead of an opinion.

I think Thieves are a lot of fun to fight.

I’m inclined to agree that your zerg was unskilled, if thirty people couldn’t catch a single thief in ten minutes.

I think the Dervish could have its own niche in Guild Wars 2, if ArenaNet took care to separate it from the Guardian. It would be a very distinct class if Avatars were the profession mechanic.

As stated above, having faith in a cause does not necessarily mean you have to be tied to a religion. I would get a kick out of having a Sylvari Dervish that is a zealot for preserving the environment.

Considering that the toolkit and the bomb kit have the exact same backpiece, I’m not sure how the backpacks are supposed to be a reliable visual cue.

It’s much easier to just wait until they start using skills. The kit skills are pretty distinct, even if the hobosacks aren’t.

That’s only valid if you have same sigils of both weapon sets like battle on a staff and on a scepter. And that’s also only valid if you swap weapons the moment you can which sounds a bit far too stretched.

The entire point I’ve been making in this thread is that the 9 second ICD of the sigils is less than the 10 second cooldown of a normal weapon swap. This gives Eles an advantage with on-swap sigils.

I’ve never made any claims as to the min-maxing potential of these cooldowns, and I will not because it’s all hypothetical and completely irrelevant to the topic of this thread.

9 <10. It’s really that simple. Seriously. Honestly. I swear.

Ah, so eles have infinite number of attunements. Do you realize you don’t usually swap weapons/attunements just to trigger a sigil because then you cannot go back to your previous attunement for the next 13 seconds? Think about the consequences of actions before giving theoretical examples without much of an afterthought.

When you swap from one attunement to another, all 4 attunements do not go on a 13-second cooldown. That was the implication in ArmageddonAsh’s post that I was replying to.

And when I run a Sigil of Battle on my Ele, I don’t swap attunements simply to trigger the sigil, nor does anyone else I know—I proc it every nine seconds simply by going through my normal rotations. It’s magical, really.

As far as I know, I’ve been stating facts. The length of cooldowns is a fact. And, unless I was lied to when I learned how to count, the absolute value of numbers is also a fact.

condition won’t work, s/d is one of the only specs on thief that can cleanse a massive amount of conditions…

as for damage, boon strip lowers theirs, not having boons on yourself also helps keep their damage and survivability down, though when u can, apply weakness, even though it will get stripped in a few seconds, it helps stop their dodging ability

S/d thieves don’t use lyssa runes anymore, so their condition removal relies entirely on infiltrators strike shadow step return and also shadow steps return. If you want to actually purge a lot of damaging conditions, you need to waste a lot in order to do it.

This then provides an opportunity to kill them or make them run for their life. Coupled with the fact that various conditions classes have CC that a s/d would also need to deal with while “purging”. You can see where I’m going with this.

Also, poison completely neuters Withdraw as a heal.

I don’t play Warrior, so I don’t have enough experience with the class to have a rational discussion about them.

Also, Warrior traits have nothing to do with attunement swapping.

I think you will find that Ele are bound by the same cool downs as every other class. So no we don’t proc them more often because they still have an internal cool down and the last time i checked that wasn’t removed for ele.

As I said before, the ICD on sigils is 9 seconds. The cooldown for a normal weapon swap is 10 seconds.

Is there something inherently complicated about this, or something that I’m not clarifying?

Ele also have to spend 6 trait points in Arcane to get attunement swap down to 10 seconds like everyone else. Even if we had 0 cool down on attunement swap, the fact that sigils have an ICD means it doesnt matter how often we could swap they would still only proc when they come off cool down.

Also. Lets not forget that Ele has 2 Sigil slots Vs 4 like everyone else (except Engineer)

To quote the Wikipedia page for attunements:

“Attunements activate instantly and can be activated mid-cast. When one is activated, the previous attunement recharges for 13 seconds, while other attunements which are ready to use will recharge for 1.625 seconds. "

1.625 < 9 < 10.

I think Thieves just have a gift for kittening people off by existing. I got called several colorful names in a hotjoin yesterday by someone that I saw/killed once during the entire match. After that, I made it a point to run into him more often.

On a related note, I recommend getting the cow finisher.

I think S/P has better damage output and control capability, but I’ve always found S/D to be more fun because it’s more fluid. I also think S/D gives me more flexibility to play around with my traits and utilities, but that’s probably personal bias because I’ve played it so long.

1. Because of the Thief’s high mobility and the ability to engage and disengage quickly, they make excellent roamers. Personally, most of my time is spent capping and decapping, if I’m not assisting in a team fight. I also have a lot of fun with generally being a nuisance to the other team. (Thieves excel at that.)

