Searching faster would entail going further in pip ranges to find matches. That would magnify the already extreme win/loss streaks.
This is the downside of setting up the system the way season 2 has been handled. If what I’m seeing is an indication, you should expect queue times to get longer.
I’m still being randomly immobilized when rangers use pet skills. Needing to do a sit anim to move is near certain death in a team fight.
I honestly don’t think anet cares… but on the off chance someone might notice, I’m bringing this up again.
I made this suggestion shortly after HoT release. Maybe something like the cattlepult in old Ascalon or a Quaggan aviator balloon.
Yes and I have no desire to play on a team at this point. Nor do many other people. Why does anet refuse to understand this?
You are being deeply offensive MadVisions. In essence, you’re making the claim that it’s OK for the majority to suffer because “good” players have a right to enjoy the game the way they want.
Well as I once told the class commodore of my local club’s US 1 meter class; That’s fine, but if you lord it over everyone too much.. there won’t be anyone left to lord over. It’s lonely being elite and alone as our class champion learned.
No, it really isn’t OK for an elite to have fun and low queue times by trampling the majority, Fortunately, this is a game world and people have the option to simply go elsewhere.
Please don’t ban me, I’m not trolling I’m being real.
With all respect and sincerity, are you trying to destroy PvP, ANET?
Here’s a DH that I have played with and against a number of times. I know them to be a good player. They are noting there 99th straight loss.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
I love this idea. Yes, please.
-edit- /me bow
While I am honored by the offer for a duel and accept, let’s do it when both are fresh and sober.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
As a note to my many detractors;
I just came from a match in which I 1v1’d and killed a revenant. The other player was wearing a “Primordial Legend” tag, I started at considerably less than 100% while he was fresh. the match lasted seconds and he lost.
Those who dismiss me as simply a bad player have some crow to eat.
I’d rather wait. Yes I know anet removed solo queue at least in part as a bandaid to low population. Still, what good does it do me to get a fast match and be hammered 640 – 40. This happened to me last night on Foefire.
Fine, I’ll wait for a good match. That would be far less burden than random matches that I start with very little to no chance.
My question, Mr Lesh, would be; “Why did anet set up a system designed to give the majority of players long losing streaks and uneven matches?”
At the moment, I finally managed to get two pips into Emerald, ( again,) but I’m still stuck with ambers who have no clue. Therefore I may well get caught in this hole for days or weeks until those ambers become emeralds.. then I’ll still be stuck there.
20+ loss streaks are not fun. This isn’t an l2p issue. Many players would like to pretend it is. The contents of the forum say otherwise.
If it is anet’s goal to attract players to pvp, I’d say that having them hammered for days on end with repeated losses isn’t the best approach.
As a second question; Why is solo queue not available?
So I’m to understand that it’s really ok that I’m being trampled. I should just accept it,since it will please the higher tier players. Somehow, I’m whining because it doesn’t please me to be at emerald 1 and getting amber players who have no clue and losing time and again.
As sir, being the top tier player that he is, is certainly aware; Arena Net more or less customized the most recent patch to the requests of that erudite and rarified circle of amazing players to which he belongs.
It seems therefore that when sir refers to “some players” he may mean himself and his peers.
This insignificant player requests that sir, in his infinite grace and wisdom, answer the queries put forth by Teutos.
What about being fair to the players ( like myself ) who are being trampled by the “max tier people?”
We are also significant to the game, I hope.
Thank you, sir, for your kind assessment and encouragement.
This insignificant player was hit more than 10 times in a matter of minutes for posts in which she addressed your august person. She can only surmise that she angered sir in some manner and must carefully avoid doing so.
Naturally, she is now better aquainted with her place and abjures her previous presumption of having a right to address sir as she would another player.
Should sir deign to impart his wisdom, this insignificant player would be honored to have her questions answered.
This insignificant player received some 10+ infractions for daring to address Sir in a manner like that she would use for others.
She is therefore cautious that she should not offend when in the presence of players of such tremendous importance as sir.
