most of the fan boys arent even 80 yet lol

You mean “most of the people still enjoying the game aren’t the ones who rushed to the end”?

Yeah because clearly every who levels faster than you is rushing sarcasm
Heres an idea, how about different people have different pacing.

Should I say you’re a bad player if you take this long to hit 80?

Go run a marathon when you can one day alright and tell me if anyone running faster than you is rushing to the finish line or that you’re just slow.

I never said it was a bad thing. If that’s what you want to do then do it.

But you need to accept that if you want to go through content quickly you should check how much content is available before you make a purchase.

Surely if you know this is how you play you would consider the amount of content a deal-breaker and would have at least looked into it?

An MMO immediately after release does not sound like the ideal purchase for you. MMOs almost always add end-game content over time or increase the amount of progression available over time, if the amount of content is what matters to you there are many MMOs which have been out a few years which have amassed lots of content.

But they all started off smaller. And playing an MMO in the beginning of its lifecycle will always be like that; even with dynamic events and never-ending WvW there’s only so much content they have had time to create so far.

This Game Is Nothing But Frustrating After Level 40

A “revolutionary MMO” should come up with a solution for this problem. After all, all MMOs will suffer this faith. Imho one viable solution would be to have 1 “leveling-server” after 2-3 months, where all players level up their character. And once they hit max-level, they go to their real-server. Maybe you can make it so that when a low-level charcater steps into a city, he enters his “home-server”. But all the questing should be done on a shared “leveling-server”. That way leveling will always feel crowded and fun. It’s just an idea, I’m sure there will be better ideas. But some studio has to be the first to tackle this problem.

As long as this is combined with “guesting” to allow cross-server grouping (moving the players into the same instance, either over to the leveling server or onto the main server) then it sounds great.

But I’d not want to completely isolate any alts that I create.

It’s quite simple.

Other than the number in the bottom left corner of your screen increasing, what did you enjoy?

Do that.

liked killing people- omw to that

If you aim for 100% map completion like me then you’ll have been scaled down for most of your time.

WvW is one of the few things where being an actual 80 gives a real advantage, and it’s the only thing that makes me consider rushing my leveling.

It’s definitely what I’ll be focusing on when I get to 80.

I will play until I reach level 80. Maybe I’ll try to get 100% world exploration but not sure. After that I think I will buy another game. However I find GW2 is a great game. Tis been a refreshing experience.

I’ll do this, likely find somewhere good to farm @ 80 so I can buy whatever I need (possibly craft too as I’m currently selling it all – which is why I hit 4g before I hit level 30) and get full world exploration. On top of that I’ll WvW extensively.

I’ll certainly get my money’s worth, but I accept that an MMO immediately after release has limited “end-game” content. But given the amount of maps for each level bracket, coupled with the fact that you can sell on the trading post from anywhere with a couple of mouse clicks and the fact that I intent to get map completion anyway so I intend to go through all the maps, means I have loads to do without having to worry about getting to 80.

It’s only WvW which I am really limited in. I want to be a natural level 80 for WvW, but for the most of the rest I will have my level scaled down anyway. There’s too much content for that not to be the case if you aim for 100% map completion.

But then if they come back, they unquit?

Quitting in MMo terms generally means unsubbing. Guild Wars isn’t really something you quit, you just take a break. Eventually you will see something you like and login again, but you don’t have to actually do anything to “quit”.

My point is that if you aren’t happy, wait for things to get patched or new content to be released.

In the words of a famous cowboy:

“I wish I could quit you”

Unsubbing is no more final than uninstalling / not playing a game with no ongoing sub.

In both cases you can reverse the decision and gain access to the game / account again.

You call these valid? They aren’t even necessarily bad things.

If you want a proper discussion then your post needs much less opinion and much more substantiated facts.

Why we shouldn't be forced to explore...

Jestunhi.7429

here’s the thing, I don’t want to be questing with my sylvari in the forest, fighting the nightmare court, only to find that once I’ve done all the karma quests in the area and run every event that has popped up (even if I didn’t want to) that I am still several levels under the next area and can’t keep questing in my natural progression path, my only options are to go get all the vistas and points of interest (things that I don’t want to be forced to do because not only does it trivialize the nicely crafted areas but feels tedious) OR go fight the inquisition or the dragon worshipers or any other “not my problem” in areas that make no sense for my character to have traveled to, that aren’t part of my natural progression path, and remove me from any sort of immersion and turn what should be a nice quest arc into a set of go here do this objectives to get to the next level.

