I don’t think it has anything to do with targetting. I always target since I use dagger immobilization when I attack, and my minions won’t attack 50% of the time.
I worked a lot with minion, and gave up after 2-3 weeks of frustration.
I have one thing to add to this thread :
I did some experimentation with the bones minions. I really had trouble with them, as about 90% of the time(yeah that much) They wouldn’t run to my targeted ennemy. They also seems to try to stay far from each other, making them using different pathing. It’s pretty hard to explod them since when they finally answer and reach the ennemy, only one of them will reach.
So you ether have to wait for both to be at the ennemy, or activate the skill and hope the one that explod will be the one on the ennemy.
To counter that, I found a trick :
If you cast your summon during combat, they will have a better AI. I only used it on bones minions, but they nearly always worked when I casted them during combat. It’s really annoying becuase they have a long casting time and a long animation to get out of the ground.
But as soon as you cast them in combat, they will act like homing missile and goes directly to ennemies.
I have to test it again, but when I did that, I think I was even able to make them switch target. By targeting somoene else, they would switch target.
More test to come…
TD;DR : If you summon bones minions during combat, they will work 90% of the time, maybe 100% of the time, I have to retest.

Like he said, they don’t stack. If you are using both signet of locus and dagger +10% movement speed, it’s a waste. You will only get the 25% movement speed from locus. Also NOBODY use the dagger +10% ms while using a necro, it’s such a waste.
And you’ll still have the second best mobility in the game. Just use a short bow, and you should be good.
Right now there is no way a necro can chase a good thief. It’s impossible.

Well, that might go against developer intentions or something about Necromancers not supposed to be the class that can escape easily.
Well then make this signet better in other aspect.
Like slowing people around you for 25% speed. :P

Well It took us quit a while to destroy those door. Especially the last door, since we only had about 3 golem left.
I don’t know how many we had total at the beginning, maybe more then 5. But I can assure nothing illegal happened there.

If you knew me, you would know I can’t stand hacker. I call them off in general chat, I screen shot and I report. Each time I witnessed something wrong, I did it.
I would do the same about the alliance.

Really? Are you reading my mind? You must be! I’m not even friend with the alliance, I listen on the TS but I don’t speak. When they do a bad move in WvW, I call them out in general chat. Alliance or not, if they cheat, them and all those who cheated with them will be reported.
I only wrote about the alliance because there TS is a good source of information for many guilds. I have to remember to never prononce the word “alliance” with you around.
I also never said Anvil Rock didn’t have hacker. We are on the internet after all, every server have cheaters.
You hate the alliance so much, get over it already. Those days, each one of your post is full of hate ether for Anvil Rock or for the alliance. You should just switch server, no offence intended. It’s a video game, you are supose to have fun.

If he is talking about our keep in Eternal Battleground, I was there when we took it.
We mesmer portaled 4-5 golem at the door, and went brute force. I think our commander didn’t know to do and was bored and just decided to go Conan mode like he kept saying.
We just sent the golem and covered them, we didn’t even destroy the boiling oil ahaha.
But we got the keep anyway, mainly because we had a diversion going in another tower, and they were not expecting us to attack like that.
We didn’t see a lot of them, so I presume we took them by surprise.

I didn’t see that going on with the golems for AR, but I was standing in Overlook last night and seen this player blip past me and up above my head right through the walls. Obviously they were moving too “fast” to catch the guild tag or name, but it was an AR player using it. It would go without saying that many guilds on AR employ the use of said unsavory tactics especially during times where they’re being beaten so badly during WvW matches (like said match). And, I’m sure there are many that know of it and that are going “go for it” to said player(s) as they don’t want to report their “friends”.

I have been playing on AR since release (you have been there for what? 1 month?) and I can assure you we don’t have “many guilds using hacks”.
I saw once a mesmer who I’m pretty sure exploited a wall, and I reported him. I’m sure 99% of AR would do it.

Major mistake people make and that hurt their servers.
Run a camp capping group for xp when there’s a queue on that map.
Do the jumping puzzle when there is a queue on the map.
I never head of those two points being an issue on Anvil Rock :P

The alliance isn’t focusing on keeping our tower/keeps, they prefer attacking.
At the same time, I understand why they don’t defend/upgrade our position. As soon as the night comes, we lost everything.