This insignificant player hopes that sir will understand and be merciful in this regard.
Please accept my thanks for replying to this insignificant player.
Nevertheless, you seem to have withheld your sage wisdom and vast experience with respect to the questions this player asked you, sir.
Chaith, first let me say that I have enduring respect for your expertise, your helpfulness, your fair minded and practical posts. I cannot think of a single person who writes with such eloquence and brevity. In fact, all engineers should emulate you since you are clearly far and away the best in the world, despite your failure in the most recent tournament.
However, may I respectfully submit to your august attention two points which you can no doubt answer with alacrity and set my mind at ease, being the amazing player that you are.
First, if it is true that anet in it’s infinite wisdom and grace set up the ladder to set high skilled teams against low.. then by logic, low skilled players are deliberately sacrificed for the convenience of high skilled.
Perhaps you can tell this insignificant player why that’s fair?
Second, solo queue would address this problem in two ways; It would prevent low skilled groups meeting premade high skilled groups. It would also allow the best and the brightest among us, such as yourself to advance without being inconvenienced by the likes of me.
Given your naturally superior knowledge and wisdom in this regard, I wonder what your thoughts are, sir?
If it is true that high skilled teams are being set deliberately against low skilled; Then arena net has consciously created a situation which will result in a majority of players having long losing streaks.
That being the case, the tips won’t help much. The deck is stacked going in.
While I’m certain that the esl players enjoy the situation… I don’t. How is it fair to set up the game so I have heavy losses by design?
First, my point is that the set up is designed to result in heavy losses.
Second, those “experienced players” have moved out of amber and emerald by grouping. In my view, grouping and stacking professions is not an indication of skill. It’s farming and exploitation.
Third, I’m currently Emerald, entirely by solo queue’ing and I don’t appreciate your assessment.
You and others keep talking about skill. Well, if you were truly interested in skill; you’d advocate SOLO QUEUE since the results would then reflect your skill and not a team’s ability to carry you.
Solo queue, (allowing no groups,) would put the emphasis back on individual skill. It would also reduce the amount of stacking of professions.
Yes, it would result in longer game queues. Honestly, I’d rather wait an hour than be put in the kind of match I had overnight in which my team lost ( quite literally ) by almost 600 points. This score was because our lord died in Foefire.
If that is so; then the game seems to be essentially sacrificing me for the pleasure of the pro players.
That’s the reality of it. If it’s true that I’m deliberately set against high skilled teams. Then anet wants me ( and the majority of players ) to lose consistently so that the esl types can have a good time.
How is that fair again?
Sure, I understand 20+ loss streaks are because I need to learn to play. Obviously arena net is providing fair and balanced matches with classes that have equivalent strength.
Our professional and fair minded devs have a long and distinguished record of making rapid iterative changes and carefully smoothing out any bumps so that all can have a good time.
Oh and Mesmer is cancer, faceroll, broken and OP. As proof I offer a partial record of my night in PvP.
IT’S TIME TO BRING BACK SOLO QUEUE ANET. THE LEVEL OF EXPLOITATION AND FARMING IS EVEN HIGHER THAN LAST SEASON.
I agree 100%. Solo queue would save a lot of misery and complaints. At the moment, solos like myself are just victims, not even really players.
It sounds to me like you are promoting playing on a team. Yet you acknowledge the basic problem with teams. They are carrying players by victimizing the solos like myself.
If you were truly interested in objective skill, you should advocate solo queue. That would allow you to place exactly where your personal skill put you. Not where your team carried you.
On Mesmer I don’t have a reasonable chance. I’m just feeding them kills. It has gotten to the point that I can’t justify to myself even engaging. Why should I provide an easy kill dummy to a chillmancer or trap monger? How is that sport?
I don’t understand why anet refuses to return solo queue. This situation won’t encourage grouping anet, it will discourage pvp playing in general.
Many players are having this issue. The design is such that it is forcing people to team to have any chance at all. The first day, I had a lose streak of 30+.
