Make [Time Catches Up] and [Time Marches On] baseline. This would make a non elite spec shatter Mesmer workable. A real buff to aa damage would be appropriate too.
Really ANET, that should have been done years ago.
Your personal attack is off topic. My point was and is that Mesmer bruises egos for two reasons; It has an image that isn’t hyper aggressive masculine. and ; It can stop the ego strokes that come from “zerk” style instant kills.
Nothing will be done, period. The game is deliberately structured to allow and encourage exploiting. That’s “team play” apparently.
You people totally have the wrong impression of CS. A smart player doesn’t double hit elites. They use CS to effectively lower elite cooldown and as a survival skill.
You are correct. The constant nerfs to thief and Mesmer are an outstanding example of pandering. Waaaaah! a Chronomancer stopped my insta nuke combo! Nerf needed urgently! Waaaaah! a thief got me.. stealth sucks nerf it and give it to everyone and their sister!
Unfortunately anet listens to those voices.
I’m glad you think that way. Many do not.. I was implying that part of the problem people seem to have with Mesmer is; The style can be seen as effeminate, so many players find it ego bruising to be beaten by a Mesmer.
The fact that Chronomancers are able to stop the instant kill combos and therefore slow down the gratification of “zerk” players is icing on the cake.
“A game dictated by office politics at ANET rather than what is really happening.”
I’ll answer the last statement first. I’m trying hard to care about this game. In truth, I can’t say that I believe for certain that ANET even has good intentions any more.
I don’t believe anet makes decisions based on data. Grouch complained about being beaten on thief by a specific Mesmer build. That build was completely removed from the game in the next patch a few days later. My impression is that decisions are made solely by office politics at anet.
Chronomancer is not too powerful. It’s sin is that it short circuits “zerk” instant kill attacks. In doing so, it bruises the egos of players.
After all, no one wants to be beaten by some ephemeral caster class that is about light and color. That’s almost like being beaten by a girl.
( and I’m a girl, btw )
On the level of most professions? That’s laughable. ANET has consistently undercut Mesmer since the huge confusion nerf.
The reality is that chronomancers short circuit the super duper insta kill shots that that “zerk” players love so well. So, Chrono cuts down on the ego-strokes-per-hour count.
It’s about the ego of non mesmers who don’t like being beaten by a seemingly ephemeral and even feminine styled caster class.
ANET’s main goal with this patch will be to destroy Mesmer.
@Chaith, worry not.. you’ll still be able to team with one low level player to get easy matches.
What you mean is; " I don’t get to pull off my unblockable one shot kill if a chrono is around. Therefore I’m not having fun. I don’t want to have to fight for more than 3 seconds at a time. Chrono nerf needed."
I’ve been around long enough to see anet’s pattern. Give a good thing to mesmer but break it and leave it broken.. sometimes for more than a year. Nuke a trait into the ground leaving nothing to replace it. In one case, announce and release a trait, and remove it minutes later.
As to free ride to legendary; the free ride to legendary is team exploiting. I’ve finally (in my fourth year in this game ) started to see some success on Mesmer. I’m confident that anet inteds to place us back where we were after the huge confusion nerf.
If you’re having a hard time against Mesmer, I suggest you get some practice time in.
Not only do I not agree, I suspect that you are trolling. Have you actually played Mesmer long enough to be familiar with it?
The nerf is going to be Mesmer breaking. ANET has an issue with Mesmer being successful.
they already anounced they are killing mesmer and buffing rev some more.
ofc it’s working as intended. The intention was to permit teams to farm hard.
I thinks it’s pretty obvious the intent is to nerf Chronomancers out of the game. ANET hates it when Mesmers are successful.
Sounds like another move to put Mesmer to trash tier, the way I read it.
I just got done reading the balance changes preview. The language says Mesmer is to receive yet another nuke nerf.
Why do you hate Mesmer, anet?
The easiest and most effective solution would be to make all players in a tournament queue solo for ranked.
That would slash the exploitation and it would mean that the stats more honestly reflected the player, not who they teamed with. There would need to be a filter for sync queue’ing.. sync’d players get opposite teams for example.
As a bonus it would shorten queue times by creating a larger pool of players for the match system to draw on.

My point was that both those games had problems similar to ANET PVP. In STO it’s pretty dead for PvP.
CoH is dead, period.
The focus on teams and trying to force players to play in teams is a huge mistake. I and many other players want to solo.
Also, new people come in ( not on a team ) and are immediately hammered. Then they leave and many don’t come back. That means a shrinking player base and the balance problems associated with that.
A shrinking player base increases balance problems and in turn reduces the player base still further. A death spiral.
