The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Seriously another break and more 2nd hand content? Whats up with that.
To make it more funny, i expect to get the next break directly after the final episode.
So break until January -> final episode -> break until march -> feature pack ->
break until June or July -> 4 episodes LS3 -> break until november -> 3 episodes LS3
They should start advertise all those breaks they make. It seems to be their main content for the game.

1) Is Trahearne in it?
2) Does it have legitimately good writing?
3) Does it involve interesting game mechanics?
4) Does it have an enticing story driven by genuinely well written characters?
5) Are the rewards fun? CAVEAT: I don’t want to pay for rewards… I want a good story first and foremost.
6) Is there an actual expansion with game content in the works?
7) Is it worth the money?
1. Trahearne is just a visitor, but he was still better written than any of the characters involved in season two. Did I hate Trahearne? Yes. He had personality though. Do I hate the season 2 characters? No. But the reason is, I do not care about them at all. If they all died tomorrow, I wouldn’t care. It is a result of really terrible character development.
2. The writing is as lame as the characters. It feels like it was done to give a reason to travel through the maps for moving from point A to B. It doesn’t give you the feeling that you are needed there, more like “hey you are done here, go there”. Pretty much like working off quest hubs in other MMOs. There is no real depth, no progression.
3. They went with the old-fashioned dungeon system of older MMOs now. Learn the mechnanics from the trash and use them at the boss. Unfortunately, that is fairly boring for a single player game. Everything becomes very predictable, which gets old fast.
4. As explained in 1. and 2. a clear “NOPE”. The story is so shallow that it hurts. The single episodes are extremly short, so there is actually very litte space to fit story in them, so that might be a reason too.
5. You still get a great amount of trash, which feels as rewarding as a getting a full dust bin for your birthday. At the end of the later episodes, you get a piece of armor only useful for visuals.
6. No official announcement for an expansion, so probably not in the next 12 monthes.
7. I would never pay money for what we got with the LS. But this is your choice.

Nice editing on the titel.
The question is now, why would anyone else care?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
It won’t get any more casual than GW2.
Maybe – just maybe – you should look for something more appropriate for your playstyle…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
The good part about a bad story is, that most people don’t care.
If people don’t care, scheduling is no longer of any importance.
You have to adapt to ANet’s mindset. In their company philosophy, they just created a perfect win/win situation!
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I wish I had a six week christmas break. Sounds awesome!
Congrats on all people working at ANet, enjoy your 1 1/2 monthes off!
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Why do those GW2 defenders always say critics should not talk in behalf of the community, but for them it is OK to use the broadest of all generalizations.
Seriously, look at the titel, you speak for EVERY SINGE PLAYER here?
Wow.

Condition are as much a dead horse as precursor crafting, the manifesto, mounts and expansions.
Just put that stick down already.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Look, even after the reorganization – which made all and everything part of the general discussion – this forum has hardly any movement.
With all those useless topics in general discussion, it now at least looks like people would still care a bit about this game.
Any less activity in here and new visitors might get the impression this game is dead…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Last year there was a six week break in the Living Story due to Winterday. This year it’s only four.
As the devs have pointed out, there is a schedule, set months in advance about when things are due so they can be released. The knowledge of when the Halloween and Winterday events are fixed to the calendar, other content has to be worked around them and their deliverable are scheduled accordingly.
It’s not like some guy is sitting in the server room with a pile of LS episodes ready to be released.
I do not know, other companies have updates ready weeks if not monthes ahead of release. They put them on a PTS for 2 weeks+ before going live. It is not like it is good business to get stuff done right before it has to be put on the live servers, as it will only cause burn out for your employees.
Bad time management, that is all it is.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
As far as the OP goes, i would much rather them not have to work overtime to crank out buggy content before the holidays.
You know, the same argument was given for the final of Season 1. Anyone remember the final episode, how it took them one week after releasing it to fix the most gamebreaking bugs.
What I see from ANet is just way too many excuses for not delivering what they advertise.
Great stuff is coming, they say. They just don’t say when for a reason. Because I am fairly convinced that a) they do not know when it will be done if ever or b) they are not even convinced that what they produce right now is great stuff.
Too little too late, as seems to be the whole philosophy of the content updates for GW2.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Sorry, but this is just very, very poor scheduling.
Doesn’t ANet work with time tables? Who in any meeting would have thought, that splitting up the LS again was a good idea?
It is hard to see the LS as season, if there are more and longer breaks in the season, than there are between other seasons, like on TV. Too random.
Work with a timeline, work with a scheduler, or hire someone who will actually coordinate things for kittens sake.
Well yeah, let’s throw some snowballs from last year for 4 weeks, that is really what your playerbase wants. Doesn’t feel like this whole Mordremoth story got streched out too much at all. C’mon.
We get more LS season 2 free periods than we actually get content. What is this a competition for minimalism? And who gets two weeks off for christmas anyways?

