Anet has stated there will be no collectors edition. The current editions available now are the only ones they are going to offer.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Boxed-Editions/first#post5156159
I’d like to echo the concern others who have purchased the deluxe/ultimate edition expressed. One of the reasons I purchased the upgraded edition was because is came with a character slot. A second slot is really of no value to me. I think it would be nice to consider some other type of item/reward for the people that bought those editions. I’m not trying to be greedy or entitled. It just seems for those of us that were willing to buy the upgraded editions from the start an other option aside from a second character slot would be nice. Thank you for listening to my concerns.
They have had issues with other games doing this as well. Here is what Gaile from Anet requests if you run across such things:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Has-anyone-noticed/first#post4612902
If you could kindly post a direct link to the ad — not to where the ad leads but to the ad itself — we can investigate.

There is already an upvote system by clicking the +1. I think it is kind of busted now as well though because it used to show a thumbs up when a certain amount of people clicked the +1 but I have not seen that in a while so I think it is broken as well.
As for the broken search function that is addressed in my earlier post with the link.
The tl;dr is Anet no longer has a working relationship with the contractor that developed this forum. They can’t fix it on their own but are considering other options for forum software at some point.
Glad you found your stuff. Just a heads up since you bought it from Amazon. The expansion is currently in pre-purchase. So, the sort of bad news is if you want that as well you will have to pay for it. Currently, GW2 is offering the expansion pre-purchase which comes with the core game for free for new accounts. Due to this the GW2 website no longer sells the Heroic edition stand alone.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
All in game rewards should have been sent to you via the in game mail system. Out of curiosity, did you buy the Heroic edition from a retailer outside of the GW2 online store, or did you buy GW2 via the GW2 online store?
I guess in the event of a major problem they would not be able to fix it or whould have to find/hire someone that could. This is the post from Anet regarding the issue:
There are several player hosted events listed in the In-game Events forum that you might find entertaining.
You can only link your GW1 account with your GW2 account. I have not seen any red posts suggesting the ability to link two GW2 accounts will ever be an option.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
Yes, starting on June 23rd, from authorized retailers. =)
(Note: The Ultimate edition is only available through ArenaNet – in-game or from buy.guildwars2.com)
Good luck.
Where are you getting your information? It’s been confirmed that there will be no versions of HoT beyond what is offered.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Boxed-Editions
That red post is referring specifically to the Ultimate version and also the question of a collectors edition. It states there will be no boxed version of the Ultimate edition and no other editions available beyond the currently available, meaning there will not be a collectors edition that the OP asked about.
If you read the FAQ linked in the red post it states there will be a boxed and digital editions of HoT available through retailers, but not the Ultimate edition:
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/94582027-Heart-of-Thorns-Pre-Purchase-FAQ
Can I pre-purchase through my favorite retailer?
Yes. Starting on June 23, 2015, you’ll be able to pre-purchase boxed and digital editions of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns from our official retail partners.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
Because there was a bug that gave people HoM rewards that didn’t earn them. They are still working on the fix and claim it will be soon. Here is the last red post on the issue:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Any-Updates-On-HOM-I-NEED-MY-REWARDS/first#post5125458
Why did you make a new post to basically link to the post you just made several minutes ago?
You need to go through the whole serial upgrade. Take it slow, it saids it all there. When you get to the part you upgrade. It lists all you get. I honestly saw bag upgrade, unlimited tool set, etc.
Unlimited gathering tools have never been a part of any edition and are not a part of any expansion upgrade edition. If you have a screen shot or source please share it as something must have changed very very recently without being documented.
The most recent core game before the expansion pre-purchase, the heroic edition, came with a suit of legacy armor, a mithril box, and 10 XP boosters. As IC stated, new players/new accounts probably receive those items listed as they were included in the most recent core game.
