What would stop it from working? If one server has 2 people in WvW and between the 2 others have 100, that server gets +98% their point tick. I don’t see why that would create any strange scoring scenario or why it wouldn’t work with smaller player numbers. It is designed to balance scoring based on population. If anything, it would punish a server for stacking a time zone.

If people want to leave WvW for 15+ minutes so that they are not a part of the point ticks, then that isn’t a problem. And I don’t know about you, but if someone asked me to leave WvW, I’d tell them where they can stick that idea lol.

Couldn’t say it was due to taunt, or anything else. I play a few classes so cant remember which it was (probably thief?) but definitely not ele.
I relogged to fix the problem.
Started happening to me around when alpine was reintroduced i’d say

Try using /sit. I narrowed it down with dueling to being taunted.

To those screaming “Duel in guild hall, eotm or OS” – I have bad news for you. I don’t know ANY of the people I am dueling ever lmao. We usually just run in to each other, bow and go. We don’t just have a community of duelers looking for duels, its usually people solo roaming who run into another solo roamer.

Thats leads my question. Do you prefer duelling in the open field in WvW or would you prefer duelling in PvP? Your opponent gets chosen similar to normal conquest/stronghold, the map is designed for duels, you get opponents from all worlds including your own, the armor/weapons are independent of your gold account, nobody can disturb you, etc.

WvW for sure.

PvP builds are very limited, there isn’t a whole lot of build diversity there and the armor spec is way different. In WvW, I can mismatch my gear, build for more of certain thing or build for more balance than PvP can offer.

Since they dropped Celestial amulet from PvP, I rarely go back. They should have just nurfed it a little bit, not removed it all together.

I think the celestial amulet is a good example why I disagree with you. The celestial amulet was removed from PvP because it led to imbalance between the builds. There is no such control in WvW. A victory in a duel has hence no meaning. You won, great! I can also run faster than a little child.

Now you left PvP because you cannot use the celestial amulet. In other words: I am not OP anymore, I will not play anymore. Learn other builds, other classes. That would be an example of your skill.

Say what you want, I played cele ele for quite awhile and in PvP it wasn’t rare to see a cele ele get beat up by a revenant. Pre-diamond skin nurf, it was nearly unkillable, but after that it would die to condi necros pretty easily still.

So to give a better answer here.

My human ele gets focused a lot in WvW, stands out a bit more since it is bigger. My asura ele doesn’t get focused even close to as much as my human one does because it is smaller and surrounded by bigger people. People who are not using tab targetting are more likely to target a bigger target in my experience.

Yeah those people generally also skill click and things of that nature lol. I don’t get it either.

Generally the conversation goes like this:

I’m in a 1v1, having a good fight.

Some person comes in and starts attacking the person I am dueling.

I write “STOP, DUELING” in say chat.

If they do not stop, that is where the chewing begins.

If they do stop, cool! They may have just learned a thing lol.

Why are you chewing anyone out? As much as you dislike someone interrupting your duels, it’s important to get respect, you first have to give it. Most duellers know this and are left unmolested.

If you’re yelling at people for interrupting your duels, you’re just as guilty as the people in this thread demanding duellers stop taking up queue space.

Like I said before, it is very simple – if you see 2 people fighting 1v1, leave them be. This game is nearly 4 years old, if people don’t understand such a basic concept in WvW, they either shouldn’t be there or should be taught.

I have no problem teaching people.

To be clear, nothing was disabled for you by not having HoT. You just don’t get that beefier motor that can go faster and do more things essentially.

Not having it doesn’t make the game unplayable, but it makes it harder for you to compete with those who do have the expansion. Call it an engine upgrade, people who bought HoT gained a turbocharger.

I’ve posted this previously in a couple other threads, but I figured I’d make an actual thread for it. See what people think.

My idea would be based on population per point tick. This would be at all times, not just during a certain time zone. However many people participated in an event or attacked a defeated enemy. Not necessarily how many people entered WvW, because why count them if they did not participate?

So lets say we are Blackgate, we have 100 people in WvW and have 400 ppt. Dragonbrand has 40 people in WvW and has 100ppt, Yaks bend has 195ppt and has 60 people. (Just 3 random example servers with example populations for science.)

Blackgate retains 400 points for this tick, they have 100 players and 100 enemies.

Dragonbrand has 160 enemies to their 40 players, they gain +75% points because they’re outnumbered by 75%, 175 points for this tick.

Yaks Bend has 140 enemies to their 60 players, they gain 57%~ points because they’re outnumbered by 57%~, so they get 306 points for this tick.

Each point tick would basically start a new list of players who participated and throw them into a list.

It is not just nostalgia to a lot of people. A lot of us are happy to have a playable map back because Deserted BL was barely playable. Not great places for open field fighting, too many choke points, too much PvE nonsense, maps were too big making finding fights nearly impossible.

So many reasons, search around. It is so much more than just nostalgia, I hope they leave Alpine there forever.

I can’t speak for all on Mag, but my impression is that the stability buff was the #1 reason for many to return to wvw. ABL helped as well, but is probably #2 at best.

