I’m playing chronoshatter. Yes, I do feel I have the right to complain. That’s one of the purposes of this forum. I don’t expect ANET to listen, but that’s another story.

My evening/morning continues. 10% win rate. 4 heavy stops in 10 games. Matchmaking is broken.

HoT Mesmer is not what it was claimed to be and is about to be out of the meta. Bad Game, ANET.

Truthfully, I don’t care about the neocon/objectivist trolls. The fact of the matter is that the matchmaking is alleged to be designed to create fair matches. If the matches were fair, the win records would reflect that.

I can’t conjure much respect for the “l2p” crowd. In my view, they fall into one of two categories; reactionaries who call “whining” on everything without any real thought or knowledge and those who play OP classes and want to stay that way.

In any case, matchmaking is not working. Mesmer didn’t need a huge nerf and I think ANET knew it. I resolve to start writing reviews.. and contacting the esports sponsors to ask why anet keeps making such bizzare balance decisions.

Keep laughing. ANET sold HoT Mesmer based on Alacrity and the ability to compete.

Then they destroyed alacrity,well of precog and ninja nerfed by destroying sigil of energy. (The nerf to sigil of energy reduces both dps and healing for Mesmer as well as defenses like blind. )

Cleary, Mesmer is not being allowed to compete. Hence, HoT is not what is claimed. My night continues….

-edit- that’s 7 straight losses, including 3 or so stomps. Matchmaking isn’t working.

I may just do that and spend it on a B&S premium.

Your argument is false because based on a false premise. I have no desire to be OP. What I’m saying is that by; chopping alacrity by 50%, , destroying Well of Precognition and nerfing Sigil of Energy to uselessness, ANET has effectively broken Mesmer’s ability to compete.

That is a situation in which I was sold a product that is not what was claimed (heart of thorns , lc deliberate ). I want my money back.

NO Sigil of energy was nerfed for the express purpose of slowing down Mesmer clone production and therefore DPS/Healing.

One more Ninja Nerf/Cheapshot at Mesmer.

Mesmer really needs a hard nerf? I’m playing Chronoshatter and not successful 1v1 vs anything. Rangers in particular machine gun me down with a single button [Rapid Fire].

ANET your balance decisions are dead wrong. Further they appear to be intended to kill Mesmer as a class.

The matchmaking is even poorer than the usual standard… though I have had 30+ loss streaks.

B&S is looking better than ever. Sure it’s cheesy in some ways, but so far I’m not seeing outlandish imbalance or a heavily disfavored class.

You missed the point(s). For the record, I pre-purchased HoT for both accounts. I didn’t pay to be able to play an OP spec. Again for the record, I play chronoshatter and not chronobunker.

Mesmer has been in the gutter and low tier ranges for much of the past 3 years. I paid for a class that would be able to keep up in the current meta.

Therein is the problem. Is Chronobunker too strong? Probably. I think that’s debatable in comparison to Reaper and DH. Am I willing to be on par with other classes? Yes absolutely.

Unfortunately, ANET chopped Mesmer so hard it’s pretty much going to be out of the game. Even the commentators on “On Point” said as much. The Pro Players ( whose value to the game I consider very dubious at best ) gloated that Mesmer would be gone.

That is my issue. I paid to be able to use elite specializations. I did so hoping that I’d finally be able to compete as a Mesmer.

There is every evidence that ANET is deliberately kicking Mesmer out competitive play So, ANET is not delivering the product / service I paid for. That’s not right, however you slice it.

If I were The Queen at ANET;

I’d minimize the Pro PVP. It’s a non productive burden at this point, The money would be much better spent hiring several devs to help shore up critical areas.

My media policy would be to make no statement or promise that had not already been implemented. ANET’s credibility gap would be a priority concern for me.

The devs would need to be looked at very carefully to determine if personal agendas are overriding the team agenda of improving the game.

At least my lead devs would interact on forum, every business day. I’m aware that this would be non productive or even counter productive sometimes on a micro scale. The benefit would be that it would demonstrate to the players that the company was listening. More importantly, it would demonstrate that the company cared.

I’d re – establish GW1 as a design model. GW1 is still going strong and self sustaining. Clearly it’s getting a lot right.

GW2 has so much potential, if it can be saved from itself.

Silly idea. The queue is already long. Now add to that the people doing whatever they are doing in the pve world and ignoring or not seeing the queue pop.