I upgraded from the basic edition pre-heroic to the Ultimate upgrade and received the items that come with the Ultimate edition as listed on the website. Nothing more, nothing less.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
Well you can buy a new account and get both. Of course you will have to start all over as it won’t have all the achievements, items, and currency that you have accumulated over those years of playing. New players don’t have those 2 years of entertainment you received from the game either.
This my last post on this as I have stated the main discussion on this is in the HoT forum you will find many likeminded players there as well as others that disagree with your stance.
Good luck.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
Because, as I stated the core game is added for free for new customers.
I do agree the wording should have been more clear though. It should have stated something like, “Core game included free for new customers.” Again there is plenty of discussion on this issue in the Hot forum for your reading pleasure.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
No, the core game is included free for new customers/accounts. Existing players only get the expansion.
There are plenty of discussions on this in the HoT forum if you wish to read more about it.
It doesn’t cost anything to start playing again. Why not just log in and have a look around to see if there are things you still enjoy doing or might find enjoyable?
E-mail authentication is there to help protect your account. It may be frustrating at first but once it learns your IP range it won’t be as much of an issue. However, you can contact support, which you have already done to remove it, but I would not suggest it. This forum has countless posts from people that have had their accounts hacked. If you are willing to disable that extra layer of security it’s your call tough.
The only thing the Ultimate Edition offers is a discount on gems. That’s it.
No physical items, and nothing new compared to the Deluxe Edition. Only a fool would buy it over the Deluxe version.
Well, I don’t know about being a fool for buying it. Take me for example. I buy gems regularly. So my justification for buying it over the Deluxe edition was that I received $50 of gems I would have purchased anyway for half price, $25. That seems like a wise choice to someone like myself and others that buy gems. I’d say if you ever think you are going to buy gems then it is foolish not to purchase the Ultimate version over Deluxe since I don’t think I have ever seen gems go on sale.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
I was never questioning that part of your post.
Hmm I don’t know if that applies anymore for people that have upgraded. I’m familiar with why people received those items via the previous betas due to replacing inactive SKUs. However, like I said in my case, I had a version with the no longer used SKU. Now that I have upgraded to HoT as far as I am aware I now am running a currently active SKU. In other words I no longer have an inactive SKU for them to have to change to an active one. I guess we will see after the next beta.
Veterans, depending on when they first purchased the game may not have a Heroic edition yet, though everyone…eventually…will end up with the Heroic edition (and the bonuses that edition includes), as the SKUs no longer support the old, original edition.
I have not seen where Anet stated that. I may have over looked in it in the mess the forums have been over the last few days. Can you link me the source where everyone who had the old SKUs will get it in the future so I can reference it if someone else asks.
I upgraded my base game (old SKU pre-heroic) and didn’t receive any of the Heroic items. As far as I know I now am running under the new HoT SKU, so I’m wondering if I will get those items eventually.
These scam mails are usually sent by other accounts that have been stolen. So it is more than likely not due to someone that is mad at you.
If it is in one of the archived forums listed here, then yes you have to be logged in to view it:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Archive-Changes-on-January-20/first#post4694486
As far as I can tell all archived forums and threads are available to everyone logged in.
That may be something Anet cannot directly control. It would have to be something that is available from their payment processor Digital River.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
As far as I know they need to go to register.guildwars2.com. If they have an existing account they want to upgrade then select “Already have an account? Sign In” and click the sign in link. Then there is a link to add a code. IMPORTANT, they need to make sure they click the sign in link and not register via the form on the front register page as that will create a new account.
Disclaimer: I upgraded through the gem store so didn’t have to do this but this is what I read in another thread. However I’m pretty sure the instructions were sent via email with second key you purchased.
Edit: I found the link where someone posted the instructions that are sent via email.