I was fighting a really good thief yesterday.
He was a DD thief, and it has been a long time since I fought a good one.
He combo’d me with culling, and got me to around 6k hp(I have 22k hp and a lot of thoughtness) before I could see him. I fear, damage a bit and heal.
Shadowstep, combo me again, got me to half hp, I hit him with every marks I have that aren’t onCD, I get him to like 50%.
He heals and goes invis.
He combo me again, eat thru my DS. I used my DS fear, he just run around me and combo again.
While in stealth, he cures every bleeds I have put on him. I have no LF left, no heal up, and he finish me.
I landed every spell I had, sadly he remove every condition I had on him. He would drop me to 20% hp in about 2 sec each time he attacked.
He wouldn’t use CC, so Reapers Protection didn’t proc.
I’m heavy condition/fear build, with a lot of vitality and thoughtness.
I played thief, learned their pattern. I read every tips to fight thieves.
It still the class that I hate the most to fight in WvW.
People say they are glass cannon. No, they aren’t all glass cannon. Newb go class cannon. Good thief will get more hp/thoughtness, and still hit like a truck.

@Zuer if you are going to accuse a server of hacking, be god kitten sure that you are right.
They used portal to transport golem. None of them “speed hacked” their way. If they had done it, be sure others player from AR would have reported, me first.

Yeah but the issue with Thief, is that Hide in Shadow (the heal that every thief use) also cure Bleed, Poison and Burn. So keeping poison on them is actually useless

Yeah Thief deserve perma vigor, best mobility, leather armor, stealth ect. because they have 12k hp. Poor thief.
But yeah, If I ever master Death Shroud, I should be able to defeat good P/D Thief. :P
Our “spammable” fear are too short to give us the chance of burning somoene with our condition will they are CC’ed. I use fear when I know my ennemy is about to heal.

Wild Bill build is pretty straight forward, and require you to have good movement and not missing your C&D.
I saw how he explained how it was not easy to accomplish, and I still fail to see how it’s more complex then any other build. I tried it for a while and it was actually really boring, tho it was effective.
This thief build is the perfect exemple of the attrition class. This is what a necromancer should do. We are supose to be the attrition classe.
I have condition clear, I’m a necro after all. And even with 3 condition cleaner, a good P/D thief will win most of the time vs me. I have to be timed and dodge their C&D (without any vigor source). But at the same time, I can’t build condition on them because they have so many condition cleaner on that build.
They usually outlast me. Even If I’m cond/vitality/thought heavy geared. I usually can’t stack condition as consistant as them.

Wow, that’s sort of crazy. Let’s say a modest 800 condition damage at L80, fear + 5 stacks of bleed + poison is 1.1k dps, passively. For fears longer than 1s, that ends fights.

But since I switched from power to condition, it seems to be pretty situation. On some class/build, it will work pretty well. Especially in group fight when you use epidemic.
But again others, like Powermancer, Guardian, P/D thief, DD Elem, Cat Engineer and some others, you will hit like a wet noddle. Those guys have too many heal/condition remover.

Dagger in main hand is more a power weapon. It does direct damage.
Dagger in offhand first ability transfer conditions and blind. Second ability is an AoE Bleed + Weakness. So the dagger offhand is more a condition damage.
For direct damage, you got to use Power/Prec/Crit damage stats.
For Condition, You use condition damage stats.
So Even if some people use both dagger togheter, I don’t think they have any sinergy.
And for power build, you can sue Staff + Dagger/warhorn, or Staff + Axe/Focus.
Staff kinda fit every build, and has a lot of utilies. I played without it in WvW for 2 weeks, and I missed it.

Okay, so much for perception being accurate.
Reaper’s protection and Fear of Death do NOT share a cooldown.
Just tested in the Mists against the mesmer NPC, both fears went off within 10 seconds of each other. I did not happen to notice if Reaper’s protection sets a 10 second cooldown to the downed state fear, but that would be very minor for me as hopefully I am not going down in 10 seconds of Reaper’s prot. proccing.
So false alarm here… Not sure why it seems like the downed state fear isn’t going off as often, possibly the range is just not far enough.

I sort of question what downed state fear actually gets you. Does anyone have any ideas that don’t involve cliff ledges? With a condition damage build, how hard does damage-on-fear tick for?

