This is so much better than WASD due to the increased buttons right next to your movement keys.

Sadly I could never quite adjust and always give up and go back to WASD.

Why are so many people coming in to say an entirely optional item which gives no advantage and is purely cosmetic is too expensive?

If you don’t think it’s worth buying then don’t buy it. Why are you trying to haggle, this isn’t a market stall.

It then becomes more of a status symbol for the people who do buy it.

I love the fact that the people saying “ANet allows increased FoV via multiple monitors – undeniable proof that they want us to be able to change our FoV!!” are the same people who refuse to accept ANet’s decision on this subject.

Why is it undeniable proof when you infer the logic behind their decisions but when they flat out tell you their intentions they should be ignored and argued with?

If you don’t think the looks of it are worth buying then don’t buy it.

It’s entirely optional – not everyone has to look the same. Not everyone has to aim for tier 3 cultural armour.

Personally I think I’ll mix and match with other armour pieces. Rather than wearing it for the sake of wearing it I’ll buy the pieces which I think look good and mix them with pieces from other sets which I think look better in the other slots and go well together with the existing cultural pieces.

@Apakal – absolutely correct. many decent websites offer pre-assembled bundles, barebones systems (just add stuff like hard drives), pre-assembled, pre-overclocked & stability tested systems or even build your own custom PC.

In the UK I tend to use one of 3 websites (although I build myself I know some of these do some pre-assembled bundles of various kinds):

I hear that www.newegg.com is a decent site which builds PC’s for you if you are in the US, but I’ve never really looked as I’m in the UK. So I’ll leave the US recommendations to someone else.

As Blue says, building is way better value for money.

As for where from, that kinda depends what country you need it delivered to and what currency you want to pay in, none of which you have mentioned.

The miniature is an item and not a pet. You can sell it to others (except the soulbound ones you got for CE or HoM rewards). Proper consistent naming is important with tradable items.

Display name != item name.

In the pets window all pets have the correct names showing in the pet list, not the nicknames.

If they can manage it for normal pets I don’t see why they can’t for minis.

I didn’t play Ranger all that much (got mine to 45), but I never noticed an animation bug with Shortbow. And 40ms must be between 4-8% DPS decrease — .04s longer per shot, and that weapon fired at least 1/s, and likely much faster (2/s?).

The wiki has it down as 0.5sec / shot (I don’t think it’s been updated for this change), which would be 2 shots / sec.

Haven’t gotten into PvP yet, but I find using LB Rapid Fire with the Piercing Arrows trait works pretty well if my pet is tanking some. And with cond fields in between the conditions can stack up fast.

For melee, sword and horn using traits that synergize with evasion, and with sword you can almost perma-cripple…just gotta save your dodge/skill2/skill3 for big incoming attacks.

But…LB dmg is a bit low I have to admit. My pet bird does more dmg than I do on a dps basis (for single target) using just the 1 skill. :/

Long bow barely does more damage per hit than short bow at close range. And does so at, according to the wiki, 1.25secs per shot compared to the shortbow’s (pre-patch) 0.5secs per shot.

It does better damage (per hit, I’m not going into dps) at long range.

I for one never once noticed any bugs with the animation speed. Asking all my ranger friends, neither did they. Did ANYONE notice an animation bug?

I noticed no issues either at normal speed or at QZ speed.

I’ve used the armour once, and in that case it seemed to place the cloth overlay with my guild logo over the top of my existing armour.

However, it could have just been luck that my armour happened to match the model in the guild armour.

Gold is relatively cheap to buy. I have not purchased any because the game isn’t good enough to warrant the investment. However, games like WoW and Tera were and the invest was warranted. Then you were able to play the game with good / best gear as intended without having to work 80 hrs a week, then come home and work another 30 on a game with no reward.

However, the amount of currency that is rewarded in GW2 is beyond laughable, there is NO way to earn 100g reasonably. Notice I said reasonably.

Buying gold is how these people got their money. Period.

My brother got a Dusk first time he used the mystic forge, sold it got about 180g on the TP soon after (once he borrowed enough gold to cover the charges).

He’s never bought currency.

I have ~20g at level 35, I’ve not exploited or bought.

There are plenty of ways to earn money, how “reasonable” they are is subjective and differs from person to person.

All you people who complain about a lack of money – what do you do with it while you are AFK?

There is no charge for cancelling a buy order. Every night, and each morning before I go to work, I setup a selection of buy orders at relatively low prices.

Now that it’s working on the FIFO system I know that if enough is sold I will eventually be the one buying them.

And when I get back I set up sell orders and cancel any remaining buy orders (getting 100% of the collateral back when I do so).

How many of you do something useful with your gold overnight and how many just let it sit in your bag / bank?

I can’t help wondering how ANet would react if literally 100% of the playerbase suddenly started playing only warriors.

