No. That is not a possibility at this time. The point of the buff is to affect the WvW game mode as a whole disabling it on your character would lessen the value of the buff to a server and completely invalidate the whole point.
How about a WvW trap that strips the buff from anyone that triggers it, say for 30 minutes (preferably with more than a single trigger per trap, say 5 or 10, I have never used WvW traps so dunno how they actually work)-
Granted I can’t say I know much in terms of balance so this suggestion might create problems in other areas, however, I don’t see a problem in introducing a legit mechanic for the opposing side to combat the buff on a smaller scale (ie. rather than having to remove buff from all three maps by using the cap points allow neutralizing on case by case basis, for smaller group play, so to speak for a short time).
Thankfully the anti-stealth traps are used in moderation by most servers. So not game breaking by any means, as I too had originally feared. They actually if anything reigned in a lot of the “Zerker Thief” population and forced Thief players to evolve around complete reliance on stealth.
The supply traps on the other hand, are very useful as a meager anti-zerg measure. We’re getting off topic though…

Yeah but sPVP is terrible, which is why it’s failed spectacularly.
Also agreed. sPvP is “Country Club PvP” in comparison to WvW dueling. No holds barred, all stats and personal buffs in effect. If I go and shoot my mouth off to some hammer warrior with full Ascended trinkets, food and utility buffs, and a superior build, I fully expect to end up looking like something Gallagher would leave behind lol.

You know… People who think 150 extra attribute points are enough to eliminate skill as a factor, or even dilute it more than slightly, are completely blowing this out of proportion. It amounts to a 15% increase for a character that wears nothing, and far less for someone who’s actually equipped. It’s on the verge of completely negligible.
Seriously, if GvGers can’t figure out a way to adapt to something so miniscule on their own, then… well, I’ve severely overestimated them, to say the least.

Just reduce the new “orb” buff to giving points on stomps only. This will satisfy those playing for points and won’t affect fair dueling/GvG in the least.
And to those saying GvG is just a “few” players: On most servers, those doing GvG are also your most dedicated WvW players. You know, those who play day and night to gain your precious points.
Precisely. The whole point of GvG in WvW is to hone your large-scale combat skills. No different than Fight Clubs and Duels are to hone one’s individual skills. This isn’t anything new and they’re not going anywhere anytime soon. Directly because of this, the GvG/Dueling crowd is not only a significant portion of any given server’s WvW population, they’re usually amongst the most dedicated regular WvW participants within said servers. Thusly, doing anything that agitates and segregates that group from the remaining server community because they’re “not contributing” is a potentially costly mistake.

It would “completely invalidate the whole point”… Can I ask (in a non sarcastic way, I know the tone is a little heated in here) what that point is? What is the point, that necessitates a manditory buff. Why does the buff become worthless If there was the option to temporarily disable it? Surely the point is simply to give an advantage to your server, but if I wouldn’t begrudge someone if they wanted to disable the buff for a quick duel. I fail to see how that would “completely invalidate” the purpose of the buff. Maybe I’m missing something.
Points are king in normal WvW. Duels and GvG may be fun, but the main focus is the scoreboard over the course of the week. The buff gives a decent chunk of bonus stats, and extra points to your server when you stomp people. You take it off, you’re presumably killing less people (from the decreased stats), stomping less people, and getting your server less points.
tl;dr: If you were to manually strip the buff off of yourself you’d essentially be hurting your server’s chances of winning the match.
I had not touched on that issue myself. Personally I think we should be getting a small amount of points for spiking our opponents by default even without the buff. That’s something that should have been implemented ages ago. In my opinion this would be a huge advantage for both zergs and small man groups, but would REALLY make skilled roamers shine. Folks who are out there everyday picking off zerg tails and other small man units that zergs generally do not usually see or ever really have time to deviate from their objective courses to deal with. Folks who generally go out and kill more than they are being killed essentially.

people who dont want “fair fights” are the people who consistently lose in 1v1 situations or small groups. Hence they want their crutches to use and rely on, like ascended gear or buffs.
I used to 1v1 all the time but i stopped since all the balance changes were just screwing with everything and now ascended crap
After doing the math and investigative work, I’ve discovered the Ascended weapons overall are only adding about a 15% damage bonus over your standard Exotic weaponry. Which isn’t all that bad. It simply means I’ll have to be just that much better on my own. For me it’s just one more hurdle to overcome.
I don’t have an issue with gear. It’s this concept of an external source buff that irks me. If my gear is superior to that of my opponent it’s because I worked for it to be so. So it’s in no way unfair that I can defeat an opponent without Asended gear, because I put forth the time and effort for what I have and they did not.