Players will not be banned for using macros to play music.
Just a note, HoT will not have a physical copy. It only comes in digital, so if you buy something physical it will not have HoT.
Yes it will as of June 23rd according the the FAQ:
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/94582027-Heart-of-Thorns-Pre-Purchase-FAQ
Yes. Starting on June 23, 2015, you’ll be able to pre-purchase boxed and digital editions of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns from our official retail partners.
However, the Ultimate edition will not be available as a physical purchase.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
They are not planning to release a boxed Ultimate edition.
FTFY
From the very FAQ you linked:
Can I pre-purchase through my favorite retailer?
Yes. Starting on June 23, 2015, you’ll be able to pre-purchase boxed and digital editions of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns from our official retail partners
The red post you quoted was an answer to someone asking if there would be a collectors edition.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
Also you make me crazy confused now: ‘only available tru our website’? Wtf next week there should be boxed true certified retailers. Are you telling me i won’t be able to buy HoT PHYSICAL box in my shop (certified) next week?
That is not what he is saying at all. He stated, “currently”, meaning right now or at the moment, the only official way to buy HoT is through the GW2 web store or in game gem store. That doesn’t mean they boxed versions won’t be available in the future (it was announced in the FAQ June 23rd) through retail stores.
There are a number of scam sites out there selling HoT keys right now. That is what he is referring to.
I got a similar in-game mail today…
What seems weird to me is that the link I have to use to validate is to: “http://account.guildwars2.com…”
I don’t understand how this can be a scamm?
Look at the end of that URL. It goes to a .PW domain. Do you really think Anet would use a .PW domain? Report it and delete it.
If you want to buy it for someone else you have to buy it through buy.guildwars2.com or some other authorized retailer. When you buy it from the GW2 website you will receive an email with the serial code and instructions. You can then send that to your friend to use. Do not register it yourself, let your friend do it. Do not buy it through the in game gem store as that automatically updates your account and you will not be able to gift it. If you have already upgraded yourself I don’t think you will have that option anyway.

Another employee thread.
I’m happy you all are satisfied with your purchase
I’m not an Anet employee and never will be. I’m happily self-employed. However, thanks for understanding that I’m pleased with my purchase.

I think the bigger issue will be those vanity items to be honest. If the OP added the mini, for example, to their account, that might be all it takes to say no.
Someone said they already added the new mini to their wardrobe. Didn’t think you could, but he said otherwise.
Yes the mini can be added to the wardrobe. I added mine as soon as I got it.
Another issue is if the Gems from Ultimate were spent. For example if someone bought Ultimate, got their 4k Gems, converted all or some to gold, spent some of that gold on TP items, that would cause a huge problem that I bet CS could not reverse via refund.

I bought the Ultimate an hour after it went live. I’ll probably buy it for my second account as well.
The Ultimate edition will not be available via physical copy:
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/94582027-Heart-of-Thorns-Pre-Purchase-FAQ
Note that the Ultimate edition is only available for purchase in-game and via buy.guildwars2.com. Additionally, there won’t be an option to upgrade to the Ultimate edition later if you decide to purchase the Standard or Deluxe edition.
You will be able to buy Standard or Deluxe through retailers June 23rd. From the same link above:
Can I pre-purchase through my favorite retailer?
Yes. Starting on June 23, 2015, you’ll be able to pre-purchase boxed and digital editions of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns from our official retail partners. You may also be able to pre-order through retailers, but there is no official pre-order program and pre-purchasing is the only way to receive the benefits of our pre-purchase program, including access to all of the Beta Weekend Events.
Also note, there is no option to upgrade to the Ultimate version if you buy Standard or Deluxe.

but the guild has war room…
True but I’m guessing the days of free server transfers are over with the exception of the possibility to transfer to low tier servers. Otherwise there would be a flood of people trying to transfer for free to the higher tier servers and making the low tier servers a ghost town in WvW.
To be honest I’m not even sure what the war room does yet. It only says this:
Fourth is the war room, which is associated with WvW. You’ll be able to unlock scribing recipes here for use in the updated guild claiming system.
To me it sounds like it has to do with what was featured in the live stream about claiming keeps in WvW. So I think it would again be sever specific in WvW. That is if you are not in the same server and go into WvW it won’t apply to you. However all the non-WvW related benefits of being in the guild will.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
Only time will tell. There has been no announcement of such an offer. I doubt it though since guilds are no longer dependent upon servers aside from WvW.

I’m secretly hoping the price will drop by then. Maybe there’s a $10 premium on there for beta access, which I wouldn’t be able to take advantage of anyway. I’ve been invited to the betas before but they never fit my schedule.
I seriously doubt it will. Too many people have already purchased the product. That would open up an entire new can of worms. The price might drop eventually, but I doubt anytime between now and say 6 months after HoT goes live depending on sales.

