Could somebody who is completely against any progression in gear please explain to me why it is okay for players to have a level advantage on each other but not okay to have a gear advantage? If you truly want to play a game that is perfectly balanced from the start, then why play a game that has levels at all?

If I were to agree with all of you, I could come to GW2 and complain that I do not have enough time to level to 80 and that it gives players who have more time available to have an ‘unfair’ advantage over me. Whether it is levels or gear… any MMO that has a level system rewards players with more playing time from the very start.

Anyone who is against gear progression can not argue otherwise without looking like a complete hypocrite. Stats from higher levels or gear…. it’s all the same…

Not everyone sees the world in black and white. It’s not always 2 mutually exclusive options.

Replace the word grind with having to work for “anything”. Character progression with reward is the most important part of these games.

My character has progressed and I have been rewarded.

If you like the other online games, why are you here? This one is designed to be different. There are dozens of grind-fests. Anything out of Korea will give you hours of tedious, repetitive grinding to get gear good enough to compete with those who started a few months before you.

MMOs are not about grinding.

The vocal minority on the forum do not represent the playerbase. This game was advertised as not requiring a grind and most people bought the game because of the advertising rather than just randomly picking it up – therefore most of us expect to not have to grind.

Doesn’t matter if they are separate.

If it’s full on gear based then, even without a gear score, people will judge whether you are able to take part based on your gear.

And in PvP it’s even worse as you literally find yourself unable to compete on the same level as either your allies or your enemies.

Either way, one group of players get what they want – people who want the gear treadmill or people who don’t.

If not, there’s a setting for DX9 in the settings file. Have you tried changing that?

And, tbh, even if you aren’t running DX9 it might be worth trying it in DX9 mode to see if it works.

Fanboys will defend gw2 to death regardless of its flaws. What is forcing you to get good gear and do raids/dungeons..? Am I going to stand behind you and break your fingers if you don’t get a certain piece of gear and run a certain dungeon? This isn’t farmville but it seems to be turning into one with the idea of having houses. What is there to do at level 80? Besides PvP, craft,explore. Nothing.
EDIT: socializing doesn’t count either cause that’s a perk of an mmo not just this specific one. Large guilds feel like friends lists on Facebook, you don’t know or talk to half the people.

What about the people who don’t want the outcome of each battle to come down to who has farmed the best gear? Why should every game be targeted at one small portion of the potential audience?

WoW players? Well… no. There’s nothing new here, all they would do is lose their leet geared character to play the same game again. Might as well just roll an alt instead and have access to your mains bank.

Non-MMO players? No again, why would people who aren’t interested in current MMOs be interested in a clone of current MMOs?

Duplicating other games and thinking that you will be as popular is stupid. No one has duplicated WoW’s success no matter how similar they are. It’s time to accept that and realise that people who like games like WoW are playing WoW.

That’s why they kept missing the points and brought in arguments that’re really unrelated.

We can see there’re two types of people here. A group who knows the true essense of mmorpg. Another group who try to make mmorpg look like a single-player rpg or multi-player fps/pvp/player game.

They are playing the game as it was designed to be and how it was advertised.

We’ve known for ages that this isn’t a “grind for leet loot” game. Anyone who does a modicum of research prior to purchasing a game would have known that it’s not that sort of game. It’s the reason that many people purchased it.

The 2 types of people here are as follows:

1. The people who want to play GW2.
2. The people who want to turn GW2 into a generic MMO clone with GW-based lore in the background.

What does it show as in your “items I’ve sold” tab, 5g 30s or something lower?

A combination of AA and sharpness tweaks has vastly improved how all models look ingame for me, both character and world.

I think with the amount of traffic on the forums, special situations like yours could get overlooked, especially if someone in the community was helping out and flagged it. I would definitely drop an email to ANet and let them know. If another mistake is made, you wouldn’t want to have to sort it out while on a posting suspension.

Now give me one valid reason why it would be a bad idea to remove the points from the dailies and monthlies? How would it affect the game in any way? You can disagree with liking achievements, I don’t really care about that. But why would it affect you if you don’t like achievements? People seem to be skipping my point here.

“Someone might overtake me” doesn’t count as valid, especially as it gives no advantage and to my knowledge you can’t even view other people’s achievements.

It’s not a case of “if you like achievements you must agree with my change”, not at all.

FYI It has a settings file, not liking one person’s settings in a screenshot is no reason not to use it.

Nor does it mean that it makes it “all bright and neon-glowy”, because you are in full control of what is applied.

There is no gear advantage in PvE.

They increase the stat cap by 10%, the new mobs have 10% better stats.

You have no advantage.

The gear advantage is a PvP thing, it’s a case of “farm for the best gear and play as long as the current vets or you will not compete”.

Fair enough, if you want to have a meaningful discussion I’d be happy to debate any reasons that you may have for feeling that the game is dying.

But this isn’t the thread for that, it’s off topic enough already.

a long grind costing many hours and much silver for repairs should be rewarded. cosmetic skins for gear … not a reward in my opinion. Why sign up for a cost sink and a money sink for gear no better than what you have?

WvW queue is full every time I’ve tried to get in during prime time on Desolation.

It’s certainly not everyone’s problem. Hyperbole gets posts dismissed, not treated seriously.

Regardless… I disagree with everything that you posted.

They’re not out of place, they cause events which if failed mean the waypoint is contested with mobs taking over the area which then spawns additional events to allow the players to recapture them.

And the lack of a portal animation is no reason for a feature to be removed.

It’s nothing like seeing a car in LOTRO because it’s not against the established lore, unless I am missing something?