ANET when you “Balance” please make sure you don’t just victimize Mesmer or Thief. As a Mesmer I went literally years unable to challenge a Warrior. My perception is that the devs rely more on who lost and has there feelings hurt on the internal servers than on what’s happening in the game.
Get out there and play, among the peasants, don’t just play at prime time. In Pvp the difference can be extreme depending on the time. Come play PVP around 0100 PST and see how things go when the exploiters are prowling.
In short, I think the devs and the management need a broader perspective on the game and less focus on the “ESport” dream.
OH, and wear your ANET guild tag. This will do two things; It will expose you to real player feedback and it will allow people to believe that you are inworld and care about the game.
Having someone check reports costs money. That seems to be the main issue. Players know that unless you use the “n” word or something along that line in the pvp lobby, ANET doesn’t care what you do.
The one and only effective fix I see is to force everyone to solo queue for tournaments. Unfortunately ANET has this weird thing of believing that teams are the Holy Grail and everyone wants to team. I miss GW1 and STO style with my npc krewe.
I’ve been taking a break in Star Trek Online (STO) by NCSoft. The buzz there is that pvp has the same basic issues; No real balance, you need a tight team to win and PUGs get insta hammered and leave.
Oh and there was that other game City of Heroes ( CoH) which was a lot of fun but died for some of the same reasons.
NC Soft and ANET think that if they force people to play on teams to be competitive it will ignite esports. They are mistaken.
Chrono Bunker got hit very hard with an emergency nerf and it will die rapidly to the constant interrupt from say.. DH or rev. This is a L2P issue.
I’m trying to get that achievement on 2 separate accounts. I’m currently running a 10% win rate on elementalist. I had similar “success” on Scrapper. There’s something to be said for profession MMR and for playing what you know.
The new players aren’t coming or are quickly driven away by being hammered in matches. I brought a guardian friend to pvp, after getting crushed 5v1 he vowed never to come back.
Anet could mitigate the damage somewhat by bringing back solo queue. In fact, I think all ranked matches should be solo queue. I haven’t pvp’d yet in GW1 but my understanding is that teams aren’t permitted?
If the intent were truly to be competitive and skill based, teams would be forbidden since they give a major advantage and conceal the weakness of individuals.
I’m no longer certain that ANET wants pvp to succeed.
Here’s my matchmaking story. 10% win rate over the past couple of days.
ANET this reminds me of the movie, “The Producers.” The two protagonists figure out that they can make more money failing than succeeding.
I honestly don’t understand the silence from the devs and system that seems almost optimized to be exploited? Please explain.
Nice evasion Chaith. Let me sum up the argument; There’s no reasonable way to know, for certain, that a person queue’d with a friend simply to queue with a friend or with the intention of getting soft matches.
Here’s the thing though, if a person steals and says they only intended it as a joke.. they are found guilty.
Beside that, a number of people have posted that they grouped with lower ranks to get into lower division matches.
The fact of the matter is that you, Chaith, show pretty low respect for players you don’t regard as being “esportsters.” I am am using your neologism. So, I find it difficult to believe that you are suddenly “friends” with amber rankers.
In all forms of sport, trying to get matched against someone of lower skill is considered dishonorable and cheating. One example that comes up from time to time is over aged players in sports like little league.
Since you are alleged to be a high level player and leader. I would expect that you would seek the toughest matches. If nothing else, out of pride. Instead, you post on the forum supporting openly subverting the system to farm lower level players.
A sportsman plays by the rules, anything less would be beneath her or his dignity.
-edit- For the record, I have two accounts, both are currently in Emerald. Neither has played anything other than as a solo queue in this tournament.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
No it doesn’t. I reported a rage quitter for weeks. He join a match and if the team didn’t 2 cap immediately he’d afk. To the best of my knowledge he’s still doing it.
I’d love to see this too. Unfortunately, the stats would be dismal. I’m not expecting anything like this, though I hope that anet is keeping internal records AND READING THEM.
I won’t report your post for implying that I have psych issues. You’re welcome.
Nice evasion. OK so you are countering my claim that matchmaking isn’t working ( based on an 80% loss rate by an average 339 point margin ) by showing an excessive win rate.
So then you agree with me, yes? If you’re winning that often and easily, then matchmaking isn’t working for you either.
What do you want me to say Ross? OK, “nice wins.” Now, how is that on topic?
First, I’m not a dude, dude. Second, match manipulation is cheating according to ANET. Queue ing with low tier players is match manipulation since it places the higher level player in a “softer” match than is appropriate.
Yes I have considered that I might be “just bad” at PvP. I have said multiple times that I’m a mediocre player. The frustration has left me in tears more than once.
