You lost all credibility with me at the outset. If you teamed to make matches faster, that means you teamed with lower tier players, tanking your rating and manipulating the matches.

That’s (allegedly) against the rules. Sorry… no credit due.

You were clearly engaged with StickerHappy and at the very least included him in your statement, “Wow. My mind is blown with how lacking your knowledge of mesmer is.”

How did you not claim a top Mesmer player lacked knowledge about the class again?

I stand by the rest of what I said. You consistently attack Mesmer. As a result, your credibility suffers. Your posts often contain hyperbole and incorrect information. Readers would be well advised to check your posts carefully.

Make EVERYONE solo queue in league matches. Team queue exists primarily to allow people to exploit the system at the moment.

Oh look, a “legendary” player teaming with a Sapphire to lower there effective rating. They won by a huge margin? Wonder how that happened?

Now try to be a little graceful about it. That kind of attitude is what drives people out of pvp.. and we can’t afford to lose people atm.

Match manipulation is cheating. Running a partial team and taking on lower division players is match manipulation.

I admit, I’m assuming that the team is taking on lower level players deliberately. It seems so prevalent at this time that I overstepped there.

This person consistently argues for nerfs to Mesmer. So his credibility with respect to the class is questionable as are many of the stats he quotes to “prove” his case.

Mesmer got an emergency nerf. There aren’t many complaining who aren’t known to attack the class .

Thief needs some defense very badly. I had a (very) small amount of success playing as a Venom Share build. I won’t touch Daredevil.

DH is kinda a one trick pony imo. I’ve been playing it to see why I got hammered by them. Now I get it, DH will be high on my priority target list.

Necro seems super strong, especially the minion builds.

Warrior can survive a DH burst almost intact. No huge issue there that I can see. Admittedly I don’t play Warrior much.

Druid.. I just don’t get.

Rev.. same.

Ele seems tough still, though I’m not seeing as many as before.

Running a partial team is exploitation and cheating. ANET clearly doesn’t care to enforce it’s own rules.. but that doesn’t make it not cheating.

I suggest that all players queue’ing up for leagues should have to queue solo. Not only would this eliminate this particular form of manipulation it would reduce some of the carrying that goes on.

I suspect more than a few players who believe they are awesome would be disappointed when the team was no longer there to carry them.

There’s an easy partial fix; All league players must queue solo. This would force people to stay closer to there true skill brackets. This would tend to concentrate upper echelon players a bit more.

The “diamond” players simply manipulate matches. ANET has decided to allow this to continue. Therefore they don’t need to fix it. Because the diamond players are at an artificially low spot in the matchmaking ( by teaming with lower brackets ) they won’t play against each other much.

I think most or all “diamond” level players are manipulating matches in this way which invalidates the rank to me.

Truly diamond level players are rarer that ANET thought. Most players are not at that level for whatever reasons.

From that, I’d draw the lesson that ANET should stop worshiping the pro players and pay attention to it’s vast majority player base.

Perhaps the upper echelon players should agree to a common time to be online. Then they could get matches in. WvW players do something similar.

Nice try at making a backstab nerf on Mesmer OK. The one and only way to fix matchmaking at this point would be to force everyone to queue solo.

I should think cheating is OK because otherwise those players would have to wait for matches? You sound like the people who say they shouldn’t have to pay taxes because they are rich.

Make all the excuses you want, cheating is not OK.

I agree, remove team queue. Make everyone in ranked queue solo. Lost game or not, they were manipulating matches which ANET has said is cheating and that they will punish.

I don’t honestly believe anet will punish it but that doesn’t stop it from being against the rules.

Oh boo hoo.. the people who love to shout “L2P” now have to wait for a match of players near there own skill level? tragic! Many of those players got to that level by match manipulation viz cheating. Let them wait.

It’s a pretty poor excuse to say “it’s not cheating because if I didn’t do it, I’d be inconvenienced” How far would that fly in any sport?

Build diversity is dead because players want only wins. They are willing to follow like lemmings anyone who promises easy rewards. It’s a deeply disturbing trend.

I get flamed if I’m not running the “meta” build. Which is to say if I’m not doing what the “pros” do, what the internet groupies say is optimal.

It’s as if people have created a new ethic in which taking advantage of the system is the ultimate virtue.

Taking one’s own path in such an environment is seen as anti social since it might not contribute to the group ( pug or guild ) gaining more.

ANET has encouraged this by pouring money into “pro leagues” and making shallower and shallower content with higher and higher rewards.

In D&D we called it a “monty hall” campaign. This will lead to a vicious spiral of needing to stoke the fire with ever more spectacular rewards.

At this point the solution would be to propagandize by having the “pros” play oddball builds.

Of course.. the real long term solution would be to make multiple builds for each class that work well. I’m not confident that ANET can accomplish that.

I agree DH traps are out of control and need a fix. It shouldn’t be possible to kill me instantly on stepping unto a point.

Don’t try to trump up an argument with unattainable 100% alacrity uptime and then go back on it. You didn’t give theoretical maximums you used hyperbole to support an untenable argument.