Stability buff helped, but it is most likely #2 reason for people returning. Even after stability got messed up, a lot of people still played, it was just the GvG scene that really died off. When they took away Alpine, that was when the population dip really happened.

While I am glad they changed stability, it doesn’t effect me or my guild much if at all since we’re a roaming group. We returned to WvW because Alpine was returned. I can’t speak for everyone either, but I think stability buff wasn’t nearly as important as Alpine returning.

Stability change is the 1# change along with reward tracks, server linking and so on, that brought life back in wvw again. the Alpine borders come in a 109# or something and has already killed wvw back in the days and will again. People will get tired of this depressive map and do irl stuff instead

WvW wasn’t dead until HoT came out. There are number statistics somewhere, I can’t remember where off hand but I think they were on the MOS site or Dulfy.

I think the footsteps are one of the cool signature things of the legendaries. I love the Twilight and Bolt ones personally.

Also, this game is VERY CPU heavy, more so than GPU heavy.

Yeah those settings are a bit too high for that GPU.

Turn off “Best Texture Filtering”, “Depth Blur”
Turn on “Effect LOD”

Reflections are taxing on your video card, try changing that to none.
Textures to Medium or Low.
Postprocessing to None.
I cant remember what “Ambient Texture Filtering” did, but I am pretty sure I have that turned off personally.

That should help bring the FPS up by quite a bit, might also make your laptop stop running really hot lol.

Prime time PPT counts 10x as much as other hours (prime time). EU servers will be EU prime time

So do you just not do math or something? PPT counts most when the number is at its highest point. During prime time, usually all 3 servers are very close in points unless 1 server just has more PPT oriented players or more players in general.

Generally, PPT in off hours from a server with a higher population of people who play the PPT wars is where a ton of that servers points come from. If you tick at 405ppt at 2am while your enemies have 145ppt each, that is likely your high point lol, which is unlikely to be during prime time..

Turn the graphics settings down in game and close any applications running in the background.

Take a screen shot of your graphics settings from the game and post it up here, might help us know what kind of settings you have.

Only seems to happen when I am playing with dagger main hand. It doesn’t happen to me when I am running staff.

What I can only assume is that dagger main hand doesn’t have any real range to it and since taunt makes you auto attack and my character isn’t able to hit anything, it is making me stuck.. I am not sure, but I know this happens to me all the time in WvW and it has caused me more problems than anything..

I get permanently stuck in place until I type “/sit” which breaks me free.

Just how I feel as a roamer and person who loves doing uninterrupted 1v1s. People like this person are the people who irritate me and most other people who are enjoying their fights. I usually end up having to stop a fight, let the person I am dueling kill the person who jumped in or end up chewing out the person who jumped in if they managed to kill the person I was fighting.

No, that is also a bad idea because the grenades are projectiles that can be simply reflected or destroyed. Less tags that way. I’d suggest something with a lot of AOE like a Necromancer, Elementalist or Guardian for trying to make sure you get a lot of tags.

Yeah if you can swap to axe/shield in the time it takes that projectile to bounce back in your face, that is certainly impressive. But I highly doubt it would ever happen lol.

I bet you would like to have help in 1v1 situations because you’re bad at the game and can’t fight for yourself lol.

Okay I have friends in TC and in DB – but I don’t help either of them lol. If anything, we find it even more fun to find and defeat each other then throw shame siege at and t-bag lol.. I don’t doubt that a leader of some guild on BG is a friend of some leader of some guild on DB and that they might make plays together at times. In the same breath, I don’t doubt DB and TC do it, I don’t doubt BG and TC do it lol.

At this point, most people who have been doing WvW for a long time have friends in just about every kitten server. I’ve had friends on DB and TC warn me where their blob is at so that I can avoid running in to them with my roaming group, but I’m certainly not double teaming anyone.

If there is any effort at all, it is not a big effort. It may be the workings of a couple of commanders if there is anything, but there is nothing that I am aware of as a guild leader on Blackgate personally. We queue every map during NA prime and I know I watch our big blobs taking Dragonbrands stuff just as much as I see them taking TC stuff.

You had 3 years of this game without needing to spend more than the $50 or less you spent when you got it. Yes, getting HoT does give you an advantage over the people who don’t have it for things like PvP and WvW.

What you need to realize is that Arenanet is a company that has to make money to stay in business, things like expansion help them keep the servers up and keep paying their employees. Either get the expansion and enjoy the new content or don’t get it and don’t enjoy it lol.

The way I see it is this, if you buy a brand new car 3 years ago, then they come out with a new model that has a million more features this year, why do you feel entitled to get those million features added to your car for no cost? You won’t get it, dealer will laugh at you.

I’ve personally bought the ones I’ve had or got them as drops or luck from mystic forge. The “crafting” precursor thing is just too much PvE for me.

As for the guilds moving around, geez you guys act like you’re new to the game. A majority of the guilds in this dump have changed servers a number of times. All of them could be considered bandwagoners, traitors, etc. But you guys get your #tiff panties bunched up over one dude. Lol When he was on YB (before they slowly divided their guilds across T1) it wasn’t even as bad as you guys claim.