Suddenly they look at their metrics and see that the only data they have is warriors and that people have abandoned every other class.

I’d like to be a fly on the wall at the meeting to explain that!

Random obstructions when there is nothing between you and the target are fairly common.

What the warrior was like in BWE1 has absolutely no relation to the current class balance.

Class balance is decided by the current classes, not some historic data.

Unless I am going to encounter and fight a BWE1 warrior it’s meaningless.

I see a worrying amount of people who don’t have much gold who accuse everyone who is richer than them of exploiting.

Is this the new “anyone who can kill me is exploiting” adapted for an economic system?

No, I think he wants to be able to switch his normal set out for his magic find set on one click of a button. Can’t say as I blame him really, I tried to roll like that for a like a day and gave up on magic find after that, just not worth it. I forgot to switch my magic find gear in on one of the chests and got the exact same results I did with the magic find gear on and was like, “goodbye” to the magic find gear.

AFAIK MF has no effect on chests anyway.

Although it’s all conjecture at this point, different people coming to different conclusions about an unexplained system.

I mean that pets or no pets, the ranger class isn’t in a good place at the moment, and I think it might have been because they tried to merge two different concepts. Whether you guys like the result or not, we can still argue that the class isn’t as good as it could be in relation with other classes.

Oh I’d never claim that the class balance is perfect, and realistically I doubt it ever will be.

But that’s not to say that the core principles or design of the classes are wrong, just that some values could do with tweaking, etc.

Forums are awful, and this subforum should have stickies with the known issues (but it doesn’t…).

I find posting fixes it so I tend to post “Dummy post to get quote buttons working…” and then delete it after I’ve made my proper post.

Longbow is fine for standing atop a building in PvP and firing down at the masses who can’t do anything about it.

In PvE it’s rubbish (barring #5 which can certainly be useful).

Depends how many times it’s been discussed.

The phrase “Flogging a dead horse” springs to mind.

Basically, you can give feedback, but you cannot decide the direction of the game. It’s that simple. They have invested god knows how much in this game and they cannot simply make whatever changes are demanded by the vocal minority on the forum. If they did they’d soon have an awful mash up of different features, styles, functions, etc which barely work together.

Not listening to and disagreeing with making a change are two different things. They have explained the reasoning behind their decision in various threads. You might not agree with it. I do.

But, as I said, if they remove the balance issues caused by it (by linking PC / NPC / mob visibility to your characters LoS instead of the camera’s LoS) then I can’t think of any other reason not to add an FoV slider.

As I have said in the many other threads, if they tie visibility of players / NPCs / mobs to line of sight (to stop FoV being exploited) then I’d be perfectly happy with it being able to be increased.

If the balance issue is negated then I couldn’t care less.

Hmm, seems you are right. I’m glad I had been trading for low value items where the difference between the result of the 2 calculations is a fraction of a copper.

No, it’s not.

The fact that a few people are able to increase their FoV via additional hardware does not mean we should ignore the balance issues which come with increased FoV and just let everyone do it.

Adding 4 same minor runes to armor pieces does not, unfortunately, give u the 2 bonuses twice.

If u do, it will say (4/2), and 2 of those 4 added runes r useless/pointless.

And imo, most second bonuses with minor runes are not good, and its a better idea to equip 6 different minor runes for only the first bonus of those.

I tend to agree with this, certainly on the lowest level runes. However % duration bonuses (to protection, burn, bleed, etc) can be useful for certain characters and are often the bonus for the 2nd rune of the same kind.

Of course he means make sure your sell price is greater than (purchase price / .85), which is about an 18% markup. You lose money at (purchase price * 1.15).

Sell price * 0.85 = max buy price to break even.

Buy price * 1.15 = min sell price to break even.

Personally I just use the calculator app on my phone rather than alt tabbing to a website (or using an online calculator on my phone).

It was the fact that the main WvW guilds transferred due to waiting times that has caused us to be suffering so badly in the first place!

But hopefully things will improve if they are now coming back.

you talkin bout keepin up with other classes’s dps, but other classes actually use more than the button “1”

Other classes have damage dealing abilities other than 1.

We have things like snare and stun with damage which is roughly the same, if not lower, than our auto-attack.

1 is our primary source of damage because 2-5 aren’t more powerful attacks like they are with most damage-focused weapon / class combos.

The only one higher than the autoattack is Poison Volley, which is only useful at point blank range (assuming single target damage is the focus of this discussion).

FYI, replacing the final part of the URL (everything after “/page/”) with “1” will correctly display the first page with all its posts.

Both groups of people are only actually playing part of the game.

Any time a player refuses to take part in a specific part of the game they should accept the consequences (e.g. selling everything to venders at vender prices and then finding that they are poorer than other players of their level).