Roamers benefit from the buff, fair fights are not intended in WvW.
The whole point in being a roamer is the desire to strive to improve oneself beyond the skill capabilities of the average puggle standing next to you. The desire to help one’s team scrape points, even when you stand absolutley alone. The thrill in running headlong into a 1v? and not expecting survive, but having reason to celebrate when you are the one left standing. If I come out on top it’s because my skill was superior, my build was superior, my gear was superior, (etc) to that of my opponent. This completely defeats all of that. It’s an external buff.
In short. No thank you, coach. I don’t want your “performance enhancers”…

Basically the lake is going, 5 new capture points are being added. Controlling 3 of them on a map gives you (wvw wide) a bonus to stats and each stomp = 1 point.
People want to disable the buff on themselves to prevent it messing with GVG’s, especially when trolls could use this to mess with matchups.

The orbs are something Anet likes to throw into the game every once in a awhile to remind their player-base that they don’t understand PvPers or PvP in general.
I see no elaboration on this or its function in the un-updated patch notes, nor the discussion forum.

First off, commanders aren’t chosen and you can have as many as you want on a map. And anyone can buy the commander tag for 100g.
True, but as it stands right now, it’s often the status quo for new Commanders or would-be Commanders to defer authority to more seasoned Commanders with greater history of success in leading. So yes, while everyone can simply buy the badge, it doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily have a decent following. Except maybe by pugs newer to the WvW scene who don’t know any better. One must prove oneself and build a reputation.
I actually support the idea of having multiple badges active on a map. All different in appearance based on the activity that Commander’s group is performing. Maybe I don’t wanna karma train today. Maybe I wanna keep tabs on that other Commander whom I’m across the other side of the map from and we’re coordinating simultaneous solo-camp steals.

They won’t tank this match. They couldn’t stand to just let us win lol. After all this time, I get word they’re still sore at us from the 13 Week War. Now they know how we felt though, when we dropped down into Tier 5 that fateful first week. Tired, looking to do little more than chillax. Keep it casual.
Now that they’ve had that glimpse, I can only hope we understand one another better. May we both meet back on level ground at Tier 5 again sometime… The higher Tiers are for kittens lol.

This is something I’ve seen lacking against SoS and EB. Even when numbers are even or you guys have a clear numbers advantage there’s too much turtling. Running in keeps/towers and building defensive siege. Not enough open field imo, which made this week super boring.
I hate to pull the tired old numbers card, but I know during my usual time we’ve been lucky to get maybe a dozen folks on the field. We’re doing the best we can with what we got at that point lol.

Encountered this in World 1 Zone 2 of Super Adventure Box. Difficulty was set to normal mode. I do note that the “lava” did not do damage, and was strictly a visual effect. So really not a huge deal, just putting it out there.

I lament they’re putting out new content too fast, actually. I don’t mean to sound ungrateful in any fashion, by any means. We’ve had back to back events for a while now. Pretty much ever since Southsun. I’ve only got about four to five hours daily on average that I can spend meandering about in my current favorite MMO. The majority of that I typically spend collecting whatever it is I need for daily, which is usually achieved in my preferred pond, World verses World. I simply don’t often have the time to devote too much attention elsewhere, and certainly not to juggle all these things bidding for my attention at the same time, month after month.
In short, Anet… let me play the game lol. Take a breather once in a while, and let us do the same.
Now for the good part, thanks for returning SAB to us so soon! I cried the first time I saw it last April. Actual literal tears of nostalgic overload, lol. Granted, I know some of that emotional instability was no doubt down to all the mental and physical imbalance brought on by just having had my daughter the week or so prior to SAB’s original release, but still…
I even considered making her middle name “Moto”… for all of about three seconds. XD

Yeah. This is REALLY bad for WvW. Once Ascended armors come, those without Ascended gear will be way behind.
We’ll just have to wait and see what they look like stat-wise. If they’re anything like Legendaries though, the current thought on those in WvW is, “Oh look, it’s a PvE nub…” followed by a lot of flailing and an eventual ganking.