I think that the questing in this game is most aweful I have ever seen in any MMO, not because it’s “different” and not because it’s “hard” but because it’s so badly designed that I am punished for doing it by being stripped or any immersion and being made to feel like I’m grinding for exp, all I want to do is quest, the major distinction between questing and grinding is presentation, something that GW2 lacks to a large degree.

What I’m reading here is “I want to limit my gameplay to a small percentage of the content & map, but I still expect to be given loads of xp as if I’d completed it all”.

You want to skip the majority of the content designed for each level? Fine, you’re free to do so. But it’s hardly surprising that you find yourself too low level to succeed in the higher level areas.

intel core 2 duo CPU e8300 @ 2.83GHz
2gb ram

How much of that 2Gb RAM is used just running your OS or background apps?

RAM looks to be the obvious bottleneck, although the CPU is hardly ultra-modern either.

:edit:

That mobo supports up to ddr3 1066Mhz, you can get 4Gb of that for under £20 in the UK (check websites like EBuyer.com, Overclockers.co.uk & Scan.co.uk) or under US$20 on sites like NewEgg.com

I’d advise checking the number of RAM slots which you are using – add an extra 2Gb if there’s room and it’s the same size, otherwise store your current RAM as a spare and get 4Gb. I have 8Gb myself.

:edit2:

That mobo has 2 DDR3 slots and 2 DDR2 slots, and you cannot use both types of RAM at once. Plus it has a limit of 4Gb. So a 4Gb matched pair sounds like the best way forward, should be around 35 pounds or dollars once you add in delivery.

Here’s what you do: You do a zone that’s your level range, just do the hearts and if you run into any events along the way awesome and if not no biggie. Just make sure you do a many of the hearts that you find fun. Then once you finish with that go to another map that is in the in the same or close to the same level range.

This.

I see so much whining about a lack of content at a specific level, but the people doing the whining are only looking at a single map in that level bracket.

I’m going through all the lower level maps for exploration, but doing all the heats and dynamic quests that I see, as well as gathering everything I see, and even though it’s a low level area I’ve got quite a few levels and plenty of profit after selling gear / materials.

And even if there’s no official server for that timezone, if there are enough people who play in that timezone they may well have unofficially designated a server so you should do a forum search.

As I’ve said a couple times now, hearts are not all im doing. I’ve Participated in a broad range of activities, everything available really. I gather everything I come across, I use all available resources any time I go near a crafting station, I participate in events, I explore, I do personal story missions, I’ve done limited wvw due to queues and being relatively useless with 2 skills slots, lack of traits, and lowbie gear.

Each race has a city, and outside those cities is a low level zone.

You can easily access the other cities via Lion’s Arch (which can be accessed for free via Hearts of Mist in your character window). I advise getting 100% on all the cities and then if you still want more xp to exit a city and work through that 1-15 zone (again, doing hearts, dynamic events, crafting and map completion).

I’m close to 4g at level 31.

And that’s after buying a set of good looking level 6o armour & weapons to transmute to appearance onto my level 25 gear.

I decided that since I’m buying gear on the TP rather than crafting it, I might as well sell the crafting materials that I have gathered so far. Even discounting the amount I invested to get to around 50 armour / weapon crafting I still sold enough to earn about 3g.

:edit:

“Buying low & selling high” is not abusing the TP.

Lag?

I had a bit of rubber banding on the day I bought the game but have had nothing since then.

:edit:

And people need to learn that a single player game with a set amount of mobs & 1 player is completely different to an MMO with hundreds / thousands of characters with their own combination of armour, weapons and dyes. Many of which have AoE / cone attacks which require additional calculations to be done to see who will be hit. And that’s in addition to almost certainly having far more mobs than a single player has at any given time.

A game like Super Mario Brothers has lots of rewards built into it. That’s part of the good game design. When you complete a particularly difficult level you get a new level and a new boss. You are rewarded with advancement. You are rewarded with points.

Apply the same logic to GW2, are new areas and new bosses enough reward or do you need items for every perceived achievement too (by which I mean, whenever you feel you have achieved something rather than when you are given an actual in-game achievement)?

It was enough back when Super Mario Bros. came out, is it now?

All MMORPGs focus around this. all RPGs do aswell, progression and reward.

Play with the graphics settings.

Each change takes effect immediately and there’s an FPS display in the options window so you can see immediately the effect each change has.

