It’s something unique that I hate
I don’t know why people keep bringing the balance around, even if thief did 0 damage, I would still hate to fight them.
And also, there is a reason why they removed the hiding in combat in Ultima Online
I’m still wondering why Anet wanted to remove perma stealth from the game, and just replaced it with something even worse. And even worse, thief can still perma invis with certain build and combo field.
It require more work then the usual perma stealth, but they can still do it in combat.

Ranger aren’t a FotM class.
They have to please the mass, and the mass don’t play Ranger/Engineer/Necromancer.
They play FotM class. Since Warrior and Guardian are balanced, they don’t post.
But Thief/Elem/Mesmer get a crazy amount of communication from Dev.
Just check the Elem forum, they had like 4 threads for them this week. Live debug also.
Necro AI minions are bugged since release, they didn’t get a single word about it.
I just wish we had more communication on non-FotM sub forum.

I see a lot of post about thief, wondering if they are OP or not. It’s pretty hard to determine in WvW since we have the culling issue, the gears, and the skills of players.
But I think we miss the real question :
Do you have FUN fighting a thief?
It might be just me, that’s why I’m asking the question. But I hate fighting thief in WvW. Not because they can kill me in 2-3 sec (doesn’t happen that much once you know how to counter DD) but because I have to fight an invis ennemy.
I don’t like at all, attacking nothing. I would say, in average, they are invis for half the fight. Especially P/D. They will invis, heal a bit with auto regen, then come back for 3-5 sec, then invis.
I don’t have any fun fighting an invis ennemy. I have to learn the patern, and hope he isn’t pro and isn’t changing his stealth pattern during the fight. That like rolling the dice.
I don’t care about Mesmer illusion, since I still can find the real one. I don’t care about warrior invul, as I can see him and read his movement. Any other class “cheesy” move, they don’t bother me. Even the DD Elem, who is really strong right now, At least I can see him.
There is just something missing for the fun to be there when fighting a thief for me. To be able to see your ennemy, and not auto attack randomly in the air.
I play MMORPG since Ultima Online, and it’s the first time that a class/player can SPAM invis during a fight. Most game only allow stealth as an opener, and few permited a not spammable invis during fight. But Most of them had a way to detect invis by being too close or using a skill.
It’s my opinion, not a fact. I might be the only player to feel like this in WvW. And this is not a thread about balancing them, it’s about the invis factor.
TD;DR : This post isn’t about thief balance. The question is : Do you have fun fighting an invis ennemy?

I’m sure it must be efficient, since sPvP are ether Well-o-mancer or Condimancer.
Mammoth do you have fraps? I would be happy if you could show us a video of you Pvping. You seems to know a lot about bunker builds!
I had issue with DS centric build, as in PvP when you face a burst, they seems to cut thru it like butter.

Sure turret are bit lack luster, but that’s a balancing issue, not a bug that make them unplayable.

). You guys love us so much.
Man GoM really did a comeback yesterday. They had good number, good coverage and good strategy.
That’s the GoM that will dominate the match up next week, and that might join us in the tier 7.
Sure, following the lead of RonnyRaygun who was drunk yesterday didn’t seems to help us, but hey that was fun. :P

Anvil Rock raised a new alliance with the mains WvW guilds,I hope it will help for the next match up. Right now we can sit on our number to win, but I saw some better organisatin on the battlefield.
GoM is actually working on an alliance right now, and if they win the next match up, they could get a population boost that would throw them back in the mix.
GoM got really good players, I had no issue ganking BP player (Except that kitten DD elem), but small group fight with GoM are a lot more interresting.
I think GoM will soon be back on theirs feets.

GoM will prolly have a WvW population boost like it happened for Anvil Rock on friday.
It’s like fair weather player are waiting for an easy match up, and as soon as they see it, they all join WvW. They aren’t the best player, but it still more number.
GoM had a really good population in the firsts BP/GoM/AR match up, I’m sure they aren’t all gone.
Also, with your project of alliance, it should help a lot.

I’m roaming with a friend, who play mesmer/ele/thief.
He always complain about me, since I play necro and engineer as main in WvW.
I have no escape mecanism, other then Fresh Worm on Necro and some shield + jump with engineer. But those don’t work often, and with my necro I’m not always using Flesh form, as it doesn’t fit every build.
If we attack a group, and they are starting to zerg us, be sure they will all focus on me. I think my necro got a target on him.
Who would attack a mesmer, Elem or thief when they can easily escape? Just kill the necro. It might take 2-3 more sec to kill, but at least he won’t escape and reset the fight.
Once the fight turn bad, I can rarely escape, except if they are bad. A second HP bar is useless vs a Zerg. I would take a stealth/Block/blink/anything before that.
Guardian,thief, mesmer and Elem are really the perfect squad for roaming.
Elem can just hit and run an entire zerg without dying, if they are specced for it.