My build is condition heavy, but I don’t have the max condition damage yet.
Last time I checked, my fear was hiting for around 800-900 damage a tick. That’s really good damage, as Reapers Protection hit for around 3.2k condition damage when it goes off.
Fear of death isn’t that useful really. it does around 1.6k damage, and doesn’t work most of the time. It only use is letting you sruvive 1 sec longer if you are lucky.
I just love sending people in fear when they finally get me 4-5 vs 1.

It would be horrible, as I’m also trying a Fear build for fun and I wanted as many fear source as possible.
But If Reaper Protection and Fear of death share the same CD, it’s useless. I wouldn’t want my Reaper protection to be on CD because my Fear of death was used 90 sec ago.
4 sec fear on CC wasted for a 2 sec fear on downed state.
Try it with your friend please, and come back with result! I will switch to 15% cd reduction on DS if it’s the case.

Well when Xandria make those kind of post, It’s not “rumors” anymore.
I agree the alliance can be hard to speak with, they seems to not listen to anyone other then themself. Even when they do little mistake that cost us a lot.
But they still do a lore more for the server then any kind of mistake they can do. They offer communication, commander, supplies, tips for new player and blueprint.
I liked EOH, the few time I crossed them. They were doing a good job.
The only issue I have is :
1- As anyone that know me from the forum, I have a bad opinion of guild transfering to another server.
2- Xandria perpetual attack again the alliance in public forum.

It’s the same thing for us. Half my fight are vs Thief.
Thief are the FotM. They are the stealth class, like most MMORPG players loves being invisible. And most game have been really bad at balancing stealth class.
I hate thief, not because they are overpowered. My necro can destroy most of them (Except P/D stealth thief, those are such a long fight and I usually lose because they dispel my condition in stealth) but where is the fun in fighting an invis ennemy? I hate it.

Hi all,
I started using the fear of death trait for some days just for the fun of it. To those that are too lazy to check it, it’s the trait that cast an AoE fear when you are downed.
I didn’t do any specific test yet, but in WvW it happen often that my fear doesn’t seems to go off.
I get downed, have 3 people around me without stability, and nothing happens. Sometime only one of them goes running, other aren’t affected. Sometime they all run in fear.
I try to do a stability check, they don’t seem to have it. It’s not on cooldown as I rarely get downed twice in 90 second. :P
Is it sharing cooldown Reaper’s Protection (fear on CC 90 sec CD)?
Also, 1 sec fear on downed state seems a bit lackluster if you ask me, even AoE. Why?
I know, 1 sec fear isn’t bad to buy some time when you got downed. The issue is the timing. Because the fear seems to cast while you are stil invulnerable from getting downed. So the fear finish, right in time for them to start stomping you.
I have 2 sec fear duration from traits/food, and by the time I can see my Downedstats UI, the fear duration is nearly over.
So from this trait, I have like 0.5 sec more in downstate. And for that, I have to spend traits in fear duration, food and maybe rune. When it works..
What do you guys think?

Not sure I got it right, but man It must have been a pain so play like that.
It’s really useful to switch you trait ooc, especially when you have to swap some traits for PvE/Dungeon/WvW. The 50% fall damage being great for WvW but useless in other place, I swap it a lot.

I came back on your thread to see how GoM would react to having the number this time.
And people, stop saying Anvil Rock were saying we didn’t have the number. Last week we won the match because of numbers! NUMBERS! We had more then GoM, and ET had nobodies. We all said it.
2 random player from AR said we weren’t winning because of our number.2 random, that never posted before. Fair weather player prolly. Everyone else admited we won because of it.
But GoM kept bringing it back. I told you : Next week (well this week now) you’ll be in the same position as us.
GoM are a lot bigger then bot HoD and ET TOGHETER! Man their population on peak was on par with us, they just didn’t have constant population. Now we can add fair weather player, and they are a lot more then both other server.
And what I read on the first page? : GoM are winning because of superior tactics and planning. Stop dreaming up guys. It’s all about number. Servers population is too big a factor in WvW to count it out.
Even if ET and HoN had the bests tactics in the world, they lack the population. They will rebuild once they hit tier 8.
By the way GoM, I have nothing again you. You are a good server. But don’t play the “It’s not number it’s tactic!” card. It’s just arrogant.
Also, you’ll see on you come to tier 6. Those random Anvil Rock that thought we would won because we became so much better, are prolly PvEing right now. BP is kicking our bum.
When you win because of number, you tend to think you used better tactics. It’s just an illusion, as soon as you hit a more populated server, you get stomped again.