I don’t agree. Both objectivism and anarchism place there “faith” in the individual. They also expect the individual to be self guided as opposed to a herd animal.

As a sidelight, I mentioned that Rand’s view of reality is twisted in the extreme. No wonder she is so popular at places like Pepperdine. Nevertheless, I find some of it valuable.

Conan would be instantly dps’d into the ground by a herd of shop keepers following a commander and pounding 1 in the current GW2 state. Not my notion of epic storytelling.

My win ratio, playing my long favorite main is roughly 50% in leagues and I solo queue the vast majority of the time.

Teaming with a lower MMR player for convenience or to pad matches is match manipulation.

As such it is cheating. Those who cheat and manipulate have no business being in the higher echelons to begin with. They are carried by a system that allows exploitation.

Corruption and manipulation of the system was the systemic problem that made Communism unworkable. Some were always more equal than others.

A red hero of the people is still an objectivist hero.. albiet a rather tragic one.

I recommend “We the Living” also by Ayn Rand. It’s a good exposition of the kind of manipulation and corruption that inevitably follow “organized” activities and groups. It’s set in Post Tzsarist Russia.

@Defiling I’m quite familiar with The Art of War and the chapter on Energy that you refer to and misrepresent. I’m also mildly familiar with The Book of Five Rings, a more Zen oriented book along similar lines. The Art of War could be called Taoist.

My issue is that Conan, to whom you refer, would never get a chance to be a hero.. he’d be run over by a thundering horde of shop keepers following the snake god.

As to the “whole being a hero thing,” well that’s kinda what this game is allegedly about.

If you’re cheating and manipulating to get ahead, you shouldn’t be a diamond level player to begin with.

Match manipulation is cheating and ANET claims that it will punish it. Personally, I doubt they’ll take action… but that doesn’t make it not cheating.

Here are three books/movies that ANET might gain insight from;

The Fountainhead, by Ayn Rand. Ms. Rand has a view of reality that is in many ways twisted beyond recognition. This book would give some insight into what a “hero” is though and why I refuse to be another zerg zombie.

The Third Wave, a book and soon to be an indie movie. A high school teacher sets up a psychological experiment. He creates a soft neofascist situation with an emphasis on group mind and cooperation. It rapidly spiraled out of control. It created outstanding performance in a few students and it also caused ostracism of those considered “lesser” violence and quite a bit of trauma.

The Stanford Prison Experiment. This is another true story. Allegedly “normal” college students were placed in a simulated prison. Some were guards others prisoners. Given power over there fellow students, the “guards” rapidly became as abusive as anyone at abu graihb. People in a position of power to abuse, do abuse.

Because of the way the game has been set up to encourage group play, we are seeing the “tyrrany of the majority” which is precisely why the United States is not a true democracy and isn’t intended to be.

A hero is one who rises to a challenge, overcomes obstacles … finds that extra strength within. In GW2 at the moment, a “hero” is one who belongs to the right guild and follows placidly along behind a commander.

You’re dead wrong. It’s cheating, it’s been stated that it’s cheating and you just admitted to cheating.

The fact that it’s an Amber player makes the combination artificially low MMR. Thus, the diamond player is getting an easy match as well as cutting the queue line.

It’s cheating, plain and simple.

Getting a low ranking player to team, so your effective MMR is lower is CHEATING pleb.

Anet will go for a Mesmer nuke nerf first. Then prob buff DH and Scrapper.

This “organized play” thing is destroying a lot of fun in the game. Here’s a Diamond ( I think ) level player openly asking for an Amber to join them as a duo.

Yes, ANET, mmr tanking is happening.. it’s happening constantly.

Another long ugly night in PvP. This is why the population is so low. It takes a masochist like me to keep coming back.

The amount of “organized” play in the game is wiping out a lot of the fun.

There needs to be a place for players who want to play on their own merits.

I really try to avoid getting this particular debuff as I find it very embarrassing.

I have to admit, matches have been better for me lately. I’m sure you ‘could’ make a bunch of f2p accounts and play in Amber for cheap wins. It kinda really wouldn’t be very productive though.

I know my class mechanics. I didn’t happen to know your little twist. You talked about shattering (mind wrack ) followed by Continuum Shift and f4 to cover the casting of WoP.

I said that Continuum Shift doesn’t recharge shatters, which is correct. I misunderstood that you were casting f4 during CS.

Still, that’s hardly a “free” distortion since it involves the use of a 90 second CD.

You claimed that the 90 second cd was a weak argument based on fictional numbers that might happen with 100% alacrity uptime and skills used whenever they came off CD. I pointed out that such a scenario is patently ridiculous in a real match.

Beside which, 100% alacrity uptime isn’t attainable.

As to straw man arguments; A straw man argument involves creating a fictional argument that can easily be defeated with the intention of using that to bolster an argument. by defeating the false premise.

100% Alacrity uptime? You’re dreaming. Nobody runs a maxed alacrity build. You are also assuming that WoP and other skills are cast each time they come off CD. That’s simply not going to happen in a real match.