If temporary content becomes something else after it has run out its temporal limitation, it has two options:
1. Become permanent content.
2. End of existence, therefore no longer being content.
If option 2 is picked, there is no longer any content.
Some people here have a permanent problem in understanding the term temporary…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Read my posts. I stated that there was perement content and temporary content. Both are considered content.
If I get it right, you’ve got temporary money on your bank account, but if it reaches 0, you still have it since it’s money (even if it’s temporary).
So temporary is permanent because even if it’s invisible it still exists. Therefore permanent is permanent and temporary is temporary.
Makes total sense.
Wow lol
He is right though, your temporary content is worth NOTHING for this game. Not for new players that never experienced it, nor for veterans, as they cannot play it either anymore.
It is as useless as a infinite coin for SAB.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
I do not understand why ArenaNet are deliberately trying to kill this game!
Almost ZERO content has been added since release, and any content that is added is either finished within an hour or removed.I do not understand why you feel the need to deliberately post false statements!
If he’s going to argue that there’s no content, the least you could do is back up your response. Cause’ right now you’re going to lose this battle my friend.
Technically it’s up to the one stating there’s a lack of content to post their evidence as they’re the one who made the argument first.
My friend, you are not diving deep enough into this argument. Look forward not back.
Yeah… Still doesn’t change the fact that it’s not on him to provide the evidence. Arnath stated that almost zero content was added without provide any proof and mtpelion challenged it.
If you want, I can state that the state the Earth is flat, have you challenge this, and then say that you must prove me wrong.
You can’t prove that something doesn’t exist, how would you do that exactly? It is up to you to prove that there has been a substantial amount of content added.
Like this:
In the first 2 years of WoW Blizzard released:
8 new dungeons
5 new raids
10 new zones
1 new race
500+ quests
6 PvP maps
2 PvP modes
10 new levels
20+ new skills
50+ new talents
LFg system
Cross server system (first of its kind ever)
4 FestivalsWoW is considered the golden standard of MMO’s, your job would be to show that GW2 does indeed release a similar amount of content. (Hint: it doesn’t).
Ahh yes the old use a logical fallacy to end the argument when you lose….
Here I’ll start for you:
Number of zones added: 3*
New zones are 1/3 the size or smaller than original game zones
Number of new races: 0
Number of new classes: 0
Number of new legendary’s: 0
Number of new dungeons: 1
1 dungeon also removed
Number of new raids: 0
Number of new quests(DE’s): ~50
LFG Added
Fractals Added
New PvP modes: 1
Removed from rotation
New PvP maps: 3
One removed, one removed from rotation
Number of LS episodes: 29*
**22 removedNote: This was over 2.5 years as opposed to WoW’s Two years
Would you say that GW2 released a reasonable amount of content in those 2 years as compared to WoW?
Sorry but those items are not the definitive list of what counts as content. Those of us playing since release have experienced a wealth of content rather than the argued “almost zero”.
Wait.. hold up My friend. I’d like an explanation of what you define as “content”. I’ve been playing since release my friend, and I do not feel that there has been a wealth of content. Prove me wrong.
You know all of that which we did during season one? That was content. Content is more than just that list you posted. Whether permanent or temporary, content is still content. The Nightmare Tower, Scarlet’s Playhouse, Queen’s Pavillion, Assault on LA, and so on were all content. The story instances of season two were all content as well. The statement that there has been “almost zero” content is false.
I included all of those in the list under LS episodes.. Unless you are arguing that they weren’t removed… if so please point out where I can play them?
Woudl the contents of the feature packs be considered ‘content’? if so then they seem to be missing from your list.
They only count as content, if you think that content means getting kicked in the balls. Repeatedly. With a chair made of steel.
The feature patches are QoL patches, noone would count them as content, or the list of the other MMO would become – you know – like really long.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
“Wealth of content” is nearly as funny as “an expansion’s worth of content”!
State of the game at the end of 2014?
Pretty much the state of the game at the end of 2012. Two no tiny maps and some repeatable quests. Less frequent updates to the game than ever.
Sure, we are all satisfied with where we are heading. Wait, somehow I got the feeling we never started heading anywhere.

