Bring back The Festival of the Four Winds!

in Living World

Jenstone.6891

I don’t disagree with the idea of the festival happening again, but I kind of disagree with the reasoning why, fairness.
None of this is about being fair, it is more about what is.
If the argument for the festival to return was, “the Zephyrites, after suffering a heavy blow in Dry Top, have been able to rebuild and want to celebrate a new beginning by reactivating their traditional festival,” then I am on board for that.

Waste to have too many character slots?

I love alts.
I love what they bring to the table, the ability to personalize each one,.
There was a time when I had a group of asura that I PVP’d with, had each profession, each had a separate job or function.
That developed into having one of each profession for each race.
With the exception of Charr (I only have 4 of them), I have a character for almost every need.
Each is set up slightly different, with a different role, its own trinkets, its own armor.
I did this because I completely detest moving trinkets and armor around, total waste of time.
I have 2 characters that I raid with, 4 characters that I fractal with.
All the others work through living stories.
So for me, its worth it.

Does anyone just have fun anymore?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jenstone.6891

Jenstone.6891

Yes, yes I have fun.
I have fun with the challenge of various things like fractals or raids or dailies or even the living story.
(I don’t raid much, but enjoy the gameplay)
I enjoy the winning and the losing, because I learn from losing.
Sometimes it takes a while to learn, but learning can be fun.
There are highs and lows, and yes at times a bit of boredom.
But it is one of two games I play to relax and have fun.
If I was not having fun, I would have let the door kick me in the rear a long time ago.
I know several of my friends are not having fun and one refuses to craft, anything.
Which will throw up road blocks and prevent some items from being finished.
My heart goes out to them, but my mind says, if you really wanted it… you would do it.
Sometimes we have to make something that is not fun, fun.
It is a conscious decision one that is not always easy, but hey, its a game for me.
Games are meant to be fun and that’s why I play.

I have all the professions, a few I like, a few I don’t.
If your future holds raids, there are a number of professions that work.
Condi Warrior – Vipers gear works very well sword/torch /longbow
Trail blazer Mesmer- dps can be off the charts
But it took me time to get used to them.

In PVE, I like all of the professions except for Engineer and Rev.
They work but the play style is just not to my liking.
But I have found that I enjoy Necro much more than the other professions.
It took some learning, I have both condi and power necros, which are a slightly different play style.

I worked pretty hard for the gear I have, as well as the gold I have.
Just takes time.

I Need Some Advice

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jenstone.6891

Jenstone.6891

Well, for one, I just play the game.
I log in, do the dailies, then think about what am I going to do today.
Sometimes (most often now) I join up with friends and play.
Some of them need help, so I help them.
I sometimes need help, so they help me.
Right now, I have few goals or needs, but I just enjoy playing the game.
I have made legendary weapons because they are shiny and I wanted to.
But most importantly, I was not forced to.

I have been on a few raids but I certainly don’t live to raid.
I have accepted that I won’t have legendary armor and I am ok with that.
It is not why I play the game.

The living stories, I enjoy and I would not want more time between expansions.
That would kill it for me because I need the bits and pieces of new content every couple of months.
I had a couple of friends pull me kicking and screaming into Fractals. But once I understood fractals and the changes they made were for the good, I embraced it.

OP, of course the game is going to be different and you are going to be in over your head,. This should not be surprising to you. A lot has happened in the past year, so unless you keep up with it, you will be lost.
The fortunate part is that you can pick up the living story at any time and be current.
You don’t have to have the previous living stories to progress, however a lot of information would be lost without doing it.
I disagree that the game is based on the cash shop. I played the game for almost two years before I even used the TP and bought anything. There are a lot of items in-game that I have still yet to discover that have nothing associated with the cash shop.
BTW, welcome back to the game.
I do hope you can get some enjoyment out of it, because that is why I play, I enjoy it.

Curious why more people don't PvP or WvW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Jenstone.6891

Personally I don’t PvP because I don’t enjoy it, I don’t find it fun.
I admit I am not very good, but that should not cause someone to get salty.
Things tend to much to personal.
I also don’t have many friends that PvP.
WvW, I enjoy, mainly because it is not a time gated instance and I can play with as many of my friends as I can, which increases my fun factor.
I have also found WvW to be much more engaging.