You guys had a cool guild and all, it was great when you helped Anvil Rock in fights. But since you are leaving next week, you can stop bashing up the alliance every post you can. Solve your issue with them, no need to post them on the forum.
EOH jumped what? 3-4 server since release? It’s good to say it’s the server fault, but you also have to understand that you prolly have some fault also.
And I have been running with the alliance for 1 week now. No they don’t always do the best move, but hey, they are human and playing for fun. Mistake happen. But they never gave up. They fought all week and they aren’t stopping.

We had a bad surprise when the reset happened.
Seems like both SF and BP decided to rush us in our borderland. It was crazy :
“The zerg is at the bay!!” "No It’s at Garrisson! “No both Zerg are at garrison!”
BP had 2 group going on, when for the hills, and one for garrison. SF had one zerg going directly for garrison after taking some tower.
Hell, BP and SF even fought inside the garrison during the siege ahhaah. We were outnumbered being 1 vs 2, but it was still crazy. We had to attack BP borderland to make them fall back from our BL.
After that, BP did very well, we had nice fight with them. Sadly, while we were having a fight with them, we couldn’t defend EB and we lost most.
BP had forces on every map, and it hurts us a lot. Seems like our fairweather players from last week all went back to PvE or transfered somewhere else.
Message to SF, come on guys, I thought you would attack the big guy! Not us! I understand the tactic of attacking the 2nd position, it’s logic. But we can’t let BP get such a big margin. Each time I logged we had blue in our territories, and then our people had to attack you to take there revenge.
We should stop wasting our forces between us and kick some BP’s bottom.
P.S 1 : The off peak capping while hurt this match up tho, right now BP is holding 100% of the map

I played every class in spvp, and my main is a necro. I don’t play my engi anymore.
I gotta say : Engineer have the worse downed state of the game, on par with Ranger.
Ranger might be a bit better only because they can still use their pet when downed. When they know how to use them, they can have one more interrupt.
To those saying engineer downed state are good, tell me what an engineer can do, that other can’t?
Only the #3 of engineer is powerful, really powerful. But you never get to use it. Even with glass cannon spec, my #1 hit like a wet noodle. To the person we can do fearly good damage with #1, that’s ain’t true at all.
Mindblast from my mesmer can hit for 1.5k. Never with my Engi I got close to that. But hey, at least I can inflect random condition that might not help me at all. :P
The #2 pull, is the worse #2 in the game.
- It’s a single player interrupt. 5 of the class have AoE #2 (moving abilities count as AoE interrupt).
- Won’t work on stability/Stealth/Block/Elixir S(not sure the name, the miniature one). Mobily #2 like thief mesmer elem don’t care about those boon.
- It actually pull the ennemy toward you. You don’t want that. The #2 of necro at least create some distance. (untraited, it’s only 1 sec by the way, unlike somoene said)
The #3 explosion is really strong. I have nothing to say about it, but you don’t have the chance to use it.
A remake of #2 is all engi need. The #1 isn’t that bad, it’s just the random that can be a a pain.

Good idea to try a lifesteal necro, I think a lot of people also think that +-38 hp is minimal and should be higher.
Lifestealth necro are fun, but other then bunker necro, you might find yourself a bit underpowered.
Here some tips about your build :
You seems to focus power/thought/healing in this build.So..
- Damage on fear (Terror) traits use condition damage to be effective. You also doesn’t use a staff, so you only have one source of fear (other then downed state and maybe corrupt boon), so you shouldn’t focus a trait on something you will not use often.
- Vampiric precision traits (Life steal on crit) and crit sigil, you have a low critical chance (9%). Those sigil/traits are good with crit/power build. You should swap them for something else, as they won’t synergy well.
- Swap your offhand. Dagger is best used with warhorn, since warhorn #5 require you to be in melee range to be 100% effective for the duration. #4 warhorn daze is also great with dagger #3 immobilize. Axe and focus can both stack vulnerability, they are quit nice togheter.
- I’m not a fan of Signet of locus, mainly because the 10% speed doesn’t stack with your warhorn speed buff and spectral walk. Also, the activate is a bit lackluster.
- Corrupt boon on a power build, not sure, but still can be useful. Removing boon from someone is always nice.
- Also, I don’t know if it’s still the case, but there was a bug with 6th effect of rune of vampirist. When you go in Death Shroud form (F1), it act like if you have 0 hp. The game think you are below 10% hp, so the rune cast mist form. Meaning that once you press F1, you lose all your attack for the duration of mist form, since this form can’t attack. Pretty annoying. I don’t know if it’s still the case.
Since you don’t use the staff as one of your weapon, it’s going to be harder for you.
600 max range isn’t easy, especially in WvW/pvp. For more lifestealing, you should prolly go and use a Wells build. Use 1-2 wells utilies, and use the grandmaster traits in blood to sipphon health each time your well hit somoene.