Necromancer is a lot stronger then people think.
But I agree that many of the bugs/weird mecanism are affecting the gameplay.
I can’t wait the day I will be able to play my necro as a Minion Master.
Or the day that a condimancer will use DS for something else then a damage soaker.
Or finally the day that we will be a real attrition class. As right now, I don’t see my necro stronger as the combat continu. I drain my LF, burst my CD like every other class, and if they decide to run away, they are gone. P/D thief is a good exemple of an attrition class. Slowly do damage, you can’t escape, you waste your CD trying to get them, then you die.
But Overall, I love the necromancer. I just think it deserve a bit more love.
We have a boring class mecanism (DS), that had so much potential. I think since they changed it from beta necro, they didn’t have much time to think about it.
It should be like our elite transformation, with skills depending of our weapon set and acces to our boon, heal, and utilies.
I’m asking for too much
P.S : I also think we are less a priority for them right now, since we have a low amount of player. It’s a company, they have to take care of the majority. Thief and now new FotM Elem seems to be ahead right now. Elem got so many support from Anet lately.

You got a point, more often then not, it would be better to just swap weapon/DS then use dagger #2.
And about the spectral wall combo field, it’s annoying. But at the same time, with bones minions never attacking, you better summon and pop them right away. Cast wall, summon them, pop them.
They are unreliable if you wait for them to attack the ennemy, as they are also really slow.

By the way, Axe vuln stacking is really slow. People tend to think it’s a good vuln stacker because they use focus #4. But focus #4 isn’t axe.
Axe only stack vuln from #1, and it’s a fairly slow stacking. You also sacrifice a lot of you focus on using #1.
I tried it again yesterday, tried to do a power axe build. Didn’t work well. Once your #2 and #3 are on CD, you are stuck with abyssal damage.

Deathly swarm is bugged, it doesn’t throw back every conditions.
Powermancer can’t rely only on damage, you have to use every tool you have to make up for the lower damage output. DS being one of them.
Our top sPvP player is a Well-o-mancer after all.

Dagger #2 can still do a good amount of damage. I use it when my CC are on CD and I can’t reach the target. Can crit for up to 5k damage, ain’t bad.
I actually run both Signet of Undeath and Spectral Wall.
Those are 2 wonderful abilities, and I have a hard time removing them from my skill bar.
Signet of Undeath passive might seems lack luster, but it still a 1% over 3 sec free Life force. Maybe It could use a little buff, but the activate make up for it. Each 144 sec if traited, I can revive ally to 50% hp without having to sit down near them.
In dungeon/fractal, I used it so manytime. People love it.
In WvW, it’s a fight winner right there. I roam with a friend in WvW, and man when he get downed, and everyone go around to finish him just to see him get up heal and continu to fight. It’s wonderful
Spectral wall, such an underused skill. It offers a lot.
First you have a protection buff, each time you walk in it (it won’t stack, you only get the protection buff if you don’t have it already). You also get a 10 stack of vuln right away. That’s awesome for DD necromancer.
Ethereal combo field. Enought said.

That’s why I’m not using the condimancer build.
When my friend fought me in sPvP. I had my well-o-mancer and he had a condimancer.
He started throwing everything at me, got me to 10-12 bleeds and others cond. I used my #4 mark, and sent them back to him. Everything he did was wasted by a single skill. He tried to do it again, when he was about dead, I used my CC heal. Finished with full HP and he was dead.

I edited my post and forgot to put back the part where I said sicne it’s a Ranger ability, I’m pretty sure we won’t have it.
But yeah, attacking the same target as us would be cool.
And yesterday I went back to MM build, and I can confirm it’s as worse as it was before.
If you precast your minions, they are pretty sure to just chill around.
Using the activate skill is the only way to maybe make them attack.
If you precast bone minions, you’ll have such a hard time hiting somoene with them, it’s crazy. You have to cast them during fight, they will act like homing missile like they are supose to. (slow homing missile
)
When you run from a fight, Flesh Golem will a gentleman and stay and die fighting the ennemies. That’s annoying because you’ll lose him in zerg for no reason. You’ll also lose him everytime you enter the water.