The reason we’re cooped in HOTM is to keep people from wandering off and forgetting about the queue. I imagine they save some communications code and/or lag by not having people spread kitten-to-breakfast.

In this one instance I think ANET has the right idea. Now if we could just get them to approach balance in a logical and consistent manner…

My money is on ANET not having anything else to reveal. They already accomplished what they wanted to; maim mesmer.. and ele and push thief and rev forward. After all, Rytlock Brimstone is the poster boy for HoT.

My first main was a thief and I still play it regularly.

UHM Mesmer got two emergency nerfs to shield, when no one else did. ANET went out of it’s way to lame mesmer .. then they killed alacrity the main selling point of chronomancer by 50%. In the process extending every mesmer cooldown by close to 50%.

That is a pure assassination, not a balance. Again, since anet sold HoT to me based on the mesmer elite, then destroyed the mesmer elite.. I feel I’m owed a refund.

The specializations ARE the end game content. Be real, most players can’t get into high level fractals or raids. I can’t get into raids in full ascended armor and trinkets with mixed ascended and exotic weapons. That is not considered good enough despite my legendary torch.

As to being extremely OP. I think the issue was that Mesmer has been trash tier for years and people were upset when the pecking order changed.

The reason for having us queue in hotm was that people would be less distracted / more likely to answer the call for a match.

Dueling cages would break that.

In addition, anet will never do it because that would reduce the value of guild halls and thus devalue grinding in HoT.

They aren’t nerfing ele and Mesmer to match. They are nerfing both right out of the meta. It is very clear from today’s “On Point” stream that;

1. The pro players are being appeased. “Sunfish” openly expressed that he wanted mesmer gone and “rom” said the same thing with a little more circumspection.

2. Mesmer and quite probably Ele are no longer expected to be played competitively.

3. ANET sold Hot based on the new classes, then proceeded to trash mesmer. I want my HoT money back.

I return to you what has been said to me over the past three years that Mesmer has been UP. “Learn to play.”

I paid in (buying HoT for two accounts ) to have a competitive Mesmer.

ANET just arbitrarily ended that. Apparently, they did it at the behest of the Pro players. On the stream today, both “sunfish” and “rom” complained about Mesmer. Sunfish even went so far as to say he was glad mesmer was gone.

I feel anet disrespected me by selling me HoT then arbitrarily gimping my class into the ground. To add insult to injury it was done to please pro players.

There is no skill whatever in sneaking behind someone and hammering the buttons with your face to do your burst combo. This is precisely what we’re going to see. I predict that Rangers will come out of this very well… I wish them the nerf hammer 100 times over.

So now we’re back to the nuke meta which means no progress made in 3 years. GG.

No they didn’t actually come out and say “kitten mesmers.” They meant it though.

I found it very interesting to here “Sunfish” and “rom” of Spookie and Orange Logo respectively kitten about Mesmers. Sunfish went so far as to say he was glad to see us gone.

That tells me that ANET bowed to the pro teams. It also tells me that all that noise about not balancing around pro teams was untrue.

I bought HoT to have a competitive Mesmer.. ANET took my money, then slammned Mesmer right out of contention. I’m feeling like I got pretty ripped off.

Dead wrong on Mesmer. Support is being stripped bare as is defense. Mesmer will be a +1 sniper at best, thief food at worst.

I have an idea.. I think I’ll write to the sponsors and partners and ask THEM why the balance team keeps making such bizzare decisions.

Yes, we know we sold the Chronomancer based on Alacrity. We changed our minds after we got your money though and we’re now giving alacrity to Engie and thief.

The alacrity changes also greatly increase Mesmer cooldowns on everything. Well of Precognition is being made worthless.

It’s not the nerf itself (50% which is bloody ridiculous.. when did anet hit anyone other than mesmer that hard? ) but the ripple effect that it will have with ALL Mesmer skills

I’m not playing the meta build because ANET is about to gut the meta build and make it completely non playable. I’m so bloody sick of people crying that Mesmer is OP and faceroll.. They simply haven’t played Mesmer and anet listens to the qq.

I doubt anet even looks at feedback or cares. This season was made a joke by blatant exploitation which anet set it up to allow.

Next season will be wrecked by OP thieves and Mesmers are practically out of the game.

I didn’t say that thief got Mesmer nerfed and I’m not sure how you interpreted that. Mesmer got nerfed ( again ) because ANET consistently nerfs Mesmer if it even comes up to average.