Pretty much all of that. I’m on BG, only reason I went to BG is because roaming was super dead in every tier except tier 1. I like it there, but I’m not going to pretend I have any loyalty to any server – if stuff gets boring, I’ll transfer again some day lol. I’ve transferred 16 times (I think? Maybe more) between my 2 accounts. Transferring guilds happens a lot, people just need to realize that lol.

That said, in NA, the server tiers have been shaken up greatly and I’m loving seeing different servers to fight more often. I’m on Blackgate and we’ve been fighting Jade Quarry and Yaks bend for god knows how long, now we’re getting Dragonbrand and TC in the mix too. It has been a lot of fun seeing some different servers without having to transfer around.

JQ yes, but Yaks hasn’t been in T1 that long compared to the other traditional T1 servers. Six months at the most maybe ?

Since the servers have been mashed together, I don’t think there is any good way to tell how long unless someone remembers. If I remember correctly, they were tier 1 pre-HoT. I could be wrong – but even 6 months is a large period of time. Maybe not nearly as large as JQ and BG have been in t1, but its still a welcomed change to see things change up.

I can’t speak to what happened in EU, but I can speak to what happened in NA since I have 2 accounts on two different NA servers. Both of which had MASSIVE population spikes when Alpine returned.

Yes, numbers did start rising with the April 19th patch, but it wasn’t because they improved DBL at all, it was because everyone heard “Alpine returning SOON™” from the devs and wanted to get back to the game to brush their rust off for the Alpine return. In that time, so many people in map chat were complaining about how garbage the map was that were returning to the game (at least in the servers I was playing in) and how they were excited about Alpine return.

Sorry to break it to you, but if ANet had said “Alpine isn’t coming back” – people would not have returned. My guild included.

These are very similar to the queues we had in tier 1 and tier 2 pre-HoT release. I don’t suspect that the queues will die down, but I imagine ANet probably will be the judge of that in the next month or so.

I doubt they’ll give any kind of rotation schedule any time soon or even rotate any time soon since they had to deal with a major uproar of the majority of their players hating DBL and leaving the game because of it lol.

Go to Edge of the Mists and zerg around. You’ll rack up a ton of badges in no time.

Well traditionally, they would not have had enough glicko points to have been able to jump in to a t1 match. So with them shaking things up, they actually get a chance to compete in tier 1 against each other to see what would happen.

I think that the problem with playing 2 alpine 1 desert is that people who don’t actually want to play desert are still going to be stuck with it since it’ll have to lowest queues or none at all.

With the server linking, the higher tier servers (t1 and t2) experience a lot of high queues in prime time due to there not being enough maps but plenty of players. Throwing in a few more maps for people might solve that issue.

Thank you for voicing your opinion. Now, I’ve been playing for a while, and if I remember correctly, people were asking for new maps before HoT, and now that we got one, I don’t think it’s such a good idea to get rid of it completely. A rotation seems to be a fair trade between conservatives like yourself and people wanting more diversity.

You’re correct. People were asking for new maps, I was one of many who wanted them to leave it alone lol. I still don’t really understand why people wanted new maps personally. Alpine was is very well designed for WvW in my opinion.

What they should really do is make it to where instead of having 4 total maps, they should bump it up to 6 or 7 maps. Not making it “Blackgate Borderlands, Tarnished Coast Borderlands, Dragonbrand Borderlands, etc.” – it should just be colored maps. Red borderland, Blue borderland, Green borderland, Purple borderland, Yellow, etc – you get the idea.

Have 3 maps be alpine, 3 desert, 1 EBG. Tada – problem solved, people get both maps, we have less fighting to get in to maps due to queues, all is well.

Alpine BL – Forever.
Deserted BL – Never.

Voted. 9pm EST would be a million times better for me and my guild since we’re mostly EST players. We’re usually ending our WvW runs around 10:30pm-11pm most nights, so by the time we get through reset, (since its always late) it usually ends up 10:15pm EST before we actually get in from reset, then we have 45 minutes or reset time before people are tired and done playing.

Would be VERY nice to get this moved to 9pm EST.

Post patch we didn’t have queues like this. EBG queue would get up to 200+ people, other maps queues were very low if any most of the time, the only one I really ever saw much of a queue in was our home map. I mean, when people are given the option to sit in EBG queue or play the game in a crappy map until their EBG queue pops, that is what they do lol.

And really, ET didn’t bring much to the table, that whole servers active player base could not queue half of 1 map if they were all on at the same time. I rarely even see players from ET in WvW.

I get plenty of fights roaming in the borderlands. I’m so sick of EBG since its all that was viable to play on for the past 7 months. Roaming on Alpine again has been some fresh air back in to the game.

Not sure what server or time zone you play in, but in NA prime on Blackgate, all 4 maps are queued with 30+ people in each queue. Even at 1PM EST yesterday when I logged in, Blackgate had all 4 maps queued with 5-20 people in each queue. This was NOT the case when desert maps were in play, not even close.

I’m a guild leader on Blackgate – I can tell you right now that there is no such thing as a 2v1 in this match. Stop crying because you’re losing. In fact, I spent most of my night last night on Dragonbrand BL taking their stuff.
