Ok, well, the first mistake was to announce your intention.
Especially in WvW, its a very different animal than PvE.
In PvE maps, typically there will be people there attempting the same thing you are and will be helpful. WvW… that world is all about taking and holding territory while downing the enemy. If you are not there to help with that, they, for the most part, don’t care.
When I did my completion, I entered… scouted around a bit, got what I thought I could safely get… and was gone.
Unless I could attach myself to a zerg that was going my way, I pretty much did it alone.
Granted, as I was being chopped to bits, I wanted to scream that I was only there to complete the map. But then, I am not sure they would have believed me.

What you really need to do is join a helpful guild and go in together, instead of trying to solo everything. (coughs).

Joined a guild, check… joined a helpful one, check… and in fact, the guild I belong to helped a lot with out them or I even knowing it until I needed map completion. And, actually, never tried to solo it… some of it I did with the guild and other times solo or with the zerg group. And WvW is not everyone’s cup of tea(or Cawfee) for that matter…

Your experience with crafting legendaries

How?
Crafted 2, Twilight and Sunrise

How long to get materials?
Over the span of the time I started playing at the pre-event to the moment I decided to make it. Right at 2 years.

Method?
Killed bad guys, ran dungeons, participated in the game. For the first 6 months, I sold everything. Once I understood crafting, I salvaged everything.

How long to craft?
From the moment that I had Dusk drop on me, to finishing it… about 7 weeks. It took this long mainly because I had to wait for TC to turn green so that I could get the map completion(for 5 weeks I only needed the light house vista). It took me about 2 weeks to finish the map completion(60% to 99.99%), with the exception of the afore mentioned vista.
But the base materials, I had gathered and ready within a day or so.
I only had to spend about 300g, simply because I had most everything I needed already.

Play?
I play every day, between 4 to 7 hours. Weekends, 10 to 15 hours a day.
I did not always play this much, but this is what I played during the crafting period of Twilight.

Enjoy?
Sure. I learned a lot about the game and some of the different dynamics. I had jumping puzzles, but I had to learn and adjust my play style because some of the vistas are just like jp’s. I was happy not to have to spend a lot of money on the crafting aspect of the legendary. Was proud of myself for salvaging and storing.
I enjoy the game in general, building a legendry was never on my radar until I had the precursor drop. Even then, it took some time for me to decide to actually go after it.

I found the biggest issue, map completion. Not getting the change in color consistently really messed up my game plan. By the 4th week of not getting the right color map, I got a bit frustrated… so that aspect was not fun. I just had a second toon finish map completion, to I am ready for the next two legendry’s that decide to be made.

I made Twilight, held onto it for about a week then sold it. Bought Dawn, made Sunrise the following week. I did have to buy a lot of items, but then I had the gold to do it.

Seera:
“As to mystic forge or trading post for the precursor, I personally will be saving up money to buy off the trading post. But on days with Mystic Forger as a daily, I’ll buy 4 exotic level 80 scepters to gamble. Or doing the collection with HoT. But that will depend on what that entails.”
Draknar:
“I crafted Twilight. However I had to buy the precursor Dusk. There was no other way to reliably get it. I had spent countless hundreds in weapons to throw in the toilet, got no precursor. Been playing since early release, play regularly, no Dusk drop (no precursor drop ever actually.”

Don’t get me wrong, I am not a MF gambler in the sense of dumping loads of stuff into it. I just happened to have some exotics and figured why not… and surprise! Which, of course, would explain why I bought Dawn instead of dumping exotics down the MF.
I was not even looking for it to drop, totally expected to receive the same basic stuff out of it. No one should ever think the MF is a reliable way to get precursors..

Buying or Crafting?

Jenstone.6891

I had Dusk drop from the MF. Before that, I was never on the radar to have a legendary. So, I carefully bought and sold what I needed to craft Twilight.
After making it, I held on to the GS for about a week before I decided to sell it.
Why did I sell it? I prefer the Sunrise skin.
For Twilight, I had almost everything I needed, once I got map completion, so it only cost me about 300g total to build.
I sold Twilight, bought Dawn(at 55g less than the lowest asking price), then had to purchase 2/3 of the materials. Accidentally bought the wrong lodestones, duh.
Completely wiped out my Karma.
However, my net profit, after building Sunrise was about 1500g.
So, all in all, I came out ahead, by crafting it instead of straight buying it.
But like someone before mentioned, a mistake I made when I made Twilight, was that I purchased my materials before I attempted to make Mystic Clovers. Granted it worked out in the end, when I needed them for Sunrise.
Make the Mystic Clovers first… then purchase the mats.
Had I just purchased Sunrise out right(at the time) I would have only had a few hundred gold to spare.