I’d strongly advise against a partial upgrade (e.g. more RAM) as with such an outdated system the RAM would almost certainly be of no use if/when you do do a full rebuild (for the same reason that someone earlier stated that you can’t just drop an i3 into a different socket motherboard)

Is speedrunning dungeons an exploit?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bug out the first mob pack

If this is accurate, then yes it should be an exploit.

Because a bug is actively being exploited for profit.

If it’s simply “not killing every single mob that you come across” I fail to see any justification for it being an exploit, but if it’s purposefully exploiting bugs then by it’s very definition it is almost certainly going to be considered an exploit.

:edit:

A worrying amount of people (on this forum and in general) seem to be unaware of what an exploit is.

I see posts saying that if it’s ingame it’s the devs fault and therefore not an exploit.

But the whole point of an exploit is that you are exploiting a bug / issue for personal gain above and beyond what it was intended for (although whether a specific example is an exploit is down to the devs, not the forum warriors).

I dont really think age has anything do do with the issue. When you sink a large sum of your time into something like an MMO, you SHOULD be expected to be rewarded. With single player games, when you beat it, you are rewarded with an ending. With MMO’s having no ending, you need some kind of goal to achieve. Most of the time with MMO’s the goal is better gear. If there is no incentive to achieve for, than the time you put in is pretty much worthless.

I dont see the problem with having something to look forward to while playing. I love to put in time, and the sense of satisfaction you get when you are finally rewarded is awesome. Love it or hate it, that is what has made games like WOW so successful. People like rewards. Its just human nature.

Name me a single other form of entertainment that gives as many hours of fresh content / experiences for the same or lower price.

MMOs, even with a monthly sub, are amazingly good value forms of entertainment. But people still expect more.

Of course some people don’t want to see them, but allowing each user to decide on their own is far better.

As for sig sizes, just allow an attached image so you have access to the image itself instead of just a URL. that way you can code it to automatically check the sizes before allowing its use (I’ve seen this on multiple forums).

sigh

I have yet to see a valid reason why map completion should be a purely pve thing.

PvP involves maps too.

If you choose to play only part of the game then you have no right to complain about not reaching 100% completion.

But their replies don’t help the OP.

And the OP doesn’t help anyone.

Re-read it. Is it a detailed bug report or is it a tantrum?

There’s a world of difference between a detailed bug report and a rage post.

:edit:

The event / dragon in question isn’t even identified until the 11th post of the thread…

Maybe it was a bug? idk, watch some tv and chill out.

I tried the lighthearted response… it didn’t go down well.

Wow, really? So PvP monthly achievements are now “forcing” you to do PvP content? When the heck were achievements required at all?

100% Map completion isn’t all that important, either, for that matter. You get an ingredient to build a legendary weapon, but the legendary weapon is only really useful in PvP environments (you can do all the level 80 content with what you got, trust me). So why do you want it so much? The rewards have no practical purpose for you.

When talking about how “required” something is in a fantasy world, which we play not because we must but because we want to, you come of looking a bit silly.

There is nothing in the game which is required, the game itself is not required. If someone wants to play for exploration, then that’s perfectly fine. They are not required to play the game the way that you personally enjoy.

Nothing that I will ever do in the game will ever have any practical purpose, other than entertainment. And that’s subjective with each person enjoying different things.

The dragon didn’t have 51 pieces of loot (for you and 50 others) in his pockets?

How can this be?!

transfer mining "exploiters"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

For what it’s worth, I see free character transfers for mining an exploit (because it’s exploiting the character transfer for an unintended purpose – temporarily farming a server dry) but with guesting I see it as perfectly acceptable (as this is designed to let you access another server to play with friends – and that playing must also include gathering, crafting, and whatever else).

However, although I personally see one as an exploit and the other not, the results of both would be pretty much the same. Either way the actions of the player are accessing different servers to mine more ore.

Why Can't I Switch Class?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Switching to another class would DESTROY the game, but using all weapons with your class (with unique skills to your class example an elementalist with a sword, the sword becomes with his element) would be cool.

Please explain exactly how it would DESTROY the game.

transfer mining "exploiters"

The point here is this:

None of you get to decide what is or is not an exploit. No matter how certain you may be.

You can suspect something is and report people for it / avoid doing it. But you do not have the authority to make the decision as to whether it is or is not an exploit.

We have to assume that official posts on the matter are… official. If they aren’t, then how can we believe anything we hear from any devs, community team, etc.

They need to communicate and actually check before answering with their own opinions.