So 4 weeks instead of 6. I’d still say my educated guess was very educated anyway.
I think I fully understand now how ANet works internally. Which is sad.
Next time, I will sacrifice more kittens again, so we will get the updates faster, maybe a baby elephant too, so we can get an expansion.
What is sad? That Anet staff have a 2 weeks holiday to get back to their family before getting back on their 2 weeks schedule?
Haha, you must be kidding. The staff must had more vacation than work this year.
7 season 2 episodes (mini updates) in NINE monthes? Ok, ok, let me get this straight, less than a mini content update every month. While they still talk about a bi-weekly schedule for that.
Any less content, and they will have to take stuff out again. And don’t tell me the recycled wintersday is any kind of excuse, or recycled halloween.
The only thing worse than this is what we got with the so called feature patches…

I would love to have the option, that when you gain a level on a level 80 character, you could “save” this level for an alt instead of earning a skill point.
It would solve the “switching character at the end of the dungeon” thing, and you’d still have a choice.
It would only work with a level 80 character anyways, which is sort of proof, that you were able to level in the first place.I have no idea, why ANet has not yet implemented this idea.
Let me just say I love you’re idea! +100000
But Anet would never ever implement this system with their recent redesign of the leveling process. It’s clear to me they want people to level the old fashion way.
Then ANet is making a mistake. If I can level my other chars by playing my main, they will be sooner or later be 80.
- ANet wants people to play, if I could level my twinks by playing my main, I would play more
- if all slots are taken with lvl80s, I’d probably buy more character slots
- if I have more characters at 80, I would have more variety to play, which would make me play more
- if I have more characters I play, I would want to buy more outfits for them
.
.
.
There are countless reasons for ANet to implement this. I am just no longer in the mood to play the same old same or following the zerk in EotM for leveling.

In fact, bottled brandy won’t get any better over the years. If you are lucky it will just stay at the same quality. Same with water.
On the other hand, if I compare the amount of water I consume compared to brandy, the only logical answer is, that I prefer water.
What a weird comparsion is this anyway. Comparing a thing that is most important to your existence to a thing that makes you addicted? While I understand, that WoW can be as much as a drug as brandy, GW2 is not my base of existance.
This makes all no sense…

I agree, Behellagh. I think the term is overused and used poorly.
To try to address some of the comments about “white knights,” we’re looking for people who know the game, participate in the forums, and engage well with others. These qualities means they won’t have a “speckled history” of a large number of forum infractions, suspensions, or what-have-you’s. We look for decent writing skills and a genuine interest in helping other players and our dev team with this project.
As to “white knights,” they can be white, brown, purple, or fuchsia polka dot.
They can be male or female, any age above 18, and from any part of the country. A qualifier is not “Do they post only good stuff about the game?” but more “Do they express themselves clearly and fairly?”
I know we have a lot of forum members like that, and I hope they’ll consider helping out.
Look, and there you started the trouble.
If you check through the post history of the so labeled “white knights”, you can see a shift in posting policy by them.
While the one I have checked this morning was ultra defensive up to the announcement, he/she (no name-calling I know) is trying to sound indifferent with the comments posted after the announcement.
I don’t buy this. And neither should you. This person is not true, and will do everything to please ANet, which will neither help the game, nor the community.
If “white knights” – and I will be honest, it doesn’t matter if you see it this way or not, it only matters how the community sees it – will become “specialists”, the only taste it will have is that you are creating a defensive police force to guard your forums.
People will get more defensive when one of these “spectres” enter a thread, which will be poisonous for any communication.