2. Stealth is a unique mechanic in GW2, and the fact that it can be used both offensively and defensively is what makes it such an important survival tool for many Thieves.

3. The right build and player in any class can perform respectably in 1v1 or 1vX, but in my opinion the best dueling class is Mesmer, and the best class for 1vX is either Guardian or Engineer.

You said that Eles can proc more swap sigils, i showed proof trough cooldowns that it doesnt work that way, there is no more discussion here.

In-combat, a cooldown on a normal weapon swap is 10 seconds.

The ICD on on-swap sigils is 9 seconds.

9 < 10.

But you’re quite right; there is no more discussion here. Unless, of course, you would care to state the facts that disprove my assertions above.

Running Acro is about avoiding damage through evasion, which works through 1. knowing tells and reacting to them quickly or 2. prediction.

In my opinion, Engineers are a soft-counter to evasion Thieves because they are more flexible than other classes, and therefore much harder to predict.

I tried logging in today and playing for the first time in a few days, and I am getting disconnected every 5—10 minutes. I know it isn’t my connection, since I have no lag or disconnection problems on TS. When I’m not being disconnected, my lag is so bad that I can’t play.

Some kind of announcement about or hotfix for this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I find it strange that some classes have access to a 25% passive speed increase, whilst others don’t.

Elementalist, Necromancer, Thief and Ranger have a 25% speed increase signet. Of those signets, one has a useful active (Thief).

Yea you got no idea there. The elementalist speed signet is significantly a LOT BETTER than the thief on the activation (blind versus blind and stunbreak and damage not even a comparison) so please try to at least get your facts straight before posting anything

Actually, I have both classes at 80, and the signets are similar enough not to warrant a mention. So please take your patronising attitude elsewhere, thanks.

Granted, the damage alone is not all that important. But the fact that one signet breaks stun and the other does not in a CC-heavy game is a very important difference.

Stun-locking runs unchecked, which puts classes with poor escapes at a huge disadvantage. Conditions are being nerfed left and right, while condition removal is arguably way too common.

I agree with you about stun-locking, but I actually find the opposite to be true for conditions in PvP. I’ll get condi-bombed, attempt to cleanse, and then get immediately condi-bombed again. Necromancers and Engineers can stack a plethora of conditions in a matter of seconds.

Personally, I would rather see conditions deal little to no damage, and be employed mainly for their additional effects—halving the effectiveness of healing or endurance regen, for example—so that unchecked conditions will still result in your death, but actual damage is done through other means.

Of course, this is just my opinion. Not to mention that employing this type of change would require a massive game overhaul, so I don’t expect it to ever happen. But it’s nice to dream.

Once again, thanks for the feedback!
We’ve been discussing elementalists quite a bit recently in PvP and one of the things that’s brought up constantly from feedback is the internal cooldown from Cleansing Water. This is something we feel is out-dated and we’ve been playing around with removing the ICD totally from PvP. We’ve got some concerns, but would love to hear some feedback on this.

In general, we’ve got quite a bit more stuff coming. As before, we can’t say what these things are just yet… But there’s a bit of stuff that will shake up the meta. We’re really looking forward to it!

There has been talk of new traits, weapons, and utilities, which would bring a little freshness into an otherwise stale meta. I’d be excited to see changes like this.

However, paying 25 skill points for every new utility or heal tends to drain the joy of seeing new additions. Not only does the cost seem totally arbitrary and ludicrous—only 5 points below the second-tier elite skills—it’s extremely unfriendly for new players/characters that don’t have a large pool of skill points to draw from.

1: We need to keep thread and post sizes more manageable. Should we put a limit on the word length of posts?
2: How are we going to chose topics moving forward, for example, by votes or by Anet choosing them etc?

1. In my opinion, putting a limit on the word length of posts would alienate some dedicated posters. I think requiring some kind of formatting for posts over X length might be better, like paragraphs or headers.

2. As others have said, I think a mix of both would be best. Voting-only would lead to unproductive topics, and Anet-only would lead to players feeling ignored. Perhaps Anet could provide a weekly theme like “economy week” or “PvP balance week,” and voters could choose their favorite subtopics therein.

personally i left S/D and now play S/P, and i find it way superior in coordinated teams ( altough i do solo q only lol), tough more easily countered and tough needing a lot more skill to be played.

S/P has a blind field, a daze, and Pistol Whip: a stun that comes with an almost 1.5 second evade that comes with cleaving burst damage. Not to mention the fact that S/P can run the Trickery meta build without having to sacrifice one of its core trait lines.

S/D has stealth access, Dancing Dagger (lol), and you can spend 5 initiative to evade for half a second and steal one boon.
