Personally I like to have both around me.
Revs provide a lot of boons which are a big help for group play, Guardians provide support with boons, condition clears and are really good at crowd control.
Both have their place, I think there are too few good revenants in WvW personally.
My builds for WvW are in my forum signature ( http://asphyxia.tv/builds ) – it may help you out. I can’t really speak to PvE much but I’ve had pretty good success with my WvW builds.
Check out my builds link in my forum signature.
I main elementalist in WvW and my builds are listed there.
I honestly wish there was an option to just leave WvW alone in that poll and listen to feedback from the community on what we really want lol.
I voted for the scoring because the ideas listed under the quality of life stuff was just awful and most of which is already handled by things like overlays that already exist if you want them.
No, obviously TC players are crying because Beastgate is beating on them like we do every other server – there is no possibility of a double team because we are beating on DB just as bad as we’re beating on TC lol.. Actually we’re beating on DB worse, they have a lower score than TC.
So no, stop being salty because you’re losing – everyone loses to Blackgate, its just life. If you don’t like it, transfer to a lower tier where you fight someone else.
ganking 1v1 duels isn’t gonna help your queue times. but if your doing it based on a morale standpoint. it will make players join groups/zergs more often.
Transfer to a different server if you’re worried about queues. Tired of people complaining in stacked servers about queues. I am on Blackgate, I experience massive queues in every map every day – but I choose to be on Blackgate, I can transfer any time I want if I don’t want to deal with the queues anymore.
I also don’t even go to EBG to duel or roam anymore now that Alpine is back. I never liked EBG since I started playing the game, but I liked it more than I like DBL so that was where I was and where most of the roamers were. Now there are roamers on the Alpine maps, thats where I roam and duel.
so that being said. how is a 1v1 duels different, from a player roaming between camps and being forced into a 1v1 fight when a theif or warrior comes out of nowhere and tries to kill you. its literally no different at all
In a forced 1 vs. 1 I would help my teammate. I mean, we are one team. In a duel, I will get flamed for helping (as Josh xt showed).
But the question to you as well: How do you differentiate whether it is a forced 1 vs. 1 or a duel?
why is this a relevant question? when the end result is the same. there’s no point about differentiating either. if people are dueling, it takes up space in the queue for people that wanna join zergs, if people are roaming and randomly forced into 1v1 fights. those people takes up space in the queue for people that wanna join zergs
if a single player isn’t dueling. that player is roaming the map picking off another single player. duel or not
WvW isn’t Zerg vs Zerg. What blows my mind is that people still haven’t figured out after almost 4 years that splitting up the zergs in to smaller groups that go in different directions is WAY more effective. Imagine this, 10 smaller groups of 5 people can take 10 objectives at the same time, where as a 50 man group can only take one objective at a time.
WvW was advertised as a big fights pvp mode and that’s why people flocked to it. Don’t be salty just because the game isn’t some perfectly orchestrated roamer’s paradise where you never have to fight more than 5 people at a time.
When your 5 man group can take a sieged up keep faster than the 50 man group then maybe your logic will pan out…
My 5 man group has done that many times., because we worked with the other groups on the map while they hit the other keeps lol.
I am not salty at all about that, my comment was to blackgamma who thinks that roamers are just wasting space in the maps and that they should join the zerg or leave so someone else can lol.
This tread is still alive? There is no double team – close thread.
I’m talking best class for zerging, roaming, scouting, soloing camps, and running away from enemies to avoid fights when I feel like it.
It seems like warrior would be the best class to use whenever I’m in the mood for any of these things. What do you guys think?
Of course this is all opinion based stuff, but here are my favorites for each of those.
Zerging
Staff ele running marauder/zerk or celestial.
Roaming
Dagger/Warhorn elementalist (build link is in my signature)
Scouting
Pretty much anything with passive movement speed, I scout while I roam and I roam on my Elementalist. I guess if all you wanted to do was scout, I would say a thief, warrior or Revenant would be best for this.
Soloing camps
Any class can solo a camp with the right builds. I personally like my Guardian and Roaming Elementalist the most for the camp soloing. Guardian can do the GS pull then drop traps to just destroy a camp in seconds. Necromancer is also very good at soloing camps, just pull the mobs behind a wall or something to LOS them then drop wells on them.
Running away from enemies
Thief, mesmer, engineer, ranger, warrior, revenant all pretty good at running away from enemies. I run Fiery Greatsword on my Elementalist so that if it gets too bad and it looks like there is no good way to win or if a zerg is coming, I can just drop that and get out.
Over all, the skill cap is a bit higher on Elementalist than Warrior – but both are pretty good choices for all of the above short of Zerging. Playing backline in zergs is much easier than front line.
I think it is fine to have the yaks sped up like that. Faster upgrades and requires people to be taking the camps if they want to prevent the yaks from getting there.