I really had my best time with leveling my necro. It is straigth forward and strong in most situations. Use dagger as main hand and try to find out what else you prefer as off-hand. Warhorn or dagger, I never could really decide. Self-centered wells, as you are in melee range all the time anyway, no targeting needed.
Go with a power build, ignore conditions.
Leveling an Ele is OK, but I never really got connected to the class. Very flexible, very interesting, just not too much fun for me.
Mesmer has been my main since release. They look fun on paper, but leveling them is torment. If you left the game because you felt disconnected to the classes and want to come back now, I would avoid this profession, as it can be fairly frustrating.

I take it you’ve played literally nothing outside of a traditional MMO.
“Oh, so you think games are your ally? But you merely adopted the games. I was born in them, molded by them. I didn’t see the internet until I was already a man, by then to me it was only blinding. The games betray you because they belong to me.
Honestly, my first game has been asteroids on an arcade. I was hooked, and as soon as I could I bought my commodore C64. I have been playing games long before the internet has been invented, before “multiplayer” was a thing.
Over 30 years of gaming experience, I could write you a whole essay about the evolution of RPGs, the influx of early multiplayer and the whole development of MMOs.
Then you would understand, how games work, their limitations, the framework they give. Not in the mood though, it’s been a long day.
So for now, I will just say that I think people confuse in-character play with the term “role play”.
Funny for someone with such vast experience in video games you don’t know what an RPG is.
Some definitions:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Role-playing_game
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Role-playing_video_gameNotice that splitting “Roles” among group members is never given as an explanation to the “R” in RPGs. Maybe everyone else is wrong, and you are right, and that “R” in RPG means actually splitting roles among party members, but I honestly doubt it. Also, those kind of roles exist only in MMORPGs and not in other kind of RPGs, be it single player, tabletop or multiplayer (non MMORPG) games.
Oh and I don’t remember ever needing roles to play Dungeons and Dragons or any other tabletop RPG, or any other kind of RPG. The DnD 4th edition tried to put roles in the tabletop experience and failed, there is a reason fans of the franchise called it “MMORPG DnD”.
Did I need “roles” to play Neverwinter? (not the recent online, the older game) No I absolutely didn’t need roles, the game was playable and enjoyable in any combination of player characters because the focus of the game was the game itself, and not the end rewards.
How could you miss the “Then you would understand, how games work, their limitations, the framework they give” part?
Even in old Neverwinter games you had to create a character which defined your role. Like you decided to play a druid, you could no longer play the game as pregnant dolphin. You could not even roleplay a pregnant dolphin as a druid, because of the limitations of the game. In-character you were a druid. Done. Your role was to be a druid, whatever that meant.
In a multiplayer setting this changed, like a druid was bound to be a healer in vanilla WoW, but got more flexible roles later on.
So the “role” Druid became the "class"Druid with a variety of roles.
It doesn’t matter what the role is, what does though, is that the game will pre-define it as part of its framework, which on the other hand will limit the players freedom.
It has always been so in video games, and it will stay this way.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
All those enemies in the silverwastes must already own the secret expansion ANet is working on, so they can level beyond 80. Lucky them.