Got a precursor as a drop and sold it to a merchant because I did not know what a precursor was or what a legendary was, nor was I interested in making one… (this just makes my head hurt remembering it)
I did not know how the TP worked, did not understand the crafting and salvaging aspect, could not understand why I could not buy an ID kit(like in GW).
Could not for the life of me figure out how to equip underwater utility skills(standing on land).
Been playing since the beta weekends, only found out about 6 months ago about auto deposit material to bank tab and the compact bags option… doh…
The last two toons I made were ele and engi… I submitted a claim/bug report for both because I just could not understand why I was not getting my second weapon set to activate…
Very early on, I had no coin(before the accounts cash was consolidated)… zero amount… I died and I just could not understand why I could not waypoint…

No… just no. PvP belongs in its arena. PvE belongs to the open world.
I play both, I suck at PvP but have improved over time. I am not relaxed playing PvP.
I don’t need/want it in the open world.
With PvE, I can relax and just enjoy the game play.
Besides…. isn’t what the OP is suggesting already seen in WvW to a certain extent?

I was working on a vista with 2 others in my party.
As they were taking in the view, I proceeded to keep running, right off the cliff into the rocks below. When I meant to just inch up onto the vista point, I actually double keyed, sending my toon into an automatic forward dodge roll. I rolled right between my party members… it was slightly embarrassing…

A "Thank you" out to the Naked zerg

in WvW

Posted by: Jenstone.6891

Jenstone.6891

I am not a big WvWer, so my time in the Mists is limited to rare guild events or map completion. And this time, I was in the middle of map completion activities.
I had just gotten the vista in the ruins area when a thief or a warrior came up behind me and started beating on me. I finish the vista and jumped, dodged, and rolled in attempt to get way. Naturally my attacker follows and puts me down pretty hard. Then all of a sudden about 15 “naked” TC guys show up and chopped the guy to pieces. They rezzed me and I was on my way… I was pretty shocked to see a zerg… small as it might have been, armed with only their weapons and undies… And I think my reaction was something like… “Thanks…. wait… what?… no armor… huh?” So, officially, to the naked zerg of TC… thank you

I also want to say thanks to the Blackgate Char that realized I was fighting the Spider Queen for the skill point and backed off, it was much appreciated. I have actually had a number of instances like this, both in BG and JQ. But not many…

Don’t get me wrong, I have been killed a lot by BG and JQ guys as I try for the map complete, which sorta ticks me off, but is understandable. And yeah, I have learned to run…

And thank you for getting the green this week! Got map completion!

Is the original Guild Wars worth playing?

I started playing GW about 11.5 months after it came out and I played it until the end, with the story transition from GW to GW2. Although, due to a new job and moving, I stopped playing GW for about a year, with the anticipation of GW2.
GW was my first online game, it blew me away with what it offered. I had never experienced anything like it before. I ended up with 27 toons, with 20 of them having finished all 4 of the story lines (Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, Eye of the North).
As a person who had his own guild, with no one else to play with, with the exception of random friends, hero’s were awesome for me.(real life demands prevented any realistic guild playing)
The best thing about GW was the amount of Lore you were able to attain during the story progression, which now while playing GW2, makes a lot of things make sense.
I do miss the variety of professions but honestly, that is all I miss from GW.
I tried to go back and play a bit after playing GW2 and no thank you.
For me and my play style, GW is ancient history.
But for someone new to the GW genre, sure why not.

I love the concept of leveling up, so much so that in GW I had 26 toons.
And keeping in that tradition, I now have 17 now.
In the past 6 months, I have rolled 5 new toons.
The first three were to try out the new system. The last two were for diversity and storage.
There are points I like and there are points I don’t like about the NPE.
But for me, the most limiting factor, is the new trait system.
Traits that I had access to are gone, have to buy them now.
I dislike it so much that I won’t be rolling a new toon anytime soon.
(Yes I know the trait change came before the NPE change, did not like the trait change then, either)
I do like the most of the other aspects of the NPE though.

Yup, log on pretty much every day for 5 to 6 hours, depending on the day.
Saturday and Sunday, typically about 10-12 hours, depending on RL issues.
Working on several items, the least of which is map completion.
Just had a Dusk drop, so gearing up for that adventure.
I play with a pretty active pve guild, dabble a bit in pvp and wvw.
The first year after release, I got behind the eight ball in the game because I traveled for work for 8 months. About 6 months ago, got into a good guild and have experienced a lot of the game.
And yet, I have not experienced it all, so yeah, I have a lot to do.

Getting a legendary/Eternity, worth it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

One advantage…. Eternity looks wicked cool.
But yeah, beyond the different look and the ability to change the stat type, no real advantage to Eternity over Sunrise or Twilight.
Just had Dusk drop from the MF… took me a couple days to decide what to do… eventually Eternity but for now Twilight will suffice, if for no other reason than it looks cool.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Jenstone.6891

I like and dislike some aspects of the new dailies.
These are my own opinions, based upon my game play.
Many may or may not agree, not going to argue about it.
I am not about AP, I find, for me, that the AP rewards are a bit lack luster.
Dislike about the new dailies:
1. With the old system, I used to take my low level toons and finish them. It was a great way to get experience and get an activity done. Two birds(rabbits) with one stone.
Like about the new dailies:
1. Less time taken to accomplish said daily.
2. Less time on dailies allows for more time to do other in game activities.