It seems clear that anet wants only teams. Truthfully that’s the only path to success at the moment.
Having said that, I’ll keep solo’ing. I was disgusted by “smurfing” in the last season and by team farming this season. I wish anet would bring back solo queue, it seems sadistic not to.
A chill bomb is near certain death for me on Mesmer. That’s true even if I was 100%.
@Celeras.4980
You’re missing a couple of fundamental points:
1.) Your argument presupposes a level playing field. Do you maintain that the current status of classes and pre made vs solo is a fair playing field?
2.) On a deeper level, when the community prospers the members of the community prosper. By maintaining such a socially conservative stance, you would likely drive away new players and lose some of the current ones. It’s no fun to be elitist when only the elite are left.
City of Heroes died with a whimper. I maintain it was partly because the newer players were driven out.
Star Trek online pvp is now almost non existant. It got so elitist ( and pay to win ) that only a very few still bother.
GW2 looks to be heading the same way to me. 10+ loss streaks have been my days and nights so far in this tournament. I’m masochistic enough to keep trying but I don’t think many are.
The Pro League players should remember that they are more or less entertainers. They are paid to provide a show to encourage people to play GW2 in general and pvp in particular.
The most recent changes pleased the top 1% of players… can pvp really continue and be healthy on that 1%?
The nerf to “smurfing” has had very little effect. I have played 9 games today, ( on Mesmer.) Of those, 3 were wins. All of the wins were not against organized groups.
What’s really telling is the margin of victory/defeat. In one game, my side lost by an astonishing 549 points. The average difference was 288.44 points.
Many players would be willing to agree that a loss by 288+ points is a stomp. 9 stomps in a row is, forgive me for using the buzz word, cancer.
Now, I am certain that anet’s fine pvp team is doing it’s utmost to provide fair and fun matches. They would never consider deliberately setting up a situation to make pvp fail. Certainly there ethics place them beyond such situations. After all, this is the team that has brought us balanced classes and careful , iterative and frequent updates for years now.
Nevertheless, however unintended and unpredictable this result… It seems clear that our deeply professional and even handed devs will need to find a better solutions. That is; should they wish to have a successful season, which I am sure in my heart of hearts they do.
Now, although I cannot argue that there must have been valid reasons for removing solo queue, ( however arbitrary this decision may have seemed to many players, ) The current situation encourages exploitation and “farming.” Of course, my fellow GW2 players would never stoop to such tactics, that would be beneath them. I’m sure you all agree.
game record attached
I’m running PU condi.. It was meta months or a year back. I can still surprise people. Sadly, it works better for me than the nuked chronomancer.
I’m playing PU condimancer and not doing too bad. To be a Mesmer is to be underpowered. It has been so from the beginning and anet wills that it remain so.
Anet has a long history of being very open and explaining to it’s customers it’s rationale. That’s how we know that the changes aren’t made randomly. There has also been consistent and fair minded game balancing at all times. This is reflected in the transparent and complete patch notes.
I can hardly comment strongly enough on the quality of anet’s interaction with the community.
30+ losses in a row late last night/this morning.
I note that your post is a near copy of another post on the forum. Let me correct your simile;
What you attempted to say is that events like a marathon are divided. The fastest runners are released first. This prevents collisions and injuries in the early part of the race.
Vargamoth made reference to the same idea by suggesting that players avoid pvp to allow the stronger players to move out of amber.
I find the suggestion deeply elitist.
Please explain why I should not be able to play, for the convenience of more skilled players? Also, please explain why I should not be able to get a level playing field for the first several days of the season?
No this isn’t an l2p issue. The same story is coming up repeatedly. I lost 30 in a row last night/this morning. At least one other poster cited a record of 1 for 29. Multiple other players overnight told me they had 20+ losses.
So, by your own admission, you are advocating a good portion of the pvp population not playing.
Please explain why that is not elitist? My win rate was a bit above 50% prior to the season and I just experienced a 30+ match loss streak.
