Out of curiosity did they remove the character slot that came with Ultimate, and in which case you will get the free one that comes with all veteran pre-purchases when they send them out? Or are you just not getting the second character slot?
This jumping puzzle is just walk the tight ropes and make jumps that your character can only just reach. (Getting on top of some of those smokestacks is really cumbersome.) There is no skill really involved here.
If there is no skill involved then what are you complaining about? It should be a cake walk for you. 
Jumps where if you went short or long you’d be screwed.
Sounds like what you described above when you said this:

Having completed the puzzle I can tell you that there are many, many jumps if you jump too short or too long you fail.

You get screwed completly if you do the slightest mistake.
Like the Mad King Clock Tower and Winter Wonderland. They are much shorter but equally unforgiving but at least with this JP you get a chance to pause and look at what you need to do. That is what makes this new jump puzzle an elite jump puzzle. It isn’t for everyone. It takes persistance and patience. 10/10 will do again.

Part of the thing that really bugs me is that most of the times I fall in this jumping puzzle, it’s not due to a tricky jump or some kind of timing. It’s because I had to narrowly walk on this small ledge that my body barely fits on. Or I hit a spot that looks safe, but it makes me do the slide and momentum carries me off. Never feels like it was my fault, but just the imprecise physics screwing me over.
I have found for some of those narrow ledge walks it helps to go into first person view until you get around. They are all certainly doable and not based on imprecise physics. The major tip is to take your time with those tricky jumps/walks. It is just some of the jumps require you to jump from a certain spot and land on a very precise area. After trial and error you will learn to nail them every time. Also if you are jumping to an area and sliding off and falling you are jumping to the wrong spot. There are many people doing the JP right now so you can take advantage of that. If you get to an area where you are not sure wait a bit and see what others are doing.

Wait wait wait wait wait. You’re telling me that Anet is in fact exchanging the extra character slot for 800 Gems? Please tell me you’re not trolling, as I’m about to soil myself from happiness.
I have a ticket in process for the same thing. The last email I got was they need to send it to someone else for review. I updated the ticket with a link to the posts showing others have gotten 800 gems to replace the unwanted extra slot. I’ll update and post a screen cap of the email when I hear back.
In this case, as with the three other JPs with waypoints, as I recall the Metrica Province JP also does, it would not reduce the difficulty of the puzzle. The jumps would still be hard. They would still be just as hard as they were from the beginning. The difference in that failure wouldn’t mean the tedium doing it all from the beginning, it would just mean doing it from the last stash.
Which would make it less difficult. The major part of the new JP is there is little room for error and in the event of a major mistake you start over. If you got to a checkpoint and then made a mistake and went back to that checkpoint instead of having to start over and having to make those jumps all over again to get to that area, it would indeed be less difficult.
Sorry, but I am happy with the JP as it is. It is difficult and unforgiving. That gives me something to do while I wait for the beta weekends and for HoT. If they add checkpoints it will trivilaize the JP. “Okay I spent 15 minutes to get to checkpoint 1. Now I can be less cautious on that 5th jump because I can just go back to the checkpoint.” That is indeed a reduction in difficulty. Having to start all over if you fail to accomplish all the jumps again is part of the difficulty.

As others have stated, if you want to transfer to a full server you have to wait for times when someone else transfers off that server. There is no real exact time when that may happen. JQ is a very popular server because they are usually at the top for WvW. Given that not many people into WvW transfer out. With mega servers PvE only players may not transfer out often as server does not matter that much.
As you noted, you will just have to keep trying at different hours. That is the only way you will get into JQ or any of the other full servers.
Nope, no check points should be added, I ran it but it took a little over 2 hours of trial and error. If you are not willing to risk failing and starting over like many of us have done, too bad. Or you could just wait for the Dulfy guide.
It isn’t about guides, it about tedium. I totally get it now.
To be fair to the puzzle, there are a lot of areas where falling just means having to redo that specific part. But plenty of others mean a long trek followed by a repeat of a long puzzle.
I’m sorry you are not happy with the JP the way it is. However, I am and am glad it requires strating over if you make a mistake in some areas. That aspect makes it an elite JP. It isn’t for everyone and I like that fact. Hmm… seems like a thread I can recall where you were happy with the results that others were not. Funny how that works.
Let me quote you:

By that reasoning next thing you know people might be asking for waypoints, more saftey nets, easier paths as well as check points in the new JP.