I prefer doing the daily activities on my low level toons. But, yes may not have access to that area. So I either, don’t do that activity or I jump on a toon that has that area opened. Pretty simple concept, considering I did the same thing with the old daily system, picked and chose from the choices given.

Just like with the old dailies, I can do one from each category and it will count toward the total. Or all from one and do none from the other two categories.

For me, there is a lot more to the game than just the dailies. But by reading a few of the comments in this thread, the old daily system is the only reason why some people logged on to play. I don’t understand that thinking, considering how big the game is. But to each their own.

I admit, the bell choir frustrated me for a long time. Something that seemed so easy was pretty dang difficult. Well, as I was talking to my guild mates, expressing my frustration, they pointed out how it was really supposed to work. Once I fully understood the mechanics… it is easy as pie. I am not a musician, don’t even play an instrument… but now I understand it, its pretty easy. The glowing ball drops… you follow it and when it reaches the inner circle you are standing on, you hit the note. I had always thought it was reversed, when the ball appeared, hit the note. Once I understood, finished the achievement pretty quickly, in less than 1/8 of the time I had spend being frustrated about it.
As for the other events, they are basically just that events, don’t like or dislike them. Not a big fan of JP so have not finished that one yet.
Overall, I have found this Wintersday pretty tame, but enjoyable.

For some, yes, the drop rate seems ridiculously low. I have opened approximately 80 chests, got 4 of the fossils. There is a chest in the bubbling water near the farm in the north west of dry top. Two of the 4 fossil drops occurred there. I am doing the chest runs, getting between 5 to 8 chests per dust storm. Only have about 50 picks left, so once they are gone, won’t be doing it any more, just trying to use the picks to my advantage instead of wasting them.

Yes, with 5, it is harder. But I have only done it once with 5, typically 2 or 3 party members works well. One person to deal with the menders, the other two to keep the beating on the statue, goes pretty quick.

So, I ran 10 toons through this. I did a few alone and did a few with pugs. There were times when the ghosts would divert the charr from their assigned task and I needed to reset them. That was the biggest PITA, as were the orbs, but I learned I could out run them and they would go poof.
Hands down, my mesmers had the easiest time of it. My warrior was close behind. Until I changed up my ele’s skill set, I had a difficult time. My ranger had an relatively easy time of it. I had a lot of difficulty with my Guardian because I was not playing it right for this situation.
If alone, I had to keep the charr focused and the menders dead. And in a lot of cases, I prefer doing things on my own. But, honestly, I enjoyed this fight more when I was with a group. Not because it made defeating the statue easier, because it was easier, it was interesting to see what everyone else was doing and what skill set they brought to the fight.
And I have no intention of doing it again for the achievements…. stupid idea.. IMHO.

He was consumed by the quest for collecting diamonds, rubies and the like. Alas, some like to think his death happened on a bed in a grand house, but that was not to be. ok, yeah, I was missing a step between first and second born. And I did not remember the lore exactly. However….that does not diminish the fact that the mother tree is not exactly motherly to all the offspring.
And her attitude is of importance, and if you are not important, you don’t matter.

well, she had 12 servants/kids, whom she cared for dearly. it was like that for at least two years. and then hundreds of others showed up, then thousands. she can’t listen to every single person.

it’s like a religious person complaining their god doesn’t have time to talk to them directly, only to his chosen few. or a more relatable issue, it’s like queen jennah having to personally care about each and every krytan.

just because she’s the “mother tree” doesn’t mean she has time to spend with every single sylvari (especially a looney like cadeyrn). she cares for them, but they’re not her special few. in caithe’s words, “you’re either firstborn, or you’re simply sylvari”.

Ok but the point I was making was that there are several people wondering why now, it seems to be difficult to get in and see the pale tree, now after everything that our characters have done. The idea, as Caithe said, ’you’re first born or you are simply sylvari" bears my thoughts out. Unless you are first born, you don’t matter to her, rather unimportant in her grand scheme. So we (some of us not being sylvari) would simply be less than simply sylvari, thus even less important. At one time our characters were important to the pale tree and the story. But since then, our importance to her has diminished and rather quickly. We were with a first born then, so we were important… we are not with a first born now, so not as important.
If she is willing to dismiss one of her own, I can see her willingly dismiss a being that is not of her same race.

Once he started asking questions and she had no answers, he got angry and she became disassociated. It was like, once he became unimportant to her, in her mind he became irrelevant enough to ignore or forget. I thought this concept was odd behavior for the sainted mother.
It may well be, the once the big ‘Z’ was eliminated, my character may have become irrelevant to her, no longer needed in the grand scheme of things, in her small world. And being irrelevant, no longer having the access to her “wisdom”.

Maybe… or it could be new plot twist they may develop later.
Hence not making a big deal about it.
I remember during the story line, that one guy did not seem to come from the pale tree and yet, that is where that idea ended…
I don’t remember that guy even being mentioned again… so maybe it is a new story line down the road….