I have done map complete with every profession, but not every race.
I enjoy playing all the different professions, so there is not one that sticks out as the best, in my mind. They each have a different play style.
Hack and slash or run like the wind is my motto when dealing with mobs.
I did give up on the Charr toon for map completion, too blasted big and that lope, oh what a pain that is to deal with.
Norn also present a small problem, but the Norm females are skinny in comparison so the males, so that made it easier to see.

You complain about it happening one time, but for me it has happened much more.
The answer is, the unlocks unlock what you have not already unlocked in game.
This has almost nothing to do with RNG, but with your progress of unlocks in the game.
With all the other stuff, yeah, not getting good drops bites.
But we have all been there, in your shoes, thinking the same thing.

Bring Back the GW1 Skillsets

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jenstone.6891

Jenstone.6891

I loved GW, it was my first introduction to an MMO style game.
I loved being able to experiment with builds and 97.05% they were junk.
But, hey, had hero’s to bail me out.
I loved capturing elite skills and mapping(when it was truly mapping)
I loved hard mode map clearing.
Do I miss all that, yes I do.
But not enough to want it to be brought back.

GW2 is a different game.
A better game than GW was, in my opinion(yes I know not everyone or even a few people will agree with this, but it is how I think)
Where in GW you got to experiment with skill sets, in GW2 you get to experiment with Armor stats and weapon stats.
That is what I see the trade off being, the variety of skill sets verses the variety of armor/weapon stat choices.

Do you miss hardmode/vanquish ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

/age and /deaths

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Jenstone.6891

Yeah, so my age is 5211.
On a toon I made with in the first week of launch, 1076 deaths.
Not going to do all 27 toons, way too much time.

I took 9 months off, for work, ie traveling away from home, so my age is a lot less then it should be.
The deaths, well, there was no incentive to remain alive, so it did not matter.
GW had survivor, which I achieved 7 times.
GW2, staying alive, early on had no real meaning.

PVE not competitive enough.

Wintersday and ringing of the bells.
Seems to me it is a pve environment, yet we are competing against each other, just as the OP suggests.
As far as I am concerned, that should be the end of it, let it be the once a year event, that lasts for a short while.
Don’t mess with PvE.

No, imho, HOT has not ruined the game.
Sure, there were a few issues, but that is to be expected for any expansion.
If anything, I believe it has made the game stronger, by requiring players to play more challenging and difficult content.
I believe it has made me a better player.

To me it seems to be a pretty weak argument to say, “I hate HOT, so I will close up my computer and never play again… but I love the core game.”
If you love the core game, you would play it.

Gliding is the single best thing about it all, to heck with mounts, we got gliders.
I look forward to the next step, next progression, next evolution of the game.

we had over 3 years with no new content
how many other games have you played for over 3 years?
core Tyria IS solid, if it wasnt, none of us would be here
HoTs performance speaks for itself

Hmmm, 3 years with no new content?
Really, you are saying that?
Season 1? Was new content, from what was at launch.
Season 2? Was new content, from what was at launch.
Dry Top? Guess that was not new content.
Silver Wastes? Guess that was not new content either.
So, there was new content added to the game, after launch.

I play only one other game, other the GW series, and that is going into its 5th year.

Yes, core Tyria is solid, never said it was not.
But if love the core game, you would play it, not leave it.
But to leave the core game over HoT, to me and my opinion is odd.
That said, I like HoT, a lot and I like the direction the game is going.

HoT "gated" exploration

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Jenstone.6891

Jenstone.6891

When I read the OP, I agreed to a point, especially about AB.
There is the HP that can only be accessed after a completed meta.
Ok, that is gated by the event, but I don’t seem to have a problem finding a map that will complete it. However, others might.
I ran into a different problem, but same topic.
I typically will explore maps, before doing the story.
And in this particular map, there is a POI and Vista that is only accessible, in the egg room, after you do the associated story line that grants you permission to enter.
So, those two spots are gated, by the story.
I had to take my character through that point in the story, which was easy enough, but just took some time.
A little research would have helped the OP understand what needed to be done.
It seems a little extreme to me to uninstall the game, just because of this.

I read someplace a long time ago , that named exotics would have a better chance , than for example a pearl whatever that is crafted.

That’s not true, as far as I know. A named exotic is still just an exotic.

Right, its not true. In a previous thread, someone asked about methodology concerning the MF. I wrote that I use only named exotics, with my results being that in an eight month time span I got 4 precursors by doing that. But I was not necessarily advocating that. However, what I did not state(and no one asked) was how many times I tried it. (once a day for about 7 months) 98% of the time, it does not work for me. I have gotten a precursor from random junk exotics.

