Extra rewards for HoT Ultimate players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Haha SP is up to his tricks again I see.

The only thing I think would even be close to viable is a special title for Ultimate buyers. It has almost no real in game value but it does show that we went the extra mile to support the game. That aside, the $50 dollars of gems for $25 is what we go for buying in.

That said, the package will stay the same and I have no problem with that. I bought the Ultimate edition based on what was advertised and have no real expectations of anything more.

Please stop having a go at people who are going to wait until more info is given regarding HoT.

By far the silliest thing I’ve heard is people paying for it now, but we don’t make fun of you or have a go at you!

But there you are making a judgment of people that pre-purchased while asking people not to judge you for passing on the pre-purchase. Even your thread title is “having a go” at people that pre-purchased. I’ve seen more than my fair share of comments and threads criticizing people for pre-purchasing. It goes both ways. What it boils down to is, don’t tell me what to do with my money and I won’t tell you what to do with yours. Fair enough?

Yes. Just make sure you buy it through the website and not through the in game gems store. When you buy it you will be emailed the serial code with instructions. You can then email that code to your gift recipient who can then register it to their account or create a new account if they wish. Just make sure you don’t register it yourself when you receive the code.

Here is a quick blurb in the FAQ that discusses buying for someone else and making sure you do so through the website:

so if you’re buying Heart of Thorns for someone else, you’ll want to use buy.guildwars2.com instead.

glider skin? (used w no effect)

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Yes, it is fine to click and consume the glider item. Anet has stated it will be available as a skin during beta and when HoT is released. I can’t find the direct quote right now because the forum is slow but someone that did the same thing posted a response from a dev in game stating it would not be a problem. Think of it as an account unlock like your normal wardrobe items. It just won’t be visible until beta and Hot goes live.

As for the suggestion to contact support for a character restore, Anet has stated they cannot restore individual characters as they do not have to tools to do so. They will also not roll back accounts due to character deletions. They only do roll backs for accounts that have been hacked.

Edit here is the post I was referring to:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Glider-Skin-where-did-it-go/first#post5166146

Also I don’t think you will need transmutation charges for the glider skin. It reads to me that it will be like minis, finishers, and mail carriers where it is unlocked for your account and you choose the one you want to use.

Are all of the games players so crude?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

Most people are not like that in game most of the time. Unfortunately HoT is indeed a hot topic right now with a lot of people becoming, in my opinion, a little too angry over it. There are people that are just unhappy with the way HoT was pre-released and express their displeasure in a mature and constructive manner and then there are people that just want to scream at anyone and everyone about it.

Let it go and just ignore the people that can’t express their displeasure in a mature manner. In a while it will all subside.

Welcome to the game and happy adventuring.

New players buying HoT

Yes, they can start playing the core game immediately. When purchasing GW2 (HoT) the person is basically buying an account. Once the account is registered with the serial code provided they can go to the “My Account” page and download the game. As HoT comes with the core game for new players they can start playing once the game is downloaded.

https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/94582027-Heart-of-Thorns-Pre-Purchase-FAQ

Can I pre-purchase through my favorite retailer?

Yes. Starting on June 23, 2015, you’ll be able to pre-purchase boxed and digital editions of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns from our official retail partners. You may also be able to pre-order through retailers, but there is no official pre-order program and pre-purchasing is the only way to receive the benefits of our pre-purchase program, including access to all of the Beta Weekend Events.

Note that the Ultimate edition is only available for purchase in-game and via buy.guildwars2.com. Additionally, there won’t be an option to upgrade to the Ultimate edition later if you decide to purchase the Standard or Deluxe edition.

Actually, you can still buy the core game for $39.99 by clicking on the shopping cart with no HoT Pre-purchase selected.

But, yes, anyone that pre-purchases HoT can play the core game right away. =)

When I go to the “Buy Guild Wars 2” link I see no options anywhere to buy only the core game. Everything leads to the HoT version. It must be hidden well because I just looked all over. When I click the shopping cart it just says the cart is empty with a link to continue shopping, clicking that link goes back to the HoT page.