Do you believe I should not be permitted to play?
Revenant already pretty much replaces thief. A ranged condi weapon would make rev even more OP than it is now.
My night/morning streak extended more than 30 losses. Similar stories are flooding the forums.

Am I to understand that you recommend that players do not play PvP? Of course, it makes sense that all other players should stand aside for the ESL pro players and those of similar skill levels.
After all, it stands to reason that those without very high skill levels don’t deserve to be able to queue and enjoy the game. Does it not?
It is certain that, as always, anet is working hard to ensure fair matches. Doubtless there is some reason for mixing players of all levels together.
I have no doubt personally that anet believed that it would create a situation of level playing fields and fun matches for all.
Having lost more than 30 straight matches, ( gaining an entire pvp level in the process, ) I finally defaulted out of the lowest amber rank with two wins and two comeback bonus pips.
I can tell you that receiving those extra pips more than compensated for the many games in which I saw 3-4 teammates head home at the opening of the match and similar displays of skill.
Hopefully such displays of mastery will continue as I advance.
@starbreaker.6507
As am I, nothing can shake my confidence that anet reads each and every post with care. In all likelihood, anet developers are even now poring over the results of the initial matches, eager to ensure that every player and every class has an adequate chance.
I’m confident that the ESL pro players will use there influence to make sure all classes can play on an equal footing.
This evening I’ve managed to complete an entire pvp level on my alt account without a single win. That’s more than 30 straight losses.
It is patently obvious that matches are being setup that are well adapted to fun and exciting play, since they provide an extremely level playing field.
Having now lost 23 straight matches, my attitude is exemplary. The incomparable gameplay of my teammates and the amazing power of the various classes to resist or cure conditions has made for an evening that would be unforgettable were it not so common in my experience.
Nevertheless, I am confident that arena net will perceive the various minor and virtually inconsequential issues and fix them with alacrity.
After all, arena net has always been responsive, iterative and very quick to remove any factors that might lead to a game that was biased to any particular class.
Given anet’s long and distinguished history of superior game design, balance and implementation, there’s no question in my mind that this will occur. Witness the lack of class bugs and the release of HoT. Both of which showcase anet’s skills nicely.
@Hanza.6872
I agree wholeheartedly. It is infinitely clear that I am not a good enough Mesmer to carry a team. Probably, there are few if any players who are, given the current state of Mesmer.
Your call to “stop crying” is inspirational. I know that my heart swelled with renewed courage and resolve, reading those golden words. The originality and brevity are absolutely breathtaking.
No, of course it’s not appropriate to want to play a class and/or style that the player enjoys. Beyond doubt, the proper course is to ignore personal enjoyment or preference and simply play whatever build wins most consistently and easily.
Thank you for pointing that out with such scintillating clarity.
I have to say, the nerfs to Mesmer were fully justified, carefully thought out and implemented in a manner worthy of a multimillion dollar company.
Further, anet has once again upheld it’s widely acknowledged reputation for fair and even handed treatment of all players, wether it be in-game or on forums.
The pvp in this so far shows the beneficial effects of the careful, frequent and iterative adjustments that make this game so much fun for everyone involved.
Clearly, permitting the ESL Pro League players have such a strong influence on balance has been beneficial. They have been demonstrably even handed. They’ve suggested changes that benefit not only there own preferred classes and playstyles, but accommodated everyone in a very egalitarian manner.
See my record for the first evening below.
To further amplify my point, I have included my record so far on the second day. There are no adequate words to express my admiration for Arena Net’s even handedness, it’s unbiased balance…
The ESL Pro league players also deserve great credit for there visionary guidance.

Oh and Azukas? Thanks for comparing me to Fay I consider that a great ( if undeserved ) compliment.
@ azuka You attack me regularly for claiming that Mesmer is underpowered. I suppose now you’ll claim that Mesmer is better than warrior, thief and guard and needs a nerf.
Pro players tried it and failed miserably. There’s clear proof that Mesmer is seriously underpowered.