The thread title speaks for itself. It began as a complaint thread for those of us like myself, who could not beat Liadri due to inability or disability. Those like myself (disability in my case: refer to former posts), and it’s still a HUGE amount of the player base. I personally, know of at least 4 people who had to resort to paying, bribing, bargaining, etc another player to complete it for them. Most of us had no issue with the difficulty itself, or even the achievement, it was all about the mini.
Keep waving that anti-entitlement flag… Waving an ingame material item in front of someone who can NEVER attain it on their own is wrong. Especially the disabled.

I honestly found it odd Riot Alice did not appear, nor have anything to say about the procedings in the Pavilion (or afterward). According to her, her father died in the collapse that claimed the former creative arts district (that is now the Pavilion). She later became disillusioned with the official story behind the collapse, and more notably the fact it was officially claimed that there were no casualties therein. I just find it odd there was no mention or appearance of her. I’m hoping we do see more of her. She has the makings of either hero or villain in future story archs and also I thought was very comedic in a quirky sense (being an anarchist conspiracy theorist and all).

1) No, we don’t do GvG. If I wanted to fight people in a enclosed space with enclosed terms, I’d play sPvP, which I do, and am very good at.
2) [scam] was not that big in EBay, and we’re moderately sized in SoS. We prefer it that was, quite honestly. Not more than 10-15 of us online at any given time so we’re good.

Understatement of the week… Can’t say it has been much fun. Utterly tired of coming home to 30+ or less every kittening day. Would be one thing if it was losses through teeth gnashing tug of war… but it’s not. It’s double or triple our numbers at our doorstep and fighting the inevitable each time. I’ll not touch much on the insult to injury portion, but frankly I found Mag and Yaks more cordial.

The senator, despite being extremely wealthy, has several spoiled demanding children, a wife that loves him only for his influence, and all the other bothersome nuances that come with maintaining that type of lifestyle. Man Ebay hates defending. They would rather chase 5 people around hills with 15 people than defend that hills.
Maybe if we ask nicely they can switch out with the Bay defense guys on their own BL. You need a prybar and a tub of grease to get them out of there in NA prime.

Meh, some of us take our tower defense pretty seriously. I know if I’m not solo roaming on my ranger, I tend to adopt a tower and stay there. Not a huge fan of large scale fights personally (or karma trains). It’s not out of my comfort zone or anything, it’s just chaotic and not my bag. Easier to kick back and sip morning tea inside my cozy walls, you know.
Having a tremendous amount of fun on mes. I’m quickly learning all the nuances of playing hide and port. You Kaineng folks have got to learn to sweep better. I’m only just learning and some of you have got me feeling like an old pro already. I’m getting overconfident quickly. Not to pick at or poke fun, but you folks aren’t Tier 1-2 anymore. Just don’t have the coverage to support the “cap n’ go” play style unless you’re just running karma trains. Which are another thing entirely.

Speaking of stacked odds, loved chasing those two SoS into Pangloss yesterday. Only to find that there were about eight to ten more inside already taking the camp. I probably should’ve known better, or at very least cared more, than to chase two people when it’s just me. Knowing somewhere in the back of my mind that the fact that they didn’t just turn on lil ol’ me was a red flag. Maybe I’m just a car chase loving dog who has suddenly discovered the existence of the interstate, who knows lol.
I swear that somewhere there’s a point when wading through enemy droves all by your lonesome that a blissful moment when the reality of the situation comes over you like a warm blanket… and you, for that briefest of instants, can haz snugglez. <3