Top 5 best values in Black Lion Gem Shop

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jenstone.6891

Jenstone.6891

My 2 copper cents worth:
1. Copper Fed Salvage O-matic – It was until they made the changes to the silver. I find I get better results from the silver now, so hardly use the copper.

2. Watchwork mining pick! yes, agree there. I have gained so many watch work pieces that I would have never gained before. Sold a lot of crafted pieces. It has paid for itself.

3.Storage expander- yup, needed that very early on. Got tired of filling up my bank space with mats. But this was more of a convenience value to me.

4. Additional character slots: Agreed. I am an alt hound, with about 22 toons now.

5. black lion keys : I love opening chests. Sure, sometimes it is a waste, but yes, I get enjoyment out of just opening things. I don’t like paying for the keys, I do think they are too expensive. I am keeping about 30 black lion skins in storage, as the value matures. Would not have the skins had not gotten keys.

Additional items:
6. dye kits – like the black lion chests, I enjoy opening dye kits. I have had pretty good luck, they specifically have kept me in the gold, when I needed it.

7. Any of the permanent mining, logging, foraging tools.

8. extra bank slots

Its hard to main a character (for 3 years)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jenstone.6891

Jenstone.6891

I would really like more inventory space, but not on my toons, in the bank.

20 slot bags are not expensive, especially if you do the trick or treat bags.
Go get some candy corn, trade it in for cobbs, trade for 20 slot bags.
Almost all my toons have these now simply because it is the cheap option.
You do know about the deposit materials to bank button at the top of the inventory?
Salvage as you go, does not take time if done immediately.
Frees up inventory space pretty quickly.

Your point number 2- You take time to try out new builds to find what you like to play. Hey, that’s great. My question to you is, how much time to you spend with the new build? 5 minutes? 15? While you are trying out an armor set with a build, the rest of the armor sets can be in your bank.

Point 3- No, mastering a profession is not really difficult. You find what works for you and you go with it. There have not been that many changes to the skills that warrant this being an issue.

I actually have separate toons for different uses. You don’t want to do that, I get it. But I wonder, with all the changing of the armor that you do, I wonder how much time is lost, compared to just switching toons.

Not to be too flippant, but if getting drops fills up your inventory and it annoys you, don’t pick up anything. That would solve your problem.

I read some of the responses, what do you do, with your inventory issues, that takes 30 minutes at the bank?

Old Lions Arch

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jenstone.6891

Jenstone.6891

Lion’s Arch sold it’s identity as a pirate town when it became a full on fortress city with buildings shaped like sea creatures.

It’s services layout is worse than the original LA, and light years worse than when it was wrecked…

For me personally this nostalgia trip was actually more painful than happy just because of how much of the old is truly dead now, and how alien the new really feels.

This is likely something that will end up in the story somewhere, they have a fortress, so now either somebody or something will attack it, or there will be a massive power shift. Indeed, I think it would be criminal not to bring in a rather large side-story arc about this. A place like this who just recently was home to so many pirates and thugs will not remain peaceful as their way of life, and the openness of it, just dried up. And the Captain’s Council itself, made of basically pirate captains, would start seeing massive internal struggles like assassination attempts, coups, politics…the things pirates don’t do. Lest we forget Evon Gnashblade still likely has an axe to grind with Ellen Kiel, and faces competition from the Consortium who have been all too happy to use nigh-criminal measures to further their own endeavors.

But LA itself will never be the same again, and I think the look and feel of the old LA was better, never to be seen again.

Services are roughly the same as they were at launch. Lion’s Arch was only a “pirate town” due to the events of Orr rising. In GW1, it was not so. It looks more like a fortified coastal base now.

I agree about the fortified coastal base. I took a little trip around the new LA… I got to wonder who is in charge of the defenses. The placement of the guns makes me wonder just where they expect the next threat to come from. I would have expected the fortifications to have moved a little closer to the light house, to the west, where the straits, leading from the ocean, could be better covered. The narrow strait is an awesome place for defense, bottling up enemy ships. But hey, it is only a game, maybe I am thinking too much.

You are right, it is challenging to everything on all the toons. Especially if you are an Altoholic…. I am one, proudly with 21 toons.(well it was 21 the last time I checked)
Each has a purpose and different play style.
Have done 6 map completions, not so important now.
However, I like to try all the different story lines, so I am not in-game linear.
Although, after two charr’s… that’s enough of that race for me.
Can’t wait to start switching out the professions… another little challenge.