Yes, because when you buy the game you are really just buying the account, in this case an account that includes access to the core game, and HoT when it is released. Once they receive their serial code and register their account they can go to the “My Account” page and download the game. I honestly don’t think Anet would market an item to potential new customers that they can’t play right away. Customers can’t even buy the core game alone anymore directly from Anet.

Guild Halls for the little people too?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

JustTrogdor.7892

There is no answer to this yet. The live stream last night showed what appeared to be a fairly large size group event for the fight to claim the guild hall. However, that doesn’t mean there may not be some sort of scaling but no other details have been provided at this time.

I’ll probably just pay a bunch of people gold to temp join my personal guild to do the fight so I can have my own place. That said, it appears they are getting rid of influence and replacing it with favors that are achieved through guild events. So a small guild may have a hard time earning what is needed to upgrade the guild hall.

The Ultimate edition of the game includes all of the above in addition to 4,000 gems. The Ultimate edition will not be available as an upgrade and must be purchased as a full game package.

The wording makes me belive that the other options ARE available as an upgrade so where is the UPGRADE price not the expansion price…

They are talking about being able to upgrade from the standard edition of the x-pac to deluxe which can be done via gem store. However, players will not have to option to upgrade to the Ultimate edition.

What’s realistically stopping us from simply giving our current accounts to a friend while activating a brand new one with the HoT code?

I siphon all my gold and mats to the new account via a guild bank over the course of a couple weeks and voila, I’m not actually missing all that much, and the few account bound things left behind will at least be things my friends playing on my “buddy account” will get to enjoy.

There’s really no incentive to merge HoT into my current account.

Because it is against ToS to transfer an account to another person. The account would be subjected to being banned.

It is the wording on the sales page I think that is giving people to perception they are paying twice.

That is a dishonest accounting of the current situation. Read the megathreads and the several other individual threads to better understand it before you dismiss this out-of-hand as a “PR fail.” It’s much more than that.

I’ve been following most of the threads on this topic since the pre-order first went live last night. I’m well aware of people’s stances on the topic and the many misconceptions that have been posted. I stand by my earlier post in this thread as not only an honest account of why some people are up in arms but as also a valid opinion.

It is pretty clear on the sales page what you are getting with the Ultimate so I’m not sure what else you were expecting. You are basically getting the Deluxe version with all it’s perks and $50 worth of gems at half price. It is a great deal for people like me that buy gems often. I would have spent an extra $50 on gems sooner or later so to get them at half price is a nice deal.

Current players are not paying for the base game twice. They are paying for the expansion. New players are paying for the expansion and getting the base game for free to attract new customers. It is the wording on the sales page I think that is giving people to perception they are paying twice. I agree it is poorly worded. They should have stated something like, “Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns Expansion. Includes a free version of the core game for new customers.” People would still be here complaining but I think it would have cleared things up a bit.

HoT clarification

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: JustTrogdor.7892

JustTrogdor.7892

1. Does the purchase of HoT mean that I will be purchasing an additional account?

No. However it is a new account for new customers or people wishing to purchase it as a new account.

2. If one already has the core game, how will HoT be applied?

The process is explained here.
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/94582027-Heart-of-Thorns-Pre-Purchase-FAQ

3. Will HoT be available as a stand alone? (just the expansion without the core game)

It is for existing players, see answer to question 1.

4. Will the core game included in HoT be a new build in which HoT will operate on? And if so will I be able to update my current game to that new build in order to play HoT? (meaning I won’t have to re-install the core game included with HoT)

See above answers. The down low. Current players are purchasing the expansion only which is applied to their current account. When purchased you get a serial code that you apply to your current account which will then upgrade your account to HoT. Or you can purchase it through the in game gem store and it will automatically upgrade your account. New customers that buy the pre-order get the core game and the expansion.

I agree that there should be an option that doesnt include the core game for those who already have it. Maybe via the Black Lion Trading Company (gem store), since thats already a link to your existing profile. Make it so that you can only spend real money on it if you dont want it to be accessable through farming gold in-game.

That is already available. Go to the Gem Store, click the HoT pre-purchase icon, select the version you want, pay with real money, instant upgrade. That’s how I bought my Ultimate upgrade.