If its 1 person fighting 1 other person, leave it alone unless someone asks for help. Even then, I don’t like to help someone who is fighting only 1 person because they should learn how to fight for themselves. There is such a lack of skill in this game its insane, almost 4 years this game has been out and people still don’t know how to fight with even numbers lol.
I have to admit, my staff zerker ele wrecks. I do find it kinda unfair I can blow a defender’s siege to pieces with the click of one skill.
Yes, but if someone flicks a booger at you, you go down state.
Quality of Life improvements did not win the vote, so we have no immediate plans to work on something like this. Also, while it might not seem like it, this problem is non-trivial to solve cleanly.
We didn’t need this feature added in the first place, just give us an option to turn it off or just turn it off. It came with HoT and you guys already have tweaked it once when guilds were abusing it by claiming several items on and off.
Tyler, if you get some time, go watch some of my past streams on twitch (in my signature) and look at how large that is with my screen resolution. It takes up so much of my viewing space for no reason and I have no option to move it or turn it off. I know I am not the only one with this issue, but it is really hurting my game play.
I have the AMD R9 290x personally, it has been really good for GW2.
I think PPK should be just as important as PPT personally. I don’t play for point ticks as a roamer. Sure I take camps and towers when I can, but my primary focus is defeating my foes in WvW, the fights – not the objectives. Making PPK matter as much as PPT caters to everyone in WvW because then we all have an equal role in our world score.
Also as a side note, I want to help you – but I also find this to be funny because I am one of those people picking off people trying to get back to their zerg. But I don’t do it on stealth classes, I do it on my Elementalist or Guardian generally.
Your build and what class you play will have a major impact on what happens, but also individual skill is going to come in to play when you’re fighting someone who is LOOKING for a person to pick off that is just trying to run to their zerg.
What class are you playing?
I play an elementalist (builds in my forum signature link) – I have no problems beating them because they can’t burst me like they can with squishier people. My guardian build fares well against them as well. Both of which are set up for roaming and 1v1 kind of play.
I have my Guardian builds here: http://asphyxia.tv/builds
The roaming one is a ton of fun to play.
I would legit quit the game if they changed WvW to use PvP style amulet. I’ve spent so much time and money on my ascended gear and so much more time on theory crafting builds that require several different kinds of armor to meet certain numbers.
Changing WvW to be like PvP builds would be a slap in the face to so many people who don’t even like to do PvE, but did it just to obtain Ascended armor/weapons, only to rip that away from us and make it useless to us since we don’t really want to do PvE anyway.
No thanks, worst idea I’ve heard since Golem week.
I mean, I want 1000 all wheel horsepower in my car, but I only have 460 all wheel horsepower currently.
You guys, someone give me all of the parts to get my car to be 1000awhp so that it is like the other 1000awhp cars. I want those parts free and now! I already paid for my car, I should have 1000awhp because other people who paid more money have it.
I find it hilarious that so many are advocating ‘nerf’ to night capping… You do realize any slight towards ocx/sea/eu players will make some people play less? That is exactly what gw2 needs right now.. less players /s
^ This. Don’t make prime time worth more.
Also please don’t do this “Last Stand” idea. The “Last Stand” makes one day matter too much in the match, every day should be worth the same.
Josh…
You seem to have a very big misunderstanding on PvE, and WvW.
You want the PvE elements in WvW to matter too much.
testpig just go to pve land lol.
Just do what every guild on mag does and stack 40 seconds of resistance
I’m sure we all know that durability runes will be nurfed into the ground before too long. Nothing stays that OP for long.
I’d like more details on this “skirmishing” idea. As a person who does not play Blob Wars, I roam with a small group and hope to still be effective.
When I was a kid and wanted a video game, I mowed my neighbors lawns for money. Sure you won’t get it RIGHT NOW, you’ll have to work for it. If anything, ANet is teaching you to work for things you want.
Great and all you had a suburban upbringing in a wealthy country, but let’s personify the example via city living? Or physical disability preventing such labor-oriented work to be performed (my behavior as a teen was substantially limited to indoor-play from my own disability). There are a lot of reasons why this could be difficult to achieve.
I really wish I knew why people feel so entitled to things they didn’t work for. Yes, I had a decent upbringing in a decent area, I don’t have any physical disabilities but I also didn’t only earn money doing things like mowing lawns. I’m not going to go in to my life story – but I designed web sites at a young age which made me money as well.
I get it that life is hard, but I have bad news for you – it doesn’t get easier and no one is going to hand anything to you. I’ve worked for everything I have, nothing was handed to me. I lived in a lower-middle class area my whole life until adulthood because I worked for what I wanted. I don’t think I’ll ever understand people who think it is okay to complain about not having things they’re not willing to work for.
And the others, who are you to tell us to go to other games? We will complain until we get an adequate response by someone at ANet who decides these things.
Not sure why you feel so entitled to anything. They don’t owe you anything, they’ve given you over 3 years of content for $50 or less. I’ve spent that much going to the movie theater to see 2 movies lol.
I still want to build a smiley face on the battlefield made from siege. Some people call that a waste of time. I think those people lack imagination!