You try to make it looks like 1 GoM equal 5 Anvil Rock. I know the feeling, that when you get outnumbered you think the ennemy server is all over quantity.
But our players are as good as yours, it’s the first week since release that we aren’t outnumbered. We learned to fight vs more ennemies. Except those fair weather player, those are a bunch of meatbag.
They only show when we are winning, and there only reason for being there is slowing the ennemy.
But every server got them, once you fight HoD and ET, you will become the big bad zerging server.
Also, the reason why we answer so fast, is we have a TS server with every big guild from the server. And since we have the number this week, as soon as something is under attack, everyone is quick to go there. We are bored

But, I gotta admit, those who stay in EB to protect our tower might be bored as hell. They are using their time to build siege and camp. Not something I would do, but I see the reasonning. I hope you group up and kick their kitten

Overall, I know the feeling of being outnumbered. Like I said, Anvil Rock didn’t win once since release. It will be our first victory.
Nobody is happy about this match up, except fairweather player and vista hunter. We might look like the big bad server for you, but their is nothing we can do about it.

P/D thief are the class I hate the most in WvW.
D/D thief, I used to hate them early when I didn’t know how they worked. But As soon as I learned the, it became a fair fight.
Tried to learn the patern of P/D thief, but even if I can dodge one cloak and dagger, they have emergency invis to back them up.
And unlike DD thief, I can’t cast mark on myself, waiting for them to melee me.
I don’t seems to have enought CC or burst damage, as most P/D build regen very fast when stealthed.
Any tips how to counter them as a necro? :P

I tried once to do a retaliation build, didn’t work out great.
But I didn’t try everything, might works!
But when I’m using a wellomancer build, I have trouble using something else then dagger/staff.
Dagger immobilisation is really good to keep people in your wells. I tried Axe for a while, but I missed the immo and the swiftness from warhorn.

Sorry man, having trouble wording my thought sometime.
You don’t have to stay in the contested point, I don’t know why people does it when fighting necro.
But people that kicked my kitten they stayed outside of my wells, and bursted me.
But I think we won’t agree on it, it’s ok. But just stated my opinion, that necro aren’t as good bunker as a good Ranger, guardian, elem, Engineer.
If you do better then me, all good. :0 I might also be bad at bunkering!

Because you ether contest the point for 2-3 min with the necro, and risk dead. Or exit the point, kill the necro in 20sec, and take the point.
Other then plague, wells last only 5 sec, that’s a very short time to wait to contest the point. And many time they can still contest it, as well are not always covering everything.
A bunker necro that doesn’t hit anything is dead.

Steal is an incredible mecanism.
Creslin, about using the F1-F4, It would be cool yeah, but so much work and balancing. 3 more abilities is huge, 3 more per steal is very huge.
Steal give thief an unique abilities depending of the foes they are fighting. It’s awesome.
You also have Stealth attack, that is also unique to thief. And initiative. That’s a lot of class specific abilities.
Just take Necro as an exemple. They only have the same Death Shroud, all the time. The same 4 situational abilities. Nothing else.

What kind of Ranger bunker did you use?
The only competitive for Ranger right now in sPvP is the Regen Bunker.
Perma protection, perma vigor, and huge regen.
If you play vs good player, they will just exit the well or the plague range, and kill you. What you don’t hit, doesn’t heal you.

Really depend what kind of necro you want?
Bunker? Aborsb a lot of damage
Direct Damage? Use direct damage.
Condition? Use condition to do damage over time.
Hybrid?
There are a lot more option.
For new player, a condimancer is effective. Use staff and scepter + dagger as weapons, and use epidemic as utility.

But yeah, that you want it or not, minions are a core aspect of Necromancer. They have a complet skill type (“Minions”) dedicated to them.Also a complete traits line.
Turret works like our Flesh Worm, and yeah will you can’t aim with them, it still reliable. Flesh Worm I think everyone is happy with the AI. My main was an engineer, and turret were a lot better then our minion. They didn’t stop attacking without a reason.
Shatter Mesmer are the FotM build for mesmer, and will having minor issue with pathing, it’s far from affecting the overall performance. Give me minions hitting for 7k, and I won’t mind the unreliable AI. It could even be a feature : “Minions are crazy, but thery hit like a truck”.
And your description of the issue is far from being the reality. I can post video tonight if it happening MOST fight, they are just standing there clapping for me. The folks you are talking too must not use minion a lot.
Giving the control like a Ranger would work. It would be the best solution, and the solution most game use.
You can also make minion attack when you attack something, I think it’s how it’s supose to be right now. It would be Ok, still not the Ranger control, but since they are undead/demon minion, it would be logic.