The point is:
If you want the zerker meta to be gone, you would have to introduce the trinity.
As long as you can succeed by just having DD’s piled up in a group, more damage is the way to go.
So, the only way to end this, would be implementing a tank/healer/damage combo, with different “roles”, you know, like in a RPG (the R stands for Role in traditional games, in GW2 it stands for RNG, yes this is a Random number generator Playing Game).
The R in RPG is not what you think it is. In traditional RPGs the “R” comes from the fact that you play a “Role”, you are someone with a soul, purpose, identity and not a banch of stats and combat roles. Lots of computer RPGs fail completely at this (and almost every single MMORPG in existance)
You don’t need multiple combat roles for a successful RPG, in fact they can only turn the RPG into a combat-fest, which isn’t what a “REAL” RPG is all about.
What you are talking is just Role Play. With your definition, every game you play is a RPG as you are playing a character, a role. Which is fine.
I have been playing multiplayer RPGs while they still have been text based (MUD). In a multiplayer setting, the point of roles has always been centered around the idea, that there are certain roles that have to be filled.
That is where the holy trinity in multiplayer RPGs is coming from. That is why we still have this system in most MMOs. It gives every class/profession a reason to exist.
ANet got rid of the roles in the multiplayer setting, by rendering tanking and healing useless. So this is only a RPG in the sense of your definition, in which every single game you ever play can be seen as an RPG. Which is sort of meaningless…

The question is, what do you think you will achieve with this move? I still think, this is a bad decision in general.
If you check other games forums with “special” community members, you will see, that the influx on forum communication – after a brief period of excitement – is neglectable.
Most games just got lower DEV or GM forum visit frequency after installing community representatives. I fear it won’t be any different over here.
There is very little to gain with this move, while the risk of unhealty communication is rising. Community representatives are easily manouvered into a defensive position even professionals can’t easily handle. There is a reason, why the profession of a CM is important and challenging. Non-professionals will just end as target dummies, which will burn them out. That will cause a feedback on ANet’s communication in general.
Lose/lose.
So why again would you install community representatives?

Poof, there goes my interest in the program.
You mean you prefer to get paid for doing your job?
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Will these Specialists be selected by Anet or by the community?
There are 2-3 posters here who i’m sure Anet would love to makes specialists, but i’ll be frank… if they are selected I will leave the game.
I wont leave the game, but I will def leave the forums, I can think of 3 or 4 people off the bat that are so Ultra white knight its sickening, and I tend to leave any topic they post in just because the way they reply and cannot see the PoV of other players makes arguments rapidly start.
Someone just stated to me on TeamSpeak are Anet doing this so that devs don’t have to read the forums at all anymore, they can just get a report sent to them once a week and don’t ever have to worry about posting on the forums again…..
If ANet is any kind of clever, they will avoid making ultra defensive forum members specialists. It will cause way too much trouble, if anything they say is recognized as half-official, even though it isn’t. This will put more pressure on ANet than they hope to shift away from themselves actually.
But who knows, let’s wait and see. Some people want to see the forums burn anyway. ^^