People complaining that stealth is not good enought to be a core ability.
Please play other class and learn that thief class specific isn’t only Steal, but stealth attack, initiative/no cooldown attack.
I would trade any other class specifique for your initiative system anytime. Hell have fun with my Death Shroud.

Even with 30 blood, you can gear up for extreme damage, and you will still have a pretty good DPS, and good survivability. The wells healing is pretty useful for Fractals and some WvW encounter.
Tho if we are talking about sPvp/WvW only, I prefer going all offence.
30/20/20/0/0 build, focusing on staff damage and target wells.
You have to position yourself, and use DS as much as you can, since you won’t have much tankability. I have around 22k hp and 2.1k armor. It still more then most glass cannon build.
In WvW, most people won’t stack defensive stats. So your attack with your staff will do a carnage. I drop most people to 50% hp with my marks. After that, count the dodge, and cast at least 2 wells (I run 2 wells utilies) and immobilize with your dagger. Then unleash the damage.
Mosty people should be dead. Don’t forget to daze them with warhorn, it’s deadly and interrupt last seconde healing.
If they survive finish them with DS.
The Well-O-Mancer is one of the few build that work in WvW. I like playing with different build, but Most build I tried didn’t work out in WvW. Condimancer is also pretty solid.

Pretty straight forward build, boring even. But it works really well. I switch the 10 points skill of curses a lot, using the 50% reduce fall.

I main a roamer Necro. Its not shortbow thief or jumptard warrior, but a consistant 33% ain’t bad at all. Especially when you got Death Shroud to juggle.
Most other class can spec for a consistant 33% sprint. Hell my engi can have it without wasting an utilities.
The out of combat mobility isn’t the issue, it’s in combat that we don’t have mobilities. We don’t have 3 leap like guardian, or mist form and RTL like Elem ect.
We have Spectral Walk, that can be useful but will mostly teleport you right back in the zerg, or Flesh worm, that is kinda good, but doesn’t fit most build.

About the ram in the supply camp, I bet BP would love if we would waste our supply for that.
The guy that has been doing it is (not sure of the name )Sahira(?) from TCMM. And this guy is crazy and do pretty everything he wants when he is bored. He will create rams trains everywhere. He was also very proud to learn that is supply rams worked so well.
Melodyca stop already with the bad attitude, you only post negativity. Get over it. We all know how this week would end, just wait a few hour and it will be over. Then you will have your chance to call out GoM all the next week for being the big bad zerg server.

You didn’t have to play a lvl 80 thief to counter them. DD Elem can prolly just breeze thru them. My friend laught each time a thief try to burst him down. DD Elem are the best counter to thief, which also make them the new FotM.

Those poor Ranger And that why once they debug Necro Minions, they will still be kittened. Since half the population of WvW are thief, you have to build for them.

Never been a fan of Battleship.
And people, stop bringing the “Learn how they play to counter them”. That’s not the point of this thread. @NealCaffrey wrote about it, but at least he also gave is opinion about the original thread.

Yeah but in UO, you also had one button to counter it : Detect hidden.
And a thief fighting a Ranger if it’s hard to stay perma stealth with C&D
And if they miss, they also have OH kittenkill to invis.
Perma stealth isn’t hard to achieve, even with C&D. We are in WvW, it’s a war, you aren’t in 1 vs 1 fights. You can always attack somoene that don’t expect it.