“What Siege! WHAT SAVINGS!”
A friend and I tried to do this before, sadly we were siege capped.
Could we use golems? Hmmm. Now I sense a logistical challenge.
Hmm we sure could, just build them and move them to once place. My friend and I wanted to write out “Francis” with ballistas and take a screenshot for fun after Deadpool came out, but we were wildly unsuccessful lol.

I had the same (can’t move) pretty often on my ele, but in sPVP.
Very annoyng bug! Loosing match just because can’t move is not fair at all.
Yep. I have “/sit” pre-typed in PvP and WvW now so that I can just double tap my enter key and get out of it in the middle of a fight. Really annoying problem…
Can’t tell if Sartharina is just trolling or the worst kind of person…
The leader or driver. I run a group of generally 3-8 people and I lead the group around and call the targets.
Edit: Easier answer is whoever is best at calling the most high-value targets. Usually a “good” leader or driver does this.
If people spent even a 10th of the time they spent complaining about having to spend $50 on the expansion, they could make $50 IRL to just do it lol…
Jobs typically don’t let you decide to take paid overtime. In some nations, currency is very weak to the U.S. dollar. Not to mention that a large number of players are in their teenage/college years.
For example, if I said that you needed to spend $250 for the expansion because your nation’s economy was weaker than the one selling the expansion, would you conclude that a reasonable price? Would you have concluded that a reasonable price when you were in high school/college?

Scum bag condi builds don’t deserve anything lol.
Don’t play condi, problem solved.
I voted for scoring changes even though I don’t care at all about PPT. I think it would just be more accurate to “who did what” if the scoring was more accurate.
The other option was all cosmetic stuff that I don’t care at all about, which is probably why a lot of people voted for scoring like I did.
Changing the points based on it being “out of prime time” is unfair to those who are playing out of prime time. If there is a system in place that effects all time zones evenly, it would be more fair of a handicap.
First of all, what server are you on?
Second, those populations are ONLY based on WvW population now. They’re not based on the PvE population.
If you’re in an NA server, it is “linked” with another server which people could still transfer to in order to boost your coverage.
6 BL ? Continu to link more server for that and being able to queue those maps…
The point is to not have a bunch of map queues. Reset nights, I don’t even try to play my blackgate account because every map is instantly queued with 60+ people when reset happens lol. If we did have 6 maps, I think it would be a lot more viable.
So it would be better with 2 DBL and 1 ABL or with 1 DBL and 2 ABL………………
Neither. They should make 6 Borderland maps, 3 Alpine, 3 DBL, 1 EBG. This would be a big help for Tier 1 and Tier 2 that have huge queues in prime time and it could also help them to open up the servers to be able to accept more people. Since servers like BG and ET are merged (linked, whatever) together, ET could take a lot of transfers without it causing too many more issues with queues. It is already seeming like its causing problems because BG is full and people are using ET to come play on BG lol.
Check out my builds, they’re a bit more well rounded.
I think Reaper can be good as a mid line, but over all damage seems to favor the classic back line wellomancer. I just couldn’t get in to Reaper for group play, I think it would be pretty good for roaming at least.
If I can click on a necro or other high value target faster/easier than a tab would do, I do that. But tab targetting until I get to the target I want is usually the best way for me.
How is the damage for the wvw frontline build? To me it just feels like I can do much more for my team if I stick to backline.
Everyone running mallyx and durability runes makes condi damage seem like a non-factor to me.
You provide almost permanent up time for protection, frost aura, vigor and regeneration to your allies in the front line. That comes out to ~46% damage reduction for them as well as a lot of regeneration and condi clense. The damage is decent, its about on par with a front line Guardian in my opinion. The primary focus of the front line ele is more for supporting the front line.
Unfortunately, if you run in to a guild like BOO that is running 50 people that are full condi, you’ll change your mind about condi being a non-factor lol. Raw damage seems to be the thing you have to fight most against, which is why the build is very heavy on the damage reduction.
You need to spec in to “Provisioning” mastery from your WvW points to get WvW autoloot enabled.
I’m not asking to nerf the Staff overall but the radius of Fire Attunement.
It’s really frustrating to defend anything with the high radius of Meteor Shower.
How are we supposed to defend our T3 Garrisons and Towers against this especially when you’re “Outnumbered” (which still is a useless buff up to date)?Just lost another T3 Garrison because most of our players are working and we couldn’t do anything against a 50+ men zerk.
Here is what I read:
WAHHH MY ARROW CARTS AREN’T GOOD ENOUGH!!!!
Sincerly,
A Zerk/Marauder Elementalist (when I play in larger groups) that loves to meteor baddies on arrow carts.
(edited by Josh XT.6053)
For now <- operative statement.
Hopefully they’ll poll the WvW players once more like they just did about the scoring changes instead of putting DBL back in place without asking us or caring about what we want like they did last time.
My hope is that they learned from that mistake.