Your numbers are based on the fiction of a Mesmer standing on a point, continually engaged and with nothing else to do using WoP every time it comes off of CD.

Be real please. The OP found it annoying because they lost. They got outplayed and they lost. Nerf the tears please.

I just took my Chronomancer into game and tried it. I formally admit that in one aspect I was wrong;

If I cast Continuum split and then f4 distortion, f4 is is in fact restored at the end of the continuum shift.

What I said was correct, Continuum Shift doesn’t recharge shatters. you can hower squeeze in a shatter during the CS.

So yes, I could use up Continuum Split, followed by distortion and this would cover my cast of well of precognition and leave me with f4 intact.

HOWEVER: WoP itself has a 3/4 second cast time. So unless I timed it perfectly CS would end before I could get WoP off. So, I’d lose the reuse of WoP if my button presses weren’t perfect.

I’d also point out that Continuum Split is on a 90 Second CD. In all probability you’re going to to use this skill 1-2 times in a match. So my use of f4 isn’t “free” by any stretch.

The OP’s team still got outplayed. A specialized series of moves like that , that is hard to pull off and requires major resources isn’t OP and is comparable to many other attack rotations used by other classes. Reaper for example can down me very quickly if I’m not cautious. Scrapper, thief….

No, I don’t get get clones back after continuum shift. nor does it recharge my shatters. That’s pure fantasy on your part.

If I have my f4 distortion shatter before continuum split I’ll still have it after. If I’ve used it, it will still be on CD. You’re dead wrong on that and it makes some of the rest of what you said meaningless.

Yes, I count as a clone. Using a shatter with only myself is minimally effective and a pure desperation move. I’d also point out that Mesmers have done that for years, it’s old news.

No distortion does not “come back” after continuum shift. CS doesn’t recharge shatters. That’s simply untrue. You are either being deliberately deceptive or don’t understand the skill

As to hitting continuum shift mid cast and distorting after… well I haven’t tried it. I’d be using up two major CDs just to use a slot skill twice. Dumb move really. Beside which, why would I distort while WoP was active? That makes no sense at all.

At this point I think you’re arguing for the sake of arguing. Can I use WoP twice in a row and distortion once using Continuum Shift? Yes. Is it a sound strategy to use up a slot skill, all my clones and two major cd’s to pull a trick like that? No, not 95% of the time.

No I can’t “just pop distortion” or rather I’d be stupid to do so. That would expend all my clones. Continuum Shift would then be too short to be useful.

Yes I get some back for shattering if I am so traited. So, assuming I’m traited that way, I can use two skills in succession at reduced power for the second skill… that still doesn’t cover your fantasy. In addition it leaves me with very little attack or defense power.

That’s part of the balance. Yes I can chain skills, but if I want them to have useful duration and effect, I need to generate clones in between. I have to pace my CDs like everyone else.

I’d also note that my heal is often dependent on how many clones I have out. So popping multiple skills means that I am giving up most of my healing.

The skill is comparable in power to other skills. It also has a long cast and prevents taking points. The fact that the OP’s team failed to pressure the chrono was there fault. ANET has a hair trigger and a heavy hand nerfing Mesmer. Not unlike the way thieves have suffered because of the crying over stealth.

Understand the skill, realize the cast can be interrupted easily and the invulnerability lasts a short time. In short, learn to play.

I remember the days before the healing nerf, I could shatter repeatedly on a warrior and they’d stand there and laugh at me. Then they’d one – shot me with cc+100 blades.

Warrior has never been my class, I consider it hard to play and weird… but until quite recently Warrior was generally close to the top of the heap.

At the moment in pvp, they seem a bit lost. Though Ross has claimed that the rifle is now quite fun to play.

It’s the same in either scenario. That’s pure sophistry. Either way, the chrono was obviously not under much pressure. The OP’s team got outplayed and that’s not a reason to cry for a nerf. Particularly right after a heavy nerf to the same skill.

No, a higher score means you contributed in specific ways, namely standing static on points for example.

You get no points for defending off point or running interference while someone else gets the Tranquility commune.

Personal score is a measure of how much you did specific things, wether or not those things actually contributed much to your team’s victory.

If a chronomancer has Continuum split up, multiple clones to spend on it and WoP free… then you failed to play well against them.

If a chronomancer gets all the way to your lord without basically spending much power at all.. then you failed. Learn to Play.

You’re ticked off that at the very end of the game, a chrono used there defenses to help finish the lord. They wouldn’t have been able to do so unless you had let them get there without much effort.

Sorry, you were outplayed. Learn to Play.

Please stop. Chronomancer just took a big hit. ANET broke it’s own rules especially to do an emergency hotfix to heavily nerf chrono bunker..

At this point you really just need to learn to play. ANET doesn’t need to nerf me (again) because of your lack of skill.

I don’t honestly think ANET is looking at the stats much. They play among themselves and make determinations based on which dev got there feelings hurt on the internal server.

They don’t seem to look at the main stats at all.

I expect Mesmer to be crippled blatantly and DragonHunter buffed.