What I did say was that with the heavy damage buff to thief and unblockable attacks. My half-sisters and brothers ( thief and Mesmer are alike, in truth ) may find themselves next on the hit list.

What can I say? You’re at least partially right. ANET doesn’t care though.

Please stop trolling the Mesmer forum.

My first main was Thief. I migrated to Mesmer and love the class. Yep, Thief getting some love is a good thing. The problem is that they hamstrung Mesmer in the process.

The long term result is likely to be that the “nerf x” cry will hit thief next. I wish ANET had better sense and didn’t make such radical moves.

The agenda is to kick Mesmer out of the meta. That’s what the actions say.

I think we misunderstand the goals of ANET. They seem to very much want casters second class and to be yearning for the old berserker meta that they claimed they wanted to change.

The changes I’m seeing remind me of the arcades of the 80’s where we could win if we pounded the buttons fast enough. All muscle memory and reaction speed rather than thought.

From where I sit, it seems as if ANET wants to recreate StreetFighter on an MMO scale.

So instead, ANET returns us to the all – berserker-all-the -time days. If kicking casuals out of pvp is the goal, this is a step in the right direction.

This will not promote skilled play, because the style will be to crush the keyboard super fast. The first player to land the burst combo wins. That’s both stupid and ugly in my opinion and it is certainly not skilled gameplay.

No just hurt that the devs once again chose to slap Mesmer into the gutter. A Reaper was already a tough fight. Now, I’m not even going to be able to engage without support.

If I wanted to play that way, I’d buy Xbox and play streetfighter or some similar button pound game. No thanks. I’d much rather see the devs focus on making the game actually work well.

The dev’s vision of the game seems to consist of courtyard, with no caster classes played and no defensive ability. Just pound buttons and lots of cool “Finish him!” type death effects.

I am 100% confident that if it benefits Mesmer in any way it will be nerfed or removed. I have 0% confidence in the good intentions of the devs.. so do what you will ANET. You will anyway despite the feedback or the health of the game.

How about a 50% reduction in effectiveness like Alacrity? Fair is Fair right? Oh wait.. Necro isn’t on the devs’ hate list at the moment.

“slight nerf?” ANET is essentially destroying the main selling point of the HoT Chronomancer. I don’t see that as “slight” I see it as a directed deliberate assault on Mesmer and circumstancial evidence that some or all of the devs have a personal problem with the class.

Thank The Six! I had begun to believe that ANET deliberately built an exploit track into the tournament. This suggests that I was wrong. Hope it works out that way.

ANET is kittening the kittens of the players who complained they needed a faster game. They are also probably trying to boost revenant to premier class.

My Tai Chi instructor told me long ago; Doing something fast is a common way to cover a lack of skill.

I couldn’t agree more and the incoming meta will not be skill based. It will be burst based with fights won by the player that gets there burst combo off first.

I have been criticized and even reviled on this forum and others for being too loud. I freely admit that I am strident and even shrill at times advocating for Mesmer and a while back, Thief.

Allow me to explain why;

ANET does not understand quid pro quo.

It takes but doesn’t give. This is particularly true in the case of Mesmer and Thief. The latest “balance” patch makes that abundantly clear.

Alacrity was the major selling point of the HoT Mesmer and the reason I bought HoT for both of my accounts ( deluxe version, I’m ashamed to say. ) ANET nerfed it into the ground. They didn’t take into account that it removes much of Mesmer’s place in teams. It also reduces our personal DPS considerably and makes several of our cooldowns too long.

I would be amazed to learn that plans are not already being made to hand this “unique” skill to other classes. Alleged Mesmer perks such as; Confusion, Torment, Chaos Armor and Moa have all been handed out like gold stars to other classes.

Alacrity is the only unique skill (other than CS which would be pretty tough to justify giving away ) left to Mesmer. ANET will almost certainly give it to other classes further devaluing Mesmer.

ANET does not update with any frequency. So, negative impacts last weeks, months or even years.

I fully expect Mesmer to be trash tier for 6-12 months while ANET dithers and makes promises that are never fulfilled. So, the only reasonable strategy is to be pre-emptive.

ANET does not understand moderation

The track record bears witness. ANET makes slow and sporadic radical changes. This is one of the least effective management strategies. It makes me wonder if ANET actually wants to succeed.

Asking for small iterative adjustments is manifestly a lost cause.

ANET listens to volume, not reason.