I doubt the AI can’t be fix, since other class minions use it (guardian, ranger to an extend) and it’s working.
Also, your last paragraph sound kinda selfish?
Because you rarely use minions, it’s not important? It’s not because you don’t use something, that other don’t. How many player on the forum posted about choosing the necro class because of the minions. Man even in GW1 Necro were a minions class.
It’s one of the core aspect of the class, sure we can play without it. I love the necro class. But it’s sad that we are missing such a huge part.
And it’s not only the pathing, it’s the AI. It affects every minions except Flesh worm. Minions don’t attack, don’t follow, go different ways, attack what you don’t want. That’s a lot more then pathing issue.
Let’s say Water attunement for Elem would bug out. Wouldn’t work 50% of the time. Would you say it’s not big deal since you rarely use it?

Hi There,
I know we have a lot of post about Minions AI, but I feel like it’s a major game breaking bugs for one of the most important aspect of the necromancer.
I have been playing MMO for a long time, and no offence to Anet, but this is the only bug that I can remember that affected my gameplay so much.
I played a minion master for 2 weeks, testing a lot of build and gears. I wanted to prove people wrong about it, that it was still viable without a competent AI.
Well they were right, the bugged AI just make it so unreliable, you miss 50% of your dps once it happens. I would say about 3 fight out of 4, some minions won’t attack.
I know we can’t ask Anet for an answer, but it would be really cool and helpful, if we could get an ETA about it. Are they working on it? Are they aware? Is this as hard to solve as the culling issue?
The only come back we had, was :

“It does not give a free res. These guys can’t rally you. Also they die in about 11 seconds, not 2 seconds. I would like them to have a bit more survivable, but the real problem is obviously them aggroing. Necro minions are supposed to aggro based on what you attack only, so if this particular minion is not following that rule that is the real problem. We are currently investigating it and will make any changes we think are necessary.”
- This post is a month ago old. We are having this issue since release, and it was one of the most known issue we had.
- So in november, they started investigate it. We didn’t get any news after that. We are still in the dark. We don’t even know if they will only investigate the “reanimator” trait, or every minions. We hope for the second choice.
- In the november 15th patch, I was keeping my MM build, just because I thought it would finally happens. Nope, it didn’t happen. Nothing in the patch note about it. It was still a nightmare in game to have every one of your minions to at least attack once.
- Just yesterday, another bug solving patch, nothing about the necros. All good, it happens. But we still has a lot of bug, more then most class, maybe except Ranger.
Elementalist got a big list of bug resolved, and they even have live response on there forum, that will be debugged right away tonight.
I think we would deserve an ETA on this issue, how it is going, when can we expect it. I know it’s must not be a simple bug to resolve, it must be a nightmare. Anet is doing an incredible job, and I thank them for this.
But a major bug like this, I would expect more

Thanks Kardiamond – sad thing is, I became a Necro because I liked the minions. Now I am starting to hate the necro because of the minions.

I just hope it’s a top priority. It’s breaking one of the main aspect of being a necro.
The sad thing is, not too long ago Anet didn’t even seems to know about it. A dev was surprised that the bone minion from reanimator wasn’t always attacking. Worse, this is the case with every minions we have, except my delicious worm.

Well since spectral armor pop at 50% hp, you might not need LF. And spectral armor is also used as a protection source.
8 seconde in a fights is a long time, do you last that long when getting hit, without popping DS? Especially since some build use the short CD of DS to pop in/out a lot.
I just don’t see why those 2 thing (spectral armor/walk and DS) aren’t more fluid when used togheter.
Sure you can work around it, but during a fight you can’t always time everything right.
Lets say you are about 1/2 LF, and have 50% hp. And now this happens :
You need some stability
You need emergency damage soaking (Warrior HB/thief burst)
You are running away with spectral walk and you hp goes down rapidly
You switch in/out for the buff from DS.
You need to interrupt somoene DS/fear.
All those situation, if you used spec walk/armor, or if your 50% hp spectral armor popped up, you just wasted it.
I’m not saying it should stay up.
But maybe find an in between.
- 50% as effective when in DS form.
- Lower CD depending of when it got canceled.