Hi gang – I spent my gems that I received from ultimate edition before this change came in. They could not refund my money and allow me to purchase standard but they have removed the extra character slot and given me a further 800 gems. I’m ok with that I think!
I’m calling bull on this. For one, no they didn’t, they’re not going to, and they don’t really have a way to do this. Two, they haven’t given out the extra slot yet, so again, no they didn’t.
I just submitted a request for the same thing with a link to Jim’s post in the account forum where he claimed they fufilled his request. We’ll see what happens and I’ll report back with the results.

It will be visible during beta in the wardrobe panel, and available when HoT goes live. You can’t see it at the moment because we are not on HoT beta and you are still currently playing the core game without the HoT updates.
You mentioned your Internet is down via Comcast yet you have forum access. Perhaps you are posting via phone. If that is the case maybe you could use your phone to set up a hotspot long enough to log in and pruchase the wings. Just an idea.
Doubtful. One day items are one day items. I don’t think they will make exceptions for individuals based on the availablity to log into the game. Keep in mind like the black wings these are most likely preview items and will return at some point.

I noticed you posted in the thread I linked. I still suggest you update your ticket with support and include a screenshot if you can. You can update your ticket by responding to the last email they sent you. Note, do not submit another ticket as duplicate tickets slow response time significantly.
Just an update for those that purchased the Ultimate and are not pleased with the current situation. It does appear you can get a full refund and then choose to buy the Standard that comes with the character slot if you so choose.
Anet’s willingness to do this tells me they understand that the recent change was not favorable for everyone that purchased the Ultimate edition.

I suggest you contact support. Make sure you make it clear in your ticket you are a Mac customer. There is a drop down menu that allows you to select your OS but I’d suggest mentioning it in the text of the ticket as well. I suggest this because they once sent me instructions to install some .exe files even though I had told them I was on Mac. 
I’ve had this happen on and off as well. For me I’ve gone to activity monitor and forced quit and either logged out as user then back in or restarted. This normally fixes it for me.
Stand directly under the ledge and aim up. There is a picture on Dulfy. It took me a few minutes, waiting for when no one else was around so I could see, and several shots but I finally got it. Prior to that I tried for like 15 minutes standing back trying to hit it when it jumped with no luck.
Here is the picture, but as I recall I aimed a little more up and to the right and after several shots in a row finally got it.

I did it first try. On that first drop aim between the middle stalagmite and the one to the left then steer your drop to the middle of the water like usual. After that the rest is the same.

You can delete all your characters and transfer for free. Just make sure you place everything you want to keep in your bank first. All items in your bank, wallet, wardrobe and achievements will transfer with you.

I’ve been a bit displeased with other purchases and returned them. I wasn’t upset but I returned them due to that. As I said hopefully Anet sees the posts on this topic and considers something else. I’m sure it will surface again. You seem dedicated to having the last word or trying to get me riled up like you accused SP of so I’ll let you have it.
I have stated several times that I am not upset. A bit displeased but not upset. Maybe people should stop telling me how I feel or what my opinion on the issue should be. I believe that would be a fair agreement. 
I guess I have said all I have to say on the issue once again. Hopefully Anet will read this or our forum specialist will forward it to them.

I’m not upset at all. I never have been. I’m simply participating in a conversation on the issue and trying to discuss suggestions and options. This thread just happened to be the main one on the issue at hand as the others got buried or were mixed into mega threads. Should SP choose to laugh at me, I have no problem with that.
As a reminder, some regular posters to the forums enjoy posting provocative yet seemingly reasonable rants about things that don’t actual bother them, just to see the response(s).
Normally I would agree with you but this is an issue that has been brought up by several other people in various threads both here and the HoT forum.
So quit trying to weasel every little thing out of them and let it be.
I could have said the same thing about people that argued for character slots or gems or any of the other things people were demanding with the Standard edition, but I didn’t. We are having a discussion on the issue. One that I am trying to keep constructive and polite. We are not demanding anything, but some have suggested things. If the issue does not affect you then why should you be concerned about what we are talking about?