I’m not saying that I won’t purchase HoT. I will definitely 100% be playing HoT when it’s released.
I just don’t feel comfortable with my pre-purchase, anymore.
So you are 100% you are going to buy HoT when it is released. You bought HoT before it is released but you will have it when it is released. So if you are 100% sure then I don’t see the problem. You bought something you just said you were 100% sure you were going to buy anyway. You just don’t get to use it yet aside from beta.

Also if you have spent any of the gems you received from the Ultimate edition that may complicate things further. But as others have stated this is between you and support. No one else can solve this for you.
Money doesn’t have more value to you? :/
It does to a certain extent. I’ve worked hard to put my self in a place where I have a certain amount of money that I can easily afford to spend without worry.
You and others don’t want to pre-purchase and that is fine with me. It is your money and clearly the value isn’t there for you. For others it is. Anyway, I’m tired of this. I’ll let you have the last word.
Neither am I. I just think that eagerness to spend lots of money on a product that is under hot debate at the moment, is not a virtue. You may end up being completely happy with your purchase, and I hope that you are.
I never said it was a virtue to pre-purchase. In fact it is simply a luxury. Even if HoT is a flaming pile of garbage that I only get 20-30 hours of play out of I won’t have any regrets.
If you take a gamble and pay the price of a full game, for an expansion of which the size is still very unclear…. then yeah, I’m guilty of judging you. I don’t think that is a very wise purchase.
I am willing to bet in the last year you have probably purchased things that if I knew about it I would think, “what a waste of money.” I’d probably never tell you that though unless we were close friends. You can judge my purchase all you want, but the value of my purchase is only dependent on my own impression. I bought the Ultimate edition, I’m happy with it. I get to participate in all betas (that was factored into my decision), I got some extra goodies and basically $50 of gems I would have purchased anyway for $25 dollars (deluxe is $75). Judge away, but I’ll never try to tell you how to spend your money.
And some of us can afford it just fine, but choose to spend their money wisely. We don’t all pay for overpriced things, but of course some people do. Good for you.
But see there you are judging me and my purchase when I have never once judged you or anyone else for waiting for more information to purchase the expansion. I do spend my money wisely which is why I can afford to, I guess in your mind, “take a gamble” on what I am buying.
Fair enough but you will probably have to wait another 2-3 years to play it. Meanwhile the rest of us will be enjoying it. See you in HoT in 2-3 years.
You mean you get to playtest it for us. Since ANet fixes the gemstore first and always, the environments will no doubt be full of bugged quests.
I’d rather take my 50$ and play The Witcher 3 for a year, then grab HoT when it’s on sale for 10$.
Why on Earth would anyone slap down 50 bux for what is essentially an empty box with the GW2 logo on it?!
Because I can easily afford it and it means almost nothing to me to pay for it now. Entertainment value is subjective and I made the decision based on what I saw to purchase it. Others are more leery and want to wait and I respect that. I just bought Witcher 3 as well by the way. I have not fired it up yet though.
You’re going to pay for an empty box with the GW2 logo because the cost is nothing to you… well, you’re a good consumer, no one can criticize you on that field. Probably the ideal consumer. Lots of money. Not everyone else has as much money as you, so we have to think about what we buy.
I’ve seen the previews, read the blog posts, and have a decent idea what I am getting. I made my decision based on what Anet has revealed about HoT to date. Also, you will note, I have never criticized anyone for not buying the pre-order. My response to the OP was not critical. It was based on their post and the reality that if they want it for free with the next expansion they will have to wait 2-3 years. In that time, much like everyone that bought GW2 at launch, many of us will be playing the game and enjoying it over that time span.
Fair enough but you will probably have to wait another 2-3 years to play it. Meanwhile the rest of us will be enjoying it.
-Or, will be regretting how little expansion content you got for the price of a full game.
Which is why we wait till we have a reason to buy it, or the price drops.
Even if I only play it for 30-40 hours I won’t regret it (most of my PS4 games I might play for that long at the same price). See my post above. Also I was specifically responding to the OP who was saying wait for the next expansion to get it for free.