As to your “secret,” I probably have more hours in game than you do. I’ve made a concerted effort to be better over the past 3 years or so.
When I’m getting hammered to the tune of 339 point losses in 80 PERCENT of my matches, it’s a clear indication of a problem.
I’m reasonably intelligent, a pvp 80.. have at least average game skills and a better than average comp and gaming mouse… cable internet. There’s no reason in a properly set up tournament I should be seeing this kind of pounding.
@mPascoal.4528 Your comment may get you “brownie” points.
@Chaith.8256 I’m sorry you’re hurt at being called on wrongdoing. Ironically, I enjoyed your video presentation on Scrapper and used it to get started.
Please note though. You couldn’t pay me to join your team, using that sort of tactics. That’s how little I think of the folks doing it.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
Here are my last 5 matches. 4 out of 5 were losses. The average point difference in these matches was 339.25. ANET, do you honestly wonder why I have a crumby attitude? Is it mysterious to you that PvP isn’t growing? Do you believe matchmaking is working well and not being heavily exploited?
Admittedly, I’m tired, having played all night and on a class that I’m not particularly good at. Still, this is becoming torture. Good thing I’m a masochist. This is why tournaments have a credibility gap. Last time it was turret engies.. this time it’s stacked teams.
I mean, does an actual mechanism exist for reporting? or is it simply ignored on forum?
Not 1v1, SOLO QUEUE for everyone playing in leagues.
Here’s a player openly AFK’d and talking to our team. We lost 501-45. Where do I report this jerk for cheating and fixing the match? I mean really report… I seriously doubt botting reports are even seen, much less taken seriously.
Easy fix; Everyone queue solo in ranked. Not only would this tend to concentrate similar skilled players, it would eliminate some of the unworthy faux diamond players.
+1 I agree wholeheartedly. I’d add that it offends me to be tripped up by other players farming on the cheap.
@Kevin.4209
The “highest pvp achievement currently in the game” is being achieved through cheap manipulation.
As to the elitist full statement; “Did you expect the highest pvp achievement currently in the game would be attainable by casuals?”
Well yes, actually. I expect all achievements to be possible without paying to win ( Buying HoT.) I hasten to add that I bought HoT twice for two accounts. I liked the Mesmer update. It made me feel I have an even chance going in. (sadly, Mesmer is still being undermined often by ANET with hard nerfs ) It should also be doable without needing to play games with the system.
This game is allegedly about heroism.. rising to the challenge. Heroism almost by definition is individual achievement. As such, it should be possible for an individual to rise to the challenge and to complete it.
The lack of a place for an individual is one reason WvW suffers. There really isn’t any room for a solo when exploiters run around in blobs of as many as 60. Some of the HoT maps have similar issues.
The players making money on this game represent a huge minority. It’s an interesting commentary on the state of society. You imply that exclusive levels should exist for players who cheat and manipulate and even pay guilds to help them “achieve” high rank. Is that really the position you want to take?
Match manipulation is cheating. I have no respect at all for someone who queues with lower tiers to get soft matches.
Sorry, that’s cheating and it makes the “achievement” meaningless. For the record, I’m trying to struggle through t4 emerald an have only solo queue’d. I’ve also gotten my profession wins on DH, Ranger (non druid ), Thief ( venom share ) and Mesmer along the way.
-edit- oh and mm necro as well.
-edit 2- and Scrapper
Play without a crutch and I might have some respect for you.
(edited by Ithilwen.1529)
And the kittened system pairs my team of pugs against a premade with 2 DH and a rev. No heavies on our side.
Needless to say.. they ran us flat. Nice match manipulation bois, I hope they choke on it.
lol, well said +1
The hyperbole was in claiming that PU Mesmer is “The ultimate Veil bot” with the implication that it is some high powered thing. PU was long ago nerfed at the behest of people like you.
The conversation Saturn posted was primarily between you and Sticker. So yes, you did call a senior Mesmer essentially ignorant.
As to your insults.. sticks and stones my dear.
Another tv news technique, accuse the other of what you are actually doing. Make true statements. Don’t advocate for arbitrary nerfs on my class.
If you can post accurate information, without hyperbole, then you will have no issues with me at all.
More hyperbole and misinformation. PU Mesmer is long since heavily nerfed. Mesmer has already been heavily nerfed.. singled out for a big hit in fact. Yet here you are advocating more nerfs.
You did in fact call a top Mesmer player basically ignorant. Saturn’s post was a copy of your post. Claiming otherwise is an outright falsehood. This isn’t TV news … you can’t make a thing true by repeating it often and loudly.
My guess is that you have a grudge against Mesmer. Truthfully, I think you’re trolling deliberately.