Not a mystery, we know very well how it works. It does differ depending on the mob/boss however, providing more interesting combat than simplistic trinity games.
And because it does work more or less totally random, noone cares about the mechanic.
It fails in matters of teamplay and control. But if you want chaos though, it is perfectly well designed.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Problem with Southsun was, that it was introduced by a big event over several stages and people expected the zone to be where the endgame will move on from Orr.
It was all like, “The Karkas attack us, time to kick them in the back of their shells on their own playfield”. People expected it to be like “Starship Troopers”. Then they got a peaceful island with some Karkas minding their own business. And a whole lot of nothing. No endgame, hardly anything to do but a one-time event as buggy as hell, which if you missed it, you missed it forever. That was just bad.
What people here are asking for, is zones, that are meant to be sort of empty, for people who like to explore. Killing everything everywhere can get old fast.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Tagging stuff in PvE is hard enough for mesmers, but tagging with S/F – why would anyone do that? Because you want to avoid any loot at all?
Probably. I guess they’ve never been to Orr temple events where mobs die faster than your Warden can say “whirl”.
This is quite amusing because ive never had a problem with tagging with just sword auto and focus. And also since necro got 2 target cleave on dagger ive also not had a problem with tagging just with that. Most people are slow to tag and kill. It really doesnt take much to tag and get loot.
Its always fun seeing how defensive people get when someone merely suggests that their weapon of choice might not be the best in the world.
Look, most mobs will be dead until you are in melee range. Warden has a terribly long cooldown as only sort of ranged attack with a 1h sword.
There is no way you can tag in events as good with 1h sword/whatever than with a GS. In fact, 1h sword fails in crowded events, as normally mobs are not close together (auto attack therefore will most of the time only hit one target), the phantsam dies as fast as its target and has a long cooldown and while you are trying to get in range to that one target over there, everyone else AoE bombs the kitten out of all other things which you will get no loot for.
Go play as you like, everything is ok in open world was the argument of the dungeoneers anyway. But just don’t spread misinformation. 1h/x is just not as efficient in tagging and therefore in open world as GS.
And on the necro thing, with a D/W and Staff DS build with targeted 100% crit wells, you can tag anything all the time, just because you have tons of ranged AoE options. You won’t have those with a 1h sword using mesmer ever…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Ranged tagging is a niche and completely unneeded. You can tag perfectly fine with sword auto and wardens and it does more damage.
You guys really need to stop being so defensive. If you like using gs you can. I dont care. But to answer the OP’s question I wouldnt include mesmer in the list.
Melee tagging stuff with warden as secondary option? While you have a ranged weapon with all AoE instant attacks and super short cooldowns if double traited?
Tagging stuff in PvE is hard enough for mesmers, but tagging with S/F – why would anyone do that? Because you want to avoid any loot at all?
Sword is more or less useless outside of dungeons, the GS is in most cases, outside of dungeons the better choice.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Probably because mesmer gs is a pretty poor weapon for PvE except in extremely niche situations.
Dont use greatsword on mesmer.
greatsword on mesmer is really bad dps, you should use sword instead
If you guys stick your heads out of speedcleared dungeons, you might see that GS is a great weapon for 90% of Tyria for 90% of players. Dungeons = PvE, but PvE =/= dungeons, even if you solehandedly write a “Dungeon class guide” and call it “PvE class guide”. I’ve seen players who are looking at metabattle builds and dulfy.net guides and thinking those will make them happy, while in practice more AoE and skill spam is better for what these players actually play most of the time. In short:
- If you’re speedclearing dungeons in a balanced organised group which knows all encounters, stacks, fights in melee and pre-stacks might, you as a mesmer with GS are a liability and should feel bad. That way you use sword + offhands, help your team and enjoy the game.
- If you’re running a dungeon with pugs who are very likely to range and you’re not a pro with some 1k+ hours on the class, you use GS and enjoy the game.
- If you’re running around the world tagging mobs for loot, you use GS because it’s fast and efficient since it provides good AoE and cannot be reflected, which lets you enjoy the game.
Pretty much this. I do not even understand where this “dungeons are the only real PvE thing” is coming from, when ANet long, long time ago abandoned dungeons.
For general use, GS is a great weapon, best AoE tagging, best reaction speed in events. Sword sucks pretty much everywhere besides coordinated group content. Which is sort of a joke after what, two years of the same old same?
Whatever, if people want to run around in GW2 using a sword, let them…

Even Vayne is entitled to his opinion.
He just has a hard time with facts.
For now it is a fact, that the stuff that ANet works on is not known to be of any value for GW2. Therefore the whole discussion is based on speculation.
ANet employees are working. They are busy. Someone saw this. Good. Does this necessarily mean anything for GW2? No.
From what we know about the “stuff” it will not improve GW2. As simple as that. Because we don’t know kitten about it.

Let’s just settle for “vegetative state” then…

I do believe that 2015 will be big year for Gw2
Yeah, you don’t get to attend a funeral very often.
While I don’t think GW2 will die, it will porbably stay in a coma.
People said that 2014 would be a great year for GW2 in 2013, but you gotta like getting kicked in the teeth after a falcon punch if you liked the development of GW2 and think 2014 was great for this game.
To each their own. But if it is less that you want, you are probably right with GW2.

So there. You can easily see why they’d need 300+ people to analyze all that data. They could do with a staff of 50 if they were Asura.
Wait, is that why we get “Stuff stuff stuff” and shinies?
Lemme go change my title to Honorary Skritt.
Does that mean, the new stuff will be Skritt as playable race? Nice!