When purchased through he in game gem store you are automatically upgraded. The email you received should state that. Also you should see a beta character slot if you were not already in beta.
So if the people who played $75 or $100 for a $10 character slot get placated by Anet in the form of gems, then what about those people who bought the basic version who don’t need the extra slot, either? Do they get to fixate on the “unfairness” of this offering and poke at Anet until they get 800 gems (gems which can be traded for gold or used to purchase keys that can result in sellable items, thus impacting the exchange rate and the trading post as a whole)?
The difference is the extra character slot for the Standard edition is what most people were asking for. It is indeed a bonus for the people that bought it because what they paid for had nothing at all aside from the x-pac. They didn’t pay extra for anything else. They knew that going in if they bought it prior to today’s announcement. However, people that paid for the upgraded package paid extra for something that included a character slot. We knew that going in. Now we paid extra for something the people that purchase the Standard edition now get and receive something else that we may or may not need and wasn’t advertised as part of the package. I guarantee a lot of you in this thread, if you were in the shoes of the people that bought the upgraded versions would think of this differently.
Also no one is fixating on unfairness. As customers that paid top price for a product we are simply discussing options that would seem more favorable. Much like all the people that have spent the last 5 days arguing for a character slot with the Standard edition. Unfortunately, I don’t think the people that bought the upgraded editions and supported Anet when they went for sale have the numbers to make a change.

What version of GW2 do you currently have and when did you buy it? The Heroic chest was only sent to players that had old SKUs that Anet no longer uses.

Out of interest, had the new deal been in place from the beginning, giving you the HoT upgrade, 2x Character Slots, Mini, Finisher, Decoration, Glider Skin and 4000 gems for $99.99, would you not have bought it?
I’m not SP but I’ll respond. I probably would not have as the Standard edition now comes with an extra character slot. I have no need for a 2nd character slot so that would have been a factor in my decision. I didn’t buy the Ultimate edition just for the extra slot, but it certainly added value to the product when it was released and was a significant factor in my decision to buy. A $10 (800 gems) value over the Standard edition in fact. Sure the 2nd character slot is also a $10 value but I have no need for it so it has zero value to me. It’s the same to me as if Anet said Deluxe/Ultimate customers get a second mini.
If after they announce the extra character slot has been delivered and you don’t receive one you can contact support for assistance.
They stated that the process of sending the extra character slot will take some time but didn’t provide a date. You should not need the extra slot to participate in beta as you will receive a special slot for that.
I know I said I was out of this thread. However, upon further consideration I’m going to wait a few days to see if Anet comes up with something for those of us that bought the Deluxe/Ultimate edition. If they don’t I suppose I will contact support and see if they can either refund the extra $50 I paid, remove the items/gems I received with the Ultimate edition, and convert me to the Standard edition or refund me completely and remove the upgrade. I don’t know if that will be possible though as I have already added the mini to my wardrobe. I suppose they could roll the account back but then I’d lose all progress I have made since I bought the Ultimate edition. Plus they generally only do rollbacks for hacked accounts.
The core game is provided free with HoT to new customers/accounts. It is intended to attract new business.

Well I’m going to bow out this thread. I was trying to keep it a constructive conversation for those that are affected by this. I’ll just leave it by saying I’m a bit displeased. I’m not angry and I don’t feel slapped in the face or anything like that. I’m sure I will survive. 
My suggestion would not be to give Deluxe/Ultimate customers more gems. I think a more reasonable idea is a special title aside from what the Standard customers receive. It has no real value in game.
Again I find this dynamic interesting. People that purchased the upgraded editions are having a very civil and polite discussion on the issue. While doing so, many of the people that were very vocal over the pre-purchase due to no character slot and got what they wanted are in here telling us to stop discussing the issue. Interesting.
I already have a key farm slot. I don’t need another but thanks for the suggestion.
This has been brought up several times in the main HoT thread posted by Gaile. She has not responded to any of those concerns that I have seen aside from stating that we will get a second character slot. I’m not exactly pleased with it as well as the character slot was part of the value of the Deluxe/Ultimate edition as the standard didn’t come with it. A second slot is of no value to me.
It’s kind of funny all the people that were up in arms over the initial pre-purchase that now got what they wanted, a free character slot, and now acting hostile towards those that purchased the upgraded version and would like to discuss some other option.

Yes you can as long as you don’t try to do it through the in game gem store. If you buy it through the online web store you will receive the serial number in an email with instructions on how to register. You can then send that email to your friend and allow him to register the upgrade.