Question about exp and core game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

No. You either buy the expansion for your existing account or the core game with the expansion which would be a new account. People keep getting caught up on that core game language. If you are a new customer or wish to buy a new account with the expansion then you buy it and create a new account.

Something else:

“With a little gold to turn the wheels, the organization will give contracts to guilds to clear these areas of the jungle and, in return, will be able to own these areas as long – as they hold off further Mordrem threats.”
————————————————
Sooooo, if you don’t hold off Mordrem threats you’ll lose access to the area? Does this mean you’ll lose access to the guild hall unless the guild comes and clears the area again?
————————————————-
“Clearing these areas will be tied to the maps they are adjacent to—as the guild halls are physical places that exist on the world map—and the meta-events in those maps. Once a guild gets to the guild hall, they will enter an instance full of Mordrem, which they will need to clear. Once cleared, players will find a large crystal in the heart of the instance that, when interacted with, will essentially cut off Mordremoth’s influence. From that point the hall is theirs, and the guild can start rebuilding it.”

Anet has known for a long time that people hate having to pre-events to open dungeons. Yet this sounds exactly like that.

I watched the live stream and it looked like a one time event that a guild does to earn their guild hall space. I think it was even described as such. So it isn’t like every time someone wants to go to a guild hall they have to complete the event.

The “as long as they hold off further Mordrem threats” that’s bolded above makes me think it’s something you need to open by doing events.

Once again I’m going by what I saw on the live stream and what Colin stated as best as I can recall. If my memory is intact it is a one time event that then opens the guild hall forever once completed. The wording might seem odd but I am almost certain that is how it was stated and would not require ongoing battles to maintain the integrity of the guild hall.

Maybe the stream will be put up on Youtube in the next few days so I can validate that.

When I watched the live stream, as I recall, they stated once you claim the area for the guild hall it is there for good without any contest. It appears to be more or less a guild mission that has to be completed to claim the area for the hall. Once that is done there is no other battle involved.

You could always run the game through Bootcamp and use the PC version that way. Some people claim better performance via Bootcamp anyway.

Do you really think they want you using personal guilds for storage instead of buying more storage space from the gemshop?

Make the dog perform the trick before you give it a treat.

Back to your movie analogy. People purchase tickets to advanced screenings for big name releases all the time and well before they get reviewed on Rotten Tomatoes or what not. In fact those tickets usually sell for a premium far and above the standard box office price. When it comes to entertainment some people are willing to pay to take part early for the experience and simply based on anticipation of the product.

The pre-purchase is much like that. We get to play in beta and see it before anyone else. We are paying not only for the expansion but to get a first hand view of the entertainment before it goes live. Much like people that pay to go to early preview screenings at the movies.

If you don’t think it is worth it, that’s fair. Some of us do and we spend our money as we see fit.

Bought the Ultimate edition and will probably get it for my other accounts as well. I’m fine with it plus I get to participate in all the beta events from now until release. Please don’t tell me how to spend my money as I won’t tell you how to spend yours.

And what if it turns out that you don’t feel the expansion was worth it or up to par? You just got screwed out of 50+ bucks. I’m not trying to tell you that you can’t buy something, I’m telling you that buying something based off of carefully selected gameplay segments and demos is a bad idea.

Then I’ll shrug it off. It is a game and simply entertainment for me. My entertainment budget is fairly forgiving. I’m guessing I’ll get at least a few hundred hours of entertainment out of the expansion based on what I have seen. So even if I only play the expansion for 50 hours and I since I paid $100 for the Ultimate edition that is a cost of $2 an hour. There are not many forms of commercial entertainment that you can pay that little per hour.

Dueling as a Guild Hall Feature?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Dueling in guild halls? I’m all for it. It seems like a nice way to open up dueling for those that want it and keep it away from those that don’t care for it. Maybe that is what this means:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/get-a-first-look-at-guild-halls-at-the-e3-pc-gamingshow/

In this presentation, Colin will reveal how Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™ will create new ways for you and your guild to play, battle, socialize, and progress together through the guild hall system.

Looks like I might have been correct from what I saw during the live feed. You get a combat arena that looks like it might be for small scale 1v1 combat (read duels) and larger scale combat.
